Tottenham Hotspur are set to explore a January deal for another PSG player after missing out on a move for winger Randal Kolo Muani, who is set to join Juventus instead of Ange Postecoglou's side.

Spurs lose race with Juventus for Randal Kolo Muani signing

The Lilywhites held talks with PSG on Monday (Fabrizio Romano), but Juventus eventually won the race for his signature, as Postecoglou and Spurs' recruitment team now return to the drawing board in their search for another forward.

While Juve and PSG are yet to announce the deal, the feeling is that it will still happen, but the latter side needs to sell one of their loan players before making it official - as they're currently maxed out on their allocated temporary deals per season.

There is little hope of Spurs hijacking Juve's deal at this stage, but Postecoglou's team have their eyes on another PSG ace in £264,000-per-week defender Milan Skriniar.

Some reports have suggested that the north Londoners have held talks over signing the Slovakia international already, who was a rumoured transfer target for ex-Spurs boss José Mourinho as far back as 2020.

“They’re also been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain about taking Milan Skriniar, who’s another notable player available in this window,” said journalist Duncan Castles recently.

“PSG will let him go. They’ve allowed him to talk to other clubs. Again, not a favourite of Enrique’s. They have interest in him from Serie A clubs, and they are basically going to wait and see who gives them the best offer by the end of the window.

"So that is an option for Tottenham to get someone into their defence, who’s actually a centre back in the centre of their defence.”

Tottenham set to explore late January deal for Milan Skriniar

Sharing an update on their interest in the 29-year-old, journalist Pete O'Rourke has told Football Insider that Tottenham's pursuit of the player is still very much alive.

Ben Davies is set to return from injury against Everton tomorrow, according to Postecoglou in his latest press conference, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero also back towards the end of this month.

However, the trio's absences have seriously exposed their lack of depth in recent weeks, and Tottenham's fragility at the back has been a big talking point.

Tottenham are set to explore a late January deal for Skriniar as a result, with the club potentially looking to squeeze a good deal out of PSG during the final phase of the window when pressure to conclude agreements is high.

O'Rourke says to "keep an eye" on the former Inter Milan star's exit from Paris, as it is looking highly likely with Spurs on red alert.

Tottenham plot bid for £25m Juventus target after losing Kolo Muani race

Tottenham Hotspur are evaluating the possibility of a late January bid to sign a Juventus transfer target, amid reports he could cost under £30 million to bring in this month.

Speaking ahead of their trip to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou shared an update on the state of play in regard to the club's winter window transfer activity.

Tottenham fell short in their pursuit of PSG outcast Randal Kolo Muani, who joined Juventus on a season-long loan deal, with time slowly running out for technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy to get extra bodies through the door.

The Lilywhites have suffered serious squad shortages throughout 2024/2025, thanks to repeated injuries and suspensions, and Postecoglou says the north Londoners are working hard on signing quality new players before deadline day.

"Club is working hard as it can and that's all you can ask for," said Postecoglou on potential January incomings.

"January's not an easy month but I do know a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to try to get some reinforcements in."

The 59-year-old also confirmed Spurs' previous interest in Kolo Muani, before he opted to join Juve, and Postecoglou also said that he's not entirely fussed about losing that race for the forward's signature.

"For me? No," said Postecoglou when asked if missing out on Kolo Muani was a blow.

"We were in... Well, it depends what you mean by in. We've been interested and were looking at a number of players. But did we get to the point where we thought he was coming to us? No.

"It is tricky as all clubs are finding. And I guess traditionally it ramps up in that final week so we're approaching there for all clubs. It's even trickier in January because one you try to acquire a player, the club wants to replace that player. So there's all sorts of logistics involved."

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies will be returning from injury sooner rather than later, but Tottenham have still been linked with a new centre-back for this window alongside an attacker.

Tottenham weighing up January bid for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori

According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori remains a target for Postecoglou's side after he was linked at the very start of January.

It is believed that Spurs are considering a January bid for Tomori, but face competition from Juve yet again - who've tabled an offer to sign the former Chelsea player on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy set at around £21 million.

The Old Lady may fall short, though, as other reports suggest Tomori commands a price tag of around £25 million.

Tottenham Hotspur are busy attempting to back under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou with fresh faces in January, but a current squad member has now set his sights on leaving N17.

Ange Postecoglou facing mounting pressure at Tottenham

Postecoglou, who has been forced to cope with a severely-depleted squad for the majority of this Premier League season, faces mounting pressure amid backlash from critics - with Spurs losing a dismal 11 top flight matches already.

