Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for their first season under new boss Thomas Frank and the north London side will feel that their summer transfer business is not done just yet.

An unfortunate ACL injury to James Maddison in pre-season has left Spurs in a difficult position as we enter the final stretch of the transfer window. Frank may feel that creative reinforcements are needed as he aims to drag his players up from their shock 17th-placed finish last campaign which was juxtaposed by Europa League glory against Manchester United.

Mohammed Kudus has already been brought in for £55million from West Ham United while a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White fell through, which makes the situation surrounding Maddison all the more frustrating. Manchester City winger Savinho has emerged as a surprise target in recent days after an initial £43m bid was rejected, while Spurs may yet return for a top transfer target with whom they were heavily linked earlier in the window.

Tottenham ‘back in talks’ with Eberechi Eze

According to reports by Fabrizio Romano on X, Spurs are ‘back in talks’ with long-standing target Eberechi Eze, who may still depart Crystal Palace this summer despite playing a role in the Eagles’ Community Shield victory against Liverpool.

Romano said: “Understand Tottenham are also back in talks for Eberechi Eze in separate deal from Savinho. Spurs trying again for Eze while they work on Savinho, following Maddison injury and Son exit. Eze keen but deal depends on Palace as release clause expired.”

In a follow-up, he added in another post on X: “Eberechi Eze, keen on Tottenham move as Palace are informed of his desire to play Champions League football. Deal now depends on club to club talks but Spurs are seriously working on it.”

Eze previously had a £68m release clause within his deal at Palace, which Spurs and arch-rivals Arsenal both explored paying earlier in the summer. The clause recently expired, meaning there is no guarantee the Eagles allow their star player to depart, though both north London clubs will hope they can negotiate down a transfer fee below the original price if the player requests a move.

The Guardian has reported that Arsenal’s interest is still current but the Gunners “need to make sales in attack before pressing ahead with their pursuit of the England international.”

Eze and Savinho moves could make Spurs top-four contenders

Following last season’s struggles, it is paramount that Spurs take advantage of this summer and the pull of Champions League football to build a squad capable of challenging for a return to Europe’s top table once again.

Particularly when playing on several fronts, squad competition is important and Spurs saw several injuries in key positions last season which left their squad threadbare around the mid-point of the season. The signings of Eze and Savinho would not only directly improve Spurs’ starting XI and replace Son and Maddison, they would result in a squad brimming with competition when the likes of Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski return from injury.

Eze brings a flair and directness through the centre of the park which is rare to find and very difficult to stop. Also capable of operating from the left, the England international could be just the spark Spurs need to inspire an exciting year on the pitch for Frank’s side.

Meanwhile, Savinho has immense potential at the age of just 21 and became one of Manchester City’s chief creators with 13 assists in his first season at the club. There is no doubt he could combine effortlessly with Eze to create endless chances for the likes of Dominic Solanke, Kudus and Brennan Johnson. These would be two statement signings if Spurs can get them done and ensure they are in the picture to get back into the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur are busy preparing for the start of the Premier League campaign but first have the UEFA Super Cup with Paris Saint-Germain to contend with on Wednesday night.

Spurs set up the clash with the French champions after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final while PSG hammered Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final.

Thomas Frank then takes charge of his Premier League game as Tottenham boss on Saturday afternoon at home to newly-promoted Burnley.

However, while the competitive on-pitch action gets underway this weekend there is still time to get more transfer business done with the window open until 7pm on September 1. Spurs have reportedly opened talks with Man City for forward Savinho as Thomas Frank looks to add more threat to his attacking ranks in North London.

Tottenham improved offer expected after Man City reject £43m bid

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are ‘expected to return with an improved offer’ for Savinho after City rejected an opening bid of £43m. The 21-year-old signed for Pep Guardiola’s side for around £31m 12 months ago and was given plenty of minutes last term but now appears eligible for an exit.

He made 48 appearances scoring three goals and providing 13 assists. He appeared to be part of Guardiola’s plans for next campaign after playing a key role at the Club World Cup. He started three of the four games.

The winger was rested for the 6-0 Group G win over Al-Ain but started against Juventus and in the round of 16, as City were knocked out of the tournament by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Spurs have completed a permanent deal for Mathys Tel this summer and signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in a £55m deal. However, their other signings have focused on the defensive side with Frank keen to add another attacker.

Savinho has ‘something special’ - Pep Guardiola player verdict

After being involved in three goals in a 4-1 win over West Ham back in January, City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Savinho. The winger forced an own goal from Vladimir Coufal and then provided two assists for Erling Haaland.

