Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly holding an ‘emergency meeting’ on Thursday to assess Thomas Frank’s future at the club following a 3-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

The Cherries bagged a 95th minute winner through Antoine Semenyo in a fairytale goodbye for the winger and that defeat made it just two wins in Spurs’ last 12 matches. Tottenham Hotspur sit 14th in the Premier League after 21 outings this term.

Frank’s fractured relationship with Spurs supporters continues and wasn’t helped by an image of the manager drinking from an Arsenal branded cup prior to kick-off. Speaking about that gaffe after the match, the former Brentford boss said: "I definitely did not notice it. It would be completely stupid of me to take it if I knew.

"It's a little bit sad in football that I need to be asked about it. I would never do something that stupid. I think we're definitely going in the wrong direction if we need to worry about me having a cup with a logo of another club."

It’s believed that Frank was handed the cup, left at the Vitality Stadium by recent visitors Arsenal, by a member of staff. However, combined with the result, it puts even more pressure on the Spurs manager. LondonWorld looks at the current frontrunners who could replace Frank, should he be given his marching orders.

Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is currently out of contract at the end of the season. The Austrian, who won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Eagles last year, is yet to sign a new deal.

Glasner has been outspoken with criticism over a lack of backing from the Crystal Palace board in recent transfer windows, seeing key first team players such as Eberechi Eze leave Selhurst Park. The 51-year-old has earned plaudits for his work in South London and is one of the first names to be linked with managerial vacancies - Manchester United also said to be courting the boss.

Marco Silva

Marco Silva is another Premier League manager who has quietly, but impressively, gone about his business in London. The Fulham head coach has been at Craven Cottage since 2021, taking the club from the Championship to an established Premier League side.

The Portuguese boss is also out of contract come the end of the 2025/26 campaign and is yet to agree a new deal. In November, it had been reported that Fulham offered the manager a new contract but Silva is another who has shared frustrations with the lack of budget and backing available to him.

Jurgen Klopp

Perhaps the most eye-catching of names to be touted as a frontrunner for the Tottenham Hotspur job at this early stage is former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German, who won the Premier League and two Champions League titles at Anfield, has not been in the dugout since leaving the club in 2024.

Klopp has kept busy by working as the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH but is still just 58 years old, making a return to management at some point in the future a real possibility. That said, the ex Liverpool boss had promised the Anfield faithful never to manager a Premier League rival in the future.

Enzo Maresca

Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day after a falling out with the chiefs at Stamford Bridge. The Italian enjoyed a successful season and a half at Stamford Bridge, winning the Conference League, the Club World Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.

The role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would likely allow the 45-year-old more of a say on the direction of the club than at Chelsea but an appointment this month would be a rapid return to management for Maresca. It would, however, allow the former Leicester City boss to remain settled in London.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to lack spark under Thomas Frank in the Premier League with back to back draws against Brentford and Sunderland proving that fresh blood is needed in the January transfer window.

Luckily for Frank, the board is expected to invest and be one of the busier top flight sides. That’s led to no shortage of rumours with the attacking positions emerging as a priority.

LondonWorld looks at the latest rumours out there this week to see what a dream starting XI for Spurs could look like come the end of the window.

Goalkeeper - Andriy Lunin

Defenders - Souza, Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Djed Spence

Guglielmo Vicario has been error prone at times this season and come under criticism for some of his performances in between the sticks. TuttoSport have claimed that Inter Milan are monitoring a potential move for the Italian, who is supposedly set to change agents in a head-turning decision given rumours.

Should Vicario leave, then TEAMtalk report that Spurs could move for Real Madrid man Andriy Lunin, who could be allowed to leave the Bernabeu given that he is struggling for game time with Thibaut Courtois preferred. Nottingham Forest and Brighton are also linked, with it touted that a Premier League switch would appeal to the player.

There’s perhaps a swap deal that could be done with murmurings that Real Madrid are interested in Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro, who has shared his frustrations with the Spurs fanbase this term. The North London club are ‘in talks’ with Brazilian outfit Santos over a move for right-back Souza this month after an £8 million bid was rejected, as per The Standard.

Midfielders - Rodrigo Bentancur, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall

Forwards - Yan Diomande, Jorgen Strand Larsen, Mathys Tel

Thomas Frank isn’t short of options in centre-midfield, it’s just whether or not the quality available is good enough to get Spurs where they want to be. The former Brentford boss isn’t helped by the absence of James Maddison and the need to rely on youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, who are both still developing.

