Dream Werner replacement: Spurs in contact over "magnificent" £41k-p/w ace

Description

It's been just over a month of seemingly non-stop speculation, rumours, and deals, but we've finally reached transfer deadline day, and it appears as if Tottenham Hotspur are looking to do more business.

So far, the Lilywhites have paid £12.5m for Slavia Prague shot-stopper Antonín Kinský and bought in RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danson on a short-term loan with an obligation to buy at £20.9m.

However, while reinforcements between the sticks and at the back were desperately needed, Ange Postecoglou's side could do with some help up top as well.

Fortunately, recent reports have linked the North Londoners with an exciting winger who could be the ideal replacement for Timo Werner.

Totteham target attacking ace

According to a recent report from the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Tottenham are interested in AC Milan ace Noah Okafor.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has claimed that West Ham United are also keen on the Swiss winger and that both Premier League sides have been in contact with the Rossoneri over a potential move.

The story has revealed that while Milan wanted to sell the player on a permanent deal earlier in the window, they'd now be willing to send him out on a short-term loan, which could prove too enticing an offer to pass up on for Spurs.

It might not be the game-changing signing fans are after, but the £41k-per-week dynamo could provide the extra attacking impetus that Postecoglou's side need at the moment and be the perfect replacement for Werner, who continues to underwhelm and could even be on his way to Major League Soccer before the season's over.

Why Okafor would be a Werner upgrade

While he has had a few notable performances here and there since joining Spurs, it would probably be fair to say that Werner's time in North London has been a disappointment.

The former Chelsea ace has certainly tried to help the team, but he's been unable to shift the perception of him being an incredibly profligate and frustrating forward, as evidenced by his lacklustre return of three goals and six assists in 40 appearances, totalling 1842 minutes.

So, with that in mind, it becomes incredibly clear why the club might be looking out for players who could come in and replace the German this month, and in Okafor, they might've found someone who can.

While the "electric" talent, as dubbed by respected football analyst Ben Mattinson, hasn't had the best of times in Milan, he's still been more effective than the RB Leipzig loanee has been under the ultra-attacking Postecoglou.

For example, in 36 appearances last season, totalling 1005 minutes, the "magnificent" forward, as dubbed by former coach Mauro Lustrinelli, managed to rack up a reasonable haul of six goals and three assists, which comes out to a goal involvement every four games, or every 111.66 minutes.

Furthermore, in the 22/23 campaign, his final with RB Salzburg, the 24-capped international managed to score ten goals and provide five assists in 32 appearances, totalling 1851 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 2.13 games, or every 123.4 minutes.

Ultimately, Okafor is unlikely to completely transform Spurs' attack this season, but he's shown over the last couple of years that, when given a chance, he can perform, and he'd undoubtedly be an upgrade on Werner.

Therefore, the Lilywhites must do what they can to bring the Swiss ace to N17 today, even if that means signing him on loan.

Tottenham have loan agreement to sign £38m defender for Ange after Danso

Tottenham now have a broad agreement in place to land another new face in the final hours of the January transfer window after striking an agreement to sign Kevin Danso, according to a fresh report.

Tottenham announce Danso capture

In a whirlwind 24 hours, Tottenham hijacked Premier League rivals Wolves' move for RC Lens defender Kevin Danso, with the Austrian centre-back instead joining Ange Postecoglou's side on an initial loan with an obligation to buy the centre-back at the end of the season.

As per the reliable Alasdair Gold, "when the obligation is activated this summer, Danso will start a five-year contract and the transfer fee will be €25m" (£20.9m), with the former Southampton defender added as cover for the current crop of centre-backs in north London amid fears over a season-ending knee injury to Radu Dragusin sustained in the win over Elfsborg.

Taking the no.4 shirt in north London, Danso will be available for the midweek Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool at Anfield, in which Spurs hold a slender lead thanks to a first-leg goal from Lucas Bergvall.

Though just their second signing of the January window following the arrival of Antonin Kinsky, there is potential for further business in the final 24 hours of the transfer window in north London, and now one report has claimed that Spurs could look to add another body to their backline as they look to bolster Postecoglou's options for the second half of the season.

