Description

Some Spurs players will be relieved after hearing who will be officiating Tottenham’s clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Newcastle, desperate for a win, with many already calling for Thomas Frank to be sacked by the North London club.

Former Tottenham captain Michael Dawson has urged the club and the fans to give Frank time to build a foundation at Spurs.

However, the Tottenham head coach has seen fan sentiment turn against him decisively after his recent comments, and he desperately needs a win to inject some belief back into this project.

Tom Bramall will be the referee for Newcastle v Tottenham

The Premier League have confirmed that Tom Bramall will officiate Spurs’ clash at St James’ Park, while Lee Betts and Mat Wilkes will be the assistants.

Tony Harrington has been named as the fourth official, while VAR will be supervised by Paul Howard, who will be assisted by Adam Nunn.

Harrington is a relatively inexperienced Premier League official, and according to Transfermarkt, he has only officiated three Spurs games before this one.

MORE SPURS STORIES

One of those was Tottenham’s 2-1 win at Elland Road earlier this season, with the other two being Spurs’ 5-1 defeat at home to Liverpool last season and a FA Cup tie against Portsmouth in the 2022-23 season, which the Lilywhites emerged 1-0 winners.

Four Spurs players will be pleased with Bramall’s card record

Cristian Romero is back from suspension after serving his one-match ban against Fulham for picking up five yellow cards.

Ahead of the clash against Fulham, we revealed that Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha and Kevin Danso were on three yellow cards each, and they have now been joined on three bookings by Micky van de Ven, who was cautioned against the Cottagers.

That means that all four players are now two yellows away from a suspension.

They will be happy to hear that Bramall has only shown five yellow cards to Tottenham players across his three matches, which indicates he is not quick to go to his notebook.

Description

Tottenham are edging into worrying territory as the pressure tightens around Thomas Frank, and the manager has now spoken about the team meetings held in an attempt to steady the ship.

Tottenham Hotspur are entering a crisis, given the poor results in recent months under Thomas Frank.

The Lilywhites have managed just the one win in their last five games in all competitions, while they ended November without a single Premier League win.

Frustration has been echoing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with fans not sparing Frank and his players any flak after poor displays.

What Thomas Frank told Tottenham players in team meeting before Newcastle clash

Something has to change really fast for the Dane, who is coming under intense pressure.

Up next is another difficult fixture, as Tottenham head to St James’ Park to take on a Newcastle side that has won two games on the bounce in the Premier League.

Given Tottenham’s poor form, Frank has now explained that he and his staff have held several meetings with the players as they try to address recent issues and prepare for what lies ahead.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He revealed that the sessions have focused on both reviewing the Fulham defeat and setting up the plan for Newcastle.

He told the official Tottenham channel: “We had meetings yesterday and today and yes of course like normal, we debrief the Fulham game, today we are looking more forward to Newcastle.

“There will be some more meetings tomorrow. We want to build something sustainable that can complete in all tournaments.

“Competing on both fronts, that is something that takes some time to learn physically and mentally. We need to find the right formula to click.

“As a good example this period we are in now, we play four fantastic games in 10 days. We also had a spell earlier in the season that was also two, two, two (days between games) it was only us and Arsenal that had that.”

Spurs pressure and the Frank situation

December is set to be a crucial month for Thomas Frank and his side, given the number of games that they will play. Matches will come thick and fast and Frank will need to secure results in games if he is to bring back the feel-good factor to N17.

Failure to get points on the board could lead to talk of a sack, as Tottenham are now in the bottom half of the Premier League table, sitting in 12th place.

Blow for Tottenham in £70m Iliman Ndiaye race as competition intensifies - Spurs Web
Description

The latest update on the future of Tottenham target Iliman Ndiaye comes as a big blow for the North London club.

It has been reported that Tottenham are prepared to back Thomas Frank with big funds in January, with several sources indicating that Spurs want to sign a marquee attacker to signal their ambition.

Some outlets have claimed over recent weeks that Tottenham are ready to turn their attentions to Ndiaye after being impressed by his performances at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this term.

In fact, it has been alleged that Spurs have already made contact over a deal for the Everton man, but it has now emerged that the Lilywhites face intense competition for the 25-year-old.

Man City and Liverpool are ready to battle Tottenham for Iliman Ndiaye

Foot Mercato have now said that Ndiaye’s impressive development this season has caught the eye of scouts from numerous Premier League clubs.

Tottenham are one of those, with the report backing up the claim that Thomas Frank’s men have made enquiries about the winger.

However, unfortunately, the report says that Liverpool and Man City have also launched enquiries for Ndiaye, with the Reds and Cityzens being big fans of the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The publication adds that the Senegal international is high on the transfer shortlist of all three of those clubs.

