Description

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a 16-year-old forward and are considering a creative deal, but they face competition from their Premier League rivals for the player.

Tottenham’s transfer strategy has changed this summer, with the club signing players with Premier League experience, as evidenced by the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha.

Spurs’ failed move for Morgan Gibbs-White is further proof that the Lilywhites are looking for players who are proven in the English top-flight.

However, that does not mean that Tottenham have abandoned their approach of signing talented young starlets, with Mathys Tel and Kota Takai also coming through the door this summer.

Tottenham want to sign Kevin Filling and send him on loan

The strategy of signing young gems has worked well for the Lilywhites, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Pape Sarr proving smart additions.

According to a report in Expressen (as relayed by Fotboll Transfers), Thomas Frank’s men are turning their attention to another talented Swede, AIK Fotboll starlet Kevin Filling.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is alleged that Spurs are now circling over the forward, but it is pointed out that the player will not be eligible to move to North London until he turns 18 in November 2026.

As a result, Tottenham are considering signing Filling and loaning him back to AIK this summer.

Spurs’ Premier League rivals also like Filling

However, a deal for the teenager may not be straightforward for Spurs to complete, as Man United have also taken notice of him.

The report says that the Red Devils are considering signing Filling and then loaning him out to INEOS-owned FC Lausanne-Sport, who play in the Swiss top flight.

Their plan is for the 16-year-old to continue developing in Switzerland until he is ready to make the move to Old Trafford.

Ben Davies reveals what Tottenham have been working on under Thomas Frank

Ben Davies reveals what Tottenham have been working on under Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Ben Davies has revealed what he thought when Tottenham Hotspur appointed Thomas Frank as their head coach and has shed light on what the Dane and the coaching staff have worked on in pre-season so far.

It is clear already from Tottenham Hotspur’s performances in pre-season that Frank has put his imprint on this Spurs side.

The Lilywhites have much better organised defensively than they were under Ange Postecoglou, with clean sheets evidently being a priority for the Dane.

The noises coming from the Tottenham dressing room indicate that Frank has managed to win over the Spurs players, but the proof will be in the pudding once the season starts.

Ben Davies reveals his reaction when Thomas Frank was appointed at Tottenham

Davies is no stranger to managerial changes at Tottenham, having played under Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou.

The Welshman admitted that he was happy when Frank was appointed, revealing that he always thought Brentford were set up very intelligently.

When asked if this summer feels different at Spurs, with a new manager arriving and with the club going into the campaign as Europa League champions, the defender told Football.London: “In one aspect yes, in other aspects no. It’s new faces, new environment and new ideas that are coming in. It’s always exciting when that does happen because, as I said, you learn new things.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Even when you’ve been around the game as long as I have, you see things from a different perspective. It’s always good to learn from the new guys coming in, especially Thomas, who had an amazing time at Brentford, and I think one of the things you saw from that team was how intelligent they were. How they properly fought against the odds at times to succeed. I’m looking forward to working and learning under him.”

When asked about needing to adapt to yet another new manager’s ideas, Ben Davies said: “It’s part and parcel of being a footballer in this day and age. You are going to have a lot of managers, and it’s just the transient nature of how the game has become. Having someone like Pochettino, like I did for five years, is not really happening at many clubs anymore.

“That’s not to say that it’s not strange when it happens, and as players, you feel partially responsible for that, but it’s something you have to get used to. With a new manager, it’s a chance to learn more and develop as a player.”

Davies reveals what Frank’s message has been this summer

Thomas Frank has said that he wants Tottenham to have more balance than they did last season, with the 51-year-old emphasising the need for the side to be good in all phases of the game.

Davies has now explained that the Danish coach has been focused on the small tactical details which Spurs can add to improve both defensively and offensively.

When asked about the ideas that Frank has brought to Tottenham, the Wales internaitonal responded: “When we all came in we had a sit down meeting and it was basically about what was expected this year and where he thinks we can improve as a team and where the low-hanging fruit is for us to be better in the league than last year.

“We have been working on that in pre-season, some different tactical aspects, a bit more structure in the team. I think hopefully we will see the results of that pretty quickly. The thing he said to us, which is more important than anything, is that we are in four big competitions this year, and we have proven we can be up there with anyone. We have to have a go in each and every one of them.

“Early doors, it is just about trying to get everyone to buy into the ideas. There has not been anything which is too in-depth so far. There are little nuggets you can pick up here and there. From working with these guys, you can see the value that they put on certain aspects of the game.

