Heung-min Son wants to stay at Tottenham for one last season, but is it the right choice? - Spurs Web
Description

Heung-min Son has decided to see out his contract at Tottenham Hotspur, but will he continue to be one of the first names on the team sheet?

Heung-min Son has made a decision on his short-term future and it should come as no surprise, considering his loyalty to Tottenham. More than one news outlet has reported that Son wants to stay at Spurs for one more season.

Tottenham fans have been left split on the news about Son, with some feeling that now is the right time for his decade-long spell in North London to come to an end. However, others have displayed optimism, with the hope that Son will be more suited to Thomas Frank’s system than he was under that of Ange Postecoglou.

Whatever the case, Son will be remembered fondly at Spurs. The fact he stayed long enough to win the Europa League is a testament to his loyalty and commitment. However, last season was far from his best and if he fails to impress during the next campaign, it could have some effect on how he is remembered at Tottenham.

Heung-min Son could still start for Tottenham Hotspur

Despite being influential in bringing Mathys Tel to the club, Postecoglou favoured his captain over the France u21s international. With Tel yet to really stand out at Spurs, there is every reason to believe Son will still be above him in the pecking order.

Reports last month claimed Frank was open to Son leaving Tottenham, but this has since been rubbished, as Frank sees Son as a ‘pivotal figure’ at Spurs.

Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo have both been linked with moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but neither look likely to join. This is a further indication that Son could still have a role to play in the Tottenham first-team. Of course, there is still time for Spurs to add another left winger to their squad, but it is too early to say at this point in time.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Also, it is worth remembering that Son bagged 17 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League season before last. He may not look as sharp on the wing as he used to, but playing him in a front two or even as a lone striker could bring out the best in him.

Son can become a mentor at Spurs

The usefulness of having Heung-min Son remain at Tottenham goes beyond his position as a player in the Tottenham first-team squad. He knows what it means to be a Spurs player more than most, and he has been one of the best-performing players in England for a number of years.

Whether Spurs decide to sign another forward or stick with Tel, Son can be a mentor to his less experienced teammates and impart the wisdom he has picked up over the course of his career.

Son is a hero at both an international and club level and he knows the challenges someone faces when they wear the famous lilywhite. From disproportionate media scrutiny to the competitiveness of the Premier League, Son has experienced it all and anyone arriving at Hotspur Way would be lucky to learn from the best.

Is Son right to stay at Tottenham?

The answer to this question is maybe. There is certainly an advantage of having Son in the dressing room, helping young players find their feet. Mikey Moore is another young talent who needs guidance to help him unleash his potential.

He could also still have something to offer on the pitch. Even in a campaign with some disappointing performances on a personal level, Son was one of Tottenham’s most prominent attackers.

Leaving straight after a trophy win might be the best idea to preserve his legacy, but how badly can a single season mess that up? Son has been brilliant for Tottenham and the fact he wants to stay should be commended, not criticised.

Hopefully, he will have one final year he can be proud of before assessing his future next summer.

Richarlison’s preference revealed amid repeat Tottenham exit rumours - Spurs Web
Description

A new report has contradicted what we have heard about Thomas Frank’s stance on Richarlison over recent weeks and has also shed light on whether the Tottenham striker wants to stay or leave the Europa League champions this summer.

Tottenham have had a quiet start to the transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. That might be down to the fact that Thomas Frank wants to meet the Spurs players before deciding on their futures.

However, it has been claimed by several outlets over recent weeks that Frank has given the green light for Richarlison to be sold.

It even emerged a couple of days ago that Galatasaray are ready to make an offer for Richarlison, who Spurs are happy to sell for just £20m.

Thomas Frank wants to assess Richarlison in Tottenham pre-season

However, Sky Sports have now claimed on their live transfer blog that the new Spurs boss is ready to give the Brazilian a chance to impress in pre-season.

The 28-year-old is one of many players that Frank wants to assess over the coming weeks before deciding on their futures, with the Dane aware that he needs a big squad to cope with the rigours of Champions League football.

Interestingly, the outlet says that the former Everton man’s preference would be to remain at Tottenham rather than head through the exit door.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He believes that he has not been able to showcase his best in a Spurs shirt due to his injury troubles and has the desire to put that right.

Galatasaray do not want to sign Richarlison permanently

Sky Sports back up the claim that Galatasaray want to land the Tottenham man, and suggest that they could make an approach for him if the Lilywhites decide he is not part of their plans.

