Heung-Min Son has been one of the best signings in Tottenham Hotspur’s modern history, exceeding all expectations following his £22m move from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015.

The South Korean attacker has cemented himself as a club legend, scoring 162 goals for the Lilywhites in his 408 appearances in all competitions.

He formed an excellent partnership with Harry Kane during the Englishman’s time in North London, with the pair combining for more goals than any other duo in Premier League history - assisting each other 47 times.

After Kane’s move to Bayern Munich last summer, it left Son with the task of operating as a central striker, compared to his usual left-wing role which has seen him thrive over the years.

However, the potential addition of one talent this summer could allow him to slot back into his favoured position, whilst also forming a new formidable partnership to catapult Spurs up the Premier League table in 2024/25.

Tottenham want £86m superstar this summer

According to Football Insider, Tottenham made a move by registering their interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, but face competition from multiple other English clubs this summer.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also credited with an interest, whilst local rivals Arsenal are claimed to have made the Swedish forward their number one target during this transfer window.

All the interest is hardly a surprise given his goalscoring record, with the 26-year-old registering a staggering 29 goals and ten assists in his 33 matches in Liga Portugal last season - making him the division’s top scorer by eight goals.

Everyone knows a goalscorer is worth their weight in gold in today’s market, with Sporting setting a £86m price tag to prise him away from the Portuguese club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Whilst he would be a very expensive addition for Ange Postecoglou’s side, he would add that cutting edge his side are lacking, with the Swede able to benefit from Son’s incredible ability in the final third.

Why Son would be perfect for Gyokeres at Tottenham

There have been huge changes at the club since Son’s move to North London, including a new stadium, various managers, and a huge turnover of players as the club look to push for a consistent place in the Premier League’s top four.

Last season was one of his most impressive campaigns at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, scoring 17 and registering 10 assists, a tally of 12 more than any other Spurs player last season.

However, his stats per 90 would fall perfectly into the hands of Gyokeres, with his goals undoubtedly helping Postecoglou’s side increase their chances of securing a Champions League spot.

The South Korean averaged 0.3 assists per 90 last season - ranking him within the top 6% of all attackers in Europe - a figure that would allow the “incredible” Gyokeres, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, to replicate his excellent goalscoring figures in England’s top flight.

Son has also averaged 4.3 progressive passes and 3.7 progressive carries - with two of the latter per 90 seeing him take the ball into the opposition’s penalty area, allowing him to create frequent opportunities for the 26-year-old Swede.

A carry is considered progressive if the ball is moved towards the opponent's goal at least 10 yards from its starting point or is carried into the penalty area.

Both players have demonstrated their ability to score goals and contribute with assists for their teammates in recent seasons, with the pair potentially excelling together should the Sporting Lisbon forward move to Spurs this summer.

He could provide the added goal threat that Postecoglou has been searching for, whilst also creating a partnership similar to that of Son and Kane, which could provide to be vital in the club’s hunt for a return to Champions League football.

Chelsea now interested in signing "fantastic" record-breaking Tottenham gem

Amid another summer full of arrivals, Chelsea now reportedly want to deal London rivals Tottenham Hotspur a blow by signing their young star who seems destined for the top.

Chelsea transfer news

As ever, it's been a busy transfer window at Stamford Bridge and one that is only set to get busier with the reported arrivals of Aaron Anselmino and Filip Jorgensen.

The duo are both reportedly set to undergo medicals before completing moves to the London club, which will see Anselmino return to complete his season with Boca Juniors and Jorgensen instantly stake a claim for Chelsea's number one shirt.

Even after Anselmino and Jorgensen, however, the Blues' business may not be done for the summer. Those at Stamford Bridge could yet deal London rivals Spurs the ultimate blow by landing a future star for Enzo Maresca before he signs his first professional contract.

According to The Sunday Mirror via The Boot Room, Chelsea are now interested in signing Mikey Moore, who has impressed for Spurs in pre-season. The winger can't sign a professional contract until his 17th birthday on August 11, leaving his future open for Chelsea to swoop in. That said, the Lilywhites reportedly expect their academy graduate to put pen to paper on his first senior contract.

There's no doubt about Moore's ability and his arrival would certainly follow the trend of young stars making their way to Stamford Bridge. But, for now, he could remain loyal to those at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead of completing what would be an incredibly controversial move across London this summer.

