Their very own Saka: Spurs want to sign "one of the best players in the PL"

It would be fair to say that this season has been tough for Tottenham Hotspur.

The club may still be in three cup competitions at present, but their form in the Premier League has been diabolical, with Wednesday night's defeat to Arsenal being their 11th of the campaign.

What's worse is that Ange Postecoglou's usually ultra-positive side didn't even offer much in attack and looked bereft of ideas for much of the encounter.

Fortunately, recent reports have linked the club with an incredibly exciting Premier League star who could be their answer to the Gunners' Bukayo Saka.

Spurs chase Premier League star

According to a recent report from French outlet RMC Sports, Tottenham are one of several clubs interested in Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has claimed that the Gunners and Manchester United are also incredibly keen on landing the inform winger this month.

However, the story has also revealed that, due to the Bees' position in the league and successful campaign thus far, it would take a 'big cheque' to tempt them into selling, with reports from earlier this month claiming an offer in the region of £50m might do.

It would be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Mbeumo's immense ability, it's one worth fighting for, especially as there are some apparent similarities between him and Saka.

How Mbeumo could be Spurs' Saka

Now, Spurs fans might not like Saka for understandable partisan reasons, but there is no denying that the Arsenal man is one of the best wingers in world football, let alone the Premier League, as before suffering his hamstring injury, he had racked up a haul of nine goals and 13 assists in just 24 games this season.

So, the fact that Mbeumo shares some similarities with him can only be a good thing, and the first similarity is his productivity.

For example, in just 25 appearances this season, the former Troyes star, whom pundit Dan Bardell recently dubbed "one of the best players in the Premier League," has found the back of the net on 13 occasions and provided four assists for good measure, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.47 games.

On top of this ability to change games with a goal or assist, the Cameroonian international shares some physical traits with the Hale Ender.

For example, while the Englishman is three inches taller than the 5 foot 7 Bees star, they are both unassumingly strong and share a low centre of gravity, which helps them manoeuvre with the ball and send opposition full-backs the wrong way when out on the wing.

Moreover, both are left-footed right-wingers, which facilitates their nature to cut in and fire off a shot from just outside the box or from inside when they time their runs just right.

Finally, both players have become the focal points of the respective teams, with the Arsenal ace taking up the mantle in light of a weaker left-side and lack of clinical strikers, while Mbeumo stepped up in the absence of Ivan Toney last season and hasn't relinquished that spotlight since.

Ultimately, it might cost an arm and a leg to get down this month, but if Spurs want to instantly improve Ange's attacking options, then they have to sign the Brentford star, as he's got all the ingredients to explode at a top six side, and maybe even become their answer to Saka.

Dream Son replacement: Spurs now exploring move to sign big-money PL star

Last night was one to forget for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou's side had a chance to turn their season around and put a massive dent in Arsenal's ambitions simultaneously, but ultimately gave up a 1-0 lead to pick up their 11th Premier League defeat of the campaign.

Impressively, it was the youngsters like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall who put in the best performances for the Lilywhites, while the senior players were painfully ineffective or practically anonymous.

Even goalscorer Son Heung-min was disappointing for the majority of the game, so recent reports linking the club with a potential replacement this month shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Tottenham chase Son successor

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Tottenham are one of several high-profile clubs interested in signing Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho this month, whose sale is not off the table.

In fact, the report has revealed that the Lilywhites have 'set their sights' on the winger, have made a 'concrete enquiry' about his availability and may now be prepared to test the Red Devils' resolve with a bid in the region of €70m, which is about £59m.

However, fans shouldn't get too carried away just yet, as the report has also named European giants Napoli and Atlético Madrid as some of the interested parties.

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Garnacho's current ability and the potential many believe him to possess, it's one worth pursuing, especially as Son cannot be relied upon long-term.

How Garnacho compares to Son

Now, the first thing to say is that over the last decade or so, there have been few players as consistently brilliant as Son in the Premier League, and when he does finally hang up his boots or move on, he'll be rightly remembered as a legend of the league.

With that said, time catches up with us all, and with him set to turn 33 in the summer, the club need to find a long-term replacement and fast, as even though he can still chip in with a goal here and there, most fans will attest to the fact that he's having less and less impact in games with every passing campaign.

