Tottenham Hotspur will find out where their Premier League campaign for the 2025/26 season will start on Wednesday morning.

It’s set to be a summer of upheaval in north London with Ange Postecoglou sacked despite Europa League triumph and Brentford manager Thomas Frank arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to begin a new era.

Since then, there’s been an onslaught of transfer rumours as well as the arrival of new coaching staff. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the Premier League fixture release.

When is Premier League fixture release day?

The Premier League confirmed that fixture release day for the 2025/26 campaign will be on Wednesday, June 18. The fixtures for the season ahead will be released on the Premier League website and on each club’s official channels at 9 am UK time.

The fixture calendar will give Tottenham Hotspur an idea of when they play each opponent home and away but the final day and time of each match will remain subject to change due to broadcast schedules.

How are Premier League fixtures arranged?

The Premier League website explains: “We start when we know the composition of each division, so after the last Football League playoff. We place each club in a pairing grid, which defines the dates they will be at home.

“For every date in the season, the fixture computer knows which clubs are at home and who are away and then it will mix them up randomly to determine the matches. In any five matches there should be a split of three home fixtures, two away or the other way around. A team will never have more than two home or away matches in a row, and, wherever possible, you will be home and away around FA Cup ties.

“A club will never start or finish the season with two home or two away matches because it would be unfair for a team to finish with two aways, Around the Christmas period, if you are at home on Boxing Day you will be away on New Year's Day or an equivalent date. We also try to maintain a Saturday home-away sequence throughout the season wherever possible. Most clubs will have a partner club with whom they cannot clash, such as Manchester United and Manchester City, or Liverpool and Everton. In London it gets a bit more complex and less obvious.”

Tottenham Hotspur opening day record

A trip to newly promoted Leicester City kicked off the Premier League season for Spurs last season. That fixture ended in a 1-1 draw with a Jamie Vardy second half goal cancelling out a first half strike from Pedro Porro.

It was a draw in 2023 too with Brentford holding Spurs to a 2-2 scoreline at the Gtech Community Stadium. The last time Tottenham Hotspur won an opening fixture was in 2022 when the north London club put four past Southampton to win 4-1.

Brentford have held advanced talks with set-piece coach Keith Andrews about becoming Thomas Frank’s replacement at the club, according to reports.

Frank has left the Gtech Community Stadium to join London rivals Tottenham Hotspur after Ange Postecoglou was sacked by the club despite guiding them to the Europa League and their first trophy in 17 years. However, Spurs’ domestic form proved the decisive factor in the Australian’s dismissal.

The Independent has reported the Bees are looking to move swiftly to replace Frank with 44-year-old Andrews “well regarded” by the club and he has already given the all clear to put together his coaching staff. Justin Cochrane was reportedly viewed as a leading contender to replace Frank but he has also left for Spurs.

Andrews is a former professional, having started his career with Wolves. He had spells with a number of clubs in the EFL. He spent four years at Blackburn Rovers, as well as two years with MK Dons while also playing for club on loan in the final season of his career.

Kieran McKenna was identified as a potential replacement for Frank but the Bees did not want to be stung by a departure to a big club again as they believed the Northern Irishman “has bigger aspirations within the Premier League.”

Bryan Mbeumo hails Thomas Frank

Another man who could be leaving Brentford this summer is forward Bryan Mbeumo. He has been the subject of interest from Manchester United but he has also been linked with Spurs following Frank’s move to North London. Mbeumo enjoyed his best Premier League season date in the 2024-25 campaign with 20 goals and seven assists in 38 games.

Speaking to Sky Sports from the paddock during the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix over the weekend, Mbeumo hailed the impact of Frank on his career. He said: "He's done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start [at Brentford] and he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player so much as well. I can only wish him all the best and I'm sure he's going to do well.

"He knows everything; he's really smart and knows what he wants to bring the team, how he wants them to play. He's been fantastic for Brentford."

