Description

Fabrizio Romano has revealed what his sources have told him about the possibility of Harry Kane returning to Tottenham next summer.

Reports from Germany have claimed over recent months that the Bayern hierarchy fears this will be Kane’s final season in Bavaria.

Several sources have claimed that Kane can leave Bayern for £57m next summer, due to a clause in his contract.

It is no secret that Tottenham added a first refusal clause when they sold Kane to Bayern, but it has also emerged that Spurs face competition from Barcelona and Chelsea for the England captain.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham want Harry Kane back

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed on his YouTube channel that Tottenham do have the priority option on their record goalcorer, and the North London club plan on activating that if the striker decides he wants to come back.

However, the journalist reveals that for the moment, the striker is not thinking about the possibility of a move away from Bayern.

Kane is instead said to be focused on winning the Champions League, which he believes the German side are a serious contender for this season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romano adds that we may have to wait until the end of the campaign to find out what the 32-year-old’s decision is on his future.

He said: “We started having links with a potential comeback of Harry Kane to Tottenham in 2026 after the World Cup. Thomas Frank says, ‘all the Spurs fans and me too, we would love to have Harry Kane back.’ A nice message, it starts to open the doors for a return of Harry Kane.”

“At the end, it’s Harry Kane who decides, but Tottenham have a priority option to sign him. So they will be the first ones to be offered the opportunity to sign Kane if he decides to leave Bayern.

“Kane is fully focused on Bayern. Kane wants to win important titles at Bayern. Kane is fully convinced, from what I’m told, that Bayern can compete for the Champions League this season in a very serious way.

“At the end of the season, we will see what happens. But Tottenham send their message that the doors are open.”

Thomas Frank has opened the door for Kane’s return to Spurs

When asked about the striker, Thomas Frank admitted that he would be happy to have Kane back at Tottenham, but added that the striker may want to remain at Bayern.

The Spurs head coach pleaded ignorance about Tottenham’s first refusal clause to buy Kane.

Description

Kevin Danso has spoken of his desire to win more trophies as Tottenham kick off their Carabao Cup campaign under Thomas Frank with a 3-0 win.

Every football club sets out to win silverware each season, and that is no different for Tottenham Hotspur this campaign.

Spurs were Europa League winners last season, and their attention will now be on adding to the trophy cabinet during this spell under new boss Thomas Frank.

With Tottenham starting their Carabao Cup journey with a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night, it presents Frank’s men with another realistic opportunity to compete for silverware.

Kevin Danso eyes trophies with Tottenham in Carabao Cup

Kevin Danso started his first game for Tottenham this season against Doncaster, and that trademark long throw was on show for all to see in the Carabao Cup as Frank rotated his squad.

The Austrian international spoke with the club’s official media team ahead of the match and opened up on his hunger to add more trophies during this campaign. In his words, once a player wins one trophy, the desire to experience that feeling again only grows stronger.

“We are a top club and we want to cement that by winning more trophies,” Danso told the official matchday programme. “This is another opportunity and we want to take it. As I said, once you win that first one, you just want more and to experience that feeling again.”

Tottenham 3-0 Doncaster, Carabao Cup Match Report as Spurs book a date with Newcastle - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the 4th round of the Carabao Cup after they beat League One side Doncaster Rovers 3-0 at home.

It was a dominant display by Tottenham, who scored two early goals in the first half before adding a third in the last minute of the game despite Doncaster themselves having their own moments at times in the second half.

Only Pedro Porro kept his place in Tottenham’s defence from the 2-2 draw against Brighton last weekend. It was still a strong starting XI named by Thomas Frank, much against the likes of what we assumed with many expecting him to play his B team.

First half: Spurs 2-0 Doncaster

It started bright for the home side as expected. Xavi Simons had an early pop that went over the bar, and Mathys Tel could not tap in after being squared by Brennan Johnson in what was a glorious chance to take the lead.

Not long after, Tottenham took the lead from a corner. Simons swung one in which Ian Lawlor failed to deal with, and after Doncaster could not clear, Joao Palhinha, who was filling in at centre half on the night, pulled off a brilliant overhead kick to put Spurs ahead.

Barely three minutes later, the lead was doubled. Wilson Odobert broke down the left and fired in a low cross that hit Jay McGrath and bounced into his own net.

