Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for another season of Premier League football and it seems as though captain Heung-min Son is ready to hit the ground running.

Heung-min Son is raring to go at Tottenham

Since Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich last summer, Spurs have relied upon Heung-min Son more than ever in terms of carrying the club’s goalscoring burden.

The South Korean star carried it with aplomb last season, netting 17 goals and recording another 10 assists in 35 Premier League matches for Spurs (TransferMarkt).

It remains to be seen whether Son will return to his usual left-wing berth this year, or whether Ange Postecoglou will continue to deploy him down the middle as a number 9 – as he did in the recent friendly against Hearts.

Heung-min Son is looking sharp in training

Sonny has now taken part in two pre-season friendlies this summer, one behind closed doors against Cambridge United and one on SpursPLAY against Hearts. Spurs won these games 7-2 and 5-1 respectively.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Son scored a brace against Cambridge and started the match against Hearts, although he didn’t find the back of the net in his 45-minute cameo on Wednesday.

It seems the forward is looking sharp in training behind closed doors though, with sources telling Alasdair Gold that Son has looked ‘amazing’ since returning to training.

Gold said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “That was one thing I was told, a couple of people said that Sonny looked amazing. Apparently, he looked so sharp like he hadn’t even been away. So that’s good news, that’s very good news.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I really want Tottenham to sign a new centre-forward so we can move Son back out wide this season. I think it gives the whole team a much better balance to it, plus Spurs need a target man in the middle.

Report: What is happening with Dele Alli at Everton after new Tottenham agreement

Description

Tottenham reached a new agreement with Everton over the transfer of Dele Alli this month, but what is happening with the former England midfielder in Merseyside?

Dele Alli was a generational talent

Dele Alli was once seen as the next generational talent in English football, having made the leap from League One football to Premier League stardom when he joined Tottenham Hotspur.

Posting numbers that shadowed even the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes at that age, it seemed as though the sky was the limit for young Dele.

However, a drop in form coincided with Mauricio Pochettino leaving the North London club and Dele struggled to recreate the promise he showed in his early years.

He has since opened up on his off-field struggles with mental health, but is determined to work his way back to the top of the game, starting with pre-season at Everton.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What next for Dele Alli?

BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella reported earlier this month that Tottenham had come to an agreement with Everton to waive their payment terms in the original Dele Alli transfer.

This would allow Everton to take Dele on over pre-season without any financial risk, but it appears he is not yet guaranteed a spot in Sean Dyche’s 2024/25 squad.

The Athletic report that Everton remain undecided on Dele’s future and will look at him over pre-season before deciding whether to hand him a new contract and a chance next season.

If he fails to impress, Dele will have to find himself a new club this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Every single Spurs fan, and every football fan in general, wants to see Dele Alli get back to his best. But he needs support every step of the way to reach that goal. I just hope he receives that support, time and patience.

Journalist is worried about what some Spurs fans are saying about 25

Milan News journalist Pietro Mazzara is worried about how some Tottenham fans are reacting to the idea of AC Milan signing Emerson Royal this summer.

Emerson Royal to AC Milan has gone cold

Emerson has been linked with a potential move to the San Siro throughout the summer transfer window, but a deal appears to be no closer than it was when the window first opened.

Alasdair Gold recently revealed that Milan had only offered £8.6m for the Brazilian right-back, which is half of what Tottenham want to earn from his sale this summer.

Emerson Royal himself told Globo last month that he wants to play regular first-team football next season, even admitting that AC Milan had shown an interest in him.

Fabrizio Romano went as far as to report that a five-year contract has already been agreed between the Serie A giants and the Tottenham defender.

More recently, with talks between Spurs and Milan going cold, GiveMeSport reported that Borussia Dortmund, Al-Nassr and Al-Qadsiah are all keen on signing Royal this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Is Emerson a good fit for AC Milan?

