Description

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has praised one Tottenham star for his special performance against Leeds in the face of adversity this season.

Tottenham Hotspur became the first side to leave Elland Road with all three points this season after a gritty 2-1 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

It was never going to be a straightforward task for the Lilywhites, who had to dig deep to overcome a spirited Leeds side that managed to pull one back shortly after Mathys Tel’s opener.

Tel’s strike was his first of the campaign, a well-taken effort from the young Frenchman that found its way past Karl Darlow via a deflection.

Thomas Frank praises Tottenham forward Mathys Tel

It was undoubtedly a big moment for Mathys Tel, who has endured a testing start to the season and needed something to lift his confidence.

The French international was omitted from Frank’s Champions League squad earlier in the campaign and also suffered the disappointment of missing a penalty in the Super Cup final shootout, moments that would have tested the resolve of any young player.

Speaking after the win, Frank revealed his admiration for Tel’s attitude and commitment, while also praising the coaching staff for helping the forward stay focused.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In his words, as quoted by football.london, the Tottenham manager said: “So, so almost emotional about him. So happy for him. I think the character he has shown from a young man just really impressed me from day one.

“But of course after a setback, not coming in the Champions League squad, not being an established player. Maybe playing a good position where I really can see him play and I think he is taking steps. Also been picked a little bit for the left. So just keep training well, which he does. He trains well every day.

Stay at home, when we went to Bodo the whole team, trained well. Just ready today. And also I think a big praise to Cameron [Campbell] and Justin [Cochrane] to work with Mathys.

“And the way we worked with him from a fine game against West Ham as a striker to a better game against Doncaster, where he arrives more in the right areas.

I know he could have scored two goals but as I say he arrives there, because we trained and we showed clips. To the next level today, where I think he worked hard, he scored a good goal.

“I know there was a little deflection, but the connection was good. He has a header, other good situations. So very, very pleased.”

Mathys Tel can use Tottenham goal as a springboard

It certainly feels like a turning point for Mathys Tel, who will now hope that his Tottenham career gathers momentum following this goal.

The winger had already stated earlier in the season, after being left out of the Champions League squad, that he was determined to prove himself through hard work and consistency on the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has praised Xavi Simons after handing the young Dutchman his first Premier League start as a number ten in the 2-1 win over Leeds United.

Tottenham Hotspur were not in the best of form coming into their recent Premier League fixture against Leeds United, having drawn their previous two league games.

In those matches, Tottenham had shown determination and grit to claw back points after falling behind, but questions lingered over their creativity in the final third, with many feeling the team lacked the spark needed to unlock deep defensive blocks.

Against Leeds, Frank opted to tweak his approach, introducing Xavi Simons into the starting eleven for the first time in the league as the number, in a bid to add more invention and fluidity to the attack.

Thomas Frank reacts to Xavi Simons performance for Tottenham

Tottenham eventually came away with a well-earned 2-1 win, courtesy of goals from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, who both found themselves on the scoresheet after a lively attacking display from Frank’s side.

Speaking after the game, Thomas Frank was asked by football.london whether he felt the attacking unit was beginning to gel, particularly with Simons operating behind the front three.

The Danish manager admitted there were encouraging signs and took the opportunity to praise Simons for his performance, describing it as his best showing yet for the club.

He said: “I think it looked promising today at times. I liked Xavi as a ten. I think that was his best game for us. There is still more to come, but I think he had some really good actions in there. Mo again getting his goal, which I am pleased with. It was about time he scored that goal. But no, I am so pleased for him. So you just see he looked a little bit more fluid.”

Xavi Simons showing early promise in new Tottenham role

Although Xavi Simons did not register a goal or assist on the day, his influence on the game was evident through his intelligent movement and ability to connect play between the lines.

The Dutchman created two chances, completed two of his four attempted dribbles, and showed glimpses of the quality that made Tottenham move for his signature in the summer.

It was a performance that suggests he could become a valuable creative option in the middle if he continues to develop under Frank’s guidance.

While Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic has been impressing on the pitch during his loan spell in Hamburg, it has been reported in Germany that he is also taking some big steps off the pitch to aid his career.

Vuskovic has already broken defensive records since his move to Hamburg, showing why many consider him to be a generational talent.

The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back appears to have won over the HSV faithful and his new teammates very quickly.

In fact, Vuskovic’s Hamburg teammates have lavished praise on him and are in awe of the dominance he has shown in ground and aerial duals so far.

A report in BILD has now pointed out that the 18-year-old also has two years of schooling left to go, as he is studying for his Croatian high school diploma.

Interestingly, it is revealed that along with his school work, the Spurs centre-back is also currently in the process of learning Italian and German.

Vuskovic, who already speaks Croatian and English, is now looking to add two more languages to his repertoire to aid his career.

The teenager is thus taking many online courses in his spare time, along with having to compete in the Bundesliga, making his schedule extremely busy.

Vuskovic is taking things one game at a time

Vuskovic has confidently set his sights on becoming a first-team fixture at Tottenham in the future, but he has his feet on the ground right now.

Speaking to the local German media last week, Vuskovic insisted he is looking to improve and develop in each outing and training session, and is not focused on any overriding goal at the moment.

The centre-back was also asked in the same interview if he could stay at Hamburg beyond the end of this season, and he did not rule it out.

Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be at the front of the queue to land a Brazilian starlet, and the North London club have been told how much they would have to pay to strike a deal.

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that over the last few days, a number of outlets have talked up Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in an exciting 19-year-old winger.

It has been claimed that Tottenham’s scouts made a trip to South America last week to watch Vasco Da Gama winger Rayan, who has been setting the Brazilian top-flight alight this season.

The teenager is thought to have a release clause of €40m (£34.3m) in his contract, but it has emerged over recent days that Spurs could face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Brighton for Rayan’s signature.

How much would Tottenham have to pay to sign Rayan?

According to a report in Calciomercato.it, it is not just Chelsea, Spurs and Brighton who are interested in the Brazilian wonderkid, with Nottingham Forest also scouting him on multiple occasions this season.

The report says that there could be an auction for the teenager in January, with Spurs said to be ahead of Forest in the race for Rayan’s signature.

It is claimed that the Lilywhites may have to pay around €20m-€30m (£17.4m-£26.1m) to convince Vasco to sell their starlet.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that AC Milan are also fans of the young winger, but they are not in a position to meet the Brazilian club’s asking price.

Tottenham have already taken big steps in Rayan pursuit

Calciomercato.it say that the Lilywhites have already spoken to the teenager’s representatives over a January switch to N17.

A couple of days ago, reports from Brazil claimed that Tottenham have done groundwork on securing a work permit for Rayan ahead of a potential January transfer.

The same report explained that Spurs’ efforts to acquire a work permit for the attacker could be aided, as he is soon expected to be called up to the Brazilian national side, which would make the process easier.

Description

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has claimed an ex-Tottenham Hotspur player is the toughest opponent he has faced.

Tottenham Hotspur have had some great battles against Arsenal over the years, and one former Spurs player has a pretty good record against his old rivals.

Heung-min Son made 22 appearances against the Gunners during his time at Spurs, and he enjoyed plenty of success in front of goal. The former club captain scored nine goals and collected four assists in the North London derby.

However, there is another attacker who used to play for Spurs whom Arsenal defender Gabriel has named as the toughest opponent he has faced.

Tottenham legend Harry Kane is Gabriel’s toughest-ever opponent

Gabriel has revealed in a quickfire interview with Isabela Pagliari that Tottenham’s record goalscorer, Harry Kane, is the toughest opponent he has faced.

Son may have impressed in the derby, but Kane was on another level against the team he left as an academy player. The England captain has scored 15 goals against Arsenal in 21 appearances, which includes facing them with Bayern Munich in the 2023/24 Champions League.

The Brazilian centre-back also said playing Spurs was the most important match of his career. He scored the only goal during an Arsenal victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, and Spurs supporters will be hoping for some payback when the teams face off in November.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Will Harry Kane come back to Spurs in 2026?

