Description

Tottenham’s attempts to sign a Napoli midfielder in January may have been stopped by the North London club’s former boss.

It proved to be a disappointing transfer window for the Lilywhites, who only managed to add Conor Gallagher and Souza to their senior squad while letting go of Brennan Johnson.

Many Tottenham fans have vented their frustration that more players did not come through the door, particularly given the club’s current injury crisis.

It has now emerged that the North London club were keen on adding another young midfielder to their squad, but their attempts were stopped.

Napoli turned down Tottenham’s offer for Antonio Vergara

According to a report in TuttoSport, Spurs expressed an interest in Napoli starlet Antonio Vergara during the January window

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also operate on the right wing, has found form over recent weeks in Naples, taking advantage of the Serie A club’s injury crisis.

It is revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were particularly impressed by how Vergara performed against Chelsea after the Italian embarrassed Wesley Fofana before finding the back of the net.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report claims that the Lilywhites sent an offer of €20m (£17.4m) for the youngster, which was turned down by Antonio Conte’s side, who were keen to keep hold of the player.

Will Spurs try again for Antonio Vergara in the summer?

According to reports, Tottenham were also exploring adding a creative passer to their midfield in January, but in the end, they were unable to add that profile to their squad.

It has been suggested that Spurs are planning for an ‘ambitious’ summer spending spree as they look to strengthen their squad in several areas.

One would thus expect the club to address that position in the next window, and we will have to wait and see if the Lilywhites make another move for the Napoli starlet, who is continuing to impress at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Ramon Vega reveals worrying thing he has heard about Luka Vuskovic’s Tottenham future - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans will not like what Ramon Vega has just said about Luka Vuskovic amidst the speculation over the centre-back’s future.

Vuskovic continues to win admirers with his performances on loan at Hamburg, with the 18-year-old quickly establishing a reputation as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Unsurprisingly, the teenager’s performances have turned the heads of some big clubs on the continent.

Just a few days ago, it emerged that Bayern Munich are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve to land Vuskovic in the summer, and one Spurs defender believes that the Croat is on his way out of N17.

Ramon Vega does not expect Luka Vuskovic to return to Tottenham

Reacting to the speculation over the centre-back’s future, Vega has now declared that Tottenham ‘made the wrong decision’ to loan out Vuskovic and that the youngster ‘is not coming back to Spurs’.

He claimed that he has heard through the grapevine that Vuskovic is likely to join Bayern Munich for a fee of around £100m.

The former Tottenham man initially wrote on X about the Croat: “This player is not coming back to Spurs! Another of many players the Spurs had a chance with, but they made the wrong decision.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“This is an example of the problem Spurs have been having within the football department! A total neglect. They will make good money, for sure, but there’s no football direction within the club. Off to Bayern he goes, no wonder I will not blame him.”

Then, responding to some fans, Vega followed that up with: “Let’s just say it. Heard it through the grapevine. Of course, Spurs still have to accept the fee they are offering.” Finally, he added: “£100m, they will take the money as usual.”

Should Spurs fans be concerned about losing Vuskovic?

It is unclear where Vega heard this information, but it may leave some Tottenham fans concerned about the teenage startlet’s future.

However, recent reports in the media contradict his statements, with some outlets stating Spurs have already decided that Vuskovic will return to Hotspur Way next summer.

Tottenham fans react as Fabrizio Romano confirms £7.8m summer cash boost - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have had their say after Fabrizio Romano delivered a fresh transfer update involving one of the club’s young forwards.

It never really worked out for Alejo Veliz in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. The Argentine managed just eight appearances for the Lilywhites during his time at the club, which was littered with several loan spells.

Those loan moves spanned across sides in Europe and South America, following stints at Espanyol, Sevilla and Rosario Central – his latest loan move secured in the summer.

The 22-year-old has shone in Argentina with his boyhood club – both before and during his Tottenham career – scoring 25 times in 82 appearances. However, he is now finally set to depart Spurs permanently.

Alejo Veliz’s exit sparks Tottenham fan reaction

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bahia will pay €9 million (£7.8 million) plus add-ons for Alejo Veliz, who will have his medical at the club in June when the transfer will be completed permanently.

Spurs fans have now reacted to the latest report, with many feeling like the Veliz transfer was a waste of time.

One fan said: “Another Levy signing… What a waste of time and effort.” One fan labelled it just “another loss making signing.”

Another commented: “Waste of time signing.”