“I think he’s clean in his mind,” said Guardiola.

“He doesn’t think too much in his head. When you are many years here, players think they deserve something special for what they have done.

“That is a big mistake. You have to prove it again and again. Savinho has everything to win and prove.

“Having old fashioned football with left foot on the left and right on the right, these kinds of crosses help the kind of striker we have.

“The second goal at Leicester and the second goal today. He has a lot to improve, he is not aggressive enough without the ball, but right now he has something special to help the team.

“His goal was lucky, but the two assists were brilliant. I am so happy for him, and he deserves to play.”

The new Premier League season is just a few days away for Tottenham Hotspur and the north London club continue to target squad improvements as Thomas Frank looks to make a strong start to his time as Spurs head coach.

The Lilywhites won the Europa League final against Manchester United in May and have made a few additions to their squad over the summer but will hope there is further business yet to be done, with Champions League football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the horizon.

Mohammed Kudus arrived in a huge £55million purchase from London rivals West Ham United, while a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White fell through at the final stages and the playmaker has now signed a new deal at the City Ground. This has become an even bigger blow since James Maddison picked up an ACL injury and may be out for several months, meaning Spurs are in need of some extra creativity.

Spurs target Man City winger Savinho

Reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, Spurs have opened talks over the surprise signing of Manchester City and Brazil winger Savinho. Romano states that ‘club to club talks’ have begun over a transfer for the 21-year-old, amidst reports that a €50m (£43m) bid has been submitted by Spurs. It is believed that this is below City’s valuation of the winger, said to be around £50m. They signed him for £30.8m from sister club Troyes last summer after a stand-out loan spell at Girona.

Romano’s report continues that Savinho could be open to the move if the two clubs can agree a fee. The Brazil international is said to be an ‘ideal’ player for new Spurs boss Frank, particularly amidst the recent departure of club captain and legend Son Heung-min.

While it will be difficult to replace the South Korean’s goalscoring output, Savinho managed 13 assists in his debut season in Manchester and he could be a valuable asset in setting up goals for the likes of Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson, replacing both the pace and directness of Son and the creativity of Maddison in one go. There will likely be further developments in this story in the coming days as we learn whether City might sanction an exit for the youngster.

Pep Guardiola would be sad to see ‘incredible’ Savinho leave

Pep Guardiola is said to be a huge fan of Savinho, to whom he gave over 3,000 minutes of playing time in his first season in England. He spoke with high praise on the winger following his goal against Juventus in the Club World Cup.

"He is a player with incredible potential," he said. "We cannot forget he's so young. He needs to make the final third more decisive in aspects like the goal he has done in the last game. He has to do it more. The last goal is more and more complicated and difficult to score than the previous ones - one against ones, the 'keeper, that maybe last season he missed.

"The moment he will make this step, which will come in a natural way because he has incredible individual quality, when it arrives for his commitment to say I want to do it, I want to be decisive, I want to score goals and make more assists, he will become an extraordinary player. He can play on both sides, right and left, he's so fast, he understands tactically the movements he has so to do so that's why he can play with us."

This would be a major coup if Spurs can secure a deal for a player Guardiola evidently rates so highly. It would no doubt signal the ambition of Frank and the club ahead of what could be an important season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night with the French giants sent to be without midfield linchpin Joao Neves for the clash.

Thomas Frank’s first competitive match in charge comes as a result of Spurs winning the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou last season. The victors of that tournament take on the winners of the Champions League in a curtain raiser for the season ahead.

It gives the former Brentford manager the chance to get his hands on a piece of silverware immediately but Paris Saint-Germain represent a notoriously difficult opponent. The Champions League winners made it to the final of the Club World Cup this summer but will be weakened against Tottenham Hotspur having picked up a red card in that game.

PSG handed suspension blow ahead of Tottenham Hotspur

Neves was sent off in the closing stages of that 3-0 defeat to Enzo Maresca’s side in what was a crazy incident involving full-back Marc Cucurella. The PSG star was left fuming by the Spaniard’s trademark antics and resorted to pulling on his long hair late on.

It’s now been confirmed by French journalist Fabrice Hawkins that the red card will rule Neves out of the fixture against Spurs, despite that red card coming in a separate tournament. The player will then also miss out of Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 opening against Nantes on August 17.

It’s a big blow for Luis Enrique. Neves made 59 appearances in all competitions last season and the player was regularly praised by his manager. Speaking about the 20-year-old last September, Enrique said: “What I expect from him is the same as I expect from all midfield players.

