Speculation surrounding the future of Heung-min Son at Tottenham Hotspur has finally been put to rest, with the club taking decisive action to ensure their captain remains at the heart of their plans.

The uncertainty around Heung-min Son’s contract

The contract of Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has been a hot topic throughout the season, with his future at the North London club appearing increasingly uncertain as time went on.

The South Korean forward, who has been pivotal for the Lilywhites since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, found himself at the centre of swirling rumours and conjecture about whether his time at the club might be nearing its end.

For a player who has brought so much joy to the fanbase and consistently performed on some of the biggest stages, the idea of him leaving without a clear resolution seemed incongruous.

Now, it appears that the uncertainty is set to be decisively addressed, laying such doubts to rest.

Tottenham Hotspur trigger one-year clause in Heung-min Son’s contract

Tottenham Hotspur have officially activated the one-year extension clause in Heung-min Son’s contract, ensuring that the South Korean forward remains a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad as they continue to push for silverware this season.

It is official, Tottenham Hotspur have now exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026 – reads the statement from the official Tottenham Hotspur site.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This move effectively halts any ambitions rival clubs might have harboured of securing Son’s services without a transfer fee.

What Son’s loyalty means for Tottenham’s future

Should Heung-min Son go on to sign a new longer-term deal, it would extend his tenure at the club into an astonishing decade, a rare achievement in modern football that speaks volumes about his loyalty and dedication to Tottenham Hotspur.

The South Korean star has already cemented his legacy at the club, breaking records and setting new benchmarks with his contributions on and off the pitch.

Yet, despite his personal accolades, there remains a glaring void in his career—silverware. For a player of Son’s calibre, to retire without a trophy would seem almost unthinkable, particularly given the passion and commitment he has shown to the North London outfit.

With Tottenham still competing in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and the Europa League this season, there is a tangible opportunity for Son to lead the club to long-awaited glory.

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as one of several clubs vying for the services of Randal Kolo Muani, as his future hangs in the balance at PSG and with a move on the cards this January, the French international is now set to pick from half a dozen clubs.

Kolo Muani and PSG: a parting on the horizon?

Randal Kolo Muani, currently plying his trade at Paris Saint-Germain, is seeking a way out of the French capital during the January transfer window, and it appears that his current club are more than willing to facilitate his departure.

Despite his recent struggles for form at PSG, the 26-year-old forward remains a highly sought-after talent, with several clubs expressing interest in securing his signature.

Reports suggest that PSG are open to a loan deal for Kolo Muani, with the inclusion of an option to make the move permanent being a preferred condition.

Tottenham Hotspur, among other clubs, have reportedly initiated contact with Kolo Muani’s representatives.

While discussions are ongoing, the competition for the Frenchman’s services remains fierce, with a number of European giants also monitoring his situation closely.

Tottenham is among the suitors for Randal Kolo Muani

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Randal Kolo Muani has been confirmed by TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who revealed that Spurs are one of the half-dozen clubs in active discussions with the player’s camp.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The French international now holds the key to his future, as his decision will determine which direction his career takes.

Adding weight to the urgency of his decision, French national team manager Didier Deschamps has reportedly advised Kolo Muani to leave PSG and ensure his next move aligns with his career ambitions.

Why Tottenham should prioritise Kolo Muani

TBR Football have suggested that any deal for Randal Kolo Muani would likely be structured as a loan with an option to buy, a scenario that could benefit Tottenham Hotspur, given their need to bolster their attacking options.

Richarlison’s ongoing injury struggles have left Ange Postecoglou’s side light in the forward department, making Kolo Muani’s versatility an attractive proposition for Spurs.

Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan are also in the race, with Juventus reportedly seeking a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, further intensifying the competition for Kolo Muani’s signature.

However, Tottenham’s interest could prove decisive, as the forward’s attributes align well with Postecoglou’s high-energy, attacking philosophy.