So, with that in mind, how does he stack up against the young Garnacho? From a pure output perspective, it's a very closely fought affair.

For example, in 26 appearances totalling 1825 minutes this season, the Spurs captain has scored eight goals and provided seven assists for Postecoglou, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.73 games, or every 121.66 minutes.

In contrast, the young Argentine has scored as many goals but provided five assists in 30 appearances, totalling 1641 minutes, so he's averaging a goal involvement every 2.30 games, or every 126.23 minutes.

So, with there being little to separate the pair with their output, how do they stack up against one another when we take a look under the hood at their underlying numbers?

Interestingly, while the South Korean international comes out ahead in a number of metrics, such as progressive passes, shot and goal-creating actions, passing accuracy and key passes per 90, he comes out second-best overall.

For example, the "dangerous" United gem, as dubbed by Paul Scholes, does better in a multitude of offensive metrics such as non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive carries, shots and shots on target and carries into the penalty area per 90, but also does significantly better for the defensive ones as well.

Not only does he make and win more tackles, but he wins more aerial duels, completes more ball recoveries and makes more interceptions and blocks, also all per 90.

What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he's so young and has years to go until he reaches his peak, which for a wide attacker is about 26, according to research carried out by The Athletic in 2021.

Ultimately, Son is a bonafide legend, but he is nearing the end of his top-flight career, and Spurs need to find a dynamic and potentially game-changing replacement, which by all accounts may well be Garnacho.

Tottenham now make offer to sign "extraordinary" Spanish forward this month

Tottenham have now identified a new target to bolster their attacking ranks this winter as they look to move up the Premier League in the second half of the campaign, according to a fresh report.

Tottenham's horror record at Arsenal continues

Ange Postecoglou's side fell to their 11th loss of the season as they were beaten 2-1 by north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. Managing just two shots on target, the result leaves the Lilywhites stranded in midtable after extending their horrific form away at Arsenal to just one win in 31 league visits.

European football for next season already seems a longshot, with 10 points separating them from 8th placed Bournemouth, but it is clear that Spurs are moving in the transfer market to try and improve their season in the second half of the campaign.

They have already signed Antonin Kinsky to replace Fraser Forster, while they are also keen to add another forward to their ranks and have been linked with a move to sign Marcus Rashford, who is out of favour at Manchester United.

However, such a move seems unlikely given his mammoth wages at Old Trafford, while a move abroad is currently seen as more likely for the England international. As a result, Spurs have been forced to look elsewhere, and now a report in Spain has claimed that they are looking to poach a forward from Barcelona.

Tottenham table offer for "extraordinary" forward

That is according to Sport, who report that Tottenham have tabled an offer to take Ansu Fati on loan for the remainder of the season as they look to find more attacking options for Postecoglou. The forward spent last season on loan at Brighton and failed to catch the eye, having seen his career blighted with injuries since he burst onto the scene with Barcelona as a teenager.

So far this campaign, he has featured just four times for Hansi Flick's side in La Liga, starting only once, and it has been made clear to him that he is free to leave before the window shuts on February 3rd.

However, he is undoubtedly talented, inheriting Lionel Messi's shirt at Camp Nou and singled out for praise by former boss Xavi, who dubbed him an "extraordinary" talent after working with him.

Currently taking home a mammoth £226,000 a week at Camp Nou, the report claims that Barcelona are willing to let him leave on loan for no fee provided a club covers that salary, meaning that Tottenham will have to shell out around £6m to bring him to north London for the second half of the season.

And that has piqued their interest, it is revealed, with both Spurs and West Ham having lodged bids to bring him back to England, with Spurs having been kicked into action by their defeat in the north London derby.

There is also believed to be an offer on the table from Turkish side Besiktas, but Fati is keen to avoid moving to Turkey and as a result a move to the Premier League seems the most likely outcome. Would he be a good addition for Spurs and Postecoglou's style of play, even just in the short term?

Tottenham Hotspur have made a serious approach over signing an ambitious new forward target, as manager Ange Postecoglou attempts to reinforce his attack with real quality during the business end of January.

Spurs lose Randal Kolo Muani transfer race with new options identified

Postecoglou's side were involved in a high-profile transfer race for the signature of PSG outcast Randal Kolo Muani, but the France international has made his preference crystal clear.