"Fantastic" Moore is one for the future

Since becoming the youngest player to feature in the Premier League for Spurs last season, the only way has been up for Moore. The 16-year-old has thrived in pre-season, even scoring the winning goal against Vissel Kobe to secure the J.League World Challenge title to hand Spurs a boost in the form of pre-season silverware.

You can see why Chelsea are interested, with the winger recently earning the praise of Ange Postecoglou as a result of his form. The Australian said via Football London: "Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment - he did at the end of last year.

"He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training. He’s been good in all the games - he probably should have had three tonight, to be fair - but he did take his goal well by being in the right areas."

Tottenham now register interest to sign "elite" £80m+ star ahead of Arsenal

Whilst Tottenham Hotspur have focused on future stars so far this summer, they have reportedly registered their interest in signing a player who would instantly steal the headlines in the Premier League.

Tottenham transfer news

The Lilywhites have endured a subdued summer window, but one that could pay dividends in years to come after welcoming both Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, those in north London are set to sign young South Korean winger Min-hyuk Yang, with the 18-year-old set to undergo a medical before re-joining Gangwon on loan until January.

Having failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, however, it wouldn't be absurd to suggest that Spurs need more than just future stars this summer, and Daniel Levy seems to be well aware of that.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have now made contact by registering their interest in signing Viktor Gyokeres this summer, alongside Liverpool. Both Spurs and Liverpool have entered the race, aiming to beat Arsenal to the forward, with the Gunners having a long-term interest.

Having only officially splashed out on two incomings so far in the current window, Spurs could be looking to focus their funds on triggering the Sporting CP forwards' reported £86m release clause for Ange Postecoglou.

In what could be one of the deals of the summer, Spurs would finally have their replacement for Harry Kane a year on from his exit to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Without an out-and-out goalscorer, the responsibility has fallen the way of Heung-min Son, who has done an admirable job but is, ultimately, at his best when he has a star striker to combine with.

"Elite" Gyokeres can replace Kane

Highlighted by Spurs' lack of movement on the striker front in the last year, replacing Kane is far from an easy task. The England captain is one of the best goalscorers that the Premier League has ever seen, but as Gyokeres proved last season, he should be the man that the Lilywhites finally turn to this summer. Whilst, at £86m, the deal would hardly come cheap, it is one that could take Spurs back into the Champions League.

With 29 goals from an expected 22.5, Gyokeres couldn't have been much more clinical last season. Simply put, give the striker a chance in front of goal, and the next image is more than likely to be him wheeling away in celebration. Crucially for Son too, the Spurs captain could get the chance to form a Kane-like partnership with the Swede if Spurs make their move.

Looking to seal their latest arrival, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly booked a medical to sign another future star for Ange Postecoglou and his side.

Tottenham transfer news

It's been a summer focused on future stars in north London, with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall arriving. Both 18-year-old midfielders, the Lilywhites may have installed the heart of Postecoglou's side for years to come. Following an impressive campaign in the Championship with Leeds United, Gray is a particular standout. Following a big-money move, the versatile teenager could make a telling impact at Spurs in the forthcoming season.

After making his first two appearances against Hearts and Queens Park Rangers in pre-season, Gray told Spurs' official website: "It's about getting used to the simple things that my teammates like on the pitch, off the pitch, ultimately, trying to get to know them.

"They’re all brilliant and have helped me so much, especially Pedro at Hearts, I’ve not played centre-back before and he was really helpful for me. Everyone in training as well, not just when we’re playing these pre-season games, on the training pitch every day, everyone is trying to help me, and I really appreciate that. They’ve been brilliant so far."

He may not have to wait long for another new teammate, either. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now booked a medical to complete the signing of Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC. The South Korean winger will reportedly become a Spurs player before re-joining Gangwon on loan until January, when he will finally join up with Postecoglou's side full-time.

Just 18 years old, Yang follows the trend of potential future stars walking through the door in north London so far this summer, joining both Gray and Bergvall.

Yang is an "immense talent"

A player who can play on the left and right wing, Yang may well be the heir to Son Heung-min's place in years to come. The Lilywhites' star man is now 32 years old and is likely to be past his best within the next couple of seasons, handing those in north London with a problem that Yang could yet solve.

Spurs hit gold with "freak" signing who's worth way more than Chiesa

Daniel Levy's shrewd nature at Tottenham Hotspur has served him well throughout his tenure as the north London club's chairman.