However, the outlet asserts that the Turkish club are more interested in a loan move, and they are far from the only side who have expressed an interest in Richarlison, who is on the radar of several clubs.

The report adds that the Spurs striker’s priority is to ensure he is Brazil’s first-choice number nine at next year’s World Cup and he is thus keen on getting regular football next season.

Tottenham fans may be concerned after Chelsea manager’s Mohammed Kudus comment - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans now face a nervous few days after Enzo Maresca made an admission about Mohammed Kudus amidst reports that Chelsea are looking to hijack Spurs’ move for the West Ham star.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Tottenham had an advantage over Chelsea in the race for Mohammed Kudus.

This was because the Blues could only afford a part-exchange deal due to their PSR situation while Spurs are willing to offer a straight cash deal, which is what West Ham prefer.

However, the Lilywhites have not been able to wrap up a deal for the winger, with Tottenham seeing two offers rejected for Kudus, with their bids having fallen short of the fee West Ham are demanding.

Over the last 24 hours, reports have indicated that Spurs are concerned that Chelsea will hijack their deal for Kudus, and the Blues manager’s comments will only make the North London club even more nervous.

Enzo Marseca admits he knows Mohammed Kudus well

Spurs Web has already relayed the information provided by journalist Simon Phillips on his Patreon claiming that Chelsea are now locked in negotiations with the Hammers for the Ghana international.

Phillips added that the West London club have to move fast to wrap up the deal as Tottenham are accelerating their efforts to land the Ghana international.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Enzo Mareseca has now been directly asked about Kudus, and not only did he refuse to rule out his signing, but the Spaniard revealed that he has known the winger since his Ajax days.

When asked about the rumours linking Kudus with a move to Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea boss said (via Nizaar Kinsella): “Mohammed is a West Ham player, he is not our player so I can’t say nothing. Only thing I can say is I know Kudus since Ajax.”

Why Tottenham are in serious danger of missing out on Kudus

No player has left the Hammers to join Spurs for the past 14 years, with Scott Parker being the last player to make the move back in 2011.

We know that West Ham have reluctantly decided to negotiate with Tottenham for Kudus, due to their desperate PSR situation, despite the possibility of a potential supporter backlash.

How Thomas Frank could line up for Tottenham’s pre-season opener against Reading - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank is set to take charge of his first Tottenham Hotspur pre-season match against Reading later this month, and while several key players remain unavailable, we have now attempted to predict what his first Spurs lineup could look like on 19 July.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to begin pre-season training in the coming weeks as the north London side prepares for the upcoming season under new management.

The 2025/26 campaign will be Thomas Frank’s first at the helm, and with expectations already starting to build, preparations will be key.

Spurs have arranged five pre-season friendlies, as Frank and his coaching staff look to embed their methods and tactical philosophy within the squad. While most senior players will be involved across the summer schedule, several academy products and younger talents are also expected to get minutes during this period.

Thomas Frank is expected to return to Hotspur Way this week, with several first-team players also reporting for duty. The pre-season schedule offers the Dane a chance to assess his options early on, with a mix of experienced heads and youthful prospects available for the opening fixtures.

How Thomas Frank could lineup in first game in charge of Spurs

We reported yesterday that Pedro Porro has already returned to training despite playing over fifty games for the club last season, as the full-back looks to begin pre-season preparations early under the club’s new management.

Tottenham are set to face Reading on the 19th of July, a fixture that will mark Frank’s first game in charge as manager, and one that provides the 51-year-old with a first opportunity to see his new side in action, albeit with several absentees due to international duty.

MORE SPURS STORIES

While most players will return to training this week, a number are still expected to be unavailable due to their involvement in the U19 and U21 European Championships.

This leaves Frank with a mixed squad of seasoned professionals and emerging youngsters to select from for the Reading clash. Here is how we expect Thomas Frank’s first lineup to look:

Antonin Kinsky is expected to start in goal for that match, with Guglielmo Vicario still recovering from an injury sustained during the last international break.

In defence, a back four comprising Djed Spence, Ashley Phillips, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie could be deployed, as Frank could hand out a starting place to one of his returning loan stars, Phillips.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall to feature in Tottenham’s pre-season opener

In midfield, Thomas Frank is likely to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are expected to start in the double pivot, with the latter one of five players we expect to look to impress the new Spurs boss in the first few weeks of training.

With Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison still unavailable, Jamie Donley is expected to operate in the number ten role. It represents a key opportunity for the academy graduate to show his ability and stake a claim ahead of the new campaign.

Up top, a front three of Yang Min-hyeok, Will Lankshear and Alfie Devine could lead the line. The likes of Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore and Mathys Tel remain unavailable due to their international commitments, while Heung-min Son and Dominic Solanke should be named on the bench as experienced options to call upon if required.

Tottenham’s £100,000 wage bill problem shows why they are not competing at the top

Tottenham’s £100,000 wage bill problem shows why they are not competing at the top - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s conservative wage bill could be the very thing stopping them from competing with England’s elite, as a worrying statistic reveals a lack of top earners compared to their rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur continues to drag its feet this summer window, as the club is yet to make any big statement signings.

So far, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso and Kota Takai are the three deals completed by the Lilywhites, costing them a combined total of £55.5million.

Tottenham have also already gotten four players off their wage books, as Timo Werner’s loan spell ended this summer, while Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Whiteman, and Fraser Forster all departed following the expiration of their contracts.

This has seen Spurs save a whopping £15.6million in annual wages after those four player decisions, and that figure could rise even further this summer.

Tottenham risk falling further behind due to strict wage structure

Of course, it is not news that Tottenham Hotspur operate within a tight wage structure, with the club’s current highest earner, Heung-min Son, capped at £190,000 a week.

The next highest, James Maddison, currently earns £170,000 a week, while Cristian Romero comes in third, taking home £165,000.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, based on recent reports, which state that Son could depart Tottenham and Romero could leave following interest from Atletico Madrid, Spurs could very well have just two players earning over £100,000 in weekly wages ahead of next season.

Which, in comparison to their other “big six” rivals, could explain why Spurs are so far behind the top.

As it stands, according to Capology, Arsenal currently have 18 players earning more than £100,000 in wages, while Liverpool, the Premier League winners, has 12.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Chelsea, on the other hand, have 16 and 15 players, respectively, earning over £100,000 in weekly wages.

Spurs’ transfer plans may suffer without flexibility in wages

Of course, having high earners does not always translate to tangible results on the pitch, as Tottenham Hotspur managed to grab a piece of silverware last season, while Arsenal ended without a trophy despite having the most players on high wages.

However, while that remains a fact, Spurs’ performance in the league last term also showed the gulf in quality between themselves and the so-called big six.

In their annual report from last season, Tottenham’s wage bill was significantly reduced, and that was down to the club losing Harry Kane, yet he was replaced with a player who earned a fraction of his pay.

This season, Tottenham’s strict wage structure could also cost them in the summer market. If they fail to pay the wages that top players attract, the club would simply be left further behind by their rivals, who continue to improve their squad.

At the moment, it seems as though Daniel Levy and Co. are searching for cheap alternative options that need a few months to adapt to the squad after joining.

Reports claim that Tottenham are looking to change their transfer strategy this summer, with a focus said to be on bringing in players with experience, yet it remains all talk with no action.

Meanwhile, proven winners with experience are joining the other big six, further widening the gap between themselves and the Lilywhites.

When Thomas Frank will have his first Tottenham Hotspur press conference - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank is now firmly in place at Tottenham, and reports have now confirmed when fans can expect to hear from their new head coach for the very first time.

Weeks after being crowned champions of Europe, Tottenham Hotspur decided to sack Ange Postecoglou and embark on a new era under former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

The Danish manager comes in with a reputation for punching above his weight, having turned Brentford into a Premier League regular since their promotion in 2021.

Tottenham finished 17th last season, despite lifting the Europa League trophy, and one of Frank’s first major tasks will be to push the Lilywhites back up the Premier League table.

Thomas Frank to hold first Tottenham press conference before Reading friendly

The Tottenham hierarchy, including Daniel Levy, has made it clear he believes Thomas Frank is the right man to take the club forward.

Frank has already made an early impression during his initial interview, where he outlined what fans can expect from his team, along with his clear non-negotiables.

The Tottenham boss, however, has since been on holiday, but a report from football.london has now revealed that Thomas Frank is expected back at Hotspur Way this week, where he would meet with his new players for the first time, to begin preparing for the new campaign.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is also understood that his first press conference at Tottenham is set to take place before their opening pre-season fixture against Reading on 19 July.