Tottenham attempted to sway Kolo Muani until the dying seconds, as reported by reliable media sources like Fabrice Hawkins, but Juventus proved a more tempting option for the 26-year-old - who's put pen to paper on a loan move to Serie A with no buy option.

Spurs were in discussions with PSG on Monday over Kolo Muani. However, their efforts fell short, as Juve eventually beat both the north Londoners and Man United in pursuit of the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt star.

Attention now turns to whom technical director Johan Lange, chairman Daniel Levy and the club's recruitment team could identify as an alternative to the versatile forward, and there are a few credible options.

RMC Sport's Hawkins reports that Tottenham could advance on a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo before deadline day, even if Thomas Frank has attempted to pour cold water over the possibility of his exit this winter.

In the face of an irresistible January offer, especially considering Mbeumo's contract expires in 18 months, you could make a case that Frank could be overruled by Brentford officials when it comes to letting the Cameroonian star depart - so this could still be one to watch.

In the event a deal for Mbeumo proves impossible, another Premier League star facing an uncertain future is Man United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The 20-year-old Red Devils sensation is believed to be attracting serious interest from Serie A as a top target for Antonio Conte, with reports in Italy claiming Napoli have offered Garnacho a contract to join them.

Tottenham prepared to make £60m bid for Alejandro Garnacho

While Conte's side appear seriously keen, he has admirers closer to home as well, and Spurs are believed to be well in the mix for his signature.

According to Football Transfers, Tottenham have made a "concrete" enquiry over a deal for Garnacho, and they're prepared to test United's resolve with a £60 million bid for the forward's services.

The outlet adds that this could even be enough to tempt Ruben Amorim's side into selling. Due to rumoured PSR concerns, United are apparently prioritising "pure profit" sales, opening the door for interested sides to hold talks over Garnacho.

A big Solanke upgrade: Spurs offered one of the best forwards in the world

This season has been a rather brutal one for Tottenham Hotspur.

Yes, Ange Postecoglou's side are still in three cup competitions, but following last night's defeat in the North London derby, the Lilywhites find themselves down in 13th place in the Premier League, with a whopping 11 defeats from 21 games.

There were poor performances across the board from the Australian's side, and while summer signing Dominic Solanke was undoubtedly trying his best to make something happen for the team, he was comfortably dealt with by the hosts.

The former Bournemouth star has been one of the few bright spots in Spurs' campaign thus far, but his place in the team could soon be under threat, as recent reports have linked the club with another free-scoring number nine who may well be an upgrade.

Tottenham target sublime striker

According to a recent report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham will continue to target the French market this window, despite missing out on Randal Kolo Muani, and have already been offered the chance to sign LOSC Lille star Jonathan David.

The report claims that the Canadian's agent has offered the forward out to clubs in recent times, including the Lilywhites, which could be an offer too tempting to pass up on.

A potential price is not mentioned in the story, but considering his contract is set to expire this summer, and he is therefore free to sign a deal with foreign clubs this month, we wouldn't be surprised if he was available for even less than the £20m that was reported last summer.

Daniel Levy and Co might prefer to sign David for free in the summer, but given his sensational form over the last few years and the club's need for attacking reinforcements now, it would undoubtedly be worth splashing the cash to bring him in this month, even if his arrival could spell trouble for Solanke.

How David compares to Solanke

So, if Spurs are proactive this month and opt to bring David to the club, it would likely be with the promise of regular football, should his performances warrant it, meaning he would be in direct competition with Solanke for a starting berth up top, but who's the better striker?

Well, when it comes to their pure output this season, it's a comprehensive victory for the Lille ace, who, in just 29 appearances, has found the back of the net on 17 occasions and provided six assists for good measure, meaning he's currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.26 games.

In contrast, the former Cherries star has scored 11 goals and provided six assists in as many games, which equates to a still brilliant but nonetheless worse average of a goal involvement every 1.70 games.

It's not just this season that the New York-born phenom has been the more prolific number nine either.

Indeed, last season he racked up a simply sensational haul of 26 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.34 games, and lends credence to podcast host and Canadian football expert Tony Marinaro's claim that he's "one of the best strikers in the world" and Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig's description that he is a "mind-blowing" forward.

In comparison, the former Chelsea ace also had a great season on the south coast, but his tally of 21 goals and four assists in 42 games still comes out to a slightly less impressive average of a goal involvement every 1.68 games.