Thomas Frank has already greenlighted Kane’s return to Tottenham and Kane’s transfer clause increased the likelihood of a Spurs move. However, Kane recently declared that Bayern was the best place to win trophies, while stating he was not looking to return to the Premier League.

Spurs are considering alternatives to Kane, which shows they are not convinced he will opt for a move back to North London. This would be a dream transfer for Tottenham, but with Kane scoring goals for fun at Bayern, he might be reluctant to leave Germany.

Mohammed Kudus reveals why he left West Ham behind to join Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Mohammed Kudus has opened up on why he chose to join Tottenham, with the Ghanaian winger revealing the key factor that convinced him to make the switch across London.

Tottenham Hotspur’s marquee signing of the summer was Mohammed Kudus, with the Ghana international completing a £55 million move, joining Tottenham from West Ham United.

The 25-year-old became only the sixth player in the last twenty years to make the rare switch across London, a transfer that raised eyebrows but has quickly looked like a masterstroke, as Kudus has wasted no time in establishing himself as a reliable outlet on the right flank.

He has already picked up three assists in the Premier League this season, just one shy of his entire tally from last term, showing clear signs of progress and settling seamlessly into life at Spurs.

Mohammed Kudus explains his Tottenham decision

Speaking to the media, Mohammed Kudus has now revealed why he decided Tottenham was the right club for his next career step. The Ghana international highlighted the importance of the project, and in particular, the manager’s influence on his choice.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Kudus said: “The main factor in any club you want to join is the project, how you see yourself developing in that project and with the manager.

“Looking at Thomas Frank’s work at Brentford with attackers, I can name so many, like Mbeumo, Toney, Damsgaard; his development of them was really massive.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“So I thought he would be the perfect guy to help me in my development, and how he wants his attackers to play, I think I have the qualities to play like that, and that is how I want to play. So yes, it just fit perfectly in my head.”

Kudus must now add goals to his game at Spurs

The 25-year-old has looked sharp since arriving, and his performances show that Thomas Frank already trusts him to deliver out wide, using his pace, dribbling, and creativity to stretch defences and bring others into play.

However, while the winger has made an early mark with assists, he is yet to open his goalscoring account for Tottenham, and that is an area Frank will want to see him develop over the coming months.

Description

A consortium of investors, who expressed an intention to buy Tottenham Hotspur last month, have now announced whether they plan to bid for the North London club.

Last month, Tottenham confirmed that they rejected two approaches to buy a stake in the club.

One of those was from PCP International Finance Limited, headed by former Newcastle United chief Amanda Staveley, and the other was a group of investors led by Firehawk Holdings Limited.

Both parties were required to announce before October 5 whether they intend to bid, and PCP had already confirmed a few weeks ago that they will not be launching an offer for Spurs.

Firehawk Holdings announces whether they will make a bid for Tottenham

Football.London have now revealed that the other party, Firehawk Holdings, has also announced that they will not be making a formal offer for the North London club.

According to the outlet, an announcement through the London Stock Exchange stated: “Further to the announcement made by the board of Tottenham Hotspur Limited on 7 September 2025, the consortium of investors led by Firehawk Holdings Limited confirms that it is not intending to make an offer for the club.”

The other interested party is a consortium, spearheaded by Brooklyn Earick, who are allegedly ready to spend a world-record fee to buy Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When will Brooklyn Earick’s consortium announce its plans for Spurs?

As most Spurs fans will be aware, Tottenham unequivocally rejected an informal expression of interest from Earick’s consortium and have maintained that the club is not for sale.

As per the UK Takeover Code, the consortium led by Earick has to announce whether they intend to make an offer for Tottenham by October 24.

We will thus know within the next few weeks if the interest shown by the American tech billionaire and his group of investors is concrete.

Description

Ange Postecoglou has made a surprising statement about Tottenham’s decision to sack him, revealing when he knew that he would be let go by the North London club.

Tottenham explained when they sacked Postecoglou that the club recorded just 78 points from his last 66 PL games under the Australian.

