Ange Postecoglou could earn shock Premier League return after Tottenham and Forest sackings - Spurs Web
Description

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou may be in line to take over at one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

Many Spurs fans still have a lot of affection for Postecoglou after he ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought by guiding them to the Europa League title last season.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss’ return to the Premier League did not go the way he would have hoped.

Postecoglou lasted just 39 days at Nottingham Forest, with the 60-year-old leaving the City Ground without a single win in his eight games in charge.

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could replace Arne Slot at Liverpool

According to TEAMtalk, Arne Slot’s job at Liverpool is now under threat. Even though he is not on the brink of being sacked, the Dutchman is ‘on notice’ after the Red’s struggles this season.

Interestingly, the outlet reveals that Postecoglou is one of the names being considered by the Merseyside club to replace Slot.

Despite his struggles at Forest, the Australian is ‘admired massively’ by the Liverpool board, and he is seen as someone who would suit the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former Tottenham boss was never seen as a good fit at Forest, and his sacking by the Midlands club has not dampened Liverpool’s admiration of the 60-year-old.

The irony of Postecoglou replacing Slot will not be lost on Spurs

Tottenham fans will remember that Arne Slot was Tottenham’s top target to replace Antonio Conte in the summer of 2023.

Slot ultimately rejected Spurs’ approach, which he claimed was for family reasons, after which the Lilywhites turned to Postecoglou.

It would thus be very ironic if the Australian replaces the Dutchman at Anfield, although the chances of that happening appear slim at the moment.

Thomas Frank ‘likes everything about’ Tottenham forward despite lack of minutes

Thomas Frank ‘likes everything about’ Tottenham forward despite lack of minutes - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has made interesting comments about a Tottenham forward, who has fallen down the pecking order of late after being in the Dane’s starting eleven in the first few games of the season.

It is unclear if Frank himself knows his best Spurs team at the moment, given the way he has chopped and changed his side over the last few weeks.

Mohammed Kudus, who has been Tottenham’s best attacker this season, was left out of the starting eleven for the clash against PSG on Wednesday.

Wilson Odobert has shown some positive signs recently, while Randal Kolo Muani has been backed to hit a new level after netting his first two goals in a Tottenham shirt against his parent club on Sunday.

Thomas Frank says he is a big fan of Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson, who ended last season as Tottenham’s top scorer, has fallen down the pecking order since the Dane arrived through the door.

The Welshman was suspended for the clash against PSG, but has been struggling for minutes even otherwise. However, Frank has insisted that he remains a big fan of the 24-year-old’s attributes.

When asked how Johnson fits into his attack, Frank said (via Football.London): “I’m very aware that Brennan’s got some very good qualities. One of them is scoring goals, running in behind and arriving in the box. I really like everything about him. He also scored goals this year as well. Four, I think, in total. So I’m very aware of them.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“So it’s all about how you create that team, where we perform, how we get the best players in, and where do we play them. Is it Mo to the right? Is it Brennan?

“Who plays the 10? What kind of player do we play in a different position to make it click? And then we also need a little bit of depth, because we play every third or fourth day, to keep the freshness, the energy. So that’s a challenge.”

Johnson is a very useful squad option for Spurs

Johnson has had more than his fair share of critics since arriving at Tottenham, and it is understandable why he frustrates many people.

The former Nottingham Forest man tends to go hiding in games and perhaps does not use his pace enough to take defenders on.

Former Tottenham striker blasts Thomas Frank for his comments after PSG defeat

Former Tottenham striker blasts Thomas Frank for his comments after PSG defeat - Spurs Web
Description

Former Tottenham forward and talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has not taken kindly to what Thomas Frank said after watching his side fall to a 5-3 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Spurs went into the clash at Parc des Princes as massive underdogs, and many expected them to be blown away by PSG, particularly given what happened in the North London derby last Sunday.

However, instead, Tottenham Hotspur gave a decent account of themselves and kept throwing punches at the reigning European champions.

If not for a couple of sloppy moments, the Premier League side may have emerged from Paris with a point to show for their efforts.

In his post-match press conference on Wednesday, Frank praised the Tottenham players for the way they reacted after their thumping loss against Arsenal.

The 52-year-old took several positives from his side’s performance, including the bravery and aggression they showed.

