Finance expert says potential boardroom change at Spurs could have a major impact

Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed that Daniel Levy will not take long to make a key appointment after an important position became vacant.

Todd Kline left Tottenham to take up role at Tottenham

Earlier this year, Todd Kline left his role as Tottenham‘s club’s chief commercial officer – a position he held for two years – after accepting an offer to join rivals Chelsea.

The American executive has been on gardening leave over the last few months and it was reported earlier this week that Kline had officially begun working at the West London club.

Journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed the former Spurs man is now working under the title of ‘President, Commercial’ at Chelsea.

Tottenham are expected to announce a new CCO

Kieran Maguire believes Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the decision-makers in N17 will not waste too much time in filling the role vacated by Kline.

The finance expert claimed that Spurs will turn to an experienced executive and that the newcomer will likely have a place on the Tottenham board.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Maguire told TBR Football: “Commercial revenue is one area where clubs have an element of control.

“Therefore, having someone with experience in the role and who can communicate at ‘C’ level is essential.

“I would imagine the commercial director will have a board position because the decisions they make are significant financially in the long term.”

Can Tottenham find a stadium naming rights partner?

One of Kline’s remits at Spurs was to find a naming rights partner for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which he failed to do.

Maguire believes that Levy will be keen to agree on a naming rights deal as soon as possible it could significantly boost the club’s coffers.

When asked about the new COO’s challenge of finding a naming rights partner, Maguire said: “If you’re signing a stadium naming rights deal or shirt deal, these tend to be long-term arrangements.

“Because of that, they have ramifications for the club for many years, so you need someone who can oversee that strategy.

“For a club like Spurs, who have spectacularly increased their commercial revenue since moving to the new stadium, commercial income can have a dramatic effect on the budget and therefore results on the pitch.”

Paul Robinson claims Spurs star's agent is to blame for transfer rumours

Paul Robinson believes that one Tottenham star’s agent has been feeding stories to the press about transfer interest in his client.

Tottenham defender continues to be linked with a move

Radu Dragusin has had to be patient since arriving at Tottenham at the start of the year, but the Romanian is now getting his rewards, featuring regularly for the side in Micky van de Ven‘s injury absence.

However, noises continue to emanate from Italy linking the centre-back with a swift return to Serie A.

Reports over recent weeks have credited Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli with interest in Dragusin ahead of the January window.

Paul Robinson points fingers at Radu Dragusin’s agent

Robinson has accused Dragusin’s entourage of feeding these transfer stories to various outlets.

The former Spurs goalkeeper insisted that Ange Postecoglou‘s men will not let the Romania international leave the club in January under any circumstances.

When asked about the speculation over Dragusin’s future, the pundit told Tottenham News: “Agents do that, players do that. They can get noises out there via various means, and now with the number of media outlets, it only takes one story for you to plant an acorn and soon you’ve got an oak tree.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I don’t think Tottenham do any deals for Dragusin in January, loan or permanent. He’s only just signed and Spurs fans haven’t seen the best of him yet. He will get a run of games with Romero and van de Ven’s injury and disciplinary records. He’ll be frustrated with the lack of game time but there is no way that Spurs will let him go in January.”

What Radu Dragusin’s agent has said in the past

The Tottenham man’s agent, Florian Manea, has unequivocally dismissed suggestions that his client could leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.

Manea told TuttoJuve about the rumours two weeks ago: “I learn about it from the Italian newspapers, I honestly don’t know anything about it (transfer rumours.)

“With Juventus As far as I’m concerned, there have been no contacts. As always, the final say in these cases will be up to the club he belongs to, but the boy is happy here at Tottenham.”

Manea was equally dismissive of the transfer rumours last month, insisting that he has not spoken to anyone about a potential transfer.

He said at the time (via Calcio Napoli 24): “I haven’t spoken to anyone, and I don’t think Tottenham want to let him go. Radu is focused and wants to play his chances with Spurs. I’ve seen the news too, but – I repeat – I haven’t heard from anyone.