Why Spurs may struggle to agree a deal for Ndiaye

According to reports, Everton are determined to hang onto the Spurs target. Some sources have even said that it would take an offer of around £70m to get Everton to the negotiating table for Ndiaye.

Even if Tottenham were to put that money on the table, they might still find it challenging to convince the winger to come to N17 unless they shoot up the table over the next few weeks.

The opportunity to go to Anfield or the Etihad would be far more appealing for the Toffees star, especially given the predicament the Lilywhites find themselves in at the moment.

Description

Tony Cascarino has hit back at Thomas Frank after the Dane’s comments about Tottenham fans booing Guglielmo Vicario.

Emerson Royal was the last Tottenham player to get booed by his own fans, and that treatment was handed out by the Spurs faithful to Vicario on Saturday.

After the Italian came out of his line and was caught in no-man’s land, allowing Fulham’s Harry Wilson to strike the ball into an empty net, boos were ringing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the next few times he touched the ball.

There were even ironic cheers from Spurs fans when he made a save, and this did not please their head coach.

Tony Cascarino claims Tottenham fans are within their rights to boo

After the game, Thomas Frank said that it was unacceptable for Spurs fans to boo their own players during a game, suggesting that any jerring should come after the final whistle.

The 52-year-old even asserted that those who booed Vicario were not real Spurs fans, and that comment did not go down well with Cascarino.

The pundit told talkSPORT about Frank’s post-match comments: “It’s wrong. Thomas is wrong. I’ve got a lot of admiration for Thomas Frank and what he did at Brentford. But you’re wrong. You can’t say they’re not true Tottenham fans if they boo. They are true Tottenham fans. They’re making themselves heard.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“They’re unhappy of what they’ve witnessed. And they’ve been unhappy certainly, in the last few weeks at the Tottenham Stadium. They have every right. Look booing is not nice. You can be a player that’s got family or friends in the stands. I had it in my career. I had bad periods where you got booed. You just have to take it and you know what you can win them over.

“But when you make such an error like the keeper did. And they’re booing him because they’re furious with him because they’re thinking, ‘We’ve just been beaten by our arch rivals in the north London derby. Then we’ve been conceded five in Paris. And then, funny enough, after six minutes we’re 2-0 down’. And the second one, mate, is on you.”

Cascarino sympathises with Spurs fans

The former Chelsea star pointed out that Tottenham fans were going to be frustrated at the end of what has been a disastrous week for the club.

He suggested that some fan bases abroad treat their sides even more harshly when they are not happy with the performances.

Asked if the fans are now turning on Frank, Cascarino added: “They’re unhappy. They’ve been unhappy from last season. There’s things that have gone on. Their results have been pretty terrible at home.

“Ange Postecoglou last year, it was a disastrous season. You know and it’s going that way again. I mean because they’ve done okay. You know up until the last week, it has been a terrible week for Tottenham Hotspur.

“You know like Arsenal then PSG and then this game another London derby. It’s been a terrible week. What do you want [the fans] to do? Clap them, applaud them? They’re not going to do that.”

When pressed further on Frank’s comment that those who booed are not ‘true fans’, the 63-year-old said: “No, you can’t say that. You cannot say that. I said to you yesterday, we had a conversation about fans abroad and some of the demands on them.

“We have fans that are very considerate. If it’s booing, it’s as bad as it gets, which it is. That’s the worst thing that fans do. You go abroad and I’m not condoning any of this. But it’s far worse in many different countries.”

Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has now explained why Xavi Simons has struggled for game time in recent weeks.

Thomas Frank has been desperately trying to find his winning formula, and as a result, the Tottenham Hotspur boss has experimented with different setups and personnel in recent weeks.

In the past two games, we have seen Frank use a 4-2-2-2 formation with the Dane also tweaking his personnel, although results have still not improved.

One player who has seen his game time affected by the recent tweaks is Xavi Simons, who is yet to hit the ground running in a Tottenham shirt.

Thomas Frank explains why Xavi Simons has not been starting for Tottenham

Frank has preferred Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray ahead of the Dutchman in recent outings, and now speaking to the official Tottenham channel, he has opened up about Simons and his minutes.

The Dane explained that Simons is highly valued within the Tottenham squad and that the staff are not concerned about his long-term trajectory, before touching on the fact that adaptation plays a role in his current situation.

He said: “There is a reason why we have got Xavi here. He is a very good player in every aspect, he has trained well in the last couple of days, in general he is training well.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“It is not the first time a player has stepped into the Premier League and needs a bit of adaptation to hit the ground running.”

Spurs form and Xavi Simons adaptation

For a player trying to find his feet in a new league, Simons’ adaptation period is not being helped as Spurs as a team are also struggling.

The Tottenham boss is trying to adapt to being a manager in a big six side and has yet to find a system that works, which is also affecting the Dutchman.