“How, as I mentioned before, there is low-hanging fruit where you can pick up goals which turn into wins which can turn into a lot of points come the end of the season for minimal effort if you are in the right headspace for it. Without going into too many details of what that is, I feel like I have picked up a few things.”

Description

Mohammed Kudus has already begun to look at home in North London, and now the Ghana international has revealed the teammate who played a key role in helping him settle in quickly at Tottenham.

So far this summer window, Tottenham Hotspur’s focus has shifted from signing young players with talent and potential to players who have experience at the top level.

One such signing is former West Ham United man Mohammed Kudus, who has played at the top level in Europe, having had impressive stints with both Ajax and West Ham United before sealing his move to Tottenham.

So far, Kudus has looked on par with the rest of his Spurs teammates, and that could be as a result of already having experience featuring in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

Kevin Danso helped Mohammed Kudus settle in at Tottenham

Of course, settling into a new club is never straightforward, and now Mohammed Kudus has shed light on the player who played a key role in helping him adapt to life at Tottenham.

Speaking in an interview with football.london, Kudus explained that although everyone in the dressing room has made an effort to help him integrate, it was Kevin Danso who made the transition easier due to their shared Ghanaian roots.

“Everybody has helped me a lot. The guys try to speak to me to get the connection on and off the pitch. So far, it has been smooth,” he explained. “Kevin [Danso] is a Ghanaian so we speak our local dialect (Twi,) so it has been easier to connect.

“We talk about everything. Football, life. He just tries to help me because he has been here before me.”

Kudus pays tribute to Heung-min Son after Spurs exit

Mohammed Kudus also paid tribute to captain Heung-min Son, who he will not get to play alongside for much longer, as the 33-year-old has called time on his 10-year spell at Tottenham to complete a move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles.

Kudus made it clear that he holds Son in the highest regard, speaking on the respect and admiration he has for the South Korean forward, whom he came up against during the World Cup.

“I have so much respect and admiration for him. We played against each other in the World Cup. I just love how he plays,” he said.

“He has done a lot for the club and I’m grateful to have come here and played with him. He has been a great example for us, from how he trains and carries himself, so big up to him.”

Tottenham hand George Abbott a higher loan after impressing in League Two - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s George Abbott has now completed a season-long loan move to a side that he impressed against in a pre-season friendly last month.

Tottenham have been very busy in loaning youngsters out over the last couple of weeks, with Mikey Moore joining Rangers and Ashley Phillips returning to Stoke City.

It has emerged over recent days that the Potters are also set to sign Jamie Donley, who had an outstanding spell with Leyton Orient in League One last season.

Just like Donley, Abbott will now get a chance to play at a higher level this season after impressing on loan at Notts County last term.

George Abbott joins Wycombe Wanderers on loan from Tottenham

Abbott was one of the standout performers in League Two last term, and the youngster also impressed in Tottenham’s pre-season clash against Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way last month.

Abbott only played against Wycombe due to Rodrygo Bentancur’s illness, and he was very tidy in that game. It looks like he impressed his opponents so much that they have decided to sign him.

It has now been confirmed that the 19-year-old will move to Adams Park Stadium on loan for the season, with the Spurs academy graduate now having an opportunity to prove himself at League One level.

Wycombe manager is delighted to land Abbott from Spurs

Wycombe boss Mike Dodds has revealed that the Tottenham youngster is a player they have followed for a long time.

He also suggested that Abbott had no shortage of suitors this summer and admitted that he is over the moon that the midfielder chose the Chairboys as his destination.

Dodds told Wycombe’s official website: “George is a really exciting player in the middle of the park and we’re delighted that he’s made the decision to come here over other clubs to continue his progress in his career.

“He had an excellent loan spell last season and is a player we’ve known about for a long time in youth football, so to bring him here is another really positive step forward in our recruitment this summer.”

Pedro Porro reveals what he told Joao Palhinha about Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Pedro Porro has shared what he told Joao Palhinha ahead of his move to Tottenham and has explained what the midfielder will add to this Spurs side.

Palhinha’s stats suggest that Spurs have signed one of the best ball-winners in the game, with the 30-year-old set to shore up Thomas Frank’s midfield.

His signing encapsulates the big shift in Tottenham’s transfer strategy, with the Lilywhites seeming to prioritise signing players with Premier League experience this summer.

The expectation at Spurs is that Palhinha will make an instant impact and that he will be a regular in the starting eleven this season.