Ange Postecoglou has been handed a boost ahead of his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final third leg showdown with Liverpool on Wednesday, with a three previously unavailable players trained on Monday.

Tottenham’s biggest clash of the season coming up

A top-four finish now looks beyond Tottenham this season, who are currently reeling in 12th place in the table.

The Carabao Cup has taken a huge amount of importance in N17, with a number of reports suggesting that the two legs of the semi-final against Liverpool could go a long way towards determining the Postecoglou’s future as manager of Tottenham.

A big defeat on Wednesday for Spurs, similar to the one Liverpool inflicted on them at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, could potentially be a point of no return for the current project underway in North London.

Ange Postecoglou welcomes three new faces to training

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe, who is often one of the first to break developments internally at Hotspur Way, has revealed that Postecoglou will have some new players to call upon for Wednesday’s clash.

He reports that Richarlison and Mikey Moore joined the team to train on Monday, with the former recovering from a hamstring issue and the latter from an illness.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The duo were joined in training by new signing Antonin Kinsky, who is potentially in line to start for Spurs should Fraser Forster not recover sufficiently from the bug he contracted last week.

Additionally, Rodrigo Bentancur, who was suspended for the 2-1 defeat against Newcastle, will also be back for the tie against the Arne Slot’s side.

Postecoglou will be waiting impatiently for the return of two players

Even with Richarlison and Moore back, the Tottenham first-team squad remains severely under-strength at the moment, with Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Odobert remaining sidelined.

The treatment tables at Hotspur Way do not look as crowded as they did a couple of weeks ago, but Postecoglou will be particularly keen to have Romero and Van de Ven back.

The Australian’s system is reliant on having pacy, aggressive centre-backs, who are good on the ball, and Spurs would undoubtedly be a transformed side with their first-choice centre-back pairing.

Recent struggles at the back have forced Tottenham Hotspur to search for reinforcements, and the North London side is now eyeing a young Ligue 1 talent – Abdukodir Khusanov. However, they are not the only Premier League club interested in the rising star.

Tottenham’s defensive struggles exposed

Ange Postecoglou has faced a challenging few weeks at the helm of Tottenham Hotspur, as injuries have left his defensive line severely depleted.

The Australian manager has been without his first-choice centre-backs, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, for an extended period, a situation that has coincided with a dip in form for the team.

Adding to the defensive woes, Tottenham’s dependable full-back Destiny Udogie has also been sidelined for six weeks, leaving the backline stretched thin.

With only Radu Dragusin fully fit and the young midfielder Archie Gray forced into a makeshift defensive role, the Lilywhites have struggled to maintain any form of momentum.

In light of these challenges, Tottenham have turned their attention to strengthening their defence, setting their sights on a promising Ligue 1 defender who could provide both immediate support and long-term potential.

Tottenham target Abdukodir Khusanov

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham view Khusanov as a player with significant upside.

MORE SPURS STORIES

With Romero and Van de Ven expected to return to full fitness in the near future, the North London club sees the Lens defender as a long-term investment who can slot into their plans seamlessly.

The report notes that Tottenham view Khusanov as a promising option, highlighting his youth and potential for growth, especially as their primary central defenders, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, are expected to regain full fitness in the near future.

Lens have reportedly placed a price tag of €15m-€20m (£12.45m-£16.6m) on Khusanov, a valuation that has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including reigning champions Manchester City.

Sources suggest that Pep Guardiola’s side has already made enquiries about the player and plans to meet again soon regarding a potential transfer.

It is believed that City could table an opening bid of €10m (£8.3m) as they seek to revitalise their squad ahead of the 2025 campaign.

The potential impact of Khusanov on Tottenham’s future

Although Khusanov is contracted to Lens until 2027, the reported price tag of €15m-€20m appears reasonable for a player of his potential.

