Mathys Tel forced to apologise to Tottenham fans after wearing ex-Arsenal star’s name on shirt... - The Sun
Description

MATHYS TEL has apologised to Tottenham fans after posting a photo of himself wearing a Willian shirt on social media.

The 19-year-old swapped shirts with the Brazilian following Spurs' 2-0 defeat to Fulham earlier this month.

And he donned the white top in a photo that was posted to his social media this week.

However, some Tottenham fans were furious to see that he was wearing the shirt of a player who once rejected them.

One person commented: "Oh, Mathys…"

Another said: "How do footballers not realise that this goes down like a lead balloon..."

While a third commented: "Willian jersey after he's played for both our biggest rivals is kinda nuts."

Willian came close to joining Tottenham in 2013 but ultimately rejected the Lilywhites.

After completing a medical in North London, the 36-year-old had a last-minute change of heart and instead signed for Chelsea.

He went on to win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup at Stamford Bridge.

The winger also spent a year with Arsenal, Tottenham's biggest rivals.

After realising his error, Tel promptly apologised to Spurs fans.

He said: "Ahaha sorry my bad guys I didn't know."

Some Tottenham supporters thought the loanee was unfairly treated over the incident.

One person said: "He joined two months ago. He's 19. He's French. Why would he know the history… Shameful the stick he got."

While another added: "To be honest I wouldn’t expect him to know the backstory to that situation. He’s a 19 year old who’s been at the club for 2 months so why would he know the full story about a transfer over a decade ago?"

Tel joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich in January after initially turning down a move to North London.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham future ‘in serious doubt’ as club ‘make decision on top target to replace him’... - The Sun

FULHAM are in talks with boss Marco Silva over a new contract.

The Portuguese, 47, has been a sensation in West London since taking over in 2021, taking the club into the FA Cup quarter-finals and chasing a Champions League dream this term.

And with his current deals only having a year to go in the summer, the Cottagers are keen to tie him down to fresh terms.

Their need has also been greatened by Silva being among the list of possible candidates to take over at Tottenham should the North Londoners part ways with Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou’s future at Spurs will likely hinge on the club’s Europa League campaign.

If the Aussie can be successful by going deep in the competition - or better yet, winning it - he is expected to be safe.

But go out in the quarter-finals to Eintracht Frankfurt after the international break and it could be curtains, given how poorly the club’s Premier League campaign is going.

Spurs lost their 15th league game of the season last weekend, ironically at the hands of Silva’s Fulham.

The ex-Watford boss, who has an £8.6million release clause in his current deal, is believed to be admired among the Tottenham hierarchy, along with Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

Yet Fulham do not want to lose him, given the stellar job he has done, and will hope to persuade him to commit his long-term future to them.

Silva took over a recently-relegated Fulham in 2021 with his reputation having taken a hit following his axing by Everton two years prior.

But he proved his quality by instantly winning the Championship, before guiding the Cottagers to tenth and 13th in the following two Premier League seasons.

Sunday’s win against Spurs in Silva’s 200th Prem match as a manager moved Fulham into eighth, just four points off the top four.

The former Hull chief was in his native Portugal on Monday to be presented with a coach of the year award at the Gala D’O Gaiense by compatriot Carlos Queiroz.

Silva spoke at the do of how England is the place to manage right now - two years on from snubbing a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli.

He said: “After two or three years of my coaching career, I was already thinking about training abroad.

“But you have to think about the best championship in the world, which was a goal.

“I didn’t expect to have so many games in the Premier League but I am very pleased to have reached this number.”

Silva is one of four Portuguese bosses managing in England’s top flight, along with Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim, Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest and Vitor Pereira at Wolves.

The double Prem centurion added: “All of us there know the Premier League has a different competitiveness and requires very great preparation.”

Speaking of his own achievements so far, after receiving his gong, Silva said: “The most special year is yet to come.”

Harry Kane tipped for stunning Liverpool transfer by Premier League legend just two years after Tottenham exit

Harry Kane tipped for stunning Liverpool transfer by Premier League legend just two years after Tottenham... - The Sun
Description

HARRY KANE has been tipped to join Liverpool by Alan Shearer.

