Description

Ange Postecoglou has confessed that the way Tottenham Hotspur prepared for the 2024-25 season was not ideal and remarked that he is keen to correct those errors ahead of the next campaign.

While Tottenham have had their poorest Premier League season on record, it is fair to say that most Spurs fans do not care about that at the moment after the club made history in Bilbao last Wednesday by securing their first European trophy in 41 years.

However, reports indicate that Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board are still contemplating sacking Postecoglou as the feeling at the club is that their performances domestically have simply not been up to scratch.

While the Australian will point to injuries as a mitigating factor, some will feel that Postecoglou’s training methods and his style of play contributed to Tottenham’s injury crisis.

Ange Postecoglou admits he got things wrong last summer

The Tottenham head coach has now confessed that the preparation for this season was not ideal, insisting that he will learn from the mistakes that were made.

The 59-year-old also stressed the need for the club to change their transfer strategy and add more experience to the Tottenham squad this summer.

When asked if there are any lessons to take from this season, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “Yeah look you learn from every season. I think looking back at our pre-season last year, I don’t think it was ideal and there were certain things we needed to do differently and certainly needed to design differently for the coming year.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“How we get our guys ready for what is going to be the biggest challenge of Premier League and Champions League football, we know it is a massive challenge, so how do we prepare our players? I think our players will be better equipped.

“You know we started the season and people forget we signed Dom, who has been unbelievable for us but then we signed three teenagers. They weren’t ready for what was ahead. They’ve been unbelievable, obviously, Wilson has missed a lot of the season but Lucas and Archie have been unbelievable.

“We signed three teenagers but next year they are not going to be teenagers, they are more than ready and will be in a better space straight away. That is the other lesson learned, that we can’t and I don’t think anyway, that would be my direction that you need to now bring in some experience for this group in terms of our recruiting.

“So, you learn lessons from that and I’ve said all along, I have still felt there has been growth this year and we’ll be much better placed at the beginning of next year to tackle what is ahead than we were at the start of this one.”

Postecoglou overwhelmed by Tottenham reaction during trophy parade

The Tottenham faithful came out in droves on Friday, which was to be expected as the long-suffering fans had not had a trophy to celebrate for nearly two decades.

Postecoglou admitted that he was overwhelmed by the number of people who came out and the sheer joy on the faces of the supporters.

Speaking about the trophy parade, the Australian said: “Yeah, look I was overwhelmed by the sea of people and every demographic you can think of. There were grown men crying, women, girls and boys just so ecstatic that you feel irrespective of what is happening in their lives at the moment, they were all just so joyous.

“When you see the sheer magnitude of the numbers, you realise it is a massive club. I had a sense of that before I joined but I guess even for the club itself, it reaffirms that missing piece of success and what it can do to galvanise a supporter base and really show the size of the club. It’s fair to say it is a massive club and the opportunity now is to make it bigger than ever.”

Description

Lionel Messi has reacted to Cristian Romero’s post about Tottenham ruling London after the Lilywhites’ historic Europa League success.

One can understand why Spurs fans have reacted so emotionally to the Europa League win, given the constant mocking they have had to endure from rival fans over the last two decades.

Tottenham have now finally got the monkey off their backs and their supporters will now hope that this win opens the floodgates in terms of trophies for the club over the coming years.

Tottenham fans can now have bragging rights over Arsenal, with the Lilywhites’ European trophy tally now looking extremely impressive.

Lionel Messi reacts to Cristian Romero’s social media post about Tottenham

Spurs and Crystal Palace are the only two London clubs that will end the season with major silverware, and that fact has not been lost on Cristian Romero.

Following the huge trophy parade on Friday, which saw hundreds of thousands of fans take to the streets, Romero took to social media to post that London is Lilywhite.

His post read: “London is [white heart emoji] @spursofficial. The only way to get my name engraved in this club was like this [trophy emoji]. We deserved this @spursofficial. Thank you all for the love as always!!!”

It will delight Spurs fans to know that his international teammate, Lionel Messi, ‘liked’ Romero’s post, which indicates that the Argentine superstar agrees with the sentiment of Tottenham’s dominance in London – we hope.

What Cristian Romero has said about his future

Over the last couple of months, a number of outlets have reported that Romero is edging closer to a move to Atletico Madrid.

