The legendary Ibrox captain was impressed with the on-loan Spurs winger at Ibrox in midweek and has a plan

I was one of the 50,000 fans who walked away from Ibrox on Wednesday night with a new spring in my step.

Having sat through a difficult first 45 minutes by half time I could sense the punters were growing frustrated. Maybe even a bit concerned. One or two of them were starting to growl in the stands..

But an hour later? Without getting carried away, let’s just say Rangers looked and felt like a very different prospect.

A 5-1 win. Three points closer to Hearts at the top of the table with a significant bump in the goal difference. Three clear of Celtic, albeit their game at Pittodrie was postponed.

And with serious reason to believe that all the hard work and expense that went into the January transfer window might be about to pay off big time between now and May.

It really did feel like a significant turnaround in the space of 90 minutes or so and we’ll get around to the impact made by the new boys who came on from the bench and who played such a part in raising the excitement levels.

Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chuwuani, Tuur Rommens and Ryan Naderi all made a big impression on the home crowd as well as having a major influence on the game itself.

But we’ll come to them later.

Because, first and foremost, it’s time to have a conversation about Mikey Moore. And I mean that quite literally.

If it was down to me I’d be on the blower to Spurs this morning asking to have that chat.

And while I fully understand there will probably be a lot of ‘ifs buts and maybes’ around the discussion, I’d be making a very strong case for the two clubs agreeing another 12 month loan deal to keep the young man in Glasgow next season.

Obviously, the guys at Tottenham will have their own thoughts on what the future should hold. It’s not even certain that Thomas Frank will still be in the manager’s seat next season so there’s a lot to factor in.

But, even so, there’s a very strong argument to be made that the best thing for Moore’s development would be signing on for one more year at Rangers.

Of course, they might want him back down the road as soon as possible. They may have their own plans for him because they clearly believe he’s destined for big things. And they’re right about that.

But if their idea involves Moore going back onto the fringes of their squad next season then there's also a danger that it will stall his growth.

So give him 12 more months and, by the time Spurs get him back, I’d almost guarantee he’ll be ready to walk straight into the first team. And stay there.

When I think back to the start of the season the difference I see in this kid now is quite incredible.

We all knew he had bags of ability and loads of natural talent. That’s why he was getting games in the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou when he’d only just turned 17.

But I’ll be honest. When he first came up the road he looked like a school kid playing in a man’s game. His introduction to Scottish football seemed like it might be too much, too soon.

So to see him turn in a performance like he did against Kilmarnock? That just shows how good this experience has been in terms of his mentality, physicality and personality.

I’ve seen this boy grow into a man over the last few months. And, over that time, I’ve been wondering if Rangers might have been thinking the same thing.

But after Wednesday night I’m now convinced they will be. Keeping Moore for one more season just makes so much sense. Yes, obviously it would be brilliant for my old club but it can be argued that it could be every bit as beneficial - or maybe even more so - for Spurs.

Forget about buying him permanently. That simply isn’t going to happen.

Premier League clubs are paying fees of around £40m or £50m for players who struggle to get a game these days, so I wouldn’t even attempt to put a price on Moore’s head at this moment. It would be a waste of time.

But I do see why he was so highly rated in the first place and I genuinely believe, if an agreement can be reached, Rangers will help fast track his development into the special Premier League player that so many people down south have always expected him to become.

What I really enjoy is his enthusiasm and attitude. He wants to make a difference. He wants to win football matches. He wants to win trophies in a Rangers shirt.

And I can't get enough of that.

When the team was struggling to break down a ten man Kilmarnock side, he was the one player who kept coming back for more and trying to make things happen. It was the same when he came off the bench at Easter Road on Sunday.

The fans have taken him to their hearts because of it and when he was joined on the pitch by the new signings on Wednesday night you could sense the atmosphere inside the whole stadium go up through the gears.

Skov Olsen looked re-energised and took his goal superbly. He struggled in his first couple of games but you have to remember he’s not played much football over the last few months.

He’ll take a lot of confidence from this cameo because he really stood out and he’ll have sensed the fans were delighted with him.

Chukwuani is another who is getting used to his surroundings but he’s starting to look strong in the middle of the pitch.