A frustrated Tottenham fan said: “This one just about sums our transfer business up since moving to the shiny ENIC bowl.”

At least one supporter was satisfied, adding: “Fair enough getting that much for him!” While a final supporter stated: “Pointless signing.”

Youth recruitment risks Tottenham must weigh

Indeed, these are some of the risks that come from signing young players with potential. There is every chance that they might never reach the desired level to contribute to one’s first-team squad.

Spurs, however, at the moment have several youngsters with huge potential, and they must learn from Veliz’s situation to ensure they select the right path suited to their development.

Former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has ultimate control over who he sells ENIC shares to

Former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has ultimate control over who he sells ENIC shares to - Spurs Web
Description

The Telegraph’s Matt Law has explained why former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has the ultimate power in deciding who he sells his ENIC shares to.

Levy holds a 29.88 per cent stake in ENIC, the company that owns 86.58 per cent of Spurs, and is controlled by the Lewis family trust.

It emerged last week that the former Tottenham chairman is in talks over selling his stake to Hong Kong businessman Ng Wing Fai for a fee in the region of £1 billion.

It was subsequently reported by Football Insider that the Lewis family may consider buying Levy’s shares if the buyer identified by the former Spurs chairman is not deemed suitable by the club’s majority owners.

Tottenham’s majority owners have no control over who Daniel Levy sells his stake to

The Telegraph’s Matt Law has now revealed that the Lewis family are powerless to stop Levy from selling his stake in ENIC to any party he deems fit.

The Lewis family do not have any first refusal or matching rights on Levy’s stake in ENIC, which means that the 63-year-old will ultimately decide with whom he does the deal.

Additionally, it is revealed that Levy’s shares do not give the holder any first refusal or preferred bidder status if the club is ever sold in the future.

MORE SPURS STORIES

While Law points out that reports are doing the rounds about Levy potentially cashing in his stake, he adds that the former Tottenham Hotspur chairman has ‘dismissed’ suggestions that he is close to selling his shares to Wing-Fa.

Doubts over £1 billion value ascribed to Levy’s stake

Law asserts that Levy’s stake in ENIC comes with no Tottenham voting rights, no place on the Spurs board or any other position of influence in N17.

As a result, insiders have doubted claims that the former Spurs supremo could get £1 billion for his stake in ENIC, as the buyer will not have much power at the club.

One source is quoted as saying to The Telegraph: “It’s hard to know why Daniel’s stake would be attractive to anybody other than the Lewis family. It’s a stake in ENIC, not Tottenham.

“It wouldn’t give anybody else any influence over the club or any advantage in terms of trying to buy the club in the future. Other than potentially trying to buy it to make some money on, it comes with absolutely nothing.”

Two failed Tottenham bidders could team up to make big Daniel Levy move - Spurs Web
Description

Two billionaires who have failed with bids to buy Tottenham Hotspur from ENIC are now discussing teaming up to make a new move that involves Daniel Levy.

According to reports over recent days, the recently ousted former Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, is in talks with Hong Kong businessman Ng Wing-Fai over selling his stake in ENIC for a fee approaching £1 billion.

This is after the club’s majority owners, ENIC, rejected multiple expressions of interest in taking over Tottenham over the last few months.

That reportedly included a £4.5 billion attempt to purchase Spurs by a consortium headed by Brooklyn Earick, and the former DJ turned entrepreneur could now make another move.

Brooklyn Earick and Ng Wing-Fai could team up to buy into Tottenham

The Sun have now revealed that Wing-Fai’s interest has also previously been turned down by the Lewis family, who own the majority of ENIC.

The report says that Wing-Fai and Earick could now join forces to buy Levy’s 29.9 per cent stake in ENIC, who own 86.58 per cent of Spurs.

However, it is explained that under the Takeover Panel rules, both businessmen are prevented from “making a bid or taking steps towards a takeover” for a period of six months after withdrawing their earlier bids.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That means that neither party can purchase Levy’s share until March 6, but the two businessmen remain in contact over forming a concert party ahead of a future offer.

Wing-Fai wants to add a Spurs purchase clause

The Sun say that the Hong Kong-based businessman wants to add a ‘relegation clause’ in any offer to buy Levy’s shares of ENIC, which would reduce the value of the deal should Tottenham go down.

However, that is something that Levy may reject. The report adds that representatives of ENIC have indicated that they are not aware of any potential agreement between Levy and potential buyers.

Description

Amid reports that Daniel Levy is holding talks over selling his share in ENIC, it has now emerged that Tottenham’s majority owners may make a big move.