Archie Gray, who many assumed would be used in defence, was instead Tottenham’s best midfielder on the night and almost got himself a goal when he forced a fine save from Lawlor.

MORE SPURS STORIES

At the other end, Antonin Kinsky, who had not been troubled until then, made the best save of the half when he tipped Bailey’s volley onto the post to keep Spurs two to the good at the break.

Second half: Tottenham 1-0 Doncaster

The trailing side must have heard a few words from their head coach at halftime because they started the second period much brighter, forcing a couple of corners early on.

Their left flank in particular gave Pedro Porro work to do as the Spurs captain had to step in with some key interceptions and tracking back. Doncaster also impressed with how they built from the back, moving the ball quickly from their own box into Spurs territory, though all of their build up play came to nothing in the end.

Their best chance came from a set piece just outside the Spurs’ box when Middleton’s powerful shot hit the side netting.

Spurs still carved out opportunities themselves, even if not many. Mathys Tel again missed the ball completely from a Brennan Johnson set-up, similar to his earlier chance, but from slightly further out.

Johnson, who was finally used on the right wing under Frank, was Tottenham’s most effective forward on the night. He later drove into the box and brilliantly set up Richarlison for what looked like a certain tap in, only for two sliding Doncaster defenders to prevent the Brazilian from reaching it.

With just over a hundred seconds left for stoppage time, 16-year-old Luca Williams Barnett came on for his senior debut. His first touches were understandably nervous, but he was involved in the build-up to Lucas Bergvall‘s disallowed goal due to Johnson being offside in the process.

Johnson and Bergvall eventually combined to give Spurs their third deep in stoppage time. Bergvall slipped a perfectly weighted through ball into Johnson’s path, and who has ever seen Johnson not finish from there?

Spurs Web man of the match: Brennan Johnson

What’s next for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup?

Another clean sheet and another professional display, though Tottenham should have scored more in the first half and looked a little disjointed after the break. Thomas Frank shared the same views, but there were still players who stood out, particularly Joao Palhinha, who for a moment did not look like he was playing in an unfamiliar position.

Archie Gray and Brennan Johnson also impressed, and both will give Frank something to think about when he picks his XI for the next game.

The win sets up a fourth round trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle in late October. Before then Tottenham head to Molineux to take on a winless Wolves side in the Premier League on Saturday.

Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham secured a 3-0 victory at home to Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night, ensuring they move into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from Tottenham 3-0 Doncaster Rovers:

Luca Williams-Barnett makes Tottenham debut and claims legacy number 900

Tottenham fans had been calling for one of their most in-form academy stars to be involved against Doncaster Rovers, and sixteen-year-old Luca Williams-Barnett got his big moment as he stepped off the bench for his boyhood club.

The tie must have gone as Frank planned, as the Dane looked to give game time to a few of his squad players, while resting his starters and having youngsters on the bench.

The teenager has been in sparkling form at the youth level, notching six goals and four assists in just six matches, and his inclusion on the bench against Doncaster was already a sign that Frank had been paying attention to his progress.

Williams-Barnett finally had his moment when he was introduced in the 87th minute, making his first-ever appearance for Tottenham Hotspur.

His debut means he becomes Tottenham’s 900th legacy number holder, a milestone that Spurs supporters will take note of as they hope to see him feature more in this competition and perhaps in future league fixtures. It was a special moment.

Palhinha covers at centre-back as Spurs depth is tested

Although the match itself proved straightforward, the teamsheet offered an early surprise, particularly in defence, as Joao Palhinha was asked to fill in at centre-back.

The Portuguese midfielder, who many might have expected to be rotated out alongside the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Mohammed Kudus, instead had to put in a shift in an unfamiliar role.

Not only did he start at the back, but he also played the full ninety minutes, which highlights just how stretched Tottenham currently are in that department.

Palhinha acquitted himself well and did the job required, but the fact that he was pressed into service at centre-back does point to concerns around depth, especially with Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin and Takai not fully fit. While it is not yet cause for panic, it remains an area Frank will need to monitor.

Pedro Porro wearing the armband hints at Tottenham leadership role

Thomas Frank has already confirmed Cristian Romero as his club captain following the departure of Heung-min Son, but the rest of the leadership group has yet to be made public.

