Reigning victorious in Bilbao on Wednesday night would merely paper over the cracks for both sides – but it would offer, despite their dismal domestic campaigns, a route into Europe’s top table. But who do fans of other clubs want to win the all-English affair?

The folks over at The Athletic used a series of polls to ask their readers – those who support one of the other 18 clubs in England’s top flight – who they would rather win if they had to choose one of Manchester United, 16th in the Premier League table, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently placed just below in 17th.

There have been recent calls to suggest that neither side, by virtue of their woeful positions in the Premier League table, should be issued Champions League football for next season – with supporters from other clubs, understandably, peeved.

Alas, one of Manchester United or Spurs will be rubbing shoulders with the continent’s big dogs in 2025/26.

Of the thousands that answered The Athletic’s poll, a total of 68.4 were in favour of Ange Postecoglou – who has claimed to always win silverware in his second season at every club he’s been at throughout his managerial career – coming out on top.

A victory for the Londoners is the preference for fans of 14 of the other sides that occupy the top tier. Only Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham United – due to their proximity to Spurs – voted in favour of the out-of-sorts Red Devils.

Incredibly, there was just one fanbase who were equally split down the middle. Brentford, based in west London, voted evenly for both clubs, while – perhaps unsurprisingly – Liverpool were 95.9% in favour of Spurs lifting gold in Spain.

Supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers, too, will not be pleased if Lisbon-born Ruben Amorim – widely regarded as one of the best young managers in world football – secures silverware in his maiden campaign, as 95.7% of the Molineux faithful voted in favour of a Red Devils defeat.

Maybe, just maybe, Matheus Cunha’s inevitable move to Old Trafford might have something to do with that.

Not a single voter of an Everton persuasion was willing to entertain the prospect of the Manchester-based outfit getting their hands on the trophy, while just shy of 50% - 48.1%, to be precise – of the Chelsea fanbase would like to see Spurs win.

Elsewhere, 93/1% of the Magpies faithful are hoping that Amorim's men fall the final hurdle in the Basque Country. That was expected, however, given that Newcastle United are widely regarded as one of Manchester United's biggest rivals alongside Liverpool and Leeds United.

Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in appointing Fulham boss Marco Silva as Ange Postecoglou’s successor this summer, talkSPORT has revealed.

The Lilywhites reportedly retain interest in the Portuguese tactician’s services, despite being heavily linked with a move for former Ajax coach Francesco Farioli this week.

The 52-year-old executive, who is closing in on a return to North London, is reportedly a huge fan of his Italian compatriot, now a free agent after leaving Ajax this week.

Silva, meanwhile, has a year left on his deal with Fulham and has been heavily linked with a departure in recent months amid growing interest from Tottenham.

The ‘genius’ manager, who won titles in Greece and Portugal, was even named among the ‘main names’ to replace Postecoglou at Spurs by Fabrizio Romano last month, alongside Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.

Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert could be dropped to the bench despite starting in the previous Premier League match, along with the likes of Djed Spence and Archie Gray.

Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro have both been on the sidelines in recent weeks, so they could be in a race against time to make the Europa League final. Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee, but the former has travelled with the squad.

Diogo Dalot is a also a doubt for the Red Devils, but once again, he has flown to Bilbao, while Jonny Evans was also unavailable for United when they faced Chelsea last week.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Europa League final, Amorim has provided an update on who could be available to face Spurs.

"Me neither [didn't expect Joshua Zirkzee to be fit]! They recovered quite well. They pushed. Of course, we respect the feeling of the player but we pushed a little bit. They can help us win the game. De Ligt is out."

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been given a huge boost ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur - with the trio of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot all in training for the Red Devils ahead of their crunch clash in Bilbao.

United know that a win would somehow save their season in the most unconventional of routes. Their domestic form has been shambolic, but last season's FA Cup win over local rivals Manchester City handed them a place in the Europa League, and by reaching the final, a win would put them into the Champions League despite finishing lower than 7th in both of their two previous seasons.

Just one game away from lifting the trophy, Amorim will need every available player to see the game over the line - and he's been given a boost with two of his star defenders and one of his striking force being available for the clash in northern Spain.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by @SamC_reports states that Yoro, Dalot and Zirkzee are all back in training after suffering injury woes over the past few weeks.

United have been light on player availability in recent weeks, with consistent injuries blighting their campaign on domestic soil to leave them 16th in the Premier League. But that is set to change ahead of their huge game against Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham outfit, with the trio back in training in their bid to force United over the line and into next season's Champions League as a result.