Daniel Levy stepped down from his role as Tottenham chairman back in September after being at the helm of the North London club for 24 years.

However, the former Spurs chairman still holds a stake in the club as he owns a minority 29.88 per cent share in ENIC, which is the 86.91 per cent majority stakeholder of Tottenham Hotspur.

The remaining 70.12 per cent of ENIC is owned by the Joe Lewis family trust, with Lewis’s daughter, Vivienne, and his son, Charles, becoming more actively involved in the running of Tottenham over recent months.

The Lewis family could be open to purchasing Daniel Levy’s shares

Last week, it emerged that Levy was in talks with Hong Kong businessman Ng Wing Fai over selling his stake in Tottenham for a fee in the region of £1 billion.

However, Football Insider has now revealed that, according to some sources, there are question marks around whether the consortium Levy is in talks with is the right group to get control of Tottenham, alongside the Lewis family.

As a result, Tottenham’s majority owners are open to purchasing Daniel Levy’s shares if the former Spurs chairman fails to find a suitable buyer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, should a suitable buyer be found, the Lewis family would be willing to work alongside new investors to take the club forward.

The Lewis family have turned down interest in Spurs

Football Insider add that Tottenham’s owners value the club overall at around £4 billion.

However, the Lewis family have already rejected several expressions of interest in buying Tottenham over the last few months.

Description

Tottenham academy youngster Yusuf Akhamrich has made a terrific start to his first loan spell away from Hotspur Way, with the youngster netting his third goal for his new side on Tuesday.

We saw several Tottenham academy players head out on loan in January, with many of them making their first moves away from Hotspur Way.

One of those getting his first taste of senior football is winger Yusuf Akhamrich, who joined League Two side Bristol Rovers in a temporary move.

Akhamrich netted twice in his first start in League Two against Newport County on Saturday, and he has now followed it up with another strike.

Tottenham youngster Yusuf Akhamrich scores again for Bristol Rovers

On the back of his heroics against Newport County, Akhamrich unsurprisingly kept his place in the starting eleven as the Rovers hosted Walsall on Tuesday night.

After a tight first-half, it was the 20-year-old who opened the scoring for the home side with a fine finish just past the hour mark.

Akhamrich was played through on goal and opened up his body nicely to plant a finish into the bottom corner, sending the Rovers on their way to a 2-0 win.

Three changes Thomas Frank should make to Tottenham’s Champions League squad

Three changes Thomas Frank should make to Tottenham’s Champions League squad - Spurs Web
Description

With the January transfer window over, Tottenham can finally update their Champions League squad and Thomas Frank has some tough decisions to make.

It’s been a disappointing month for Spurs, with only two new additions to the first-team squad and no league wins in the month of January.

Thomas Frank’s squad has been depleted by injuries, while the experienced Brennan Johnson has moved on. That leaves Tottenham a bit short, but also opens up some opportunities when it comes to the Champions League.

The one thing to cheer about for Spurs fans right now is the Champions League, but Frank has to make sure he adjusts his squad accordingly to give himself the best chance of success in the knockout stages.

What changes Tottenham need for Champions League knockout squad

Now that we are into February and the knockout stages are upon us, clubs can make three changes to their Champions League squad.

That’s great timing for Spurs, but Frank has a bit of a headache to deal with. Essentially, Tottenham have 27 first-team players to fit into just 21 spaces (the lack of homegrown players means the squad has to be dramatically reduced from the standard 25-man squad).

Obviously, Brennan Johnson will be removed, while Ben Davies is out for the season, so he will drop out, too. Conor Gallagher is an easy decision to throw in there, especially as he’s homegrown.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, while Mathys Tel would be the natural choice to include, Spurs are not allowed to put him in the squad unless they take out a non-homegrown player. Frank could gamble and take the likes of Mohammed Kudus or Lucas Bergvall, who are injured until potentially the end of March, but that would be a risk if Spurs do make it to the latter stages of the tournament.

Honestly, though, if it were up to me, I would probably take that chance. It’s better to have a full squad of fit players than to hope for the best and wait for injured players to come back. We could keep Kudus and co. in there and then get knocked out anyway, so what’s the point?

Kudus probably gets a stay of execution, purely because the wing areas are so poor right now. So for me, it’s Bergvall out and Tel in for the knockout rounds. Radu Dragusin will feel aggrieved not to be included, but Spurs have just enough cover for the defensive areas already.