Against Doncaster Rovers, however, Pedro Porro was handed the armband, offering a strong indication that he is among the players Frank sees as leaders within the squad moving forward.

It was particularly notable to see Porro wearing the armband ahead of senior figures like Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur, suggesting that the Spaniard has earned the manager’s trust and could play a significant role in the dressing room dynamic this season.

Archie Gray impresses in midfield role for Spurs

Another standout from the tie was Archie Gray, who looked right at home in midfield after a season in which he was often deployed in makeshift positions across the backline.

Used as a number eight, Gray showed composure in possession, a willingness to make underlapping runs, and a good understanding with Brennan Johnson, frequently threading passes into dangerous areas that Johnson could work with.

Frank has previously spoken about seeing Gray as a midfielder long term, and this was the clearest evidence yet that he can excel there when given the opportunity. It was an encouraging display that bodes well for his development.

Mathys Tel fails to take his Tottenham chance in the Carabao Cup

For Mathys Tel, the Doncaster game was another opportunity to stake a claim, particularly given the fierce competition in Tottenham’s attacking line, but he failed to make it count.

Played through the middle as a centre-forward, Tel found himself in promising positions, yet his finishing deserted him, with two air shots standing out as moments of real frustration.

One came in the opening minutes when Johnson delivered across goal, the other late in the second half from a cut-back, but both times he failed to connect properly.

Frank has given the Frenchman several starts this season, especially with him not in the Champions League squad, but nights like this will not strengthen his case for a bigger role.

Tottenham Hotspur have found out who they will face in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The draw took place on Wednesday night, following the conclusion of the fixture between Port Vale and Arsenal.

Two former Tottenham players were involved in the draw with Jamie Redknapp and Michael Brown both responsible for drawing the teams out of the hat.

Tottenham will play Newcastle United in Carabao Cup fourth round

Tottenham have been drawn against Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, with the tie scheduled to be played away at St James’ Park.

Fixtures are set for the week starting Monday October 27, with most matches expected to be played on Tuesday, October 28 or Wednesday, October 29. Exact times will be confirmed after the draw.

Tottenham will face Everton away in the Premier League on the Sunday prior to the tie, and will welcome rivals Chelsea to North London just days after the cup match, which will certainly give Thomas Frank plenty of thought when it comes down to his team selection.

Description

The full-time whistle has blown between Tottenham Hotspur and Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup third round, and the player ratings are in.

Tottenham player ratings vs Doncaster Rovers

Antonin Kinsky – Despite Doncaster’s greater attacking intent after the restart, they rarely troubled him. The one clear effort on target came in the first half, which he saved well. 7.

Pedro Porro – Continued where he left off in the first half, sticking diligently to his defensive duties and blocking crosses to limit Doncaster’s threat 7.

Joao Palhinha – His acrobatic first-half finish stole the headlines, but he was just as commanding in his own box after the break, dealing calmly with Doncaster’s aerial deliveries. Had to play an unconventional role as a makeshift centre-back for the evening, but did so with great consistency. 8.

Kevin Danso – Faced more pressure in the second period and had to make several recovery runs. Rose to the challenge and capped a strong first start of the season with a clean sheet in this cup tie. 8.

Djed Spence – Asked to defend more as Doncaster pushed forward. Strong in his one-on-one duels and reliable down his flank. He featured for 75 minutes before Udogie replaced him. 7.

Archie Gray – Looked lively throughout and thrived in a more advanced role as an eight. Showed composure on the ball and real attacking promise, making several well-timed third-man runs into the box. A very good display from the youngster. 7.5.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrigo Bentancur – With Doncaster pushing wider in the second half, he covered plenty of ground, often drifting out to assist Spence defensively. A tireless shift in midfield. 8.

Xavi Simons – After a mixed first half, he was given an extra fifteen minutes but struggled to influence proceedings before being replaced by Bergvall. 6.

Wilson Odobert – Direct and positive throughout, his cross forced McGrath into an own goal. Withdrawn after the hour for Richarlison. 7.

Mathys Tel – Shifted out to the left after Richarlison’s introduction. Still failed to make an impact in front of the goal and again could not connect with a Johnson cross. 6.