The question now is whether Tottenham can outmanoeuvre their Premier League rivals to secure the Uzbekistan international’s services.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool: Carabao Cup semi-final preview

Description

Spurs face a daunting test as they host Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs find themselves in a crunch Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Liverpool. Should we be excited or just concerned? As a Spurs fan, I’d love to feel excitement, but honestly, concern seems more appropriate right now. Let’s face it, 2025 hasn’t been kind to us so far, and this season has been a rollercoaster—without the highs.

Tottenham vs Liverpool in the Carabao Cup

It’s been a depressing campaign. Earlier, it was just the dreadful away form, but now home fixtures have joined the party. Spurs are back from a 1-2 defeat against Newcastle, and honestly, I’m just happy to catch a break from the Premier League.

Still, here we are, in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup! Believe it or not, Spurs have managed to scrape their way through. But the positives don’t feel all that positive when you consider the opponent—Liverpool.

Spurs’ record against Liverpool? One win in 15 matches, and even that was shrouded in controversy. Playing Liverpool doesn’t exactly fill Spurs fans with hope; in fact, fans are already dreading the second leg at Anfield. The last time Spurs won there? More than a decade ago. And let’s not forget two weeks ago when Liverpool thumped Spurs 6-3. Defensive organisation? Non-existent. But hey, at least they scored three against the European giants. Not everyone does that!

What time does Tottenham vs Liverpool Carabao Cup semi-final kick-off?

How both teams go into Tottenham v Liverpool

Spurs come into this match on the back of a heart-wrenching loss to Newcastle. A fair referee might have seen Spurs up a goal and the visitors down to 10 men, but here we are. Passion and desperation were aplenty, but they don’t win games—converting chances does. And the squad, fatigued and riddled with injuries, hasn’t been up to the task.

Liverpool, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Manchester United. That result isn’t exactly impressive—who hasn’t beaten United this season? (Sorry, had to throw that one in.) But Arne Slot’s Liverpool have been unbeaten in their last 24 matches since the loss to Nottingham Forest. Who’s going to ruin their run? COYS (it’s a tough ask).

Tottenham team news

No surprises here—Spurs’ injury list is still depressingly long. Vicario, Odobert, Richarlison, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie, and Davies remain sidelined. I’ve typed their names so often that my keyboard now suggests them automatically when I type “injury.”

There’s still no update on Moore’s recovery or Dragusin’s availability. If Moore is fit, I’d prefer him to start on the left over Son—he’s incredibly talented. However, it’s unlikely Ange will bench Son again, especially since that was a significant decision against Newcastle. As for Dragusin, he had a poor outing in that match, so if he doesn’t feature, Reguilon should step in. Reguilon has been solid for Spurs so far, so there’s nothing to criticise there.

Pape Sarr and James Maddison will be unavailable due to suspensions, likely paving the way for a midfield trio of Bentancur, Kulusevski, and Bissouma. I’d love to see Bergvall get a start after his standout display against Newcastle, but that seems unlikely.

New signing Antonin Kinsky has been impressive with his previous team, with an 83.9% passing success rate in the Europa League, but he’s more likely to debut in the FA Cup than in this fixture. For now, Austin looks set to start in goal after his commendable debut.

Liverpool team news

Liverpool have far fewer concerns. Joe Gomez is out with a hamstring injury, and Ibrahima Konaté is doubtful, as Slot admitted he isn’t ready for back-to-back starts after his return. Still, Slot has a solid B team to lean on (jealous much? Spurs don’t even have an A-team right now), meaning we could see some big names rested.

An obvious threat for Liverpool would be the Egyptian king, Mo Salah, but Arne Slot won’t be starting him (hopefully, he’s generous enough to do so), so I’ll give you another name; Federico Chiesa, I couldn’t find any stats of his I could display this season but he’s a wonderful player who’s missed out a lot already, so he’ll be a threat to Spurs.

