Description

Tottenham Hotspur secured yet another away win in the Premier League, moving up to third in the League table following their victory over Everton.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from Tottenham’s win against Everton:

Micky van de Ven shines as he leads Tottenham’s top scorer chart

It has been a season of set plays in the Premier League, and Tottenham Hotspur have not been left behind as Thomas Frank has made his side increasingly dangerous from dead-ball situations.

Today was a timely reminder of just how good Tottenham are from set pieces, and it was the captain on the night, Micky van de Ven, who was getting his head on those deliveries right at the top of Jordan Pickford.

Everton had been strong when defending set pieces and had yet to concede a goal from such situations, but Spurs ended that run by grabbing two well-taken corners.

The Dutchman’s tally is now up to five for the season, and for a player who scored none last campaign, that is surely a huge step up.

Frank had once mentioned how he was looking to improve van de Ven’s goalscoring from set pieces, and that work is clearly paying off. He also becomes Spurs’ top scorer for the season with his brace.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Thomas Frank’s new 4-4-2 tweak gives Tottenham fresh edge

Talk about Tottenham’s lack of creativity has been rampant, especially as they struggled in their last two matches to create against Aston Villa and AS Monaco.

Today saw Frank tweak his setup, which at times looked like a 4-4-2 with Mohammed Kudus and Brennan Johnson interchanging between right midfield and striker.

Xavi Simons also looked to come inside a lot more despite starting on the left, while Djed Spence often hugged the touchline to provide width.

This tactical change seemed to spark some improvement, with Tottenham getting a win after managing just one in their last five.

However, with just one goal from open play, it is difficult to tell if the tweak worked to perfection.

The underlying numbers do show a step up in performance, though, with Tottenham creating four big chances and managing an xG of 2.08.

To put that into context, Spurs managed to create four big chances in their last two matches combined, while managing an xG of 1.63 in that period.

Vicario saved Tottenham with some superb stops again

Guglielmo Vicario has faced criticism already this season after a couple of howlers in recent weeks, with fans even calling for him to be dropped.

The Italian, however, has responded with some commanding performances, with his excellent shot-stopping keeping Tottenham in games once again.

He managed a clean sheet in midweek against AS Monaco and grabbed another against Everton.

Beto’s overhead kick looked destined for the net before Vicario stuck out an arm, while a couple of efforts were heading goalwards until the Italian’s sharp interventions denied them.

He prevented 0.96 goals on the night – a solid showing from the Spurs keeper.

Spurs away form vs home form in the Premier League

Tottenham’s home form leaves a lot to be desired, and Thomas Frank is very much aware of how poor his side has been at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Away from home, though, Spurs have been the team to beat, with no side in the league managing a better away record.

From five games on the road, Tottenham have picked up 13 points, scoring 12 goals and conceding just three.

At home, however, they have the 17th-worst record, collecting just four points from four home matches, scoring five and conceding four.

If Frank and his side can sort out their home form, then a push for the top four remains very realistic. Next up in the league is a home clash against Chelsea – if only it were away, but we shall see.

Xavi Simons struggles as Spurs star was unhappy to be hooked

Overall, it was a perfect night for Tottenham, who have now moved up into third place after several of their rivals failed to secure wins.

There are positives to take and things to improve, but Frank would still be scratching his head over Simons.

The Dutchman still has not found rhythm in a Tottenham shirt, and despite Frank’s tactical adjustments, he struggled to make much of an impact in this fixture.

He was taken off at the 60-minute mark and did not look pleased about it. There were some positives, though, with Simons getting on the ball more often – it is now about improving his decision-making in the final third.

Description

The full-time whistle has blown between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in the Premier League, and the player ratings are in.

Below, we have given each Tottenham player a performance rating on a scale of 0-10, with 10 highest score achievable for an impressive performance.

How the Tottenham players rated vs Everton

Guglielmo Vicario – The Italian once again looked impressive between the sticks, making several smart stops. In the second half, Beto called him into action with an overhead kick, but Vicario was equal to the task, preventing a clear goal-scoring opportunity. 8.

Pedro Porro – Held his ground against Jack Grealish for most of the game when Everton looked to attack down Spurs’ right. Also produced a lovely assist for Tottenham’s second with a pinpoint delivery from a corner. 8.

Kevin Danso – Picked up from where he left off in the first half, snuffing out Everton’s threat and reacting quickly to block Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s attempt early in the second half to keep Tottenham ahead. 7.