Pedro Porro opens up on his conversation with Joao Palhinha

The new Tottenham signing played with Pedro Porro at Sporting Lisbon, and Palhinha has remarked that he is excited to win titles alongside Porro again.

The Spurs right-back has now revealed that the midfielder was one of his closest friends at Sporting and shared what the pair spoke about before the former Fulham man’s move to N17.

When asked about Palhinha’s arrival, Porro told Tottenham’s official website: “I’ve spoken with him already! He asked me everything about Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Things as well like where you live… Of course, Palhinha lived in London when he was at Fulham but that’s a long way away from our training ground. It may be London, but the traffic is crazy, so he asked me, I spoke with him, and he was relaxed.

“I spoke with him and told him that the club is amazing. You have everything here. The most important thing is that when you play well, it is incredible.

“Of course, I’m happy he’s coming. When you have a teammate, maybe three years ago… I’ve since played against him when he was at Bayern and against him when he was with Fulham. He’s a good guy. I like him.

“He’s also excited to come here. When I arrived at Sporting, Palhinha is the one person in my life whom I had the best relationship with in the dressing room. We’re good friends.

“For us, this signing is very, very good because he is a good person. That is the most important thing, that he is a good person. I think the people here will like him.”

Porro reveals what Palhinha will add to the Tottenham midfield

It has been widely reported that Thomas Frank saw Palhinha as a perfect fit for his system, with the Dane expecting the midfielder to add experience, quality, and intensity to the Tottenham midfield.

Porro has now said that the new Tottenham signing’s aggression is his best attribute, claiming that the 30-year-old will add a lot to the side when they are defending in their own half.

The Spaniard said about the Portugal international: “On the pitch, he is consistent, a hard-working person, a little bit aggressive. I like Palhinha because, to play in his position (central midfield), you need that aggression when the ball is in your half.

“And that is the best attribute of Palhinha – that aggression. I’ve seen it in training, and it’s similar in games. If there’s one person who likes aggression and intensity, it’s Palhinha – and that is good for us.”

Predicted Tottenham Hotspur XI to start against Bayern Munich and Harry Kane

Predicted Tottenham Hotspur XI to start against Bayern Munich and Harry Kane - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham prepare for life without Heung-min Son with a tough test against Bayern Munich, and all eyes will be on how Thomas Frank lines up his side in their final pre-season fixture. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Bayern on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur bid farewell to their club captain, Heung-min Son, in their final pre-season tour of Asia in South Korea against Newcastle United.

However, their friendly games continue as they are set to play the final match in Germany against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Telkom Cup.

It is sure to be a new-look Tottenham squad, one that will not feature Heung-min Son, who has been a part of Spurs for the last decade.

With the Bayern Munich clash coming six days before the UEFA Super Cup matchup against Paris Saint-Germain, we expect Frank to field a rather strong XI on Thursday, and here is our prediction.

Predicted Tottenham starting XI vs Bayern Munich

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: Kinsky was given a run-out last time against Newcastle United, with the Czech international featuring for ninety minutes, as Frank continues to share gametime between his two goalkeepers. With that in mind, we expect Vicario to make a return as number one.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: Porro is certainly one of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment, given Tottenham’s full-back issues. He should continue at right-back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: The Argentine featured for just forty-five minutes in the tie against Newcastle United and should be ready to go once more against the German champions.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: We have not seen much of Romero and van de Ven in Tottenham’s pre-season games, with the pair playing together just once. We expect that to change with Paris Saint-Germain looming next week.

Left-back – Djed Spence: Ben Davies struggled last time out against Newcastle United, which shows he is of the standard to compete at this level. We expect Spence to start here to build some more fitness before Tottenham’s first competitive game.

Pivot midfielder – Joao Palhinha: Palhinha joined Tottenham on Sunday and could very well be starting against his former club a few days later. Spurs need him to be ready at least before the Premier League season kicks off.

Pivot midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: It could be a pivot fielded with much-needed experience against Bayern Munich, as we expect Frank to turn to Bentancur as the second six, but give him a more advanced role.

Attacking midfielder – Lucas Bergvall: With James Maddison’s rather unfortunate injury setback last time out against Newcastle United, Thomas Frank will need to continue experimenting with makeshift ten options, and that could see Bergvall take up the number ten role.

Right winger – Mohammed Kudus: Brennan Johnson got the start against Newcastle United, and that could see Kudus return to the starting XI against Bayern Munich on Thursday, as both continue to stake a claim for who deserves a starting spot ahead of the season.