That has come as music to the ears of Pietro Mazzara, who has doubts over whether the Brazilian right-back is the best fit for AC Milan, especially as plenty of Spurs fans seem happy at the prospect of a sale.

He told Radio Rossonera: “Are we sure that Emerson Royal would be an upgrade compared to Calabria and Kalulu? Reading around the thoughts of the Tottenham fans, it almost seemed like they were praying that Milan would sign him.

“Milan tried to sign a player who is evidently not a first choice at Tottenham and who perhaps would have had a certain impact from a physical point of view in Italy. However, he lacks certain features.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would be very surprised if Emerson Royal was still a Spurs player come the end of the transfer window.

I would also be surprised if someone wasn’t willing to pay around £15m for him. In a different league, especially Serie A, I think his more defensive attributes would work really well.

Report: Spurs linked with player who previously felt a move to the club was 'below' his level

Description

When it comes to the transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have a history of being linked with players across multiple windows spread across many years.

Adrien Rabiot is no exception to this rule with the Frenchman having been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as far back as the winter window of 2018.

The midfielder, who at the time was in the last six months of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain was reported to have had his eyes on a move to a club bigger than Tottenham, a club he feels is ‘below’ his level (ESPN).

The French international did decide to run down his contract with the Ligue 1 giants and instead moved to Juventus on a free transfer.

After racking up 212 appearances with the Serie A side, Juventus confirmed on Thursday that the 29-year-old had left the Old Lady upon expiry of his contract.

Rabiot won a Serie A title, two Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup during his time in Turin.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tutto Juve have now provided an update on Rabiot’s future and claimed that Tottenham have shown an interest in signing the player on a free transfer.

It is said that Rabiot is ‘approaching the Premier League’ where Tottenham are keen on his signature, while North London rivals Arsenal are also keen.

Rabiot played five times at the Euro 2024 in Germany – where France were knocked out by eventual winners Spain in the semi-finals.

SpursWeb Opinion

Previous reports of Rabiot not feeling that Tottenham were not at his level will certainly have soured any interest in the player from some sections of the fanbase.

There is no doubt that as a free agent, he will want a sizeable signing-on fee and a hefty wage packet.

Underlying reason could prevent Spurs midfielder's exit this summer despite plenty of interest

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with plenty of incoming already in the current transfer window, however, one issue at the club could have a factor on some of their business in the market.

An Oliver Skipp exit looks to be difficult

Tottenham will have to name a 25-man squad to the Premier League for next season. Within that, clubs cannot register more than 17 non-homegrown players on the list and the remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25, must be considered to be homegrown.

With Tottenham having qualified for the Europa League as a result of their fifth-place finish, this is where the situation becomes slightly more complicated since the North Londoners need four club-trained players in their squad.

Oliver Skipp is the only established club-trained player left within the first team, following the exits of Japhet Tanganga and Troy Parrott along with last summer’s departures of Harry Winks and Harry Kane.

Skipp’s homegrown status may mean he remains with Spurs

Goalkeepers Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman both qualify for the status and will likely have to bring at last one up from the U21s list to fill the gap.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Sky Sports are reporting that Skipp is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Premier League newcomers Leicester City, however, he is unlikely to leave due to the situation which Tottenham find themselves in.

Skipp started just five games under Ange Postecoglou last season, with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Pape Matar Sarr ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.

SpursWeb Opinion

Many hoped that Skipp would have kicked on following his successful loan spell at Norwich City a couple of years back, but has been unable to make an impact to hold down a regular first-team place.

There’s no questioning his stamina, however, he does not have an out and out strength to his game and seems to have fallen into some of the same habits which Harry Winks did during his latter stages in N17 of just passing the ball sideways.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall name the funniest members of the Spurs squad

During a recent Q&A Reddit post, newcomers Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall revealed their picks for the funniest Spurs player.

The new boys make a big Spurs splash

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall both made their Tottenham debuts last night against Hearts, albeit in a non-competitive friendly.

Gray played the first 45 minutes at centre-back, despite never having played there before, and Bergvall came on at half-time to pull the strings for Spurs in midfield.