There is expected to be investment in the forward line, especially after Mohammed Kudus’ injury was reported to be worse than first feared. Brennan Johnson has already left for Crystal Palace, which opens up some space on the wage bill.

Fabrizio Romano claims that RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is driving interested Premier League clubs ‘crazy’ given his potential and Spurs are said to be following that potential deal. They would face competition from Manchester United.

Dominic Solanke is supposed to be back from his injury soon, but Spurs fans have heard all that before. A reliable centre forward is still missing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Chronicle Live claim that the London outfit could rival Newcastle United over a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Nottingham Forest are also linked with a £40 million price tag touted by Football Insider.

Tottenham need some help in the January transfer window with Thomas Frank coming under increasing pressure after a run of disappointing results.

The Spurs boss would probably have taken being just five points off the Champions League places at the beginning of the season, but poor performances see his team sitting a lowly 13th in the table in what is a congested Premier League.

A new signing or two would help to boost the feeling amongst the support, however, it looks like the former Brentford manager could be facing a repeat of what was a frustrating summer.

Tottenham face fight for Michael Kayode

Familiarity helps in football and Frank’s knowledge of his old players should give him an advantage when it comes to recruitment. In particular, Spurs have been linked with Michael Kayode, who Brentford had on loan last season with an option to buy clause that they didn’t take much persuading to pay. The long throwing right-back has caught the eye of several clubs with TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey claiming that Spurs face some serious opposition for the 21-year old’s signature: “We can reveal that Bayern Munich, along with Juventus and Inter Milan, are keeping close tabs on his progress.

“However, interest is emerging and one club who have been watching his progress closely this season are Man City. Man City are in the market for a new right-back, but are likely looking at a summer arrival. As we have consistently reported, they are huge fans of Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento, but they are doing a huge amount of work on other options, and one of those is Kayode.

“Interestingly, we are informed that Newcastle are one of those who are also keeping tabs on Kayode – the Magpies are one of the clubs that were watching him during his time at Fiorentina. Likewise, Tottenham also have a historical interest in Kayode, and few know him better than Spurs head coach Thomas Frank, who was Brentford boss when he arrived in England.”

How big a fan of Kayode is Frank?

Frank is a big fan of Kayode who is defensively strong as well as providing a powerful attacking option too. The modern full-back needs to be capable of doing both and Italy Under-21 international is adept at either end of the park.

Speaking when he signed, Frank said via Brentford’s media team: “I really like him and I’m very happy that we managed to sign him to give us a little bit more depth in the full-back positions.

“He’s very talented and is a fantastic physical package. He’s got good ability going forward and is very good defensively.”

Spurs haven’t had a problem identifying players who could improve them. Antoine Semenyo has long been linked, however, he is on his way to Man City in a package that is probably more than Spurs would want to pay, it could be a similar story for Kayode unless the recruitment team is more decisive.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Yang Min-hyeok has had a busy Tuesday in the January transfer window, having been recalled from his loan spell at Portsmouth and a deal already agreed to send him out to promotion-chasing Coventry City.

The highly-rated 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs but was part of the pre-season preparations under Thomas Frank. Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal to sign the teenager in July 2024 with the player only arriving in the UK in January 2025.

Yang spent the back end of last season on loan with QPR in the Championship and then headed out to Portsmouth for this season. The forward has made 15 second tier appearances for Pompey but struggled to nail down a role in the starting XI.

Tottenham Hotspur recall Yang-min Hyeok

The South Korean did score against Watford and Middlesbrough in October, as well as against Charlton Athletic at the end of December. That goal against the Addicks was a 98th minute winner in a 2-1 victory, with Portsmouth having conceded just two minutes prior in injury time.

It was the kind of moment that Yang proved himself capable of in the K-League. Rating his performance from the bench an 8/10 in that match, our sister site The News wrote: “Was limited with opportunities when he came but was bright on the left wing. Hero at the death with a brilliant last-minute effort to claim the winner for the Blues.”

It’s been reported that Spurs were not happy with the lack of game time for Yang at Fratton Park, hence the recall. He is now set to join Frank Lampard’s promotion push at Coventry City, where more minutes have been promised.

Coventry City to sign Real Madrid linked winger

The Sky Blues have taken the Championship by storm this season and sit top of the table, six points clear of Middlesbrough in second place. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Yang Min-hyeok, set to join Coventry on loan from Tottenham as deal has been agreed today.”