Tottenham pull out of race for £13m winger as Everton and Leeds United step up interest

Tottenham pull out of race for £13m winger as Everton and Leeds United step up interest - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are no longer pursuing a deal for a versatile Serie A star, who has been heavily linked with a move to N17 over recent weeks, but the player may be bound for the Premier League this summer.

Unlike previous Tottenham managers, who arrived at the N17 with a clearly defined way of playing and a preferred system, there is some uncertainty over what system Thomas Frank will employ at the club.

The Dane has demonstrated tactical versatility at Brentford, being no stranger to using a 3-5-2 and a 4-3-3, although he primarily employed a 4-2-3-1 last season with the Bees and switched to a slightly more possession-based approach.

Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Timothy Weah makes sense in light of Frank’s willingness to adapt and even change systems mid-game, with the Juventus star being capable of operating as a right-back, a right wing-back and a right-forward.

It was reported a few days ago Spurs face competition from some of their Premier League rivals for Weah, and it turns out that those rivals have now moved to the front of the queue ahead of the Lilywhites.

Tottenham pull out of the race for Timothy Weah

According to a report in Foot Mercato, Everton and Leeds United are now battling it out for the Bianoneri star’s services.

The report says that Spurs are no longer keen on landing the 25-year-old, thus opening the door for the Toffees and the Whites to push ahead in the race.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Additionally, AS Monaco are also fans of Weah and are looking at him as an option for right-back but they would first have to sell Vanderson to advance on a deal for the USA international.

Finally, Marseille are also keeping an eye on the Serie A star, who Igor Tudor’s men are willing to sell for €15m (£13m) this summer.

Another report in Tutto Juve reports the same figure as Juve’s asking price and also names Everton and Leeds as the leading contenders to land the wide-man.

Why Monaco’s interest in Weah may be good news for Spurs

It may be significant from a Tottenham Hotspur perspective that Monaco are interested in Weah, particularly the assertion that they would have to sell Vanderson to fund a move for the American.

This is because it has been widely reported that Vanderson is on Spurs’ shortlist this summer as the Brazilian nears a departure from the Ligue 1 side.

Tottenham predicted to rinse Manchester United owners for the price of one Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham predicted to rinse Manchester United owners for the price of one Lucas Bergvall - Spurs Web
Description

Football finance expert Keith Wyness believes that Manchester United’s co-owners INEOS could end up paying a bigger compensation to Tottenham Hotspur than what reports in the media suggest.

INEOS Grenadier car became Tottenham’s official 4×4 vehicle partner, but after the company ran into some financial trouble, they decided to end the sponsorship agreement with Spurs two years before the deal was due to run out.

Last month, Spurs took High Court legal action against INEOS for ending the contract early, although the global chemical company maintained that they were within their rights to end the agreement when they did.

It has since emerged that Tottenham are seeking as much as £11m from INEOS Automotive as compensation for discontinuing the agreement.

Tottenham could get £15m out of court settlement from Manchester United

Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness believes that Daniel Levy and Spurs have a strong case, and has explained that they will also be owed interest and further compensation beyond the £11m.

He has suggested that Tottenham could benefit to the tune of £15m and expects the two parties to settle out of court just ahead of the case’s hearing. To put that into context, Spurs paid just over £15m in total to sign Lucas Bergvall.

When asked about the compensation Spurs are demanding, Wyness told Football Insider: “I think it’s £11m plus and they’ve asked for the judge to decide about interest and possible other further relief in terms of any damages caused.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“From my understanding, INEOS claim that they had the right to withdraw from the contract, under any normal contract that may have been the case. However, given the track record that INEOS has had in sports, it would point to the fact that Spurs may have a case.

“We’ve got to see how it comes out, but I think there was about £5m in terms of fees that were unpaid, plus, they could be claiming for an extra year to try and find a replacement sponsor. So £11m would certainly be a starting point.

“Normally, if you were filing a claim like that, you’d start high and expect to get maybe £5m-£6m. But again, if the judge finds INEOS did breach the contract for the wrong reasons, then it could be up to £15m.

“I would expect it to be settled out of court. I think the day before it actually gets to court, they’ll find a way to try and work that one out. That’s what I’d be trying to do if I were in both their shoes.”

