Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that Ruben Amorim's top transfer target had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, despite rival interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Spurs.

However, Sky Sports suggest that Mbeumo has since warmed to the idea of a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under his old boss.

This news sent shockwaves through the fanbase, as United have yet to come back to the table after Brentford knocked back an initial offer of £45million plus £10m in add-ons.

Amorim is also rumoured to be on the hunt for a striker after Mbeumo. However, a move for Viktor Gyokeres seems unlikely as the Sporting ace has turned down a reunion.

Alternatives linked include Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike.

United's early emphasis on beefing up their attack is hardly surprising given they only managed 44 goals in the Premier League last season.

Mbeumo and Cunha alone netted a combined total of 35. The Red Devils' joint top-scorers, Bruno Fernandes and Amad, could only muster eight each.

Rasmus Hojlund only found the back of the net four times in the Premier League, while Joshua Zirkzee managed just three following his £36.5m transfer from Bologna.

At present, it seems unlikely that United will exceed the £60million they've already offered for their top target, Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha.

Despite the potential for change, Brentford believe they are justified in maintaining their £70million valuation of Mbeumo. Last season, only three players - Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland - outscored him. His seven assists also played a crucial role in securing a top-half finish for the west London club.

Where United might still have an advantage is in terms of wages. The salary on offer at Old Trafford ranges from £150,000 to £175,000 per week, with bonuses potentially pushing Mbeumo's total package up to £200,000 per week.

To match this, Spurs would need to break their strict wage structure, with Mbeumo expected to earn around £130,000 to £140,000 per week. Even with bonuses, this would still fall short of what he could earn at United.

Mbeumo's outstanding performance last season for Brentford alleviated concerns that the club would struggle after star striker Ivan Toney left for Saudi Arabia on Transfer Deadline Day a year ago.

With just a year remaining on his contract, plus an option for an additional year, the Bees are resigned to the fact that Mbeumo feels his time at the GTech Stadium has come to an end and he is ready to move on.

Conte has the air of a Roman general, leading some far flung-campaign into the dense forests of Britannia, spreading the rule of Italia '90 into these barbaric, hooligan lands.

There have been some articles online about a possible transplant, although he’s never spoken about it. But who cares? He won a lot of league games, and when he did it, his hair was dense, a straight mop of results-driven endeavour.

And then there was Tim Sherwood. He’s 56 now but you wouldn’t know it thanks to his lid. It’s the envy even of school kids yet to feel the breeze creeping through the tops of their scalps, all effortless quiffs and easy-going mess. His win record? 59%, the best in the era, the high watermark for Spurs managers in the league.

Think about all that, really let it soak in, you know it makes sense. Then think about what Thomas Frank looks like. He’ll be alright.

The report also highlighted that Brentford are open to negotiations and United are still in the game, hell-bent on sealing the deal. Mbeumo has long been on Old Trafford's radar, with the coaching team seeing him as a perfect fit for Amorim's tactics and style.

Postecoglou, 59, was sacked by Spurs on Friday (June 6) after guiding his side to the promised land in the Europa League. However, even ending Spurs' trophy drought couldn't gloss over their torrid Premier League season.

Tottenham finished just one spot above the relegation zone - and after a week of deliberation Daniel Levy has decided it was time to get rid of the Aussie.

In a statement, he said: "When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride.

"The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.

"That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream. There were many challenges to overcome and plenty of noise that comes with trying to accomplish what many said was not possible.

"We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 7 more years for their next success. I have enormous faith in this group of players and know there is much more potential and growth in them.

"I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club, the supporters. I know there were some difficult times but I always felt that they wanted me to succeed and that gave me all the motivation I needed to push on.

"It's important to acknowledge the hard working people at Spurs who gave me encouragement on a daily basis.

"And finally, I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years. A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club and the brilliant coaches who never once doubted we could do something special.

Ange Postecoglou has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur despite ending their long wait for silverware.

The decision comes just weeks after he guided Spurs to the Europa League with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United to end Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought and return the club to the Champions League next season.

But the 59-year-old also oversaw the club's worst-ever Premier League campaign, as the North Londoners finished an embarrassing 17th in the table. Postecoglou appeared at Spurs' trophy parade in high spirits as he told fans: "[In] all the best television series, season three is better than season two."

The Aussie's manager's apparent intention to remain in North London has not been reciprocated by club owner, Daniel Levy, who today decided to end his two-year spell with the Lilywhites.

A statement read: "Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties.

"Ange joined us from Celtic in the summer of 2023 and oversaw a period of change on the pitch, returning us to the attacking brand of football that has traditionally been associated with the Club, while writing a new chapter in our history by leading us to UEFA Europa League glory in Bilbao last month - an achievement that will live with us all forever.

"We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.

"However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games.

"This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. At times there were extenuating circumstances - injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign.

"Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.

"It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond.

"This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude. We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision.

"We have a talented, young squad and Ange has given us a great platform to build upon. We should like to express our gratitude to him. We wish him well for the future - he will always be welcome back at our home.

"News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course."

Postecoglou was hired by Spurs in 2023, after he left Scottish giants Celtic, where he had won two Scottish Premierships. He made a bright start to life in North London.

After an unbeaten start with two wins and a draw in his first three matches, Postecoglou received the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August, becoming the first manager since David Wagner to win the award in his first month in the division.

He would also win his first North London derby and their first victory against Liverpool in five years - thanks to one of the most controversial VAR decisions in history. However, Spurs would end up outside of the Champions League spots - finishing 5th.

Postecoglou's second season in English football was tough, with Spurs struggling domestically amid a brutal injury crisis that saw their squad pushed to breaking point.

There were also regular arguments and flash points between Postecoglou and fans in the stands, appearing to cause a rift between the manager and the Tottenham faithful. However, to many all was forgiven when he brought home the Europa League trophy in Bilbao.

Tottenham are yet to announce who will be their next manager, but numerous Premier League candidates, including Thomas Frank, Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva, have all been linked with the position.
