Sky hatches hilarious plan to troll Premier League fans who illegally stream – but there’s a serious underlying ‘threat’

PREMIER League fans looking for an illegal free stream of Tottenham vs Arsenal will be greeted with an unwanted surprise this weekend.

Sky-backed BeStreamWise has devised a hilarious trick to deter users - but it also comes with a serious warning.

Those asking around for illegal free streams on X and Reddit will be messaged back by another user with what they think is a link to the match.

But instead they'll be greeted with live footage of a local water stream, along with commentary from a comedian.

The initiative has been arranged for the high profile north London derby, renowned for being one of the highest scoring games in the top division and famous for the long-standing rivalry between its clubs.

There is also a serious message to football fans too, with illegal streams usually hosted on dodgy websites.

The page will highlight the dangers of piracy to people, such as identity theft and fraud.

"Illegal streaming poses a serious threat and can expose consumers to identity theft, fraud, and malicious software," said Matt Hibbert, Group Director of Anti-Piracy at Sky.

"This campaign protects fans by redirecting them away from malicious streaming sites, highlighting the dangers of clicking unknown links and educating consumers on the risks involved in digital piracy.

"Through our collaboration with BeStreamWise, we want to ensure that football fans continue to enjoy the sport they love without compromising their personal security."

The move comes amid a spate of action targeting those facilitating illegal streams this year.

Two brothers were sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison for running an illegal streaming ring that allegedly gave thousands of households cheap access to premium services.

And just two weeks ago one of the world's biggest illegal movie streaming sites, Fmovies, was shut down.

BeStreamWise is a cross-body initiative supported by FACT, the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Crimestoppers, British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE), Sky, Premier League, and ITV.

Miles Rees, Deputy Director of Enforcement at The Intellectual Property Office’s said: "Piracy is anything but a victimless crime.

"It has clear links to other harmful activities and materials online, actively sustaining serious and organised crime networks while diverting funds away from the sporting occasions we all enjoy."

Kieron Sharp, CEO of FACT added: "We want to ensure that everyone can enjoy the excitement of the Spurs vs Arsenal match safely and legally."

TOTTENHAM midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur could face up to 12 games on the sidelines following his FA charge.

The 27-year-old was charged by the FA this week over recent comments about Spurs team-mate Heung-min Son.

An official statement read: "Rodrigo Bentancur has been charged with an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 for misconduct in relation to a media interview.

"It’s alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has breached FA Rule E3.1 as he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or brought the game into disrepute.

"It’s further alleged that this constitutes an 'aggravated breach' which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin."

Bentancur has until September 19 to respond to the charge.

And Football.London claims he could be banned for six to 12 games.

If he pleads guilty, the midfielder will likely receive a minimum ban of six games as per FA rules.

The worst punishment he could be given is a 12-match ban.

However, in similar cases this has been reduced.

Edinson Cavani and Bernardo Silva have both been charged with a similar rule breach in the past, but Cavani was handed a three-game ban and Silva's suspension was limited to just one match.

Back in June, Bentancur suggested that all South Korean people "look the same" during a Uruguayan TV interview.

A reporter asked: "Can you get me the shirt from the Korean?" to which Bentancur replied: "Sonny?"

The journalist then went on to say: "Or any other champion," before the midfielder responded: "Or any cousin of Sonny, they all look more or less the same."

He subsequently apologised to Spurs team-mate Son and issued a statement on social media, claiming it was a "very bad" joke.

Son was quick to accept his apology and insisted his team-mate just made a mistake.

Bentancur is now at risk of missing important games against Manchester United, West Ham, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea.

But he WILL be able to face Arsenal in the North London Derby this weekend.

While Bentancur has been charged by the FA, it is understood Enzo Fernandez will not face a similar charge as his actions took place while at a Fifa tournament and it will be left to Fifa to decide whether to punish him.

The Chelsea man streamed a video of himself and his Argentina team-mates singing a racist and homophobic chant about France's black players after the Copa Americal final.

Arteta will want instant impact from Sterling in North London Derby and he could be key difference over Arsenal's season

Description

RAHEEM STERLING'S deadline day move to Arsenal was, without doubt, one of the most intriguing deals of the entire window.

The 82-cap England international sealed a season-long loan transfer to the Gunners after being frozen out by new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Deals between the big six clubs are often few and far between given how much is at stake in terms of competitive advantage.