Real Madrid had even been credited with interest in the winger in recent weeks, speculation which Pompey boss John Mousinho acknowledged. Speaking last month, prior to the recall, Mousinho said: “I’ve heard the story [about Real Madrid], but there’s nothing I have heard from Tottenham or Real Madrid.

“I think Min-hyeok will be here for the rest of the season. Spurs have a recall, as most of these loan contracts. Spurs have a recall if they want to recall him. I think he’s been a really bright spark in a lot of the performances we’ve had, particularly in the early part of the season.

“At times you have probably seen what you can sometimes expect from young players, but, as a 19-year-old coming into a struggling side, he has done very well. He will be staying until the end of the season.”

Former Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason is once again available in the job market having been sacked by Championship side West Brom on Tuesday morning.

The Baggies suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday, their 10th in a row away from the Hawthorns. That left West Brom 18th in the table and 10 points off the play-off places.

Mason’s last win with the side came over London outfit QPR in the Midlands on December 29. The 34-year-old left his role among the Tottenham Hotspur coaching staff to take charge at West Brom last summer.

Ryan Mason sacked by West Brom

The former midfielder had signed a three-year deal with the second tier side but has struggled to meet the brief of challenging for promotion. Mason had won three of his first four Championship matches but only managed six more wins in 22 outings since then.

A West Brom statement read: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with men’s first team Head Coach Ryan Mason. Assistant Head Coach Nigel Gibbs and First Team Coach/Head of Performance Sam Pooley have also departed The Hawthorns.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan, Nigel and Sam for their efforts and wishes all three the very best for the future. First Team Coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis until a new staff is appointed. The process of recruiting a new men’s first team Head Coach and staff is under way.”

Ex Spurs midfielder’s two interim Tottenham Hotspur stints

Mason made 70 appearances for Spurs as a player and eventually joined the coaching staff, taking interim charge of the first team in 2021 and 2023. His first stint came following the sacking of Jose Mourinho and the second was while Antonio Conte dealt with health issues.

During his first stint, Mason became the youngest Premier League manager at 29 years old and helped the team secure Conference League football, finishing above Arsenal. The coach’s 2023 period included a famous comeback to draw 2-2 with Manchester United.

Speaking after that game, Mason said: "Big character, big personalities, stuck together, kept believing and acted as a team throughout the whole game. That pleases me after what happened at the weekend because we probably didn't have that as a group.

"And off the back of how the first half went in terms of the scoreline, to go out at half time and stick together, fight for each other and really got our fans involved, I thought they helped us massively, and it's pleasing. It proves a lot to me what I already thought about this group but to see that on the pitch is a good feeling."

Thomas Frank remains under pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but is backed by the board for now with investment coming in the January window. Recent draws against Brentford and Sunderland have lacked the type of character that Mason found in the squad two years ago.

Real Madrid could offer Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro a way out of North London this month with reports of a potential head-turning bid from the Spanish capital.

The 26-year-old remains one of the most important Spurs players for Thomas Frank, featuring in every Premier League match so far this season. However, the defender has made unwanted headlines since the departure of Ange Postecoglou.

Porro was the first Tottenham Hotspur player to post a message online after the former Australian manager was sacked, thanking him for the personal mentoring and delivering ‘one of the greatest moments in the club’s history’.

Pedro Porro frustrated with Tottenham Hotspur supporters

Spurs have struggled for form under Frank and Porro has hit back at criticism aimed at the players. After the 2-1 defeat to Fulham, Porro wrote on Instagram: “Football is emotions. In football, as in life, there can always be mistakes, what I will not tolerate is hearing disrespect from the fans to my teammates, hence my frustration at the end of the game.”

Should the defender be plotting a fresh start, then that could come with Real Madrid. TeamTALK cite reports from Madrid Universal claiming that Los Blancos are ‘weighing up’ a swoop for Porro.

It’s believed that the Spaniard could be viewed as competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The former Liverpool man has been managing a hamstring injury with Carvajal not having played since October having undergone a knee operation.

Martin O’Neill tells Porro to ‘get a grip’

Tottenham Hotspur paid £40 million to sign Porro from Sporting in 2023 following a loan spell in the UK. He’s gone on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and registering 24 assists.

Porro was slammed by former Premier League boss Martin O’Neill for his comments about Spurs fans earlier this season. Speaking to talkSPORT, O’Neill said: “That’s a total ingratiation to the fans of himself to the fans that’s what that is.