Yoro has been a revelation since joining from Lille in the summer, one of INEOS' best buys in Amorim's preferred three-back formation - and having seen Luke Shaw feature on the left side of the three, Yoro's return will offer more defensive stability.

Spurs appear to have bigger injury problems than their Premier League rivals. James Maddison, arguably Tottenham's best player, suffered a knee injury at the start of May and was ruled out of the Europa League final shortly after.

However, he was included in Spurs' travelling squad for the match, sparking rumours he could be fit to play a part. Whether he is fit enough to feature remains to be seen.

Another of Spurs' most influential players, Dejan Kulusevski, will also miss the final. The Swede suffered a knee injury against Crystal Palace earlier this month which required surgery. Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall are also sidelined, having suffered knee and ankle injuries respectively, while Timo Werner will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Youngster Dane Scarlett, who has made a handful of appearances this season, has a groin injury, while Spurs are sweating on Pape Matar Sarr's fitness after the midfielder went off with a back complaint against Aston Villa last week. He could still make the final, though, with Postecoglou saying he did not think his injury was serious.

United have several issues in defence. Lisandro Martinez will miss the final after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee back in February. The injury is expected to rule him out until the end of the year.

Both Matthijs De Ligt and Leny Yoro could also miss the final after recent injuries. Speaking about the duo, Amorim said on the defensive pair: "I don't know if they're going to be available, we'll try to push, it's a final, all the players want to play really bad."

Diogo Dalot has been out of action for the last month after picking up a calf injury. He has resumed individual training, though, and could be selected if he passes a fitness test. Jonny Evans has not played for United since December 2024 and is expected to be unavailable.

Spurs have lost 21 of their 37 Premier League games, and can only finish in a maximum 14th place in the division, whilst a draw would see them finish only as high as 16th should Manchester United lose their final game of the campaign.

The north London club are one game away from winning their first trophy in 17 years, but a poor domestic campaign has meant that the Aussie gaffer is teetering on the verge of the exit door - and that will see Paratici reportedly make a move for Farioli to replace him despite Ajax crumbling in the Eredivisie title race.

One manager potentially in the running to replace the Australian is Farioli, with reports suggesting that Fabio Paratici is keen to bring in the young coach. Now, Romano has reported that Farioli is set to leave Ajax with immediate effect.

Farioli, described as 'phenomenal', saw his Ajax side beaten to the Eredivisie title on the final day by PSV Eindhoven at the weekend. Farioli joined Ajax back in July last year, but he now looks set to depart after just one season in charge.

It's unclear whether he's moving on due to being offered a new role elsewhere, but it's also been confirmed by Ajax that he's decided to leave. Whether Spurs now make a move remains to be seen, but it could be an ideal opportunity for them to find a Postecoglou replacement.

There might be concerns that Farioli was unable to win the league with Ajax this season, but he did take over the Dutch club in a struggling position. Ajax finished fifth last term, 35 points behind PSV, so it's safe to say he's helped steer the club back in the right direction.

Postecoglou remains in charge at Tottenham for now, but there's no guarantee we see him in the hot seat heading into the 2025/2026 campaign.

When looking at their form in the Premier League and comparing it to their displays on the continent, it has been a contrasting season for Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites will face Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday, with the winner securing a place in next season’s Champions League.

Early in 2024, Roy Hodgson’s second stint in charge of Crystal Palace came to an end and in his place, the Eagles appointed Oliver Glasner. The Austrian had won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023, a suggestion as to the quality of manager that Palace were appointing.

Palace ended the 2023/24 season in form under Glasner, who struggled in the opening stages of his first full season in charge, having lost Joachim Andersen and more notably, Michael Olise. Soon enough, Glasner got a tune from his team once more and Palace have improved across the campaign ever since.

In his first full season, Glasner has already etched his name into Palace folklore. The manager guided his side to a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, giving Palace their first-ever major trophy. It also ensured that Crystal Palace would be playing in the Europa League next season, another first for the club. Glasner has been described as "incredible" for his work at Palace so far.

Spurs, in turn, must throw everything they have at Glasner to try and convince him into moving to North London. He has proven that he can handle the level of the Premier League and in just 18 months, has won a trophy, something that Spurs have failed to do for almost two decades now.

Sport Witness have reported that there has already been contact from Spurs to Glasner, who would bring with him proof that he can win silverware, which has to be the ultimate aim for Spurs. Postecoglou could, in the Europa League final, bring an end to the drought. Perhaps Glasner, though, is better suited to give Spurs a continued chance at winning major honours.
