Description

Tottenham fans will not have to wait much longer to hear directly from Thomas Frank, as his first press conference as Spurs manager has now been confirmed.

Having just been appointed as the new Tottenham Hotspur boss on 12 June, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, who delivered Spurs’ first trophy in close to two decades, Frank’s time has not been short of drama.

The Danish manager has since been shaping up his new squad this summer ahead of what is set to be a hectic season where Tottenham will be competing on multiple fronts, including the UEFA Champions League.

Mohammed Kudus has since been signed to bolster Tottenham’s attack, while Kota Takai and Mathys Tel count as the two other signings made under Frank.

Thomas Frank to hold first Tottenham press conference on Friday

It could very well have been four signings under the Dane by now, as Morgan Gibbs-White had a medical booked after his release clause was paid by Spurs, only for Nottingham Forest to take legal action against Tottenham.

As it stands, Spurs are having to be patient with the Gibbs-White situation. They are confident it will be resolved, and that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man will eventually become a Tottenham player.

Undoubtedly, Tottenham fans are eager to see a few of their new signings and the rest of the team take to the pitch for the first time under Thomas Frank.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That wait is almost over, as Spurs are now expected to play Reading on 19 July at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading, in what will be their first pre-season friendly clash.

It has now been revealed by football.london that Tottenham supporters will hear from Thomas Frank for the first time in his first press conference as Spurs boss, on Friday 18 July, a day before the Reading kickoff.

It seems certain that Frank will be asked about the Gibbs-White situation in his first Tottenham press conference.

Spurs summer schedule offers chance to build momentum

Following the Reading clash, Tottenham have four other pre-season friendlies scheduled, which will allow Frank ample time with his squad before the start of the new season.

Tottenham still have Luton Town, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich to face this summer, before their first competitive match against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup.

Of course, the new Spurs boss will be looking at the Super Cup final as a prime opportunity to set the tone for what he hopes will be a trophy-laden spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

Description

Morgan Gibbs-White could be forced into a fresh start at Tottenham as shirt number options dwindle amid a delayed £60m transfer from Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham Hotspur fans are eagerly waiting to see how the legal action Nottingham Forest submitted against Spurs holds up in the coming weeks.

Morgan Gibbs-White was expected to have become a Tottenham player after his £60 million release clause was met by Spurs and his medical was booked, just an hour after Mohammed Kudus’s £55 million switch from West Ham United to Tottenham was completed.

However, Gibbs-White’s move is currently delayed, and Spurs will be hoping it is nothing more than a temporary setback, as they look to complete what would be their fifth signing of the 2025 summer window.

Morgan Gibbs-White Tottenham shirt number options

Should Forest man’s move be completed, there are a host of numbers available for Morgan Gibbs-White to pick from ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old versatile midfielder currently wears the number 10 shirt at the City Ground, and should he finalise a move to Tottenham, he would not be able to continue in that shirt as James Maddison currently occupies it.

Gibbs-White also had shirt numbers 55, 24, 17 and 18 during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, while he wore number 11 and then inherited number 27 at Swansea City. Still, those numbers are currently all unavailable at Tottenham, except for number 55.

Spurs shirt numbers currently available for Morgan Gibbs-White

Of course, Djed Spence is Tottenham’s number 24, Cristian Romero holds number 17, Yang Min-hyeok wears number 18, Manor Solomon has number 27 and Mathys Tel is currently number 11.

These numbers would only become available if any of the players depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the new campaign begins.

Football.london now claim that Morgan Gibbs-White may have to take on a brand new shirt number if he is to join Tottenham. At the moment, numbers 2, 3, 5, 12, 16, 25, 26, 32, 34, 36, 38, 39, 41, 43, 46 and 49 are all available.

The number 26 is also available; however, it has since been virtually retired in all but name, as no player has taken it on since club legend Ledley King called time on his career back in 2012.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to lock horns with several of the biggest clubs in Europe in the Champions League next term after the identities of teams in Pot 1 have been finalised ahead of the draw.

The Lilywhites are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence, and with the competition now in a different format, they are guaranteed to face at least two huge teams in the league phase.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of six English sides to qualify for the tournament, alongside Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

The draw for the League Phase will only take place on Thursday, August 18, but Thomas Frank’s men already have some idea of the kind of sides they will be facing.

