Tottenham are said to be interested in a deal to sign a current Premier League winger as they look to strengthen their ranks. Spurs are currently as low as 11th place in the Premier League, sitting five points off fifth place after their defeat to Chelsea last weekend.

Ange Postecoglou is now coming under pressure as the top four and top six threaten to pull away from his side. Spurs have struggled for consistency all season, and it seems as though they might need to strengthen further if they have ambitions of bridging the gap.

Tottenham have made some big attacking signings over recent years, with Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson the big investments, while Timo Werner has arrived on loan, and James Maddison’s big-money arrival can also be regarded as an attacking reinforcement, albeit he is a midfielder.

The reinforcements may not end there, though, with talk of interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbuemo. Mbuemo has been a hit with the Bees, scoring nine and assisting two across all competitions already this season.

The 25-year-old has been key to an impressive start to the season from Brentford, and he was equally valuable last season. The Cameroon international is said to be valued as highly as £50million, but according to The Boot Room, Spurs are interested in a deal.

It’s not clear how much Brentford would actually demand for a sale, but Mbuemo is under contract until 2026 with the West London club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year. That puts them in complete control of any negotiations, unless the forward pushes for a move, which seems unlikely given his current form and stature at the club,

Given the price of a deal, it’s likely any transfer would need to take place in the summer rather than January, with Brentford not likely to risk derailing their season. Though, even Brentford boss Frank himself has admitted Mbuemo is on his way to bigger and better things. He said recently: “He's added another layer this year. I'm convinced one day he'll play for a bigger club. I'd definitely buy him if I were at a bigger club. That said, he's very happy here."

Tottenham Hotspur fell short of a big result against Chelsea on Sunday after a 2-0 lead slipped through their grasp. Despite two goals inside 11 minutes to stun their London rivals, the Blues hit back to win 4-3 thanks to two goals from open play and two penalties.

Before they can think about returning to Premier League action on Sunday, Spurs will face Rangers in their next Europa League challenge. Ange Postecoglou is battling through a significant list of injuries and illnesses as he navigates this tricky season. We’ve taken a look at the latest fitness updates ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Ibrox on Thursday.

Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson was brought off against Chelsea but Postecoglou has confirmed that it is not an injury concern, he just ‘didn’t feel well’ during the game.

“He didn’t feel well at half-time. He wanted to give it a go but he just wasn’t feeling 100 percent. So I had to take him off,” the boss said after the match, suggesting the 23-year-old should be good to return at the next available chance.

Potential return date: December 12th (vs Rangers)

Micky van de Ven

Micky van de Ven was handed a start against Chelsea following his latest absence due to a hamstring injury back in October. Fans were concerned he had picked up another problem after requiring treatment on his leg and being taken off but Postceoglou has assured is was ‘always the plan’ to replace him before full-time.

“He didn’t feel anything significant. He just felt tightness but we were always going to take him off anyway.”

Potential return date: December 12th (vs Rangers)

Mikey Moore

Paul O Keefe has revealed that Mikey Moore will need more time to recover from illness. Posting on X on November 27th, he said Moore needs ‘rest’ and will still be out for another 3-4 weeks.

Potential return date: Late December

Richarlison

Richarlison remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa. Postecoglou is hopeful the Brazilian will be back in action in the new year but it seems he has been ruled out of any return in 2024.

Potential return date: January 2025

Cristian Romero

Frustrations re-emerged for Cristian Romero after he was brought off less than 15 minutes into the Chelsea clash. After returning from a toe injury, Romero is being assessed again but it is not the same problem this time, and there is no suggestion of an absence timeframe either.

“He felt something in his quad,” Postecoglou shared. “We just have to wait and see. It’s a totally different injury, it’s not like Romero re-injured his toe. It’s a totally different injury which could happen at any time.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Ben Davies

Postecoglou confirmed Ben Davies will be ‘out for a period time’ after picking up a hamstring injury but admitted they are still working on finding out the extent of the problem and how long it will keep him out for.

