Rodrigo Bentancur: Kick it Out receives complaints over comments about Tottenham team-mate Son Heung-min - bbc.co.uk
Description

Anti-discrimination charity Kick it Out says it has received a "significant number" of complaints about a racial slur Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur used about team-mate Son Heung-min.

Appearing on Uruguayan TV, Bentancur was asked by a presenter for a Tottenham shirt, before replying: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

Bentancur later apologised on Instagram and said his comments were a "very bad joke".

"Kick It Out has received a significant number of reports about Rodrigo Bentancur’s comments," the charity said.

"These reports have already been sent to the club and relevant authorities."

The body acknowledged Bentancur's apology but added: "It highlights a wider issue that heavily affects East Asian and wider communities. We’ll be seeking to address these broader issues in the coming season."

Bentancur posted: "Sonny brother! I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke.

"You know I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you, brother!"

Son has not responded publicly to the apology.

Tottenham: Fans predict where Spurs will be after 10 games - BBC
Description

The fixtures for the new Premier League season are out and we asked you for your predictions on where Tottenham will be after 10 games.

Here is a selection of your comments:

Jack: We will be in the top two. North London derby at home first is usually unseen for us, but I've high hopes that with a couple of new signings we will be great! New striker and a new back-up left-back and right-back, and a number six, we will be top three all season.

Shane: It's a tough start to the league - easier fixtures are away and home fixtures are against the big teams. With no significant investment, I expect us to be sitting about eighth with 15-20 points.

Brambles: It all depends on whether we get Ivan Toney or not. If we do, we'll be in the top four. If not, we'll be sixth.

Pugsey: An away start is best, in my opinion. A tough fixture, but I see Spurs taking three points. Then it's about laying down a mark in the sand and showing they're here to compete - and Ange will insist on that. Top four after 10 games, including a win over Arsenal!

Bentancur apologises to Tottenham team-mate Son for 'bad joke' - BBC
Description

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has apologised to captain Son Heung-min for using a racial slur on Uruguayan television, saying it was a "very bad joke".

While appearing on Canal 10 show Por La Camiseta, Bentancur was asked by host Rafa Cotelo for a Spurs player's shirt.

The Uruguay international replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

After backlash to the clip, which was circulated on social media, he apologised to the South Korea international on Instagram.

"Sonny brother," he wrote. "I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke.

"You know I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you, brother!"

Son is yet to publicly respond to the apology.

The two players have been team-mates since Bentancur joined the club from Juventus in January 2022.

Bentancur is preparing to represent his country at this summer’s Copa America in the United States, which starts on 20 June.