Tottenham will face two out of six European giants in the Champions League

The pots for the draw are decided based on UEFA coefficients, with the eight sides with the highest coefficients, plus the winner of last season’s competition, going into Pot One.

Tottenham have explained on their official website that, according to UEFA’s rules, teams from the same country will not face each other in the League Phase, and they also cannot face more than two opponents from the same association.

With three English sides in Pot One (Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea), Spurs are guaranteed to face two of the following six teams from Pot One: PSG, Real Madrid, FC Bayern, Internazionale, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That means that Tottenham could play PSG twice in a matter of months, with the two sides also set to lock horns in the UEFA Super Cup clash in Udine next month.

What Champions League pot are Spurs in?

Tottenham are set to go into Pot 3, but they could be put into Pot 2 instead if one or both Club Brugge or Benfica do not qualify for the league phase.

Pot 2 currently consists of Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Villarreal, Juventus and Eintracht Frankfurt, with Benfica, Club Brugge, Rangers and Shakhtar Donetsk potentially joining these teams if they qualify for the competition.

That means that there is the tantalising possibility of a North London derby in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Dane Scarlett or Will Lankshear, who should Tottenham keep for next season? - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to one of their academy graduates to be the club’s third-choice striker next season, but should the role go to Dane Scarlett or Will Lankshear?

Tottenham are interested in signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford, and he may compete with Dominic Solanke for the centre forward position.

Having a quality backup striker is important, but with a busy fixture list and unforeseen injuries, a third option is sometimes necessary too. This will be particularly true if Thomas Frank decides to play with two at the front.

Tottenham already have two readily available strikers in Dane Scarlett and Will Lankshear. Both players appeared and made their way onto the scoresheet for Spurs last season, but which one should remain at the club to add depth to the Tottenham first-team squad?

Dane Scarlett or Will Lankshear: Which striker is better for Tottenham Hotspur?

Scarlett has long been known as a player with heaps of potential. His record at U18 level was particularly impressive, as he averaged a goal per game. Jose Mourinho even handed the youngster his debut, as he wanted to be the first manager to pick him for a Premier League fixture, due to his potential.

After returning from a loan move in January, Scarlett showed his capabilities by bagging a goal and an assist in just 25 minutes against Elfsborg. He also managed to get an assist in the league, despite only playing for half an hour across three matches.

Lankshear also did well at youth level, scoring 25 goals in 36 appearances for Tottenham U21s. He has less experience representing the Spurs senior team, although he did score against Galatasaray in the Europa League. Unfortunately, he was sent off later in the game.

MORE SPURS STORIES

With neither player having spent much time in the first-team, deciding which would be better at Spurs is not straightforward. However, Scarlett did slightly more in the limited time he had on the pitch.

Scarlett has had more senior experience than Lankshear

Scarlett has already been on loan three times and his first spell away from Tottenham was three years ago. Lankshear, on the other hand, was only loaned out for the first time in January, where he made 11 appearances for West Brom.

A loan move would be more beneficial for Lankshear. He has very little experience of playing at a senior level, particularly for a 20-year-old. If he is able to make 30+ appearances next season in the EFL, that could go a long way in helping him take his game to the next level.

Whereas Scarlett has made more than 60 appearances on loan for Portsmouth, Ipswich Town and Oxford United. Now would be a good time to test him in the first-team and see if he has what it takes to make it at Tottenham. At 21 years old, loaning him out for another year just feels like prolonging the inevitable. He needs a chance in the Spurs need this season.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be amongst a host of clubs interested in a big-name Serie A striker, but Manchester United could steal a march on them.

Tottenham Hotspur’s ongoing search for a new centre-forward has seen several names emerge as potential options, and the list is growing rapidly.

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa is among those linked with Tottenham, as new boss Thomas Frank is reportedly keen on reuniting with the forward who hit 19 Premier League goals last season.

Another forward option being monitored by Spurs is Evan Guessand, although Tottenham face stiff competition from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, who have also shown interest in the Nice striker.

Tottenham eye Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic transfer

CaughtOffside are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs weighing up a summer move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The 25-year-old Serbian international scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 44 appearances last season, and has reportedly been made available for transfer by the Italian giants.