“We like that many teams are following him, but I also told the others who called me that – to date – we are not interested. No player is happy if he doesn’t play a lot, but he wants to fight for his place. We’ll see later how many games he plays, and we’ll evaluate, at this moment it’s premature to think about a transfer.”

Tottenham insider John Wenham believes that one Spurs player, who the club have decided to part ways with in January, may not make things easy for the North London side.

Reguilon has already played his last game for the club

It is clear that Sergio Reguilon has already played his final game for Tottenham, with the left-back seemingly not in Ange Postecoglou‘s plans.

It was reported by CaughtOffside last week that the Spain international wants to terminate his deal and leave on a free transfer in January.

The outlet claimed that Spurs are open to paying off the final six months of the defender’s deal as they are keen to get him off their wage bill.

Sergio Reguilon could demand a big payout

John Wenham pointed out that the former Real Madrid man has no incentive to offer Tottenham any sort of concession, given the high salary that he is on.

He suggested that Spurs might have to pay off Reguilon’s full contract if they wish to part ways with the player in January.

When asked about the left-back’s contract update, the Tottenham insider told Tottenham News: “I don’t see any incentive for him to leave unless someone else is willing to match his wages. Tottenham are paying him £100,000-per-week, and he has quite rightly, from his point of view, stuck to that contract.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Unless he agrees to terminate the last six months of his deal, I think he will remain in North London. However, even then, I imagine he will demand at least 80 per cent of his remaining salary.”

Reguilon is generating plenty of transfer interest

Reports over the last few weeks have indicated that the interest in Reguilon’s services is intensifying as we edge closer to the January transfer window.

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is alleged to be keen on reuniting with the defender at Fenerbahce, according to Sabah.

Meanwhile, over in Spain, Reguilon’s former club, Sevilla, are thought to be keen on taking the defender back to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Lucas Bergvall has been speaking to the Swedish media about his start to life at Tottenham Hotspur, commenting on the challenges he has faced so far.

It is a difficult environment for Bergvall to find his feet

Tottenham Hotspur pipped Barcelona to the signing of Bergvall, which garnered significant excitement around the highly-rated 18-year-old.

His start to life at Spurs has been a challenge with relatively few minutes in the Premier League, with more exposure coming in the Europa League amongst heavily rotated squads in more challenging environments.

Yet to display the ability which allowed him to stand out at Djurgårdens IF, Bergvall has been speaking about his time at Tottenham which has seen his performances suffer inconsistency, notably during the 3-2 defeat at Galatasaray.

Bergvall shares his thoughts on his time at Tottenham

Speaking to Fotbolldirekt, Bergvall said: “It has been good, but also a bit up and down, of course.

“It has been tough and many matches, a lot of rotation in the team and mixed results.”

With Spurs suffering from inconsistent form, it is harder to give Bergvall opportunities to grow when every game is vital in Tottenham’s pursuit for trophy success and European qualification.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bergvall’s position has greater demands and will take longer to settle

It is hard to not compare Bergvall, Archie Gray and Mikey Moore due to their age. Gray has arguably put in the strongest performances from fullback so far. However, their experience and roles within the team all differ too much to draw fair comparisons.

While Bergvall has played senior football, the speed of the Premier League and Europa League are proving a significant learning curve. He often comes into a team fulfilling Kulusevksi’s role, who is often asked to help with build-up and carrying throughout midfield.

It will take time for him to develop connections with his teammates and appreciate when he does or does not have time to hold onto the ball.

Bergvall would likely benefit from opportunities playing with the majority of Tottenham’s regular starters who could provide him support and guidance through games, but he may have to wait for that opportunity.

Until then, his ability to grow through adversity and overcome these challenges will benefit him and his development.