The Lilywhites slipped to 14th earlier this week, losing four out of their last five matches, and this kind of form has prompted questions whether Postecoglou is really the right man for the job after all.

Chairman Daniel Levy reportedly continues to back the 59-year-old behind-closed-doors, but the tactician faces an end-of-season review. Tottenham have also shortlisted Edin Terzic as a potential replacement for Postecoglou, should they part company, as the club do their due-diligence on managerial targets in the event they're forced into a tough decision (TEAMtalk).

In the meantime, Postecoglou's desperately looking to turn Spurs' fortunes around, and technical director Johan Lange is actively looking for potential solutions in the January transfer market.

Lange missed out on a deal for Randal Kolo Muani, who ended up joining Juventus on a season-long loan deal from PSG, with Tottenham now back in the market for a forward as they seek to bolster Postecoglou's attacking options.

Spurs have been offered Lyon star Rayan Cherki (GiveMeSport), who could leave for a bargain £25 million this month amid the Ligue 1 side's financial crisis, and he may well be perfect for Postecoglou, considering the Frenchman stands out as their star player.

There are options for the north Londoners, and their need to bring in another attacker could be exacerbated further by a potential exit for Richarlison.

Richarlison decides he wants to leave Tottenham

As per Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey, Richarlison has told friends he wants to quit Tottenham, and he's fully made up his mind on the decision.

The Brazilian appears determined to make a move away, and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are rumoured to have registered a past interest in tempting him to the Middle East.

The former Everton star enjoyed a serious purple patch under Postecoglou this time last year, but his 24/25 campaign has been hampered by injury. Richarlison cost £60 million to sign from the Toffees in 2022, and on the whole, he hasn't quite justified that price tag despite flashes of brilliance.

For Brazil, he's been a consistent goalscorer, with pundit Micah Richards calling the South American "underrated" during his time at Tottenham.

“He’s underrated isn’t he. If you look at how Everton set up going through a relegation battle, a lot of times he receives the ball he’s deep,” Richards said on the BBC in 2022 (via TBR).

“ I think we are seeing someone who can play the number nine role, and he has been given a chance. The big talk was about Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison and we were like Jesus has to play, but he’s showing us why he’s the number nine.”

Their answer to Saliba: Spurs enter race for "phenomenal" £21m titan

It's been a tough campaign for Tottenham Hotspur this season, made all the more so by Wednesday night's defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby.

Ange Postecoglou's side went into that game with not much to lose and hoping to put the nail in the Gunners' Premier League title challenge, but despite taking the lead, they came away empty-handed.

The Lilywhites were not terrible on the night, but aside from Son Heung-min's goal, they struggled to lay a finger on their bitter rivals, as the indomitable Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba kept them at arm's length for most of the encounter.

The Brazilian was the flashier of the pair, but the French international put in yet another performance that reaffirmed his place among the best centre-backs in world football, and interestingly, recent reports have linked Spurs with a defender who's been compared to him.

Tottenham's search for a centre-back

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Tottenham are one of several clubs interested in AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has revealed that fellow Premier League sides West Ham United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also keen, while Serie A giants Juventus are also thought to be 'preparing a formal offer' of around €25m, which is about £21m.

However, there is no indication of whether that would be enough to tempt the Rossoneri into selling, and according to the report, new manager Sergio Conceicao wants the Englishman to stay 'and play an important role in his tactical set-up.'

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Tomori's ability and the fact he's won comparisons to Saliba, it's certainly one worth fighting for.

How Tomori compares to Saliba

So, before we get into some of the other reasons Spurs might want to sign Tomori this month, let's examine this comparison to Saliba and where it comes from.

Well, it primarily stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions in Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League then creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and, in this instance, has concluded that the Frenchman is the second most similar centre-back to the Englishman over the last 365 days.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including, but not limited to, passing accuracy, expected assists, tackles won, tackles plus interceptions, clearances, fouls won and more, all per 90.

With that said, while being compared to one of the most highly-rated defenders in the game today is certainly reason enough to sign the Milan ace, there are others as well.

For example, the "phenomenal" 27-year-old, as dubbed by content creator George Benson, now has bucket loads of experience, from playing in the Premier League and Serie A to winning domestic cups and the league itself with Milan; he'd bring a much-needed winners mentality to Posetcoglou's dressing room.

Ultimately, it could be a tricky transfer to get over the line, but signing Tomori this month would help massively improve Spurs' defence and squad overall, so Daniel Levy and Co should do what they can to get it done as soon as possible.

