Karen Carney makes awkward remark as Ian Wright mocks Spurs in front of Ange Postecoglou - The Mirror
Description

There was a hairy moment during ITV's Euro 2024 coverage, with Ange Postecoglou dealing with criticism of his Tottenham team within minutes of making his punditry debut with the broadcaster.

After taking some time off at the end of the season, Postecoglou joined Karen Carney, Ian Wright and presenter Laura Woods in the studio. The quartet were taking in the Group E match between Belgium and Romania, with Spurs defender Radu Dragusin starting for the latter.

Before the game even kicked off, though, Postecoglou found himself and his team brought up in a less than favourable context. The discussion wasn't even about the players involved on the night, or even a member of the Australian's squad.

Instead, Spurs' performance against Manchester City was brought up when the panel discussed John Stones' England role. The City man impressively stepped into midfield on more than one occasion, including against the London side, and a repeat has been suggested at international level.

“I know what Karen was saying about John Stones and how brilliant he is when he’s going through the pitch from centre half - I think it was against Tottenham, I think I saw him,” Wright said. The comment brought a sheepish "thanks mate" from Postecoglou, while Carney pointed out the awkwardness of the situation, to laughter from all concerned.

"The thing with it is, yes, that is fine at Man City because he has got that structure," Wright continued. "And he knows exactly what he’s doing and people know when he’s coming. It’s the same as Phil Foden, Phil Foden has got structure - people talk about him playing with freedom but he’s got a structure, he knows exactly what he’s doing and at the moment, us, from an attacking point of view, we don’t seem to have a structure for what we’re doing.”

Postecoglou's presence was welcomed by those watching on TV. "Nobody should be surprised at Ange’s calmness and common sense in front of the ITV cameras. He has been a regular TV pundit Down Under," wrote one.

"Ange Postecoglou comes across so well. He’s got that charisma I really like and a natural pundit," said another. "Ange’s knowledge of the game is miles higher than any other pundit on our TV screens," was the verdict from a third.

On the pitch, Belgium made a fast start as they became the last of the 24 teams at the Euros to find the net. Youri Tielemans was one of several players brought into the starting line-up by Domenico Tedesco after a defeat to Slovakia, and the Aston Villa midfielder scored after barely 70 seconds.

The goal was the third-fastest in Euros history, with all three scored in group stage games. Dmitri Kirichenko netted after 67 seconds for Russia against Greece in 2004, with that record standing until Nedim Bajrami put Albania ahead against Italy in this year's edition.

Pink in London review: Summer Carnival is mesmerising with the most jaw-dropping finale you'll see - The Mirror
Description

Pink drops into Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first London date of her Summer Carnival Tour, quite literally, on Saturday night.

Bungee jumping upside down on wires emerging from a pair of giant lips on the stage roof, the fearless US singer kicks off the show with an infectious mix of Get The Party Started mashed up with Eurythmics floorfiller Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).

The dazzling entrance sets the tone for the rest of the circus-themed show which is to expect the unexpected.

While the special effects are mesmerising and jaw-dropping throughout, Pink powers through a trusted stream of singalong hits from Just Like A Pill, Try to Raise Your Glass. Newer tracks including Fred again... produced Trustfall are just as well received from her adoring crowd.

Revelling in her masterclass of a stadium show, Pink loves her audience right back as she takes time to acknowledge birthday posters, “I love my 40's, 40's are rad!”, accept gifts and to sign autographs that will later be turned into tattoos.

“I got my first tattoo when I was 12,” admits the star, adding that she had her lip pierced then too. “What were my parents thinking?” she asks.

Son Heung-min admits "uncomfortable" Tottenham situation as contract enters final year - The Mirror
Description

Son Heung-min has dismissed rumours surrounding a potential exit from Tottenham Hotspur, adding that the speculation has made him "uncomfortable".

Son, 31, is entering the final year of his four-year contract with Spurs, who have an option to extend his deal by a year. Yet, while the South Korea star led the team in goals scored with 17 in 35 matches, speculation has surrounded the Spurs skipper's future after rumours of a shock reunion with Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce emerged.

The Turkish giants, now armed with Mourinho at the helm, are targeting a big summer spending spree and reports claimed that the former Tottenham boss was considering linking back up with Son. Spurs are set to undergo a significant rebuild this summer after Ange Postecoglou's first season as head coach.

However, the forward seemed to shoot down suggestions that he could be one to potentially exit the club this summer. “I have not had any exchanges with the club,” Son said after helping South Korea to a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over China in Seoul.

“I don't have anything to say at this point. I feel a little uncomfortable with the situation. I am going to keep doing my best for Tottenham. I still have terms left on my contract. Money is not important to me. The most important thing is to play in a league that I enjoy playing in. I have so much more I want to accomplish in the Premier League.”

While Tottenham missed out on Champions League football next season by just two points after a rocky ending to the most recent campaign, Son moved up to fifth in the list of Spurs' all-time scorers after he lifted his tally to 162 goals in 408 appearances for the club.

Having joined the club in 2015, Son relished his joint-second highest goal tally last season with 17 league goals, behind only his 2021-22 season during which the forward notched a staggering 23 league goals. Even so, there were some frustrating moments for the forward as he navigated a season blighted by injuries to key players in the squad.
