David Moyes probably can’t help but cast an envious eye across the city and to the potential fees that his opposite number Arne Slot might be spending this summer.

The Everton boss has between £50-100m to spend on a transfer budget that will have to be wisely spent as he looks to rebuild a squad that could have as many as 14 departures. He doesn’t have a lot of money to spend, but could well have to replace several key figures from last season.

Abdoulaye Doucoure will be a miss, however, Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande is already being linked as a possible replacement. Brighton’s Matt O’Riley has also been mentioned as a player who Moyes could turn to for extra creativity in the Toffee’s engine room.

Everton named as being interested in a return for Richarlison

The forward line will also need a lot of work and speculation continues to link Richarlison with a return to Everton. Transfer journalist Ekram Konur has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur would consider a loan with an obligation to buy the 28-year old Brazilian with a €35m (£29.5) price tag.

It is a lot of money for a player with no real sell on value, it is also a lot of money for someone who carries the sort of baggage that Richarlison does in terms of the risks associated with his signature.

Since signing for Spurs, the Brazil international has had 10 different absences relating to various injuries with the worst affecting his hamstring - an injury notorious for being the death of forward’s with explosive power.

Everton don’t have the budget to have the same sort of depth as a lot of the teams competing for European places and the last thing they need is for their biggest earner and summer outlay to be sat in the treatment room. Richarlison has missed 60 games in three seasons at Spurs, hardly the sort of reliability that Moyes will be looking for.

What has David Moyes said about potentially signing Richarlison?

Moyes addressed the speculation earlier in May, and was his usual no-nonsense self:

"Richarlison is a really good player and someone I've liked," Moyes told a news conference after being pressed on a possible return for the forward, via BBC Sport.

"But I can only tell you there is zero truth in that from my side."

The player himself hasn’t been happy with how things have gone this season with just a handful of starts in the Premier League:

"Of course, this season hasn't been what I expected due to some injuries that have held me back a bit. I've experienced great moments in my career. I've won trophies with thee Brazilian national team.

"I've been decisive in many games. I think it will be a great game,” Richarlison said ahead of the Europa League final.

He didn’t get his goal, however, Ange Postecoglu did give him a place in the starting XI in what wouldn’t be a bad way to sign off his Spurs career, although his appearance record is not the sort to inspire Moyes to part with most of his budget it would seem.

Premier League heavyweights Liverpool have been handed a key boost in their pursuit of an elite central defender this summer. The Reds are looking to sign a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk after tying the Dutchman down to a new two-year-contract and have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who played a defining role in helping the Eagles to a first major honour in the club’s history.

Guehi has just one year remaining on his Selhurst Park contract and is expected once again to be the subject of rampant interest from Premier League clubs after a long-running saga last summer which saw him nearly move to Newcastle United. Meanwhile, in January, it’s widely understood that Tottenham had an offer turned down to sign the centre back and it appears that history could repeat itself this summer.

Marc Guehi rejects offer to join Tottenham Hotspur

Football Insider reporter Dan Sheridan claims Marc Guehi has rejected the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The report states that while Guehi is likely to leave South London this summer, it’s unlikely he’ll be heading to the North part of the capital despite Spurs’ Champions League status. The Lilywhites qualified for Europe’s elite competition as a result of winning the Europa League but endured a miserable league campaign which saw them finish in 17th position.

Football Insider claims Guehi is not interested in a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and that he’d instead prefer to move to a team at the upper end of the league table that he feels can consistently challenge for trophies. Newcastle are expected to return to the table with another offer and his price tag is expected to be much less than the £70m - £80m previously quoted due to the player’s contract situation.

Liverpool handed golden opportunity to sign Marc Guehi

Football Insider claims recent developments have left Liverpool as the front-runners to sign Marc Guehi as they continue to try and strengthen in what has so far been a hectic summer window. Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold while Florian Wirtz is expected to arrive for a figure in the region of £109m to bolster an already excellent midfield. Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is also believed to be a top target that can ensure the long-term stability of the left-back position for the next decade.