He's way better than Solanke: Spurs in the picture for £84m goal machine

So far, this season has been a challenging one for Tottenham Hotspur and their fans.

Ange Postecoglou's side are still in three cup competitions and, therefore, stand a real chance of ending their trophy drought, but in the Premier League, they have been abysmal.

Wednesday night's defeat to Arsenal was the team's 11th of the season, and following Manchester United's comeback win on Thursday, the Lilywhites find themselves down in 14th place heading into game week 22.

Now, there have been some positives, such as how Dominic Solanke has settled into life in N17, but based on recent reports, his place in the team could be at risk, as the club have been linked to a superstar number nine who looks to be significantly better than the Englishman.

Tottenham in the picture for goalscoring phenomenon

According to a recent interview with journalist and transfers expert Ben Jacobs on GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast, Tottenham could be one of several teams who target Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this month.

On the topic of the incredible Swede, Jacobs said, "I also think Tottenham could enter the conversation for [Viktor] Gyokeres," which might just be music to the ears of Spurs fans who are crying out for more goals in their team.

Jacobs does not mention how much it might cost the Lilywhites to sign the Sporting ace, but reports from earlier this week reiterated that he has a release clause in his contract worth £84m.

It would likely be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but given Gyokeres' immense ability, it's one worth fighting for, even if it could be bad news for Solanke.

How Gyokeres compares to Solanke

The first thing to say is that Solanke has been a brilliant addition to Spurs' squad this season and has done nothing to warrant being replaced, but in the brutal world of football, clubs must take the chances to upgrade their current players when presented with an opportunity, and Gyokeres would undoubtedly be an upgrade.

For example, in just 30 appearances this season, the "world-class" marksman, as dubbed by BBC Sport producer Noah Mcilroy, has scored a whopping 32 goals and provided six assists to boot, equating to an absurd average of 1.26 goal involvements per game.

In contrast, the former Bournemouth star has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and provided six assists in 29 appearances this season, which comes to an average of 0.58 goal involvements per game.

Unfortunately for the Lilywhites ace, the one-sided nature of this comparison continues when we take a look under the hood at their underlying numbers.

For example, the former Coventry City poacher comes out on top in practically every metric, including but not limited to actual and expected non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive carries, passing accuracy, key passes, passes into the penalty area, goal and shot-creating actions, successful take-ons and more, all per 90.

On top of having vastly superior underlying numbers, the Stockholm-born ace also has the experience of playing in the biggest competition of all: the Champions League.

He has already scored five goals in just six games in the competition, including a hat trick against Manchester City, so it's clear that pressure means very little to him.

Ultimately, Solanke is an excellent striker, but Gyokeres is on another level entirely, and if Spurs find themselves with even the slightest of opportunities to sign him this month or in the summer, they must take it.

A reliable journalist has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could now move for a Premier League striker, and it is a deal to watch out for this month.

Ange Postecoglou pleads for Dominic Solanke help at Tottenham

Overall, summer signing Dominic Solanke has impressed in under-performing Spurs team this season - having totalled 11 goals and six assists in all competitions throughout 2024/2025 so far.

The England international has also proved himself a big-game player, scoring against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United, but Postecoglou has sent a clear message to the Lilywhites hierarchy in regard to providing Solanke with support going forward.

"If we can get him some help, yeah [he will continue to fill the Kane gap]," said Postecoglou about Solanke.

"Dom has just been outstanding in the way he’s carried the frontline for us during this period. With the way we play, we put a lot of demands on that position. It’s not just him standing up there scoring goals, it’s working hard for the team.

"I really think if Richy was available, I think [Dom)] would have been able to contribute even greater for us in terms of his output in goals. I really love what he brings to us as a team from a football perspective, from a cultural perspective. The only growth we’ve seen in recent times is him and Deki becoming on-field leaders in the team.

"With Dom being a new player, it probably would have been easier for him to slip in and do his job but he’s taken on the responsibility of helping the whole team. He’s been great for us. I really feel there is more to him and his game. We’ll be able to get more out of him if we can him some help."

Chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange did attempt to find Solanke that support with Tottenham's recent talks to sign Randal Kolo Muani, but the Frenchman chose Juventus over a season-long loan to N17.

Tottenham could move for Ipswich Town star Liam Delap

According to Ben Jacobs, speaking on GiveMeSport's Market Madness podcast, Ipswich Town star Liam Delap could emerge as a transfer target for Spurs.