Fresh off of their impressive debut performances during Spurs’ 5-1 against Hearts, our two new signings sat down to answer a few of your questions in the r/coys subreddit.

One user asked the pair who they thought was the funniest player on the team. They haven’t spent much time at Hotspur Way yet, so their answers may shock you!

Being a young English lad, Archie Gray told us that the funniest player in the squad is “Definitely Fraser Forster”.

MORE SPURS STORIES

You can see how that dynamic would work with Fraser taking Archie under his wing; we’ve seen Fraser’s antics in action before as he swapped shirts with Maddison during media day to pull off quite the look. (YouTube)

Bergvall says Bissouma is the funniest Spurs player

When asked the same question, Lucas Bergvall named Mali international Yves Bissouma as the ultimate Spurs jokester; he’s quoted as saying, “Bissouma! so much energy and a great guy”. (Reddit)

Spurs Web Opinion

The new boys are settling nicely into the dressing room with senior figures, seeing the young lads blend in well.

I do not doubt that Spurs’ media team will take full advantage of their youthful exuberance and general cheeky demeanours.

Report provides update on four strikers linked with Tottenham this summer

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are still hunting for a new striker this summer, and the latest update reveals a cut-price deal could be made for one target, while two Premier League forwards may now be off the shortlist.

Spurs don’t want Ivan Toney or Dominic Solanke

It’s now almost one year since Harry Kane left Tottenham, and the club still have not signed a proper replacement for their star forward.

However, it seems that will change at some point this summer. Now, a report from GiveMeSport has shed some light on a handful of the targets the club has lined up.

Lille’s Jonathan David appears to be the most feasible and most desired proposition now. He is into the final 12 months of his current contract and could be available for as little as £25m this summer.

Spurs have a “long-standing interest” in the Canada international, but will face competition from Newcastle United, Chelsea, and West Ham.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites are also “tracking” Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, but the club is seemingly distancing itself from reports that a bid for Ivan Toney has been submitted, or that they are interested in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Will Toney join Man United?

Tottenham’s stance on Toney may well be influenced by reports suggesting the Brentford striker has made it clear he would rather join Manchester United (Football Insider).

The interest in David is nothing new, of course. According to MSN, Ange Postecoglou is ‘obsessed’ with the forward and has been for some time.

Spurs Web Opinion

If it comes down to value for money, you can’t really argue with £25m for Jonathan David. He’s a proven goalscorer — albeit in Ligue 1 — and he’s exactly the kind of target man we need.

I like Gimenez, too, and I would have been happy with Toney but he clearly doesn’t want to come to Spurs.

Spurs newcomers answer funny question about surviving training with Cuti Romero

Submitted by daniel on

Description

During their latest Reddit Q&A, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were asked whether they are more scared about debuting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or facing teammate Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero in training.

Cuti is coming

Cristian Romero has successfully defended his Copa America title and will return to Spurs on a significant high after his mandatory holiday.

As most non-international players have only just returned to training, there will be a brief respite before Romero returns and starts flying into tackles, blood and thunder again.

Last year, Sergio Reguilon posted on his social media just how welcoming Romero can be in training, sharing a snap of his bloody leg with the caption “Cuti is back”. That little insight shows us just how committed Romero is in training. (Express)

Gray and Bergvall give a diplomatic answer

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were asked on Reddit what the scariest upcoming moment would be: debuting at the stadium or facing Cuti in training.

MORE SPURS STORIES

After having made their Tottenham debuts in the 5-1 friendly win over Hearts, Gray and Bergvall took a diplomatic stance to the question and simply claimed they were looking forward to both. Best to keep Romero on side, after all.

Archie replied on behalf of Bergvall: “That’s a tough question to answer I think both are more exciting than scary, both me and Lucas are looking forward to make our debut and meet Cuti!”. (Reddit)

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero’s hardness will only toughen up Gray and Bergvall, as they won’t have experienced anything as intense in their careers in training before attack and defence drills when they have to dribble past ‘Cuti’.

