Tottenham are looking to secure a spot at the Europa League final in Bilbao on May 21. Spurs are in semi-final second leg action against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night, currently 3-1 up as they head to Northern Norway to play on a tricky artificial pitch. The North London side should be confident of advancing, but if they do, they will be met by scary flight prices for fans.

It has been a miserable campaign for Tottenham, who are still yet to surpass their record-low points tally in the Premier League, but they can still salvage the campaign by ending their trophy drought and qualifying for the Champions League in the process. Should they progress, they will likely face Manchester United in the final, with the Red Devils leading Athletic Club 3-0 heading into their second leg.

Speaking ahead of the second leg, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has said: “I think it's just approaching it in the same way we have in the rest of our campaign really. You've got to be really disciplined and organised whenever you're playing away in Europe and irrespective of the scoreline,

“I think all the lads have done well and right through the campaign, particularly through the knockout stages in the second legs, whatever we've needed to do, they've done it, within the confines of our game plan and being organised, whether that was when we had to beat AZ at home and it could have got nervy and the boys handed that really well. We had to go to Frankfurt and win and tough venue and imposing atmosphere and I again I think the lads handled it really well, so it'll be a similar sort of mindset tomorrow."

He added: "I think whenever you play away from home in Europe, it is always challenging. It is always tough because obviously the opposition have the normality of the conditions and the stadium and the crowd behind them. All those kind of things make it difficult. It is no different here. I think the fact it is a semi-final and such a big game irrespective it is always going to be a bit tight and tense throughout the whole game.

“I think it is just the nature of the competition you're in and being in a semi-final, whether it was at our place first or at our place second, it would have been the same kind of scenario of two teams who know there is a big prize at the end of getting to a final."

Airlines move to exploit fans

One airline has posted scandalous prices for their flights surrounding the 2025 Europa League final in Bilbao. Evidently cottoning on to the likely demand from Tottenham and Manchester United fans travelling from London, EasyJet are currently charging £1.676 for a return flight from Gatwick to Bilbao, leaving a day before the game, on May 20, and returning on May 22, the day after the game.

For context, the same route with Vueling in June would cost you just £67, leaving on a Tuesday and coming back on a Thursday. That’s a price difference of £1609. For further context, the longest possible flight from London is Santiago de Chile, covering 7,227 miles. That flight would cost you £944 for a return on the same dates as the trip to Bilbao, which is 556 miles.

Thankfully, there are alternative routes for Tottenham fans should they reach the final, including a direct ferry or taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone and making the 12-hour or so drive through France to Bilbao. But the airlines are clearly seeking to exploit fans making the trip to Northern Spain for the final.

Tottenham Hotspur have only been able to take 404 supporters to the Aspmyra Stadion on Thursday night to will the London outfit on to second leg victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-final.

Ange Postecoglou’s men go into the clash as strong favourites, having already secured a 3-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week. Hold onto that lead and Spurs will book themselves a place in the Europa League final later this month.

Either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao await the winners of the semi-final in Norway tonight as Postecoglou looks to salvage a hugely underwhelming Premier League campaign by getting his hands on a piece of major silverware. Despite the lead gained last week, the club are taking the trip to Norway seriously too.

Tottenham Hotspur plan surprise for away supporters

The Aspmyra Stadion has a capacity of just 8,270 and only 404 tickets from those seats have been allocated to Tottenham Hotspur. The club are clearly keen to make it a night to remember for those who have made the trip to the Arctic Circle.

Images circulating on social media platform X at Thursday lunchtime showed that staff from the club had been putting Spurs scarves on every seat in the away end. Despite its position geographically, it is predicted to be a comfortable seven degrees Celsius tonight with rainy spells.

Fans online praised Tottenham Hotspur for the act of generosity. One Spurs supporter wrote: “Engagement has been top-notch as of late with this Europa League knockout run. Gotta give credit where it's due, the club clearly shares fan sentiments about this and have been listening to us.”