Guehi has the potential to be one of the most shrewd additions of the window so far, amid speculation about the future of Ibrahima Konate and reported interest from Real Madrid. The Eagles captain notably could be available for a figure of around £34m, according to Give Me Sport.

Squad depth will be paramount if Liverpool are to defend their title and go deeper in the Champions League, and with Guehi arriving it could give the club three elite centre back options which also allows the team to be fluid and potentially change formation to a three-at-the-back on occasion.

Arne Slot has lifted the lid on why he turned down Tottenham Hotspur before being appointed Liverpool head coach.

Slot is the toast of Merseyside after guiding the Reds to the Premier League title in his maiden campaign. There was uncertainty among Kopites when Jurgen Klopp announced his shock departure in January 2024. Klopp had restored Liverpool to the pinnacle of European football during his time in the Anfield hot seat, winning seven major trophies including the Champions League and Premier League.

When Slot was appointed Klopp’s successor, it was a gargantuan void he was asked to fill. What’s more, the Dutchman was unheralded despite having guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup. But he swiftly displayed his managerial acumen as Liverpool cruised to the 20th English championship in their history and also reached the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Things could have been different for the Reds, though. In the summer of 2023, Slot was linked with the vacant Tottenham role. He turned down the opportunity, with Ange Postecoglou instead landing the North London vacancy.

What’s been said

And speaking to Netherlands-based newspaper De Telegraaf, Slot revealed that he had doubts about Spurs and did not take the job because of family reasons. He said: "I did have doubts about Tottenham and in the end I didn't do it.

“It was questionable whether there would be another chance, but it was 99.9 per cent a family choice not to do it, while we had already come a long way together. I didn't have any doubts about Liverpool. If Tottenham had gone through, I would have thought that was really great. Because, who goes from Feyenoord to Tottenham as a coach if you haven't had a great football career?

“Look, there are enough great players of whom people thought, yes, he will end up at a big club as a coach. When I also see who is in the Champions League final, Simone Inzaghi and Luis Enrique, they are my biggest competitors in Europe. And here in the Premier League it is [Mikel] Arteta and [Pep] Guardiola. So with my career as a player, I think it is quite special that I am here, let alone that I am also performing well."

Similar experience

Slot left his native Holland for the first time to take charge of Liverpool. He made 462 appearances during his playing career before moving into coaching. He started at Cambuur before moving to AZ Alkmaar and then Feyenoord where he had great success.

While Slot did not get a chance to move abroad previously, he feels everything has worked out for the best. He added: “Yes, it worked out well right away. Definitely. Still, I’ve said many times, and I’m not trying to suck up to you, but Feyenoord was also a phenomenal club to work for. The great thing is that there are so many similarities between Feyenoord and Liverpool. Nice people at the training complex, the atmosphere, the city.”

Liverpool have appointed a new member of staff to their backroom.

The Reds have added Tika Musonda to their scouting department. He has been handed the role of global talent scout. Musonda’s account on LinkedIn revealed that he started his remit at the Premier League champions this month. Musonda arrives from top-flight rivals Tottenham Hotspur where he was a first-team scout for the past three-and-a-half years.

The 31-year-old is the brother of former Chelsea and Celtic attacking midfielder, Charly.

During Musonda’s playing career, he also spent time at Stamford Bridge but did not make a first-team appearance. Having come through the ranks at Anderlecht, the former defensive midfielder represented Belgium at under-19 level and earned one cap for Zambia.

After bringing the curtain down on his playing career in 2019, he rejoined Chelsea as a video scout before moving into an international role. He made the switch to Spurs in January 2022 and now has moved to Liverpool.

Musonda will be part of recruiting talent from across the world as the Reds aim to defend their Premier League title in the 2025-26 campaign. The Daily Mail reports that Musonda has Master’s degree in sport business and leadership ‘writing a paper on the challenges, complexities and cognitive biases that scouts face in the Premier League’.

David Moyes has denied that Everton are keen to re-sign Richarlison.