Finally, while the Lilywhites' starting striker has the experience of playing in England, the Lille poacher has the experience of playing in the Champions League, racking up a tally of seven goals and one assist in 14 appearances in Europe's top competition.

Ultimately, Spurs have a talented striker in Solanke, but based on the last few years, it's apparent that David is the more accomplished goalscorer, and if the club have a chance to sign him this month, they have to take it.

Tottenham set sights on £50m Premier League forward after Kolo Muani blow

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a Premier League forward after losing out on a deal for Randal Kolo Muani, with their former top January transfer target on the way to Juventus instead.

Spurs suffer North London Derby defeat as Kolo Muani joins Juventus

It's been a bad few days for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who suffered defeat in the North London Derby against Arsenal on Wednesday evening and lost the race to sign Kolo Muani on loan from PSG.

Son Heung-min gave the Lilywhites an early lead at the Emirates Stadium, briefly sparking hope of a sensational win on enemy turf, but two quick-fire goals just before half-time meant that Tottenham were instead handed their eleventh defeat of the Premier League campaign.

It was also Postecoglou's fourth loss from their last five top flight encounters, highlighting the severe depletion of Tottenham's first-team squad right now and just how imperative this January transfer window is to help resurrect their season.

Unfortunately for Spurs, despite trying to tempt Kolo Muani with a move to N17 "until the last moment" (Fabrice Hawkins), the Frenchman opted to swap the Parc des Princes for Turin - putting pen to paper on a loan move to Juventus.

Kolo Muani was seen by Spurs as one of the best attackers available, and their "top" target (David Ornstein), so falling short in their pursuit of the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt star will be a sore one to take for Postecoglou and co, as they now re-enter the market for new forward options.

Tottenham made contact with PSG over Kolo Muani as recently as Monday, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide. In terms of the options they're considering, one of them is believed to be in-form Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

Tottenham set sights on Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo

According to reliable French transfer correspondent Fabrice Hawkins, writing for RMC Sport, Tottenham are looking at signing Mbeumo and could advance on a move for the Cameroonian towards the end of this window.

They face stiff competition from other elite Premier League sides, including Man United, but the 25-year-old could be worth a potential chase given he's already bagged 13 goals in total this season and is out of contract in 18 months.

Mbeumo's contract situation won't mean Brentford will be pushovers when it comes to his price tag, though, and other reports state they could demand as much as £50 million to let him leave before February 3.

PSG now preparing £42m offer to sign "great" Tottenham ace in priority deal

As Tottenham Hotspur continue to consider reinforcements of their own in the January transfer window, they could be in danger of losing one of Ange Postecoglou's defenders this month.

Tottenham transfer news

The Lilywhites have once again endured a campaign full of inconsistency and remain one of the toughest sides to predict in the Premier League, which arguably stretches to their work away from the action too. On the transfer front, it looked as though they were closing in on the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain only for Juventus to since reportedly swoop in.

Whether those in North London look to reinforce their attacking options through other candidates after missing out on the Frenchman remains to be seen. What's more, before any incomings can arrive, they may need to worry about potential departures.

According to reports in Spain, PSG are now preparing an offer worth €50m (£42m) to sign Radu Dragusin from Tottenham and see the central defender as a priority target. The Lilywhites, however, do not want to sell their centre-back, who has become a regular starter due to their injury crisis in defence.

It comes as no surprise that Spurs are set to remain firm amid such interest either. At times this season, Dragusin has been the only recognised centre-back for Postecoglou to turn to following injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

To lose Dragusin at this stage would be an undeniable disaster for those in North London, even if PSG's planned offer is tempting on the economic side of things during the January transfer window.

"Great" Dragusin is crucial for Tottenham

When Van de Ven and Romero return, Dragusin's role may be that of a rotational centre-back. As things stand, however, he's the most important member of Postecoglou's backline. Meanwhile, even as a rotational player, the 22-year-old remains a solid option to add crucial depth to the Australian's strongest squad in North London.

The former Celtic manager was full of praise for Dragusin when speaking to reporters last week, saying as relayed by Spurs Web: “I’ve said all along that some of our players are getting unfairly judged because of the situation we’re in.

