According to a report from Sports Boom, Arsenal and Tottenham are locked in a hot pursuit to try to sign Real Sociedad forward Ander Barrenetxea in the summer transfer window.

It's claimed that Arsenal are already preparing an opening bid in the region of £26 million, but Tottenham intend to make him a key target.

Barrenetxea is believed to have a release clause in the region of £65 million, and Real Sociedad will be pointing directly to that in negotiations.

It appears Arsenal's potential offer isn't going to be enough, and either they or Tottenham will need to fork out a hefty amount of money to secure his signature.

It feels unlikely that either club would be willing to pay the £65 million, and it remains to be seen whether Real Sociedad are willing to negotiate.

Arsenal Likely to Have Advantage in Race

If Arsenal and Tottenham are both battling it out for the signing of Barrenetxea, described as a 'baller', it feels unlikely that Spurs would be able to win the race.

Arsenal were able to offer Champions League football, which in turn would likely mean more game time due to more competitions and rotation.

On the other hand, Tottenham's squad certainly isn't as good, so there is a chance that Barrenetxea could nail down a starting spot in Roberto De Zerbi's side.

Either way, it appears that Real Sociedad aren't going to let him go without a fight unless one of the two sides decides to trigger his release clause.

The bid has been described as 'serious' according to a report by Dutch outlet VI, and it has now emerged that the two clubs are in negotiations to find an agreement, with a deal possibly being finalised before the World Cup begins next week.

Van Hecke is understood to be very open to joining the north London club, having entered the final year of his contract with the Seagulls, and is looking for a new challenge in his career.

Spurs are understood to be in pole position to get a deal done for the 25-year-old, despite rival interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Personal terms are not an issue, with a contract broadly agreed between club and player, and van Hecke believes that Tottenham will quickly bounce back towards the top of the division under the management of De Zerbi.

De Zerbi and Van Hecke worked together at Brighton between 2022 and 2024, and the Italian coach views the centre back as a crucial building block to getting the team away from relegation battles and back to contention in Europe.

Van Hecke Valuation Could Be an Issue

Van Hecke is entering the final year of his contract at the Amex Stadium, but that hasn't stopped Brighton from slapping a £70m valuation on his head as they look for maximum value.

Spurs' initial bid was below that valuation, although it hasn't been made public what the amount was, but if Brighton are going to keep demanding such a big fee, then it could well stop any deal from progressing as quickly as they'd hope.

Tottenham are set to rekindle their interest in Manchester City winger Savinho, GIVEMESPORT understands.

Spurs made a series of offers for the Brazilian last summer, with the highest bid exceeding £60million. Savinho wanted to join, but GMS understands Manchester City board member Ferran Soriano blocked the move.

City felt selling Savinho was a mistake, believing his high-ceiling was just cause to keep him at the club. The Brazilian went on to make 24 Premier League appearances last season, scoring just once.

Savinho will miss the World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico

The 22-year-old Savinho failed to make Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the World Cup and will now consider his Manchester City future. Key to any decision will be incoming new manager Enzo Maresca, and whether Savinho feels he will get enough game time at the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs’ bid last summer was viewed as competitive, but Manchester City decided not to sell at any price.

There has been no new bid for Savinho yet, but that could change this month as Spurs want to move quickly to back Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer market.

Agreements in principle are already in place with defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to sign on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively. Spurs want to move quickly to formalise both deals to avoid any surprises.

Spurs are also one of the clubs to have considered Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, but Everton are considered frontrunners for his signature.

And there is an appreciation for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, who is also on Manchester United’s list of options to sign this summer. Bournemouth intend to try and ward off suitors for him by offering Scott a new deal as they hope to end summer speculation over his future.

Roberto De Zerbi will be in the market for players who can easily slot into his brand of high-risk football at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

After saving the club from relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season, De Zerbi will want to put his stamp on an ailing squad that he inherited from interim head coach Igor Tudor and previous permanent boss Thomas Frank.

The Italian has admitted that he has "10, 11, 12 players good enough to stay" suggesting that Spurs are in for a massive overhaul this summer.

According to the Telegraph, Tottenham have seen a bid for Jan Paul van Hecke rejected by Brighton as De Zerbi looks to link up with one of his former players in N17.

Van Hecke is currently out in the United States of America with the Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup, so any deal will likely have to wait until his participation in the tournament is over, but Spurs have set out their stall early in a bid to sign the 25-year-old.

Reports suggest that Brighton value van Hecke at around the £70million mark, with no indication as to what price Spurs went to the Seagulls with initially.

Van Hecke was the joint-seventh highest scoring defender in the Premier League this season, netting three goals, while only 11 defenders got more than his three assists too.