When asked about his future following the Europa League win, the Tottenham vice-captain said that he loves the club but refused to guarantee that he will remain at N17.

Description

Ange Postecoglou has weighed in on Cristian Romero’s Tottenham future in his last press conference of the season, with the Australian sending a clear message to Daniel Levy about the centre-back’s importance to the side.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly working hard behind the scenes to sign Romero, who has two years left to run on his contract at Tottenham.

Some journalists have suggested that Tottenham’s Europa League success may give them renewed hope of hanging on to Romero, but the Spurs vice-captain has been unwilling to commit his future to the club.

Even when asked specifically about the speculation over his future after the Europa League win, Romero kept his cards close to his chest.

Ange Postecoglou says Cristian Romero is irreplaceable

Postecoglou is clear that Tottenham Hotspur need to hang onto the Argentine under any circumstances, given the experience and the leadership he brings.

The Spurs head coach suggested that a player of the 27-year-old’s quality and influence cannot be replaced, and urged the club to do everything in their power to tie him down for the long term.

When asked how key it is for Tottenham to keep Romero and whether he is the man to get the centre-back to stay, Postecoglou responded (Football.London): “Yeah, look I think Romero is absolutely important to keep at this football club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“You just saw the way he’s been in the last (weeks) and he hasn’t been fully fit to be fair with his toe, but you’ve seen he’s a World Cup winner. He is a winner. You saw that in all the big games we’ve had and the lads certainly respect him very highly.

“He makes them walk a bit taller, so yeah from my perspective it is a no-brainer that making sure players like him (stay), because if he goes, who do you replace him with? There are not too many out there like him. It will be very important for the club to try and retain him, and retain him for the longer term I think.”

Why Tottenham could face a difficult decision regarding Romero

It has been widely reported that Romero has rejected Tottenham’s advances over contract talks, even though the North London club are willing to make him their highest-paid player.

One would expect the Lilywhites to perhaps try to restart talks with the centre-back following their Europa League success, which brings along with it qualification for the Champions League.

However, if Romero rejects those advances and Atletico come in with a sizable offer, it will give Tottenham a difficult decision to make.

Description

Mathys Tel reflects on an emotional end to the season at Spurs following their Europa League triumph – “Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us.”

The curtains have fallen on the 2024/25 season for Tottenham Hotspur, and what a rollercoaster it has been, both for the fans who have endured the highs and lows and the players who have fought to the very end.

Tottenham ended their Premier League campaign on a sour note, falling to a 4-1 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion in their final fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, capping off a league season that saw them finish a disappointing 17th after suffering a club-record 22 defeats from 38 games.

Yet, despite the domestic struggles, spirits remain high in north London, where the focus has shifted towards their triumph in Europe – a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final at San Mames Stadium in Spain.

Mathys Tel speaks after final Tottenham game of the season

Those jubilant celebrations carried over into the weekend’s clash with Brighton, as the Tottenham squad paraded the Europa League trophy on the pitch after full-time, receiving a guard of honour from several former Spurs players.

As the celebratory scenes unfolded, Tottenham’s media team caught up with Mathys Tel, who was instrumental on the day and has been steadily growing into his role during his time on loan in north London.

The French forward was a constant menace down the left flank, relentlessly running at the Brighton defence, and his persistence paid off when he won the penalty that allowed Dominic Solanke to coolly open the scoring.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to the club’s official channel about his recent trophy-winning experience with Spurs, Tel said: “It was incredible. This trophy was crazy for the club, for the fans, for everybody else. I am very happy about it, we did it, we deserve it.”

Pressed on whether he had envisioned how special lifting silverware with Tottenham would feel, he added: “To be honest, I am playing football to win trophies so I believe in this team, in this club, and that is why we did it. I am very happy.”

Asked how much Spurs now means to him, Tel concluded: “Tottenham is a big family with the fans, with everybody else. Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us. We have to keep going and win more trophies.”

Mathys Tel’s Tottenham future remains uncertain

The Bayern Munich forward’s future remains unresolved, with Tottenham yet to trigger the £46 million option that was negotiated as part of Tel’s loan agreement.

The young Frenchman initially found it difficult to settle into life in north London, struggling to leave a real mark during the opening weeks of his spell.

However, over time, he has grown more assured in the Lilywhite shirt, showcasing improvements with each outing.

