Gianluca Di Marzio has said that AC Milan and Tottenham are expected to agree on a deal for Emerson Royal soon, with the transfer potentially set to be completed as early as today.

Emerson Royal to AC Milan is close

Di Marzio claims that the distance between the two parties is now narrowing, with the Premier League side and the Serie A club now thought to be less than €1m apart in their valuations of the defender.

He explains that the expectation is for Milan to complete the deal over the ‘next few hours’.

The former Real Betis man is then expected to arrive in Italy either today or tomorrow to seal the move.

Spurs agree €15m deal with AC Milan

Something similar is also being reported by Fabrizio Romano, who says that Spurs and the Rossoneri will hold their final round of talks over Emerson today.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He asserts that the right-back is now on the cusp of being a Milan player, with a package of €15m plus add-ons package alleged to have been agreed.

Romano tweeted: ‘AC Milan and Tottenham will have final round of talks to close Emerson Royal deal tomorrow. €15m plus add-ons package, Emerson’s on the verge of becoming new Milan player.’

Spurs Web Opinion

One would hope that once this sale is completed and more space is freed up in their wage bill, Spurs will press ahead with moves for their top targets and look to bring two or three top players through the door within the next couple of weeks.

Tottenham have done so well with outgoings this summer, but there has been a distinct lack of senior, big-name incomings.

Pundit claims Tottenham 'really need to upgrade' on one fan

Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Dejan Kulusevski cannot be a regular starter for Tottenham Hotspur if they want to reach the next level.

Does Dejan Kulusevski have a future at Spurs?

After an incredible start to his Tottenham career upon arriving from Juventus at the start of 2021, Kulusevski has had an up-and-down time over the last couple of seasons.

While the Swede had spells of sublime form last season, impressing on the right wing as well as the number ten role, he struggled for consistency during the second half of the campaign.

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old remains a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and is expected to stay at the club this summer but some might question whether he is the ideal fit to play on the flanks in the new Spurs system.

Spurs are expected to sign a winger before the transfer window shuts, with Wolves’ Pedro Neto continuing to be heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Football Transfers).

Agbonlahor says Kulusevski needs to go

Agbonlahor believes that Kulusevski’s lack of pace will cost Postecoglou’s men dearly if he continues to play every game.

The former Aston Villa striker told talkSPORT (2/8/2024, 4:14 pm): “Tottenham really need to upgrade Kulusevski. I watched him last season. He got substituted 10 times. He lacks pace.

“The amount of times I watched Spurs trying to counterattack on that right-hand side, he slows it down, everyone gets back, and it ruins the counterattack. They need an upgrade on Kulusevski.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Kulusevski is an immensely talented attacker but he is not the sort of winger that Ange prefers, with the 58-year-old evidently liking wide players who are aggressive and attack with pace.

I would not be surprised if the Swede is used in rotation with Maddison in the number ten role as the campaign progresses, particularly if Tottenham are to sign a top winger like Neto.

Report: £13m Spurs signing on verge of securing loan exit

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to send one of their young forwards out on loan in the hope of some regular first-team football.

Alejo Veliz is set for another loan away from Totttenham

Alejo Veliz‘s loan spell at Sevilla during the second half of last season did not go according to plan, with the striker only playing a total of 31 minutes of football during his time in Spain (TransferMarkt).

A report yesterday from Diario AS reporter Eduardo Burgos claimed that Southampton were in talks with Tottenham over a loan move to the Premier League newcomers.

It was quickly squashed when Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge took to X to reveal that his understanding was that reports linking the striker with the Saints were wide of the mark.

Alejo Veliz’s loan spell at Sevilla during the second half of last season did not go according to plan, with the striker only playing a total of 31 minutes of football during his time in Spain (TransferMarkt).

There has been a further development this morning with Matteo Moretto revealing on X that Veliz is close to a loan move to La Liga outfit Espanyol.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A return to La Liga awaits Veliz

It now appears that Veliz will get a second chance to prove himself in the Spanish top flight after his loan move to Sevilla was nothing short of a disaster.

Veliz saw hardly any game time during the club’s tour of Japan and South Korea with Ange Postecoglou preferring academy graduate Will Lankshear ahead of him.

The Argentine U21 international joined Tottenham for a reported £13m fee from Rosario Central in the summer of 2023 (BBC).

Spurs Web Opinion

We have seen Bryan Gil head to Spain on loan on at least two occasions and return to Tottenham and still fail to be ready for the physicality of the Premier League.

A loan move to Southampton or another English club would have at least allowed the Argentine to see if he can cope with the demands, compared to the different style of play in Spain.

Given the waste of a loan at Sevilla, it would not be surprising if Tottenham have seeked assurances from Espanyol over his playing time.

Report: Spurs feel one player 'does not have the legs' for Postecoglou's system

Description

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed that the North London club are desperately trying to offload both Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso, with the latter seen as someone lacking the physical attributes to play in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

A summer of outgoings at Tottenham

Tottenham have been pretty successful in managing to offload their deadwood this summer, with Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon, Tanguy Ndombele, Troy Parrott, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Bryan Gil departing the club so far.