Potential return date: Unknown

Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario recently revealed that he had played for an hour against Manchester City with a broken ankle. The goalkeeper has since undergone surgery and is working on his recovery. Expected out for an extended amount of time, there has been no clear indication on when he will be back in action.

Potential return date: Unknown

Wilson Odobert

Tottenham’s summer signing has been out of action since September and a club update last month revealed he will be facing an extended period on the sidelines. After undergoing surgery on his hamstring, Wilson Odobert ‘will be monitored’ to determine when he is fit to return to training.

Ange Postecoglou will return to Glasgow this week as his Tottenham Hotspur side take on Rangers at Ibrox. The Spurs boss spent two years in charge of Celtic, winning five domestic trophies in that time, including two Scottish Premiership titles before being appointed in North London.

The Australian is under a bit of pressure at Spurs, following a 4-3 loss to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. It was a fourth-straight game without a win for the North London outfit, whose last victory came against Manchester City on November 23.

Tottenham’s last Europa League outing was a 2-2 draw with Italian side AS Roma, with former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels scoring a 91st minute equaliser for the Serie A outfit. Spurs have won three of their opening five games in the competition and sit ninth in the table, just one place behind Rangers who have a slightly better goal difference. Ahead of the game, there are a number of injury concerns for Tottenham to contend with as we round-up the latest from both camps.

Rangers injury news

Rangers injury list is not as lengthy as Tottenham's but they still do have some doubts, with at least one player out. Neraysho Kasanwirjo is sidelined for a few months while Oscar Cortes, Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence are training again. The former duo are more likely to feature against Spurs while Lawrence is working his way back to full fitness.

Last week, Rangers boss Philippe Clement said: “Neraysho Kasanwirjo won’t be available for the next couple of months, Tom Lawrence is training individually."

Tottenham Hotspur injury news

Cristian Romero lasted just 14 minutes against Chelsea before he “felt something in his quad.” The defender had only returned from a toe problem but is now facing more time out as Spurs wait to discover the extent of the issue. Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven also emerged with issues from the loss to Chelsea but Postecoglou was confident they were nothing to be concerned about. Johnson came off against Chelsea due to illness while Van de Ven felt “tightness” after he was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up.

Ben Davies picked up a hamstring problem against Bournemouth last week and is not expected to return against Rangers, with a full timeline on his return still unclear. Guglielmo Vicario, Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are all expected to remain out for the trip to Scotland.

Former Premier League and England defender Jamie Carragher believes that Ange Postecoglou will not last much longer at Tottenham Hotspur if he refuses to become more pragmatic on occasion.

Spurs threw away a 2-0 lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they lost 4-3 to London rivals Chelsea. Postecoglou has been criticised during his Tottenham tenure for being too one-dimensional with his style of play and it is something that Carragher feels he needs to change moving forward.

The ex-Liverpool defender did not call for a complete change of style but suggested that the state or nature of a game should result in a different way of playing in order to protect a lead. Sunday’s loss was not the first time this season that Tottenham had thrown a 2-0 lead away as they were also beaten 3-2 at Brighton after leading by two goals.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Carragher said: "Ange said how well they played. I can't imagine any Liverpool manager I played for - and we conceded four in a game - would say in the interview we played well. If you play this way you'll get the result like at Manchester City but you'd also get results like this one where you're 2-0 up. I've never got my head around managers saying we play a 'certain way and we will never change' - I think it started with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.

"This idea that wherever they play, they will play their way. But that was the best team I've ever seen. Pep Guardiola then had to change his Man City team who were winning the leagues every season, putting centre-backs at full-back. This idea that you can't change is alien to me. The game-state dictates how you play, not all the time but if you go away to a tough away ground you shouldn't play the same way as you do against a team at the bottom.