Spurs are keeping close tabs on developments, with Juventus open to selling the forward amid interest from several Premier League sides and clubs in the Middle East.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Vlahovic is entering the final year of his Juventus contract, which is set to expire next summer, and that could open the door for a cut-price transfer.

Manchester United explore swap deal involving Jadon Sancho

Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are also in the race for the striker, but Manchester United appear to be leading the chase, with a potential player swap deal on the table.

Reports suggest the Red Devils have opened talks with Juventus over including Jadon Sancho in the deal, a move that could work for all parties given Sancho’s availability and Juventus’ long-standing admiration for the winger.

Interest from Saudi Arabia remains, but the report adds that Vlahovic has rejected approaches from the Middle East for now, preferring to continue his career in Europe.

Tottenham will not give up on £32m starlet despite Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel signings

Tottenham will not give up on £32m starlet despite Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel signings - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham may have signed Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus this summer, but they still have high hopes for a player they signed back in 2024.

After a mixed summer window, Tottenham Hotspur have finally bolstered their attack with the signing of Mohammed Kudus for £55million from West Ham United.

The Ghana international is a versatile player capable of operating in a host of different positions, including on both wings, as a number ten, and even through the middle as a centre-forward.

It is expected that Kudus will provide competition on the right flank at Tottenham, given that he has featured predominantly on that side throughout his career, making 50 appearances there compared to just 19 on the left.

Tottenham still have high hopes for Wilson Odobert despite Kudus signing

With Kudus now in the Tottenham squad, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert are the ones most likely to feel the pressure, as competition for places is set to intensify.

Johnson had a mixed campaign last season, scoring 18 goals, including netting the only goal in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in Bilbao, Spain. However, elements of Johnson’s game were frustrating to watch at times, as pointed out by Jamie O’Hara.

Odobert, meanwhile, struggled for much of the previous season, hindered by injury setbacks, particularly a hamstring problem that sidelined him for three months. Yet the young Frenchman still managed to score three goals last term.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tom Barclay has now shed light on Tottenham’s stance regarding the winger, revealing that the club remain optimistic about his future and is not ready to move on from him, stating that Spurs have high hopes for Odobert.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Barclay said: “Wilson Odobert, who, along with Mathys Tel, has played pretty well by all accounts at the Under-21 Euros.

“He was someone who, barring that AZ Alkmaar home game where he scored his first couple of goals for Spurs, we did not really see the best of because of his hamstring injuries. But he is definitely someone that they are not in any way giving up on and have high hopes for.”

Spurs hopeful Wilson Odobert will bounce back under Thomas Frank

Regardless of his frustrating first season at Spurs, Wilson Odobert still earned a call-up to the France Under-21 side during the summer.

The 20-year-old winger was part of the French squad that made it to the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championship, where they were eventually knocked out by Germany.

He has not yet returned to training, but Dominic Solanke has jokingly sent Odobert a message, urging the youngster to come back to Hotspur Way.

Tottenham fans convinced Adam Wharton will transfer this summer after kit launch comment

Tottenham fans convinced Adam Wharton will transfer this summer after kit launch comment - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans believe Adam Wharton is already on his way out of Crystal Palace after a comment he made at the club’s kit launch left many scratching their heads and speculating wildly about his future.

While Tottenham’s focus in recent weeks has been on bolstering their attack, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs are still keeping tabs on potential midfield reinforcements, with a move expected once the Morgan Gibbs-White deal reaches its conclusion.

Several midfielders have been linked with a switch to north London this summer, including Douglas Luiz, who is reportedly keen on a move to Hotspur Way, and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace.

Although Thomas Frank has urged Tottenham to sign Wharton, viewing him as an ideal addition this window, a report from Alasdair Gold suggests that Tottenham are unlikely to splash the cash on the Crystal Palace holding midfielder.

Spurs supporters have made their stance on Wharton quite clear, with many on social media expressing a desire to see the Palace midfielder make the switch to N17.

That interest has now intensified following a brief but telling interaction between Wharton and Ollie Thomas on TikTok, which has been making the rounds on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When Thomas said, “looking forward to seeing you rocking this shirt this season”, in reference to Palace’s new kit, Wharton responded with a single word – “hopefully” – which Tottenham fans quickly picked up on as being anything but convincing.