The club suggested that, despite the Europa League success, they had to reluctantly let the 60-year-old go, given how poor the results had been in the Premier League.

However, not everyone agreed, with many Tottenham fans feeling that Postecoglou had earned the right to build on his Europa League success.

Ange Postecoglou knew for a long time that his time at Tottenham was up

After being appointed as Nottingham Forest’s head coach, Postecoglou admitted that he expected to be sacked by Tottenham despite winning the Europa League final.

The new Forest coach has now elaborated further, revealing that he knew three or four months before his eventual sacking that his time at N17 was about to run out.

When asked about the pressure he’s under after a winless start at the City Ground, the former Spurs boss said (via Sky Sports): “I knew I was getting sacked at Spurs about three or four months before I did, it didn’t stop me winning something.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Daniel Levy’s Spurs legacy could depend on his final big decision

Sacking the Australian and appointing Thomas Frank proved to be Daniel Levy’s final big decision as the Spurs chairman.

Back in August, Levy admitted that it was not an easy decision to sack Postecoglou, and insisted that the 60-year-old was always going to be part of the club’s history for delivering the Europa League trophy.

Mohammed Kudus has reacted after scoring his first goal in a Tottenham shirt, which proved to be the match-winner for the Lilywhites at Elland Road.

Tottenham Hotspur delivered another impressive away performance in the Premier League and emerged as deserved 2-1 winners.

Strikes from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus in either half ensured that Tottenham put an end to their two-match winless streak in the Premier League.

It ensured that the Lilywhites go into the international break high on confidence, and Kudus has explained why it was a huge result for the club.

Mohammed Kudus reacts after scoring his first goal for Tottenham

Kudus had four assists to his name going into the game at Elland Road, and racked up his fifth in the first half when he laid on a through ball to Mathys Tel.

After Leeds had equalised, the Ghana international got on the scoresheet himself in the second period, with his deflected strike nestling into the bottom corner.

Speaking after the 2-1 win, Kudus said (via TNT Sports): “I’ve definitely been waiting [for my first Tottenham goal]. As an attacker, it boosts your confidence when you score.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I want to give my teammate [Mathys Tel] some credit. I am a big fan of how he trains and how he has kept on going. We now go to represent our country and come back with the same focus. This is a big step in the right direction.”

Kudus finally gets rewarded for his impressive performances

According to Whoscored’s metrics, Kudus has been the best-performing winger across the Premier League so far this season.

Kudus is up there among the best in Europe when it comes to successful dribbles this season, but the winger has perhaps not received the credit his performance deserves.

The 25-year-old has been an inspired signing for Tottenham, and this goal will perhaps help bring his performances to the limelight in the media.

Description

Sergio Reguilon left Tottenham Hotspur on a free at the start of the summer, but he may have finally found himself a new club.

Tottenham had an extremely busy summer, with seven new faces arriving at Hotspur Way during the transfer window and many leaving.

While the likes of Heung-min Son, Bryan Gil and Manor Solomon left in the later stages of the transfer window, a few also headed out of the door at the start of the summer.

Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon and Alfie Whiteman were released by Spurs at the end of last season, and one of them could soon end up in the MLS.

Sergio Reguilon is in talks over an MLS switch after Tottenham exit

Fabrizio Romano has now said that Reguilon is currently in talks with Inter Miami over a free transfer following the end of his contract with Tottenham.

The experienced left-back, who made a total of 73 appearances for Spurs over five years, is still looking for a new club and has reportedly had multiple proposals.

Romano reveals that the 28-year-old is now expected to accept the proposal from Inter Miami as he sees that as the best option on the table.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Premier League clubs were expected to make a move for Reguilon

A couple of weeks ago, journalist Pete O’Rourke suggested that a couple of Premier League clubs may be eyeing the free signing of Reguilion.

The journalist pointed out that a few clubs may need reinforcements at left-back and would have looked at the former Tottenham man as an option, given his vast experience at the highest level and his free agency.

However, Romano’s update suggests that Reguilion may prefer a move to Inter Miami, and one can understand why, as the Spaniard would want regular football under his belt after a few difficult years.