Rommens was another stand out at left back, bombing up and down the flank. It’s way too early to make assessments or comparisons but what I saw was a player who could make a real difference to the starting XI.

And then there’s big Naderi who looks like an absolute German unit.

So, yes, there was a lot for Rangers to feel better about after Moore had lashed home the fifth goal and the final whistle sounded on Wednesday night.

They’re certainly looking in stronger shape coming out of the window than they did going into it. And they’re going to have to be because, believe me, this title race is going all the way down to the wire, possibly even to the final day of the season.

It’s at times like these that the biggest players with the biggest hearts step forward, roll up their sleeves and become the difference makers.

Moore looks more than capable of doing that. But Rangers will need a team full of them over the next four months to get the club back to where it belongs.

James Wilson set for Tottenham transfer as Arsenal beaten in dramatic deadline day battle for Hearts starlet - Daily Record
Description

The 18-year-old emerged as an Arsenal target early on deadline day but have been trumped by their north London rivals

Spurs have out-flanked London rivals Arsenal in the deadline day race to sign Hearts striker James Wilson.

Record Sport can reveal the 18-year-old is set to travel south this afternoon to put pen to paper on a loan deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the end of the current campaign.

The shock move comes after Arsenal made an approach to strike a similar agreement over the weekend.

The Premier League leaders made initial contact with Tynecastle top brass to express interest in taking the teenager into their development squad until the end of the season.

It’s believed Arsenal wanted to monitor Wilson at close quarters by giving him regular game time in their under 21 team before deciding on whether or not to weigh in with a permanent offer.

But, earlier today, we revealed how the Premiership high flyers had refused to green light that move without a whopping fee being agreed in advance.

Those talks remained placed on hold for 24 hours and that has given Spurs the chance to jump to the front of the queue.

Record Sport understands Spurs have agreed to stump up a significant initial loan fee while also thrashing out the details of a possible fee should they decide to make the move permanent in the summer.

Tottenham have agreed to a deal which gives them an option to buy Wilson outright without an obligation to push the deal through.

But their willingness to firm up the potential financial windfall has been enough to convince Hearts into doing business for a player who has already been capped by Scotland at full international level.

Boss Derek McInnes would have been happy for Wilson to stay put at Tynecastle and fight for a first team place as the Jambos push for a historic title success.

But the youngster has spent most of the campaign watching on from the bench with McInnes preferring more experienced options to lead his attack.

McInnes now looks set to be one attacking option down for the remainder of the season with no indication that the manager will be backed to replace Wilson before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

It's a fast moving Deadline Day and you can follow it all, including our countdown to the window closing, with our LIVE BLOG.

The teenager has struggled in recent weeks but insists he can turn his personal season around

Mikey Moore admits he’s lost his spark in recent weeks - but the Ibrox winger says he’s ready to become Rangers’ magic man at Easter Road.

The on-loan Spurs teenager has charmed the Ibrox faithful with some big displays this season. But the 18-year-old accepts his performances have waned since his stunning strike against Celtic clinched Old Firm victory at Parkhead earlier this month.

But with Danny Rohl’s side now facing a key clash with Hibs in Leith, Moore is determined to cast a fresh spell over the opposition defence as Gers look to conjure up a fresh winning run. Rohl has signed brought in three January signings so far - including Denmark wide man Andres Skov Olsen - and Moore admits the arrival of fresh competition can help him rediscover his powers to bewitch.

The teenager - speaking after Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Porto ended a streak of eight straight victories - said: “To be honest I think we needed the new signings as a team. It's hard, you don't want to get too comfortable so for me personally I think I need to reflect on myself over the past two or three weeks and know that I've got higher standards than what I've hit personally.

“We've been doing really well but personally now I need to push on and now I've got to fight for my place in the team and become that person who you know is going to be playing week after week. Have I been tired lately? It's hard to put something on it, I think I just need to push myself.

“My mentality needs to be that I'm going to go into every game and try and play as well as possible. So for me, the last two weeks I don't think I've been bad but I think I've been better than what I've been.

