Leeds United vs Tottenham Hotspur: Premier League preview, team news, stats & head-to-head - BBC
Description

Leeds United have lost nine of their last 11 Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur (W1 D1), including each of their last four in a row – their longest ever league losing run to Spurs.

Tottenham have won both of their last two league visits to Elland Road and could beat Leeds United away from home three times running in the league for the very first time.

Leeds have shipped four goals in their last two home Premier League games against Spurs, losing 4-0 in Marcelo Bielsa’s last game in charge and 4-1 in their final game of 2022-23 before being relegated. No side has ever scored four goals in three away league matches at Elland Road in a row.

Spurs have picked up seven points in their three away Premier League games in 2025-26 (W2 D1), as many as in their previous 11 games on the road combined (W2 D1 L8).

Leeds haven’t won any of their last 11 Premier League matches that have kicked off before 3pm (D2 L9), since a 3-0 win over Chelsea in August 2022 (2pm KO).

Tottenham Hotspur have drawn their last two Premier League matches, as many as they’d drawn in their previous 23 (W7 D2 L14). Spurs last drew three in a row back in October/November 2016, a run of four.

Leeds have now gone a full year without losing a home league game, with their 23 game run at Elland Road beginning on 28 September 2024 against Coventry. They’ve drawn their last two however, last drawing three in a row in September 2023, while in the Premier League they last did so in a run of five between March and August 1997 under George Graham.

Only three teams have netted more set piece goals than Leeds in the Premier League this season (4) but the Whites have shipped six set piece goals themselves – only West Ham (8) have conceded more.

Tottenham’s Richarlison could make his 250th Premier League appearance in this match to become the fifth Brazilian to reach that milestone, along with Willian, Ederson, Fernandinho and Roberto Firmino. He’ll be the 300th player to play 250 games, with Michail Antonio the last player to net on his 250th game back in April 2024.

Since making his first Premier League start for Leeds on 30 August, no player has made more tackles in the Premier League than Sean Longstaff (19, level with Spurs midfielder João Palhinha), and only three players have created more chances than he has (8).

Bodo/Glimt 2-2 Tottenham: What Thomas Frank said after draw - BBC
Description

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, speaking to TNT Sports: "I felt first that the positives were the mentality and character.

"We stayed in the game and kept fighting, and that gave us a very good point away from home. When you are 2-0 down in the Champions League against a very good Bodo team here, I am happy to take that.

"They were better than us in the first half, it was clear to see. They are exceptionally good at what they do and are very well coached. But I think after 2-0 we got into the game and were the best team in the latter part of the game. "

On sloppiness: "I don't want to complain about the surface, it is what is it. We could have kept the ball better, no doubt about that. Sometimes it is what happens on the day. We just need to keep trying to do the right thing."

On the late goal: It's extremely important that we got back from 2-0 down at Brighton and against Wolves, and again today. It's extremely important to show that mentality."

On Richarlison being isolated: "First half we could have kept the ball better, but that was not only on Richarlison. Perhaps it was a bit to do with the structure of the team. I'm in no doubt that we will improve."

"To take four points from two games is good. Also, today when we get a point, it's a fine start. We need to work from here."

Analysis: Spurs' blushes spared - BBC
Description

There will have been relief on the final whistle among Tottenham's players at having avoided being on the end of a surprise defeat, but there was nevertheless little to celebrate from this result and, for the most part, the performance.

With Bodo located 200km north of the Arctic Circle and their home games played on an artificial pitch, conditions can be tough for opposition teams.

But Tottenham played here in May and secured a routine 2-0 win on their way to winning the Europa League, and it is difficult to point to the conditions as a reason for what was a lacklustre display for most of the match.

Spurs struggled to create chances or put together decent moves in the final third and were too reliant on their defence to hold out an enthusiastic and confident Bodo/Glimt side in the first half.

Kasper Hogh's penalty miss - when he fired over the bar after a foul by Rodrigo Bentancur - failed to rouse Spurs, and they only started playing once they found themselves 2-0 down.