Micky van de Ven – A true captain’s performance from the Dutch centre-back, who did his damage in the opposition box, grabbing two goals from corners and taking his tally to five for the season while helping Tottenham to a fourth clean sheet. 10.

Djed Spence – Much like in the first half, Iliman Ndiaye continued to pose a threat down Tottenham’s left, and Spence struggled to contain the Senegalese winger, who created a couple of good opportunities for Everton. 6.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrigo Bentancur – The Uruguayan grabbed an assist to set Tottenham on their way and was strong defensively, making several blocks, headers and interceptions as Spurs looked to see out their two-goal lead. 8.

Joao Palhinha – Spurs may have struggled to create from open play, but in a match where defending was key in the final 45 minutes, Palhinha and Bentancur, in the holding roles, were crucial. Palhinha did the defensive work superbly, winning headers and making important blocks. 8.

Xavi Simons – The Dutchman was more involved in this one, as Frank allowed him to drift inside alongside Mohammed Kudus. However, he did not create much and could have done better with his decision-making in the final third. Later replaced by Lucas Bergvall. 6.

Mohammed Kudus – No stranger to playing in the attacking midfield role, which is where Frank deployed him, though Tottenham still struggled to create from open play. The Ghanaian worked tirelessly off the ball, tracking back well, and his corner deliveries remained excellent. 7.

Randal Kolo Muani – The Frenchman showed throughout that he is capable of leading the line, linking play effectively with those around him. Still working his way to full fitness, he was replaced on the hour mark. 6.

Brennan Johnson – Solid performance overall, even if his best work did not come in Everton’s box. Johnson was willing to put in the defensive shift, often helping Porro against Grealish. 7.

Substitues

Richarlison – The former Everton man came off the bench to replace Kolo Muani and was full of running. He had a good chance to make it three but fired straight at Jordan Pickford after a James Tarkowski error. Made up for it with an assist for Pape Matar Sarr’s late goal. 7.

Lucas Bergvall – The young Swede replaced Simons and slotted into the number ten role on the left-hand side, but did not make much of an impact in the final third. 6.

Description

The half-time whistle has blown between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in the Premier League, and the player ratings are in.

Below, we have given each Tottenham player a performance rating on a scale of 0-10, with 10 highest score achievable for an impressive performance.

Tottenham player ratings vs Everton

Guglielmo Vicario –Started the half in good fashion, picking up from where he left off in midweek with a few strong stops. His blushes were spared by VAR after Everton’s goal from a corner was overturned for offside. 7.

Pedro Porro – Was called into defensive action quite early in the fixture when Jack Grealish met Iliman Ndiaye’s cross, but the Spurs full-back was on hand to make a vital block. He has also stood his ground when marking the Everton wide man. Porro later grabbed an assist from a corner, helping Spurs double their lead. 8.

Kevin Danso – Helped keep things tight at the back, dealing well with Everton’s threat in behind and from long balls. A solid display so far. 7.

Micky van de Ven – Opened the scoring from a corner after Rodrigo Bentancur’s attempted header found the Dutchman unmarked in the six-yard box for a free header, which he converted superbly. Was on target again from yet another corner, meeting Porro’s delivery to double Spurs’ advantage. 10.

Djed Spence – Ndiaye proved a handful for the Englishman early on, with the Senegalese forward creating a good chance from Spence’s flank, but Grealish failed to convert. Frank’s latest tweak has seen Spence hug the touchline when Tottenham are in possession, though the full-back has yet to create anything meaningful from that area. 6.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrigo Bentancur – Frank has persisted with Bentancur, and the Uruguayan has certainly repaid the manager’s faith by grabbing an assist from the corner. The 28-year-old came close later in the half with a long-range effort destined for the top corner, only for it to drift wide. 8.

Joao Palhinha – Spurs did not concede in the first half and have handled the physicality of Everton’s midfield well, largely thanks to Palhinha in that holding role alongside Bentancur. Both have looked solid in the middle. 7.

Xavi Simons – The tactical tweaks continue, and in this fixture, Simons has operated more centrally when Spurs have possession, as Frank looks to get him more involved and boost Tottenham’s creativity. Has been casual at times, losing the ball in promising situations. 5.