Tottenham have "broad agreement" for defender

That comes as reporter Paul O'Keefe claims that Spurs have a "broad agreement" to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The Frenchman has struggled in the Premier League since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Monaco in a deal worth £38m, and has fallen out of favour under Enzo Maresca, with the club opting to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace and hand Josh Acheampong his debut rather than trust Disasi following a difficult evening against Ipswich Town.

Free to leave in the closing stages of the transfer window, both Tottenham and Aston Villa are keen on the centre-back, who can leave Stamford Bridge on loan.

And according to O'Keefe, it is an option that Tottenham are "still considering" despite the arrival of Danso, with the Lilywhites having struck a "broad agreement" with their London rivals over a temporary switch, though there is no further information over whether the deal would include an option or obligation to buy the Frenchman as was the case with Danso.

With Dragusin potentially out for the season and Tottenham in need of a centre-back even before that injury, Disasi could be a late mover and one for Spurs fans to keep an eye on in the final 24 hours of the transfer window.

Tottenham also make £3m+ offer to sign "powerful" young winger after Danso

Tottenham are now set to spark into life late in the transfer window as they look to improve what has been a dismal Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou so far.

Tottenham announce Danso deal

After astonishingly hijacking Kevin Danso's move to Wolves at the 11th hour, the Austrian has officially become a Tottenham player. The Lilywhites agreed a loan move for the RC Lens star, which also includes an obligation to buy the right-footed centre-back, who will wear the no.4 shirt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Danso, who already has Premier League experience courtesy of a short loan spell with Southampton, arrives to bolster a defence that has been crippled by injuries so far this season.

Though Spurs welcomed back Micky van de Ven in midweek, they lost Radu Dragusin to a knee injury, with fears that he could miss the remainder of the season after being forced off in the win over Elfsborg.

Danso is capable of playing on either side of defence, which will allow Posteoglou more opportunity to manage the minutes of both Van de Ven and Cristian Romero when the Argentine returns from injury.

It is reported that the Austrian will set Spurs back a total of €25m (£21m), with Danso likely to pen a long-term deal when his loan move becomes permanent in the summer.

His arrival could spark a flurry of late activity in north London too, with the club once again looking to the future as much as the present after being turned down by Mathys Tel last week.

Tottenham have bid rejected for winger

Sport Witness have relayed reports that Tottenham have had a bid rejected to sign Valencia teenage forward David Otorbi as they look to continue their plan to recruit elite young talent from around Europe.

The 17-year-old Spain U18 international has reportedly caught the eye of both Tottenham and Aston Villa, despite not making his debut for Valencia's senior team yet. It is claimed that the winger's "performances and profile" have convinced at least Tottenham to try and land him early, despite regulations meaning that he cannot move to England until January 2026, when he turns 18 years old.

Described as a "powerful" winger who has "insane speed matched with agile running and footwork" by one U23 scout, Otorbi has grabbed two assists in 12 outings for the Valencia second team this season.

Now, Tottenham have reportedly tabled a €4m (£3.3m) offer to take him away from Los Ches and bring him to north London. However, it has been knocked back by Valencia, with the Spanish outfit asking for a fee of €5m (£4.1m) to allow him to leave, "plus a percentage on a future sale" should Spurs look to cash in down the line.

Big upgrade on Tel: Spurs lodge late enquiry for "generational" PL star

Description

When it rains, it pours for Tottenham Hotspur, with the recent saga involving Bayern Munich's wantaway starlet, Mathys Tel, only serving to heap further misery on the North London outfit.

As Ange Postecoglou beautifully put it himself amid the loss of Radu Dragusin to injury in midweek, "every time I've seen the light at the end of the tunnel, it's usually been an oncoming train." Poetic indeed.

Hampered by an ever-growing list of absentees, the Lilywhites are seemingly in desperate need of reinforcements before the deadline, albeit with it looking as if chairman Daniel Levy has failed in his charm offensive over Tel, with the teenager rejecting the chance to move to N17 after a £50m agreement had been reached.

While that refusal may lie more in the forward's hesitation over making a permanent exit from the Allianz Arena, it will sting all the same, with just a matter of days left for Spurs to turn their attention elsewhere...