The striker left the Premier League in the summer of 2023 in search of silverware.

He has so far been unable to find it at Bayern Munich, although the German giants are on course to win the Bundesliga and are still in the Champions League.

Kane is still finding the net regularly, netting in both of England's latest World Cup qualifiers, and Shearer believes Liverpool could make a move for the Three Lions captain.

The Reds are in danger of losing key goalscorer Mo Salah when his contract expires in the summer and they could want a big name through the door amid speculation Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed a move to Real Madrid.

Shearer thinks Kane would be a good fit at Anfield and could be lured by the size of the club and the opportunity to break the Prem goal record, which Shearer holds with 260.

The pundit told Betfair: "Liverpool will be looking for a centre-forward in the summer, I don't doubt that and Harry Kane would be a great option for them because of the size of the club and he'll score goals.

"Whether Harry decides to stay in Germany or he decides to come back to the Premier League, he'll have options.

"I've always said that if he comes back to the Premier League then he'll have a really, really good chance of breaking my record. I'm a huge admirer of him."

Kane was signed for £104million by Bayern but he reportedly has a clause in his contract which means he could be available on the cheap.

The 31-year-old could have triggered the clause in the winter transfer window.

That would have reportedly allowed him to leave Bayern for around £67m in the summer.

That deadline has now passed but the release clause, which is not common in the Bundesliga, will be valid again next winter.

If Kane triggers it next January, he could move to another club for just £54m in under 18 months' time in the summer of 2026.

Premier League cult hero, 33, completes ‘most random transfer of all time’ to Dunfermline... - The Sun
Description

FORMER Tottenham star Victor Wanyama has completed a shock transfer - to a second tier Scottish team.

The Kenyan midfielder, 33, had been unemployed for the last two months following the expiration of his contract with MLS side Montreal Impact.

But the cult Premier League hero, who played for Spurs and Southampton in the top flight, is no longer a job seeker after inking a surprise deal with Scottish Championship side Dunfermline.

A club statement read: "DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance."

Dunfermline then referred to Wanyama's hilarious tweet after he swapped his kit with an Impact fan for a pack of pasta in July 2021 shortly after announcing his arrival.

They tweeted: "I had spaghetti and it was very nice I enjoyed it.:

Wanyama's move to East End Park has stunned footie fans, one of whom said: "Nahhh that's crazy."

Another said: "What is football?"

And another said: "This is surely the most random transfer of all time."

One remarked: "Now we know why [Mohamed] Salah and VVD (Virgil van Dijk) are running down their contracts."

Another chimed in: "This is very random, but he should be a very good signing for Dunfermline Athletic indeed."

Wanyama is no stranger to Scottish football having spent two seasons with Premiership champions Celtic.

And he'll be playing under a familiar face in Neil Lennon, who has taken charge of the Pars until the end of the season.

The Northern Irishman said: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s great to be back in football. I know how competitive and attritional the Scottish Championship can be.

"That was seven or eight years ago with different players. Obviously, I enjoyed it a lot, really enjoyed it.

"I had a good team off the back of them winning the cup. This is a totally different scenario.

"We’re picking a team up that’s just a little bit low in confidence at the minute.

"Like I said, there’s potential in a lot of the players here. Some of the senior players as well have been really good.

“You learn from all the experiences that go along.

"I really enjoyed my time with the media as well, believe it or not.

"Coaching is what I always want to do. I don’t know how long this is going to be.

"We’ll take a view on it as we go along but I’m very excited about the prospect of trying and endeavouring to take them firmly forward.”

Bizarre moment Robbie Keane gives yellow card to his own team-mate for hilarious reason in Tottenham... - The Sun
Description

ROBBIE KEANE dished out a yellow card to his own teammate for a hilarious reason in a Tottenham legends match today.

Spurs heroes turned out in their droves for Sunday’s 6-2 win against AC Milan in north London.