However, this has not gone down well with Brazil, who questioned how the Dane can be so positive when his side conceded five goals.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brazil told talkSPORT (27 November, 8:55): “I have to be honest… I don’t know Thomas Frank, but the way he was saying, ‘Well, that was better,’ what were his words?”

McCoist butted in, saying: “He said it was an improvement after the weekend, and it was,” to which Brazil continued: “They showed a bit of character? It was 5-3! I’m not having it!”

“He seems like a lovely guy, and he’s trying to boost the boys, but in terms of tactics, they were almost non-existent.”

Frank got his tactics right against PSG

It is fair to question the mentality of a manager who takes too many positives from a defeat.

However, to say tactics were “non-existent” against PSG is wide of the mark, given that Tottenham deployed a 4-2-2-2 formation, which Frank used for the first time this season.

Tottenham poach Man City coach to fill Jermain Defoe’s old job at Hotspur Way - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of a new Under-18s coach, who arrives at the club with an impressive resume.

The Spurs academy has not been very successful in producing players for the first team over the last decade and a half.

In fact, statistically, Tottenham are among the worst in the Premier League for promoting academy products to the senior squad of late.

The supporters will be hoping that this will soon change, with top young talents like Mikey Moore and Luca Williams-Barnett coming through the ranks, and it appears that the club are investing in the academy.

Tottenham poach Man City academy coach

Tottenham have confirmed on their website that Jamie Carr has been appointed as the club’s new Under-18s coach, a role previously held by the likes of Jermain Defoe.

Carr will be supported in his role by current U18 assistant coaches Bradley Allen and Chris Riley, along with Head of Academy Coaching Joe Staunton.

The 34-year-old arrives at Hotspur Way after spending seven years with Man City’s academy, where he was in charge of their U16s and served as an assistant coach for their U18s.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Irishman began his coaching career at Reading’s academy and had a brief stint coaching youngsters in India before making the move to City in 2018.

Jamie Carr delighted ahead of Spurs challenge

The newcomer admitted that he is excited about taking charge of Tottenham’s U18s, given the kind of talent currently in the team.

Carr said in his first interview at the North London club: “I’m thrilled to be joining Spurs, a fantastic club with a rich history of developing young players.

“We have so much exciting young talent here and we’re in a great place already with the Under-18s, so I look forward to integrating with the team of staff and players and helping to continue the incredible work that’s taking place.

“Player development is something I’m very passionate about, so to have the chance to come here and work with the Under-18s, both individually and collectively, to help them on their footballing journeys is something that really excites me.”

Meanwhile, academy director Simon Davies is confident that Carr is the right fit for the club, given the experience he brings to the Hotspur Way academy setup.

Davies said about the appointment: “We’re delighted to have Jamie on board. He arrives with a wealth of coaching experience, which has included working around the Professional Development Phase at Manchester City, where he’s made a positive impact on the journeys of a number of elite players.

“He’s a fantastic coach and, crucially, a fantastic person, meaning he’s an excellent fit for our Academy. I look forward to seeing him integrate with our highly-skilled and dedicated team of staff and working for the benefit of our young players.”

Tottenham stance on signing Randal Kolo Muani permanently revealed after PSG brace

Tottenham stance on signing Randal Kolo Muani permanently revealed after PSG brace - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans have finally seen Randal Kolo Muani come to life in a Lilywhite shirt, and with his loan running its course this season, talk around a permanent deal is already gathering pace behind the scenes.

Randal Kolo Muani finally announced himself to Tottenham Hotspur supporters after scoring a brace and grabbing an assist in Spurs’ 5-3 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

It took some time for the forward to find his feet, as he failed to find the back of the net in his opening nine games, although he assisted in that period.

Thomas Frank will now be hoping that this sparks a run of consistent goal-scoring form for Kolo Muani, who will be eager to become the main man for Spurs and rival Dominic Solanke when he is fit.

Tottenham stance on Kolo Muani permanent deal

Tottenham had to wait until deadline day before landing Kolo Muani on loan for the season, and a decision will have to be made on whether to sign him permanently or to let him return to his parent club, Paris Saint-Germain.

TEAMtalk insider Dean Jones believes that Tottenham will be open to signing Kolo Muani permanently next summer, although they will have to negotiate a deal as his loan does not include an option to buy.