What Thomas Frank said after leaving Brentford

Writing on the Brentford club website, Frank said of his departure: “The time has come for me to move on. But, even as I leave, I know I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford, not just at the football club but with the community and, of course, the incredible and loyal supporters.

“I want to extend my profound gratitude to the club for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams and for everyone involved who made the journey such a memorable one.

“For my family and I, it has been a privilege to be allowed to be part of such a special community - it’s an experience and adventure that we will cherish for life. So, thank you. Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved together, and our success is built on unity, spirit, courage and ambition at every level of the club and amongst the fans.

“Everybody has contributed, and every contribution has been invaluable. I am not just leaving a football club, I am saying goodbye to friends whose support through good and bad times I will carry with me always.”

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich following his short-term loan move to north London.

The 20-year-old arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the start of February with the club needing fresh blood to alleviate the pressure of an injury crisis. Tel went on to make 19 appearances for Spurs and was a prominent part of Ange Postecoglou’s work over the second half of the campaign, scoring three times and picking up one assist, along with helping the club to a Europa League win.

Tel did not play in the Europa League final and had to settle for a place on the bench but did feature five times for Spurs in their Europa League efforts. Spurs had the option to buy Tel for £45 million, and have now activated that clause.

Tottenham Hotspur sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich

A club statement on Sunday confirmed: “We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from FC Bayern. Mathys joined the Club from the Bundesliga side in February on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the move permanent. We can confirm we have agreed a deal with Bayern that will see the France Under-21 international sign a contract that will run until 2031 when his current loan deal ends on 30 June.”

While that is the first signing of the Thomas Frank era at Spurs, with the manager having arrived from Brentford to replace Postecoglou, it’s a transfer with Postecoglou written all over it. The Aussie had already told the club to push and make the loan move permanent prior to his early departure from the club.

Speaking ahead of the final Premier League fixture against Brighton, Postecoglou was asked for the latest on the player’s future. He said: “I guess they're the kind of discussions that we start to need to have. But again, without myself gate crashing meetings, I need to be invited to them, but we'll assess all those things. Matty's done really well for us.

“We put him in a real difficult position in that as a young player who hadn't played a lot, probably wasn't fit enough, we just threw him straight in but he's handled it really well. I think he's been a real important contributor for us and he'll definitely play tomorrow at some point whether he starts or come off the bench. I'm sure that decisions we will kind of look into post-season.”

Ange Postecoglou already gave Tel move seal of approval

It had been reported that Spurs are said to be planning to reduce the option to buy they currently hold in that deal, knowing that Bayern Munich are keen to cash in on the star with him not part of the squad’s long term plans. That has indeed happened with the club paying £30 million to sign Tel, rather than £45 million.

At the time of signing Tel, Postecoglou made it clear that he hoped that the move would be for longer than half a season. He: “I didn’t actually bring him here just for six months. I think he’s very, very exciting. When you meet him, you realise that he has that certain something. He has enormous confidence in what he wants to do.

“Although he is still young, he can physically handle the Premier League. He’s a goal scorer, he can hold his own, he’s got the necessary speed. He will play an important role in our end-of-season push and beyond.”

Tel won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2023 and has a winner’s medal to collect this year having turned out for the German giants eight times in the league this term prior to the Tottenham Hotspur move.

QPR have confirmed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur teenager goalkeeper Charlie Warren, who is set to link up with the R’s Development Squad after 10 years in the north London club’s academy.

Warren spent a short trial period with the R’s towards the end of the 2024/25 season and has now made that move permanent as the Championship outfit look to plan for the future. Spurs have been wrapped up in a managerial debacle but it could come to be the case that those discussions have led to a blinkered transfer strategy.

While there was no real likelihood of Warren impacting Thomas Frank’s first team in the near future, the decision to allow a teenager leave the club after so much time invested in his development reeks of something that happened 12 months ago.

