Tudor might rapidly turn things around at Spurs and throw his hat into the ring for a potential chance at the permanent role, but it appears Tottenham are assessing other options as it stands.

Tottenham Must Hire Julian Nagelsmann

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Germany manager Nagelsmann is being eyed as a possible permanent option for Tottenham in the summer. It's claimed that landing Nagelsmann is considered highly ambitious, but it's the type of move Tottenham need to be making if they want to go to the next level.

Nagelsmann is set to take charge of Germany at the upcoming World Cup, and although his contract runs until 2028, there's no guarantee he will be in the hot seat come the summer if they struggle at the tournament.

The 38-year-old, described as a 'genius', is one of the most exciting up-and-coming managers in the game at the moment, and if Tottenham can secure his signature, he could be the perfect appointment.

To win a Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich at such a young age with minimal managerial experience was an incredible achievement, and Tottenham need to be going all out to bring him to the Premier League in the summer.

De Zerbi and Pochettino Negatives Explained

Of course, Pochettino and De Zerbi both have plenty of positives, but there are far from guaranteed wins. De Zerbi is a manager whose personality might not suit the Tottenham squad, while his style of play will be a huge shift from what they were playing under Frank.

Pochettino has been an ideal fit for Tottenham previously, but that was a long time ago, and there's always a risk of going back to a previous manager. The 53-year-old was sacked by Spurs in 2019, rightly or wrongly, and when there is a whole pool of managers likely available this summer, there might be better options.

Tottenham will not be looking to hire Igor Tudor on a permanent basis, with their plan 'already clear', according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Tudor was brought in earlier this week as Tottenham were in the market for a Thomas Frank replacement. Rather than finding a permanent solution, Spurs opted to bring Tudor in on a short-term contract until the end of the season, giving them time to fully assess their options for the permanent role.

Signing a short-term deal certainly doesn't rule Tudor out of the running to stay permanently, as we've seen plenty of times in the past. Interim managers have often gone on to impress club hierarchies and secured themselves a longer-term deal, and Romano has now revealed the 'clear' plan Spurs have heading into the 2026/2027 season.

Tottenham Have Clear Plan for New Manager

Reporting on his YouTube channel, Romano has confirmed that Tottenham's plan for their new manager is 'clear'. The respected journalist confirms that Spurs will go for a different manager in the summer, with Tudor heading out the door following the expiration of his short-term contract.

"Tottenham confirm Igor Tudor as their new head coach until the end of the season. Short-term contract, four or five months, then Tudor will be out. Tottenham will go for a different coach in the summer. The plan is already clear."

Although that might seem obvious to some, as mentioned, we've seen managers hired on an interim basis earn themselves a permanent deal on numerous occasions, but Romano appears to be sure that Tottenham will be heading in a different direction. Tudor's record as a manager certainly shows why Tottenham will be avoiding a permanent appointment.

Tudor Rarely Spends Long in Jobs

Tottenham will be looking for a long-term appointment with their next manager. Someone who is going to steer them back in the right direction and deliver success over a long period.

Tudor doesn't have that kind of track record, and the longest number of games he's spent with one club during his career is a 70-game spell. In recent years, Tudor has spent even less time at each club, lasting just 24 games at Juventus, 11 games at Lazio, and 48 at Marseille.

It's clear that Tudor has been brought in as a strictly interim manager, and Spurs will be working on a permanent appointment at the same time.

De Zerbi is a fiery Italian who has shown he is not afraid to ruffle feathers. He will not shy away from speaking his mind and will rub people up the wrong way, be that inside or outside the club. A case can be made that that is exactly what Spurs need, but the club went there with Antonio Conte and look how that ended.

Pochettino meanwhile, will guide the USA team at their home World Cup in the summer of 2026 and then be assessing his options, with his USMNT contract only in place until the end of the tournament. USA sporting director Matt Crocker was tasked with bringing in a "world-class" manager to lead the States at the World Cup and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola caleld Pochettino "top class" when he was appointed manager.