Another added: “The club proving that it doesn’t take much to make fans happy. Feels like we’re being treated as fans rather then customers over the past few weeks.”

Tottenham Hotspur have faced criticism this season for a lack of ambition with the club prioritising the business side of life rather than performance on the pitch. Speaking on Sky Sports in February, pundit Jamie Redknapp said: "As long as they've got the American Football and they've got Beyonce in the summer, they're happy, the owners are happy. It looks like a business model that everyone can be happy with that can be successful.

"But does that breed a winning environment? No it does not because something is fundamentally wrong. They have tried to do both, but it has not worked and it has not worked the way Daniel Levy wants it to."

Ange Postecoglou praises Spurs resilience to criticism

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou spoke about the need for resilience this season in the face of criticism on Wednesday night as he previewed the Europa League semi-final second leg. He told the media: "Resilience is a very important commodity. Anyone who has success, in whatever field it is, has had to show resilience at some point. This notion that success is linear and it comes really easy, anyone who has had success in whatever field will know at some point they’ve had to deal with a lot of adversity.

“We’ve had to deal with a lot of adversity this year. Through that adversity they’ve never splintered or wavered belief in what we’re trying to do. We wouldn’t be sitting in this position if that wasn’t the case. It’s a testament to them. It helps in games like tomorrow because you’re going to have to deal with another challenge. If they can tap into the way they’ve dealt with every sort of stumble we’ve had this year, then they’ll find the strength they need to get the job done."

Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Chelsea have all been credited with ongoing transfer interest in Lille striker Jonathan David with the bagsman expected to complete a move to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the Ligue 1 outfit at the end of the season and is not expected to extend his deal after five years with Lille. David, and fellow out-of-contract teammate Angel Gomes, have both been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

A proven talent in Europe, having scored in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, the possibility of signing David is an attractive proposition for Spurs, the Hammers and the Blues. The player has bagged 25 goals in all competitions this season and picked up 12 assists.

Tottenham and West Ham face transfer competition from Premier League rivals

At the end of April, the BBC (via RMC Sport) claimed that Newcastle United, Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in signing David, who has also been touted as a potential option for Arsenal this summer. However, the emergence of fresh quotes suggests that David is not looking at the Premier League after all.

Given his contract situation, David will likely have the choice of whichever top European league he fancies and that might not be the Premier League. Instead, the Lille man could push for a move to La Liga. Le 10 Sport also claims that the player does not want to stay in Ligue 1 and will look for a new challenge.

As relayed by the Shields Gazette, David said: “Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. As for my future, I hope to grow, become a better player and play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can. Do you want any clues about my future?

“You will all know in due time, that is at the end of the season. I will not comment before then. First of all, I want to finish this season well, the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision will be made and announced.”

Jonathan David hints at transfer preference

Speaking to The Overlap, he added: “I think I can adapt to every league. Every league has its differences. The Premier League is a lot faster and more physical than all of the other leagues.

“For me, I grew up watching a lot of La Liga and for me, that would be my preferred league. That is the league that I enjoyed watching the most so one day I would like to play there. Will that happen? I don’t know. We’ll see what the future takes us.”

The Canada international has only played for two clubs in his life, spending two years at Gent in Belgium before making the move to Lille. He won Ligue 1 with Lille in 2021 and the Trophee des Champions in 2021.

David is finishing the season in fine form with two goals and two assists in his last three league outings. He has also plundered seven goals in 10 Champions League appearances this season since the Group Stage, scoring against sides including Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

QPR and West Brom have been linked with a move to offer Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason his first permanent managerial job this summer.

The R’s placed head coach Marti Cifuentes on ‘gardening leave’ before the end of the season while the Baggies parted ways with Tony Mowbray. Cifuentes could still return to his role at Loftus Road but the situation looks untenable after his representatives reportedly entered talks over the vacancy at the Hawthorns.