Tottenham Hotspur risk repeating transfer error

QPR midfielder Kieran Morgan made the switch to Loftus Road last summer. Also 18 years at the time, the midfielder initially joined the Development Squad but took no time to be called into the first team.

Morgan was called up by October and had scored his first goal in his second outing against Coventry City, picking up a point for Marti Cifuentes’ side. He went on to make 31 first team appearances in his first season, well ahead of his planned development.

Letting the teenager leave for free was a stinking error from Spurs. Still just 19 years old, Morgan has become one of the Championship’s most exciting products. With a couple more years of first team football, he could well be sold for millions.

It’s too early to predict such an impact for Warren, but the signs of him following in Morgan’s footsteps and making Spurs regret their decision are there. With his transfer announced, he told the club website: “I'm really pleased and I can't wait to get started. It was good to be involved with the boys towards the end of last season, obviously with the (Premier League) Cup win. The feel around the training ground and within the squad was really, really positive. So that's what I want to be part of next season and kick on from there.

"I think the pathway is really good here. That's the most important thing when picking out a club as a young player. It's obvious how the ethos is to use young players and push young players. That's what you want to hear and what you want to see as a youngster.

"I am really good friends with Kieran. Speaking to him, he influenced my decision as well. Obviously, he's done really well here. He's the model - it shows there is a really good pathway here and us other young players want to try to replicate that."

‘Remember this name’: Warren arrives at Loftus Road

Having already impressed at QPR, Warren arrives with plenty of hype too. The Southern Football League published a report on the player’s development in November under the headline ‘remember this name’. On loan at Barton Rovers, the shot-stopper was said to be ‘lighting up the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central’ having helped the team to an eight-game unbeaten run.

Speaking about the signing, QPR CEO Christian Nourry said: "Charlie is an exciting goalkeeping prospect with very strong ball-playing qualities.

"His arrival is the latest recompense for our staff who have so enthusiastically embraced the changes in pathway philosophy that is now seeing some of the brightest Category One prospects highly value interest from QPR."

Tottenham Hotspur can now begin full preparations for the 2025/26 campaign with the ongoing managerial debacle now finalised. Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has arrived in north London to replace Ange Postecoglou.

The Aussie had long been tipped to leave Spurs this summer but an unexpected Europa League triumph went a long way to forgetting what was a dire Premier League campaign. That was, however, not enough to convince Daniel Levy that Postecoglou was the man to lead the club next term.

Instead, that will be Frank, who leaves Brentford having taken the west London club to Premier League security from the Championship. LondonWorld looks at what a Tottenham Hotspur starting XI could look like next season if current transfer rumours come true, with several Brentford first team stars tipped to be following Frank to his new club.

Tottenham Hotspur starting XI if transfer rumours come true

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

Defenders: Pedro Porro, Nathan Collins, Fikayo Tomori, Djed Spence

Guglielmo Vicario looks sure to hold down the number one spot at Tottenham Hotspur next season. An ankle injury kept him out of action between December and February last term and the shot-stopper will be hoping for a more injury-free campaign.

The emergence of Djed Spence was one of the positives under Ange Postecoglou and Pedro Porro could remain influential on the other flank. There are major questions over the future of Cristian Romero, who was already linked with a move to Spain before his disheartened response at the Aussie’s sacking. TBR Football is just one publication to suggest that Frank could bring Nathan Collins to north London while Calciomercato.it suggest that Fikayo Tomori could head to Spurs on a swap deal for Radu Dragusin.

Midfielders: James Maddison, Angel Gomes, Yehor Yarmolyuk

Spurs lacked bite in midfield throughout the Premier League campaign last season and that is something Daniel Levy could look to fix with Frank. Lille midfielder Angel Gomes will find a new club this summer having left as a free agent, and it’s been widely speculated that could be Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Spurs have also been linked with rising Brentford star Yarmolyuk, who was a favourite under Frank at the Gtech Community Stadium. There’s still more to come from James Maddison too in the heart of midfield.