“He adapts perfectly to my idea of the game: his style of play, his physical strength, his intelligence, his relationships with his teammates. He has one important characteristic: he doesn't lose the ball. He adapted to the team very quickly. He and the other players who arrived have a good connection with the rest of the team.”

Thomas Frank ready for Super Cup clash

Neves played 84 minutes in the 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final and became a regular starter in Enrique’s XI despite his young age. The French outfit forked out a €59.9 million fee with €10 million of add-ons in 2024 to sign the player from Benfica.

Speaking ahead of the Super Cup, Thomas Frank said: “We will 100% be ready for that game. I’m not in doubt about that. There are six days ahead… then we will be ready against PSG.

“The lesson I want to learn is that we won. That game will be about winning. If, for whatever reason, we shouldn’t win, then we will learn from it. We don’t see it as a test. We see it as two good teams against each other, and we want to win."

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are set to miss out on a loan swoop for in-demand Manchester City winger Jack Grealish this summer with Premier League rivals Everton now in advanced talks to bring the England international to Merseyside.

Grealish, who signed for Manchester City for £100 million in 2021, only played 715 minutes of football in the league for Pep Guardiola last season. The winger was handed just four minutes of action in the top flight over the final seven fixtures of the campaign.

As a result, Manchester City were expected to green light a loan move for the player this term in a bid to help him get his career back on track. The 29-year-old hasn’t played for England since October 2024.

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur linked with Jack Grealish

Having sold Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham Hotspur for £55 million already this summer, West Ham are in the market for a new wide player. Callum Wilson has arrived as a free agent from Newcastle United to bolster attacking options but plays through the middle and is known to struggle with injuries.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have seen club legend Son Heung-min depart north London, which has opened up another berth for a winger alongside Kudus. An injury to James Maddison has also underlined the need for another midfield signing.

It’s been a slow start to the window for the Hammers but manager Graham Potter has remained calm. When recently asked if he felt he had been backed in the window, Potter said: "Yes, I don't see it in those ways, to be honest. I don't see it as backing me or not, it's about what's right for the club, the parameters that the club have to work in. I'm really happy with what we've done already, we'll always look to improve the team while the window's open, and if there's an opportunity to do that, we will."

Everton set to win Manchester City transfer race

GiveMeSport had claimed that West Ham could look to sign Grealish in a swap deal that would see Lucas Paqueta head the other way while The Standard had named Spurs as potential suitors. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that those London clubs are set to miss out with Everton in pole position.

Writing on social media platform X on Sunday, Romano said: “Everton keep advancing in talks for Jack Grealish as priority target. The player has opened doors to the move and negotiations are underway. Everton and Man City, discussing terms of loan deal as @_pauljoyce reports.”

Despite struggling for minutes under Guardiola, the Manchester City boss continued to speak positively about the player. In February, following an FA Cup win over Leyton Orient, Guardiola said: “I want much more. This is the level I would like to see from Jack but it has not been like that.

“Every club brings in new players every season. We don’t have the squad that won the Treble or the 100 points. We have maybe three, four, five, six players - no more than that. No new contracts make the players better. It’s the competition on the pitch and in the locker room, that makes the players better. They have to feel it and they have to fight with Savinho, Doku and Phil can play there as well.

“He accepts it’s never against him. Accept the challenge and prove your best. I saw a glimpse, I am going to rebel and show the manager how wrong he is. That’s the point, I love that. It’s about performance to deliver assists and goals for the people up front.”

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that the club is struggling to get transfer deals over the line this summer as a result of PSR regulations, in a revelation which may come as a boost to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs and the Magpies are being increasingly credited with transfer interest in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who has been transfer listed at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Joao Pedro from Brighton and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

Enzo Maresca is open to letting Jackson leave, despite the player making 37 appearances across all competitions last season and scoring 13 goals. The 24-year-old joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for a reported £32 million. The Express claims that the London outfit would be willing to part ways with the striker for £50 million this summer.

Chelsea open to £50m Jackson departure

Maresca has said: “When the transfer window is open, unfortunately or fortunately, anything can happen. This also involves Nico’s situation. At the moment we also had two strikers arrive, Joao [Pedro] and Liam [Delap]. So we will see what happens.”

Jackson was left out of the Chelsea friendly against Bayer Leverkusen as uncertainty builds around his future and The Standard claims that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have both ‘registered interest’ in the talisman.

Spurs are said to be ‘fans’ of Jackson but would only sanction a move should Richarlison leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Brazil international, who struggled for consistent game time amid injury problems last season, has turned down moves to Saudi Arabia during this window.

Thomas Frank has already seen the club spend £55 million on West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus since his arrival but confirmation that Son Heung-min has left the club leaves Spurs in the market for more attacking acquisitions.