Striker – Mathys Tel: Dominic Solanke’s fitness remains uncertain, with Frank revealing he could be back for the clash against Newcastle United or Bayern Munich. He missed the game against the Magpies, which means he could feature here either off the bench. That should see Tel lead the line as he returns to take on his former side. Hopefully, he can grab a goal after his bad miss last game.

Thomas Frank admits he is surprised Bayern Munich agreed to loan Joao Palhinha to Tottenham

Thomas Frank admits he is surprised Bayern Munich agreed to loan Joao Palhinha to Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has admitted that he was surprised that Tottenham Hotspur were able to sign Joao Palhinha, just one year after his big-money switch to Bayern Munich, and the Dane has explained why the loan signing works perfectly for Spurs.

It was initially reported that Bayern Munich wanted a permanent sale of Palhinha rather than a temporary deal after Tottenham expressed their interest in the midfielder.

However, Spurs have successfully managed to secure the 30-year-old on a season-long loan deal, along with an option to buy for £26m, which means that there is little to no risk involved for the North Londoners.

Reports indicate that Tottenham expect Palhinha to be a regular in Frank’s starting line-up this season, and the Spurs head coach has now explained why he was pleasantly surprised with the deal.

Thomas Frank shocked at Tottenham’s Joao Palhinha steal

Bayern paid £47m to sign the midfielder from Fulham last summer, but he struggled for game time at the Allianz Arena last season, partly down to his injury woes.

Frank admits that he did not expect the Bundesliga club to make Palhinha available, and revealed that he is over the moon with the signing, as there was a dearth of top-class number sixes in the market this summer.

When asked if he was surprised that Bayern let the Portugal international go, Thomas Frank said (via Football.London): “Yeah, I was a bit surprised. Bayern went hard for him for two years, and for whatever reason, which I actually don’t care about because we can get him, it was an opportunity for us.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Sometimes everything goes a little bit in circles. Sometimes it is impossible to get a number nine. Sometimes it is impossible to get a number six. Sometimes it is impossible to get a right-back. At this moment in time, there are not many clear number sixes in the market, so we are quite lucky to get him.

“I think he is a top player. He impressed everyone in the Premier League in the two years he was with Fulham. He is a regular for Portugal. Whatever the reason [Bayern let him go], maybe it’s the coach, the culture, the club, or himself. Sometimes it is difficult to say. My concern is that he wanted to come, and we wanted him to come.”

Frank explains why a Palhinha loan move suits Tottenham perfectly

It has been claimed by Sky Sports that Tottenham opted for a loan deal for Palhinha to have more flexibility to spend funds elsewhere.

Frank has now confirmed this, admitting that it gives Spurs more ‘wiggle room’ next summer.

When asked if a loan deal suited all parties, the Tottenham boss said: “That was important for all of us. We need him and his profile, but let’s see how he settles in. The loan with an option always gives us the opportunity to go one step further. When we sign a player, no matter loan or permanent, it’s always for the long term. It just gives us a little bit more wriggling room in a year’s time.”

When Frank was asked if the loan deal also gives Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall another year to grow and develop into finished products, he responded: “Yes, that is a very good point. It is two big talents that I am really pleased are in the building, but it’s also clear they need to grow. Pape has shown that. It’s not about age.

“They are 19, he is 22. It’s not that. Some are ready when they are 19, some at 20, some at 22 or 23, but you can clearly see Pape is just a tiny bit ahead and is a big talent. We have been very pleased with him.”

Description

Tottenham are now racing against time to bring in a new attacking midfielder, following injury concerns for James Maddison and Heung-min Son’s confirmed departure.

Tottenham Hotspur have looked to bolster their squad this summer, with five new additions so far, as Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, Kota Takai and Kevin Danso have all put pen to paper and signed for the club.

However, despite these signings, Tottenham still appear thin in certain areas of their squad, particularly due to injuries, with full-back and attacking midfield being the most concerning positions at present.

James Maddison, having only just recovered from his last setback in May, has now found himself sidelined once more after re-injuring the same knee during Tottenham’s recent clash against Newcastle United.

Tottenham set to move quickly after James Maddison injury and Heung-min Son exit

Journalist Dean Jones, writing for Flashscore, has now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to accelerate their transfer plans this summer, having come to terms with James Maddison’s latest injury and the imminent departure of Heung-min Son.