Tottenham looking at Mathys Tel alternatives

For a team that have scored 46 Premier League goals this season - the third most in the division - there could be an argument that it is not the attacking unit that is in need of strengthening, not least with a 19-year-old who has failed to score at all this season in Germany.

If Postecoglou's squad is to be appropriately bolstered at the top end of the pitch - whether that is needed or not - it may require a far more Premier League-proven talent to arrive in the door, hence the club's apparent interest in Manchester United sensation, Alejandro Garnacho.

As per the Daily Mail, Tottenham are said to have launched a surprise late enquiry regarding the Spain-born, Argentina international, with United seemingly open to a sale for a fee in the region of £60m.

The report claims that Levy's approach was centred on doing a deal on an initial loan basis, amid their long-standing interest in the winger, although negotiations are yet to 'progress'.

How Garnacho compares to Mathys Tel

The question of whether a new left-winger is a priority - amid the rise of the likes of Mikey Moore - is a valid one, although few Spurs supporters would seemingly turn up their nose at the addition of a "generational" talent like Garnacho, as hailed by Statman Dave.

Attitude issues have been a potential concern at Old Trafford in recent times, with the wideman left out of the Manchester Derby back in December by manager Ruben Amorim, although when in the groove, the former Atletico Madrid starlet is a real terror down the flanks.

Previously lauded as a "game-changer" by journalist Samuel Luckhurst, the 20-year-old has worked his way back into favour under Amorim of late, starring off the bench in Bucharest in midweek after teeing up teammate Kobbie Mainoo to make it 2-0 on the night.

A direct and relentless winger, in the mould of a Son Heung-min perhaps, Garnacho appears particularly well suited to the front-footed Postecoglou approach, with his record in recent seasons ensuring he would be a truly worth arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Yes, Tel is certainly exciting too, but only a year older than the Frenchman, Garnacho has proven his talents on a far more consistent basis, having already chalked up 14 goals and assists in all competitions this season. Tel, meanwhile, boasts just one assist and no goals.

In all in 2023/24, Garnacho registered 15 goals and assists - only one short of what Tel achieved at Bayern. As can be seen in the table above however, it is the United academy graduate who perhaps represents the more all-round option, while boasting the benefit of his Premier League experience.

Having been stung in the past by losing the likes of Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov to the Manchester side, how nice it would be for Spurs to get their own back for change, landing what could well be a big upgrade on Tel in the process.

Ange's next Werner: Levy makes contact to sign £80k-p/w talent at Spurs

Monday's deadline looms large and as yet, Tottenham Hotspur's only senior arrival has been that of 21-year-old goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky, having been knocked back in their bid to sign fellow youngster, Mathys Tel.

As Ange Postecoglou said himself last week, the north London side would be "playing with fire" if they did not bring in further reinforcements before the window closes, particularly amid their worsening injury crisis.

Across the park, the Lilywhites appear more depleted with each passing game, having seen Radu Dragusin - who arrived from Genoa a year ago - cruelly struck down by injury after entering the fray at half-time against Elfsborg.

With Spurs still competing on all four fronts, this threadbare squad simply needs help, with Daniel Levy running the risk of letting his club slip further into the mire, if he does not back his manager over the next 48 hours or so.

Latest Tottenham transfer news

The blow of missing out on wantaway Bayern Munich man, Tel, has been somewhat eased amid the news that Tottenham could be looking to land the signing of AC Milan defender, Fikayo Tomori, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the Serie A side are keen to move the centre-back on in the coming days.

Interestingly, the Englishman may not be the only player with Chelsea connections to have come onto Levy's radar, with Caught Offside reporting that the north Londoners are also 'exploring the possibility' of signing Axel Disasi from Stamford Bridge on loan.

The report suggests that the Blues are willing to allow the Frenchman to leave the club amid his limited role under Enzo Maresca, with Aston Villa having also been in the race for his signature of late.

As Romano reported early on Saturday, the loss of Dragusin could see Spurs move for two centre-backs, ensuring that there is a chance both Tomori and Disasi could arrive at N17.

Indeed, Romano has also revealed that Spurs have made contact regarding a move for the Chelsea man, even though he has already agreed terms with Villa.