“I’ll tell you something now, I can imagine these things existing sometimes when Brian Clough [was managing]. And I have been hopeless in a game and he has just told me I’ve been hopeless in a match and then me going outside and going on social media and saying the fans deserve better than that.

“No, they deserve better from your performances (Porro) mate and you get a grip of yourself. I hope he's including himself in that group of players who didn't play so well...players, they’ll do your brain in!”

Tottenham Hotspur saw three points drop to one in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday afternoon, as Thomas Frank’s struggles in front of a home crowd continue.

The former Brentford boss has struggled to find consistency since moving to North London but is expected to be backed with transfer funds during the window this month. That revelation came even before the club pocketed £35 million for the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace.

While Johnson was somewhat of a bit-part player under Frank, the forward had picked up four goals and played 912 minutes for Spurs. With the London outfit struggling for attacking output, the need for incomings is evident.

RB Leipzig winger on Tottenham Hotspur ‘radar’

talkSPORT report that Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who is ‘on the radar’ of the club. The German outfit reportedly do not want to sell the 19-year-old in the middle of the season but it is a deal that a rival could look to broker.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also namechecked as interested parties. Any move this month would come with the added complication that Diomande is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations.

RB Leipzig are said to want £87 million for a sale midway through the season but clubs such as Spurs believe that a £52 million offer would be enough to sway the Bundesliga club. Diomande has registered seven goals and four assists in all competitions this season and only joined Leipzig from Leganes last summer.

Spurs see £8m defender bid rejected

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are clearly also looking to strengthen at the back with The Athletic reporting that Santos have rejected an £8 million bid from the club for left-back Souza.

The full-back is just 19 years old but could be an important signing for the club with Frank currently deploying the right-footed Djed Spence, who struggled against Brentford on New Year’s Day, in that position. Destiny Udogie is currently out injured.

However, Santos are said to believe in the potential of the youngster and are not wanting to engage in talks over a sale right now. Souza does have a release clause of around £87 million in his contract, only applicable to clubs overseas, which gives the Brazilian side a strong negotiating power.

Souza made 24 appearances for Santos in the league last season, helping the club avoid relegation, and is also capped at Brazil under-17 level.

Tottenham are said to be considering loaning out one of their first-team stars as Thomas Frank continues to shape his squad in the January transfer window. Frank decided to axe Brennan Johnson within days of the window opening, with Spurs striking a £35million deal with Crystal Palace and taking a loss of around £13million on their 2023 investment.

Spurs are expected to add attacking reinforcements, and it seems the attacking exits won’t end with Johnson. According to a fresh report, Tottenham are now looking to send one of their forwards out on loan.

Mathys Tel has struggled for game time under Frank this season, and he was even left out of the Champions League squad early in the season. Tel has made 15 appearances across all competitions, but he has only started three Premier League games.

After Tel scored earlier in the season, Frank was complimentary of the winger, saying: “I'm so happy. I got emotional almost after the game because he's a young man who has a strong character and trains well every day.

“Even though he hasn’t played as much, and then I play him as a striker - crazy thoughts by the Head Coach, because maybe he’s better to the left, he can also play there, of course… he’s not involved in the Champions League squad, he just came back.

“The way he scored against West Ham was solid, good. But that’s one game, then the next one, Doncaster, better, arriving in the right areas, yes, he didn't score, but the first thing is to arrive and the link up play, work hard. Then the third game, get the goal, great finish, I know the little deflection, but it’s a great connection, arriving in the right areas, working hard. I’m just so happy, all the praise.”

Tel could depart

Despite some positive comments from Frank, it’s reported that Spurs are now listening to loan offers for Tel for the second half of the season. The winger was signed for more than £30million from Bayern Munich at the end of a loan deal last season, but at 20 years of age, it seems Spurs feel as though the player has more developing to do, and he needs regular football to do it.

Yeni Akit has reported that Galatasaray could be an option for Tel, reportedly liking how versatile Tel is. One would think Frank will want to see a player come in before any Tel exit is confirmed, given Johnson has already left.

Tottenham Hotspur are undoubtedly one of the clubs to look out for in this January transfer window, and the north London outfit have found their way into the headlines already as Thomas Frank looks to turn things around in his first campaign at the club.

Spurs have struggled for consistency in recent months and have found themselves dropping back into the bottom half of the table, sitting in 12th place ahead of a tough home clash with Sunderland on Sunday.

