Description

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly eyeing Tottenham star Cristian Romero as a potential alternative to Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

Bastoni has emerged as the club’s top defensive transfer target but his €70 million price tag means he may be out of the Catalans’ reach this summer.

Deco is therefore looking at other options and was in London recently to talk about various Tottenham players, with Spurs fighting a desperate battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

According to Diario Sport, Barca have been in touch with Romero’s camp to discuss the possibility of a summer move to Camp Nou.

Romero is seen as an experienced, aggressive, quick defender with strong leadership skills. He is a right footer but is described as a “born leader” and a player with the personality to play for Barca.

The Argentina international is set to leave Tottenham if they do go down and won’t be able to help them in their fight against relegation after being ruled out of their final matches due to a knee injury.

Barcelona sporting director Deco was spotted in London last week, with reports claiming he was in the capital to check on several Tottenham players.

Spurs are in the midst of a relegation battle currently and it’s thought a host of players could depart at the end of the season if they are relegated to the Championship.

According to Sport, Barcelona are likely to be interested in defenders Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero as they seek to strengthen their backline this summer.

Van de Ven has been mentioned previously as a target for Barcelona, while Romero has been regularly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

The report also highlights how Lucas Bergvall and Xavi Simons are players who have attracted interest from Barcelona previously.

Indeed Bergvall did look close to signing for Barcelona before he headed to north London, while rumors of Simons returning to Camp Nou have cropped up regularly since his exit.

So tell us what you think! Are there any Tottenham players you’d like to see Deco bring to Barca if they are relegated this summer? Share your thoughts in the comments below…