“But there's going to be a lot of games where we're going to need someone to come up with a bit of magic and for me with my end product…

“I need to reflect on it truthfully and it's not been at its best so far.

“But I know that I've got big moments in me so now the big games are coming up, I think I can really push on and start showing that with my numbers.”

Moore is due head back to North London in the summer but hasn’t ruled out a return to Glasgow next year. And he admits the chance to sample Champions League action with Gers would make that prospect all the more enticing.

He said: “There's been nothing decided so far. I've spoken to people back home but they're saying focus on the rest of the season and then when the summer comes, we'll assess and see what happens next year.

“I want to play in the Champions League, it's a huge competition but it's hard because I need to talk to everyone else back home.

“It’s a collective decision. I love playing here but we'll see what happens in the summer.”

I want to recreate my special Tottenham moment at Rangers after Europa League miss

I want to recreate my special Tottenham moment at Rangers after Europa League miss - Daily Record
Description

The teenager was on the bench as Ange Postecoglou steered the Premier League giants to silverware

He didn’t even get on the pitch at the San Mames Stadium. But in Bilbao seven months ago, Mikey Moore managed to taste Europa League success.

And it gave the Rangers winger an insatiable appetite for more. He was part of Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs squad who defeated Manchester United 1-0 to secure silverware.

Moore was an unused sub for the London club as Brennan Johnson’s goal sealed the win. The scenes in Spain at full-time, as well as the open-top bus tour in Tottenham on the team’s return, made a lasting impression on the youngster.

It allowed him to see and feel what winning a major trophy meant to supporters. And now that he’s at Ibrox, he’d love to experience it again.

As things stand, that might seem a long way off for Rangers fans, especially after their defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday. Danny Rohl’s side are currently 12 points off the pace at the top of the Premiership table and languishing in fourth spot.

But Moore is refusing to give up hope, with that glory night in Bilbao still fresh in the memory.

The 18-year-old said: “That was a special night. I didn’t get on the pitch but I played a bit coming up to the final.

“I felt like a massive part of it. Even though I didn’t get to play in the final, I got to see the mark of what that game took to win - and what it meant to everyone. That was huge for me because now I have that experience.

“I know what it means to play in a game with that pressure. I know how all the Spurs boys were feeling on the day and in the lead up to it. Seeing all the fans in Bilbao, I could see how much it meant to everyone.

“I just hope that we can recreate a game like that here this year. After what happened last weekend, we’re in this position.

“But if we keep working, I want to be involved in those types of games again. It’s those nights after it as well, they’re the best you can remember.

“All the boys have said, you might only get one of them. But you want to have more than one because they’re the best you’ll ever experience.”

It’s been difficult for Rangers fans to get excited this season after a miserable start to the campaign.

They lost the Premier Sports Cup semi-final to Celtic and have effectively crashed out of both the Champions League and Europa League.

In the Premiership, they’re in a fight to finish in the top three, with the Scottish Cup the only other trophy left to go for.

But Moore is convinced that if everyone in Rohl’s squad pulls together, they CAN still achieve something.

He said: “There will be a lot of talk after the weekend.

“For me personally, we needed to win that game (v Hearts). It was an opportunity missed.

“But we’ve now got room to work. We’ve got big games coming up where we can start to close the gap again.

“Every three points now is massive. I think we need leaders and people to drive it.

“I think I can do that with my performances on the pitch. Maybe not as a massive talker.

“But each player can drive performances. We need to deal with the pressure, be up for it mentally and give our all in every game.

“The fans here are some of the most passionate I’ve ever seen.

“When it’s not going well, they have a right to have the opinions they have and demand more from us.

“It’s up to us to react to that.

“Because when it’s going well, I can’t think of anything better because the fans here are some of the best I’ve seen.

“We need to use that as an extra man, thrive off it and use it to our advantage.”

Irrespective of how Rangers’ campaign ends, Moore believes it will be a huge season for his development.

On the pitch, he’s been an integral player for a big club in a competitive league.

And off it, he’s matured as a person having to live away from home for the first time.

Even if his culinary skills aren’t quite up to scratch yet.

Moore said: “It’s been a massive learning year for me at Spurs and Rangers.

