Fabrizio Romano has shared some transfer news out of Tottenham, as one high-earning member of Ange Postecoglou's squad eyes a move to Manchester United.

Players who could still leave Spurs this summer

Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have already left Spurs this summer, contributing to the overhaul which Postecoglou hinted at earlier this year.

Sessegnon, Dier, Perisic and Tanganga quit Spurs when their contracts expired at the end of June, while Ndombele agreed to terminate his deal at N17 around a year before it was meant to run out - subsequently joining Ligue 1 side Nice on a free transfer.

While none of the aforementioned brought in transfer fees, chairman Daniel Levy will save plenty of cash on their salary, and especially on Ndombele's previous £200,000-per-week wages at Spurs.

Rodon did make Tottenham some cash back after re-joining Leeds United in a £10 million deal, acting as a sweetener for Spurs' move to sign Archie Gray, while Hojbjerg will bring in £17 million next summer when his move to Marseille becomes permanent.

After the duo, it remains the case that a few more squad members could be on the way out. Indeed, AC Milan are still attempting to sign Emerson Royal, according to reliable media sources, while La Liga side Girona are in talks with Spurs over a deal for Bryan Gil.

Richarlison is still a target for Saudi Pro League sides as well, with Spurs open to doing business for around £60 million. There is also the matter of left-back Sergio Reguilon, who spent last campaign on two half-season loans at Man United and Brentford.

The Spaniard, signed from Real Madrid in 2020 for a fee which could rise to £32 million, has appeared surplus to requirements for a long time now. Reguilon put pen to paper on a five-year deal to swap the Bernabeu for north London back then, with his contract expiring next summer.

The outstanding form of Destiny Udogie, and the presence of Ben Davies as an alternative, means the 27-year-old may have a long way back under Postecoglou, and it is rumoured they're willing to sell the defender.

Reguilon would love to re-join Man United from Tottenham

On a reported £120,000-per-week (The Mirror), Levy could be eager to find a new home for the player this summer - which will both trim the wage bill and allow Spurs to make money back off his signing.

Romano, writing an update on his Dailybriefing, claims Reguilon would love to re-join Man United on a permanent deal from Tottenham. The former Sevilla star really enjoyed his time at Old Trafford and will jump at the chance of a reunion with Erik ten Hag.

"Reguilon was very happy at United, so if they came back for him he’d be very keen on the move," wrote Romano.

"He loved his short time at the club, he was very happy with the club and the tactical ideas, but again, as of now there have been no contacts over this move."

Talks held: Spurs battle for "incredible" £60m ace who'd revive Kulusevski

We are rapidly hurtling towards the return of the Premier League next month, and while there are still a fair few pre-season clashes to get through, clubs are starting to get a move on in the transfer window.

It's no different for Tottenham Hotspur, who signed Archie Gray for £30m at the start of this month, appear incredibly close to sealing the deal for South Korean wonderkid Min-hyuk Yang, and based on recent reports, are still fighting to land another incredible star.

This player in question would be an excellent addition to Ange Postecoglou's squad and could even get more out of some of his attacking talents, including Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from transfers expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have maintained their interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and remain in contact with his agents.

In fact, Romano has revealed that the Lilywhites have been in contact with the player's representatives since February.

The Italian doesn't mention how much the Englishman may cost the North Londoners, but following a BBC Sport report from April this year, the fee has been widely reported as being about £60m.

It would represent a significant financial commitment from Daniel Levy and Co to bring Eze to N17, but given his quality and the potential for him to help get more out of Kulusevski, one well worth making.

Why Eze would be a great teammate for Kulusevski

Now, the first thing to say is that while Kulusevski certainly wasn't dreadful last season, his overall output was somewhat disappointing, considering how talented he is.

For example, in his 39 appearances for Postecoglou, he scored eight goals and provided three assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 3.54 games, which isn't enough for a winger of his ability and potential.

However, according to Understat, the Swede should have had 5.62 more assists in the league alone last season. While a part of that underperformance likely falls on him, a difference that large is likely due to his teammates' missing chances he creates that they really shouldn't be missing.

This lack of clinical finishers in the squad is hard to ignore when the only two players to reach double digits for goals across all competitions last season were Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

This is where Eze could come in and make a significant difference for Kulusevski and the club as a whole, as he proved last year that he's a fine finisher.

For example, in just 31 appearances in 2023/24, the "incredible" talent, as dubbed by teammate Joel Ward, scored 11 goals and provided six assists, equating to a goal involvement every 1.82 games, which would have made him the second most productive player in the Tottenham squad.