David Ginola explains why he was reluctant to join Tottenham from Newcastle

Description

David Ginola makes a big confession about what preceded his move to Tottenham Hotspur and his feelings about leaving Newcastle United.

David Ginola was a huge hit at Spurs

Ginola arrived at Tottenham from Newcastle for a fee of around £2.5m in 1997, and the winger was an instant hit with the White Hart Lane faithful.

The winger’s enterprising and technically elegant style made him a hugely popular figure, with the attacker getting supporters off their seats whenever he got the ball.

The French international was part of the League Cup-winning side in 1999 and even won the PFA Player of the Year award that very same season.

Ginola’s confession about Spurs move

Ginola might have been a huge hit in North London, but he has now confessed that he was never particularly keen on leaving Newcastle.

The winger explained that his fractured relationship with Magpie boss Kenny Dalglish was the main reason why he left St James’ Park.

Ginola said while reflecting on his Newcastle exit in a new book about ‘The Entertainers’: “I didn’t want to leave the club but when Kenny Dalglish took over from Kevin it was a shock and it just wasn’t the same anymore. I argued with Kenny and he didn’t play me much after that.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He tried to get rid of all the foreign players Kevin signed. I was frustrated at the time and I said something in the newspapers that if things don’t change, I will have to leave.

“The following day we had a row. He told me I couldn’t go to the newspapers and say these things. I said, ‘You treat me like I’m having an affair with your wife’.

“He said, ‘How dare you talk to me like that’. I said, ‘At least I’m talking. You never look at me or talk to me.’ He wasn’t the guy to take us to the top, as it was proved. He didn’t make the most of the players we had.

“Under Kevin, it was such a pleasure every day in training and every Saturday away and at St James’ Park, where the atmosphere was magnificent. I miss those days. One day, those happy days will return.”

Ginola is better remembered for his time at Spurs

While Ginola first made a name for himself on these shores at Newcastle, the move to Tottenham helped the winger take his game to a different level.

It is undeniable that the silky Frenchman is more remembered for his time at Spurs and his two-year stint in the North East.

Tottenham express interest in signing Chelsea midfielder on loan

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering raiding Chelsea for one player who finds himself on the fringes of the squad at Stamford Bridge.

The player in question is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has struggled to get a look-in at Chelsea since his big-money switch from Leicester City in the summer.

In fact, the 26-year-old has had just 46 minutes of Premier League football under Enzo Mascarena despite following the Spaniard from the King Power Stadium to London in the summer.

It has now emerged the Blues are willing to loan the player out and this is thought to have piqued Tottenham‘s interest.

Spurs eyeing loan opportunity for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all expressed an interest in landing Dewsbury-Hall on loan in January.

Ange Postecoglou is said to be intent on adding more creativity to Tottenham’s midfield and has identified the Chelsea man as a potential solution.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery is alleged to be a big admirer of the former Leicester man and is keen on bringing him to Villa Park to aid the club’s hopes of securing a top-four finish and making it to the latter stages of the Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs are unlikely to pull off this deal

Chelsea will be wary of sending Dewsbury-Hall on loan to a potential direct rival, and we know that the Stamford Bridge outfit have historically been hesitant to do business with Tottenham.

Additionally, Spurs do not usually sign players on loan, unless the loan comes with an obligation or option to buy, which appears unlikely in the case of Dewsbury-Hall.

Tottenham Hotspur’s defence has been dealt a significant blow after Cristian Romero was released from the Argentine national team following an injury setback.

With a key Premier League clash against Manchester City looming, Spurs now face uncertainty over the fitness of their star centre-back.

Romero’s injury struggles and Spurs’ defensive concerns

Romero has been a fixture in Spurs’ defence this season, starting all eleven Premier League matches and solidifying his place as one of the team’s most reliable players.

A foot injury picked up in Tottenham’s 4-1 victory against Aston Villa had already raised concerns, though the 26-year-old managed to power through and feature in Spurs’ recent 2-1 defeat over Ipswich Town.