That is not to say that Simons has not had his chance, as the 22-year-old has played 17 games for Spurs and has managed just two assists in those outings.

However, with Tottenham set to play four games in the space of ten days, we expect that he will get even more game time.

Thomas Frank reveals private chat with Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham blunder - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has lifted the lid on a private chat he held with Guglielmo Vicario after the Tottenham goalkeeper’s mistake against Fulham at the weekend.

On his day, Guglielmo Vicario is a really top goalkeeper capable of making superb saves, which often helps keep Tottenham Hotspur in games.

Such top heroic performances have already been on show this season in the games against Leeds United and AS Monaco, just to name a few.

Vicario is also amongst the best goalkeepers in the Premier League when it comes to save percentages; but his decision-making with the ball at his feet can sometimes be questionable.

Thomas Frank praises Guglielmo Vicario’s resilience at Tottenham

On Saturday against Fulham, Vicario was responsible for the Cottagers’ second goal, with the goalkeeper giving the ball away cheaply, having acted as sweeper keeper and then opting to pick a pass instead of booting the ball to row Z.

The Tottenham number one since addressed his mistake incident on social media, and now Frank has opened up on the matter.

The Tottenham manager began by praising Vicario’s temperament and highlighted the qualities that impressed him most before expanding on why he values his goalkeeper’s reaction to setbacks.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to the official Tottenham channel, he said: “Vic is remarkable. His character is fantastic in every aspect. I think it is about how you carry yourself every day in good times and bad.

“He is very consistent in that way. Everyone makes mistakes, but the way he carries himself, that impressed me very, very much. Also his response to setbacks and mistakes, I think he does that very well.”

Frank reveals what he told Vicario after Fulham mistake

Thomas Frank also revealed that he spoke to Vicario after the match, touching on how the goalkeeper handled the situation mentally. He explained that their post-match chat focused on Vicario’s response rather than the mistake itself.

The Spurs boss added: “I spoke with him after the game and I said how are you, he said he was okay.

“Vic is a relatively good player to deal with on setbacks like that, others maybe it would have hit harder.

“If you are a goalkeeper, I do not think there is any goalkeeper in the world… You know you make mistakes and how you deal with that is a big part of how you become better.”

Thomas Frank sends fresh message to Tottenham fans about booing during games

Thomas Frank sends fresh message to Tottenham fans about booing during games - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has addressed the comment he made about Tottenham fans after the Fulham defeat, offering a clearer explanation of what he meant.

Tottenham Hotspur’s dismal home record continued on Saturday night, when Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Fulham.

That was the Cottagers’ first win away from home, and to the frustration of Spurs fans, it came in north London, where Tottenham were second best for most of the game.

Individual mistakes did not help Spurs’ case, as Guglielmo Vicario gifted Fulham their second goal of the night after failing to boot the ball to row Z when he found himself in no man’s land, miles away from his own penalty box.

The performance on display by Tottenham left Spurs fans frustrated, with many booing Frank’s men during the match, a gesture Frank was not pleased with.

The Dane was quick to label Tottenham supporters who booed during the match as fake, while some Spurs fans hit back on social media, describing Frank as not a real Spurs manager.

The 52-year-old, speaking ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Newcastle United, has now attempted to offer more clarity on what he meant.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank introduced his thoughts by stressing that he understands why fans were annoyed and that their frustration is not something he dismisses, before going on to emphasise the atmosphere he expects during games.

He said, as relayed by Football.London: “I completely understand the frustration. If we do not win there will always be a frustration. We have not won much at home this season and also last so the frustration can grow. It is my job to do what we can to have calm.

“We are nothing without the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is nothing without the fans. My point was that during matches we need each other. Afterwards the booing can be fair. During, we need to make it a fortress and to do that we need to be together.”

Asked whether he regrets saying those who booed are not ‘true Tottenham fans’, Frank added: “I don’t know, and you can say, how do you define a true Spurs fan? I think all the fantastic fans we have believe they’re true Spurs fans. Some react in one way, some react in another, some are a little bit in between. No matter what, we need all of them.”

Thomas Frank must focus on what really matters at Spurs

Tottenham supporters will feel they have every right to do what they did, as they are the ones who pay money for pricey tickets.

The football on display under Thomas Frank has been nothing to cheer as Spurs are quite often outplayed in games, and fans cannot just sit and wait for the game to end before voicing their discontent.

The Tottenham boss needs to focus more on his team’s performance, as good displays will naturally get his fans on his side.

He also needs to quit trying to switch attention from what really matters, and that is Spurs’ poor performances in recent weeks.

Description

Thomas Frank has now provided an injury update on the fitness of his Tottenham Hotspur players ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur will not have to wait for too long before they kick a ball again following their dismal display at the weekend against Fulham, where they lost 2-1.