The Englishman, valued at around £42 million by Kieran McKenna's side, has enjoyed an excellent campaign at Portman Road - bagging eight Premier League goals for a side battling relegation.

Jacobs has told supporters to keep an eye on Tottenham potentially moving for Delap, but they'll face stiff competition from across London, as Chelsea also take note of his exploits.

"I would keep an eye on Liam Delap for Chelsea and Spurs," said Jacobs.

"I also think Tottenham could enter the conversation for [Viktor] Gyokeres and [Jonathan] David is a really interesting one for Tottenham, for West Ham, for Newcastle, and several others, because he is a free agent, so he's going to be one of the bargains of the summer, presuming nobody tries their luck in January."

Tottenham Hotspur have been offered an "outrageous" forward by intermediaries, and according to critics, the player currently stands out as one of January's biggest potential bargains.

Spurs target new forward after Randal Kolo Muani blow

Their previous top target for the attacking areas, Randal Kolo Muani, chose to make the move to Juventus this week - snubbing Spurs in the process and forcing Ange Postecoglou to identify different targets.

The Lilywhites have lost four out of their last five Premier League games, tasting defeat on 11 different occasions in the top flight alone this season, and pressure is seriously mounting on Postecoglou as supporters grow dissatisfied.

This January window could be key in helping to turn the club's fortunes around, with injuries ravaging Postecoglou's squad throughout 2024/2025. Kolo Muani signing for Juventus over Spurs is a blow for chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange, who missed out on one of the "best versatile attackers available" (David Ornstein).

Tottenham were tussling with Juve over Kolo Muani as recently as Monday (Fabrizio Romano), but with the Frenchman's decision made, there are reports that the north Londoners have set their sights on ambitious alternatives.

According to Football Transfers, Spurs have made a "concrete" approach for Alejandro Garnacho, and Man United could be tempted by a £60 million bid. Postecoglou is also monitoring Bryan Mbeumo, with his Brentford expiring in 2026.

Both of the aforementioned options will cost north of £50 million if their clubs do sell this month.A more astute option who is more readily available, given Lyon's financial crisis and provisional relegation to Ligue 2, is highly-rated winger Rayan Cherki.

Tottenham offered Lyon winger Rayan Cherki by agents

As per GiveMeSport, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Cherki by agents, who are actively scouring the market to find a new home for the Frenchman.

The 21-year-old is capable of playing anywhere across the front three, similar to Kolo Muani, and even further forward when required. He's arguably Lyon's star player as well, averaging more key passes and successful take-ons per 90 than anybody in their squad (WhoScored).

Furthermore, reports state that Cherki could be available for as little as £25 million, which makes him a very attractive option for Levy and co. When taking all of this into account, you can make a serious case that Cherki is the perfect fit for Tottenham, and possesses plenty of resale value as a young player.

Journalists like Dean Jones have even called his price tag "too good to be true" in serious praise of the player.

"You see figures around Cherki and there’s like 25 million pounds is talked about, which just seems like too good to be true. He’s just different, this player," said Jones.

“If you haven’t seen Cherki play, then just either stop the pod and go and watch him on YouTube for 10 minutes and then come back or just go watch him while we’re talking right now. Because his skill level is outrageous. He feels like he could become one of the best players in the world.”

Their very own Saka: Spurs want to sign "one of the best players in the PL"

Description

It would be fair to say that this season has been tough for Tottenham Hotspur.

The club may still be in three cup competitions at present, but their form in the Premier League has been diabolical, with Wednesday night's defeat to Arsenal being their 11th of the campaign.

What's worse is that Ange Postecoglou's usually ultra-positive side didn't even offer much in attack and looked bereft of ideas for much of the encounter.

Fortunately, recent reports have linked the club with an incredibly exciting Premier League star who could be their answer to the Gunners' Bukayo Saka.

Spurs chase Premier League star

According to a recent report from French outlet RMC Sports, Tottenham are one of several clubs interested in Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has claimed that the Gunners and Manchester United are also incredibly keen on landing the inform winger this month.

However, the story has also revealed that, due to the Bees' position in the league and successful campaign thus far, it would take a 'big cheque' to tempt them into selling, with reports from earlier this month claiming an offer in the region of £50m might do.

It would be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Mbeumo's immense ability, it's one worth fighting for, especially as there are some apparent similarities between him and Saka.