Why Tottenham will squeeze as much as they can from INEOS

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that Tottenham have cash flow problems due to their outstanding transfer debt.

Several sources have suggested that Spurs need ENIC to pump money into the club after failing to secure investment in order to back Thomas Frank with big money this summer.

Fulham tell Tottenham how much Antonee Robinson will cost this summer

Fulham tell Tottenham how much Antonee Robinson will cost this summer - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just learned that they would have to break the bank to land Antonee Robinson, with Fulham having no intention of letting the left-back leave on the cheap.

Destiny Udogie is now the only recognised left-back in Tottenham’s squad after Sergio Reguilon was released by the club.

While Spurs have taken the option to extend Ben Davies’ contract by one year, the Welshman has featured primarily as a centre-back for club and country over the last few years.

That perhaps explains why it emerged earlier this week that Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Antonee Robinson.

Fulham name asking price for Tottenham target Antonee Robinson

The reveal about Tottenham’s interest in Antonee Robinson came from Paul O’Keefe, who said that the Cottagers are aware of Spurs’ admiration for the 27-year-old.

A new report from GiveMeSport has now claimed that Robinson has attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe.

It is asserted that Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to explore a move for the USA international, but Fulham are desperate to keep him at the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As a result, the West London side have slapped a £45m price tag on the defender, which they hope will fend off Spurs and other interested clubs.

Marco Silva’s men believe that the price is a fair one considering the fee that the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Milos Kerkez have gone for this summer.

Why Tottenham would not want to spend £45m on Robinson

The Fulham man has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most consistent left-backs across the Premier League over recent years.

That is why some Spurs fans are keen to see Tottenham secure a deal for Robinson, believing he would provide strong competition to Udogie.

However, realistically, the 27-year-old is not going to start over the Italian and it may not be prudent for the Lilywhites to spend £45m on back up.

Tottenham told Jacob Ramsey would be open to joining Thomas Frank project

Tottenham told Jacob Ramsey would be open to joining Thomas Frank project - Spurs Web
Description

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown believes that Jacobs Ramsey would be happy to swap Villa Park for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after learning about Thomas Frank’s plans for him.

It has been widely reported that Frank wants to strengthen Tottenham’s midfield department this summer while it has also been claimed that Spurs are looking to improve their homegrown numbers.

That explains why Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Jacob Ramsey amidst suggestions that Villa are happy to cash in on the Englishman to improve their PSR situation.

A couple of days ago, Mick Brown claimed that Thomas Frank is a fan of Ramsey, and he has now said that there is only one thing that the 24-year-old needs to consider before greenlighting a move to N17.

Jacob Ramsey is expected to get regular game time at Tottenham

Brown, who worked for over a decade as a scout at Hotspur Way, has suggested that Ramsey is not central to Unai Emery’s plans at Villa Park.

He claimed that the midfielder would get more minutes under Frank at Spurs and suggested that assurances of game time would see the player greenlight a move to N17.

When asked if Ramsey would be open to joining Tottenham, Brown told Football Insider: “Jacob Ramsey has to make a decision. In his own mind, he’ll weigh up whether he thinks he’s going to be a regular in the Villa team.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“If that’s not the case, he has to ask the same question about whether he would be at Tottenham. From what I hear, Spurs would be prepared to offer him more minutes from the start of games than he is currently getting at Villa.

“If that is the case, I’m sure he would be happy to make that move. He’s had doubts about whether he’s going to be a regular starting XI player at Villa, or if he’s going to be better served moving somewhere else. So, a move to Tottenham Hotspur would be a fresh start and a new environment for him.

“There have been a few questions about what his future at Villa might look like, because the manager isn’t certain he’s going to be a big part of the plans. That opens the door for Spurs, because Thomas Frank likes rates him and he’s one they’ve been interested in for a while.”

Would Ramsey actually get regular game time at Spurs?

Reports continue to indicate that Yves Bissouma will be allowed to leave Spurs this summer.

Additionally, there are also question marks about the future of Rodrigo Bentancur, who has just one year to run on his deal.

However, we know that the new Spurs boss is a fan of the Uruguayan, with Frank praising Bentancur in his first interview as Tottenham boss.

There is thus expected to be some turnover in Tottenham’s midfield this summer and Ramsey may fancy his chances of forcing himself into the Dane’s startling eleven should he make the move to North London.