On Tuesday, they return to Premier League action, with a trip to Tyneside, where they take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, a side that has already beaten Tottenham this season, 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Thomas Frank cannot afford any more slip-ups as pressure is beginning to mount on him from his own fanbase, who have not been shy to boo him and his players.

Coming into this league fixture, Thomas Frank has been handed a boost, as Cristian Romero has served his suspension and is available for selection once more.

There were no injuries picked up against Fulham, leaving Tottenham’s injury situation pretty much the same heading into the midweek.

Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski and Kota Takai all remain sidelined, although there are claims that these players could return this December.

Yves Bissouma’s return date remains unknown, while James Maddison will not be featuring until next year.

What Thomas Frank’s poor start at Brentford could tell us about his Tottenham future - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank is the man responsible for taking Brentford to the Premier League, but like his time at Tottenham Hotspur, he did not get off to the best start.

The decision to appoint Frank was one with the ability to go either way. There were fears the Danish coach would be similar to Nuno Espirito Santo based on his track record, but there was also hope he could become a Mauricio Pochettino type figure at the club.

It certainly seemed like Frank would be more like the latter at first. Not necessarily due to his style of play, but rather his ability to bring balance to Tottenham Hotspur and get results in the Premier League.

However, a lot has changed since August and elements of the Spurs fanbase have already called for the removal of Frank after an abysmal run of matches. Despite this, there are some who believe the manager needs more time because history shows that great successes do not always start the way they finish.

Thomas Frank got off to a poor start at Brentford

Can Frank turn things around at Tottenham? Well based on the way he started out as the manager of Brentford, perhaps there is still hope for him yet.

Thomas Frank, who was formerly the assistant manager of Brentford, replaced Dean Smith as the London outfit’s boss. The Bees had suffered only two defeats in 12 Championship matches and sat seventh in the league table, but this soon changed.

Brentford were defeated a staggering eight times in Frank’s opening 10 matches, conceding 20 goals in the process. However, no hasty decision was made to offload the struggling coach and he delivered six wins and four draws in their next 10 matches.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham have also suffered eight defeats under Frank and have displayed problems at both ends of the pitch. Despite this, they have claimed eight victories, which is one more than Frank achieved in his opening 20 matches at Brentford. Of course, it is worth noting that he has now managed 21 games at Spurs if the UEFA Super Cup is counted.

Frank’s Brentford beginnings do not mirror his Tottenham results

Although Thomas Frank’s percentage of victories and defeats during his first 20 matches at Brentford and Spurs were very similar, the pattern of results are not the same.

Interestingly, all of Brentford’s opening seven losses under Frank were by a one-goal margin, which indicates that he had a clear plan which was not quite working. However, he eventually found a way to make his team tick, resulting in success further down the line.

In contrast, Frank made a largely positive start at Tottenham, yet has recently experienced a string of defeats, including a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal. While at Brentford it seemed he had a plan which took time to come to fruition, Frank looks lost at Spurs as he frantically deploys different systems, of which none seem to be working.

Perhaps Frank needs more time to show that he can get Tottenham back to winning ways, or maybe the role is simply beyond his capabilities.

Jamie O’Hara is at the end of his patience with one Tottenham star, ‘my head is gonna go’ - Spurs Web
Description

Jamie O’Hara has reacted angrily to what one Tottenham star did when he came off the bench against Fulham on Saturday.

The relationship between the Tottenham squad and the fan base is worsening, which is reportedly a big worry internally at Hotspur Way.

Some Spurs players have borne the brunt of the criticism since Tottenham’s defeat to Fulham on Saturday, not least Pedro Porro, who was angry at Lucas Bergvall for applauding the fans after the final whistle.

However, it was one moment that happened during the second half that drew the ire of one pundit.

Jamie O’Hara is angered by what Tottenham star Xavi Simons did

For the third game in a row, Xavi Simons was left out of the starting eleven by Frank, and he came into the game in the second half with the Lilywhites chasing the contest.

Although Tottenham improved in the second period after their turgid showing in the first-half, Xavi struggled to make much of an impact on the game.

O’Hara was particularly enraged at the fact that the Dutchman was trying fancy flicks, admitting that he could not see anymore of that without losing his head.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former Spurs midfielder wrote on social media: “If Xavi Simmons tries one more flick, my head’s gonna absolutely go.”

When asked why the 22-year-old has not started of late, Frank hinted that other attackers suit his game plan better than Xavi for specific matches.

While that was understandable against Arsenal and PSG, when Tottenham were not expected to have much of the ball, it would be concerning for the player that he also did not start the Fulham game.

If the attacking midfielder is not trusted for a home game against a mid-table side at a time when Spurs are struggling to break down teams, he must wonder if Frank does not rate him that highly.