However, for Sterling, Arsenal represents the fourth big six team he has played for, having also turned out for Liverpool, Manchester City and the Blues.

It's understood there is no option or obligation to buy the 29-year-old, but Arsenal have secured an attacking player who adds both depth and quality to their attacking options in wide areas.

Indeed, one of the biggest concerns for Arsenal fans in recent seasons has been the sheer number of matches talisman Bukayo Saka has had to play with little real depth in their position.

But now Mikel Arteta may be given the chance to give his star man a rest from time to time, with Sterling able to play across the attack.

Arsenal play Tottenham in the North London derby this weekend, and below we take a look at what Sterling could offer ahead of his potential debut.

Stretching the width of the pitch

As Sterling has progressed through his career he has moved from being an out-and-out winger to an inverted wide player comfortable in the channels and central areas to support the striker.

Crucially, this means that Arsenal have essentially signed a wide attacker who will offer them both options depending on the specific attacking shape and structure that Arteta is looking to get.

BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS

Often we see Arsenal have their wingers hold the width of the attack staying on the outside and forcing the opposition fullbacks to defend wider than they would like.

Against Spurs this weekend we are likely to see Arteta again look to use his wide attackers as options to stay outside, at least in the initial phase of the attack and the build-up, and spread the Spurs defensive line out before attacking through those spaces.

With Sterling likely to start on the outside on the left of the pitch, his ability to attack the Spurs right-back either on the outside or the inside has the potential to generate real threat.

Arsenal will likely look to build from the back and into the middle third of the pitch before quickly looking to access their wide attackers isolated on the outside against the opposition fullbacks.

They are able to use their wide attackers in this manner because of the presence and work rate of Kai Havertz as the central striker.

But having players in wide areas who can be as effective as Sterling, on the left, and Saka, on the right, should have a genuine impact on the game.

Sterling’s ability to play wide as a more traditional winger type will be effective for Arteta in creating space centrally in the attacking phase.

Goal threat

Sterling has chosen to move to Arsenal to reignite a career that appeared to be stalling when he was at Chelsea by reuniting with Mikel Arteta.

Arteta previously worked with Sterling when he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, with the Spaniard being credited with turning him into a goalscoring attacker.

A large part of their 1v1 sessions was thought to centre around shot locations and asking Sterling to take his shots from more central areas as opposed to shooting from wider angles.

This period of Sterling’s career saw him become much more effective in front of goal and elevated his performances to the next level, and he will be hoping for the same impact the second time around.

If he is played regularly as part of the starting attack at Arsenal then there is nothing to stop him from contributing 10-15 goals this season as Arsenal chase the title.

For Arsenal last season they had inconsistent production from the likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli who typically played from the left side of the attack.

Adding Sterling in the final third and in the penalty area will, of course, bring added quality in the final third and a more consistent goal threat.

This coming weekend we are likely to see Pedro Porro start at right back for Spurs, and as much as he is an effective attacking threat, he can struggle at times against direct attacking wingers.

This is an area of the game where Arteta can create a real advantage with the use of Sterling from the left of the attack.

The fact Arsenal were able to add a reliable source of goals late in the window could be a huge bonus as the season goes on.

Intelligent positioning

As much as Sterling is effective when he is asked to stay wide and position himself on the outside of the opposition fullback, as we have already discussed above, he also has the versatility of movement and positioning to be able to drift and take advantage of the spaces that are open to him on the pitch.

This essentially means that when using Sterling from either the left or the right of the attack we will see Arteta be able to be more versatile in his attacking approach.

If he decides to play in this weekend's North London derby with a more traditional left-back who gets up and down the flank effectively then Sterling may be more free to come inside in order to find pockets of space in which he can receive the ball to hurt the Spurs defence.

There is every chance a coach of Arteta’s calibre will look to create situations and positions where on the right side they have a fullback who stays deep and narrow and a right-winger who stays wide while on the left side the fullback moves higher and the left-winger comes more inside.

This kind of positioning and movement in the attacking third can help to create attacking overloads and opportunities.

The fact that Arsenal have been able to add an international level forward with the experience and output throughout his career to date means that Arteta has far more options in terms of how he can set up his attack.

This will make them harder to predict coming into this weekend's derby against Spurs.

Conclusion

The signing of Sterling may well go down as one of the pivotal moments this season for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta as they look to close the gap on Manchester City and challenge for the league title.