Former Brentford manager Frank could soon be under increasing pressure in north London if their league position does not change quickly, with the winter window coming at the perfect time to add his desired new faces to the squad.

Back-to-back clean sheets in London derbies at Crystal Palace and Frank’s former club the Bees have represented a solid step in the right direction, but more will be demanded particularly in front of their own supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they have won just twice in the league all season.

Tottenham make ‘concrete move’ for Brazilian starlet

According to reports by Sport Witness, Tottenham have made a ‘concrete move’ for Santos left-back Souza, who has also been a target for Chelsea and AC Milan and appears to be in high demand this winter.

The 19-year-old Brazilian has made 38 appearances for Santos since his 2024 debut and the Série A outfit have made a ‘clear demand’ of €17m (£14.8m) for the young starlet. Brazilian journalist Lucas Musetti reports that Spurs submitted an ‘official proposal’ in recent days but saw their ‘offer’ rejected, believed to be ‘well below’ the strict valuation Santos hold of the player.

Souza is under contract until 2028 and is thought to be a key part of the plans of head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda at Santos, and the club are in no rush to sell this January unless the right proposal is made for the young star. Both Chelsea and Milan have seen approaches ‘rejected’ in the past.

Spurs’ desire to secure major January business could, however, have been boosted by two early deals confirmed on Friday.

Spurs confirm Brennan Johnson sale amidst busy start to January

In one of the biggest pieces of business of the January transfer window thus far, Spurs confirmed the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace on Friday for £35m, a club-record transfer for the Eagles.

Johnson scored the winning goal in the Europa League final in May and was a key player under Ange Postecoglou but saw his first-team minutes significantly reduced under Thomas Frank and has now completed a permanent move to Selhurst Park.

The significant funds brought in from the sale of Johnson could go a long way to helping Spurs secure incomings this January, with a further move to sign Souza a possibility if the Lilywhites decide to increase their initial offer.

In addition, 21-year-old defender Kota Takai has joined Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for the remainder of the season, having not made a single appearance since signing for Spurs from Kawasaki Frontale in July.

The young Japanese struggled with injury in his early months in north London and was unable to secure any game-time under Thomas Frank on his return to fitness, only appearing on the substitutes’ bench once during the recent victory at Crystal Palace.

Takai will be given the opportunity for a fresh start in Germany, leaving a decision over his long-term future for next summer and opening up a spot in the Spurs squad in the meantime.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached a deal with Serie A outfit Fiorentina to send winger Manor Solomon on loan to the club for the second half of the season.

The 26-year-old hasn’t featured for Spurs since September 2023, a meniscus injury ending that season early for the Argentine after that. Solomon spent last season on loan at Leeds United, picking up 10 goals and 12 assists in the Championship.

The winger had been on loan at Villarreal this term but was struggling for regular minutes in La Liga. Solomon has picked up a goal and four assists in his 11 outings for the side.

Tottenham Hotspur agree new Manor Solomon loan

That loan agreement has been terminated by Tottenham Hotspur and Villarreal, which will allow Solomon to embark on a new experience with Fiorentina. The player has never featured in the Serie A thus far in his career.

Spurs signed Solomon on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 but the player only managed six appearances before that serious injury. Solomon did register a brace of assists in a 5-2 win over Burnley in the Premier League that season.

Providing the latest on Solomon’s loan switch, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote on New Year’s Eve: “EXCLUSIVE: Fiorentina reach verbal agreement to sign Manor Solomon, here we go! The winger is set to leave Villarreal with loan move to be interrupted and new transfer to Fiorentina from Tottenham. Deal agreed today.”

Thomas Frank on winger recruitment in January

The winger position is set to be a key area of focus for Tottenham Hotspur in January. While Solomon was never expected to be recalled and returned to Frank’s squad, his fresh departure comes at the same time as Brennan Johnson undergoes a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a reported £35 million move.

Spurs spent £55 million to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in the summer but Frank’s side continues to lack dynamism on the flanks. Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Brentford, Frank was asked about Johnson’s potential departure and his options out wide.

He said: “I think it’s fair to say that Lucas [Bergvall] and Xavi [Simons] are hopefully soon back with the team. They are attacking options and that’s some element, hopefully [Dominic] Solanke at one stage will also come back and help the team. Then that should be fine.

“We are in the market and we are looking for everything we can to see if we can improve the squad. It’s a difficult window and we need to be calm and take right decisions.”