Thomas Frank tipped to bring Brentford winger to Spurs

Wingers: Bryan Mbeumo, Son Heung-min

Striker: Dominic Solanke

There are some murmurs over an exit for club captain Son Heung-min but they seem muted. Frank will be keen to have the South Korean in his side with his experience likely vital to overseeing a smooth transition.

Another Brentford player linked with a move to follow Frank to Spurs is Bryan Mbeumo, who has no shortage of suitors in the summer window with the Bees expected to sell. Dominic Solanke is set to lead the line with Richarlison linked with a move back to former club Everton.

Tottenham Hotspur finished down in 17th place in the Premier League table this past season. They will be hoping to compete higher up the division next time around. Nevertheless, the London outfit were able to win the Europa League after beating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao last month.

Thomas Frank has been appointed as the new head coach at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has been picked as their replacement for Ange Postecoglou. The 51-year-old has caught the eye at Brentford over the past few years.

Tottenham Hotspur eye Justin Kluivert move

Spurs are ‘weighing up’ a move for £42m-rated AFC Bournemouth attacker Justin Kluivert this summer, according to CaughtOffside. They are being linked with a swoop for the 26-year-old over the next couple of months. The report adds that Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United are also admirers.

Kluivert, who is a Holland international with seven caps under his belt, has been a key player for the Cherries since joining them in 2023. They could now face a battle to keep hold of him in this window amid attention from elsewhere. He has made 75 appearances for the Dorset club in all competitions and has scored 22 goals, 13 of which came in the last campaign.

The Amsterdam-born man rose up through the academy at Ajax before going on to break into their first-team as a teenager. He found the net on 13 occasions in 56 outings before Roma snapped him up. The forward has since embarked on spells at RB Leipzig, OGC Nice and Valencia before his switch to England.

What now for Tottenham Hotspur after Thomas Frank arrival?

Spurs will be in the hunt for new additions. Frank will be eager to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad with some reinforcements. Kluivert could be seen as someone to bolster their attacking department ahead of next term.

Following Frank’s appointment, former footballer Jan Molby has said: "He sees problems and solves problems. It's a great strength for any manager to have. There have been a couple of seasons when people have thought Brentford would struggle that year, but they didn't. He kept finding new solutions.

"Who would have thought after losing Ivan Toney he would be able to produce a pair like he has done this season, with Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa? Thomas has earned the right and he's got what it takes. I think it's a really exciting appointment for Spurs."

He added: "I just have this feeling that for all those things people might be worried about - his career in Denmark, never having managed a club like this - the players will like him. They will like the clarity. They will like his personality, his honesty. He is a very good man-manager. I think he'll be absolutely fine. In the end, it boils down to what he does on the pitch, but I think he's got all the tools to do the job.

"His big strength is he's very clear with the players. He will say: 'This is what I expect and if we all get that we'll be OK.' Thomas is very open. He's a great communicator, which is very important. He's got time for everybody. He doesn't feel the need to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. He's clear in what he wants."

It’s been an unforgettable year to be a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, whether a humble season ticket holder or an A-lister sitting up in the executive suites.

Spurs are one of the biggest clubs in the world and this year’s Europa League triumph was the first piece of silverware for the club since getting their hands on the League Cup in 2008 and a first European triumph since a 1984 UEFA Cup win.

LondonWorld looks at 10 famous Tottenham Hotspur fans who will have been celebrating this year and why they follow Spurs, ranked by their reported net worth.

Famous Tottenham Hotspur fans

AJ Tracey, Rapper - £4 million

The rapper is a Tottenham Hotspur fan thanks to his dad. In an interview with the club’s official website he opened up on his love for Spurs. AJ Tracey said: “My dad giving me the purple Pony shirt, late 1990s, and giving me a big hug. I’ve still got that shirt. It’s tiny, but I’ll never get rid of it.”