Spurs have achieved comparative success over the past 15 years, rising to a sustained position in the Champions League and consistently threatening to secure silverware without actually lifting a trophy.

That next step is crucial, and under Ange Postecoglou, there's a tentative sense of optimism that that goal could be realised, with purposeful signings being made in the transfer market.

Patchy form prevented Tottenham from recording a top-four Premier League finish last term but there was patent underlying progress that is now being reinforced with some exciting summer deals. Archie Gray has already signed from Leeds United for £30m and now focus is being turned to the frontline.

Latest on Spurs' pursuit of Chiesa

According to Football Transfers, Tottenham have the lead in the race to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, with a strong relationship with Juventus swaying the odds as Arsenal and Liverpool also register an interest.

The Italian club need to sell and view Chiesa, who can play across the frontline, as a necessary sacrifice with just one year remaining on his current contract. It's believed that the Old Lady are fielding bids of €30m (£25m), which would be a bargain if the 25-year-old's fitness holds up.

Tottenham are fast improving and nurturing an impressive crop, and it's a testament to the work being done down N17 that there's one Lilywhite whose value eclipses that of Chiesa, just one year after his signing.

Micky van de Ven's market value in 2024

We're talking about the one and only Micky van de Ven, who was purchased from the German Bundesliga's VFL Wolfsburg in a £43m deal last summer as Postecoglou shored up his backline.

Endowed with supreme athleticism and a formidable physique, the Netherlands star shone as he utilised his pace and power to forge a steely bond with Cristian Romero in Spurs' backline, with James Maddison stating such qualities were "frightening".

As per FBref, he actually ranked among the top 10% of centre-backs in the Premier League last season for goals, the top 16% for ball recoveries, the top 2% for pass completion and the top 5% for successful take-ons per 90.

A truly astounding talent, even described as an "utter freak" by podcast host Michael Caley, Van de Ven's £43m arrival raised a few eyebrows initially; Liverpool are believed to have withdrawn from the race due to concerns about Wolfsburg's proposed price tag.

Might that opinion differ now? Probably. CIES Football Observatory - a research organisation located in Switzerland - have concluded their appraisal of the dynamic defender and marked him with a £65m market value, already £22m higher than Spurs' initial outlay.

It's a significant rise and one that is projected to continue over the coming years. Chiesa, a high-level talent in his own right, is available for £25m in what is £40m off Van de Ven.

Tottenham have a lot to do to reach the desired platform but the signs thus far are promising, and with players such as Van de Ven in the side, lofty ambitions might just be realised down the line.

Son upgrade: Spurs closing on "one of the best strikers in the world"

Tottenham Hotspur have played with confidence during this summer's pre-season preparations, having scored comfortable victories over Hearts of Midlothian and Queens Park Rangers in the past fortnight.

Ange Postecoglou was recorded giving a rousing speech to his team at half-time: "We wear the Tottenham shirts, we play the Tottenham way", receiving cheer from his players as the togetherness and belief simmers.

While there's a long road ahead for an outfit desperate to end an interminable wait for silverware, return to the Champions League, cement a position as one of Europe's elite, it's clear that the Australian manager is placing the framework for such success.

With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and more shipped on and the summer's transfer activity seeing Archie Gray, 18 and regarded as an elite talent, brought in from Leeds United for £30m, Postecoglou is fostering a lasting culture, having already fielded a young crop last year.

He needs to blend a degree of experience with the youthful influx; however, with Harry Kane still not directly replaced after joining Bayern Munich one year ago, Tottenham might just be circling in on their new focal frontman.

Spurs transfer news

As per Football Insider, Tottenham are closing in on signing Jonathan David, with the Canadian striker expected to leave LOSC Lille this summer.

David is entering the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 club and has thus been transfer-listed for a cut-price £20m fee, only increasing the appeal to get a deal done swiftly.

The report reveals that Spurs are locked in talks with the Ligue 1 outfit as they look to complete a swoop, and with Chelsea and West Ham United also interested, it would be good to accelerate talks quickly.

Jonathan David's 23/24 season in numbers

David has been a prominent striker in European football over the past several campaigns, prolifically notching 84 goals and 18 assists across 183 appearances for Lille, raising his level over the past few years.

