Description

The Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy gave an assurance to Thomas Frank regarding what they will do in the time that is left before the transfer window slams shut.

While Spurs have made some smart acquisitions this summer, most Tottenham supporters want to see more signings arrive through the door before the end of the month.

There is no doubt that the Lilywhites would need some top-class additions if Thomas Frank is going to deliver on his promise of competing on all four fronts.

A new report has now shed light on what the Spurs top brass have communicated to Frank about potential new signings over the coming weeks.

Tottenham have given a transfer assurance to the head coach

Flashscore have now said that the Dane has been assured that the club are working to secure elite-level talent in the final weeks of the window.

The Lilywhites want to sign the kind of players who can push the side towards the top end of the Premier League and give them a chance to compete seriously in the Champions League.

That is why Spurs have settled on Savinho and Eberechi Eze as among their top targets as they look to make reinforcements to their attack in the wake of James Maddison’s injury and Heung-min Son’s departure.

This week will be pivotal for Savinho and Eberechi Eze deals

The report says that Tottenham believes that there is space for both the Man City and the Crystal Palace stars in their setup and are thus running the two pursuits in parallel.

Together, the two deals are expected to cost well in excess of £100m, but that figure is not thought to be beyond reach for the North London club.

Description

A report has shed light on what Savinho would have to do to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer after Manchester City rejected the Lilywhites’ opening offer.

It emerged on Tuesday morning that Spurs and Man City were negotiating a deal worth €50m (£43.2m) for Savinho.

However, that offer was not successful, with Fabrizio Romano later reporting that Tottenham’s bid had been turned down by Man City.

It was subsequently claimed by The Athletic that Man City told Tottenham that Savinho is not for sale, and Pep Guardiola’s men consider the matter to be closed.

Savinho would have to force a move to Tottenham

ESPN have now claimed that the Manchester club are reluctant to let the Brazilian go just a year after they signed him from Girona.

With City not wanting to lose the 21-year-old, it is alleged that the winger will have to push to leave for the transfer to happen.

The outlet points out that Pep Guardiola does not usually stand in the way of players who express a desire to pursue a new challenge.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report adds that if Savinho makes it clear that he wants to leave, City will demand a fee in excess of £50m for the Brazil international.

Will Savinho push for a move to Spurs?

A number of sources have claimed over the last 48 hours that Savinho is keen on completing a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte even claimed that Savinho has already said ‘yes’ to Spurs, with the winger keen on getting regular game time during the upcoming season.

It was explained that the player is of the opinion that he will have to play regularly in order to catch the eye of Seleco boss Carlo Ancelotti ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Thomas Frank drops transfer hint as Tottenham weigh up late summer moves - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has hinted at further summer business after the UEFA Super Cup defeat, with Tottenham Hotspur looking to bolster their squad even further before the transfer window closes.

In his most recent outing against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final, Thomas Frank gave Tottenham Hotspur fans a clear glimpse of what life under his management could entail.

In the clash, the Dane was unafraid to switch things up tactically, opting for a back three that allowed his full-backs to operate as wing-backs, with Pape Matar Sarr and Mohammed Kudus deployed as advanced midfielders.

Such tactical variations are nothing new for Frank, who has built a reputation for tailoring his setups to the strengths of his squad.

Thomas Frank wants new signings at Tottenham

Nevertheless, the match also highlighted the need for more players and quality depth, as Frank’s substitutions on the night failed to maintain the level of the initial eleven.

Spurs have been heavily linked with several attacking players this summer, and in the past few days, those links have gone into overdrive, with Frank’s squad looking thin in advanced areas.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Frank has hinted that Tottenham could strengthen their squad even further, stating the club is working hard in that regard.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said: “We would like to strengthen the squad. No doubt about that. We do work very hard to see if we can do that.

“In general, I am very happy with the squad but in any transfer window we try to see if we can make the squad stronger before the window closes.”

Tottenham’s attacking options under the spotlight

Injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski mean Tottenham currently lack recognised number tens going into the new campaign.

Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace has once again been mentioned as a Tottenham target, with the club eager to strengthen their creative options in midfield.

Spurs are also looking for more depth in the wide areas, with Manchester City winger Savinho having also emerged as a potential addition for the Lilywhites.

With the clock ticking down to deadline day, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will finalise any of these deals.

