Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Wycombe Wanderers - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur played out a 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way on Saturday morning in their first match of a rare pre-season double header.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from the game:

Three at the back in the build-up for Tottenham

We got another interesting glimpse into Thomas Frank’s new Tottenham system this morning against Wycombe Wanderers. Although, on paper, the formation is a 4-2-3-1, that is not always the case in the build-up. Particularly today, we saw Ben Davies tuck in off the left-hand side to create a back three when Tottenham were building attacks, shifting alongside Cristian Romero and Luka Vuskovic. This freed up Pedro Porro to roam further forward.

It all comes back to Frank’s old saying: “You need to take risks, otherwise you also take risks.” The change in shape during build-ups will certainly lead to overloads and goals for Tottenham Hotspur, but they may be caught on the break with such a narrow back three at times.

Pedro Porro post-Postecoglou

Pedro Porro’s role this morning was one of the most interesting on the pitch. With the back three in the build-up, you would assume that Porro would then push high and wide to create width and an overload at the back post. The Spaniard certainly did that at times, but he more often popped up in central roles in the final third. It was a real throwback to the early inverted days under Ange Postecoglou when Porro and Destiny Udogie almost played as number 10s.

I wonder whether Thomas Frank is fashioning a very specific role for Porro this season due to his immense creative ability. It was also interesting to see the fluid relationship between Porro and Wilson Odobert on the right side, with the duo constantly swapping between wide runner and inverted creator.

Luka Vuskovic looks ready for Tottenham

It can be easy to make wild and early conclusions from pre-season football. However, regardless of the goal against Reading or the performance against Wycombe, Luka Vuskovic looks ready for the set-up. Despite still being a teenager, he seems to have the calm head required for a Premier League club, and hasn’t looked out of place for a second alongside the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven. He looks comfortable in possession, positive with his passing, and reads the game really nicely for one so young.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Unfortunately, there is one major hurdle in his way – competition. Tottenham look unlikely to sell Radu Dragusin this summer, which means Vuskovic has Romero, Van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Dragusin, and Ben Davies to compete with for two spots. The simple truth is that he probably won’t get enough game time to elevate his development to the next level, which is why Spurs may opt for a loan instead.

Pape Sarr in the number 10 role

There wasn’t much to write home about regarding Pape Sarr’s performance itself, beyond scoring the tap-in rebound to make it 1-0 and producing a nice touch and finish to make it 2-2. So, how did he managed to score a brace without completely running the show? It was Sarr’s position that was extremely interesting today, rather than necessarily the man who occupied it.

Playing in the number 10 role, which you expect will eventually be occupied by the likes of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, or hopefully Morgan Gibbs-White, Sarr functioned more as a second forward than a midfielder. The Senegal star was seen right up alongside Richarlison more often than not, and even made runs past the Tottenham number nine to stretch the defence. Whoever occupies this role for Tottenham in the first team is going to need to be full of running and clinical in front of goal.

Wilson Odobert was Tottenham’s Man of the Match

One would have expected Wilson Odobert to look a little sloppy today. After all, this is his first pre-season match following his involvement in the U21 European Championships. However, the Frenchman was arguably Tottenham’s most dangerous player. He developed a fantastic understanding with Pedro Porro on the right side, dovetailing as both a wide winger and an inverted number ten to great effect.

Out wide, he latched onto multiple pinpoint passes behind the lines from Porro, before delivering some dangerous crosses. When cutting inside, he looked a creative outlet and a very real goal threat, as evidenced by his sharp turn and shot that led to Tottenham’s opening goal. Thomas Frank is known for developing inverted right-wingers into goalscoring machines, so Odobert could be a player to keep an eye on.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur played out a 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers this morning as Thomas Frank handed 60 minutes to some of his first-team stars.

Tottenham player ratings vs Wycombe Wanderers

Brandon Austin – 3 – Made an absolute blunder for Wycombe’s first goal, despite the shot being straight at him. Not what he wanted from a rare Tottenham start.

Pedro Porro – 7.5 – A real creative outlet for Tottenham today. With Frank using a back three in the build-up, Porro was given freedom to roam, both out wide and into an inverted role. The Spaniard threaded some really nice balls in behind the Wycombe defence for Odobert to chase.

Luka Vuskovic – 6.5 – Could have got a little tighter in the build-up to Wycombe’s second goal. That being said, he generally reads the game really well and seems to match Romero’s front-footed style nicely. Very positive with his passing and progressive play in the build-up.

Cristian Romero – 6 – A heart-in-mouth moment when Romero seemed to swing an elbow at his opponent, but the Spurs star got away with it. Up until then, Romero had been quite reserved, getting on with his defending in his usual front-footed style. Once again, his progressive passing through the lines remains extremely underrated.