De Zerbi expects a lot from his defenders on the ball, and only Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Nottingham Forest man Elliot Anderson having more touches of the ball this season than the Brighton man. Van Hecke also made more passes than anyone else in the Premier League bar van Dijk.

Only three players in the league had more successful short passes than van Hecke, while only four defenders were more successful with long passes too.

He was ninth in the league for total number of interceptions made and ninth for duels won, showing just how important he was to Brighton.

If Tottenham could get a deal over the line, they would certainly be getting one of the Premier League's elite defenders, but should they go back to the table with another bid?

Spurs may be better off waiting on van Hecke deal

Van Hecke only has one year left on his contract at the Amex Stadium and Brighton will want to make some money from him, rather than see him leave on a free next summer.

But they may find Spurs - and others - walking away from a deal if they demand £70million for a player with only one year left on his current contract. Even though he is a player De Zerbi loves.

Speaking during his time at Brighton, the Italian said: "Jan Paul’s improvement has been incredible. He is a very smart player, he understands the spaces, and he has the courage to play the ball between the lines under heavy pressure. For my style of football, he became a crucial player because he plays with his head as well as his heart."

This is likely to be a transfer saga that runs on and on. Brighton are notoriously tough negotiators and will demand top dollar to sell the player, who has also been courted by Chelsea and Liverpool so far this summer. They will hope to start a bidding war for the 25-year-old, but while Spurs will want to get a deal over the line, for a player De Zerbi knows and loves, they may be best placed to play the waiting game on this one, to see if they can test Brighton's resolve over that price.

Doing so could count against them if the player has a strong World Cup and Brighton think about increasing the price tag on his shoulders, although the point will still stand that he only has a year remaining on his deal.

If Brighton do not budge, they risk losing the defender for nothing next summer and from Spurs' point of view - with lots of other deals to be done all over the park - spending £70million may not make sense on a player available for free next summer.

The Argentine has been strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and while the club tied him to a new long-term contract last summer, they are unlikely to stand in his way if they receive an acceptable offer.

Van Hecke, Senesi, Vand de Ven, and Kevin Danso would provide excellent centre-back options in his absence, and would provide fantastic quality depth and competition for places. This is most certainly a chain of events to keep a close eye on.

Diomande has age on his side, at just 19 years old, and he's already making a significant impact at a strong level.

The Ivory Coast forward provided 19 goals and assists in the Bundesliga during the 2025-2026 campaign, despite being far from reaching his full potential.

Savinho is coming off a disappointing season where he struggled to make an impact, whereas Diomande is in red-hot form.

The Leipzig winger will likely cost more and be a difficult deal to complete, but Tottenham need to ask the question again.

However, as time has moved on, it may be that Scott is now available to complete a move away from the Vitality Stadium this summer, with a report from the Athletic stating that "an extension is seen as unlikely".

The Athletic report goes on to state that United have made inquiries as to the cost of a deal, with Scott having just two years left to run on his current deal on the south coast. It is thought Bournemouth would demand around £60million to even consider selling the midfielder who has been described as "elite" by Nigel Pearson, who was his manager at Bristol City before moving to Bournemouth.

Pearson said: "He's a unique talent. I've heard him compared to lots of players, but Alex is just a top-class young player who has a very level head. He will go on to play for England, I have absolutely no doubt about that. He is destination elite."

Spurs may hold an advantage over United, should they look to pursue a move, given Scott grew up as a Tottenham fan.

Speaking after scoring against Arsenal, he said: "Yes, I support Tottenham, though that doesn't have much to do with today. But growing up as a kid, it was definitely a dream for me [to score against Arsenal]. Bournemouth are my team at the minute but I was a Tottenham fan growing up, so as a kid growing up, I would have been really happy with that."

The England international spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Villa. Newcastle, meanwhile, see him as a potential replacement for Gordon.

Marcus Rashford prefers Barcelona move

According to the report, Rashford's preference is to return to Barcelona. The La Liga outfit have a £26million option to buy the player but that expires on June 15.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta all want the player to return to the La Liga champions.

While the Spanish club do want to keep Rashford, they do not want to spend the £26million and are more likely to offer £15million to United after June 15.

The Red Devils are relaxed about the situation and believe interest from other clubs gives them a better chance of selling Rashford for £26million, which in itself is a bargain price for a player of his quality and experience.

If Rashford does not leave the Red Devils before pre-season, he is expected to report to Carrington after the World Cup.

He is under contract with United until 2028, with wages worth £325,000-a-week.

Rashford, who Gordon labelled as 'one of the best players in the world', would upgrade Tottenham's attack and provide the experience the club wants this summer.