A few more exits are expected over the coming weeks, with Reguilon, who is into the final year of his contract, being linked with a return to Spain (El Mira).

Like the left-back, Lo Celso also has just one year left on his current deal, which is why the writing seems on the wall for the former Real Betis man.

Lo Celso doesn’t have the legs for Ange

O’Keefe has now stated that the North London club are hard out work to figure out exit routes for both players, adding that neither is part of Posetecoglou’s plans.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Lo Celso and Reguilon will be the two who they are desperately trying to get rid of. Reguilon has absolutely no future at Tottenham whatsoever.

“Giovani [Lo Celso] they say that he doesn’t have the legs for Ange’s system, so they are prepared to let him out and I think that was quite obvious the way he was a bit-part player. He came on and did a few nice cameos.

“There is obviously a player there, he is a talented footballer but he doesn’t suit what they want.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given both Lo Celso and Reguilon are into the final year of their deals, they have a lot of power and will likely be waiting for the right offer to arrive.

I doubt Tottenham would be able to push them out like they have done with other players this summer.

Report: Club are considering making a £60m offer for Tottenham star

Description

According to GiveMeSport, a summer exit from Tottenham is still very much on the cards for Richarlison, who continues to attract concrete interest from Saudi Arabia.

Will Richarlison leave Tottenham this summer?

Although Richarlison boasted an excellent goals-to-games ratio last season, the striker spent much of the campaign on the treatment table.

Many Spurs fans feel that he is one player the Lilywhites could look to upgrade on and it has now emerged that the North London club are pushing ahead with a move for Dominic Solanke.

GiveMeSport claim that in order to fund a move for the Bournemouth star, Tottenham could decide to cash in on Richarlison over the coming days or weeks.

Saudi Arabian club could pay £60m for Richarlison

It is alleged that Richarlison is of interest in Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, who are looking to add a number nine to their squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, the publication asserts that Al-Ahli are now considering making a £60m offer for the Brazil international, which would match the fee that Spurs paid to sign him from Everton two years ago.

Tottenham kick off their 2024/25 Premier League season against Leicester City in just two weeks time.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Postecoglou’s preference would be to bring in a striker like Solanke to compete with Richarlison rather than to replace the 27-year-old.

However, if a £60m offer does come Tottenham’s way, the North London club would likely be seriously tempted to accept it.

Report: Postecoglou wants to bring Premier League centre

Description

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur have now set their sights on Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen, whose future at Selhurst Park is thought to be in doubt.

Tottenham want another centre-back

The report claims that Ange Postocoglou wants additional reinforcements to his backline this summer and views Andersen as someone who can offer competition and cover to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

It is pointed out that the Denmark international has only two years left on his contract at Selhurst Park, which could potentially make him a relatively cheap option for the top clubs in the Premier League.

This is not the first time Spurs have been linked with Andersen. The Lilywhites reportedly wanted to sign the defender back in 2021 after his impressive loan spell with Fulham (The Athletic).

Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle all like Joachim Andersen

However, Tottenham are not the only ones showing interest in the 28-year-old, who is also alleged to be on the radars of both Newcastle United and Liverpool.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that even though Andersen might be tempted by the prospect of moving to a bigger club this summer, Oliver Glasner’s men are expected to fight to keep hold of the defender.

Palace have already lost Michael Olise this summer, while Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze are also being linked with potential moves away.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Marc Guehi potentially set to follow Michael Olise out of the door this summer and with the threat of Eberechi Eze’s departure also looming, I doubt Palace would consider any offers for Andersen, despite the former Fulham star’s contract situation.

I also doubt he would come to Tottenham just to sit on the bench behind the likes of Romero, Van de Ven and maybe even Radu Dragusin too.

Tottenham are confident they can complete three more signings

Description

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has doubled down on his previous assertion, insisting that the Lilywhites remain confident that three more new faces could arrive through the door before the transfer window slams shut.

Spurs have had a slow summer of signings

Some Spurs fans are understandably frustrated at the lack of big names arriving this summer, with Ange Postecoglou not getting his wish of bringing his top targets in early in the window.

However, there is still plenty of time for the club to rescue this transfer window and make some big moves.

O’Keefe revealed on social media a couple of weeks ago that the club have three potential signings waiting in the wings and are ready to push those deals through as soon as they get the green light.

Tottenham want three more signings

He has now made the same claim, revealing that Tottenham are certainly not panicking and have identified the three players that they want to bring through the door.

MORE SPURS STORIES

O’Keefe pointed out that, unlike previous years, the club have managed to keep their transfer dealing under wraps so far.

He said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Again, I was told not ten minutes before the show that they think they’ve got three deals that they can do. Three players that they believe they can get in, they are keeping everything obviously as tight-lipped as possible.