Mohammed Kudus – There has been a tactical shift from Frank, with Kudus operating in the number ten position. The former West Ham man has seen plenty of the ball and worked hard tracking back when needed. He was involved in Tottenham’s opener with a wicked delivery from a corner. 7.

Randal Kolo Muani – A first start since his deadline day move, and he has linked up play well, combining neatly with those around him. Played in Simons after dropping deep with a lovely flick, but the midfielder’s poor decision in the final third prevented a threatening situation from developing. A solid display so far. 6.

Description

The Tottenham Hotspur team has been announced for the Premier League fixture against Everton.

Tottenham make their first-ever visit to the brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium in search of their first win in their last three matches.

Everton are still unbeaten at their new home after four matches and thankfully, Spurs’ away form has been respectable, a stark contrast to what fans have had to endure in N17.

Thomas Frank’s side were once again considerably below par in midweek when they drew 0-0 with Monaco in the Champions League, a result they could have easily lost if it were not for the heroics of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The Toffees have won just one of their last six outings, but sit comfortably in mid-table having seen a vast improvement since David Moyes returned as manager.

The Tottenham Hotspur team vs Everton

Tottenham are once again without Cristian Romero due to an adductor strain, which has kept him out since the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Destiny Udogie, Dominic Solanke, Ben Davies, Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, Kota Takai and James Maddison are all still out.

This is the Tottenham Hotspur team which takes to the field on Merseyside today:

Everton XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Keane, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Beto.

Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Simons, Johnson; Kolo Muani.

Subs: Kinsky, Byfield, Gray, Bergvall, Sarr, Richarlison, Tel, Odobert, Scarlett

Tottenham need to get their act together and fast

Tottenham have looked way below average in recent matches, especially in attacking areas with his side showing a massive lack of creativity.

The reality is that Spurs cannot afford to take any more time to get their act together when you look at who they will face in their five Premier League matches following today’s fixture against Everton.

Three London derbies, the visit of in-form Manchester United and a midweek trip to Newcastle will certainly put the Tottenham squad to the test over the coming weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur will not like the latest news coming out of Brazil about a young forward, who they have made advances towards over recent weeks.

We have now known for nearly a month that Tottenham’s scouts are closely watching a young Brazilian starlet.

Vasco Da Gama winger Rayan is thought to be someone who has impressed Spurs this season, with the Lilywhites even allegedly exploring getting a work permit for the 19-year-old ahead of a potential January transfer.

Rayan has a release clause of €40m (£34.3m), but over recent days, there have been some murmurs in Brazil that the Tottenham target could be in line to get a new contract.

Vasco Da Gama director makes big admission about Tottenham target Rayan

Vasco’s director of football, Admar Lopes, has now confirmed that negotiations have indeed begun to tie the 19-year-old to a new deal at the club.

He revealed that conversations on a new deal for Rayan are now ‘advanced’ and asserted that it will see the value of the player’s release clause increase if signed.

When asked if a new contract is in the offing for the young Spurs target, Lopes told Globo Esporte: “The conversations are advanced and things are going well, both with the family and with the agents and the player. We are confident that, in the coming weeks or by the end of the year, we will be able to conclude this renewal. It is also the player’s wish.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“A renewal of a player with this impact is to increase everything. The financial terms, the duration of the contract and the release clause. All to protect Vasco da Gama.”

Vasco boss is desperate for Rayan to stay

The Brazilian club’s manager, Fernando Diniz, has made it clear that he does not want the club to sell the teenage forward under any circumstances. He suggested that Rayan is the most complete striker currently playing his trade in the Brasileiro Serie A.

When asked about the 19-year-old’s future, Diniz told ESPN: “When I arrived here, I told them (the Vasco hierarchy) that he was unsellable. Sell the pitch, sell the goalposts, but don’t sell Rayan. His potential is immense. He’s only at the beginning.

“Maybe he’s the most complete striker in Brazilian football, without a shadow of doubt. He can play wide, as a number nine, as a ten. He’s strong, explosive, left-footed, scores goals… He has everything you can imagine in a player. He’s very special.”

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s on-loan forward Will Lankshear finally got back on the scoresheet for Oxford United after a six-game goal drought.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping Will Lankshear can continue to build momentum this term, as the young forward looks to make his loan spell with Oxford United count.

Last season’s six-month stint with West Bromwich Albion did not exactly go to plan for the Spurs striker, who failed to register a single goal in his 11 appearances for the Championship side.