One fan said it was “crazy” to hear the Crystal Palace midfielder say such a thing at a kit launch, commenting: “ ‘Hopefully’ at the kit launch is crazy.”

Another supporter pointed to Wharton’s body language, suggesting that the way he lowered his head and looked at the ground when saying “hopefully” betrayed a deeper reluctance. He remarked: “Body language was off when answering that, was it not? Why head down, look at the floor with the ‘hopefully’ response?”

A third fan took it a step further, summing it up bluntly: “Oh he is gone.”

Wharton price tag could put off Spurs despite midfield need

Wharton has built up a decent level of Premier League experience already, having featured regularly for Crystal Palace over the past season and a half, with more than 30 top-flight appearances under his belt.

However, it remains unlikely that Tottenham will sanction a move worth in excess of £100 million this summer, particularly after already spending £55 million on Mohammed Kudus and potentially committing a further £60 million to secure the services of Morgan Gibbs-White.

At just 21 years old, Wharton still has four years left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, placing Palace in a strong position when it comes to negotiations, as they are under no immediate pressure to sell.

Ledley King reveals heartbreaking reality of his post-retirement football at Tottenham

Ledley King reveals heartbreaking reality of his post-retirement football at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Ledley King admits that he was concerned about embarrassing himself when he featured for Tottenham Legends against Milan Glorie earlier this year, as he had hardly kicked a ball since his retirement.

King is revered at Spurs for being a one-club man, and many fans consider the former Tottenham captain to be the greatest centre-back the club has had in the Premier League era.

Despite not even being able to train during the latter part of his career due to his knee problems, he would be the best player on the pitch nearly every weekend.

Tottenham fans always had a feeling of safety when they saw King’s name on the teamsheet on a matchday, as the Englishman exuded calm to the backline and marshalled his fellow defenders impressively.

Ledley King has only managed to play twice since Tottenham retirement

The centre-back’s knee issues forced him into an early retirement, and understandably, he has hardly kicked a ball since hanging up his boots 13 years ago.

When he was asked to captain Tottenham in the Legends game against Milan Glorie in March, which Spurs won 6-2, King admits that he was nervous about embarrassing himself in front of a new generation of Spurs fans, who would have had high expectations of him.

When asked about featuring in the legends game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 44-year-old told OLGB: “In a different stadium. It was strange (playing in the legends game). I think I’ve played football twice in the 13 years since I’ve retired.

“So there were a few nerves, just mainly because I knew there were going to be some young kids who were watching, whose dads had probably told them that I was a good player back then and I’m not moving too well these days, so I had to prepare for it a little bit.

“It was great to be amongst old teammates back in the changing room, that banter. But I wanted to go on the pitch and not embarrass myself. I promised myself half an hour was my max. I didn’t want to get any injuries.

“It was a great occasion, as I say. To be back amongst old teammates was a special feeling and of course, to play in the stadium for the first time for me was brilliant.”

Ledley King is a big fan of two current Spurs stars

First, he was a one-club man, then he was a loyal Tottenham ambassador, then Jose Mourinho made him a first-team coach. Ledley King has well and truly done it all at Spurs.

Over his decades in North London, King has surely picked up an eye for talent, and he has been impressed with two current Tottenham stars over the past 12 months.

King says that Lucas Bergvall has the unique ability to lift the Spurs crowd: “One thing that probably doesn’t stand out is just how big Lucas is and how physical he is. For someone so young he knows how to get stuck in and he has great intensity in terms of his pressing.

“We speak about lifting crowds, he can do that with his pressing, his running, his enthusiasm to win the ball back at times. He can dribble, he can pass, I’ve been really impressed with him.”

King even thinks one Tottenham player could move further forward like Gareth Bale once did: “He looks like someone who could play further forward, in fact, that’s how good he looks going forward.”

Tottenham have a cash reserve that could almost pay for Morgan Gibbs-White

Tottenham have a cash reserve that could almost pay for Morgan Gibbs-White - Spurs Web
Description

Finance expert Adam Williams has questioned claims that Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer activity is indicative of equity being pumped into the club, explaining why Spurs can afford the deals they are doing without any investment being pumped in by the owners.

Many Spurs fans were expecting the club to be frugal in the current transfer window, as reports indicated at the start of the summer that Tottenham had to sell before buying due to their cash flow problems.