Despite the ongoing issue, he was able to complete the match, but things have taken a turn for the worse during his time with Argentina.

In a World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay, Romero suffered further discomfort and was forced off at half-time. As if the timing couldn’t have been worse, this injury comes at a critical point in Tottenham’s season.

With matches against Manchester City, and other top-tier clubs on the horizon, Romero’s absence could leave a significant gap in the centre of defence.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romero’s release and return to London

After his premature departure from Argentina’s squad, news broke that Romero would not be available to play against Peru. Gastón Edul relayed the update in a post on X, stating: “Cuti Romero was released from the Argentine National Team. He doesn’t play against Peru. He is returning to Europe.”

This confirmation sealed what had already been a growing concern for Tottenham fans — that their key defender would be sidelined for the immediate future.

The situation has put Postecoglou in a difficult position, particularly with fellow centre-back Micky van de Ven also unavailable due to injury.

While the defensive partnership of Romero and van de Ven had provided stability to Tottenham’s backline, the manager now faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement.

Who will step up to fill the void left by Romero?

With Romero now a doubt for the upcoming Manchester City match, questions linger about who will step up in his absence.

Tottenham’s options are certainly limited, and the lack of consistency in defence has already been a concern this season.

Spurs’ options in defence are limited, which means we are likely going to see Ben Davies deployed alongside Radu Dragusin if Romero and van de Ven aren’t fit before the trip to the Etihad.

Tottenham’s reliance on Romero has been clear, and with so many vital games ahead, the club will be hoping for a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, Spurs must address the gap in the defence, and Postecoglou will need to make tactical adjustments in what promises to be a pivotal period of the season.

One surprising stat reveals Spurs' most clinical finisher

Description

Tottenham have been prolific in front of goal this season under Ange Postecoglou, but amid the star-studded cast, it’s a surprise name who boasts the most clinical touch in front of goal; a revelation that flips expectations on their head.

Spurs’ scoring prowess under Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham have stormed to the top of the Premier League scoring charts this season, finding the net 23 times in just 11 matches, and their goal tally rises to 35 across all competitions under Postecoglou’s energetic attacking style.

With 17.2 shots per game, they rank second in the league for attempts on goal; however, accuracy hasn’t always been their strong suit, as they also record the second most shots off target, averaging 6.3 per match.

Despite their impressive output, Spurs’ efficiency in converting chances has been inconsistent. They have created 137 opportunities—the third highest in the league—but their joint-third highest tally of 24 missed big chances reveals there is room for improvement.

This duality of sharp attacking flair and wastefulness has made their campaign thrilling yet unpredictable for fans and pundits alike.

Interestingly, the performances of Tottenham’s players in front of goal have shown a wide variance. While new signing Dominic Solanke has garnered attention for his all-round displays, data reveals his underperformance against expected goals (xG), netting four Premier League goals compared to an xG of 6.32. However, within this context of inconsistency, one unexpected name has quietly emerged as the club’s most lethal finisher.

The unexpected clinical star

When assessing Spurs’ attacking output, one might naturally think of Heung-min Son’s sharp finishing, but the data tells a different story. Yves Bissouma, a defensive midfielder by trade, has emerged as Tottenham’s most clinical player this season, defying expectations with his precision in front of goal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Research from Grosvenor Sport has shown that Yves Bissouma is leading the charts as Spurs’ most clical player with an xG of just 0.16 with his two goals, and is followed by Heung-min Son’s -1.56 score.

Bissouma’s contribution is all the more remarkable given his primary role as a disruptor in midfield rather than an attacking focal point. This statistical quirk offers a fascinating insight into how even less heralded players can contribute meaningfully in front of goal when given the opportunity, especially within a system designed to create waves of attacking pressure.