When asked about his season ticket routine, he said: “I tend to drive in now, usually meet my younger brother along the way. He lives in a different side to London to me. He might be an even bigger fan than me - he’s got a lot of trivia! We’ll park up, walk around the front of the stadium, get a bite to eat, sit down, excited, get a drink and say ‘hi’ to everyone around me. I’m a Season Ticket Holder, so I know everyone around me. It’s like a family.”

Emma Raducanu, Tennis Player - £10 million

US Open champion Emma Raducanu came to love Tottenham Hotspur through her coaching team who were ‘desperately’ trying to convert the tennis star. She was even given a customised Tottenham Hotspur shirt to form those bonds.

That worked and after Euro 2021, Raducanu said: “I loved following the Euros last year and watching Harry Kane, who's obviously the England captain, and Son, I'm a big fan of him as well.”

Nicholas Kyrgios, Tennis Player - £8 million

It’s a pretty simple reason why Australian tennis star Nicholas Kyrgios supports Tottenham Hotspur and that’s thanks to FIFA. He said: “I play computer games a lot and I used to like Emmanuel Adebayor on FIFA. At the time, he played for Spurs, so I supported them and have never changed.”

Kyrgios was seen warming up in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt at Wimbledon in 2017. The sportsman also visited the Spurs training ground in 2014 to watch the team behind-the-scenes.

Dave Bautista, Actor - £12 million

The actor has been in several high profile films over recent years including Dune, Guardians of the Galaxy and Blade Rune 2049. The 56-year-old was born in Washington DC but found an affinity for Tottenham Hotspur while on set one year.

He told Soccer AM: “I’ve been adopted by Tottenham. A very good friend of mine who was on my make-up team for Guardians of the Galaxy talked to me about football and I said I know absolutely nothing. He said, ‘You don’t have a team? Well you do know, and came in with a Tottenham jersey.”

A cheeky Noel Gallagher, known for his Manchester City love, was on the programme that day and replied: “If I knew nothing about football I’d be a Tottenham fan.”

Tom Holland, Actor - £30 million

The Spiderman star is another who has been outspoken in his love for the club, giving an interview to the Tottenham Hotspur website. In 2021 he did an interview alongside Son Heung-min and admitted the 2019 Champions League run had converted him into a superfan.

Speaking in September 2023 as Ange Postecoglou began his work at the club, he said: "We are really enjoying it. It seems like they are playing really great football. The lads seem like they are really enjoying it so us, as Tottenham fans, right now, it feels really good."

Michael McIntyre, Comedian - £64 million

McIntyre is regularly seen at Spurs matches and featured across the club’s social media channels. Speaking to TNT Sports last season, he said: “Crouchy asked if I would come down and say hi, and I’d never say no to Crouchy.

“I woke him [Crouchy] up on the Midnight Gameshow in his holiday home, that was super fun. It’s a pleasure to be here. I sit up there, that’s why I’m in a suit and not allowed to get angry. I went to the Brighton game last week and that was a tense experience.”

Adele, Singer - £176 million

Adele was born in Tottenham and spent her early childhood there. The singer has been spotted wearing Spurs scarves and sung ‘Glory, Glory, Tottenham Hotspur’ for the club.

In 2020 when playing at London, she opened up about her love for the club. When releasing her album in 2021, the Spurs social media channel wrote: “Hometown glory. Congratulations on the new album.”

JK Rowling and Sir Alan Sugar two of Spurs’ richest famous followers

Mark Wahlberg, Actor - £320 million

How deep the actor’s love for Tottenham Hotspur runs is maybe questionable, but Wahlberg has been seen sporting Spurs clobber. He’s recorded some promotional material for the club’s social media accounts and not been afraid to land a dig at north London rivals Arsenal.

JK Rowling, Author - £800 million

The Harry Potter author is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur through her family. She once said: “I'm not a very passionate supporter and I certainly don't get very depressed if they're not doing very well but if I was to turn up to watch anyone it would be Spurs.”