The Argentinian is understood to have plenty of support within the corridors of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has not been shy himself of talking up a return to N17, saying he has unfinished business at the club and wants to ultimately achieve what he came so close to doing in his five years with Spurs from 2014 to 2019 - winning silverware.

Pochettino Second Stint Could End In Disaster

There is an argument to be made that you should never go back. Pochettino has been there, done it and not quite been the success he wanted to be, hence the desire to return. But he would be returning to a different club, one in dire need of inspiration and uplift.

A second stint, while offering a semblance of football romance, may end in disaster and tarnish his reputation with the supporters who chanted his name during the defeat to Newcastle which ultimately ended up being Frank's final game in charge.

Frank, while clearly having a distinct lack of direction as Tottenham head coach, never really being able to get the fans - or the players it seems - on side, was not wholly to blame in the white half of north London.

The problems run deep at Spurs and former boss Ange Postecogolou spoke cutting truths in his appearance on the Rest Is Football podcast this week.

"They've built an unbelievable stadium, unbelievable training facilities, but when you look at the expenditure, particularly the wage structure, they're not a big club," Postecoglou admitted. He is not alone in having those views.

Tottenham Captain Cristian Romero Regularly Speaks Out For The Supporters

Cristian Romero has been an outspoken voice in the Tottenham dressing room for years now and he has hit out at the club's hierarchy on more than one occasion. He posted a comment on social media earlier in the season, aimed at the owners, claiming they "tell a few lies" on the rare occasion that anyone at board level speaks out. That post was later amended, but in another barb he called the fact that Frank only had 11 available outfield players for the Manchester City game "unbelievable and disgraceful" in what could have been aimed at the medical department and the club's hierarchy for a lack of transfer activity.

There is a real disconnect between the club and the supporters right now, worse, it feels, than it has ever been. Former chairman Daniel Levy had his haters and there were plenty of protests about his role at the club in the final weeks and months before he was relieved of his position. But at least in that there was a common enemy and theme for the supporters to rally around. Now, the anger from the fanbase is directed here, there and everywhere.

Tottenham Need A Manager To Bring The Club Together

Frank was getting it from all angles because of the style of football on display. The players have been getting it because of the tawdry performances they have been putting in. The board have been getting it for the lack of transfer activity, the failure to make a decision on the new manager with any kind of conviction and the lack of communication that comes out of the club.

There is absolutely no feeling of togetherness at the club and that needs to change.

Tudor's appointment as interim is going to do nothing to help matters between now and the end of the season, which means this summer Spurs have to get things right.

Pochettino is the only choice to be the permanent manager. Yes, it may not be like last time. And yes, he may fail. Yes, he may have his doubters as, as loved as he is by the fanbase, he does not have the backing of 100% of the supporters (although who would?). And yes there's a certain amount of romance to it rather than hard evidence that he is the right man for the job.

But he will do one thing and it's probably the most important thing at this stage in Tottenham's ailing situation - he will unite the club from top to bottom.

Pochettino Could Have More Control At Spurs After Levy Departure

Pochettino also speaks his mind and will want to do things his way. There is an argument that without Levy in place now - a man Pochettino actually had a very good relationship with - the Argentinian may actually find he has a bit more leeway and control. But he has always seemed to conduct himself in the correct manner. He knows what he wants and he exudes calm and class. He brought a young team together in his previous five-year spell at the club and a calm and controlling head is called for now.

Pochettino will bring the players together as one and will get the fans back onside almost immediately. The supporters will look on the owners a bit more fondly because of the decision they will have made and Pochettino is also the perfect conduit between upper management and the lifeblood of the club - the long-suffering supporters.

It's a win-win, until it goes wrong. But Pochettino is the man Tottenham need. At least if it does go wrong, the huge clamour for him to return will finally be put to bed and everyone can move on. Up until then, however, Spurs will be back, together as one.

Tottenham are understood to be one of the clubs keeping a close eye on the defender's situation heading into the summer window. They believe that he could easily play in a high line in the Premier League, while his on-ball ability is regarded as excellent, and the fact he is left-footed also a bonus.