Mason is a name that has been regularly linked with Championship opportunities but he has not yet been tempted away from North London. He was reported to have entered talks with Belgian side Anderlecht over the opportunity of taking on the manager role in October 2024 but stayed put.

The 33-year-old is a product of the Spurs academy and spent eight years on the books with the club as a player before joining the coaching set-up in April 2018. Mason played 24 times in the Championship for Doncaster Rovers and Millwall, so would come with some second tier experience.

QPR and West Brom linked with move for Tottenham Hotspur coach

The former midfielder has taken temporary charge of Spurs on two separate occasions and is highly thought of at the Premier League club. The Sun reports that Mason ‘harbours ambitions to be a manager one day’ in a potential boost for QPR, West Brom and any other clubs courting the coach.

However, it is added that Spurs’ progress in the Europa League is currently scuppering progress in any potential negotiations. Winning that tournament is said to be the only thing on Mason’s mind at the moment, forcing Championship clubs to play a waiting game.

Tottenham Hotspur face Bodo/Glimt in the semi final second-leg on Thursday evening and go into that match with a 3-1 lead. Should Ange Postecoglou’s side be beaten in Norway, Mason could be available to listen to offers later this week.

Europa League impacting Ryan Mason negotiations

If Spurs progress to the final of the Europa League, Mason appears unlikely to enter discussions with any potential suitors until after the final. That will take place in Bilbao on May 21.

Mason was praised by former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier during his second spell as interim manager in 2023. After a tactical change from Mason helped the side beat Crystal Palace, Dier said: "It's something we're all well aware of and one that we needed for a long time. It's a good start for us and hopefully we can kick on for the final games now.

"It's not the easiest situation to come into [for Mason]. We've got a limited amount of games so it's hard for him to come in and completely change things and do it his own way. But there's been a clear message that we need to be as good as we can with the ball and tighten up without it. It's pretty basic but that's the way we've been training and working. Ryan's instilled that belief in us that we're able to do that."

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham could be beaten to the signing of England international Angel Gomes this summer by Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.

The 24-year-old is coming to the end of his contract with Lille and is not expected to sign a new deal with the club. Gomes, who made his Three Lions debut last year, had been widely reported to have his heart set on a return to the Premier League.

The midfielder is a product of the Manchester United youth academy but only ever made 10 first team appearances for the Red Devils before joining Lille in 2020. Gomes has worked hard on his game in France, playing 134 times for the side, and worked his way into an England call-up under Lee Carsley in August 2024.

Marseille make contract offer to England international

Spurs and West Ham had emerged as frontrunners to sign Gomes on a free transfer. Since those reports first surfaced, it had been claimed that the Hammers had already been dealt a fatal setback in their negotiations.

West Ham boss Graham Potter was reported to have made a personal call to Gomes amid fears that he was not interested in joining the club. Claret & Hugh claimed that attempt had ‘fallen on deaf ears’ with Spurs seemingly in pole position - Fulham and Crystal Palace were also named as interested clubs in that report.

However, it now appears that a return to the Premier League is far from guaranteed. A fresh report in French outlet L’Equipe suggests that Marseille are hell-bent on bringing Gomes to the south of France.

The outlet claims that Marseille, who could offer Gomes the chance of Champions League football depending on their Ligue 1 finish, are already ‘very active’ in brokering deals ahead of the summer transfer window. It’s claimed that the club has been in talks with Gomes ‘for weeks’ and have ‘accelerated’ negotiations by offering the player a contract.

Angel Gomes ‘aware’ of Spurs and West Ham transfer talk

Speaking about Gomes in September, following his call-up to the England squad, caretaker Three Lions boss Lee Carsley said: “Angel is someone who does it week-in, week-out for a team out in France. He is probably different to what we’ve seen in the past in terms of the central midfielder that is a little bit more physical, more robust.

“Angel is very technical, he controls the game with his skill and technique. He is very determined, has an excellent attitude, loves football and technically and tactically he is excellent.”

Addressing his future, as quoted by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Gomes said: "I'm aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I'm now completely focused on Lille. I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens. I'm focused on the present and not on negotiations."