I look forward to a blossoming friendship in which Romero will try to kick them, and Tottenham’s new young stars eventually learn how to shuffle their feet and beat him with the ball. Good luck, lads, wear your shinpads.

Report: Sources believe there is one club which could tempt Postecoglou away from Spurs in future

Tottenham Hotspur are now into the second year of the Ange Postecoglou era in North London.

Ange Postecoglou is now in his second year in charge of Spurs

The Australian has helped to reinvigorate the North London fanbase with a brand of free-flowing football after the counter-attacking styles of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed to deliver success, or enthusiasm in the stands.

A fifth-placed finish in the Premier League table last season saw the club secure a return to European football, albeit in the Europa League after some indifferent form saw them lose out to Aston Villa in the race for the final Champions League spot.

Only one club is said to have the potential to turn Ange’s head

Postecoglou is said to be among the shortlist for the vacant England head coach vacancy following Gareth Southgate’s resignation, yet Tottenham have no concerns of losing their head coach (The Telegraph).

The report claims that sources believe that the only job which could lure Postecoglou away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would be the Manchester City position, if and when Pep Guardiola departs the current Premier League champions.

MORE SPURS STORIES

SpursWeb Opinion

Some may think that Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board struck gold when they appointed Ange Postecoglou with disenchantment high among the fanbase after the Antonio Conte era.

Tottenham need to do all they can to ensure that the Australian is happy in the job and has the tools at his disposal to bring success back to N17.

Report: Postecoglou gives verdict on Djed Spence's status at Spurs after Hearts cameo

Submitted by daniel on

Description

It was a surprise for most Tottenham fans to see Djed Spence involved with the Tottenham team that travelled to play Hearts in pre-season, and there was an even bigger shock when the right-back was thrown on.

Spence has been heavily linked with a Spurs exit

Djed Spence has experienced multiple tough years since joining Tottenham from Middlesborough.

The 23-year-old was branded as a ‘club signing’ by divisive manager, Antonio Conte, subsequently being given minimal minutes before being loaned to Leeds United shortly after Ange Postocoglou’s arrival. (TalkSport)

It appeared as though Spence burned his bridges at Leeds with the club ending his loan prematurely, forcing Tottenham to find the full-back a January loan (Evening Standard).

Genoa took the former Nottingham Forest loanee to Italy and despite Spence putting in some good performances, he couldn’t stay permanently due to Tottenham’s price being too dear for the Seria A outfit. (BBC Sport)

Despite Genoa’s failed attempts to sign Spence permanently, The Athletic confirmed that Djed Spence, alongside Sergio Reguilon, is likely to depart North London this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spence impressed on his first Spurs game since last pre-season

Djed Spence hadn’t featured in Lilywhite since Spurs’ last pre-season game of 2023/24 against Barcelona, but shockingly came on against Hearts and proved that perhaps there is room for redemption as the defender grabbed a goal and an assist.

When asked about Spence’s future with Spurs, Ange Postecoglou said: “Djed did well. He had had a tough couple of years. He is training with us, and I think with all of the players when they are here with us, I treat them as Tottenham players unless something suddenly changes.”

Further concluding that his display against Hearts was impressive stating: “He was good tonight. Took his goal well, he contributed well and got an assist”. (Jay Harris on X)

Spurs Web opinion

It remains to be seen how Spence is utilised in the upcoming games, given he isn’t sold before then, but it’s undeniable that should the 23-year-old reach the levels he was playing at when on loan with Nottingham Forest, he would be good competition for Porro next season, the biggest concern would be his attitude.

The fact that Spence was booted out of Leeds United for his attitude is hardly going to go down well with the club and Postecoglou, who appear to place great importance on his squad’s character.

I believe that should Spence stay it would be the right move with the Postecoglou unlikely to keep Spence if he has concerns over his demeanour.