Predicted Tottenham line-up

Austin; Porro, Gray, Spence, Reguilon; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Bissouma; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Player to watch: Dominic Solanke. He’s scored twice in two EFL Cup starts and has been a workhorse, playing full 90 minutes in Spurs’ last four matches.

Tottenham vs Liverpool Carabao Cup insights

When you look at Liverpool’s game against Manchester United, it’s clear how United managed to hold the European giants. United knew Liverpool thrive on counter-attacks, so they sat back and ensured their defenders stayed disciplined. Whenever any of Liverpool’s front three received the ball, the nearest defender pounced to intercept, while the others held their positions.

This aggressive approach worked well, though it’s worth noting it comes with the risk of yellow cards. The key will be stopping Liverpool’s progressive passes—when they can’t advance, they struggle. Bissouma, over to you (but maybe hold off on getting a red card).

Another area to watch is Liverpool’s lethal use of long balls. Spurs know a bit too well about this. They must focus on narrowing spaces and limiting Liverpool’s ability to play those long balls. Winning aerial duels will be crucial too.

On the attacking front, Spurs should exploit Liverpool’s right side. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who plays more as a midfielder, leaves gaps in the backline. United’s two goals against Liverpool came from this side, and it makes perfect sense for Spurs to follow suit. In short, sit back, intercept, and look to progress through tight spaces on the right.

I mean, if United can do it, I’m sure Spurs have a fair chance as well. However, the problem is that United’s performance can’t be replicated. As Russell Martins said, Ange is a man of conviction, and in football, strong conviction isn’t always a good thing. Sometimes it feels more like Spurs don’t have a plan B rather than calling it “conviction,” and that has cost them some crucial points this season.

Ange won’t make his team sit back and wait—they’ll still play a high line and build from the back with that defence against Europe’s best attack, which just doesn’t make any sense to me. His conviction is admirable, but sometimes it feels more like stubbornness.

Our prediction

One can dream, right? This is Spurs’ best chance at silverware, and Ange knows it. He “always wins things” in his second season, so let’s hope Arne Slot’s wish for Ange to lift a trophy comes true!

Tottenham’s history in cup semi-finals: Do they stand a chance vs Liverpool?

Submitted by daniel on

Description

The first leg of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool is fast approaching, but do Tottenham have a positive history in cup semi-finals?

Tottenham’s last ten semi-finals

Tottenham are historically a cup team. Of the 26 trophies Tottenham Hotspur have won, 23 are from cup or Supercup tournaments.

That being said, Spurs’ recent history details a failure to get across the line in their domestic and European cup endeavours.

You have to go back to 2009 in order to accumulate ten semi-final results for Tottenham. Of these 10, Spurs have won only four. League Cup semis vs Burnley, Sheffield United and Brentford, in addition to the memorable win against Ajax in the Champions League.

Two of the six losses came against Portsmouth and Manchester United in the FA Cup, while the remaining four were all against Chelsea (two each in the League Cup and FA Cup).

Overcoming ‘stronger’ opponents is a matter of resources

The term ‘Spursy’ at its core, is born from Tottenham’s seeming inability to get beyond opponents in knockout games and seize opportunity.

However, losses in finals to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, all ignore the quality and depth of the opponents’ squads.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The last time Tottenham made it to the League Cup semi-finals, they played Chelsea and lost 2-0 and 1-0 across the two legs. In these fixtures, Chelsea were able to call upon the likes of N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic from their bench. Whereas comparatively, Spurs frequently have youth players as their primary rotation options.

Once again, in the upcoming match, Liverpool has the option of bringing on a variety of senior internationals from their bench. Tottenham are still struggling with an injury-stricken team and will have to find unprecedented solutions against the side currently top of the Premier League table.

Tottenham have a dilemma for their semi-final approach

Ange Postecoglou will never abandon his footballing philosophy, however, it is imperative that Tottenham are still in the tie for the second leg at Anfield.