The striker appears that he could leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window - three years after leaving the Toffees for North London. Richarlison was a fans’ favourite at Goodison Park and has remained favoured by supporters since his £60 million exit.

However, things have not worked out for the Brazil international at Spurs and he’s been hampered by injury for large periods. Everton will be in the market for a new centre-forward in the upcoming window, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s deal set to expire and Armando Broja heading back to Chelsea after an underwhelming loan spell.

But speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Fulham in the Premier League, Moyes has declared there is ‘no truth’ behind the rumours. The Everton manager said: "There is zero truth in that in my side"

Liverpool could already be looking to cash in on recent signing Federico Chiesa, despite him not yet reaching the first year milestone of his Anfield chapter.

The Italian was the only player to arrive on Merseyside under the new reign of Arne Slot. Liverpool agreed a £12.5 million deal with Juventus last August but his maiden season in the Premier League has been far from what he had probably been hoping for.

Since his arrival, Chiesa has had limited time on the pitch to prove himself. He has made just five Premier League appearances so far, made up of a mere 41 minutes combined.

Injury has played a part in Chiesa’s lack of action but he has been left on the bench 17 times in all competitions this season. It has now been reported that the Reds are willing to sell up this summer if the right offer presents itself.

Liverpool willing to sell Federico Chiesa this summer

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are considering cashing in on Chiesa already but will only be entertaining offers of permanent moves rather than loans. The Reds have valued the winger in the region of €15-20 million (£12-17m), which has been viewed as a reasonable and achievable price for most clubs in Europe.

However, a deal is ‘far from straightforward’, as interested clubs in Italy may struggle with his wage demands. The report claims that AC Milan and Napoli are both interested in bringing Chiesa back to home soil but are ‘wary’ of his salary. The latter especially views the 27-year-old’s wages are ‘excessive’ by their financial standards.

Liverpool could have an opening to sell to a club less concerned by money, though. Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also reportedly entered the race to sign Chiesa and the report describes the North London club as ‘serious contenders’ for his signature.

Tottenham eye move for Liverpool winger Fedrico Chiesa

Former Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is in line to return to the club and reclaim his former position ahead of the summer transfer window. The 52-year-old took a leave of absence after he was issued a ban from Italian football as result of former club Juventus being found guilty of false accounting.

Paratici has longstanding ties with Chiesa from their time at Juve and his relationship with the player’s agent could ‘prove crucial’ in striking a deal to bring him to Tottenham.

Returning to his home country and Serie A will undoubtedly be an appealing avenue for Chiesa but Spurs could offer him the opportunity to remain in the Premier League, with more minutes on the pitch.

Tottenham are looking to bolster a number of areas of their squad this summer following an underwhelming season. With three games left, Spurs are way down the table in 16th place with just 38 points on the board. Doubt has been cast over Dominic Solanke’s ability to provide consistent goals moving forward, so the club are eager to snap up new attacking options.

Glenn Hoddle believes that Liverpool can still improve in defence despite being crowned Premier League champions - and suggested they should try to prise one of Tottenham Hotspur’s prized assets to Anfield.

The Reds are plotting how they can keep a firm grip on the silverware as they aim for a record-breaking 21st English championship in the 2025-2026 season.

Arne Slot has confirmed that Liverpool will make additions in the summer to freshen up their squad. A new striker and a left-back are the two positions that they are expected to bolster.

However, Hoddle also believes that there could be a fresh face in central defence. Vigil van Dijk is the undisputed first choice and has captained Liverpool to glory. He has largely been partnered by Ibrahima Konate throughout the campaign.

But Hoddle, speaking after the 3-1 loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge , has suggested that the Reds should explore a move for Tottenham's Micky van de Ven. The former England boss has suggested that the Holland international, who is van Dijk's international team-mate, may be an upgrade on Konate and could help Liverpool begin a period of dominance that they enjoyed in the 1980s.

Hoddle told Premier League Productions: “He's fit now but he's at my club... van de Ven. You'd have to pay for him but those two Dutchmen together. I don't want it to happen but I’m just giving an example of players that could go in and go above players who are there at the moment. You're going to have to spend money.