His propensity for goals marks him as a cut above the lion's share of centre-forwards across the continent, with media personality Tony Marinaro even pronouncing him as "one of the best strikers in the world", such is his quality.

After all, as per FBref, David ranks among the top 16% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals scored, the top 3% for pass completion and the top 20% for progressive passes per 90. His technique and desire to contribute to the overall flow of his team suggest that he would be well suited to life in Postecoglou's Lilywhites squad.

Tottenham lack an out-and-out centre-forward. Alejo Veliz was signed from Rosario Central in Argentina for £13m one year ago but the 20-year-old featured just eight times, scoring once, before being loaned out to struggling Sevilla in Spain, enduring a bit-part role.

Heung-min Son performed up front, moonlighting as his side's central striker with regularity; Richarlison also played up top and enjoyed a brilliant purple patch at one stage.

However, neither are long-term striking solutions, and David must be signed.

Why Spurs must sign Jonathan David

Son, now 32, was excellent as the Spurs skipper last season, taking the armband from Hugo Lloris. Invariably deadly in offence, the South Korean international scored 17 goals and added ten assists across 35 Premier League fixtures.

He bagged 14 of those goals when placed as the striker, featuring 23 times in the position. One of English football's finest finishers in a long time, Son is a worthy striker, hailed as a "world-class player" by Postecoglou.

The thing is, on top of his first-class shooting skills, the £190k-per-week talent is also one of the most dynamic and creative forwards in the business, ranking among the top 7% of positional peers for assists and shot-creating actions, the top 3% for pass completion and progressive passes and the top 13% for progressive carries per 90.

In the English top flight last season, his 20 big chances created ranked him as fourth in the division for such a metric, with first-placed Liverpool sensation Mohamed Salah taking the prize with 22 big chances created.

This is all a roundabout way of redirecting Son's narrative toward his natural zone of operation: left wing. He wasn't always effective up front last season and, especially when the form got somewhat patchy throughout the later months of the campaign, looked a little isolated in his frontal role.

David would surely be the upgrade at centre-forward that Tottenham crave. His deadly striking ability marks him as a special player, though his capable, purposeful passing game would actually see him slot into the Spurs system like a dovetail joint.

Son, high-level technical superstar, could actually forge a sweet connection with the Canada international. Daniel Levy and Co will no doubt weigh up their options and determine the feasibility of the signing, but whichever way the situation is turned, a striker is needed and David would fit the bill.

In 2022, David was asked about his long-term future during an interview, and said: "I don't know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League"

The time is right; the stars look like they are aligning. Tottenham must move now and sign a striker who could lead the line for years to come.

European club considering move for "outstanding" £40k-p/w Tottenham player

After losing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille this summer, Tottenham Hotspur could be about to bid farewell to another player, with a European club now considering a move.

Tottenham transfer news

It's been a mixed summer for those in north London, who have so far welcomed just two reinforcements in the form of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. The latter particularly stands out as a solid piece of business, but given that the Leeds United academy graduate is still just 18 years old, it remains to be seen how much he can impact Ange Postecoglou's starting side. And whilst welcoming a young player, Spurs have sold an experienced midfielder in Hojbjerg.

The Dane may not be the last player to head for the exit door, either, as Daniel Levy gets ruthless this summer. According to reports in Turkey (via The Spurs Web), Galatasaray have now joined the race to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham this summer, putting themselves alongside the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Milan to sign the right-back before the window slams shut at the end of next month.

Earning a reported £40k-a-week, Royal has struggled at times in north London and the arrival of Gray hands Postecoglou the right-back cover he needs for Pedro Porro. With European clubs lining up to sign Royal, it would be a deal worth sanctioning for the Lilywhites. What's more, Galatasaray could kill two birds with one stone for Spurs given that they're also reportedly interested in signing Bryan Gil - although he seems close to a move to La Liga outfit Girona.

With the Premier League campaign approaching, Spurs have just a matter of weeks to hand Postecoglou the strongest squad possible to open his second season in charge.

Tottenham no longer need "outstanding" Royal

Considering Royal struggled for starts last term, the emergence of Gray could only make matters worse next season. As things stand, the Lilywhites simply no longer need the Brazilian, despite Postecoglou's praise last season. The Spurs boss said via Football.london: "I see it on a daily basis, others don’t, but if you watch Emerson Royal train every day, you’d think he plays every game.

