Bruno Saltor leading Spurs for now after Igor Tudor's departure

But the expectation is that a new head coach will be in place in the coming days.

The Premier League strugglers revealed on Sunday afternoon that it has been mutually agreed for Tudor to leave the club with immediate effect.

Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci have also left their respective roles of goalkeeping coach and physical coach.

Tudor had a troubled period as boss after taking over from Thomas Frank.

After what appeared to be an upturn with a draw at Liverpool and second-leg win over Atletico Madrid in their Champions League exit, he saw his side lose 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest.

He was then immediately informed his father had died, with Bruno stepping in for post-match media duties.

Bruno will lead training for those handful of players who are still at Hotspur Way at the moment.

But a successor is expected to be in place by the time international players return to training.

Bruno had one game as interim boss at Chelsea after Graham Potter was sacked.

He later followed Potter to West Ham and returned to the Prem as part of Tudor’s staff.

Albion visit Spurs on Saturday, April 18 (5.30pm).

Gus Poyet to Tottenham, says Glenn Murray

Murray starred for Poyet’s slick-passing side as they won the League One title in 2010-11.

The two then parted company as Murray was allowed to leave for free and ended up at arch rivals Crystal Palace.

But the former striker sees Poyet - who also managed today's opponents Sunderland and took them to a League Cup final - as a potential choice for Spurs should they sack Igor Tudor.

Murray told BBC Radio 5 Live that veteran Harry Redknapp could do a fire-fighter type job as Spurs battle to stay up.

But he added: “I was with Gus Poyet and he put himself forward for the job midweek.

“If you are looking for someone who is going to hang around if they go down and make it a long term project, you want that continuity so to speak, it would have to be Gus Poyet or Tim Sherwood.”

Poyet made 82 league appearances for Spurs and later returned as assistant boss to Juande Ramos, helping them win the League Cup in 2008.

He has since had a globe-trotting coaching career and was most recently in charge of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in South Korea, taking them to their tenth league title.

But he left in support of assistant Mauricio Taricco, who was accused of making a racist gesture and resigned in protest.

Taricco would be a popular addition to the staff among Tottenham fans were Poyet to take the top job.

Pressure mounted on Tudor after a chaotic midweek defeat at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

He is being assisted by former Albion skipper and coach Bruno.

Former Brighton captain Bruno joins Spurs as coach

The promotion-winning captain is part of Igor Tudor’s coaching set-up at Tottenham Hotspur.

He was previously on the staff at Chelsea and West Ham in support of Graham Potter following their move from the Amex in 2022.

Bruno becomes assistant coach for Tudor, who is in charge at Spurs until the end of the season as successor to the sacked Thomas Frank.

He will add valuable Prem insight and has been appointed along with goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic and conditioning expert Riccardo Ragnacci, to join five existing members of staff.

The new-look set-up go in at the deep end with a first game at home to arch rivals and Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

Bruno made 235 appearances across seven seasons for the Seagulls after joining from Valencia in 2012, retiring at the end of the 2018-19 season.

He immediately headed to Belfast to take an end-of-season UEFA coaching course and was later appointed to Potter’s staff.

Many Albion fans were angered by his decision to follow Potter to Chelsea as six members of staff in total made the switch a few weeks into the 2022-23 campaign.

They included Bjorn Hamberg, who this week left his post as head coach of Albion under-18s to become senior head coach at Elfsborg in Sweden.

Roberto De Zerbi favourite for next Tottenham Hotspur boss

Thomas Frank was sacked on Wednesday morning after a home defeat by Newcastle.

At about the same time, De Zerbi parted company with Marseille after Champions League elimination and two poor domestic results in Paris.

But his stock is high in England with many fans and observers recalling the best of his time in charge of the Seagulls.

Spurs’ defeat ensured they remained below Albion in the table.

Fabian Hurzeler’s men remain 14th ahead of their game at Aston Villa.

Betfair are quoting De Zerbi at 8/11 with current USA and ex-Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino at 14/1.

Fulham’s Marco Silva is 5/1 and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola 6/1.