What Disasi would bring to Spurs

It may be somewhat difficult to judge Disasi based on his peripheral role at Chelsea in recent times - having started just four Premier League games this season - yet those of a Spurs persuasion will likely be concerned at the prospect of signing the former Monaco man from their rivals.

Indeed, have they not learned their lesson from the loan capture of Timo Werner last year, with the German signing from RB Leipzig in January 2024, having previously failed to thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Signed by the Blues for £45m in the summer of 2020, Werner went on to win the Champions League during his time in west London, albeit while scoring just 23 goals in 89 games over the next two seasons.

Now under Postecoglou's wing at Spurs, the forward's woes have been replicated in Lilywhite, with just three goals coming his way in 40 games over the last 12 months. The 28-year-old also came under fire from his manager for an "unacceptable" showing against Rangers in the Europa League.

The fear would be that looking to sign another player who has 'failed' at Chelsea in the form of Disasi could lead to a similar result, with the 26-year-old having endured a wretched time of it in his current home.

Described as a "disaster" by pundit Andy Jacobs, Disasi's Chelsea stint has been littered with mistakes, including his wayward own goal against Leicester City in the FA Cup last season, as well as his stray pass in the build-up to Omari Hutchinson's clincher against Ipswich Town this term.

Equally, his statistics across the last 365 days make for grim reading, as he ranks in the bottom 35% for tackles and the bottom 15% for interceptions among those in his position across Europe's top five leagues, as well as in just the top 41% for aerial duels won, as per FBref.

While a 91% pass completion average is encouraging, it is difficult to overlook the £80k-per-week defender's defensive woes, with it tricky to see just why he'd fare any better in Postecoglou's struggling side.

The flawed signing of one Chelsea 'flop' in Werner should be enough for Levy and co to think again, amid their apparent pursuit of Disasi.

Tottenham make contact in late January move for "special" Man City forward

Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach to sign a "special" player from Man City, as Ange Postecoglou's side chase their first outfield winter deal in dramatic fashion.

Tottenham's scattergun January market amid injury crisis

It is never a normal day at Spurs, with club chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange desperately attempting to back Postecoglou in the final days of this window amid the club's severe injury crisis.

Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Cristian Romero, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Radu Dragusin are all set to miss Tottenham's clash away to Brentford on Sunday, with Postecoglou in disbelief over their bad luck with injuries this season.

"Every time I’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s usually been an oncoming train," said Postecoglou on Tottenham's player availability concerns.

"We've obviously got a big week, but we play Villa in the cup, and then we've got a clean week to Manchester United (on February 16) and that's the week all of them are sort of scheduled to start training.

"To have a full week of training with those guys available leading into the Man United game, I think it is a little bit of a point for us to relaunch our campaign, particularly in the league, but then we have real big games of consequence in the cups coming around as well.

"I mean, that's why I’m trying to manage the minutes of the guys we have available because we don't want to lose anyone else."

In botched attempts to reinforce the squad recently, Randal Kolo Muani snubbed a move to Tottenham in favour of Juventus, while Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel also rejected Spurs' advances.

Tottenham now appear to have adopted a scattergun approach to the final 72 hours of the window, as many names are linked with moves to north London.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, writing for The Boot Room, Man City attacking midfielder James McAtee is now a target for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham have made contact over signing McAtee from City in the last 36 hours, and while it is stated that Pep Guardiola's side are not entertaining the prospect of him leaving, what is clear is that the homegrown Englishman could tick many boxes for Postecoglou.

McAtee can play a variety of roles in the final third and may be worth a punt considering he's hardly featured for the Sky Blues this campaign. The 22-year-old is still young with plenty of resale value, so if Levy were to pursue a permanent deal, it would also make sense from a business perspective.

The former Sheffield United star's price tag stands at around £25m, and Guardiola has previously branded McAtee a "special" player.

"I'm so happy for him, he's a special player," said Guardiola after McAtee's hat-trick against Salford City in the FA Cup.

"Making a hat-trick is not easy. He started a bit flat, I would say, but after, he has an incredible sense in front of the goal. He has the right tempo, changed the rhythm to score and [I'm] really happy for him."