"There's this idea of playing a pure game and the Tottenham fans singing 'We've got our Tottenham back' but you won't win anything, you won't challenge. I wake up every morning hoping the sun is shining, so I can put some shorts and a T-shirt on but if it's raining, you put your coat on. You can't have this idea about playing one way, it won't work. If it doesn't change, he won't be here next season."

Chelsea star man Cole Palmer was among the goals again as the Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on Sunday, coming back from 2-0 down in dramatic fashion.

The England international bagged two penalties, making it three goals in less than a week having netted against Southampton in midweek too. Palmer now has 36 goals for the club in 62 outings and continues to find more and more influence.

Emerging as one of the best footballers on the planet, it's no surprise to hear of audacious transfer talk surrounding the 22-year-old. The latest this week comes from Spain with La Liga giants Real Madrid supposedly readying a nine-figure bid to try and lure Palmer away from the Premier League.

That's according to Fichajes, with the outlet claiming that Real Madrid view the former Manchester City man as a 'long-term investment' amid talk of a 'bombshell' transfer bid. There's no suggestion that Chelsea would hear out any bid for the talisman, with Enzo Maresca's side suddenly in a title chase.

Premier League legend slaps £150m price tag on Cole Palmer

Musing on the player's value in October, Premier League legend Graeme Souness wrote in the Daily Mail: "Chelsea paid £40 million for Palmer, but if Real Madrid come knocking next summer and he is still at the level he is showing, I would not be surprised if they got an offer of £150 million for him.

"He's a young man, so we're going early on this call, but if this is Palmer's level and he can be consistently this good, he's going to be a top man.

"He has got silky skills, athleticism and a fabulous football brain. There's simply nothing to dislike about him. He's 22. At that age, no-one ought to be that good. I like his temperament, too."

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur still linked with Ivan Toney

Chelsea were long linked with transfer interest in former Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer but, ultimately, nothing came from those rumours as the England international sealed a Deadline Day move to Saudi Arabia to join club Al-Ahli.

The 28-year-old was reportedly available for £100 million last January but a dip in form and contract standoff over the back end of the season saw the fee paid by Al-Ahli reduced to £40 million. Since making the move, Toney has scored eight times in 17 appearances but is now without a goal in five with Fichajes claiming that the player is struggling for 'motivation' in the Middle East. While in the Premier League, he bagged 36 goals in 85 matches.

Chelsea are named alongside Tottenham Hotspur as clubs that could offer the former Bees forward an immediate swap, despite Toney's contract at Al-Ahli running for another four seasons. It is added that any sale would have to be for more money than the Saudi club paid Brentford this summer, making a profit being a non-negotiable on any potential sale for the Saudi outfit.

The pressure is mounting on Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou as his gung-ho tactics in North London struggle to yield the results wanted by the club and supporters. A 4-3 home defeat to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon was the latest blow that has done the Aussie no favours.

Postecoglou was insistent that his side 'played well' as they threw away a 2-0 defeat to their London rivals, in what was a second loss in four days following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth. Spurs sit 11th in the Premier League ahead of the festive period, already seven points off the top four and with just one win in their last seven games across all competitions.

Speaking after that defeat to Chelsea, Postecoglou said: "It's a sore one. Painful. We started really well and then we lose Cristian Romero - nothing has run smoothly for us and we have to reshuffle before they get a goal.

"I thought we had big moments to get a third. Second-half was a ding-dong and we had a big chance with (Heung-Min) Son to swing the game our way. Then the two penalties weren't great on our behalf - we need more discipline in the box.

"We didn't play well against Bournemouth but we played well today. They're a good side. A top team. We got disrupted in key moments and the key moments decided the game.

"When we are playing our football we are tough to stop and we need to maintain our discipline. There was no need for them as the game was in the balance. When you play these top teams these momentum shifts can happen quickly."

Postecoglou has come under fire for his post-match comments with former Liverpool man and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher admitting that the manager's number could be up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Carragher slammed the Spurs head coach when analysing the game against Chelsea.