“He’s only 22 and it would be fine if he was playing with older players around him but he’s playing with an 18-year-old who isn’t a centre-back and he’s had three different goalkeepers.

“He was great the other night, really focused and with his organisation. With Toni, that’s probably the most organised we’ve been in a while and the midfield did really well to protect them."

With some fightback on their hands to qualify for European football in the second-half of the campaign, Dragusin should more than play his part for Tottenham as the fixtures come thick and fast on all fronts.

Worse than Kinsky: 4/10 Spurs star had a "nightmare" vs Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur went into last night's North London derby with a chance to put the final nail in a deflated Arsenal's Premier League title ambitions but gave them a much-needed boost instead.

Ange Postecoglou's side managed to withstand an early barrage and actually took the lead 25 minutes in, but just 19 minutes after that, they found themselves 2-1 down.

The second half saw the Lilywhites push for an equaliser, but they looked just as likely to concede a third, and the defeat means they have picked up just five points from the last 27 available.

Now, there were some starters who put in a real shift for Ange Postecoglou and the fans, like Lucas Bergvall, Son Heung-min and Djed Spence, but there were more than a few players who let the side down, including Antonín Kinský.

Kinský's performance vs Arsenal

Kinský made his debut for Spurs in the League Cup against Liverpool last week and looked utterly brilliant, both with the ball at his feet and stopping shots, and then looked reasonably assured against Tamworth in the FA Cup over the weekend.

However, last night was another level of pressure, and while we cannot write him off based on one game, it would be fair to say that he did not cope with it.

There were countless times in which he took too long on the ball - which almost resulted in Kai Havertz scoring in the first 20 minutes - played the wrong pass to one of his teammates or took a bad touch and put the backline under unnecessary pressure, which is what you don't want in a heated derby.

Then, to top it all off, he failed to stop Leandro Trossard from scoring the winner despite being positioned well to do so, which ultimately cost his side the match.

This might all sound rather harsh, but it's an opinion shared by respected Spurs' writer Alasdair Gold, who gave the Czech ace a 5/10 match rating at full-time, writing that he'd be 'disappointed' with the Belgian's goal.

However, while the young shot-stopper had a night to forget, Pedro Porro was even worse.

Porro's performance vs Arsenal

Although he is vastly more experienced than Kinský, Porro was arguably even worse against Arsenal.

The former Sporting CP star was utterly ineffective in defence, as he was seemingly constantly out of position, so much so that Ally McCoist had to ask "Where's Pedro Porro" on commentary, and then in one of the more striking moments of the game, he was sent tumbling to the floor by Trossard.

It truly was the "nightmare" display Spurs content creator Seb Martin said it was, and unfortunately for Postecoglou, the Spanish full-back was just as anonymous at the other end of the pitch, failing to play any dangerous passes or make any probing run to try and disrupt the immovable Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Again, it might all sound rather harsh, but Gold had a similar opinion on the night, awarding the 25-year-old just a 4/10 and writing that he was 'caught up the pitch for the second goal' and 'didn't offer much else before hitting the outside of the post in the 94th minute.'

His statistics more than back up this appraisal, as in 95 minutes of football, the Don Bentio-born star produced a combined expected goal and assists figure of just 0.09, was dribbled past once, lost three of five duels, lost the ball 15 times, committed two fouls, had a passing accuracy of just 78%, misplaced five of six crosses and four of seven long balls.

Ultimately, it was a night to forget for much of the Spurs team, but both Kinský and Porro were worryingly poor.

Postecoglou really wants Tottenham to sign "versatile" £13m international

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is personally eager for the club to move for a "versatile" player who's impressed club scouts, as the Lilywhites continue pursuing their second January signing after missing out on Randal Kolo Muani.

Juventus win race for Kolo Muani as Tottenham miss out

Over the last week and beyond, Spurs and Juventus were reliably believed to be tussling for Kolo Muani's signature - but a winner of the race has now been confirmed by reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

On Tuesday evening, Romano dropped his famous "here we go" as Juve pipped Spurs in the battle for Kolo Muani's signature - dealing bad news for Postecoglou, technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy, as they are forced to return to the drawing board.

The 26-year-old PSG outcast was deemed by Spurs one of the best attackers available for hire on the January market (David Ornstein), so this news will come as a real blow for the club as they also prepare for a tense North London Derby against Arsenal this evening.