Ruben Amorim, recently sacked by Manchester United, is priced at 15/2 and ex-Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, now in charge of Ferencvaros, 9/1.

Oliver Glasner, whose tenure at Crystal Palace is coming to an end, is 14/1.

There were claims in recent weeks that Hurzeler would be the leading candidate if Frank were to be axed.

But that appeared fanciful at the time – and even more so now.

The latest tumultuous result of Frank’s dismal reign resulted in Spurs falling to 16th in the Premier League and made it two wins in 17 league fixtures.

Not for the first time in 2026 Frank faced calls to be “sacked in the morning” by disgruntled Tottenham fans and there were also chants for old boss Mauricio Pochettino during the club’s eighth home loss in all competitions this season.

With 12 days until Spurs host rivals Arsenal on February 22, it left chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and the Lewis family, which runs the club’s major shareholder ENIC, with a decision to make over Frank’s future and they have dismissed the 52-year-old.

Marseille crashed out of Europe after 3-0 defeats by Liverpool and Club Brugge, which left them vulnerable to a lasp-gasp goal by Benfica to knock them out.

Anatolij Trubin, the Benfica goalkeeper who played for De Zerbi at Shakhtar, headed the goal which eliminated OM.

They then let slip a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at lowly Paris FC before losing 5-0 to PSG, leaving De Zerbi's position at Stade Velodrome untenable.

Albion's game at Spurs is currently listed for April 18.

Brighton academy draw with PSG and now face Tottenham Hotspur

Late goals from Nehemiah Oriola and Kofi Shaw secured a 2-2 draw in the Premier League International Cup fixture at Lancing.

Focus now switches to the under-18s, who go to Stevenage to face Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday.

It is part of an exciting and varied schedule for head coaches Shannon Ruth and Bjorn Hamberg along with the players and staff.

There tends to be a close connection between the squads with under-18s frequently stepping up to the 21s.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, under-21s boss Ruth told The Argus: “We have got the FA Youth Cup two days later so we will have some players involved in the PSG game, some players prepping for the Youth Cup game.

“For the academy, to have PSG on Sunday and then for the youth team to have Tottenham in the Youth Cup on Tuesday is going to be a good few days for us and one the players are looking forward to.”

The point against PSG was secured by a precise finish from Shaw deep in added time.

He calmly passed the ball low inside the far post after being found in the box by Henry Kasvosve.

Oriola had revived hopes a few minutes beforehand by converting a penalty.

Ben Barclay conceded a penalty for the PSG opener.

And there might have been question marks about how goalkeeper Steven Hall and his defence were unable to deal with a high ball to the back post as the second was headed in from close range.

Both teams hit the post with superb efforts in the first half, Yussif Owusu going close for the Seagulls with a curler from outside the box.

Joe Belmont was offside as he tapped home the rebound.

Albion under-21s: Hall, Hayden (Mackley 45), Barclay, Atom, Keogh (Mills 72), Oriola, Knight, Owusu (Shaw 62), West (Kasvosve 82), Nti, Belmont (Parsons 71).

Fans were treated to a promising start with a goal from Yankuba Minteh in the eighth minute of the game.

This followed a second from Yasin Ayari, sending a wave of excitement through the stadium and putting the Seagulls two goals ahead.

However, this excitement was short-lived with Tottenham's Richarlison scoring just before half time.

Spurs pushed for a second goal, but it was an own goal from Jan Paul Van Hecke which saw the game finish 2-2.

Despite the disappointing finish, fans remained in good spirits as the sun shone at the Amex.

Brighton player ratings as Yankuba Minteh shines again

Description

This is how they fared as individuals.

Bart Verbruggen 7/10

Made an outstanding save from Simons low to his left and had a decent game marred by a couple of unusual goals he could do little about.

Joel Veltman 7/10

Quite enjoyed his tussles with Richarlison and continues to give good, professional backbone but he could not always seal off his touchline.

Jan Paul van Hecke 7/10

Unfortunate or at fault when the ball hit him for the equaliser? Either way, he produced some excellent and important interventions in his own box apart from that over 90 tough minutes.