He said: "Ange said how well they played. I can't imagine any Liverpool manager I played for - and we conceded four in a game - would say in the interview we played well. If you play this way you'll get the result like at Manchester City but you'd also get results like this one where you're 2-0 up. I've never got my head around managers saying we play a 'certain way and we will never change'.

"There's this idea of playing a pure game and the Tottenham fans singing 'We've got our Tottenham back' but you won't win anything, you won't challenge.

LondonWorld looks at 10 managers the bookies believe could be brought in to replace Ange Postecoglou as the next Tottenham Hotspur manager, including familiar faces in ex Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United bosses.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou admitted that Cristian Romero’s injury is “hugely disappointing” after the centre-back lasted just 14 minutes against Chelsea after picking up a quad problem.

Romero and Micky van de Ven both returned to the starting line-up after spells out as Spurs threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Romero’s injury meant Van de Ven played longer than planned as he went down late in the game but Postecoglou played down any concerns. Brennan Johnson was also withdraw but he was feeling ill.

“Romero is just obviously hugely disappointing,” Postecoglou said afterwards. “He felt something in his quad. He trained really well. He wasn't the one I was worried about, to be honest, but it's just the way the season's going for us unfortunately. So we just have to wait and see. Brennan just didn't feel well. He didn't feel well at half-time, but he wanted to give it a go, but he just wasn't feeling 100 per cent, so I had to take him off. And then, well, the plan was always for Micky to play 60, 70 [minutes] today. Obviously, I thought Romero would be okay to play 90, but Mickey, probably 60,70. So we were always going take him off. He didn't feel anything significant. He just felt tightness, but we were always going to take him off anyway.”

On Romero, he continued: “It's a totally different injury, but also people I'm sure are aware of our situation. It's not like I've got a multitude of options there, so, you know, you've got to make these decisions. Both players trained and tried well, and they both wanted to help. So you make these decisions with all the best information. Like I said, it's not like Romero re-injured his toe, it's a totally different injury, which could happen at any time.”

Postecoglou was disappointed after with some of the decisions from the officials after Moises Caicedo caught Pape Sarr high on the shin but the Chelsea man was not even booked with VAR failing to intervene.

The Spurs boss said: “There’s a couple of decisions I thought today that definitely went against us. It almost feels like no-one is in control because everybody is scared to make a decision to overturn somebody else. Referees are scared to make decisions in case they get it wrong, VAR don’t want to intervene and I get that because you don’t want disruptions to the game. You just have to cop out. We worked awfully hard, but to give away two goals and you give away two penalties unnecessarily against a quality side anyway, you make things very difficult for yourself.”

The Premier League have announced that Anthony Taylor will officiate Sunday’s meeting between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea - over two years on from his last game in charge of the derby between the two London sides.

Taylor refereed the dramatic 2-2 draw between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge back in August 2022. It is a fixture that is remembered for a fierce post-match handshake between Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel, who were in charge of the respective clubs at the time.

Harry Kane scored an equaliser in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time but only after replays showed Cristian Romero had pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair. Taylor did not appear to get a good view of the incident while VAR neglected to recommend an on-field review. A year later, VAR official at the time Mike Dean admitted he did not correct the mistake to save Taylor from added “grief”.

"I missed the stupid hair pull at Chelsea versus Tottenham which was pathetic from my point of view," Dean told Simon Jordan's Up Front podcast. "It's one of them where if I had my time again, what would I do? I'd send Anthony [Taylor] to the screen. I think I knew if I did send him to the screen… he's cautioned both managers, he's had a hell of a game, it's been such a tough game end to end. I said to Anthony afterwards: 'I just didn't want to send you to the screen after what has gone on in the game.' I didn't want to send him up because he is a mate as well as a referee and I think I didn't want to send him up because I didn't want any more grief than he already had."