Arsenal fans will be excited to see how Arteta plans to use Sterling starting this weekend against their biggest rivals.

TOTTENHAM midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been charged by the FA over his recent comments about Heung-min Son.

Back in June, the 27-year-old suggested that all South Korean people "look the same" during a Uruguayan TV interview.

Bentancur said: "Sony brother! I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke!

"You know that I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you brother."

Despite Bentancur's apology, the FA have made the decision to charge him.

A statement read: "Rodrigo Bentancur has been charged with an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 for misconduct in relation to a media interview.

The midfielder now has until Thursday, September 19 to respond to the charge.

Anti-discrimination campaigners Kick it Out received “a significant number of reports” over the incident when it happened and sent them to Spurs and the relevant authorities.

Tottenham went on to release a statement which read: "Following a comment from Rodrigo Bentancur in an interview video clip and the player’s subsequent public apology, the club has been providing assistance in ensuring a positive outcome on the matter.

"This will include further education for all players in line with our diversity, equality and inclusion objectives.

"We fully support that our captain Sonny feels that he can draw a line under the incident and that the team can focus on the new season ahead.

"We are extremely proud of our diverse, global fanbase and playing squads. Discrimination of any kind has no place at our Club, within our game or within wider society."

Son was quick to accept Bentancur's apology and said: "I’ve spoken with Lolo. He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised.

"Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive.

"We are brothers and nothing has changed at all.

"We’re past this, we’re united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one."

Bentancur could face a ban or receive a fine for the charge, but he WILL be able to face Arsenal this weekend.

The midfielder has made two Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this season.

He was absent from Ange Postecoglou's squad for last month's match against Everton due to a head injury sustained against Leicester in the opening game of the campaign.

Spurs could decide to line up with Bentancur in central midfield and Son on the left on Sunday against Arsenal.

New Everton bidder bizarrely slams Tottenham's stadium as a 'banquet hall' and says 'I'd stay at Goodison Park forever'

EVERTON'S potential new owner John Textor has slammed Tottenham's stadium and revealed he would prefer the Toffees stayed at Goodison Park.

The American businessman is confident he can complete a deal to buy the club before November 30.

Textor, 58, has been handed a period of exclusivity by current chief Farhad Moshiri that ends in eight weeks.

However, the digital entrepreneur must sell his 45 per cent stake in Crystal Palace before he can acquire Everton due to Premier League rules that stop owners running two clubs.

Textor claims there are two serious bidders wanting his share of the Eagles.

Opening up on his aims for Everton, Textor surprisingly told Sky Sports he is not a fan of the club ditching Goodison Park for their stunning new Bramley Moore Dock home.

With the club set to move to 52,000 capacity ground next summer, he said: "Not for me - I don't like Tottenham. I go into that stadium, and I think it's too nice.

"I remember the first couple of games I went there and the people I was with were in this banquet hall.

"I thought 'this is not football' and I really believe that. It's way too nice a stadium for football.

On Goodison Park, Textor added: "I was thinking 'what a weird stadium, what a weird layout - but what a beautiful stadium'.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

"It's like going to Fenway Park where you have a big pole in front of you. You can't see the field but it's what's beautiful about it.

"For me, I would still be interested in Everton if they were playing on a pitch next to Goodison Park. I would stay at Goodison forever."

He also revealed he has aspirations to lead Sean Dyche's side to the Premier League title - admitting he needs "serious capital" to do so.

Textor, who has stakes in France's Lyon, Brazil's Botafogo and Belgium's Molenbeek, claims Everton would be the pick of the bunch.

He said: "If you decide football is what you want in your life, and then somebody comes along and asks you if you want to become the owner of Everton, it's like someone asking you if you want to be President of the United States. Of course you do.

"Everton? I never thought about it as it was like looking at the White House and thinking I'm going to live there some day."

Textor is not the first to try to buy the Toffees after two other bids collapsed.

But in June, the Premier League refused to ratify their takeover as chiefs were concerned after backers cut ties with them and the company was hit with legal issues in the US and Europe.

Tottenham hit with their own injury blow after Arsenal lost Odegaard as star limps off on international duty

YVES BISSOUMA is a doubt for the North London derby after limping off on international duty.

The Tottenham midfielder, 28, was in action for Mali against Eswatini on Tuesday and netted the only goal of the game.