Lewis Dunk 7/10

Like his partner in defence, came up with some strong and important challenges and clearances as balls were driven across goal.

Ferdi Kadioglu 7/10

Battled away with infectious enthusiasm and looked to get forward. Kudus got past him quite easily at times although there was an argument Kadioglu was intentionally showing him down the outside.

Carlos Baleba 6/10

Some really good work in the first half-hour and it felt like old times but it felt like was fading late in the half. And it wasn’t an optical illusion.

Yasin Ayari 7/10

Made a very sweet connection on his goal and did some good work in midfield, even if the scissors volley did not quite come off.

Yankuba Minteh 8/10

Was again Albion’s most dangerous player. Opened the scoring with a superb finish and a moment of tracking back to shut down Richarlison also stands out. There was concern he was no longer doing defensive graft when he was replaced.

Brajan Gruda 6/10

Asked to work off Rutter in attack. Without having a massive impact, his footwork was at the origin of the opening goal.

Kaoru Mitoma 5/10

Well below what we expect from him. Seemed to lack pace and conviction at times and strength on the ball but his threat and defensive awareness kept him on the pitch.

Georginio Rutter 7/10

It felt like a quiet game for him but this is quite a selfless role, as we have seen with Welbeck. His through ball released Minteh for the opener, pressing helped win possession for the Ayari strike and persistence set up a later chance for the same player. And he helped defend set-pieces.

SUBS - Diego Gomez 6/10

Sent on for the second half and did not really stamp any authority in midfield.

James Milner 6/10

Went on perhaps later than expected to try and bring order in midfield.

Danny Welbeck, Diego Coppola, Mats Wieffer N/A

A glimpse of good link play from the first, some battling from the second and a decent job on the left from the third.

Brighton's Ferdi Kadioglu plan at left-back ahead of Tottenham clash

Submitted by daniel on

Description

And Mats Wieffer could return on the right of defence in the Premier League clash after a two-match absence.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed today that Jack Hinshelwood faces a period out of action due to an ankle ligament injury.

Diego Gomez returns to the squad having missed the 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth due to illness.

Max De Cuyper does not have a serious injury after hurting his knee at the Vitality Stadium.

But, while he has not been ruled out of the Spurs game, Hurzeler was talking very much in terms of Kadioglu starting on the left of defence.

He said: “I think it is a big boost to have him back.

“He played a really good game against Bournemouth when he came in.

“He had really good actions, he was defensively very strong in one-against-one duels against Semenyo.

“There will be another challenge tomorrow against Kudus and this will be the challenge he has to face.

“But he seems to be in a really good place. He is training very well, he is capable of doing a lot of physical distance regarding high speeds, regarding total distance.

“I think he is close to 100% and hopefully he can prove it tomorrow.”

Chris Kavanagh to referee Brighton v Tottenham Hotspur

Submitted by daniel on

Description

The Lancashire-based official has been handed the middle for the home game with Tottenham Hotspur.

His video assistant will be Neil Davies.

Kavanagh has already refereed eight games this season, including Europa League fixtures and the Community Shield at Wembley.

He was at the centre of debate in the latter for failure to award Crystal Palace a penalty for handball by Alexis Mac Allister.

Kavanagh averaged five yellow cards per game across last season so is comfortably below that figure so far this term.

He was in the news last season when he showed Declan Rice a second yellow card as Albion drew 1-1 at Arsenal.

That decision as Joel Veltman looked to take a quick free-kick, and the fact he did not show Joao Pedro yellow earlier in the game, were the subject of much complaint from Arsenal’s fans and sympathisers in the media.

His domestic season ended with the Championship play-off final between Sheffield United and Sunderland – so a good memory for current Albion winger Tommy Watson.

The full officiating line-up for Albion v Tottenham is as follows.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh. Assistants: Dan Cook, Ian Hussin. Fourth official: Tom Nield. VAR: Neil Davies. Assistant VAR: Rob Jones.