Before delivering his full comments, Jones made it clear that Spurs have always rated his potential and are now seeing signs of the player they expected.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Tottenham were so happy to sign Kolo Muani, and now we are starting to see his true qualities,” Jones exclusively told TEAMtalk.

“They always felt that when he was back to his usual sharp self, they will have one of the best goal scorers in the league, and his finishing in Paris this week was a sign of that.

“They think there is so much more to come from him, and there is still every chance that this could turn out to be a longer-term signing.

“He is looking for somewhere to thrive and feel happy, and Spurs need someone they can rely on for goals. This loan spell suited everyone, but I know that Spurs do have an eye on trying to make it permanent if it works out.

“If he stays fit and is in form, then Spurs will not have to sign a striker in January and can focus on a wide attacker, as initially planned. With Solanke and Kolo Muani as the main strikers, they could be in good shape – it is just knowing whether they are going to be out there frequently enough.

“If Kolo Muani is a success, then it really helps Spurs out, not just for this season, but maybe beyond that too.”

The challenges Tottenham will face trying to sign Kolo Muani permanently

Indeed, Spurs’ signing of Kolo Muani is proof that the club believes in his potential and his ability to be a success in England, given his profile and the attributes he brings to the forward line.

However, it will be far from straightforward to land him permanently, as no option to buy was included in his loan deal, and that automatically puts Paris Saint-Germain in a position of strength.

As such, if Spurs are to sign the Frenchman, they will have to negotiate with PSG, who are in a strong position to demand a steep fee, given that his contract expires in 2028.

Tottenham could also have to ward off competition from teams if the 26-year-old finds his feet in England this season and is on the market in the summer window.

Paul Merson makes big Tottenham score prediction, ‘even if they beat Fulham 16-0’

Paul Merson makes big Tottenham score prediction, ‘even if they beat Fulham 16-0’ - Spurs Web
Description

Paul Merson has explained why Tottenham Hotspur are struggling as he makes his prediction for their upcoming Premier League clash against Fulham.

The Opta Supercomputer has predicted a Tottenham victory this weekend, but the club’s supporters might not be feeling too confident based on recent performances.

Tottenham Hotspur returned from the international break only to deliver an abysmal display against Arsenal, losing by a three-goal margin.

Spurs will be more encouraged by their midweek fixture against PSG, as they managed to create some chances and score three goals. However, Thomas Frank’s side defended poorly once again and conceded five times.

Paul Merson predicts Tottenham to draw with Fulham

There has been plenty of talk about Frank’s playing style, but ex-Arsenal forward Merson believes this to be irrelevant. This is because no matter how Spurs opt to play, victory is never the end result.

Tottenham sat back on Sunday and were deservedly thrashed, but taking a more attacking approach in the Champions League resulted in failure too.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham are a nightmare to predict! I thought they were blown away by Arsenal last weekend, it was just embarrassing. That was Tottenham’s biggest game of the season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I know Arsenal are the better team but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it hard for them. Fans would have wanted Tottenham players to run through brick walls in this game but that didn’t happen. Spurs made it a walk in the park for Arsenal and even if they beat Fulham 16-0, it won’t make up for that derby loss!

“Even against PSG in the Champions League, Tottenham took the lead twice and still lost 5-3. If they have a go at opponents, they score three goals and end up conceding five in return. If they hold back, they lose 4-1 like against Arsenal. Spurs are not able to find the right balance and that is a worrying thing.

“Tottenham have been poor at home and they are very panicky when they are expected to go and win a game of football. This is one such game against Fulham and I don’t expect them to win.

Merson’s prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Fulham

Spurs need a Premier League victory

Tottenham’s recent league form has seen them drop to ninth place in the Premier League table, but only two points separate them from Crystal Palace who sit in fifth.

Spurs are the same number of points away from 13th place Brentford, so whatever result they register this weekend could have a big impact on the league standings.

Archie Gray reveals why he plays so well with Lucas Bergvall as Tottenham fans call for more starts

Archie Gray reveals why he plays so well with Lucas Bergvall as Tottenham fans call for more starts - Spurs Web
Description

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were two of the standout Tottenham Hotspur players during the 5-3 defeat to PSG and the young Englishman has revealed why they play so well together.