Tottenham make surprise late approach to sign £195k-per-week Chelsea star

Tottenham Hotspur have made surprise contact over signing a high-earning Chelsea star in the final days of this window, as Spurs frantically look to acquire an outfield signing for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham suffer transfer rejections from Mathys Tel and Fikayo Tomori

The window has become pretty embarrassing for the north Londoners, as it is reliably reported that Postecoglou's side could be facing a third public rejection of the last few days.

Chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Germany on Friday in an attempt to convince Mathys Tel to join Tottenham, as per Fabrizio Romano and others, but the Frenchman snubbed their advances despite Spurs' agreed £50m deal with Bayern Munich.

Levy flew home empty-handed, but the Premier League strugglers swiftly moved on by opening talks to sign Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

The club-to-club negotiations were going smoothly, with Italian reporter Daniele Longo and other Serie A news sources reporting that Spurs' £25m offer had been accepted by Milan.

However, Tomori apparently didn't fancy joining Tottenham either (Gianluca Di Marzio), and plenty of doubt is currently surrounding a move for the Englishman.

It is a sorry state of affairs for the club, and questions are rightfully being asked as to why Spurs have left it this late to pursue these targets. An air of desperation is resonating from N17, with Postecoglou's side now looking across London to Chelsea in search of solutions.

According to various reports, Tottenham are exploring a late loan deal for Axel Disasi, and it is now believed that they've asked the Blues to help solve their shortage of forward options as well.

Tottenham make surprise approach for Christopher Nkunku

As per journalist Graeme Bailey, writing for The Boot Room, wantaway £195,000-per-week winger Christopher Nkunku is now under consideration by Tottenham.

Tottenham are said to have made a "shock" enquiry for Nkunku within the last day, but going by other reports, they face very stiff competition.

The 27-year-old agreed terms with Bayern Munich early last month (Florian Plettenberg), while Man United have been linked with a potential Nkunku swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho.

It is unclear how likely it is that Spurs can move forward with an Nkunku deal as of now, but his versatility and quality would make him a stellar late capture. The France international can play almost anywhere across the attacking third, scoring 13 goals in all competitions this season.

"His qualities are incredible," said former RB Leipzig assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer.

"This season, in the space of just a few weeks, he has taken several steps forward, which means he can now be considered as a world-class player."

Tottenham offered "extraordinary" £50m striker after failed Mathys Tel deal

Tottenham Hotspur have been presented with a late-window chance to sign an "extraordinary" forward, amid their failed pursuit of Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel, who rejected a move to north London on Friday.

Mathys Tel snubs Tottenham transfer after Daniel Levy talks

Spurs were determined to strike a deal for Tel, with Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy even travelling to Munich in an effort to sway the player's thinking (Fabrizio Romano).

However, the boardroom chief's efforts were in vain, as the 19-year-old snubbed a move to Spurs and became their second high-profile rejection of the window after their publicly botched swoop for Randal Kolo Muani.

Tottenham are now back to square one in their search for a new centre-forward, with Dominic Solanke sidelined and manager Ange Postecoglou bereft of options amid an ongoing injury crisis.

According to David Ornstein, Tel expressed his desire to remain at Bayern until the summer, where he will look to reassess his options despite the plethora of clubs chasing his signature before the 3rd February deadline.

In any case, Postecoglou needs options now, and they've since been handed a chance to strike a potential deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface.

Tottenham offered Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface

The prolific Nigerian bagged 21 goals and a further 10 assists for the Bundesliga champions last season, displaying proficiency again this term with 8 goals from his last 15 appearances in all competitions.

Boniface was on the verge of a £50m switch to Al-Nassr, but that deal fell through due to Jhon Duran's move there.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, writing for The Boot Room, Tottenham have been offered Boniface via intermediaries, who are attempting to push him towards the Premier League.

The 24-year-old's quality is evident, but Boniface's injury record doesn't make for pretty viewing, so Spurs will want to think carefully about this one if they opt to pursue this transfer.

Manager Xabi Alonso has previously lavished praise on Boniface, while teammate Florian Wirtz says he's a player who can do "extraordinary" things following an incredible pass in the build-up to a goal earlier this season.

"That’s his signature move. He’s the best at it in the world of football. He can do extraordinary things with the ball."