Manager Thomas Frank may be pleased by the battle his side showed at that stage, although there was still an element of fortune about the equaliser when Archie Gray's cross was turned in by Jostein Gundersen.

It is, however, four points from two games in the Champions League for Tottenham - but there is plenty of room for improvement.

'Wirtz damages the balance of Liverpool'

Galatasaray v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

Wayne Rooney

Former Man Utd striker on The Wayne Rooney Show

I don't see where Wirtz gets into the Liverpool team. I think he actually damages the balance of Liverpool and how they play. He's a top player and I'm sure he will get better - but he's had a slow start and there's no denying that.

I've seen players come into this league and it takes time. It's not the price tag. It's not the player or his ability. I don't see where he fits into what Liverpool do in that system.

Is he a third midfield player? For me, no, he's more of an attacking player. So if I have to choose between him and Szoboszlai, then I choose Szoboszlai.

'The one player everyone talks about in Germany is Harry Kane'

Pafos v Bayern Munich (20:00 BST)

Raphael Honigstein

German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live Euro Leagues podcast

Harry Kane has gone to another level over the last two to three weeks or so, and has captured the imagination of the German public, which is perhaps unusual for a non-German player.

People are just in awe of what he does. You can see his teammates being in awe of what he does and right now the one player that everyone talks about in Germany is Harry Kane.

Not because he does anything different and not because he does anything unexpected, but he does it in a way that people didn't quite appreciate how much more he is than just a centre forward.

GOAL - Kairat 0-3 Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe (hat-trick)

Kylian Mbappe missed a glorious chance to get a hat-trick a few minutes ago but now he ensures he is going home with the match ball on the long journey back to the Spanish capital.

A powerful low blaster into the bottom corner from 18 yards out is how he seals the treble and the three points for Real.

Mbappe now has five goals in two Champions League games and unsurprisingly is the top scorer in the competition so far this season.

Jose's kindness

Chelsea v Benfica (20:00 BST)

Simon Stone

BBC Sport Chief Football News Reporter at Stamford Bridge

Jose Mourinho has just made one little lad's night by signing his shirt.

He was chatting with his former player Joe Cole, who was with Owen Hargreaves as they are both here working for TNT Sports.

He also spent time talking to former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who is also on TV duty.

I wonder if they were talking about what has happened under Ruben Amorim this season?

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has 'minor surgery' on ankle injury

Spurs striker Solanke has 'minor surgery' on ankle - BBC
Description

Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke has had "minor surgery" to resolve an ankle injury.

Solanke, who last played for Spurs on 23 August against Manchester City, was absent from training again on Monday before the Champions League fixture at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.

"Dom has got that ankle issue that's been bothering him for a little while, so now we've decided to make a minor surgery," Spurs boss Thomas Frank told a news conference.

"It's a small procedure, so that will mean he is not ready [for Bodo/Glimt] and of course Leeds [on Saturday] as well. We'll have more news about a time frame after the international break, but I don't expect it to be long."

The 28-year-old England striker missed the majority of pre-season with an ankle issue, but it appeared to be fixed by the start of August as he played against Paris St-Germain, Burnley and Manchester City.

Frank was asked whether the club could have opted for surgery sooner and replied: "No, I think you can look at it two ways. That is the easy answer but it is not that easy because if we knew we could have done the surgery a month ago, we probably would have done it.

"For me I am always 'it is what it is'. We deal with it now and no doubt the way we dealt with it was because we thought that was the right thing. In general no-one wants surgery."

Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League with 11 points from their opening six matches, in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup and beat Villarreal 1-0 in their first Champions League game of the season.

Thomas Frank press conference: Bodo/Glimt vs Tottenham preview - BBC
Description

Frank confirmed Dominic Solanke will have "minor surgery" on an ankle issue that has been bothering him "for a little while", but the striker is not expected to be out for long and he will know more about a timeframe for his return after the international break.

He added that the club are "finally on top" of Randal Kolo Muani's dead leg so there is "good progress" and captain Cristian Romero not travelling with the squad is just a "precaution".