Daniel Levy sends long message to Tottenham fans after Europa League win, and he wants more trophies - Spurs Web
Description

Four days on from Tottenham’s historic Europa League success, Daniel Levy has finally broken his silence, with the Spurs chairman insisting that the club could not have achieved what they did without the fans backing them through thick and thin.

It has been 17 years since Spurs last lifted silverware and with each passing year, the pressure continued to build on Levy.

The Tottenham chairman has tried almost everything to get over the line, including hiring managers with a history of winning trophies, and a spate of different directors of football who arrived with their own ideas.

Many held the 63-year-old responsible for the club’s failure to get over the line, with Spurs fans even protesting in the thousands asking for Levy to leave earlier this season.

The Tottenham supremo can now finally breathe a sigh of relief after the club secured what was only their second trophy in his over two-decade-long tenure as chairman.

Levy insists he never stopped believing

As is the tradition at Tottenham, Daniel Levy sent a message to the supporters ahead of the club’s final game of the season against Brighton.

The Spurs chairman reflected on the huge achievement that Ange Posetecoglou and the players have pulled off, insisting he never stopped believing that success was around the corner even though the club had struggled to get over the line repeatedly.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Levy wrote (via Tottenham’s official website): “Dear all, We did it. What an unforgettable night it was in Bilbao as we ended our long wait for glory. This is a huge moment for the whole Club, a historic achievement that sees us lift our first European trophy since 1984.

“This Club has been on an incredible journey on and off the pitch since we last won silverware, the League Cup, in 2008 – establishing ourselves as one of the biggest in Europe, moving into our new stadium and experiencing some incredible moments – we knew a trophy was the missing piece.

“We’ve come so close on a number of occasions and never quite got over the line – I have never wavered from the belief that success is just around the corner. I’d like to thank Ange and the players for making this incredible achievement possible and thanks to all of our amazing staff – there is so much hard work that goes on behind the scenes and this moment is for everyone to enjoy.

“I’d also like to thank you – the fans – for staying with us and carrying that same belief. I know it’s been hard at times and I have shared in that pain and frustration along the way. But when we all come together, we know we can achieve something special. Your support – whether that was in Bilbao, in our own stadium or in pubs and homes around the world – was the driving force behind our team.

“This is one trophy – our clear ambition as a Club has always been long-term, sustained success, competing for top honours every year. We have now tasted success and we are determined to use this as a springboard for more. Let’s enjoy this moment as a Club together, finish the season strong with a win today and go again next year. Most of all, be proud. Come on you Spurs!”

Why Daniel Levy deserves credit from Tottenham fans

Given that Tottenham’s results in the Premier League were going from bad to worse over the last few months, there would have been a huge temptation to sack Postecoglou.

In fact, it felt like the majority of the fan base wanted to see the back of the Australian at one point. However, Levy held his nerve and decided to allow the 59-year-old to have a shot at the Europa League trophy, which has proven to be the right call.

The Spurs chairman has rightly come under heavy criticism over the last few years for some of his missteps and he now deserves credit for the way he has handled the Postecoglou situation.

Match Report: Tottenham 1-4 Brighton - Spurs fans celebrate despite 22nd defeat of the season - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur end their 2024/25 campaign with a 1-4 defeat to Brighton. Despite leading at half-time, Spurs conceded four in the second half, sealing a season that saw the Lilywhites suffer twice as many defeats as wins.

Many Spurs fans will tell themselves this was a meaningless game, that it didn’t matter after the Europa League glory. But deep down, they would’ve wanted to finish this bitter season on a high, especially with a trophy presentation waiting post-match. It would’ve tasted sweeter after a win.

It’s been a busy few days since that night in Bilbao. The celebrations, the flight home, more celebrations and then the parade. You’d almost forget there was a Premier League fixture squeezed in three days later.

As for the starting XI, Ange Postecoglou just managed to pick 11 players who weren’t hungover. It was largely the same team that started the final. Only Cristian Romero, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison dropped out, replaced by Kevin Danso, Archie Gray and Mathys Tel.

First half: Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Brighton

N17 was in party mode, the Europa League trophy was in the building, the fans were loud, and the players just needed to feed off that energy.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brighton, though, had the first warning shot through Adingra, who fired well wide after being released by Minteh early on. Spurs responded with an awkward yet successful passage between Brennan Johnson and Archie Gray, but the youngster lost control on the edge of the Brighton box.