Leipzig are unlikely to hold out for the full release clause if they miss out on Champions League football, and it's reported that any deal starting at a guaranteed €60m (£52m), rising up to around €90m (£78m) in significant add-ons would be listened to.

There have been some talks between the player's camp and delegates from Premier League sides, although which clubs remains unclear.

Spurs Planning for Life After Romero and Van de Ven?

The current Spurs club would well be about to be split up next season if they miss out on the Champions League, and central defence is likely to be an area that gets picked apart.

Romero's future is looking bleak, with reports that he has already decided he wants to leave, while Van de Ven has been linked with a move to join Liverpool, who need a new starting centre-back.

A move for Lukeba could well be the club planning for life without their regular starting defenders for next season and beyond, and while a deal would be expensive, it would ensure they keep top quality in their defensive line.

But after helping the side qualify for the Last 16 of the Champions League automatically in a fine campaign, which included defeating the European champions PSG, he is attracting plenty of interest.

Spurs are desperate to appoint Pochettino or De Zerbi this summer, but the Argentine is currently in charge of the USMNT ahead of the World Cup, while De Zerbi resigned from his role at Marseille earlier this month after being thrashed 5-0 by PSG in Ligue 1.

Both managers remain above Borges in the pecking order, but Tottenham bosses are keen to sound out Borges about the role just in case they're unable to land either of their prime targets.

Rui Borges An Unnecessary Gamble

Tottenham are keen to avoid getting another managerial appointment wrong, but they also need to ensure this doesn't happen again on the pitch next season.

Ange Postecoglou finishing 17th was papered over by the fact he won the Europa League, but Frank has left Spurs in 15th and now Tudor must get them up the table quickly to make sense of his arrival.

If Borges comes in, it's a major gamble considering he doesn't have the most top-level experience and wouldn't be someone who excites the fans, and it feels like a gamble the club just can't afford to take right now.

Despite the current plan being that Tottenham will move on from the 47-year-old ex-Juventus boss in the summer, there is a world where he could impress and stay on into next season.

"The official line is if he does well he will become a contender for the permanent manager's job, which they'll look to do at the end of the season," he said.

"But my sense and my feeling around that is that Tottenham are very much looking at this as a short-term fix. Get this team up the table, make sure they're a Premier League outfit next season, and then they will look to appoint a permanent head coach, who I understand, a couple of the names banded about are Mauricio Pochettino, [and] Roberto De Zerbi.

"They're certainly two that they would look to do as well. But who knows, if Tudor does well, he may become a contender, but I can't see it."

Tottenham Must Stick To The Plan

It's evident that Spurs have a plan in place for the end of the season, when they will approach a number of coaches about taking over and making their mind up at the time.

But while Tudor has a chance to audition and prove himself, it's also clear that the club don't have him in their sights for the permanent role, and they must stick to their plan regardless of how well he performs, unless he achieves an absolute miracle.

Pochettino, who has been described as a 'world-class' coach, is currently in charge of the United States national team and is preparing to head to the World Cup this summer.

However, he is expected to leave the role after the conclusion of the tournament, and a return to north London is said to be right at the top of his options for his next job.

But while appearing on beIN Sports, pundit Keys claimed that the Argentine should reject the move and look elsewhere instead as he has nothing to gain from going back, while admitting that he feels the job may be a poisoned chalice.

"If I was Pochettino, I would give that a wide berth," he said. "I would not go within a million miles of Tottenham again.

"I got Moyes going back to Everton, I understood that. It's not for me. Stay away from it. There's nothing to gain from going back."

Going Back Rarely Works Out

While Pochettino is arguably the best manager the club have had in recent memory, the game has evolved a lot since he was last in the role. He's also been in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and the USA, and many would say that he has failed in each role.

There is a romanticism about going back to where he really made a name for himself as a coach, and for Spurs to take him back and build with him again, but it rarely works out that way.

