Inter Milan reportedly hold the right cards that would allow them to prevail in the race to sign Sampdoria teenager Giovanni Leoni.

The 17-year-old was one of the best revelations of the Serie B campaign. He made the mid-season switch from Padova and immediately became a protagonist at the back for Andrea Pirlo’s side.

The Blucerchiati will soon exercise their option to keep him on a permanent transfer. They will only spend 1.5 million euros to secure the deal.

This could ensure the Liguarians a major capital gain given that Leoni has already attracted the interest of a host of clubs between Italy and abroad.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri are facing competition from Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur for the Italian centre-back.

However, the Roman newspaper believes Inter could have the advantage in the race. The Nerazzurri could be able to forge a swap deal with Sampdoria who are interested in three Inter youngsters.

Therefore, Samp will attempt to keep the Serbian at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium for another year.

Moreover, the Serie B side will try to lure Filip’s younger brother as well. Aleksandar Stankovic is an 18-year-old midfielder who features for the Nerazzurri’s Primavera squad.

Finally, Sampdoria are also keeping tabs on another Inter Primavera starlet in the shape of Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The 19-year-old Nigerian midfielder has been developing his game at Inter since joining the club in January 2023.

The price tag for Sampdoria defender Giovanni Leoni has crept up to €6 million amid interest from Inter Milan, Juventus, and Spurs.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate something of a bidding war for the teenage defender.

Teenage defender Leoni spent last season on loan at Sampdoria.

The 17-year-old was at the Marassi on loan from Padova.

Despite his young age, Leoni carved out a place for himself at the heart of the Ligurian side’s defense.

Sampdoria had a purchase option to sign Leoni from Padova for €1.5 million. And there was never any question that they would exercise this.

And it is certainly looking as though the Ligurians will sell the 17-year-old this summer for a significant profit.

According to Tuttosport, the amount of interest that is emerging in Leoni’s signature could mean that the price tag rises beyond even what Sampdoria had initially hoped for.