Tottenham nearly opened the scoring from a superb Tel corner that only needed a touch from Micky van de Ven or Dominic Solanke. However, neither could do that.

Tel then curled one towards the far post, only for Van Hecke to block it. Mats Wieffer, on the other end, went close for Brighton soon after, before Spurs took the lead.

Mathys Tel was heavily involved in the opening quarter and looked the most dangerous player on the pitch. His threat eventually earned Spurs a penalty after he was fouled by Wieffer inside the box. Dominic Solanke stepped up and calmly slotted the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. 1-0 to Spurs.

Rodrigo Bentancur ran the show in midfield. From spotting Tel’s runs to playing perfect passes under pressure, he looked like the pre-ACL injury Bentancur we missed.

Hinshelwood tested Guglielmo Vicario with a strong header at the half-hour mark, but the Italian was equal to it. Tel had a golden opportunity to double the lead before half time after being fed brilliantly by Pedro Porro on a counter, but Verbruggen denied his weak left footed shot.

Statistically, Spurs were in control: an xG of 1.47 to Brighton’s 0.36 summed up the half. A good half of football so far.

Second half: Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 Brighton

The last time Spurs led Brighton at half-time, it didn’t end well. This one? Even worse.

Just five minutes after the restart, a corner caused chaos in the box. The ball bounced off Solanke and fell to Hinshelwood, who lashed it into the roof of the net. 1-1.

Gruda and Gomez nearly made it 2-1, hardly two minutes later, only to be denied by Vicario. Spurs then almost regained the lead through a sweeping counter. Tel made an impressive run down the left and squared it to Brennan Johnson, but the Welshman’s finish scuffed wide.

With the score tied and European football at stake for the Seagulls, it had become a very congested Spurs box for a good 15 minutes. A couple of chances fell for Brighton amidst all that as Vicario made a stunning save from Minteh, which was destined for the roof of the net. Then Baleba hit the left-hand post with a powerful low shot from distance.

And then, another corner and another goal. Spurs didn’t clear their lines, and Hinshelwood was again the man on the spot, this time backheeling past Vicario. 1-2.

With the lead, the Seagulls went quiet for 15 minutes before having another chance; again, from a corner. Gomez made contact, but Vicario saved it well.

Brighton’s third eventually arrived, via a penalty. Udogie was caught too high up the pitch, winger Djed Spence was jogging back, and Bissouma, who was trying to cover, brought down Gomez. You couldn’t blame him. Matt O’Riley stepped up and buried it.

Any hope of a comeback vanished in stoppage time. Mitoma teed up Diego Gomez, who curled in an insane finish from range. It was 1-4, and yet the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sang “Oh when the Spurs go marching in”. They knew it was never about this match.

FT: TOTTENHAM 1-4 BRIGHTON

Spurs Web man of the match: Rodrigo Bentancur

What’s next for the champions of Europe?

It’s fair to say, it’s very ironic that the Champions League and the Championship are separated by just one place. But that’s what makes this season special for Spurs fans: four clubs below the third position battled their hearts out today for Champions League spots, while a certain club enjoys the same privilege while sat at 17th.

That’s football.

With this rollercoaster of a season now come to an end, it’s time to reassess this entire season. It’s hard to really point out why Ange Postecoglou’s men aren’t able to play in the Premier League the same way they play in cup football.

Yes, without a doubt, he deserves another season, and probably with a really good summer transfer window, upgrading the medical team (equally important) and getting a few set-piece experts on board, it would be hard to see them not do well next season.

Until then, enjoy your summers without those trophyless memes and get used to hearing the UCL anthem. COYS.

Five players Tottenham should offer new contracts after Europa League glory

Five players Tottenham should offer new contracts after Europa League glory - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to sign new players in the summer transfer window, but holding onto current players is just as important.

Not every Tottenham player has covered himself in glory this season, but every man did his job on Wednesday to secure the Europa League for the third time in the club’s history.

The upcoming transfer window provides an opportunity to add depth and stability to the Tottenham first-team squad. While this is important, Spurs must also do everything possible to keep hold of their star players.

Here are five players Tottenham should attempt to tie down to a new contract

Tottenham open new contract talks with Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur has not had a straightforward season. In November, he was banned by the FA for seven matches after making an inappropriate joke about his captain Heung-min Son. Since then, not all his performances have reached the heights expected of him.