So, just imagine how many more assists the former Juventus ace would have to his name playing alongside a teammate as clinical as the Palace star.

Moreover, the fact that the Englishman can play on the left wing or in attacking and central midfield just means Postecoglou would have more opportunities to fit him into the starting lineup.

Ultimately, while the fee is undeniably hefty, Eze's immense talent more than makes up for it, and the idea of him playing in this exciting Spurs side with the likes of Son and Kulusevski is just the icing on the cake.

Tottenham have been in talks with a £100,000-per-week forward and his camp since February, with Ange Postecoglou's side seemingly very keen on signing him.

Spurs targeting another attacking signing after Timo Werner

The north Londoners haven't exactly been one of the busiest Premier League sides this window, making just two senior signings.

Most recently, Spurs sealed a £40 million deal to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United, with out-of-favour defender Joe Rodon re-joining the Championship side on a permanent deal to help sweeten the move.

Before one of English football's most exciting talents made the move to N17, Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy gave the green light to extend Timo Werner's loan deal by an additional season, which includes a more favourable option to buy set at around £8.5 million.

With just over a month to go until the window shuts, supporters could be hoping that Postecoglou's side manage to get a few more key additions through the door. In terms of outgoings, Spurs have been very active, ridding their manager's squad of unwanted players and trimming the club's wage bill.

Alongside Rodon, who signed for Leeds in a £10 million transfer, the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have all left.

Girona are in talks with Tottenham to sign Bryan Gil and Spurs are also prepared to sell Richarlison for £60 million, according to reports, so they could yet raise more money to fund potential transfers.

Perhaps Levy, technical director Johan Lange and the wider recruitment team are operating on a sell-to-buy policy, first offloading surplus players before a late-window surge. In any case, it is believed by many reliable media sources that Spurs want to make another attacking signing before deadline day on August 30.

That could be in the form of a new winger, with renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano backing claims that Wolves star Pedro Neto and Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze are on their radar.

The latter has been a crucial player at Selhurst Park since joining the Eagles from QPR, scoring 26 goals and registering a further 17 assists across 124 appearances in all competitions.

Writing in his Dailybriefing, Romano has now shared an interesting bit of detail on Spurs' serious interest in the England international. The reliable transfer reporter claims that Tottenham have been in talks with Eze's camp since February, with interest from north London materializing into player discussions for five months.

Fabrizio Romano: Spurs closing in on deal to sign "immense talent" for Ange

After already welcoming Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly "closing in" on welcoming a third possible future star for Ange Postecoglou this summer.

Tottenham transfer news

The Lilywhites came out the blocks fairly quickly this summer, with a deal sign Bergvall already agreed in advance and a move to sign Leeds United star Gray agreed as early as the start of this month. Since then, however, Spurs have been quiet on the incoming front with under a month until the 2024/25 Premier League campaign gets underway.

Having missed out on Champions League qualification in Postecoglou's first season in charge too, it's clear that reinforcements are still needed in north London, with reports linking Spurs to the likes of Eberechi Eze and Semih Kilicsoy. Both players would undoubtedly provide Postecoglou's side with the added edge that they lacked at times throughout the last campaign, but it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will splash the cash in abundance this summer.

Before Eze or Kiliksoy, Levy looks set to continue his focus on future stars following Gray and Bergvall. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are "closing in" on a deal to sign Min-hyuk Yang from Gangwon FC this summer. The 18-year-old right-winger impressed in the K League 1 last season and is now edging closer to joining a man who earns plenty of headlines in South Korea and Spurs captain Heung-min Son.

The dream for Yang could be to follow in Son's footsteps to become a Spurs hero and perhaps even one day replace his compatriot, given his ability to play on both the right and left wing.

"Immense" Yang is one for the future

Although he won't immediately steal the headline, Yang's arrival would represent a third piece of smart business from Spurs this summer, as they plan ahead for the future. It's no surprise that the young winger has attracted the Lilywhites' attention either, with DateMB describing him as an "immense talent" in a post comparing his stats to fellow K League wingers last season.

Close to joining: Spurs move for "unstoppable" £29m star who's like Saka

Description

After a topsy-turvy Premier League campaign that saw them ultimately qualify for the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur must get their recruitment right this summer to help Ange Postecoglou realise his ambitions in North London.

The Australian had the Lilywhites playing some scintillating football at points last year.

Still, a cavalcade of injuries and loss of form towards the end turned what could have been a frankly unbelievable season into a promising one.