How Mbeumo could be Spurs' Saka

Now, Spurs fans might not like Saka for understandable partisan reasons, but there is no denying that the Arsenal man is one of the best wingers in world football, let alone the Premier League, as before suffering his hamstring injury, he had racked up a haul of nine goals and 13 assists in just 24 games this season.

So, the fact that Mbeumo shares some similarities with him can only be a good thing, and the first similarity is his productivity.

For example, in just 25 appearances this season, the former Troyes star, whom pundit Dan Bardell recently dubbed "one of the best players in the Premier League," has found the back of the net on 13 occasions and provided four assists for good measure, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.47 games.

On top of this ability to change games with a goal or assist, the Cameroonian international shares some physical traits with the Hale Ender.

For example, while the Englishman is three inches taller than the 5 foot 7 Bees star, they are both unassumingly strong and share a low centre of gravity, which helps them manoeuvre with the ball and send opposition full-backs the wrong way when out on the wing.

Moreover, both are left-footed right-wingers, which facilitates their nature to cut in and fire off a shot from just outside the box or from inside when they time their runs just right.

Finally, both players have become the focal points of the respective teams, with the Arsenal ace taking up the mantle in light of a weaker left-side and lack of clinical strikers, while Mbeumo stepped up in the absence of Ivan Toney last season and hasn't relinquished that spotlight since.

Ultimately, it might cost an arm and a leg to get down this month, but if Spurs want to instantly improve Ange's attacking options, then they have to sign the Brentford star, as he's got all the ingredients to explode at a top six side, and maybe even become their answer to Saka.

Dream Son replacement: Spurs now exploring move to sign big-money PL star

Last night was one to forget for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou's side had a chance to turn their season around and put a massive dent in Arsenal's ambitions simultaneously, but ultimately gave up a 1-0 lead to pick up their 11th Premier League defeat of the campaign.

Impressively, it was the youngsters like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall who put in the best performances for the Lilywhites, while the senior players were painfully ineffective or practically anonymous.

Even goalscorer Son Heung-min was disappointing for the majority of the game, so recent reports linking the club with a potential replacement this month shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Tottenham chase Son successor

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Tottenham are one of several high-profile clubs interested in signing Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho this month, whose sale is not off the table.

In fact, the report has revealed that the Lilywhites have 'set their sights' on the winger, have made a 'concrete enquiry' about his availability and may now be prepared to test the Red Devils' resolve with a bid in the region of €70m, which is about £59m.

However, fans shouldn't get too carried away just yet, as the report has also named European giants Napoli and Atlético Madrid as some of the interested parties.

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Garnacho's current ability and the potential many believe him to possess, it's one worth pursuing, especially as Son cannot be relied upon long-term.

How Garnacho compares to Son

Now, the first thing to say is that over the last decade or so, there have been few players as consistently brilliant as Son in the Premier League, and when he does finally hang up his boots or move on, he'll be rightly remembered as a legend of the league.

With that said, time catches up with us all, and with him set to turn 33 in the summer, the club need to find a long-term replacement and fast, as even though he can still chip in with a goal here and there, most fans will attest to the fact that he's having less and less impact in games with every passing campaign.

So, with that in mind, how does he stack up against the young Garnacho? From a pure output perspective, it's a very closely fought affair.

For example, in 26 appearances totalling 1825 minutes this season, the Spurs captain has scored eight goals and provided seven assists for Postecoglou, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.73 games, or every 121.66 minutes.

In contrast, the young Argentine has scored as many goals but provided five assists in 30 appearances, totalling 1641 minutes, so he's averaging a goal involvement every 2.30 games, or every 126.23 minutes.

So, with there being little to separate the pair with their output, how do they stack up against one another when we take a look under the hood at their underlying numbers?

Interestingly, while the South Korean international comes out ahead in a number of metrics, such as progressive passes, shot and goal-creating actions, passing accuracy and key passes per 90, he comes out second-best overall.

For example, the "dangerous" United gem, as dubbed by Paul Scholes, does better in a multitude of offensive metrics such as non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive carries, shots and shots on target and carries into the penalty area per 90, but also does significantly better for the defensive ones as well.

Not only does he make and win more tackles, but he wins more aerial duels, completes more ball recoveries and makes more interceptions and blocks, also all per 90.

What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he's so young and has years to go until he reaches his peak, which for a wide attacker is about 26, according to research carried out by The Athletic in 2021.

Ultimately, Son is a bonafide legend, but he is nearing the end of his top-flight career, and Spurs need to find a dynamic and potentially game-changing replacement, which by all accounts may well be Garnacho.