This campaign, however, has already offered far more promise for the 20-year-old, who has been heavily involved for the O’s, and in his latest outing, he made his mark once again with a crucial goal

Tottenham’s Will Lankshear scores in Oxford United win over Sheffield Wednesday

In Oxford United’s latest League fixture against Sheffield Wednesday, Will Lankshear opened the scoring for Gary Rowett’s side, who went on to claim a 2-1 victory.

It was Lankshear’s fourth goal of the season from 10 starts, and it brought an end to a six-game barren run in front of goal.

When the ball was recycled back to Cameron Brannagan in a central position after a set-piece, the Oxford midfielder clipped a teasing ball into the box that would have evaded everyone if not for Lankshear’s diving header at the back post.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Interestingly, the header also ended an unusual pattern for the youngster, as he had never previously been on the winning side in matches where he had found the back of the net.

Watch Will Lankshear’s goal against Sheffield Wednesday here:

Spurs will be happy with their young striker

The Tottenham forward featured for 76 minutes before being substituted, earning a solid 7.8 FotMob rating for his display.

It was a confident showing from Lankshear, who registered three shots, created one chance, completed seven of his 11 passes, and saw two of his efforts test the goalkeeper.

He also showed intent to contribute in the build-up phase, registering 26 touches overall, including two inside the opposition box, while completing two passes into the final third.

Tottenham and Man City are both tracking one of Aston Villa’s best defenders - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham and Manchester City are among several top Premier League clubs monitoring one of England’s standout defenders ahead of the 2026 window.

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be in the market for a centre-back in 2026, with a marquee signing said to be on Spurs’ radar.

It is not entirely surprising, given Thomas Frank’s current options at the back, with injuries keeping Radu Dragusin, Cristian Romero, and Kota Takai out of action.

Spurs need more options in defence, and a new report has linked them with a Premier League defender who is also attracting attention from Manchester City.

Tottenham and Manchester City monitoring Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa

According to TBR Football, Tottenham are understood to be assessing their options in central defence ahead of 2026, and are among the clubs who admire Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

Manchester City are also believed to be showing interest in the England international, who has become an integral figure in Unai Emery’s side.

Konsa’s ability to play both at centre-back and full-back is another factor that appeals to City, with his versatility viewed as a key strength.

MORE SPURS STORIES

But it is not just Spurs and City who are monitoring the defender, as the report reveals that Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United have also watched Konsa at various points over the last 12 months.

Interest in Ezri Konsa extends beyond the Premier League

Interest in Konsa is not limited to England, with Italian sides Inter Milan and Napoli, along with RB Leipzig, all said to be keeping tabs on the 28-year-old.

Aston Villa are, however, unwilling to part ways with one of their key players. Yet with PSR concerns lingering over the Birmingham-based club, there is a belief among rival sides that some names could be lured away from Villa Park, and Konsa is viewed as one of the most attainable.

Speaking on the situation, transfer insider Graeme Bailey confirmed that Konsa’s name is increasingly being mentioned in club circles.

He said, “Ezri Konsa’s name is coming up quite a lot when you talk to clubs about potential defensive options.

“Clearly, Villa do not want to sell but he has just over two years left on his deal, he is now one of England’s top defenders, and Villa are likely going to have to tie him down to a new deal.

“Konsa is a nailed-on Premier League performer who is now showing it at international level. It is not a shock to me that some very big clubs are keeping an eye on him.”

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive a timely boost as one of their long-term absentees nears a long-awaited return, but his national side may have jumped the gun.

Tottenham Hotspur have had to cope with several injuries in recent weeks, particularly in defence, with Radu Dragusin, Kota Takai, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies all sidelined.

Thomas Frank has therefore been forced to rely heavily on Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven in the absence of some of his stars in recent weeks.

Radu Dragusin, however, has been out since January and is now edging closer to full fitness, although he is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham despite having returned to first-team training for some time.

Romania call up Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin

Romania have been eager to see the centre-back return, particularly ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches.

The Spurs defender was wanted during the October international break, but Tottenham’s medical team intervened as they did not want the 23-year-old rushed back into action, even though Romania were keen to have him around the squad.

A fresh report from the Daily Mail now states that Romania have once again called up Dragusin for next month’s international fixtures.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Tottenham centre-back has been named in Mircea Lucescu’s preliminary squad for matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and San Marino, as Romania look to secure a spot in next year’s World Cup finals.