“It started tough here but it’s gotten better lately. So for me, personally, mentally, physically and technically - it’s been big for me. I’ve learned so much.

“This club has been huge for my development. It’s a massive club.

“Before I came, I knew exactly what kind of pressure I was coming into, so I was prepared for it.

“At first, it was a case of: ‘Oh, I thought I knew, now I need time to adapt’.

“But it’s been a top year for me, my first full year in football.

“This is also the first time I’ve ever moved away from home.

“Without my mum and dad at home, I’ve had to try and cook for myself, which has been a disaster!

“But I’ve tried my best. Off the pitch, it’s been just as big a learning curve as on it.”

The teenager reckons his Rangers-mad family have quickly taught him about what life is like in Glasgow

Mikey Moore says his Rangers-daft family have helped to instil the mentality he needs to thrive at Ibrox. The on-loan Spurs winger has developed into a key player for Danny Rohl’s side.

He believes - even at just 18-years-old - he can be a leader in the Rangers dressing-room. And Moore says the demands put on him by his own relatives have ensured he knows what it means to represent the club.

The English youngster is loving life in Glasgow and hasn’t ruled out returning to Gers next season. For now, he’s determined to get Rohl’s team up the Premiership table and challenging for honours.

And if he does, certain family members will be delighted. Ahead of Saturday’s clash with in-form Motherwell at Ibrox, Moore said: “I’ve got a few connections. My girlfriend’s whole family are Rangers fans.

“And my family have always liked Rangers as a club too. I understand what it means now. I get messages off my girlfriend’s dad all the time, battering me if we lose and if we win he’s loving me.

“I understand what it means to be here and I’ve had that support from people in my family. You need that support network when you’re going through some hard times. They’ve been a massive help to me.

“My own family are Millwall fans, so they have a bit of a link to Rangers. My uncle has been messaging me every week saying: ‘C’mon, batter them today’.

“I won’t read out some of the messages! But since I’ve been here, they’ve built that love again for the club.

“My mum is suddenly the biggest Rangers fan you’ve ever seen, with Rangers tops and all sorts.

“I love it here.”

Moore has been one of Gers’ most productive attacking players since Rohl arrived as gaffer.

He believes he can lead by example at Ibrox by influencing games and inspiring them to victories.

Which is something Rangers desperately need after losing to Hearts on Sunday which leaves them 12 points off the top of the table.

The teenager said: “In the last few weeks, I’ve felt more responsibility in myself to go and help the team get forward.

“Sometimes there are games where we’re going to be under pressure.

“But I’ve got that belief in myself to be the person to drive us up the pitch.

“That’s what it’s about. If you have three or four, or as many people in the team with that mentality of: ‘I’m going to help the team today’ - the more we get that the more games we’ll win and points we’ll pick up.

“We need to all have that mentality.

“We have so much ability in this group but a lot of it at this club is about mentality.

“We must have that over the next few weeks to get as many points as possible - and put ourselves back in the position we were last weekend.

“We have to just keep closing that gap.”

Moore will go back to London in the summer for talks on his future with Spurs boss Thomas Frank.

But after striking up an excellent relationship with Rohl at Ibrox - allied to his family links to Rangers - he says he could be open to a return.

Moore said: “I need to see what happens for the rest of this season.

“It’s a hard one because a lot of it is down to the people back home.

“In the summer, I’ll go home and have talks with Tottenham and my agent, as well as my family.

“Obviously, I love playing at this club. I’m going to do everything I can to make the most of the next five months.

“I love playing here but we’ll see what happens, who I talk to and what they’re saying.

“Maybe I’ll be back, I don’t know.”

The former Celtic boss - now at Nottingham Forest - spoke about his time in North London during his media unveiling

Ange Postecoglou has revealed he knew his time was up at Tottenham BEFORE tasting Europa League glory.

The former Celtic boss - who was unveiled as the new manager of Nottingham Forest to the media earlier today - opened up on his exit from the North London outfit during his press conference.

He delivered on his promise of always winning silverware in his second season by ending the long wait for trophy success by dumping Manchester United and with that booking Champions League football for this season.

Ange's exit came just weeks after that night to remember in Bilbao.