Spurs would surely be better off looking to the future, rather than the past, and Pochettino could do the same.

Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to consider former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca for their next permanent managerial role, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The north London side have confirmed Igor Tudor’s arrival as interim head coach until the end of the season, with a permanent managerial appointment delayed until the summer.

While former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are viewed as frontrunners for the role, Maresca was also linked as a potential candidate in recent days.

However, Romano claims he is not aware of any advanced talks ongoing for the Italian tactician’s arrival, as Maresca is instead seen as the main candidate to become the next Manchester City manager.

Enzo Maresca Favourite for Man City Role

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Maresca is viewed as the favourite to take over from Pep Guardiola at Man City amid recent reports linking him to Tottenham:

“What I'm told is that Enzo Maresca is and remains the main candidate to become the next Manchester City manager.

“So my understanding is that Enzo Maresca is top of the shortlist at Manchester City if Pep Guardiola leaves the club at the end of the season or eventually in the future.

“Pep is under contract until 2027. So we have to respect that. At the same time, as I told you, Manchester City are preparing the future for when Pep Guardiola will say, okay, I'm leaving.

“So Enzo Maresca is a really, really strong candidate at Manchester City. I'm not aware of anything advanced with Tottenham at this stage.

“Just to clarify, as we had many reports about this in the English press.”

Maresca left his role as Chelsea manager in January, less than six months after winning the Club World Cup at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The 45-year-old departed following a breakdown in relations with the club and a run of disappointing results, winning just once across his last seven Premier League games.

Chelsea have since appointed former Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior as Maresca’s successor, while Spurs have officially confirmed Tudor’s arrival on a short-term deal on Saturday.

The Croatian tactician replaced Thomas Frank, who was relieved of his duties this week following an eight-game winless run in the Premier League.

Spurs to Face De Zerbi Competition

Despite identifying both Pochettino and De Zerbi as leading candidates to become the next permanent manager after the season, Tottenham could face serious competition for the latter.

As GIVEMESPORT revealed this week, De Zerbi is aware of potential opportunities opening up at other Premier League clubs this summer, including Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Italian tactician is available after ending his stint as Marseille manager last week but appears unlikely to manage another club this season.

The 44-year-old is only under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the season, with United set to appoint a permanent manager once the campaign concludes.

De Zerbi and Pochettino Frontrunners for Permanent Job

With Tudor only joining until the end of the season, Tottenham are expected to appoint a new permanent manager this summer, with both De Zerbi and Pochettino seen as early front-runners.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Spurs knew they had no chance of bringing Pochettino back mid-season, with the Argentine focused on leading the United States at their home World Cup this summer.

De Zerbi, meanwhile, was available after leaving Marseille last week, but Spurs opted to go a different route and could instead consider the Italian after the season.

The north London side are 16th in the Premier League with 12 games to go, five points off the bottom three.

Meanwhile, the north Londoners are also keen on De Zerbi, who left Marseille earlier this week.

GMS sources revealed this week that De Zerbi would be willing to talk to Tottenham about their project, although the Italian is aware that jobs at Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool could potentially be available in the next months.

Other reports have suggested he sees Spurs as the 'next logical step' in his managerial career and is ready to reject United as a result.

De Zerbi is Better Than Pochettino

While there is clearly a romanticism with Pochettino rejoining Tottenham, maybe this is a case of thinking with your head over your heart.

The Argentine didn't majorly pull up any trees during his previous spell in the Premier League with Chelsea, while there is reason that Spurs got rid of him in the first place over six years ago.

De Zerbi feels like he is at a different stage of his career, but despite his recent spell with Marseille coming to an end, he led them to an impressive second-placed finish last term, and he has made a big impression on his fellow managers.

Indeed, Pep Guardiola labelled him 'one of the most influential managers of the last 20 years', while Sevilla coach Matias Almeyda has called him 'the best manager in the world' this season.

If Tottenham can agree a deal with De Zerbi to join, it'd be a no-brainer to pick him over Pochettino, taking emotion out of the decision.