"He’s just outstanding with his attitude and demeanour around the place. There’s no time for anyone to feel down. When you see a guy like Emerson, and we’ve got a few in that boat this year like Fraser [Forster] or Ben [Davies], they train so hard every day, always have the greatest disposition in terms of their demeanour, it doesn’t give anyone else an excuse to not feel up for it."

A move to the likes of Milan, Dortmund or, indeed, Galatasaray wouldn't exactly be a bad next step either, but Spurs will want to make sure that they're cashing in on their right-back even if he is surplus to requirements in north London. With a month left until the window slams shut, the Lilywhites still have plenty to do.

Deal close: Tottenham expected to sign "fantastic" £150k-p/w star for Ange

Whilst Tottenham Hotspur's transfer approach has so far been focused on welcoming young stars, they are reportedly expected to make their first experienced marquee signing of the summer in a deal worth £29m.

Tottenham transfer news

The Lilywhites have so far welcomed just two reinforcements in the form of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, who are two additions that coukd make an impact on Ange Postecoglou's side for years to come. That said, after Spurs missed out on Champions League qualification last time out, it wouldn't be absurd to suggest that they still need further reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month.

Reports suggest that those in north London are well aware of the need to strengthen Postecoglou's squad too. According to Sports Media Set in Italy, Spurs are expected to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus with a transfer worth up to €35m (£29m) "close". The Italian has reportedly been shown the door by new manager Thiago Motta and could be left attempting to rediscover his best form at Spurs in the forthcoming campaign.

Earning a reported £150,000-a-week, Chiesa would instantly become the fifth-highest earner at Spurs behind Heung-min Son, James Maddison, Cristian Romero and Timo Werner, but above the likes of Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski. The winger could quickly prove his worth, however, having previously shined on the biggest stage before struggling with injuries.

Without an experienced new signing as of yet, Spurs could be making a statement of intent in the race for Champions League qualification by signing Chiesa.

"Fantastic" Chiesa could form Son partnership

Having enjoyed one of the Premier League's most productive partnerships with Harry Kane for so many years, before he left for Bayern Munich, Son may now get the chance to form a similarly lethal duo with Chiesa, should Spurs complete their move.

Chiesa could extend Son's best form for years to come at 32 years old which could provide Postecoglou with a major boost. The Italian can play all across the frontline and may even slot straight into the leading role to push Son back to his best out wide on a permanent basis.

Chiesa initially grabbed the attention of those in England during Euro 2020, when he played a starring role in Italy's eventual victory which was ended by breaking England's hearts. Rio Ferdinand said via The Metro at the time: "He’s just a fantastic footballer. The intensity with which he plays with, we saw in the Euros he was the main goal threat for the Italians who went on to win the tournament.

"It’s his pace, his drive. He’s the one who is the threat, he’s potent, he wants to run in behind. He’s that modern day striker who can play anywhere across the front line and he’s as comfortable out wide as he is through the middle. He unnerves defenders with that pace, he’s so direct."

Spurs struck gold on "incredible" signing now worth way more than Toney

Description

As debut seasons go, it'd be fair to describe Ange Postecoghlou's with Tottenham Hotspur as a success.

The Australian was tasked with turning a team that looked lost under Antonio Conte into one that played entertaining football and genuinely challenged the big boys once again - oh, and he had to do it without Harry Kane.

However, to improve further next season, the club now need to back him in the transfer market and bring him the new number nine he is reportedly desperate for.

There have been numerous links to top strikers over the last couple of months, but perhaps none more than Brentford's Ivan Toney, who could be a transformational acquisition.

However, while the Englishman would likely be incredible for the Lilywhites, it's unlikely that his valuation will surpass that of one of his potential new teammates.

The latetst on Toney to Spurs

According to reports from earlier this week, the two clubs most likely to land Toney's signature at the moment are Tottenham and West Ham United, and with the latter looking at other options as well, the North Londoners have become favourites.

Moreover, according to a report from talkSPORT (via the Spurs Web), the Englishman is actively hoping that the North Londoners will come in with an offer for him this summer.

Now, what that offer ends up being remains to be seen, but it's unlikely to be in excess of £50m as the Sun reported last week that the Bees had reduced their asking price to below that figure as they look to avoid losing him for free next summer.

That's still a reasonably hefty fee for a player in the final year of his contract, but considering his record over the last three years, it's a justified one.