Following their snubbed advances to sign Kolo Muani, Postecoglou's side remain in the market for a new forward, and the Australian has pleaded for his side to bring in some "help" for striker Dominic Solanke.

"If we can get him some help, yeah. Dom has just been outstanding in the way he’s carried the frontline for us during this period," said Postecoglou on support for Solanke.

"With Dom being a new player, it probably would have been easier for him to slip in and do his job but he’s taken on the responsibility of helping the whole team. He’s been great for us. I really feel there is more to him and his game. We’ll be able to get more out of him if we can him some help."

As well as another attacking option, reports suggest they're in the market for another midfielder. Tottenham are targeting Inter Milan's Davide Frattesi as one option for that role, while it is believed Palmeiras star Richard Rios is on their agenda as well.

Ange Postecoglou really wants Richard Rios at Tottenham

As per CaughtOffside, sharing an update on their links to the Colombia international, Postecoglou is personally "very keen" for Tottenham to sign Rios.

This follows reports that Spurs had an official bid rejected for Rios very recently, and while it is unclear how much they offered, he could actually be snapped up for much cheaper than his £84 million release clause.

The 24-year-old signed a new contract in October 2024, including the seismic clause, but reports in South America claimed soon afterward that Palmeiras won't sell for any less than £13 million (Hoy Diario del Magdalena via Sport Witness).

Rios is said to have really impressed N17 scouts as well. However, Spurs face stiff competition from Everton and Nottingham Forest, who are pushing hard to land the South American.

He's miles better than Kolo Muani: Spurs chasing move for £20m sensation

We are pretty much halfway through silly season now, and as things stand, the only addition Tottenham Hotspur have made to their injury-riddled squad is that of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Now, the former Slavia Prague shot-stopper has seriously impressed thus far, but given the hole in the Lilywhites' squad, he simply cannot be the only signing Daniel Levy and Co make this month.

There were strong links to Paris Saint-Germain's exciting forward Randal Kolo Muani over the last week or so, but he now looks set to join Serie A giants Juventus on a short-term loan.

Fortunately, it appears as if the club are not letting this setback stop them from looking for another attacker, as recent reports have linked them to another exciting forward from Ligue 1, a forward who looks like he could be miles better than the Frenchman.

Tottenham chase free-scoring forward

According to a recent report from Daily Mail journalist Matt Barlow, Tottenham are one of several sides interested in signing OGC Nice star Evann Guessand.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has revealed that fellow Premier League teams West Ham United and Bournemouth are keen to bring the Ivorian international to England this month.

The good news for Levy and Co is that it shouldn't cost them too much to sign the 23-year-old ace this month, with the report revealing that offers in excess of £20m should be enough to tempt the French side to come to the table.

He might not be a household name in England, but based on his form this season, signing Guessand for £20m could be a brilliant deal, especially as he's been far more impressive than Kolo Muani.

How Guessand compares to Kolo Muani

So, with Kolo Muani now almost certainly off the table as an option for Spurs this month, would signing Guessand instead be a wise option? How does he stack up to his fellow Ligue 1 attacker?

Well, despite having a much lower profile in world football, the Nice star actually comes out way ahead of his older counterpart when we compare their pure output from this season, which for strikers is what matters more than anything.

For example, in 25 appearances, totalling 1937 minutes, the "very interesting" Nice star, as analyst Ben Mattinson described him, has scored nine goals and provided five assists, equating to a goal involvement on average every 1.78 games, or every 138.35 minutes.

In contrast, the PSG ace has scored two goals and provided one assist in 14 appearances this season, totalling 453 minutes, which works out to an average of a goal involvement every 4.66 games, or every 151 minutes.

Moreover, while it is a little closer when we compare their underlying numbers from this season, the 23-year-old Ivorian still emerges victorious in the majority of relevant metrics.

For example, he produces more actual non-penalty goals plus assists, scores more goals per shot and shot on target, completes more progressive passes and carries, has a better passing accuracy, produces more shot-creating actions and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, Spurs fans might be understandably upset over missing out on the talented Kolo Muani this week, but from a pure output and underlying metric perspective, Guessand looks to be the far superior player.

Therefore, Levy and Co should be doing all they can to ensure they get this deal done ahead of the chasing pack.