Sir Alan Sugar, Businessman - £1.1 billion

The Apprentice star is one of the club’s most outspoken fans and regularly shares his thoughts about Tottenham Hotspur on social media. Sir Alan even invested in the club alongside Terry Venables back in 1991.

Sugar eventually sold his stake in February 2001 but was involved in plenty of high profile decisions during his time at the club. He went on to donate £3 million from the proceeds of the club’s sale to the refurbishment of the Hackney Empire.

Tottenham Hotspur could look to replace any void left by Yves Bissouma this summer with a move for Brentford star Yehor Yarmolyuk.

It's a summer of change in north London with Ange Postecoglou sacked and Brentford boss Thomas Frank expected to take the host seat. The Aussie's dismissal is not believed to have done down well with several of the first team squad.

Postecoglou led Spurs to a historic Europa League win last season and was sent messages of thanks from players when it was announced that he would be leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The manager had shared his desire to stay for a third season during the club's trophy parade.

Yves Bissouma disheartened by Ange Postecoglou departure

One of the most heartfelt messages came from Bissouma, who hinted at a secret last conversation with Postecoglou before he was sacked. The 28-year-old has been with the club since 2022, having signed from Brighton for £30 million.

He was a prominent figure under Postecoglou but Football Insider have now cited Paul Robinson in a report that the club would be listening to offers for the unsettled box-to-box midfielder.

Should Bissouma move, CaughtOffside claim that Spurs have a new midfield target in Yarmolyuk. Those links gathering pace with Frank expected to make the switch across London.

The Ukrainian is a player Frank knows and loves. The 21-year-old made 31 Premier League appearances last season and was particularly impressive in the 4-2 win over Newcastle United in December.

After that match, a video of Frank's half time team talk was shared online. In that clip, the manager praised Yarmolyuk in front of his colleagues, saying 'What a player guys' before a round of applause.

Brentford want £25m for Tottenham Hotspur target

CaughtOffside claim that Brentford have put a £25 million price tag on the player but are prioritising keeping the rising star, who is still contracted until 2031.

The article adds that an unnamed Premier League club and a La Liga outfit have inquired about the midfielder. Burnley, Leeds United and Everton are said to be interested alongside Spurs with Borussia Dortmund and Napoli also said to be monitoring the Bees' man. None of those clubs are believed to have made a formal approach yet.

Yarmolyuk coincidentally gave an in depth interview to the Brentford club website prior to the match against Tottenham Hotspur in January. In that talk, he opened up on moving to the UK and the importance of Mariia Manirko, premium services executive at Brentford - it remains to be seen which staff follow Frank to Spurs but the manager is known to want to maintain some of the team that has served him so well in west London.

In that interview the player also shared an affinity for London, which could give Spurs the advantage over other suitors. Yarmolyuk said: “I didn’t speak English at all and when you can’t understand anything, it’s very tough. Language was the biggest thing but with time, it’s getting easier and easier. Mariia helped me a lot with everything from the language, to renting a flat and finding a place.

“Everyone helped me a lot. We have a friendly team who can help you in a tough moment as well as when it’s good. Now, I’m happy that I moved but it was a big step in my life. For me, it’s a second home. I feel like I’m at home now, and it also feels more like home because we have a lot of Ukrainians here [in London].”

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been beaten to the signing of rising Southampton star Harley Emsden-James by Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The north London rivals were named alongside Chelsea as teams who had been tracking the 16-year-old, alongside the Red Devils. However, it is the North West outfit that have won the transfer race and will pay a fee of £1 million to bring the player to Old Trafford.

Manchester United will also have to pay add-ons given the player’s young age and Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have negotiated a 20 per cent sell on clause for the player.

Manchester United beat Arsenal and Spurs to sign youth star

The United-bound player is not the teenager tipped to make a high profile exit from Southampton this summer. 19-year-old Tyler Dibling enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Premier League last term and has also been linked with Manchester United, as well as Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and several Premier League sides.