One Tottenham star is already said to have given a green light for an exit this summer. Spurs are likely to have some big decisions to make this summer, with Ange Postecoglou being the biggest of them all.

Whether Tottenham win the Europa League or not, Tottenham must decide whether to stick or twist with Postecoglou after what has been a disastrous campaign. The North London club still haven’t surpassed their record-low points tally, and while they can still qualify for Europe and secure silverware along the way, Postecoglou still has to answer for what has been a historically bad league campaign.

The Spurs board will have to decide whether the punishment for that involves the Australian’s P45, but regardless, there is going to have to be significant recruitment and likely a handful of departures, given the poor performance this squad has managed this season - albeit with the caveat of disastrous luck with injuries.

One player who could leave is centre-back Cristian Romero, who would be a very high profile departure as one of the club’s most expensive players. Romero has arguably fallen short of expectations during his time at the club, with some fans arguing that he has saved the best of his application for international games.

Romero has also been critical of the Tottenham board, calling out the decision-makers at the club and largely because of their lack of investment. The defender is now being linked with an exit, and a report from Spain has claimed Romero has already given the green light to an exit. Journalist Rubén Uría has reported that Romero has agreed terms with Atletico Madrid on a deal lasting five years with the option of a further year.

But while the Argentine might be ‘thrilled’ at the possibility of joining Atleti, there have been no formal negotiations between the two clubs at this stage, according to the report. Fichajes report that Tottenham want £49.2million to sell Romero this summer, while Atletico are only said to be willing to pay £33.9million. Romero is under contract until 2027 as things stand, so Tottenham hold the cards in negotiations, although the defender pushing for a way out could complicate things.

Spurs should cut ties with Romero

It seems clear that Romero is not on board with Tottenham’s project, whatever that project may be. Can you blame him? That’s a subjective question, but the 27-year-old wants to win trophies, and Spurs don’t look like doing that consistently.

The Argentine is a high quality player, but whether he is an elite Premier League defender is another question. He has struggled with defensive discipline at times, and many have questioned his level of effort in certain games.

That’s all good enough evidence to sell a player if Tottenham can get at least £40million, and you can bet Daniel Levy will find a way to get a good fee, given his skills at the negotiation table. Whatever comes next for Spurs, they need a starting XI made up of players who are all in, and Romero does not fit into that. That is the bottom line.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham star Josh Onomah has been made a free agent following his release from League One outfit Blackpool this week.

The Tangerines confirmed their retained list on Monday evening with the 28-year-old one of the first team stars to be leaving the club on his contract’s expiry. Steve Bruce’s side finished ninth in the third tier this season, 11 points off the play-off zone.

Onomah joined Blackpool on a short term deal in October 2024 and extended his contract to last until the end of the season in January. The midfielder made just 15 League One appearances for the club, starting three matches. His only goal came in a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in one of those starts.

Josh Onomah released by League One club Blackpool

In a statement released by Blackpool along with the retained list, Bruce said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to all of the players for their contributions this season. This is always a difficult part of the job, but I wish all of the players leaving this summer the very best for their respective futures.

“Work is already well underway for the new season, and I am enthused by the plans we have in place for the summer and beyond. I look forward to us all working together over the coming months as we prepare for what we all hope will be a successful 2025/26 season at Bloomfield Road.”

The former Premier League star is a product of the Spurs academy and went on to make 32 appearances for the north London outfit. Onomah’s debut came in an FA Cup replay against Burnley in January 2015, which Spurs won 4-2 at White Hart Lane.

The player’s top flight debut came in November 2015 and his only goal for the club was scored against Gillingham in a 2016 League Cup match. In December 2015, the midfielder was labelled as ‘special’ by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Ex Tottenham and Fulham star labelled ‘special’ by Mauricio Pochettino

The Argentine was asked if Onomah could go on to represent England after breaking into the first team. He said: “Why not? It is impossible to set the limit for him as he is 18 and is very strong. His quality is amazing and he only needs to work hard and then he'll be fine.