It is not easy to feel positive about Tottenham Hotspur, with nine goals conceded and two defeats already suffered after the international break.

However, Spurs were much improved against PSG and fans were particularly impressed by Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, both of whom were unlucky to be on the losing team.

The teenage duo helped Tottenham to be braver and show attacking intent. They even combined on the left wing in the build up to the opening goal which was headed in by Richarlison.

Archie Gray shares the key element behind his relationship with Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham

Playing well together on the pitch can often stem from a positive relationship off the field and this is certainly the case with Gray and Bergvall.

According to Gray, the trust the pair have for each other is a key reason they thrive when played alongside each other.

He told Football London: “Me and Lucas are really close. Every time we’re on the pitch together, we just trust each other 100 per cent.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Even if there is pressure on us, we know we can play to each other and we can handle that pressure. We’re really close on the pitch and off the pitch as well.”

Thomas Frank must start Gray more often

Gray came close to registering his name on the scoresheet when he struck the woodwork against PSG and his overall play was a step in the right direction.

Starting he and Bergvall together worked well and so Thomas Frank should consider playing them as a pair in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham.

Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur were both disappointing on Wednesday, so it makes perfect sense to award both Gray and Bergvall with another start.

Chris Sutton makes 'obvious' score prediction for Tottenham vs Fulham in the Premier League - Spurs Web
Description

Chris Sutton has made his score prediction as Tottenham Hotspur host Fulham and he does not have high expectations for the match to deliver entertainment.

There is little time to rest for Tottenham Hotspur, who will play a third match in seven days when they take on Fulham this weekend.

Spurs showed signs of improvement in a high scoring Champions League clash against PSG, but the tie ultimately ended in yet another defeat.

Thomas Frank will be eyeing a return to winning ways, but his team’s record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season has been nothing short of disastrous.

Chris Sutton predicts Tottenham’s woes to continue

Chris Sutton has made his weekly Premier League predictions and he has some kind words for Spurs after their performance in Europe.

Despite this, the former Blakcburn Rovers striker does not see Tottenham taking three points on Saturday and it is because of their dreadful home form.

He told BBC Sport: “Tottenham played well in their defeat by Paris St-Germain on Wednesday and that makes me think they might have too much for Fulham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Marco Silva’s side really needed their win over Sunderland to avoid being dragged into the relegation scrap, and they are still not out of trouble.

“Fulham’s away record is pretty awful but then so is Tottenham’s home form, so the obvious thing to go for here is a draw.

“It’s only taken me four seasons of doing these predictions, but I am finally applying some logic.”

Sutton’s prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Fulham

Spurs did not enjoy their last Saturday night kick off

Tottenham will play Fulham at 8pm on Saturday and it is the first time they will take to the pitch at this time since a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.

That match was a low moment for Spurs as a stoppage time goal from Joao Palhinha was required to prevent the visitors from snatching all three points.

Frank will hope to avoid a similar scenario from taking place when Fulham come to North London, but a draw would actually be Tottenham’s best result for a while in fairness.

Thomas Frank makes an attacking promise to Tottenham fans ahead of Fulham clash

Description

Thomas Frank has made a clear attacking pledge to Tottenham supporters ahead of the Fulham clash, as the new Spurs boss looks to steady the ship and deliver a performance that reflects the demands of the fanbase.

Thomas Frank is learning quickly what it means to manage a Big Six club in his short stint at Tottenham Hotspur so far.

In a club of Tottenham’s stature, it is not only about the results, but the style of play matters hugely to supporters who want to see their team dominate football games.

Frank has struggled to do that in several matches this season, but with a London derby with Fulham this weekend, the Tottenham boss has now made an attacking promise to Spurs fans.

Thomas Frank makes attacking pledge to Tottenham fans before Fulham match

Tottenham are just three points away from 14th in the Premier League table, and a defeat to Fulham will see them drop to the bottom half.

Frank’s side is at home, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been anything but a fortress for Spurs in the league, but they will have to secure a second win on their own turf if they are to come away with all three points.

Speaking to the official Tottenham channel, Frank introduced his thoughts by stressing that the task ahead requires Tottenham to be more proactive on the ball while also acknowledging Fulham’s performances this season before detailing what he expects from his team.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said: “We are facing a completely different game on Saturday, a game where we hopefully will be more on the ball and need to open Fulham up.