Asked about creativity in the final third, Frank said: "It's steps forward. Last year it was [Dejan] Kulusevski, [James] Maddison, Son [Heung-min] and Solanke as a front four. Now we have pretty much a new front four and they are doing very well. They are gelling more and more together and we try to give them the best tactics and principles."

On returning to Norway after beating Bodo in last season's Europa League semi-finals: "I've looked at that game, of course, but I've also looked at a lot of other games of Bodo. They're a fantastic team and their club is fantastic. Their story is unique in many ways. I'm pretty sure the whole of Europe knows about Bodo, because I think it's a little bit of a fairytale. I like that Scandinavian link between Denmark and Norway."

More on Tuesday's opponents: "I follow them a little bit, maybe a tiny bit closer, and the background, to see how they have built that club - aligning strategy, structure, hard work over years. What Kjetil Knutsen and his staff have done is remarkable. Their style of play is quite unique in many ways. Extremely well coached team. Big praise - I admire them a lot."

Frank opted to train at Hotspur Way rather than on Bodo's artificial pitch: "If we have training here [Norway] and we want to do a little bit of tactical [work], it would be a little bit more obvious what we would do. I know the surface is different. If you really want to get used to it you need to train here day in, day out as Bodo do. We are ready for that challenge but, for me, it was the tactical reason."

Tottenham news: Thomas Frank's progress and 'positive moments'

Tottenham news: Thomas Frank's progress and 'positive moments' - BBC
Description

Thomas Frank's Tottenham is clearly a work in progress.

Any hope of our 'Dr Tottenham' issue being a thing of the past soon faded with a frustratingly poor performance against Wolves on Saturday.

In particular, Xavi Simons looked like a player anxious to prove his worth and desperate to know the best position on the pitch to do this. Meanwhile, the lack of a quality striker was painfully obvious.

However, as disappointing as it was to gift points to Wolves, so far this season there are lots more reasons to feel positive about what Frank is developing than there are causes for concern.

Indeed, the fact we salvaged points by coming from behind against Brighton and Wolves is credit to the mindset that Frank has instilled in his squad.

There is a stronger psychological resilience that is complimented by a clearer understanding of roles and responsibilities depending on game state, carefully orchestrated by a manager who is not afraid to make decisive changes.

You could argue that we should not concede to these teams in the first place, but as other results this weekend proved, anything is possible in the most competitive football league in the world, and arrogance will be duly punished.

Frank strikes me as a details man who understands that as much as you can plan for success, you also have to react in the moment – because football is about moments. We share them. We analyse them. We dispute them. Sometimes I wonder if we have forgotten how to truly enjoy them – as evidenced by the backlash on social media following Joao Palhinha's goal celebration.

There is a long season ahead, full of trial and error while Frank and his players learn the best way forward. Personally, I'll be celebrating the positive moments as much as possible.

Tottenham news: Semi-final defeat 'made us stronger' - Bodo/Glimt sporting director - BBC
Description

Bodo/Glimt sporting director Havard Sakariassen says the club have "changed" since last season's Europa League semi-final defeat by Tottenham as the two sides prepare to meet again on Tuesday in the Champions League in Norway.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs won 3-1 in the fist leg before a 2-0 victory in the Arctic Circle to secure progression to the final they would go on to win.

But Sakariassen believes Bodo have learned from this experience as they embark on their first Champions League campaign.

"Tottenham actually played a really good game here at Aspmyra against us," he said.

"Really well organised, loyal to the plan and, of course, they have really world-class players. If they perform that well in their task, it is always going to be tough for us.

"For us, it was a lot of learning. The reflection for us after the game was [to ask if] there was enough level on the physical side. So, actually, that brought something to the table for us that we are grateful to have the knowledge about.

"It means we have since then changed and worked in a slightly better and more reflective way to see if we can realise the potential in the physical side of our players.

"That made us stronger and hopefully we will see that when we see them again that we actually moved up a step. That will be interesting."