“He is a special boy, a special player, because of his talent, his potential and his body. His body is powerful and he has quality in his feet. I don't know how he will develop.

“Sometimes you get an instinct about a player but I prefer to keep that inside. Football is always about input and feeling and sometimes you don't know why but you think this guy can be a top player. Maybe it is about knowledge about football as we have been in football all our life. I think we have a lot of talent here.”

Onomah eventually spent loan spells at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday before joining Fulham in 2019. He spent four years at Craven Cottage and played 76 times for the club, the most appearances he has made for a team.

The midfielder was part of the Championship winning team in 2022 and part of the Championship play-off winning side two years earlier in 2020. A short stint at Preston North End followed before his arrival at Blackpool last year.

Tottenham could be set to get their way over the Aston Villa fixture debacle as they push for a Europa League final spot. Spurs are currently preparing for their Europa League semi-final second leg with Bodo/Glimt, headed to Norway where they will attempt to protect a 3-1 lead on an artificial pitch.

If Ange Postecoglou’s men do come out on top, they will book a place in the Europa League final in Bilbao, facing either Manchester United or Athletic Club on May 21.

Given that possibility, Tottenham have been in discussions with the Premier League over the possibility of moving their May 18 Premier League fixture with Aston Villa. That game was due to take place just three days before the Europa League final having already been moved so that it could be included for Sky Sports broadcast.

Villa, who are battling to stay in the top five race, hoping for a Champions League spot, are said to be unhappy with the request, most likely because of the proximity to the fixture, which is now less than two weeks away. But Matt Law has now reported that fixture will indeed be moved, and likely to Friday, May 16. He tweeted: “Sounds like an announcement planned on this for today - my understanding is the match will be moved.”

That will upset Villa, who have reportedly been fighting against the idea, though while it is far from ideal for fans, Villa themselves warned that the fixture could moved if they got to the FA Cup final. A statement read at the time: “Aston Villa's Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur has been rescheduled. The club's final home game of the 2024/25 campaign is still slated for Sunday, May 18, kicking off at either 2.15pm or 7pm.

“The kick-off time will be confirmed if Villa are knocked out in the FA Cup semi-finals, while the match will be moved to a new date if Unai Emery's team reach the final. The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.”

The reality is that Villa would have been happy to move the fixture had it been in aid of an FA Cup final appearance, but they are not happy with the fact that it could be moved to aid Tottenham, who arguably should have a fair shot at winning the Europa League final by having more than two full days of rest, also having to travel to Bilbao in that time.

Their likely opponents in the final, should they get there, are Manchester United, and they play their Premier League game on Friday, May 16. The Premier League can give both teams equal rest by making the fixture adjustment, which will have been Tottenham’s argument during this process.

Naturally, though, there are logistical issues for fans when a game is moved in such close proximity, and the Premier League should, perhaps, have moved this fixture even on the off-chance one of these teams reached their respective finals, especially given there was twice the chance the fixture would have to be moved due to Villa being in the FA Cup semi-finals and Tottenham reaching the same stage of the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reported to have made a £13 million bid for Leicester City teenager Jake Evans with the striker thought to have a big future ahead of him.

The 16-year-old has made just two senior appearances for Leicester City but is highly thought of thanks to his progress in the club’s youth set up. Evans has enjoyed Premier League cameos against Brighton and Southampton in recent weeks and became the club’s third youngest ever player when making his debut against the Seagulls.

Spurs and Manchester United could face each other in the Europa League final later this month but are already locked in battle off the pitch. Fichajes claims that both sides are ready to pay €15 million for Evans with GiveMeSport suggesting that bids have already been sent to the King Power Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United target Leicester City starlet

Leicester City are claimed to be aware that they face a fight to hold onto the teenager and could look to cash in already with high fees already being touted for the prodigy. Evans is yet to score in the Premier League but does have 10 goals in 14 Premier League 2 games this term, despite going up against players significantly older than him.