But he was forced off with a knock in the 65th minute after a heavy tackle and now Spurs are sweating on his fitness for Sunday’s powder-keg clash at home to Arsenal.

Bissouma was handed a one-match club ban last month for filming himself inhaling nitrous oxide, so missed the season-opener at Leicester.

Yet he has started both games since and netted a stunner in the 4-0 victory over Everton.

The blow comes just days after Arsenal's Martin Odegaard picked up an ankle injury while playing for Norway.

The Gunners' captain will miss the derby game and could be out for at least three weeks.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder James Maddison says it is the current Spurs squad’s “duty” to end their trophy famine.

Tottenham have not tasted silverware since winning the League Cup in 2008.

They compete in the Europa League this term, while they have a potential banana skin of an opening Carabao Cup tie away to Coventry on Wednesday.

CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS

Speaking to Australian channel Optus Sport, Maddison said: “What trophy would I like to win? I’d like to win all of them!

“It’s spoken about a lot in the media here and kind of a bit of a black mark against Tottenham’s name in terms of silverware.

“That’s on us, that’s our duty to try to change the history of recent times and try to get our hands on silverware.

“It’s not a thing that we should not talk about.

“The club needs to be winning trophies of this size and with the quality that we have, we should be battling it out for trophies.

“So we’ve got a good few competitions this year with the Europa League, the Carabao, the FA Cup and the Premier League.

“Hopefully we can have a deep run in one of them because winning trophies is for sure the best thing about football.

“When all is said and done at the end of your career, you look back on what you’ve won, I think.”

If Arsenal lose to Tottenham they have one game to save their season - and it's against Man City seven days later

PREMIER LEAGUE titles aren’t won in September.

But they can be lost. And that is what Arsenal fans - and perhaps even boss Mikel Arteta - may be starting to fear.

Because if the Gunners fail to beat local rivals Tottenham on Sunday, they will be under huge pressure to win against title rivals City at the Etihad a week later.

And defeat by Pep Guardiola’s side would put Arsenal up to eight points behind City with only five games gone.

Which, given the fact that Guardiola’s winning machine tends to hit absolute top gear only in the second half of the season, would feel like an almost impossible gap to close.

The injury to captain Martin Odegaard which is likely to keep him out of both big Premier League games, either side of the awkwardly-scheduled Champions League trip to Atalanta, underlines the inferiority of Arsenal’s squad.

In the summer transfer window, the Gunners added cover in key positions: Riccardo Calafiori in defence, Raheem Sterling on the wing and Mikel Merino in midfield.

It was very unfortunate that Merino suffered a significant injury in his first training session, especially with Declan Rice out of the North London derby because of suspension.

Jorginho is a decent deputy to play alongside Thomas Partey, at least.

But the problem is that Arteta has no-one who can replace Odegaard’s qualities at a high enough level in attacking midfield (although it might have been less challenging if Emile Smith Rowe had not been sold).

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

You can argue that there are very few players in the world who could.

But consider how City skipper coped, despite losing captain Kevin De Bruyne for half of last season.

De Bruyne featured in only 18 Premier League matches. It is true that City lost three games during the time he was sidelined with a hamstring problem and Arsenal streaked ahead.

But over the course of the season, it did not matter. Julian Alvarez, in particular, and City’s star-studded squad in general, were able to contribute enough that the Belgian’s lack of gametime did not stop them winning another title.

After a De Bruyne-less City side went down 1-0 at Aston Villa on December 6, they did not lose another game, winning 19 of their 23 remaining fixtures.

Don’t forget, either, that Erling Haaland missed a handful of games at the turn of the year. Fortunately for Guardiola, they were mostly against lower-level opposition and City won four out of five.

Which brings us to another issue - luck.

No-one is saying that Odegaard will be unavailable nearly as long as De Bruyne was. But the quirks of the fixture list - or a conspiracy, if you’re a particularly rabid Arsenal fan - mean his ankle problem has come at a really bad time.

You can still see a Gunners side without Rice and Odegaard finding a way to beat Spurs.

Riccardo Calafiori is also doubtful after the Italy defender was forced off during Friday's Nations League match against France with a calf problem.

But the absence of Odegaard from the Etihad, where Arsenal have not won a league game since January 2015, would be a massive blow to their chances.

