Brentford ready to slash Ivan Toney's asking price by more than £30m with just two clubs left in transfer race

BRENTFORD are ready to slash their asking price for Ivan Toney to less than £50million due to a lack of interest.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made it clear to Brentford that they have no plans to bid for in the England striker.

That leaves Tottenham and West Ham as his most likely suitors.

Brentford had hoped to create an auction for Toney after he returned from an eight-month gambling ban in January and initially invited bids in excess of £80m.

But there were no offers Toney during the winter transfer window and the club have been surprised at the lack interest this summer.

Arsenal are not prioritising signing a striker this summer, Chelsea think Toney is too old and United have signed £36.5m Holland striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Brentford’s position is complicated by the fact that they have been planning for Toney’s departure for over a year and have already signed his replacement.

Brentford broke their transfer record to pay Club Brugge £31m for Brazilian striker Igor Thiago in February, and manager Thomas Frank will struggle to accomodate both players in his first-team plans.

Toney is keen to leave Brentford this summer but has repeatedly spoken of his desire to join a “top club that wins trophies.”

The 28-year-old could opt to see out the final year of his contract at Brentford in the hope of joining a big club on a free transfer next summer, although such a move may create tension with his employers.

Brentford stood by Toney during his FA ban placing over 200 bets on football, but their relationship is not straightforward.

The former Newcastle and Peterborough striker initially denied placing any bets before changing his story and pleading guilty at an FA hearing, a U-turn which caused problems for the club.

Any Tottenham bid for Toney would depend on them selling Brazilian international Richarlison.

But they are also interested in Lille striker Jonathan David, who is available for £25m.

MANCHESTER UNITED want at least £40million before they even consider selling Scott McTominay.

SunSport can reveal Tottenham are now tracking the Scottish international.

Their London rivals Fulham have already had a bid turned down for the player.

But further offers are expected for McTominay, 27, who may need to be sold by United to help balance the books — and support a planned summer spending spree.

United have already wrapped up a £36.5m move for Dutch striker Joshua Zirkee from Bologna.

While the Red Devils are also close to a £52m deal for Lille’s French defender Leny Yoro.

And they now want £40m for McTominay after demanding just £30m from suitors last year.

Sources close to the Red Devils say that Erik Ten Hag is keen to keep the Scot.

But he is not regarded as a first-team starter, which may lead to him moving on to make the next step in his career.

There’s interest from overseas, with Turkish giants Galatasaray confirming they are keen on landing McTominay.

They’d targeted the England player as a priority signing but he’s now looking more likely to remain at Chelsea and see out his deal.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is believed to be an admirer of McTominay and reckons he could add a new dimension to his team alongside James Maddison.

McTominay came close to leaving United last summer, with West Ham and former boss David Moyes tabling a bid.

But talks broke down and he remained in Manchester, where he went on to have an excellent season.

Many fans would be disappointed to see him leave, but club insiders say McTominay is “open-minded” to the idea of a switch to help secure regular first-team football.

GALATASARAY'S vice-president has revealed they are interested in signing Manchester United star Scott McTominay and Tottenham man Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Red Devils midfielder McTominay, 27, has more than 250 appearances for Man Utd since breaking through from the academy in 2017.

But he was linked with a switch to West Ham last summer before the deal collapsed.

And now he has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford - having started just 18 Premier League games last season.

Danish midfielder Hojbjerg, 28, has spent four years in North London but become a bit-part player under Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

Galatasaray's rivals Fenerbahce have already been linked with the Denmark international following the appointment of Hojbjerg's ex-manager Jose Mourinho.

And club vice-president Ibrahim Hatipoglu has confirmed they are looking at both McTominay and Hojbjerg.

Speaking to CNN Turk, he said: "We are interested in a player from the Premier League and Manchester United.

"There is nothing more natural than the high cost of this. There are discussions regarding his transfer fee.

"For us, the total cost, including transfer fees and player receivables [salary], is important at the decision point.

"Once the negotiations with both the club and the player are completed, the cost becomes apparent."

He then went on to tell Haber Sari Kirmizi: "McTominay’s transfer is being discussed.

"Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a good player, he has many suitors, he wants to see all options."

Galatasaray won the Turkish league title with 102 points last season, beating 99-point Fenerbahce to claim a second successive triumph.

ENGLAND'S rocky road to the final saw results equivalent to Tottenham failing to beat Exeter and Portsmouth in 90 minutes.

The performances of Gareth Southgate's side were far from convincing throughout the Euros - with it coming to a devastating end at the last hurdle against Spain.

England currently sit fifth in the Fifa world rankings and when comparing the list to the football pyramid, that would make the Three Lions the equivalent of Spurs, who finished in the Premier League.

England kicked-off their tournament by holding on for a nervy 1-0 win over Serbia.

They are 32nd in world rankings and in the English football pyramid, that side is Preston.

Next up was a bore 1-1 draw with Denmark and again converting the international positions to domestic, the Danes are the equivalent to Leicester.

Another dull draw followed against Slovenia and they are ranked 57th by Fifa.

Exeter, who finished 13th in League One last season, are their EFL equivalents.

Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane were the saviours as the Three Lions left it late to beat Slovakia 2-1 in extra-time.

The Slovakians are 43rd in the world, according to Fifa, which puts them in the position of third tier champions Portsmouth.

England beat Switzerland on penalties in the quarter-final as the heroes converted all five spot-kicks.

The Swiss are ranked 19th in the world, which would see them in the Premier League relegation zone, taking Burnley's place.

Ollie Watkins was the hero as England booked their spot in the final by beating Holland 2-1.

Newcastle and the Dutch both find themselves in seventh.

And finally, it was a 2-1 defeat to Euros winners Spain in what could be Southgate's last game in charge.

La Roja are set to rise up the rankings after clinching glory - but coming into the tournament they were in eighth place.

Liverpool and Tottenham blow as Darwin Nunez and Rodrigo Bentancur face GLOBAL BAN for part in Uruguay brawl with fans

THIS is the shocking moment Darwin Nunez was involved in a violent brawl with fans after jumping into the stands to protect his family.

Liverpool’s £64million Uruguay forward could now face a lengthy ban after footage captured him swapping punches with Colombian supporters.

Security staff tried to hold Nunez back when he climbed a 15-foot wall to confront yobs who were attacking players’ loved ones.

The 25-year-old had first threatened to hurl a CHAIR at the hooligans.

Videos also showed Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur hurling a bottle into the crowd — which appeared to strike a Uruguayan staff member who had climbed into the stand.

Fifa are considering a global ban for any player involved which would mean Nunez and Bentancur miss the start of the Premier League season.

Nunez was later pictured consoling one of his children on the pitch after being carried from the mayhem after Uruguay’s 1-0 Copa America semi-final defeat by Colombia in North Carolina.

Team-mates Jose Gimenez and Ronald Araujo were also involved in the punch-up.

Gimenez claimed their families were attacked by an “avalanche” of Colombian fans, stressing: “We had to step in to protect them.

“This is an embarrassment, there wasn’t one police officer to control them.

“We had to go and defend our own just because people can’t control their drinking.”

Police earlier had to restore order in the Bank of America Stadium after fans behind Uruguay’s bench hurled drinks.

Gimenez added: “This was a disaster. Our families were in the stands with newborn babies.”

South America’s governing body Conmebol said: “We strongly condemn any act of violence.”

Tottenham ace Emerson Royal admits he is 'upset' and says he 'wants to go somewhere he can play' amid transfer interest

Description

FORGOTTEN man Emerson Royal has spoken out amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Tottenham.

The Brazil star has been linked with an exit this summer after falling out of favour with Ange Postecoglou.

The 25-year-old defender made just 22 appearances - mainly from the bench - this term.

And now the Brazilian is lined up to leave North London this summer amid interest from AC Milan and Al-Nassr.

Speaking on his future at Tottenham, he told EPTV: "I've always made it clear. Every player likes to play. I'm very competitive.

"It bothers me a lot to be on the bench. I was upset and told the coach about it.

"But I've always been very professional. I've always been one of those who put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn't work for me, so I don't know what my future will be.