Spurs are still dealing with numerous injuries and after conceding six goals at home to Liverpool only a few games ago, a conservative approach may help Spurs stay in the tie. By February, Tottenham should have the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero back and could be in a better position to compete.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are gearing up for a showdown in the Carabao Cup, fans on both sides will be eager to see whether Spurs can turn the tide against a Liverpool team in scintillating form. Let’s find out how you can watch the game.

Tottenham vs Liverpool: The build-up to a thrilling Carabao Cup encounter

As the Carabao Cup reaches its decisive stages, Tottenham are set to host Liverpool in a high-profile clash.

Their previous meeting in the Premier League was nothing short of a goal-fest, with Liverpool prevailing in a stunning 6-3 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Since then, Spurs’ form has faltered even more, securing only one point out of a possible nine across three league fixtures – their most recent setback was a frustrating 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United—a match that underscored their vulnerability against top-tier opposition.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been cruising at the summit of the Premier League table. However, their air of invincibility wavered slightly in their most recent outing as they were held to a 2-2 draw by a struggling Manchester United side.

This Carabao Cup tie presents a change of scenery for both teams— on one hand, Tottenham have fought their way to the semi-finals with spirited performances. On the other hand, Liverpool’s depth and quality, even in cup ties, will undoubtedly make this a challenging evening for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

When and where is the match

The first leg of this intriguing semi-final will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with an 8pm UK time kick-off.

Team news: Spurs’ absentees and Liverpool’s edge

Tottenham’s injury list continues to pose significant challenges for Postecoglou. Wilson Odobert, Guglielmo Vicario, Mikey Moore, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, Richarlison, and Destiny Udogie will all be sidelined.

On a positive note, Rodrigo Bentancur is available for selection after serving his suspension against Wolves, offering a much-needed boost to Spurs’ midfield.

Liverpool’s camp, by contrast, is relatively injury-free, with the exception of Joe Gomez, who remains out with a hamstring issue. Slot’s side boasts a fully fit attack, and their options off the bench might give them a crucial edge in this match.

The Spurs Web prediction

Predicting the outcome of such a pivotal clash is always a challenge, especially given the contrasting forms of the two sides.

Liverpool have demonstrated their ability to dismantle Tottenham earlier this season, and their position at the top of the Premier League reflects their dominance.

However, Spurs are known for their resilience, and if Liverpool opts to rotate their squad, Postecoglou’s team might find themselves with an opportunity to capitalise.

Taking inspiration from Manchester United’s spirited display against Liverpool, Spurs might find a way to exploit any weaknesses in Slot’s line-up.

With home support and a point to prove, there’s every chance Tottenham could edge this one. My prediction? I am going to go rogue here and say a bold 3-1 win for Spurs. Come on you Spurs!

How Spurs scouted Antonin Kinsky using data the Johan Lange way

Submitted by daniel on

Description

We now know how Tottenham Hotspur identified their newest signing Antonin Kinsky as a target and why the Spurs hierarchy decided to sign him so swiftly in January.

Another Tottenham signing made out of the blue

Unlike the previous Tottenham regime headed by Fabio Paratici, where the club’s top targets were almost public knowledge, this current regime prefers to operate in secrecy.

They would have thus been pleased with the fact that almost no outlet or journalist caught a whiff of the Antonin Kinsky deal until a full agreement had been struck with Slavia Prague and the goalkeeper arrived in London for a media on Saturday.

The 21-year-old might be an unknown quantity among Spurs fans but is seen as a generational talent back in Czechia. Not only has he impressed with his shot-stopping but he is also extremely proficient with the ball at his feet.

How Spurs identified Antonin Kinsky

Ryan Taylor has now revealed that it was Spurs‘ technical director Johan Lange who had identified Kinsky through some data algorithms.

The Dane then sent his scouts to watch the youngster in action on several occasions this season, but the journalist explains that Tottenham had initially earmarked him as a target for next summer.