Aces including Dimitar Berbatov, Ledley King and Jermain Defoe turned out for Tottenham.

While Milan boasted big names like Dida, Cafu and Andrea Pirlo.

But it was the hosts who emerged victorious in a 6-2 thrashing.

Keane, 44, delighted fans as he bagged a first half hat-trick for Spurs.

He remains a popular figure after scoring 107 goals in 254 outings while also winning the League Cup in 2008.

However, the Irishman enjoyed an extra cheeky moment today as he dished out a booking to teammate Michael Dawson.

With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, the centre-back attempted to launch a long through-ball for Defoe to run on to.

But Dawson’s pass was shockingly wide of the target.

It sailed past Milan’s defensive line, as well as intended target Defoe.

And Keane had a laugh at Dawson’s expense by grabbing the referee’s yellow card before showing his pal a joke booking.

It marked a wonderful day out for Spurs fans and their former players.

Keane struck first in the match with a close-range finish.

Defoe doubled Tottenham’s lead moments later with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

And Keane then grabbed his second goal in the 18th minute for 3-0.

Midfielder Sandro made it four with a howitzer before Keane made it 5-0 before the break.

Milan managed to pull two back in the second half through Christian Zazzardo and a beautiful Pirlo free-kick.

But Spurs made it 6-2 thanks to a late hit from Michael Brown.

Description

TOTTENHAM fans are wishing they could turn back time after watching their legends side tear apart AC Milan Glorie in North London.

A collection of former Spurs stars took on a team of Milan icons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Sunday in a treat for fans during the international break.

Tottenham's side, which featured the likes of Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe, rolled back the years with some stunning football in the early stages.

In fact, the Premier league aces were 3-0 up within 20 minutes against a Milan side featuring Dida, Andrea Pirlo and Cafu.

And Spurs fans couldn't help but wish their iconic heroes could lace up after the international break too, joking that they might do a better job than their current crop.

On social media, one wrote: "Keep these lads on after the international break".

While another added: "Can the legends just play every week till end of the season".

A third teased: "The legend are playing better than our first team".

And a fourth posted: "seen enough, bring Defoe back to the first team", after seeing Defoe net in the first half.

Spurs have had a torrid campaign under Ange Postecoglou this season and are currently 14th in the Premier League.

The north Londoners have won just 10 of their 29 league games this season and were dumped from both domestic cups.

While they only narrowly made it into the Europa League quarter-finals after turning around a first leg deficit against AZ Alkmaar.

Their woeful campaign has been caveated by a slew of injuries across the team, but performances haven't changed much since the return of key players.

Milan put up a little more of a fight in the second half, scoring twice to put a little more pressure on the home side - including a stunning free-kick by Pirlo.

But another Spurs goal meant the match ended 6-2 and the old boys showed that they still have what it takes to put on a show for the fans.

Tottenham face the tough task of a trip to take on London rivals Chelsea in their first game back after the break.

While they also have their quarter-final face-off with Eintracht Frankfurt on the horizon.

All 44 players to win a trophy since leaving Tottenham as Trippier picks up second… but still none for H... - The Sun
Description

IT has been 17 years since Tottenham got their hands on silverware.

And while serial winners Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have been unable to end the drought, a horrible trend has emerged of players leaving Spurs and winning trophies elsewhere.

Kieran Trippier picked up his second since moving on by helping Newcastle to Carabao Cup glory on Sunday.

The "curse" remains on Harry Kane, for now, but a whopping 44 others have shook off the "Spursy" jibe.

To make this list, a player must have gone trophyless at Spurs and lifted a cup since the last time the club did in 2008.

Winning something while on loan doesn't count (sorry, Bryan Gil) and nor do international trophies (sorry, Giovani Lo Celso).

Only league titles, major domestic cups and continental competitions count - as it is only fair to ignore Spurs' pre-season Audi Cup win in 2019.

Luka Modric

Lifted four LaLiga titles and six Champions Leagues at Real Madrid.

Kyle Walker

Treble winner at Manchester City with six Prem crowns to his name.