Fortunately, reports suggest Daniel Levy and Co have been hard at work in recent weeks looking for the right players to come in and help the club take the next step, and the latest name touted for a move to N17 could do precisely that - oh, and he'd been compared to Bukayo Saka.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from SportMediaset via Calcio Napoli 24, Tottenham target Federico Chiesa will join the club this summer.

The report has claimed that while there was plenty of interest in the talented winger in his homeland this summer, he has opted to move to England and is now "close to Tottenham for 30-35 million euros."

This fee converts to between £25m and £29m, which seems like value for money for a player of Chiesa's quality.

Moreover, while the Spurs' faithful might not be his biggest fans for rivalry reasons, the fact that he has been compared to Saka in the past is certainly not a bad thing.

Why Chiesa would be a great signing and his comparison to Saka

So, before we look at the main reasons why Chiesa would be an excellent signing for Spurs, let's look at his comparison to the talisman of their North London rivals, Saka.

While there are obviously some positional similarities between the two internationals, this comparison stems from FBref, which compared players in similar positions at Euro 2024, created a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and concluded that the Englishman was the ninth most similar attacking midfielder or winger to the Italian at the tournament.

This was not based on the eye test but more so on how closely the pair ranked for several underlying numbers, such as non-penalty expected goals plus assists, progressive carries, live passes, completed long passes, touches and touches in the attacking third, and ball recoveries, all per 90.

However, this comparison to the England international isn't the only impressive thing about the "unstoppable" wideman, as dubbed by Giorgio Chiellini.

For example, in just 37 appearances last season, the 26-year-old dynamo scored ten goals and provided three assists, which equates to an average of a goal involvement every 2.8 games and would've made him the fourth most productive Spurs player last season.

Ultimately, for the money being reported, this deal for Chiesa seems like a total no-brainer for Levy and Co, and the comparisons to the Arsenal ace reaffirm that fact.

Deadline set: Spurs race to land "sensational" £40m ace who's like Havertz

It's an exciting time to be a Tottenham Hotspur fan as the club look well-placed to go into Ange Postecoglou's second season in charge of the club.

They've already secured the services of the exciting Archie Gray, won their first two preseason games by an aggregate score of 7-1, and are seemingly still in the race for the brilliant Eberechi Eze.

However, to ensure that Postecoglou can realise his aims in the coming campaign, Daniel Levy and Co. must bring in more talented players over the coming weeks.

The good news is that recent reports suggest they're trying to do that, with the latest name touted for a move to the club a Premier League star with an interesting comparison to Kai Havertz.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham are interested in Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

The report claims that, along with the Lilywhites, fellow Premier League side Fulham are also keen on the Englishman, although the most significant obstacle to the North Londoners getting their man may be the price, not the competition.

The story has revealed that to sell the versatile attacker, the Tricky Trees will only accept offers in excess of £40m until the deadline. This suggests that their asking price may well increase once the window reopens, and considering his £80k-per-week deal runs until 2027, that wouldn't be too surprising.

In all, while he'd cost a lot, bringing Gibbs-White to N17 this summer is a great idea, and while the Lilywhites faithful may feel differently, comparisons to Havertz after last season are certainly not a bad thing. .

How Gibbs-White compares to Havertz

Now, the first thing to note is that Gibbs-White and Havertz are obviously not identical players, but there are some apparent similarities between the pair, the first being their positional versatility.

For example, throughout his career, the Forest ace has played games in nine different positions on the pitch, the most common being attacking midfield, central midfield, centre-forward, right-winger, and second striker.

Likewise, when you include his appearances with the German senior team, the Arsenal star has played games in eight different positions in his career, the most common being attacking midfield, centre-forward, right-winger, central midfield and left-winger.

The second primary point of comparison actually stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues and creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one in which they conclude that the former Chelsea man is the ninth most similar midfielder to the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace across those five leagues.

To reach this conclusion, FBref doesn't use the eye test. Instead, they compare the pair's underlying numbers and measure how closely they rank in a number of underlying numbers, including assists, passes into the penalty area, live passes, the accuracy of their medium passes, touches in the attacking third, blocks, the number of dribblers they tackle, and even the fouls they draw, all per 90.

However, alongside the comparison to their fierce rivals' newfound striker, Spurs should be going after the "sensational" Englishman, as journalist Josh Bunting dubbed him, because of his impressive campaign last season.

In 42 appearances, the 24-year-old scored six goals and provided ten assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 2.62 games for a team in a relegation scrap for much of the year - just imagine what he could do under Postecoglou.

Ultimately, while the fee is significant, signing Gibbs-White would be an excellent idea this summer and one that would seriously improve the quality of Spurs' squad, and while the fans might not like him, the comparisons to Havertz are encouraging.