Eddie Howe drops Newcastle United transfer revelation

Newcastle United are also in need of added goalpower and set to rival Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of Jackson. Callum Wilson left St James’ Park as a free agent this summer, since joining West Ham, and there are big question marks over the future of star man Alexander Isak.

However, Spurs are favourites to be able to outbid Newcastle United with fresh quotes from Howe revealing that the Tyneside outfit has been beleaguered by financial regulations. Over the weekend, he said: "We're controlled by PSR. That's still limiting what we can do and that's the reality.

"I've said many times, we're not the highest payers in the league. We're far from it and that is sometimes reflected in the choices players make. I don't think there's many players who have come here and haven't benefited from the experience Newcastle can give you.

"Playing in front of these supporters, that's an absolute privilege and an honour that's never lost on me. It's a special place to be. Some players have a different choice. Finances play a part in that."

Tottenham are about to miss the opportunity to temporarily replace James Maddison at a reduced cost. Thomas Frank has lost Maddison for much of the season, if not all of it, with the England international rupturing his ACL and requiring surgery that will signal the start of at least eight months of recovery.

It’s a crushing blow for Tottenham, with Maddison one of their most dangerous players, while he is also a leader on and off the pitch. But injuries are a reality of football, and Frank must now concentrate on replacing Maddison, at least on a temporary basis, and that kind of player is never going to come cheap.

Manchester City starlet James McAtee has been linked, although he will reportedly cost more than £40million this summer, with City well aware of his talent and potential. Another player City are looking to offload is Jack Grealish, who struggled for game time at the Etihad Stadium last season.

Grealish would be a well-suited replacement for Maddison, and he looks to be available on loan, which makes it a perfect deal for Spurs. Ultimately, Frank only needs a replacement until Maddison is back, and with Tottenham likely seeing Lucas Bergval as a long-term replacement, £40million would be a lot to spend on a temporary replacement.

Grealish would be available for a loan fee and without the commitment of a permanent deal, but according to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are now stepping up their efforts to get a deal done. He wrote on X: “Everton keep advancing in talks for Jack Grealish as priority target. The player has opened doors to the move and negotiations are underway. Everton and Man City, discussing terms of loan deal as @_pauljoyce reports.”

The writing was on the wall for Grealish at City after he was left out of the club’s final game last season. Guardiola said when asked: “It was selection. The last two months, month and a half there were five or six players at home every time and this time I decided for these guys. No more than that.

"Of course Jack has to play. He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it. With us or another place. It's a question for Jack, his agent and the club."

Grealish will have next summer’s FIFA World Cup at the forefront of his mind, and he will be desperate to be included in England’s squad, something he is at serious risk of missing out on by not playing with City. He will likely get regular game time at an ever-improving Everton side, and he will go there with a real point to prove to Thomas Tuchel.

That’s something Tottenham should be interested in benefiting from as they look to replace the loss of Maddison’s creativity. It’s not too late, but Spurs do not look as though they are actively looking to get involved in a deal for the England international.

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a deal for a new attacking midfielder after James Maddison’s devastating injury blow.

The Spurs midfielder requires surgery after rupturing his ACL in a pre-season clash with Newcastle United in South Korea and is expected to be sidelined for the majority of the campaign. It is a tough blow for Tottenham but one that feels particularly cruel on Maddison less than 12 months out from the FIFA World Cup in Canada, United States and Mexico.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a replacement for Maddison is something Spurs are now on the market for as they look to have enough squad depth to challenge in the Premier League and Champions League.

Spurs lost 4-0 to Bayern Munich on Thursday and have work to do to catch up with the European elite. They finished 17th in the Premier League last season and significant improvement is expected after Ange Postecoglou was sacked, despite winning the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder search

Writing in his Give Me Sport newsletter, Romano was asked whether Spurs would sign a replacement for Maddison and said: "Yes, it's likely. They are calling around to explore the market."

Spurs had looked to be getting a deal done for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White after activating a £60m release clause in his contract. However, Forest threatened legal action as they claimed the price of the clause had been leaked when it was supposed to remain a secret. Gibbs-White has since signed a new deal at the City Ground.

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has been linked while other reports have claimed a bid has already been submitted and rejected for Como star Nico Paz. Spurs offered £35m for the player but Como will not start discussions below £52m, as they value the player at around £60m.

Spurs get their competitive campaign underway against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday before opening their Premier League campaign at home to newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday, August 16.

Thomas Frank reflects on James Maddison injury

Addressing Maddison’s injury, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: “I think it’s disappointing but also devastating for me and mainly for Madders that he’s out of the team.