What this means for Spurs moving forward

Tottenham’s ability to spread the goal-scoring burden across the team will be pivotal as they look to sustain their impressive attacking form throughout the season. While Son Heung-min remains the talisman and new striker Dominic Solanke adjusts to life in North London, unexpected contributors like Bissouma are more than welcome to chip in with goals here and there.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Wilson Odobert, the promising young winger, has undergone surgery on his right hamstring after a series of injury setbacks.

Injury woes for Odobert

Wilson Odobert’s journey with Tottenham has been marred by unfortunate injuries, and his latest setback has left fans concerned about the future of the talented 19-year-old.

His hamstring issues first emerged shortly after his summer arrival at Spurs, with the winger sidelined for nearly a month.

The initial injury raised doubts about his ability to make an immediate impact, but after a period of rehabilitation, he made his return in Tottenham’s Europa League fixture against AZ Alkmaar.

However, Odobert’s comeback was short-lived. Despite his enthusiasm to contribute, he suffered a recurrence of the same hamstring injury during the match, dashing any hopes of a prolonged stint in the first team.

Fans were left frustrated by the interruption to his development, especially given the high expectations surrounding the French youth international.

This latest chapter in Odobert’s injury saga came to light yesterday through his own Instagram account, where the winger posted a photo of himself in a London hospital bed.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The image offered a glimpse into his current situation and sparked widespread concern. While his injury was already known, the Instagram story only heightened the uncertainty over when he will be able to return to action and begin fulfilling the potential that Spurs had hoped for when signing him.

Surgery confirmed and next steps

Tottenham confirmed Odobert’s surgery with a statement on the official website: “Copied to clipboard” We can confirm that Wilson Odobert underwent surgery to his right hamstring yesterday (Saturday 16 November).

“The 19-year-old will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training.

The announcement brought clarity to the situation, but also added a layer of concern as fans are now left to wait for further updates on his recovery timeline.

What’s next for Odobert?

Odobert’s injury story has been one of frustration. After initially sidelining him for nearly a month, the recurrence of the issue after his brief return to action against AZ Alkmaar only adds to the sense of misfortune surrounding his Spurs career.

While surgery offers the hope of a thorough recovery, it also raises the possibility of a longer spell on the sidelines.

Despite the setbacks, the young French winger has shown promise during his limited appearances, and Tottenham will be hoping that this surgery will provide a definitive solution to his hamstring issues.

The club’s medical team will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Odobert can return to full fitness and fulfil his potential at Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly explored a deal for a former Premier League winger in the summer, but their efforts fell through due to tax complications.

Tottenham were ready to offer Zaha a route back to PL

Tottenham strengthened their forward line with the signings of Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert in the summer from Bournemouth and Burnley respectively.

It turns out that the club also considered making a move for another attacker who has 305 Premier League appearances under his belt.

The player in question is Wilfried Zaha, who was allegedly the subject of interest from Spurs and other English sides but the transfer fell through because of a tax regulation.

Spurs’ failed move for Wilfried Zaha

This information comes from TBR Football, who say that Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Leicester City considered signing the former Crystal Palace man in the summer.

However, it is explained that the Ivory Coast international would have had to pay income tax both in the UK and Turkey due to the fact he had spent just one year in Istanbul.

Additionally, many of these clubs reportedly baulked at the £9m valuation of the Galatasaray star, which is why he ended up joining Lyon on loan.

Zaha has struggled at Lyon

Zaha’s time at the Ligue 1 club has not gone according to plan so far, with the wide-man having started just one game for Lyon this season (Transfermarkt).

The attacker is currently behind Malick Fofana, Rayan Cherki and Said Benrahma in the pecking order, with Lyon’s issues now having taken a further turn for the worse after the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog decided to hit the Ligue 1 club with a provisional Ligue 2 relegation as well as a transfer ban and the supervision of their wages (NY Times).

Additionally, the relationship between Zaha and Lyon boss Pierre Sage is reportedly strained after the Spurs target missed a training session earlier this season.