Brennan Johnson – Lively in the early stages before fading as the tie wore on. Still produced a few bursts in behind after the break and delivered two dangerous crosses that Tel and Richarlison both failed to finish. The Welshman eventually got his reward, rounding off the win with Spurs’ third goal. 8.5.

Substitutes

Lucas Bergvall – Came on for Simons and slotted into the number ten role. Almost had an opening after a fine ball from Gray, but could not make the connection he wanted. Worked tirelessly right to the final whistle and capped his cameo by providing the assist for Tottenham’s third. 7.5.

Richarlison – Replaced Odobert and went straight into the centre-forward role. Had a decent chance to make it three after Johnson whipped in another dangerous cross, but failed to get a clean strike away. 6.

Destiny Udogie – Came on for Spence in the final fifteen minutes of this cup tie. N/A

We’ve rated every Tottenham player from 1 to 10 based on their first-half performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Doncaster Rovers

Antonin Kinsky – The Czech international made his first start of the season for Tottenham, and his first real test did not arrive until late in the opening half, when he produced a fine save to deny Doncaster from a volley inside the box. 7.

Pedro Porro – Doncaster started brightly in the opening forty-five minutes and created a few half-chances, but Porro produced an important block to prevent a shot on target. 8.

Joao Palhinha – Partnering Danso at the back, but his standout moment was a fine acrobatic finish inside the box after reacting sharply to a loose ball from a Tottenham corner. His second goal for the club. 8.

Kevin Danso – A first start for the Austrian, who will be pleased to have helped keep a clean sheet in the first half. In the absence of Bergvall, he has offered an attacking threat from long throws. 7.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Djed Spence – Given a more conservative role on the night and had little to do offensively. Doncaster has not troubled him much down his flank. 7.

Archie Gray – Deployed in his preferred midfield role rather than at centre-back. He has kept things tidy in possession and has not shied away from driving into the box, often linking up well with Johnson. Tested the Doncaster goalkeeper around the half-hour mark with a strong effort inside the area. 7.5.

Rodrigo Bentancur – A composed and professional display in midfield. Kept Tottenham ticking with his passing, occasionally dropping deeper to aid the build-up and open lanes for the centre-backs. He had a good chance from a corner but headed wide. 7.5.

Xavi Simons – Started the match brightly and saw plenty of the ball early on. His influence faded slightly, though he remained a threat with his set-piece deliveries. 7.

Wilson Odobert – Back-to-back starts for the Frenchman, and he claimed an assist, albeit via an own goal. Direct and willing to take on his man, which ultimately forced Spurs’ second 7.

Mathys Tel – The Frenchman spurned a good chance to give Tottenham an early lead after Brennan Johnson fizzed in a dangerous cross across the goal. Failed to anticipate, and the chance went begging. 6.

The League One side started the game well with two decent chances to open the deadlock and it proved to be costly in the fourteenth minute.

Tottenham are ready to pay £35m for Spain international midfielder - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have identified an extremely consistent La Liga midfielder as the ideal fit for their side, and they are ready to make a move in January.

Tottenham’s midfield depth has come to the fore at the start of the season, but the Lilywhites are currently short of options in the attacking midfield role.

While Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall have been used in the position, Xavi Simons is the only natural number ten available for Thomas Frank at the moment.

That is due to the injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, who are still a long way away from returning, and it has now emerged that Frank wants to add more creativity to his squad in the winter.

Tottenham ready to make a move for Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez

Fichajes have now claimed that Spurs have set their sights on Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Brais Mendez, who has emerged as one of the most consistent players in his position across La Liga.

His performances for club and country have allegedly caught the attention of the North London club, who see the 28-year-old as someone who would significantly improve their squad.

Mendez’s ability to move between the lines, provide goals and assists has attracted Tottenham, who are showing a ‘strong interest’ in the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is asserted that Spurs are ready to pay €40m (£35m) for the Spain international, while some sources believe that a deal can be clinched for just €30m (£26.1m).

What do Real Sociedad feel about Tottenham’s interest in Brais Mendez?

Fichajes say that Mendez is one of the Sociedad’s most important players and the club are of the belief that losing him would be a serious setback to their aspirations of European qualification.

However, given the high figure that Tottenham are potentially willing to pay, the La Liga side are expected to listen to offers for their key man in January.