Looking at it the opposite way, Arteta was very fortunate with injuries last season.

Rice and Odegaard were among six players to start at least 34 of the 38 Premier League games, with William Saliba playing every single minute. Another four players made at least 30 appearances as starters or subs.

That good fortune appears to have run out.

Meanwhile, the signs are Liverpool might well emerge as City’s biggest challengers.

The Reds have a pretty kind run of league fixtures between now and October 27, when they are due to face Arsenal at the Emirates.

The longer Odegaard is out, the bigger the potential gap by then.

Arteta needs his full squad to step up, on Sunday and in the coming weeks as the dual challenge of competing in the Premier League and Champions League resumes.

If they do not, after two seasons of fading in the final straight of the title race, Arsenal could be all but out of it while there are still plenty of leaves on the trees.

Tottenham looking to avoid unwanted Premier League record against bitter rivals Arsenal this weekend

TOTTENHAM will hope to avoid an unwanted Premier League record against bitter rivals Arsenals this weekend.

Spurs will host the Gunners this Sunday but will not want to face another home defeat to Mikel Arteta's side.

Arsenal are heading to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hoping for their third consecutive victory on their rivals’ turf, in a bid to keep up with league leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

Spurs’ recent 2-1 defeat to Newcastle has added extra pressure to this weekend’s match, as they currently sit tenth in the table after three games.

For Ange Postecoglou’s team to return to winning ways, they must overcome an own-goal challenge.

Tottenham have scored an own goal in each of their last three Premier League encounters with Arsenal.

So spurs will be eager to avoid breaking that unwanted record as no team has ever conceded four own goals in consecutive matches against the same opponent.

In their April match, Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg inadvertently headed a corner into his own net, giving Arsenal the lead in their 3-2 win.

This incident came after Cristian Romero scored an own goal in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates last September.

Prior to that, former Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris fumbled Bukayo Saka’s cross, turning it into his own net.

All three own goals have actually stemmed from Saka’s dynamic play on Arsenal’s right wing.

Postecoglou will therefore want to make sure his biggest rivals do not get an early advantage and avoid similar mistakes.

Arsenal are looking to bounce back in Sunday’s match after a 1-1 draw at home against Brighton last month.

Arteta is concerned about the fitness of captain Martin Odegaard, who limped off during Norway’s 2-1 victory over Austria on Monday night.

The 25-year-old has returned to London for tests after what seems to be an ankle sprain.

Jorginho opens up on Arsenal's mentality under Arteta as he's set start in Tottenham clash amid injury crisis

JORGINHO claims NOTHING can dent Arsenal’s belief Mikel Arteta is leading them to glory.

The Italian’s theory looks set for a massive test on Sunday as Arteta’s Gunners head to Tottenham for the first North London derby of the season.

And they look set to be without THREE key midfielders in Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino.

Rice and new-boy Merino are definitely out, while skipper Odegaard is a huge doubt after returning from Norway duty on crutches.

That opens the door for Jorginho to feature for the first time in his third campaign under manager Arteta.

And the former Chelsea midfielder, 32, insists everything is now geared up for success.

ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals and rumours from the Emirates

Despite the Gunners last lifting the Prem title in 2004, he said: “The mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win.

“The way you train every day, the information you have — even pictures at the training ground. Everything’s about winning.

“It’s really good as Mikel put up all these messages you see. It gets into your mind when you keep seeing them and you start to believe it.

“Then you get into the habit. You have the motivation and all we want to do is win.”

Jorginho is set to slot into the middle alongside Thomas Partey, with Kai Havertz likely to drop back and join them.

That could also mean an instant debut for deadline-day signing Raheem Sterling.

Jorginho played with Sterling at Chelsea in 2022-23 and he revealed the winger’s arrival before their 1-1 draw with Brighton came as a surprise.

Speaking to Gunners legend David Seaman on the Seaman Says podcast, via Betway, he said: “It was the day of the game, people were talking and I was like, ‘What?!’ But he’s going to be great for us.”

Merino, a £27.4million arrival from Real Sociedad, is out after fracturing his shoulder during his first training session.

Rice is banned following a controversial red against Brighton.

He got a second yellow for tapping the ball away as Joel Veltman took a free-kick.

Defender Veltman then clattered into Rice and Arteta felt he deserved a red, too.

Jorginho agreed, adding: “If it is a sending-off there, it’s there for both of them.”