“Without his injuries... Going back a few months ago, everyone was talking about the quadruple, that they were going to win four trophies. They've ended up winning the Premier League, which is magnificent for them. There are players out there that can still improve the best team and they'll go again.

“Liverpool have won the Premier League now. If you look at Liverpool Football Club, they have got a really strong squad but are they going to go for the next six years as dominating English football? That's where Liverpool should be aiming and that squad isn't good enough right now. When you're champions and in the Champions League, it depends on where the club want to go... do they want to dominate in the 1980s and do what City have done and leave Arsenal behind?”

Centre-back pursuit

Liverpool have been linked with several centre-halves, with Konate's current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026. AFC Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen is on the radar and he has a £50 million release clause installed in his Vitality Stadium contract. Huijsen netted in Bouremouth’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last weekend.

If the Reds do look to improve in the rearguard, they may want a long-term successor for van Dijk rather than someone to start immediately.

Slot’s history with Micky van de Van

However, van de Ven has previously admitted that Slot tried to sign him in the past. When in charge of both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord he was keen to bring in the defender when he was at FC Volendam but he instead opted for German side Wolfsburg.

“Slot wanted to sign me for AZ Alkmaar when he saw me play in the first season at Volendam,” van de Ven said the Mirror earlier this year. “The club refused to sell me and I had to accept that they would not let me go. When he was at Feyenoord he tried to sign me, too, but by then I had already signed for Wolfsburg in Germany.”

Arne Slot has named his Liverpool team in a bid to secure the Premier League title.

A draw for the Reds against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this afternoon will see a record-equalling 20th English championship added to the trophy cabinet.

Liverpool head coach Slot makes two changes from last weekend’s 1-0 win at Leicester City. Trent Alexander-Arnold is back in the starting line-up after coming off the bench to bag the winner against the Foxes. He replaces Conor Bradley, who is a surprise absent from the squad, at right-back. Bradley has a knock so has not been risked.

Slot has also opted to switch his left-back, with Andy Robertson coming in for Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson has been on the bench for the previous two games.

Bradley’s absence means that Federico Chiesa is back on the bench for Liverpool.

Speaking in his programme notes, Slot said: "The overriding message today is very simple – we have a job to do. It is a job that everyone associated with Liverpool FC should be excited about because the possibilities it creates are there for all to see but, as with every other game we have played this season, hard work will be absolutely crucial.

"So focusing on the job at hand is not just desirable, it is absolutely essential. On and off the pitch, our aim has to be to get as close as we possibly can to our A-game. Reaching those standards will not be easy – it never is – but it needs to be the objective of everyone who is inside the stadium today.

"So what we have now and in the remaining weeks of the season is a wonderful opportunity that we should grasp with both hands. Finishing top of this league would be an incredible achievement and having put ourselves in a position to do so, we now need to finish the work that began all the way back in the summer of last year.

"The effort that has gone into each and every training session and each and every game since then has been remarkable but it has also been an absolute necessity.

"Imagine for a second if those standards had been dropped on only one or two occasions. I have no doubt that we would find ourselves in a different situation today if that had happened.

"That it hasn't is testament to every single player, every single staff member and every single supporter. The story of this season for us is that everyone has pushed each other on.

"I could pay endless compliments to all involved and hopefully the time for that will come but the most important thing right now is that we all recognise that this would not be the time to stop.

"To our supporters, this message is tinged with gratitude. Every time we have needed you so far this season, you have delivered. In our most testing moments you have lifted the team to a level that has helped us to win games that might have got away from us otherwise.

Arne Slot will face decisions when it comes to selecting the Liverpool squad for the game that could win them the Premier League title.

The Reds know that just a draw against Tottenham Hotspur will ensure a record-equalling 20th English crown will be claimed. Kopites will head to Anfield in high spirits and many will have likely booked Monday off work to celebrate.

Slot and the Liverpool squad know that there is still a job to be done, however. The Reds head coach has insisted that nothing has changed in terms of preparations and they will want to deliver a victory.