One of the more interesting decisions will be what Thomas Frank does regarding Dejan Kulusevski, who has still not returned from injury and would likely only play a part if Spurs make it to the matter stages.

With all that in mind, I would suggest:

Out: Ben Davies, Brennan Johnson, Rodrigo Bentancur (or Kevin Danso depending on the seriousness of his injury)

In: Radu Dragusin, Conor Gallagher, Dejan Kulusevski

Radu Dragusin should have been sold in January

The fact that Dragusin is still a Spurs player is ludicrous, frankly. It seemed so obvious that he would move on, even if it was a loan.

With the likes of Napoli and Roma in for him, it’s not like Spurs were short of options to offload the Romanian, either. For the sake of the club and the player, it seemed like the logical move. Perhaps Kevin Danso’s injury put an end to that.

But, given the injury crisis, Thomas Frank may well need Dragusin to give Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven some rest or cover, especially with Danso and Davies both out.

Regardless, Dragusin has to be one of the first players out of the door in the summer, with Luka Vuskovic replacing him in the squad for 2026/27.

Johan Lange praises ‘fantastic human’ who could become a Tottenham ‘leader’ - Spurs Web
Description

Johan Lange has revealed the qualities Conor Gallagher possesses, which will ensure he does well at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur did not have the busiest of transfer windows, and initially, it seemed more attention was being paid to offloading players rather than making new signings.

However, a new arrival was eventually announced after Spurs agreed a deal to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder has already jumped straight into the first team, making three Premier League appearances and securing his first assist last Sunday against Manchester City.

Johan Lange raves about Conor Gallagher’s experience

Tottenham’s sporting director is delighted to have Gallagher on board, especially as he is a player the club have been watching for some time.

Lange is particularly excited by the experience the 25-year-old already has under his belt, which includes receiving 22 caps for the England national team.

He told Tottenham Hotspur: “Conor is a player that we have followed for a number of years. Obviously, he comes with a fantastic pedigree; his experience both with the Premier League, his period in La Liga have definitely also helped him to grow as a human being, as a player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Of course, he has played a number of times for England as well. So, he’s a player that, of course, can come in and help us on the first day – his energy, his quality in midfield, his work rate, the way he can drive a team forward is something that I’m sure will help us. We’ve already seen that from day one.”

According to Lange, Gallagher is just as impressive off the pitch as he is on it and he could become influential behind the scenes.

“Then, of course, as a character, he’s a fantastic human being,” Lange continued. “He’s a leader. He has been captain earlier in his career and he’s somebody that really will be an important voice in the dressing room this season and in many seasons to come.”

Conor Gallegher could join the Tottenham leadership team next season

Ben Davies is unlikely to remain at Spurs after the summer and there have been doubts surrounding Guglielmo Vicario’s future for a while.

This could open up some spaces in the five-man leadership group at Tottenham and with Gallagher possessing the qualities Lange has mentioned, he could be a potential candidate.

Two of the current members in this group have been injured all season, so more leaders are needed at Spurs. Gallagher could be the perfect fit and taking on such a responsibility will only help him as he looks to make North London his permanent home.

Supercomputer predicts how likely Tottenham are to beat Man United in the Premier League - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans may not be encouraged by what Opta’s Supercomputer has predicted ahead of the team’s trip to Man United.

Spurs can take plenty of confidence from the way they fought back against Man City in the second half after they looked dead and buried at the interval.

The fact that the Lilywhites did it with so many players missing makes it an even better achievement, and Tottenham fans will be hoping that their side can build on that momentum when they face the other side from Manchester on Saturday.

However, the Red Devils are a completely different side to what they were a few weeks ago, with Michael Carrick galvanising the club since replacing Ruben Amorim at the helm.

Man United are massive favourites to beat Tottenham

The one positive for Spurs is that Thomas Frank has said that Micky van de Ven could be fit for the trip to Old Trafford, while he confirmed that Djed Spence will also not be out for long.

However, despite that, Opta’s Supercomputer has installed the home side as considerable favourites, giving them an exact 50 per cent chance of getting all three points.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A draw and a Spurs win are deemed almost equally as likely, with the data analysis platform giving a 25.2 per cent chance for the former and a 24.8 per cent chance for the latter.

Spurs have an excellent record against Man United of late

Tottenham boast of an excellent record against United over recent years, having beaten them four times last season, including in the Europa League final.

The Spurs players will also have happy memories of Old Trafford, having won 3-0 at the stadium last season.