Tottenham Hotspur technical director Johan Lange, who's leading the club's recruitment drive before deadline day, remains on the hunt for their first outfield signing of the January transfer window - which closes in two days.

Tottenham rejected by Mathys Tel as Fikayo Tomori talks begin

On Friday, Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel informed chairman Daniel Levy of his decision not to join Spurs in person, with the Lilywhites chief travelling to Munich for talks but ultimately failing to convince the Frenchman.

That is according to credible media sources, including the likes of Fabrizio Romano and Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, with the latter even claiming that Tel could now stay at Bayern despite appearing to wave goodbye to supporters earlier this week.

In any case, it is a seismic blow for Tottenham, who suffered their second high-profile, public rejection of the window after Randal Kolo Muani decided to choose Juventus over a move to north London (Fabrice Hawkins).

Now, in an attempt to save face and back manager Ange Postecoglou with a much-needed centre-back, Levy and Lange are said to be in advancing talks over signing AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

The Rossoneri want this deal done as much as Spurs, but in the event Postecoglou's side suffer their third rejection and can't agree terms with Tomori, then some media sources are claiming that Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is on their radar as an alternative.

Tottenham exploring loan deal for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi

As per CaughtOffside, Tottenham are exploring a loan deal for Disasi, with the Frenchman's mooted move to Aston Villa appearing to stall.

Postecoglou is waiting to find out the extent of Radu Dragusin's injury problem, and if he's set to be out for a long period, there is absolutely no question that Tottenham need to get a centre-back over the line before the February 3rd deadline.

Disasi can play as both a centre-back and right-back, plugging two gaps at once for Postecoglou, and he's been praised for his past form at Reims as a "dominant" defender.

Tottenham Hotspur have held “concrete talks” to sign a £20m+ attacking "monster", according to a Sky Sports journalist.

Tottenham qualify for Europa League last 16 with win over Elfsborg

Ange Postecoglou’s side got back to winning ways on Thursday evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with youngsters Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore all scoring in a 3-0 Europa League win over Elfsborg to book their place in the last 16.

Talking after the win, Postecoglou said: “It was "Made in Tottenham" tonight. It's brilliant for the club and I'm sure there are academy coaches and players who won't sleep because they are pretty excited. We've got a big week coming up and we've got to try to manage the load of our players and try to protect them.

“We kind of knew we would have to rely on some young players tonight and all the way through this campaign to be honest. I thought they stood up really well. The whole group played well but we were going to need some young boys to make an impact and not just the three goalscorers.

“We had a couple of 18-year-olds in there as well who continue to drive us on. So it's a great night for the club and something the whole academy should be proud of.”

Attention now turns back to the Premier League and the transfer market, with Monday evening’s deadline fast approaching.

So far, Spurs have only brought in one new player in goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, although Postecoglou admitted he could do with more due to the sheer number of injuries in the squad.

Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel has been heavily linked with a permanent big-money move to north London, with a verbal €60m agreement being reached and Levy travelling for talks. Since then, it has been claimed that Tel will not join Spurs and has informed them of their decision, as per Fabrizio Romano, but another attacker is of interest to Spurs, albeit for the summer window.

Tottenham hold “concrete talks” to sign Tzimas – Sky Sports

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg in the last 48 hours, Tottenham have held “concrete talks” to sign Stefanos Tzimas, currently playing at 1. FC Nurnberg.

Any transfer would cost around €25m (£21m) in the summer, with top-flight rivals Aston Villa also in discussions with the attacker. However, it is Brighton & Hove Albion who are leading the race for Tzimas at this moment in time.

Tzimas, described as a “monster”, is currently on loan at Nurnberg from PAOK but the German side plan to activate a permanent transfer for €18m before potentially selling the teenager on straightaway.

The Greek forward has been in impressive form during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 10 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions. That has resulted in praise from German football expert Tobias Kroger, who compared Tzimas to Benjamin Sesko.

“He reminds me a lot of Benjamin Sesko. He has a really interesting all around package for a striker: He's good in the air but also quick for his height. He is good at making runs into open spaces but is also clinical in one-vs-one situations with the keeper. His link-up play is also very good. His technique is also very good but not elite.”