In his first campaign following promotion from the Championship, he produced 20 goal involvements in 37 games; the second year, it was even better at 26 in 35 games, and while last year saw him produce just six in 17 matches, which was primarily due to missing most of the campaign for his eight-month betting related ban.

In all, with Postecoglou crying out for a new number nine this summer, spending up to £50m on Toney seems like a no-brainer, although even at that fee, he'll be worth less than one of his most important potential new teammates.

James Maddison's valuation in 2024

Yes, the Spurs star in question is last summer's marque signing James Maddison, whose move from Leicester City cost around £40m.

However, as things stand, Transfermarkt values the Englishman at around €70m, which converts to around £59m, or at least £9m more than the Brentford star may cost.

There are likely a couple of reasons for this valuation, the first of which is that his £170k-per-week contract is set to run until summer 2028, meaning there is no need for the club to consider selling him or re-upping his deal anytime soon.

The second reason is that while he didn't have the best of campaigns towards the end of last season, he still looked great at points and racked up four goals and nine assists in 30 appearances, and in the previous three years, he has racked up 62 goals and assists in 115 games.

Lastly, his underlying numbers are still seriously impressive.

According to FBref, which compares players in similar positions in Europe's top five leagues, the "incredible" 27-year-old, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, sits in the top 1% of midfielders for shot-creating actions and progressive passes, the top 2% for attempted passes and the top 7% for assists, all per 90.

Ultimately, Toney would be an exceptional signing for Spurs, but he'll have to go some way to surpass Maddison's valuation.

Offer ready: Spurs targeting £25m Son rival who's like Martinelli

As campaigns go, last season was one full of ups and downs for Tottenham Hotspur as new boss Ange Postecoglou got to grips with life in the Premier League.

The Australian had his side playing incredible football at times, but a mixture of injuries and a collapse in form towards the back end saw the Lilywhites slip from a nailed-on Champions League place to the Europa League.

To make sure the same thing doesn't happen again this year, Daniel Levy and Co must bring in some quality additions to the squad over the coming weeks who could come in when players start to dip or even start games at times.

The good news is that, based on recent reports, it appears they are doing just that, as the latest player heavily touted for a move to N17 would be the ideal Son Heung-min rival and, interestingly, has been compared to Gabriel Martinelli in the past.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Italian journalist Gianni Balzarini, Tottenham are incredibly keen on signing Juventus star Federico Chiesa this summer.

Balzarini claims that the Lilywhites are ready to make an offer in the region of €30m - £25m - for the dynamic winger, a fee that would more than please the Old Lady.

It wouldn't be a cheap transfer, but in the modern market, it does feel like a reasonable fee for a full international.

Moreover, as the intention may well be to use him as competition or Son, Levy and Co should definitely get over the line on this transfer - his comparison to Martinelli is just a nice bonus.

How Chiesa compares to Son and Martinelli

The first thing to look at here is this comparison to Arsenal's Martinelli. While he might not be the most popular of characters on the white side of North London, he is a talented player.

For example, even with a slightly down campaign last year, he scored eight goals and provided five assists in 44 games for the Premier League runners-up.

So, while the pair's most apparent similarity is that they play on the wing, this comparison, in particular, stems from FBref.

They examined players in similar positions in the 2022/23 Europa League, created a list of the ten most comparable players for each position, and concluded that the Brazilian was the eighth most similar attacking midfielder or winger to Chiesa.

This conclusion was reached by looking at how closely the pair ranked in several underlying metrics, including assists, progressive carries, shots, short passing accuracy, shot and goal-creating actions and carries, all per 90.

With all that said, how well does the Genova-born "wizard", as dubbed by football media personality Roger Bennett, stack up to the player he'll be tasked with rivaling?

Well, unsurprisingly, the Lilywhites' captain does come out on top when it comes to output, but that isn't to say the Juve ace is an unproductive player.

In 36 appearances last season, the South Korean superstar scored 17 goals and provided ten assists, whereas the Italian scored ten goals and provided three assists in 37 games, which would've been enough to make him the joint-fourth most effective attacking player at Spurs last season.

Ultimately, for the reported fee, signing Chiesa to provide some more competition for Son feels like a no-brainer, and while the Spurs faithful don't particularly like, the comparison to Martinelli is a positive sign.