Earlier in the game, Chelsea were incensed that Taylor had not penalised Rodrigo Bentancur for a tackle on Kai Havertz, resulting in a melee that saw both managers booked. Chelsea fans set up a petition for Taylor to never take charge of another game involving the Blues, with it gaining over 150,000 online signatures. Taylor has taken charge of two Chelsea games this season, the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on the opening day as well as the hard-fought 1-0 away win at Bournemouth. He has been the man in the middle for just one Spurs game this season, as he officiated the 4-0 victory over Everton back in August.

Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will be Taylor’s assistants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while the fourth official is Lewis Smith. Jarred Gillet will be on VAR with Mark Scholes his assistant at Stockley Park. The fixture kicks off at 4.30pm.

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer felt Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke was “bossed” by Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday night.

The Cherries picked up a 1-0 victory with Huijsen scoring the only goal of the game as he ran to the back post to head home a corner unmarked on 17 minutes. The 19-year-old had a shaky moment early in the game as he made a mistake to allow Solanke a chance at goal but the Spurs striker was unable to take advantage of the opportunity.

That moment aside, Shearer was hugely impressed with how Solanke was limited by Huijsen. He said on Amazon Prime commentary: "He [Huijsen] has been absolutely fantastic tonight. I can't remember him losing the ball, other than that one in the first half. He has been faultless. He has bossed Solanke, controlled him."

Huijsen was named player of the match and said of the result: "We know it is difficult to come here. We know we make it difficult for the big teams, and the others as well really. It is a recall exciting win. I think every little boy dreams of playing in the Premier League and I am so happy to be playing in it and to have scored my first goal. It is definitely a special memory. A goosebumps moment. It is a special thing to be Bournemouth's youngest Premier League scorer and I hope to stay in the team now and carry on playing.

“[The goal] is all down to our trainer. We have scored a few set piece goals this season because of him. It was my job to finish it and I did, so that was great. We will work on that [scoring more goals], but as a team it was great. A good performance and a good win. We know Tottenham is also a very physical team so I think it was a great match up and a great match to watch for the fans watching at home and in the stadium. First of all we need to avoid relegation but I think we have a bit more in us. Who knows. Maybe we can get a Conference League place or something if we keep working and pushing like this."

Former Tottenham striker Les Ferdinand felt that Spurs lacked a threat as they had 12 shots compared to Bournemouth’s 21. He said: “Every time Bournemouth went forward, they looked like scoring. Tottenham didn't. There was no urgency, no physicality, didn't win any 50-50 tackles. We didn't know what Spurs would turn up and it wasn't this one the fans wanted.”

Ange Postecoglou expressed his frustration about his Tottenham Hotspur side consistently giving their rivals a “leg up” in games as Spurs slipped to their sixth defeat of the Premier League season.

The North London club lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Thursday night, in a result that saw the Cherries leapfrog Spurs in the table. Dean Huijsen scored the only goal of the game as he headed home from a corner after 17 minutes. Since beating Manchester City immediately after the international break, Spurs have drawn with Fulham and Roma along with their loss to Bournemouth.

Reflecting on the game, the former Celtic boss said: "We started well and conceded a really poor goal. It's a difficult place to come when giving the opposition the opportunity to play in the manner they want. It's disappointing. It's something we've done consistently and we always pay the price for it.

"We started the second half with more conviction. Always be a tough game here. Don't want to give the opposition a leg up. We've done that in other games this year and paid the price. It comes down to us as a collective being a lot more determined to control a game of football and not let the opposition take control."

Spurs defender Destiny Udogie expressed frustration over the nature of the defeat, as he said: "We came here to win and it didn't go that way. We have to stay together and focus on the next game. They played their game. It was a tough game. Big disappointment to concede a goal like this. It's not the best time for us with injuries but as a group we have to stick together."

Up next for Spurs is the visit of in-form Chelsea, who won 5-1 at Southampton on Wednesday and sit second in the table after losing just two of their opening 14 games.