Five things we learned from Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to PSG – late heartbreak

Five things we learned from Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to PSG – late heartbreak - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur failed to hold onto their two-goal lead in the UEFA Super Cup, losing 4-3 on penalties in Thomas Frank’s first competitive game as managern of Spurs.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from Tottenham’s 3-4 penalty defeat against Paris Saint-Germain:

Thomas Frank’s poor game management proved costly

Of course, it is a bitter pill to swallow as a Spurs supporter, watching your side fluff their lines after managing to go 2-0 up in a cup final, only to lose the entire game.

However, it was still a valiant effort from Tottenham Hotspur, at least for seventy minutes of the UEFA Super Cup tie, with every player appearing to execute their role effectively and limit PSG’s efforts on goal.

For a moment, if you were a neutral tuning in, you might have thought Tottenham were the Champions League winners, such was the authority in Thomas Frank’s side.

However, sustaining that dominance proved difficult, particularly when crucial players were withdrawn. Palhinha’s influence in midfield was sorely missed after his substitution, as Archie Gray does not yet possess the presence and intelligence of the Portuguese midfielder, who had shielded the backline expertly.

Richarlison’s pressing, intensity and hold-up play were not matched by Dominic Solanke, who is still finding rhythm after injury. Mathys Tel, meanwhile, was largely a passenger in this tie, offering little in attack and eventually missing his spot-kick.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The contrast between Tel’s display and Mohammed Kudus’ relentless work in the opening seventy minutes was stark. In truth, the substitutions and Frank’s game management cost Tottenham the tie, and for a manager with limited experience in such high-stakes fixtures, this will serve as a valuable learning curve.

Tottenham need more quality signings

While Frank’s in-game decisions can be scrutinised, it is also clear he is working within the limitations of his current squad. If Tottenham wish to compete at the very top, squad depth of the highest quality is essential.

The substitutes must match the intensity and quality of the starting eleven, and that gulf was glaring in today’s match. PSG’s bench changed the course of the contest, while Spurs’ replacements struggled to match the standard.

The solution is straightforward – strengthen the squad. Eberechi Eze and Savinho are players who would undoubtedly raise Tottenham’s attacking threat, and had they been signed earlier, perhaps Spurs could have extended their advantage when they were on top in the first half.

Thomas Frank showed tactical versatility and an adaptable approach against PSG

Frank may have questions to answer regarding game management and the eventual defeat, but credit is due for his tactical setup, which was highly effective in the opening seventy minutes.

His use of a back three masked certain weaknesses and maximised the strengths of the players available. Deploying Kudus behind Richarlison and using Pape Matar Sarr in a more advanced role to press high up the pitch were particularly astute decisions.

This Spurs side bore little resemblance to the one that faced Bayern Munich recently, and that adaptability bodes well. A hallmark of a top manager is the ability to unsettle opponents while also playing to one’s own strengths, and Frank showed encouraging signs in this regard.

Cristian Romero put in a solid captain’s performance for Tottenham against PSG

Tottenham confirmed earlier in the day that Cristian Romero will captain the side for the 2025/26 season, and the Argentine delivered a performance befitting the armband.

While not flawless – one might suggest he could have urged more composure from his teammates after PSG pulled a goal back – Romero was otherwise solid, assured on the ball and unflinching in the challenge, always willing to stand up for his teammates.

It was a display that will inspire confidence in his leadership going forward.

Mathys Tel must learn from the heartbreak, but abuse is unacceptable

Mathys Tel has yet to complete a full year at Tottenham, joining initially on loan in January before making the move permanent this summer. Since arriving in N17, he has struggled to consistently show what he can offer.

Last night’s performance was sadly another underwhelming one, with the Frenchman offering little defensively or in attack. He could have helped Djed Spence track the runs of Achraf Hakimi or Ousmane Dembele, who combined effectively down PSG’s right to create their second goal.

To make matters worse, Tel missed from the spot in the shootout, failing to hit the target – not the first time he has fluffed a penalty in a Spurs shirt. Tottenham paid £30 million for him, but he has yet to justify that outlay. However, he is still young and the racial abuse he has suffered on social media is completely unacceptable.

With Son now out the door, hopefully the wide forward can push on to be staking a claim for that left wing spot.

Description

Heung-min Son has urged his former Tottenham Hotspur teammates to remain positive and focused, despite their UEFA Super Cup heartbreak at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham Hotspur began their 2025/26 campaign on Wednesday with a clash against UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Victory over the French champions would have secured Tottenham a second European trophy in just 12 weeks, following their Europa League success back in May.