His domestic record in the English Premier League in his second season didn't make for good reading with 22 defeats and a 17th placed finish.

They were never in trouble of the drop but it was a position that wasn't good enough for the club who parted ways.

He has since made a quick-fire return to the dugout at the City Ground as Nuno Espirito Santo's replacement and he reflected on Spurs' decision to axe him at the end of the last campaign.

He said: "It wasn't great. I knew it was coming so it wasn't a surprise, that's one thing. I knew it was coming a fair way before the final.

“But we won it and we had the parade, it was a great three days. I didn't want it to tarnish that.

"But after that I kind of knew it was done. From my perspective, you have the chance to process that.

“Whether I feel it was unjust, other people made those decisions, made those determinations. That's up to them, you'd have to ask them their reasoning for it.

"What I do know is I had two years where it was very, very challenging but I worked with some fantastic people in the football department."

He continued: "The supporters, we put them through some tough times.

"But there isn't a Spurs supporter that I come across now that doesn't want to hug me and take me home for dinner, so I must have done something right.

"Ultimately, that's what we do it for. I'm very proud of what we achieved there and it will always take a special place in my heart.

"How it ended, I don't really think about it a lot. To be fair, I've done it a couple of times myself.

“I left Celtic and I'm sure they were disappointed. I left Yokohama and they were disappointed. You understand that's part of the business we're in.

"That's ok, it's allowed me to move into this and maybe these things happen for a reason."

Jermain Defoe left Moore with an easy decision to make after missed Ibrox opportunity planted the seed for Glasgow switch

Mikey Moore had already been filled in on the Ibrox atmosphere by Spurs’ modern-day stars.

But when the call came offering a move to Rangers, he realised it was a Tottenham legend of old he had to speak with.

And thankfully for Russell Martin, Jermain Defoe’s words could not have been warmer as he urged the 18-year-old to get himself up to Glasgow quick.

Moore took that advice on as he signed up for a 12-month loan stint with Gers.

Now the talented teenage winger is looking to emulate the achievements of a man who is now regarded as a hero as much at Ibrox as he is in North London.

Defoe helped Steven Gerrard’s squad lift Premiership silver back in 2021 but after retiring, returned to Tottenham to help rear the Lillywhite’s next generation of youngsters.

Exciting winger Moore was among the kids the former England ace worked alongside before quitting his academy gig last summer.

And he said: ”Obviously I spoke to Jermaine Defoe, being my old coach at Tottenham. I’m really close to him now, so I spoke to him about the club and he didn't say a bad word about it.

"He said it's an unbelievable place and told me, ‘If you've got a chance to go there, then take it’.

“What a player! What a guy as well.

"I remember seeing some of his goals up here. I was a bit younger then but I know that he was an unbelievable finisher as a striker and the fans loved him up here.

“He said he loved his time up here and I think he wishes he could have played here longer. I hope I can make a similar impact."

Moore’s parent club paid a visit to Ibrox last season en route to lifting the Europa League.

There was a surge of emotions as Ange Postecoglou and his team went all the way to Bilbao to secure the club’s first trophy in 17 years.

But they very nearly blew a fuse in Glasgow on a night when the electrifying Ibrox atmosphere came close to handing supercharged Gers a famous win.

The Light Blues were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in the end but the noise in the stands made a lasting impression on the Spurs squad.

Moore may have missed that trip but he certainly heard all about it.

He said: ”No I didn’t play that night. At the time, I was out for a bit, so I couldn't travel. I watched the game on TV but I was fuming that I couldn’t come up.

"When they came back, the lads all said it was one of the best atmospheres they've ever played in.

“So when I heard about Rangers’ interest, I think that comes straight into my mind. I remembered all the good things the boys said. I can't wait to play in that sort of atmosphere myself.”

Moore might just get his chance come Tuesday night when Martin’s team line-up for their final Champions League eliminator.

Club Brugge come to Ibrox for the first leg of a £40million shoot-out but hopes are not exactly soaring amongst the Gers fanbase.

Martin’s Rangers revolution has yet to ignite despite a £20million summer spend.