However, Bentancur really stepped up in recent weeks and played an important role in Tottenham’s recent European success. He may not be the flashiest player, but he has been a reliable figure in the centre of the pitch for the three and a half seasons he has spent in North London.

It is possible Spurs will look for a replacement instead. Angel Gomes has recently been linked with Tottenham, and he is a similar type of player to the Uruguayan. A decision on his future must be made soon because he only has a year remaining on his contract.

It has already been reported that Tottenham Hotspur have opened new contract talks with Bentancur.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Yves Bissouma may have saved his Tottenham career

Not long ago, putting Yves Bissouma on a list of players who should be given a new contract would be a surprise. Despite arriving from Brighton as a proven player in the Premier League, many of his performances have been underwhelming. However, like Bentancur, he has stepped up in recent weeks.

It is hard to argue against giving the Malian a new contract after his display in Tottenham’s Europa League final. He was simply brilliant, winning seven duels and making four tackles and providing defensive cover when it was needed.

Consistency is Bissouma’s biggest problem. When he is at his best, his physical presence and play on the ball in midfield make him a great player to have. He also only has a year left on his Tottenham contract and losing him on the cheap would be poor business.

Cristian Romero has been linked with a Tottenham exit

A couple of weeks ago it looked almost certain that Cristian Romero was going to leave Tottenham. Atletico Madrid have already taken steps to sign Romero and he would be the perfect type of player for a manager like Diego Simeone.

The Argentine has not had an easy season with injuries, and truth be told, he has surprisingly played a few stinkers. However, like his teammates named above, Romero has upped his game recently. He stepped up as the captain in Bilbao and played his part in Tottenham keeping a clean sheet.

Romero has shown he is one of Europe’s top defenders since arriving at Hotspur Way and he has impressed at international level too. If he wants to stay at the club, getting him on a new contract should be Tottenham’s number one priority.

Mikey Moore needs to be tied down at Spurs

This one is a no-brainer, with Moore’s current contract set to expire in two years. The 17-year-old’s time on the pitch has been limited, but he is clearly a talented player.

There will be no question in anyone’s mind that Moore is good enough to the point that selling him would be inconceivable. Tying him down to a long-term contract should be done as soon as possible. A decision must then be made on whether it would be better to keep him next season or send him out on loan so he can get first-team opportunities.

It has been rumoured that Tottenham are already trying to tie Mikey Moore down to a new contract.

Pedro Porro will attract transfer interest

Of all the players whose contracts expire in three years, Pedro Porro is the one who looks most likely to leave Spurs. Manchester City are one of a few teams to have shown an interest in signing Porro and the player himself seemed flattered when he found out Real Madrid were keeping an eye on him.

Some of Porro’s performances this season have been baffling, due to his ludicrous positioning, which left his side of defence completely exposed. However, on his day, he is a solid defender, and he has a good creative spark which is useful to have in a full-back. Ivan Perisic was the only Spurs player in recent memory to be as good a crosser of the ball as Porro.

Why not Heung-min Son and Richarlison?

Heung-min Son’s extended deal will expire next summer, while Richarlison will be out of contract in two years. Son is a Tottenham legend, but he has lacked the forward drive this season that he has shown in times past. He is at the top of the club’s wage list, so offering him a new contract out of respect for his service over the years is not a good business decision.

Of course, if Ange Postecoglou still sees him as a long-term option, Spurs should consider renewing his contract. In fairness, he is tied with James Maddison as Tottenham’s top goal contributor in the Premier League this season.

Then there is Richarlison, who started in the Europa League final and is quite an underrated player at Spurs. However, he will be 30 when his current contract ends and he is an injury-prone player. A decision to keep him at the club long-term would be perfectly fine, but it could be better to look for a younger alternative.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to land a long-term target on a free transfer, and the club believe their European pedigree might just give them the edge.

Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring Angel Gomes for quite some time, with the 24-year-old set to become a free agent in the coming weeks.

Reports have placed Spurs as frontrunners to land Gomes, with various outlets suggesting Spurs are confident of winning the race for Lille man’s signature.

Gomes himself has handed Tottenham a timely boost after confirming on social media that he will not be extending his stay at Lille, instead exploring new options as his contract runs down.

Tottenham confident of free transfer move for Angel Gomes

GIVEMESPORT are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are confident of securing the services of the English midfielder this summer.