However, the night ended in disappointment for the north London club, as they squandered a two-goal lead in normal time and were eventually beaten in a penalty shootout.

Tottenham suffered penalty heartbreak against PSG

Following Tottenham’s 4-3 loss on penalties, former captain Heung-min Son took to Instagram to share a message with his ex-teammates, encouraging them to move on from the setback.

The Korean forward expressed pride in their performance and insisted there was no need for disappointment, emphasising the long season ahead.

He posted on his Instagram story: “So proud of you team! good time will come very soon no time to be disappointed let’s be positive and move to next one big season ahead, still thinking of you Spurs family”.

Description

Tottenham were beaten 4-3 on penalties by PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final after a 2-2 draw in normal time, missing out on back-to-back European titles just three months after lifting the Europa League – and our player ratings are in.

Tottenham player ratings vs Paris Saint-Germain

Guglielmo Vicario – After a quiet opening forty-five minutes, Vicario was called into action a few times in the second half, and he was up to the task; however, a few late strikes from Kang-in and Ramos saw the Italian’s clean sheet wiped out. 6.

Pedro Porro – The Spaniard remained a constant threat for Tottenham, and this time, it was his dead-ball delivery that led to Tottenham’s second goal of the game. 7.

Cristian Romero – An impressive first half, where his passing and composure were outstanding, was followed by a well-taken goal from a set piece, after he was left unmarked at the back post. 8.

Micky Van de Ven – The Dutchman opened the scoring late in the first half, netting the first goal of the Thomas Frank era. In the second period, Van de Ven was brave and committed, putting his body on the line to make crucial blocks, even from offside chances, to prevent PSG from threatening. However, the centre-back in the penalty shoot-out failed to convert. 6.

Kevin Danso – The Austrian could have made it 3-0 after meeting Kudus’ well-floated delivery from a set piece in the second half, but his header found only the side-netting. 7.

Djed Spence – The Englishman kept Kvicha and Hakimi quiet on Tottenham’s left flank, using his pace and strength to great effect. However, he was slow to track Dembele’s overlapping run for PSG’s second. 6.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Joao Palhinha – A competitive debut to be proud of for the Portuguese international, who shielded the back four superbly and provided an attacking threat from set pieces. His parried shot directly led to Van de Ven’s opener. 8.

Rodrigo Bentancur – The Uruguayan, like the rest of his teammates, covered an immense amount of ground. He kept Tottenham ticking in midfield, showing composure when receiving the ball with his back to goal and helping his side maintain possession. 8.

Pape Matar Sarr – The Senegalese midfielder impressed throughout, pressing relentlessly and nicking possession in advanced areas. His energy and work rate unsettled the PSG back line all game. 8.

Mohammed Kudus – Known for his flair and dribbling, the Ghanaian delivered a complete performance in this tie. He drove at the PSG defence with purpose and was diligent in his pressing when possession was lost. 8.

Richarlison – The Brazilian carried his impressive first-half form into the second, drawing an early save from the PSG goalkeeper shortly after the restart. His hold-up play and link-up work as the focal point in attack were once again excellent. 7.

Substitutes

Archie Gray – Replaced debutant Joao Palhinha, who is still building full match fitness. Gray slotted into the holding midfield role, but could have done better with closing down Kang-in, who scored PSG’s only goal from range. 6.

Dominic Solanke – Introduced for Richarlison after missing a few pre-season matches prior to this Super Cup tie. It was a like-for-like switch, with Solanke operating as the number nine, although he did not have a clear chance to threaten PSG. 6.

Mathys Tel – Replaced Mohammed Kudus and slotted right in as the ten right behind Solanke for the final 10 minutes. Missed from the spot in the penalty shootout. N/A.

Description

The half-time whistle has blown between Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final, and the player ratings are in.

We’ve rated every single Tottenham player from 1-10 based on their performance from the first forty-five minutes in Udine.

Tottenham half-time player ratings vs PSG

Guglielmo Vicario – Vicario must be surprised he has not had to make a save so far this half. The Italian has kept things simple at the back, not hesitating to knock it long when pressed. His distribution could be sharper, as he has often gifted PSG possession with stray passes. Frank has given the Italian the task of lumping it into the box from set pieces deep in Spurs’ half, with one of his deliveries leading to the opening goal. 7.