“We will miss him and no doubt he will miss playing football.”

And looking ahead to Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final, Frank said: “We will 100 per cent be ready for that game, I’m not in doubt about that.

“There are six days ahead, we have a normal week for the first time in the last two weeks so with everything – just getting down, less travel, energise them (the players), three or four good sessions – then we will be ready against PSG.”

Spurs have also been linked with a move for Eberechi Eze this summer but the Crystal Palace man has also been the subject of interest from Arsenal. It is not clear how much a deal for the player will cost as his £68m release clause has now expired.

Tottenham Hotspur have no more friendly games left on their pre-season schedule after ending their preparations with a 4-0 defeat at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Thursday night.

Spurs head to Italy next week to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final at the Stadio Friuli in Udine. Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final to qualify for the game while PSG battered Inter Milan 5-0 to win the Champions League for the first time in their history to earn their spot.

Thomas Frank has strengthened his side ahead of the new season but there is still room for more additions at the club and the need for new players has been heightened by James Maddison’s injury.

The former Leicester City man has ruptured his ACL and requires surgery that will rule him out for the majority of the season. And Frank is said to have held direct talks with one potential replacement.

Thomas Frank holds ‘direct talks’ with Harvey Elliott

One player on Spurs’ radar is Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott. The Reds player was an effective impact substitute for Arne Slot last term but with the Anfield club signing the likes of Florian Wirtz, the midfielder’s role at Anfield could be further diminished.

Football Transfers reports Spurs are ‘making significant progress’ in their pursuit of Elliott with Frank speaking directly to the player to pitch his vision to the England Under-21 international.

The Reds, according to an earlier report from The Athletic, value Elliott at £40m this summer but will demand a fee in the region of £50m if interested clubs do not agree to a buyback clause with the Merseyside club.

RB Leipzig are also interested in Elliott and have reportedly held talks with the player this week, who appears keen to secure his next club before the competitive campaign gets underway. Spurs can offer Elliott Champions League football while Leipzig missed out on the competition.

The Premier League is also familiar to Elliott, and a switch to North London would be a less significant change in terms of location compared to Leipzig.

What Harvey Elliott has said on Liverpool future amid Tottenham interest

Addressing his future, Elliott - who has been branded as a special talent by ex-Liverpool midfielder Neil Mellor - said recently: “If I had it my way I would be here [at Liverpool] for the rest of my career, it's as simple as that.

“ I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what's best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to get in the World Cup squad.

“I want to keep being successful as a player. It's something I still need to review. I need to have a talk with everyone and review the situation. we have many new players who have come in so whether it blocks the path for me I'm not sure. It's something I need to have a look at and decide.”

It feels like the proper start of a new era for Tottenham Hotspur with a new manager in charge and the first time in a decade where a familiar face won’t be in the starting XI.

For 10 years, Spurs have been able to rely on Son Heung-min or Harry Kane to make a difference, however, Thomas Frank needs to find a new hero to help pull his team through when the going gets tough.

Mohammed Kudus will add balance on the right wing, however, the report of a bid for Rodrygo at Real Madrid is the sort to get fans excited. With James Maddison expected to be injured for the long term though, Daniel Levy will need to loosen the purse strings like never before.

Tottenham face Burnley with new boys already up against it

A good start would be to hijack Arsenal’s move for Eberechi Eze, not only would he cover Maddison in the short term, but he could be the long-term creative hub for Spurs attack too. With his £68m transfer release clause expiring though, Crystal Palace might be looking for a price war.

What makes things easier, is the Europa League win secured by Ange Postecoglou gives the recruitment team the carrot of Champions League football to dangle in front of prospective targets.

Spurs have mixed fortunes on the opening day but will be encouraged by having Burnley up first at home. The newly-promoted side will be led by former Tottenham skipper Scott Parker who led his team to several defensive records in the Championship last season.

Being solid at the back is a pre-requisite for staying in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see how their form translates. The loss of James Trafford between the sticks isn’t going to help their cause though.

How Spurs have performed in the last five seasons on matchday 1

The last two years have seen draws away from home with their only wins in the last five seasons coming at home. In six seasons, Frank will be the fifth different manager in the dugout for the opening game. All other managers have since left and either won trophies or over-achieved, maybe the problem wasn’t the managers after all.

Mixed fortunes, but can Spurs start a new era with a positive opening day?

Leicester 1 – 1 Tottenham

Brentford 2 – 2 Tottenham

Tottenham 4 – 1 Southampton

Tottenham 1 – 0 Man City