Victory in Bosnia would give Lucescu’s side a strong chance of finishing second in Group H behind Austria, but any other result would leave them relying on Austria to do them a favour when they face Bosnia in their final fixture.

Dragusin recovery is a boost for Spurs, but a setback would be disastrous

It was an ACL injury that kept Dragusin out for such a lengthy period, but he now appears to be nearing full fitness.

At some point, the Romania international will need to get back on the pitch in a competitive fixture, though it is understandable that the Spurs medical staff are keen to manage his return carefully.

Tottenham fans debate Lucas Bergvall’s current transfer value after standout season - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans are debating what Lucas Bergvall would be worth in today’s inflated transfer market, as the Swedish teenager continues to grow in stature at the club.

Lucas Bergvall is a player with huge potential, and Tottenham Hotspur will be over the moon that they managed to sign him in February 2024.

The Swede, 19, announced himself to the Lilywhite faithful in style last season, having managed a clean sweep of three individual awards in what was his debut campaign.

Barcelona were in the race for the Spurs man, but Tottenham managed to secure the services of Bergvall, having reached a £15.7 million agreement with Djurgardens.

Tottenham fans discuss Lucas Bergvall’s current market value

One pundit believes that Bergvall’s value has more than tripled, stating that in this current market, Bergvall is valued at £110 million, which, for context, is around the same price Arsenal paid for Declan Rice, who was bought for £5 million less.

Spurs fans taking to social media have now named how much they think Bergvall would cost in the current transfer market, with various prices being thrown around.

One fan said: “One hundred million billion pounds.” Another stated: “He is a wonderkid with great potential. Current EL champion. £80M at least. However, he is priceless to us and worth more if he becomes a legend here. First year started well.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Another Tottenham commented on Lucas Bergvall: “£45-55m from a small club, £80-90 if he was at Barca or any top two team in each top five league.”

Another opined: “I mean, we bought him literally a year ago for about £15m, so I am guessing slightly more than that?”

One more added: “£30-40m at current ability, massive potential but needs to keep developing. He is not silky enough to play as a 10.”

More comments kept coming in: “£80 million and I mean it, the potential makes up most of the value,” while another said: “If I am realistic, £65 million right now.” Others priced him at: “£65 million now but will grow. COYS🤍” and “£125 million.”

Bergvall’s rise and growing value at Spurs

Bergvall is currently valued at €40 million (£34 million) on Transfermarkt, but he would almost certainly fetch far more than that if Tottenham decided to sell him.

The teenager has been making significant strides in a Spurs shirt, having been shortlisted for the European Golden Boy award.

Bergvall has also been described as a generational talent by Tottenham’s head of scouting, highlighting just how highly regarded he is within the club’s setup.

Description

Sunderland have made their presence in the Premier League felt in more ways than one, and their latest victory over Chelsea has come with a cheeky twist that involves Tottenham Hotspur.

The twist and drama in the Premier League is already in full flow, with a few surprises having already sprung up.

Chelsea are the latest to be stunned, and it was newly promoted Sunderland who did the stunning as they beat the World Champions 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

That result now sees Sunderland leap all the way up to second place, having collected a rather impressive 17 points in their opening nine games.

Sunderland’s win over Chelsea sparks Tottenham chant

Chelsea took the lead early on against the Black Cats, with Alejandro Garnacho striking inside the opening stages, but a well-worked goal from a throw-in saw Isidor draw the visitors level.

However, right at the death, a swift counterattack saw Sunderland snatch all three points through Talbi, after Chelsea’s defenders simply forgot to do their jobs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

During their clash with Chelsea, Sunderland supporters made sure to have some fun at the expense of Enzo Maresca’s men, as chants about Tottenham Hotspur echoed around the Bridge.

The travelling fans could be heard singing, “Oh Tottenham, we love you,” in what was a playful jab at The Blues.

Chelsea face Spurs next as London rivalry heats up

Of course, the rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea is nothing new, given that they are both London clubs and have long shared a fierce, sometimes bitter, competitive edge.

The Blues will be desperate to bounce back quickly from their latest disappointment, but their next Premier League fixture brings another major challenge – a meeting with Thomas Frank’s Tottenham side.

Chelsea have an excellent recent record against Tottenham, having won the last four meetings between the two sides, yet Frank’s men will be eager to flip that script and pile further misery on Maresca and his players.