“I think actually Fulham, maybe they do not have the points they want, I have watched a lot of their games, they have performed well, they have been quite unlucky with some results but it will be a different challenge.

“But I am pleased with the performance response we got from the players against PSG, we did the aggression in the high pressure, the forwardness, the intensity we played with should have earned us a point or points, but a bit of randomness, some set-pieces, game management and we did not and that is the bit we need to learn from.

“Every decision I take is to do everything I can to win the next game. I am very aware that we need to win the day after tomorrow and the day after that and so on.”

Frank then touched on Tottenham’s home form and used the opportunity to issue a message to supporters, insisting that the team will look to set the tone from the opening stages while recognising that Fulham will not make things easy.

He continued: “Of course, I promise you we will do everything we can to deliver and we will do everything we can to come flying out, be positive, intense, energetic, forward, but I am also pretty sure that Fulham will do everything they can to avoid that. It is our job to perform well and if we do that, we have every chance to win the game.”

Spurs home form and Frank’s belief in improvement

Frank also expanded on the home form concerns and made it clear that confidence on the pitch is vital, while stressing that the aim of turning the stadium into a fortress has not changed, even if the performances have not always aligned with that ambition.

He added: “Any player, any team, needs to do what they can to play with confidence. The best performances you are intuitive, you do not think about it – that is key.

“I want our stadium to be a fortress, that has not changed. We need to perform, we need the fans with us, both together. We want for it to feel like it is impossible to beat us and that is what we are working towards.”

The Tottenham boss also discussed the contrasting demands of different types of matches, and he highlighted the need for Tottenham to develop further in possession play to break down stubborn defensive setups in the Premier League.

He said: “That is two different things. It is different to press and have spaces to run into. Then the other is opening up an opponent with 11 players behind the ball.

“It is difficult to break down a low block. We have a lot to develop and improve and on the journey we have to find solutions to create more chances and win more games.”

Thomas Frank reveals 10 small things that should lead to Tottenham improvements - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham are searching for calmer performances under Thomas Frank, and the manager has now listed a handful of subtle adjustments that could push his side in the right direction.

Tottenham Hotspur have been very inconsistent under Thomas Frank in recent months, with victories proving difficult to come by.

Spurs have managed just one win in their last five outings in all competitions, while in the Premier League, they have picked up four points from a possible fifteen in that same period.

There is a need for improvements, and changes must come quickly, given how tightly contested the league is, where three points currently separate ninth-placed Tottenham from fourteenth-placed Newcastle.

Thomas Frank on Tottenham pressure and finding stability

With performances shaky in recent weeks, Thomas Frank has been receiving flak from his own supporters, who booed him against Chelsea and during the league game against Manchester United.

A 4-1 thrashing by bitter rivals Arsenal did not help Frank, with sections of the Tottenham fanbase calling for his dismissal on social media.

Fulham are up next, and a victory is expected, but the Tottenham boss has now revealed what he does to keep his composure when the pressure builds.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to the official Tottenham channel, Frank explained that his approach revolves around relying on his experience and the structure around him, stressing how important it is for him to trust the staff and the players as he works to steady the team.

“Trust my experience, trust my staff, my players, the club, the leadership – that is key for us to progress as a structure.

“Just to keep doing that, keep believing, keep working, always one more conversation, one more video clip, one more meeting, one more training session, constantly try to improve bits, know where you want to go, try to improve the culture, the style of play every single day.

“That is the key. On those days where you perform badly you feel pain, you are angry, yesterday it was painful in a different way, more irritating, but a better feeling because we competed. I saw more of the character of the team I want to build. We just have to keep going.”

Spurs derby struggles under Thomas Frank

Frank’s record in derbies this season has seen him win just one, when his side faced a struggling West Ham United at the London Stadium, a league fixture Spurs won 3-0.

The other two derbies ended in defeats, with Chelsea outplaying Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while Arsenal dismantled Tottenham at the Emirates.

Speaking ahead of the Fulham clash, Frank acknowledged the significance of the upcoming match and spoke about his mindset ahead of it.

“I am very aware a top performance and a win will be very helpful. I go into every game believing we will win. I need to make sure we are well prepared, to pick the best possible team.”