“There’s no question that things have changed since the new regime has come in with what gets out and what doesn’t get out and I keep being told the same thing. They believe they have got three players that will come to Spurs in this transfer window.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While most would guess that Solanke and Neto are part of the three players Tottenham have lined up, it remains to be seen who the other one is.

I highly doubt the club would be able to meet Crystal Palace’s asking price for Eze, especially if they spend big on Solanke and Neto.

Description

According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur have now met with Dominic Solanke’s entourage as they look to push through a deal for the Bournemouth star.

Tottenham open talks with Solanke’s agents

The report says that the North London club have now opened talks with Solanke’s representatives and have gathered information about his position on a summer transfer.

It is explained that the 26-year-old is open to moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if the two clubs are able to agree on a fee.

However, Spurs might not have things all their own way, with CaughtOffside claiming that Arsenal and Liverpool are also circling around the centre-forward.

Tottenham expected to bid for Solanke

It is alleged that the Lilywhites are expected to test the Cherries’ resolve with an offer of around £43m for the Englishman but the South Coast club are expected to demand that the player’s release clause be met.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That release clause stands at £65m, a full £22m higher than Spurs are expected to bid.

The publication adds that Spurs are also keeping an eye on Jonathan David’s situation, having recently spoken to the Canadian international’s representatives.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Tottenham are confident that they will be able to get Solanke for a fee lower than his release clause.

Perhaps Spurs expect the 26-year-old to push for a move once an offer is launched.

Tottenham Hotspur officially announce that Nile John has left the club on a permanent transfer to join Liga Portugal 2 side CD Feirense.

Nile John leaves Tottenham Hotspur

It was first reported by Lilywhite Rose earlier this week that Nile John was set to depart his boyhood club on a permanent basis at the age of 21.

John made 24 appearances for the Spurs Premier League 2 side last season, scoring four goals and adding three assists on the way to two youth league trophies.

After joining the club as a young kid and working his way through the ranks, John made two senior appearances for the Lilywhites against Pacos Ferreira in a Europa Conference League qualifier and against Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League.

Nile John joins Liga Portugal 2 side CD Feirense

John has now swapped the Lilywhite of North London for the Portuguese second division as he links up with his new club, CD Feirense.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Feirense finished 16th in the 18-team league last season, so John will be hoping to propel them up the table in the 2024/25 campaign.

In the official club announcement, Tottenham wrote: ‘We thank Nile for his service to the Club and wish him all the best in the next stage of his career.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

It’s always a shame to see such a highly-rated academy player leave the club, but it is clearly what’s best for John’s long-term football career.

Everyone at The Spurs Web would like to wish Nile all the best for the future.

Ossie Ardiles names the 'extraordinary' thing Postecoglou did last season at Spurs

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Ossie Ardiles has said that Ange Postecoglou deserves immense credit for instantly turning Tottenham Hotspur into an attacking side when he arrived through the door.

Postecoglou’s first season at Spurs

Postecoglou arrived at Hotspur Way at a tumultuous time, with the club reeling on the back of a disappointing eighth-place finish in 2022-23 and with the relationship between the fans and the Spurs hierarchy at an all-time low after the failed Antonio Conte experiment.

Spurs had also been a counter-attacking side for three years when the Australian walked through the gates but he wasted no time in implementing his philosophy, transforming the Lilywhites into a possession-based front-foot side.

Tottenham’s style of play under Postecoglou was not too dissimilar to the football that the North London side played under Ardiles, with the Argentine remarking that the two share a similar idea of football.

The Spurs legend told Football:London: “Certainly, the most important thing I would say is the attitude, the philosophy. The philosophy is always the same. Always thinking about the other goal, not so much in our goal. Yeah, go and attack. Go and put pressure, go.

“Ange doesn’t speculate at all. They’re not saying ‘no, we are going to put 10 people behind the ball and we’re going to defend and then maybe counterattack because they play that way’. No, no, no.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He only thinks about his team and go, and then the other team has to react. That is a kind of total philosophy to be perfectly honest and always has been, and I’m very happy to say it’s my philosophy also.”

Ossie is happy to return to the Spurs way

Ardiles is certainly happy to see an attack-minded coach at Tottenham after the club veered away from their traditions in the years prior.

When asked if it is important for Spurs to have a manager who plays on the front foot, the 72-year-old responded: “100%. Yes, absolutely, and Ange, in fact, as soon as he arrived immediately changed the perception of the club. He made the connection between him, the players and the crowd. Very, very close, Very, very important.

“Only we had lost a little bit before. We had it when Mauricio Pochettino was there and he created a very good atmosphere the club.

“You could feel it and we lost it after and Ange was incredibly quick to come back with this kind of atmosphere. So yes, I mean, it was extraordinary what he achieved in such a short period of time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one advantage that attack-minded managers have at Spurs is that the supporters will give them slightly more leeway if results are poor.

However, given the turgid football that the likes of Conte and Mourinho were delivering, the fans were always going to turn on them the second the results became unfavourable.