But Moore hopes he can provide a spark having enjoyed his first taste of continental action last season.

The Spurs kid - who registered five appearances during that triumphant Europa League run and grabbed his first senior goal after a mazy run against Swedes Elfsborg - said: “Tuesday is a massive game, as every game is when you play for Rangers.

"I'm excited for it. I've seen some of the games in the earlier rounds and it's been good to qualify.

"So it's a massive opportunity for me and all the boys so I can't wait to go.

"It was a really good season in Europe for me and for the team at Tottenham last year.

"So I've had some good experiences and I'm ready to go and show more, really.

"I want to go and make more of an impact on a European stage, so I'm ready to play.

"I just want to play for this club and I want to just become a better player really, so I think there's a massive opportunity at this club and there's massive games. It's a great club.

"So I just want to play as many games as possible, score as many goals and excite as many people as I can.”

Moore has been in Glasgow for almost three weeks but he was only given the green light to make his first appearance in a blue jersey on Saturday against Alloa as Ibrox chiefs finally cut their way through the red tape holding up his debut.

But that delay has allowed the youngster to settle into life in Glasgow away from the intrusive Old Firm spotlight.

However, he knows all eyes will be on him as he gets down to work with Martin’s team.

"I've experienced it a bit so far, but obviously it's not the same when you're not playing,” he said after Gers’ 4-2 win secured a Premier Sports Cup quarter-final berth.

“Now I'm involved in it I will probably feel it more, but for me personally, if I do what I'm good at and I go play the way I know I can, I think everything would be alright.

"I see the way the gaffer wants to play and it suits me a lot.

"It's attacking football, I get a lot of opportunities on the wing to go and show what I can do.

“It doesn’t affect me, it helps me actually, so I'm happy to be playing under the gaffer.”

Martin is the man he has to impress now but Moore will always be grateful to a boss who once plied his trade on the opposite side of the city here.

Asked about Postecoglou’s impact on his career, he said: "I'm thankful for him really. He gave me my debut for the club, so he's helped me a lot, but now I’m focussed on playing here."

Inside Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham sacking as Daniel Levy reveals awkward chat after Europa League heroics - Daily Record
Description

The ex-Celtic favourite was brutally binned by Spurs just weeks after ending the club's 17-year trophy drought

Daniel Levy had doubled down on Tottenham's decision to sack Europa League-winning boss Ange Postecoglou.

The Spurs supremo decided to pull the trigger just weeks after Postecoglou led the North London club to European glory.

Ex-Celtic favourite Postecoglou boldly vowed to end Tottenham's 17-year wait for a trophy and was true to his word after beating Manchester United in May's final.

But a catastrophic Premier League campaign ended with the Lilywhites finishing fourth bottom on just 38 points - and the Aussie paid the price with his job after two rollercoaster seasons at the helm.

Levy took some heat from supporters and pundits for wielding the axe and the chairman had to justify his decision in an awkward conversation with Postecoglou.

He told the Overlap with SkyBet: "Ultimately, the decision sits with me, but it’s always a collective decision.

"We have a board of directors, but under the board, we have a group of technical staff, and they advise.

"We had to explain the decision to part ways with Ange. Ange just won us a trophy – a European trophy – highly significant and he’s always going to be in our history.

“However, we couldn’t lose sight of the fact that we finished 17th in the league, we lost 22 Premier League games, and it’s impossible for Tottenham to be in that position, and so we had to take the emotion out of it and we had to give some data points as to why we decided to do what we did.

"Whichever level you do it, no one likes telling somebody, ‘You’re losing your job’, but it is the nature of football.

"We’re there to win and yes, we won a European trophy – and it was fantastic – but we also need to win on all fronts – and the Premier League says it all."

Tottenham moved on quickly from Postecoglou by luring Thomas Frank from Brentford as their new head coach.

Levy added: "Whenever you appoint a coach, you always believe it’s right and you need a lot of ingredients for it to be right. Thomas Frank is a highly intelligent individual; he’s got a fantastic way about him in terms of communication.

"He will be great at developing both young players and older players – and making them better.