However, the Lilywhites decided to bring forward their plans after seeing Guglielmo Vicario pick up a serious injury.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Will Kinsky go straight into the Tottenham team?

Given that Spurs are paying £12.5m plus add-ons for the youngster, one would expect him to go straight into the starting eleven over Fraser Forster.

It has been widely reported that Postecoglou and his coaching staff see the Englishman’s inability to sweep behind the high defensive line and his decision-making on the ball as big weaknesses.

The Czechia Under-21 international will help remedy that as his ability with his feet and his passing range are among his biggest strengths.

Austin’s footballing journey took a significant turn when he joined Chelsea’s youth system, but it was at Tottenham Hotspur where his potential truly began to flourish.

Joining the Spurs Academy, Austin quickly established himself as a standout talent, making his debut for the Under-18s in 2015 against Reading.

Over the following years, his performances grew increasingly impressive, with highlights including leading the Under-18s to victory in the IMG Cup in Florida and making pivotal saves in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals against his former club, Chelsea.

The making of a first-team regular

Austin’s growth as a player continued through a series of formative experiences. In January 2020, he moved to Danish side Viborg FF on loan, where he gained invaluable senior experience, making 14 appearances.

A subsequent loan spell with Orlando City in the MLS further honed his skills, as he featured in five matches during the 2021 season.

Brandon Austin’s first-team debut

Austin marked a significant milestone in his career during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of South Korea in the summer of 2022.

How much Lecce would charge Tottenham to sign Patrick Dorgu

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Patrick Dorgu has taken an unexpected twist, with Lecce significantly raising their demands for the highly sought-after left-back. This could leave Spurs at risk of missing out on one of their key targets in this transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur’s left-back dilemma

The search for a reliable left-back has been a pressing concern for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks, particularly following the injury setback of Destiny Udogie.

Udogie, who has been a key figure in Tottenham’s defence this season, is set to be sidelined for at least two months, leaving a glaring gap in Ange Postecoglou’s backline and prompting an urgent need to bolster the squad.

Among the names under consideration, Patrick Dorgu of Lecce has emerged as a prime target.

The 20-year-old’s performances have caught the eye across Europe, with his pace, defensive solidity, and ability to contribute to attacking plays making him a highly desirable prospect.

Initial reports suggested that Dorgu would cost Tottenham around £30 million, a fee that seemed within reach. However, as interest in the player has grown, so too has his valuation, complicating the North London club’s efforts to secure his services.

Lecce increase their demand for Patrick Dorgu

Sources close to GIVEMESPORT have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Patrick Dorgu is in jeopardy, as Lecce have raised their asking price well beyond the £30 million mark.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This decision comes in light of heightened interest from several major clubs, both within the Premier League and across Europe, making it clear that Lecce intend to capitalise on the player’s growing reputation.

It is understood that Tottenham’s transfer budget for this window is limited to £25 million, leaving the club in a precarious position.

The publication also reports that negotiations with Lecce are unlikely to be straightforward, as the Italian club is under no obligation to accept offers that fail to meet their revised price tag.

With interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea, as well as Serie A heavyweights Napoli and AC Milan, Lecce are confident they can command a premium fee for the teenager.

A broader perspective on Tottenham’s challenges

While Patrick Dorgu’s potential arrival would undoubtedly bolster Tottenham’s left-back options, the current situation highlights broader issues within the club’s recruitment strategy.

The reliance on a restricted budget, despite the pressing need to strengthen key positions, raises questions about the ambition and long-term planning at the club.

Tottenham’s interest in Dorgu aligns with their strategy of targeting young, high-potential players who can contribute immediately while also representing an investment for the future.

However, the competition from other top-tier clubs underscores the difficulty of executing such a plan in a crowded market.

According to GMS sources, Lecce’s confidence in securing a higher fee is rooted in the widespread attention Dorgu has garnered, which has emboldened the club to push for a price beyond Tottenham’s reach.