"I'm not a player who sits on the bench. I want to play. If it's not here, I understand. But I want to go somewhere where I can play."

Last week, Milan made an offer for Royal but it was immediately rejected by Tottenham, who are looking for a fee of around £16m.

According to reporter Ben Jacobs the full-back joining Milan "is a possibility" but Al-Nassr have also joined the race.

The Saudi Arabian club’s interest should enable Spurs to secure the price they are looking for, Jacobs reported.

Royal's lack of game time this season meant he was left out of Brazil's Copa America squad - which he hopes to return to next term.

He added: "We are talking. I want to play for the Brazilian national team, to play in a World Cup.

"In recent years I have always been called up, with Tite, with Diniz. But I understand that if you don't play for the club it is unlikely that you will play for the national team.

"So I have to look for new places or, if I stay at Tottenham, get a good offer to play. We will see what is best for me and for everyone else."

Tottenham signed Royal on a five-year deal for £25.8 million from Barcelona on the final day of the 2021 summer transfer window.

But a number of injuries have plagued his time at Spurs and seen him replaced at right back by Pedro Porro.

Ndombele joined from Lyon in 2019 with huge expectations after shattering Tottenham's transfer record.

But he would go on to play just 91 times for the club, scoring 10 goals and is now set to leave one year before the end of his contract.

Richarlison almost broke the £50m mark when he arrived from Everton in 2022 as Harry Kane's back-up.

And while his tally of 12 goals this season was a significant increase on the three from his opening Spurs campaign, he is being linked with a departure this summer.

Johnson was signed by Ange Postecoglou last summer and has impressed in patches during his first season in North London.

He scored five goals and 10 assists in 38 games and will look to build on that in the 2024/25 campaign.

Romero initially joined on loan from Atalanta in 2021, before his impressive displays saw him secure a permanent deal the following year.

He is two games shy of 100 for Spurs and, while he can be reckless with his tackling at times, is beginning to form a promising partnership with Micky van de Ven.

Maddison was handed Kane's No10 shirt after arriving at Spurs and hit the ground running with three goals and five assists in his opening 11 matches.

But after getting injured against Chelsea in October, he failed to return with the same sharpness - managing just five goal contributions in 15 league matches as he missed out on England's final 26-man squad for the Euros.

Sanchez joined Spurs from Ajax in 2017 and played more than 200 games across a six-year spell.

But he was always considered a somewhat erratic defender who did not play more than 20 games in a Premier League season from 2020 onwards.

Porro was another signing who originally arrived on loan in January 2023, before he signed permanently last summer.

He has 54 appearances for Spurs under his belt, scoring seven goals and impressing under Postecoglou this season.

Rapid Dutch centre-back Van de Ven was named Spurs Player of the Season in his first campaign at the club.

His pace, athleticism, and technical ability on the ball have made him arguably Postecoglou's best signing to date.

Sissoko came to North London for a substantial fee after being relegated with Newcastle and went on to enjoy five years at Tottenham, playing more than 200 games.

Unfortunately for the French midfielder, he is best-known for giving away a controversial penalty for handball in the first minute of Spurs' 2-0 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2019.

Lo Celso joined on loan from Real Betis in 2019 - a deal that was made permanent the following season.

He has 10 goals and eight assists in 108 games, with some Spurs fans still unsure about the Argentine.

SunSport understand United, the Blues and Spurs have been embroiled in a major bidding war for the versatile winger's signature during the summer transfer window.

However, the Premier League trio are facing stiff competition from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain for the France Under-21 international.

Doue is a "top priority" for both Chelsea and Tottenham, who have already held talks with the player's camp as well as Rennes.

Negotiations are still "ongoing" between the Prem giants and the teenage sensation as well as his club.

Both London rivals are so keen on the Frenchman that they want a deal to be sealed by next week.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is especially big on the youngster, who has been named as part of France's squad for this summer's Olympics, and wants him to be his first signing of the window.

Meanwhile, United are also "hot" on Doue and continue to monitor his situation.

Doue has been with Rennes since 2011 when he joined the academy at the tender age of six years old.