But as Slot selects his match-day squad, there will be some players who will be delivered disappointing news. Liverpool have just one senior player in Joe Gomez injured. The versatile defender is recovering from hamstring surgery and there is hope that he might be back for the final games of the campaign.

Of course, it makes sense that third-choice goalkeeper Viteslav Jaros will be left out. Alisson Becker is No.1 stopper with Caoimhin Kelleher deputy. Jaros has made one appearance in the league title assault when he came off the bench in a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in October. Alisson was forced off with an injury and Kelleher was ill.

Tyler Morton was kept at Anfield in the summer to provide midfield cover. The academy product spent the previous two campaigns on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City respectively. Any chance of heading out on loan in January was denied by a shoulder injury that required an operation. Morton, 22, has been back in training for several weeks.

James McConnell was also kept at Liverpool in the winter window to ensure that they were not left short. The 20-year-old featured for the under-21s in a 2-1 defeat by Manchester City on Friday night, which suggests he will not be required.

And it could mean that Federico Chiesa is again omitted. The summer signing from Juventus has made only four top-flight appearances for the Reds - none of which have been starts. For last weekend’s 1-0 loss against Leicester City, Chiesa was not included. That was because Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to fitness from an ankle injury - and came off the bench to net the winner.

Slot also opted for Darwin Nunez to return to the squad at Leicester after illness. There were reports in Portugal earlier this week that Liverpool will have to pay Benfica an additional €5 million if Nunez makes one more start. However, head coach Slot denied those claims. The Dutchman said at his pre-match press conference: "Do you always believe what journalists say? Not always? Me neither. Sometimes it is better not to believe everything that is written about players.

"[The clause is] completely new to me. The last thing I would expect Richard Hughes [the sporting director] to do is tell me that if I play Nunez it would cost us this much. He would never do that. He never interferes with the line-up."

Arne Slot remains hopeful that Joe Gomez can return to action for Liverpool before the end of the season.

The Reds are on the verge of winning the Premier League title and need only a draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Several members of the squad will win the English championship for a second time at Anfield - including Gomez.

The defender has been on the treatment table since February after undergoing hamstring surgery. It means he will have to watch Liverpool potentially claim the title from the sidelines. But Gomez will be want to be fully part of the celebrations when Liverpool lift the crown on the final day of the campaign against Crystal Palace. And there is hope the Reds’ longest-serving senior player will be back for that game on Sunday 25 May.

Slot said at his pre-Tottenham press conference: “If his recovery goes well, he would be able to [play] maybe in the last one or two games of the season. But he is still not training with us yet. But he is coming closer and closer to train with the team.

“But then he’s been out for a long time. We were just discussing Conor Bradley – it took him a while before he could even come in or have a long start. I think he [Gomez] will be available in the last one, two or three games if his recovery goes the way as planned.”

Gomez could be the only Liverpool player absent against Tottenham. Trent Alexander-Arnold recovered from an ankle injury to make a match-winning return in last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City. However, the right-back still not be ready to feature from the outset so Conor Bradley is likely to continue.

Bradley has only recently recovered from his own hamstring complaint. Slot confirmed that the Northern Ireland international is getting closer to being able to play for 90 minutes. The Liverpool head coach added: "He is getting closer and closer to 90 minutes, but it depends on the upcoming two sessions. It's normal if you played twice for 70 minutes, the chance of you playing 90 is getting closer.

"We are taking good care of him because he has had two injuries that were similar. Let's wait and see how he does today and tomorrow and see if he is able to play and if he is, whether he will be able to play the full 90.

"It's going to be very important for him to become a better player than he is now to play many games in a row. Unfortunately for him, there is another full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is world-class at this club. That is perhaps the only reason he hasn't played back-to-back games. He definitely has the quality to do so and I think his next step is to play every single week and feel that pressure and at a certain moment it doesn't feel pressure anymore.

"That is his next step, but as long as Trent is here, it's going to be a difficult step to make as well. But they are both very good full-backs."