However, it has been stated that Daniel Levy and his recruitment team will need to remain patient, with Gomes still weighing up his next move before making a final decision.

Having secured UEFA Champions League football following their recent UEFA Europa League final victory, Spurs believe their return to Europe’s premier competition significantly strengthens their case to land the soon-to-be free agent.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites will now need to play the waiting game, hopeful that the groundwork already laid will be enough to convince Angel Gomes to make the move to Hotspur Way.

Spurs face competition from Marseille and Premier League rivals

Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of the Lille midfielder, with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Everton all reportedly keen on Angel Gomes this summer.

However, GIVEMESPORT have stated that French outfit Marseille may prove to be Tottenham’s most serious competitors in the race for the former Manchester United man’s signature.

Tottenham Hotspur could land long-time target Marc Guehi for a cut-price fee this summer after securing a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Marc Guehi has been long-standing, with the Lilywhites making a bid for the Crystal Palace defender on the winter deadline day.

It was a £70 million bid which was swiftly rejected by the Eagles, but Spurs could come sniffing around once more this summer.

The Lilywhites are champions of Europe after they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League, and with the club guaranteed a place in the Champions League next season, it is expected that they will be busy in the transfer market this summer.

Tottenham confident of Marc Guehi deal after Europa League triumph

GIVEMESPORT is now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are confident that securing Champions League qualification has boosted their chances of landing Marc Guehi this summer.

It has been revealed that while Spurs are confident of securing the services of the Englishman, Guehi is also open to completing a switch to Hotspur Way if it becomes clear that Crystal Palace are prepared to sanction his departure.

The Crystal Palace centre-back has certainly enjoyed his time at Selhurst Park, having been part of the FA Cup-winning squad that delivered silverware to the London-based club, but with his contract expected to run down in 12 months, his future could lie elsewhere.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Crystal Palace stance could help Spurs land Guehi

It is also stated by the outlet that Crystal Palace do not want to let Marc Guehi run down his contract and leave as a free agent next summer.

Instead, they are open to cashing in on the defender; however, if Tottenham are to land him, the Lilywhites would do so for a cut-price, with £50 million the figure being floated around, which is significantly less than what was offered in January.

While Tottenham are confident of landing the centre-back, there are other suitors, with Newcastle United, Chelsea and Liverpool all said to be keeping tabs on the England international.

Description

Tottenham have cashed in big time from their Europa League campaign, and the figures behind it reveal just how much their run to the title in Bilbao was worth.

Tottenham Hotspur are champions of Europe following their 1-0 win against Manchester United in the final of the Europa League in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.

It was Brennan Johnson’s late first-half strike that gave Tottenham the lead, one that they defended valiantly with Micky van de Ven’s heroics helping to keep the scoreline in Tottenham’s favour, and saves from Guglielmo Vicario also helping to seal the deal.

Spurs would play in next season’s UEFA Champions League following their Europa League triumph, with their transfer funds also set to be bolstered.

Tottenham earnings from Europa League revealed after win against Manchester United

We revealed after Tottenham’s win in Spain that they had received £10.95 million for winning the Europa League, and given the £18.8 million the Lilywhites had earned before the final, Spurs took home a total of £29.75 million for their exploits in Europe.

However, data from UEFA has now laid out a more detailed breakdown of the club’s earnings from the group stage through to lifting the trophy.

Tottenham were guaranteed £3.6 million for participating in the competition, and in addition to this base fee, the club benefited from the governing body’s new value pillar system, which allocates payments based on coefficient rankings and market pool value, split between European and non-European shares.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Each win in the league phase earned £379,000 and each draw £126,000, with Spurs pocketing just over £2.1 million from five wins and two draws in eight matches.

Furthermore, Tottenham banked £1.5 million for reaching the round of 16 automatically and another £505,000 for finishing in the top eight.

Spurs pocket additional prize money and Super Cup windfall

UEFA’s distribution model also includes additional payments for clubs based on their final position in the league phase, and with Tottenham finishing fourth, they earned an extra £2.1 million from this metric alone.

Their progress through the knockout rounds, all the way to the final, earned the club another £11.5 million, with the win over Manchester United itself netting a further £5.1 million.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have now earned approximately £38.7 million in total prize money from the Europa League, factoring in both the standard competition earnings and the value pillar system.