The Korean international confirmed his exit from Tottenham last Saturday, before featuring in what appeared to be a farewell game in front of his hometown supporters in Korea on Sunday, against Newcastle United.

According to the report, Tottenham are now expected to push forward with urgency, as they aim to complete the signing of an attacking midfielder within the next week.

Spurs eye new number ten options amid Maddison and Kulusevski doubts

It is entirely understandable that Tottenham are prioritising the attacking midfield role, given that both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are expected to spend lengthy spells on the sidelines.

In the weeks since the breakdown of the Morgan Gibbs-White deal, the club have been linked with a host of new names in that area of the pitch.

Bilal El Khannous and Enzo Millot are among the creative midfielders being considered by Tottenham this summer, as they explore options for their preferred number ten signing.

Out wide, names such as Alejandro Garnacho and Jack Grealish have also surfaced, although it remains unclear whether Spurs intend to directly replace Heung-min Son in this window.

Description

Tottenham are not done yet in the transfer market, and they may be eyeing a statement signing at the back as reports link them with one of Europe’s top defenders.

Tottenham Hotspur have been bolstering their squad this summer with a fair few additions, including Kevin Danso, Mohammed Kudus, Kota Takai, Mathys Tel and Joao Palhinha.

However, it is understood the Lilywhites are not done yet in the summer window, with a full-back, a number ten, and an attacking midfielder reported to be on the club’s radar.

Tottenham’s depth in defence could do with extra bodies, particularly in the full-back area, as Ben Davies remains the club’s recognised left-back following Destiny Udogie’s injury.

Tottenham move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

Fichajes are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have begun to make moves on a deal to sign Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo this summer.

It is understood that the Uruguay international has fallen down the pecking order under Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, who now appears to favour youngster Pau Cubarsi as his first-choice centre-back alongside either Inigo Martinez or Andreas Christensen. At the same time, Jules Kounde is preferred at right-back.

Barcelona are said to be considering a sale for Araujo as they look to raise funds once again this summer, with their financial situation still precarious after what has been another busy window for the Catalan side.

Araujo could help fill a gaping hole in the Tottenham defence, as he is capable of filling in at right-back, having featured there 23 times in his career.

Tottenham supporters are buzzing with excitement after a standout youth prospect netted a sensational hat-trick in a pre-season clash.

Tottenham Hotspur’s U21 side managed an emphatic 5-2 win over Liga Portugal 2 outfit Portimonense on August 4, delivering a performance that caught the eye for more than just the scoreline.

It was a tie that saw a familiar name steal the spotlight as Luca Williams-Barnett fired in a clinical hat-trick to guide his side to victory.

Barnet, one of Tottenham’s most exciting academy talents, has been making waves at youth level and was particularly outstanding in last season’s Premier League U18 competition, where he registered 19 goals and nine assists in just 20 matches.

Tottenham fans call for Luca Williams-Barnett to be given a chance in the first team

With the quality this 16-year-old possesses, Spurs fans have every reason to be optimistic, and many have taken to social media to share their admiration for Williams-Barnett following his latest exploits.

One supporter wrote: “Next star rising before our eyes”, while another added: “What a talent. We need to look after this lad properly.”

Another comment read: “With the Maddison injury is it time to promote him?” and one more said: “He deserves a chance with the main squad in the Carabao and FA Cup.”

Further praise followed, with fans calling him a “special talent” while others declared: “Our No.10” and “He is coming along nicely!” Meanwhile, one asked: “Could he be our Max Dowman?”

Spurs prospect Williams-Barnett focused on Premier League breakthrough

Luca Williams-Barnett is undoubtedly a gifted footballer, one with lofty ambitions, and Tottenham fans are not wrong to compare him with Arsenal’s Dowman.

Based on statistics from last season, both players impressed, with the young Arsenal talent grabbing 21 goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances. Luca Barnet, on the other hand, grabbed 20 goals and 12 assists in seven fewer games than Dowman.

Williams-Barnett also made headlines last term when he scored a hat-trick in the U17 Premier League Cup final against Charlton Athletic, proving he is no stranger to delivering in big moments.

While he is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham’s senior team, Luca Williams-Barnett has made it clear that he intends to break into the Spurs first team eventually.

Speaking back in April about his future ambitions, he said: “I cannot wait to be in the Premier League, scoring goals for Tottenham and making fans happy.”

Of course, Tottenham fans will now need to show patience as Williams-Barnett continues his development within the academy, though all signs suggest he has the potential to become a serious player for the club in the coming years.