Pedro Porro – A bright opening forty-five minutes from Porro, who, like Spence, is operating as a wing-back and picking his moments to bomb forward. He has been a great outlet out wide for Spurs, with his crossing adding another dimension to the attack. 7.

Cristian Romero – A captain’s performance so far from Romero. Calm and composed on the ball, he has continued to play forward passes under pressure from the PSG front line. 8.

Micky Van de Ven – Early on in the first half, the Dutchman showcased his pace with a positive driving run before slipping in a well-weighted pass to Spence in behind the PSG defence. He has also been spotted high up the pitch when Spurs press, often stepping beyond the halfway line. He eventually scored Tottenham’s opening goal after a well-worked set-piece. 9.

Kevin Danso – Tasked with marking Bradley Barcola in the first half, and has done well when dragged out wide. The Austrian looks a threat from set-pieces too, particularly with his long throws. 7.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Djed Spence – Handed a more conservative role on the left, offering width but playing as more of a defensive wing-back than an attacking one, which is understandable given the need to contain Kvicha. 7.

Joao Palhinha – A much-improved display from the Portuguese after a disappointing outing against Bayern. He has shielded the back four well, frequently nicking possession in midfield. He was heavily involved in the opening goal, with his initial shot getting parried away right into van de Ven’s path. 8.

Rodrigo Bentancur – Operating as the second pivot but willing to burst forward into the box. Early on in the first half, the midfielder pinched the ball in midfield and slipped it to Richarlison while overlapping, although the forward could not make the most of it. 7.

Pape Matar Sarr – Everywhere in this tie. The most advanced of the midfield three, Sarr has worked tirelessly to track back and press high when needed. He has done the dirty work and linked play effectively. 8.

Mohammed Kudus – Operating on the inside right just behind Richarlison, Kudus has had moments to run at the PSG back line, although the end product has been missing. Nevertheless, he has been Spurs’ creative spark, slipping in Richarlison for a big chance and threatening with his set-piece delivery. 7.

The stage is set for Tottenham Hotspur to take on UEFA Champions League winners and French champions Paris Saint-Germain in Udine, Italy.

The Europa League winners under new boss Thomas Frank will be aiming to cause an upset by defeating the Parisians, who were almost formidable throughout last season, winning every major trophy they took part in aside from the Club World Cup.

For Frank, this is a chance to make his mark ahead of what promises to be a gruelling 2025/26 campaign, with Tottenham competing on multiple fronts, including in the UEFA Champions League.

What is the Tottenham team vs Paris Saint-Germain?

The Tottenham manager has a few injury concerns to contend with, as his two attacking midfielders , Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison remain sidelined with long-term issues.

Yves Bissouma was also left out of Frank’s 22-man UEFA Super Cup squad for disciplinary reasons, while Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie made the cut despite carrying knocks.

Thomas Frank has now confirmed his official line-up to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup this evening, as he looks to secure his first piece of silverware in his managerial career and as Tottenham boss.

Newcastle accelerate efforts to beat Tottenham to attacking midfielder target - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur may miss out on yet another of their attacking midfield targets, with Newcastle United now stepping up their pursuit of the player.

It was reported that signing a number ten had become a priority for Thomas Frank following James Maddison’s ACL injury.

A whole host of attacking midfielders have been linked with a move to Spurs over recent weeks, but those targets are now being snapped up by other clubs.

According to reports, Tottenham have abandoned their pursuit of Harvey Elliott, who is in talks with RB Leipzig, while James McAtee grew tired of waiting for Spurs and decided to sign for Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham could miss out on Bilal El Khannouss after Newcastle step up interest

Spurs are now in danger of missing out on another of their midfield targets, according to a new update. It has been widely reported that Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss is on Tottenham’s radar.

However, The Telegraph now claim that Newcastle are now ready to push forward with the signing of El Khannouss, who is emerging as a ‘serious target’ for the Magpies.

The report reveals that the Moroccan international’s contract at the King Power Stadium contains a £30m clause which can be activated in the event of the Foxes’ relegation.

Tottenham appear to have settled on a top target

It cannot be a coincidence that just as Spurs cool their interest in the likes of Elliott, McAtee, and El Khannouss, heavy speculation has resurfaced linking Eberechi Eze with a move to Tottenham.

According to various sources, Eze is ready to join Spurs if they can strike a deal with Crystal Palace.