However, instead, the Lilywhites have spent big already, bringing three players through the door without any major player sales, with the biggest of the deals being the £55m signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.

Additionally, Spurs have activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause, but that deal is currently held up, with Nottingham Forest threatening legal action against Tottenham for speaking to Gibbs-White without their permission.

Spurs may be putting £55m overdraft and cash reserves to use

Several journalists see these deals as evidence that ENIC might have invested some money into Tottenham, but Adam Williams believes that may not necessarily be true.

He pointed out that Spurs already had an unused £55m overdraft and had cash reserves of almost £80m, which they may be putting into use this summer.

Williams told TBR Football: “We’re seeing significant investment at Tottenham Hotspur, yes, but I personally don’t see it as anything wildly out of the ordinary. The fact they were prepared to spend £60 million on Gibbs-White suggests their net spend is going to be at least £170million based on the headline figures we’ve seen.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“If they sign Wissa, it’s going to nudge that up towards £200 million. But there are going to be some sales as well, and some big earners are going to leave. Their player transfer amortisation in the last financial year was £136 million, which was the fifth highest in the league. It’s going to have risen past £150 million in 2024-25.

“It could be closer to £180-185million by the end of the summer, so Spurs not spending money in the transfer market is a bit of a myth. It’s the wage bill where they are more frugal. They have paid for a lot of their signings via instalments, though. Their transfer debt was the second-highest in the league last year at £337 million.

“With them going big again this summer, that’s going to remain very high. But they are going to have Champions League income next season, which I think is going to be worth a bare minimum of £75 million, even if they don’t win a single match. If they get out of the league phase, you’re looking at £110 million-plus. Yes, that is offset by bonuses and players, but the net benefit is still massive.

“So I personally don’t think Tottenham need to have had a massive cash investment to be making these signings, depending on how they have structured the deals. They’ve got a £55million overdraft they haven’t used, they are going to make player sales, reduce the wage bill, and are probably going to see revenue of £650million in 2025-26.

“At the end of the last financial year, they had nearly £80million in cash reserves too. I suspect that has reduced somewhat by now, but it was the second-highest in the Premier League at the time.”

It is interesting to note that a £55m cash reserve would almost be enough for Tottenham to pay for Morgan Gibbs-White’s release clause in full.

The other possible reason proposed by some sources for Tottenham’s aggressive spending is that money is on the way in the form of a huge sponsorship agreement.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed a couple of days ago that Spurs are closer to finalising a naming rights deal for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Meanwhile, Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe claimed that ‘a large sponsorship deal’ could soon be announced by Spurs.

Description

Juventus are not ready to let Yves Bissouma go to Fenerbahce without a fight, with the Serie A giants ready to push ahead with a move for the midfielder, but they do not want to meet Tottenham’s asking price.

Several new faces have already arrived through the door at Hotspur Way since Thomas Frank was announced as the club’s head coach, and it now appears that Bissouma might be the first player let go by the Dane.

It first emerged at the start of last week that Juventus are eyeing a move for Bissouma after finding out he is not part of the North London club’s plans.

However, since then, various sources have claimed that Fenerbahce have moved to the front of the queue to land Bissouma after Jose Mourinho asked the club to land the 28-year-old.

Juventus ready to seize the opportunity to land Yves Bissouma

A new report in Tutto Juve has now backed up the Bianconeri’s interest in the Tottenham Hotspur man, who now has just a year left on his contract at N17.

The outlet claims that Spurs consider the former Brighton man surplus to requirements and want to complete a quick sale this summer.

It is asserted that Bissouma’s situation is ‘set to evolve rapidly’ and Juve are ‘ready to seize the opportunity’ to secure his services.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites are hoping to get a fee of around €15m-€20m (£13m-£17.2m) for the experienced midfielder. However, Igor Tudor’s men do not want to pay more than €10m (£8.6m) for him.

Is a potential part-exchange deal on the cards between Spurs and Juventus?

The Serie A club’s pursuit of Bissouma is a very interesting development in light of Tottenham’s interest in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, who is thought to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

There have already been suggestions that Spurs could include Bissouma in a potential deal to sign Luiz, who is also thought to be on Man United’s radar.