Any Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United coup would surely be one for the future but Evans comes with plenty of backing. Speaking about the player in February, Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy said: “We have to be careful with our talents. Realistically, it’s very simple. When they’re ready and good enough and better than what we have, they’re going to have to play, because it’s the best for the football club.

“For Jake now, he’s adjusting to training with the first team, making very valuable minutes in the Under-21s. He’s picked up a little injury now so we need to look after him.

“Let’s hope he keeps developing and can train a lot more with us. But we have to also be careful. Little injuries like he has now, we have to assess him, we hope it’s not much. He’s a great prospect for the future and hopefully the near, near future.”

Jake Evans praised as ‘killer finisher’

Youth academy scout and analyst Ben Mattinson has also backed the striker to succeed. Taking to X in at the start of February, he wrote: “They’ve also called up 16y/o Jake Evans, also a very exciting prospect.

”Relentless forward and a killer finisher in front of goal. Interested to see how he develops and where he plays. Someone who in 4-4-2 days would’ve been a striker but might be more of an inside forward now.”

Tottenham Hotspur have had to rely on youth at times this season due to injuries. Will Lankshear, Alfie Dorrington and Brandon Austin have all made debuts this season while teenagers Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Mathys Tel have become first team regulars.

Tottenham Hotspur will be without the services of playmaker James Maddison for the second leg of the Europa League semi final against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.

The England international has picked up a knee injury and is not expected to play again this season. Maddison scored against the Norwegian side in the 3-1 win last week but limped off after 65 minutes.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had confirmed that the player would undergo a scan but remained coy when providing an update on that following the 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday afternoon. The BBC now claims that the outcome is not a positive one with Maddison out for the rest of the season.

James Maddison injury blow confirmed

The outlet reports that the extent of the problem will ‘be clarified in the next 48 hours’ but that Maddison ‘is expected to miss the final three weeks of the season’. Speaking on Sunday, Postecoglou had said: “It doesn’t look great. We’re waiting for further information. We’ll just wait and see, hopefully we’ll probably get some clarity tomorrow. Fair to say, it’s not looking promising but I’ll wait and see.”

The former Leicester City man has already made 45 appearances for the club this season, scoring 12 goals and picking up 11 assists. He has either scored or assisted in each of Spurs’ last four Europa League fixtures and will be a big miss in Norway on Thursday night.

Speaking about the player following Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Manchester United in February, pundit Micah Richards outlined the player’s importance to the side. He said: “I think he was brilliant today but I think he was helped by Man United’s shape. He is the main man, he’s coming back. Everyone’s talking about they need the senior players back. Maddison’s that player that can make the difference.”

Tottenham Hotspur star expected to miss rest of season

The injury means that Maddison will miss the Europa League final in Bilbao, should Spurs hold onto their lead over Bodo/Glimt and make it that far. That fixture is in the calendar for May 21.

Maddison will also watch the remaining Premier League matches of the campaign from the sidelines. Postecoglou’s side face Crystal Palace and Brighton at home with a trip to Aston Villa sandwiched between those two matches.

The midfielder recently came out and spoke in favour of under-pressure Postecoglou, who signed the player from Leicester City for £40 million in 2023. He said: "We're behind the manager, 100 per cent. I think he's a great man.

"He's the first person to tell you, I've heard it myself, that we've had a poor season, especially in the league. We've been very good in Europe, but the league season's probably been unacceptable, and we can all take a collective responsibility for that. But he's my manager, he's my gaffer, I respect him an awful amount.

"The narrative is something that we players try and keep away from because it's not healthy to read into what you lot are talking about - the manager's position. I just know that I come into work every day and see the lads listening, taking on the messages, how he wants to play and trying to do what's best for this club.

"We're in a very good position in Europe, where we can still have a special season under his management. So, I'll continue to do that until the day he isn't here. He's my manager and I respect him an awful amount, so that will continue."