"He gets the style of football we want to play; he understands that Rome wasn’t built in a day – we haven’t set him: ‘You’ve got to win the league this year’. We just want to compete at the highest level."

Moore will be be facing one of his former teammates at Spurs in the Premiership this season

Alfie Dorrington knows his Spurs teammate Mikey Moore will come up to Rangers with no fear.

The talented teenager has joined the Ibrox side on-loan for the season.

Dorrington is a few years older than the 17-year-old but has seen the impact Moore has made coming through the Tottenham Hotspur ranks.

The England youth international had a host of options but has decided to sign up for Russell Martin’s Ibrox revolution.

The on-loan Aberdeen defender said: “He is very direct. He reminds me of a powerful runner with the ball. He has no fear.”

Moore sought Dorrington’s advice before he moved north. He knew Dorrington did well at Aberdeen and ended up with a Scottish Cup winners medal.

The centre half has since returned for a second loan spell at Pittodrie.

They will need to wait until November before the first clash at Ibrox in November.

Dorrington confirmed: ”I have spoken to him. He is just excited to be honest.”

It will bring an interesting mix when Rangers and Aberdeen clash.

Dorrington explained: “He didn’t realise the rivalry, a bit like me when I came up.

Rangers dressing room clued up on Mikey Moore after Son Heung-min's revealing statement

Rangers look poised to sign one of English's football's hottest talents in Mikey Moore, and his captain at Tottenham has told Russell Martin's side just what they'd be in for with the youngster

Rangers are getting close to signing Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Mikey Moore on loan – and according to Spurs star Son Heung-min, the club are landing an "amazing" player.

Despite stern competition, Russell Martin’s team look favourites to sign the player on a season-long deal, subject to a medical.

The 17-year-old is regarded as one of English football's brightest young talents and has decided a move to the Scottish Premiership club will further his development. Spurs boss Thomas Frank has been eager for his starlet to gain more minutes on the pitch – something Rangers hope to offer.

Moore has made 21 appearances and scored two goals since breaking into the Spurs first team in the 2023/2024 season. While earning plaudits from James Maddison too, speaking last year, Spurs captain Son said he believes Moore has what it takes to go all the way to the top, and gushed over the youngsters attributes, on and off the pitch.

"Yeah, he's a fantastic boy and obviously, I mean, he's coming from the academy," Son said. "You as a club, you look after him even more.

"Everybody is so welcoming and looking after him, so do I, because he's such a lovely kid and working hard every single day, coming with the first team with that age it's not easy, you know, like sometimes you're very shy.

"But he's showing a good personality and working hard, which is very important to me. When you see the young players are working hard in the first team and you just want to help, you just want to help him."

Son continued: "Now I want to be that guy as well, you know, just having him around me and just talking about things, because we are playing in a similar position that if I can help him a little bit with advice, then I'm always open to it.

"Mikey is also coming to me most of the times and asking questions, which is very fun. I enjoy talking to him. He's a fantastic boy and then I'm definitely sure that he can be a fantastic player. There's no doubt because he has such amazing quality.

"As we always say about young players, let's don't give him too much pressure on his shoulders. Just let's enjoy how he develops, how he improves every single day, every single season and as a fan, as supporters, we should just enjoy watching him and he will be, I think, one of the top players."

Moore made history at Spurs when, at 17 years and 172 days old, he became England’s youngest-ever scorer in a major competition when he bagged a goal against Elfsborg in the Europa League, which smashed a record set by the iconic Jimmy Greaves.

New Spurs boss Frank is equally excited by Moore's burgeoning talent, but stressed the importance of the youngster gaining experience at the highest level.

"It is very important [he goes on loan]. Mikey is a big talent. I'm really excited about his future here at Tottenham," Frank said.

"I think, for all players, but especially younger players, they need consistent first-team football into their bodies. I think, if we can find the right option, we will do that."

Meanwhile Martin was playing his cards close to his chest over any move on Tuesday. Talking to the press ahead of the Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos, he said: "I think I’ve said to you all the way along that, as soon as it’s done, you’ll be the first guys to know.

"There are lots of players we like, lots that we’re linked to. He’s [Moore] a really good player, and if at any point he becomes a Rangers player, we will let you know."