Emsden-James is somewhat of an unknown to Premier League fans having never played for the Saints first team. He is, however, playing above his age group having been turning out for the under-18 Southampton side despite only turning 16 in March.

The England youth international is a coup for Manchester United, who continue to be prolific when it comes to signing up youth talent as part of a new transfer strategy. The club hopes that a focus on the future will put less pressure on spending huge sums on recruiting first team players.

Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven have both moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal last year and made their debuts for the Red Devils first team. It’s thought to be unlikely that Emsden-James makes an immediate impact on the first team and will instead work with the under-18 side at the club.

Heaven signed for Manchester United from the Gunners on February 1 and has already made six first team appearances. Explaining his decision to make the move, he said: “The opportunities that the young players have got here in the past. I think United had the most minutes given to teenagers last season [2023/24]. That convinced me to come here. And the people and the fans here are quite loving, and I felt that when I was playing. They’re so supportive.”

Mikel Arteta reflects on Premier League youth production

Speaking about youth production at Arsenal in January, as Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri impressed in the first team, manager Mikel Arteta said it is ‘impossible’ for the side to produce as many top players as clubs such as Barcelona. He put that down to regulations on English clubs.

Arteta, who started his career at Barcelona, said: “For example we lived in La Masia. To replicate that here is impossible. We cannot do it. It is the most unique environment I have seen in my life, the most competitive, the most inspiring and the most professional environment at any club or academy that I have seen that replicates a first-team environment at 14 or 15 years old. To do that with the capacity to recruit from all over Spain, or all over the world if you wanted at that time, that is very difficult to achieve.

“It’s so limited, that’s why with the financial situation that all the clubs have at the moment. But that’s a regulation – it might change, it might not. We just need to be so good with the actual regulation right now. But it is very different in Europe. That’s the thing that I don’t think is very, very fair.”

Tottenham are being linked with a Premier League winger as they look to build a squad good enough to compete in the Champions League next season. Spurs need to strengthen significantly to make the step up. and whoever takes over from Ange Postecoglou is going to demand such improvements to take the job.

Thomas Frank is likely to be the next man in, and he will want players who fit his brand of football, which is an attractive brand at that. Injuries tore Tottenham’s season apart last term, and that highlighted the lack of depth within the squad, and unless it is addressed, it will be exposed further when competing in the higher level of the Champions League.

It has been a strange summer so far for Spurs, given their lack of manager, but we have still seen some players being linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. Attackers are most commonly linked, which is no surprise given the space in the Tottenham attack, with Timo Werner returning to RB Leipzig.

One of the latest links involves AFC Bournemouth wideman Antonio Semenyo, who is being heavily linked with a move this summer. The 25-year-old scored 13 times and provided seven assists in the season just gone. The winger is under a long-term contract with the Cherries, and reports have claimed he will command an asking price of £70million this summer.

It’s unclear whether Spurs will commit so much money to one player, but former scout Mick Brown believes they are interested, telling Football Insider: “Semenyo has had a very good season at Bournemouth and a lot of clubs have taken note of that. Tottenham are certainly among them, and they’ve been very impressed by what they’ve seen. He’s built a justified reputation for himself and now I think he’s ready for the step up.

“With Man United focusing elsewhere, Tottenham will be given the chance to make a move with a free run at him, and I expect they’ll want to take that chance. If they can wrap it up quickly, it will be far easier than getting involved in a bidding war.”

Semenyo on his future

Speaking to The Athletic about transfer links during the season, Semenyo said: “I do hear it. But I try not to take too much notice. It is so early in the season and that can all fade away in a split second.

“It is great to hear they are interested — I don’t know how true that is — but I just want to focus on my game, continue doing what I’m doing, causing problems, scoring goals, getting assists. That’s the main thing. If that does come we will deal with that then but at this moment in time it is just about staying focused on what the goal and the plan is this year.”

Though, Semenyo also admitted: “I am an Arsenal fan. I don’t conflict the two with my job. It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen I need to prove it.”