Ben Davies – 4 – Davies was far too easy to skip past as Wycombe cut in off the right to score their first goal. However, with Frank using a back three in the build-up, Davies could be a useful utility player, with vast experience in that kind of hybrid role. The position should also really suit Micky Van de Ven.

George Abbott – 7 – You can see why Tottenham rate this kid so highly. Abbott was full of pressing and running, particularly impressing in the second half when others tired. He reads play expertly in the middle of the pitch and makes interceptions look like the easiest thing in the world. Spurs need to get Abbott a good loan further up the EPL this season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lucas Bergvall – 7 – Looked so comfortable and assured in the centre of the pitch. With youngsters coming off the bench, Bergvall actually presents himself as one of the senior stars now. Created some really nice time and space with his drops of the shoulder and perhaps puts his name in the hat for some minutes in the number six role this season.

Pape Matar Sarr – 8 – Tottenham’s new goalscoring threat. Pape Sarr played as a number 10 this morning, but he spent most of his time either alongside or beyond the striker. Tapped home a rebound from Odobert’s shot to open the scoring, then equalised at 2-2 with a nice touch and finish in the box. Sarr wasn’t involved too much in the first half but came into his own with his relentless running in the second 45 when others tired.

Wilson Odobert – 8 – Tottenham’s most impressive player on the day, despite only playing 60 minutes. Odobert was a bright spark in his first pre-season match, full of running out wide down the right wing, but also a danger man when inverted into more of a number ten role. He created Spurs’ opening goal with a sharp turn and shot, which then rebounded for Sarr to tap home. Looks like he could be a good fit for Thomas Frank.

Richarlison – 5 – It wasn’t Richarlison’s day. Beyond mistiming a good headed chance, the Brazilian barely got a look in. A couple of nice hold-up play moments, but that was about it from Richy. He came off at the 60-minute mark as Tottenham look to build up his fitness slowly.

Heung-min Son – 5 – Not up to his best this morning. Sonny made every effort to take defenders on, but he still seems to be finding his sharpness in pre-season. Ballooned one shot over the bar early and had a few others blocked. He looked at his best when flashing the ball across the box for others to come on to.

Substitutes:

Oliver Irow – 5 – Came on for Richarlison with 30 minutes to go.

Tynan Thompson – 7 – The 17-year-old came off the bench for Wilson Odobert and instantly announced himself in a Spurs shirt by assisting Pape Sarr. Thompson turned out to be one of the stars of the show in the second half. A real livewire!

Ellis Lehane – N/A

Callum Olusesi – N/A

Pele Arganese-McDermott – N/A

Yusuf Akhamrich – N/A

Dante Cassanova – N/A

Luca Williams-Barnett – N/A

Tyrese Hall – N/A

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed what Yoane Wissa is expected to do after Tottenham Hotspur signalled an interest in signing him this summer.

While a number of reports backed Tottenham to press ahead with a move for Wissa earlier this month, the rumours linking the 28-year-old with a move to N7 have gone quiet over the last weeks.

Plenty of outlets are now reporting that Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in Wissa, while some sources have indicated that Wissa is no longer seen as a priority by Spurs.

In fact, earlier this week, Newcastle even reportedly had a £25m bid for Wissa rejected by Brentford, and now, we have heard what the DR Congo international is thinking about his future.

Yoane Wissa has informed Brentford that he wants to leave

Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the centre-forward is keen on tasting Champions League football next season and believes that opportunity may never come again if he does not make a switch to either Newcastle or Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The former Lorient man does not plan on going on strike, but he has informed his employers that he wants a new challenge.

Jacobs said on the Market Madness podcast: “So Wissa has made it clear to Brentford he wants to leave. Brentford want Wissa to sign a new deal. So there is a big gulf in each side’s position.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“But instead of agitating for a move or going on strike like Gyokeres did, Wissa has to speak to the Brentford hierarchy.

“And my understanding is that he will say very clearly that he would like to leave because he feels at his age, this is his last opportunity to go and play Champions League football. And both Spurs and Newcastle have that and can offer it to him imminently.”

Wissa prefers a Tottenham move over Newcastle

According to various updates over the past week, Wissa is expected to favour a move to Spurs ahead of Newcastle if both clubs make offers.

However, that does not mean he will turn down a move to the Magpies, with Greame Bailey revealing on Wednesday that Wissa is also in favour of a switch to St James’ Park.

Tottenham half-time ratings vs Wycombe as 8/10 attacker shines on his pre-season return - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their Saturday pre-season double header with a friendly against Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way this morning, and the half-time whistle has now been blown. Let’s take a look at our Tottenham player ratings from the first 45.

Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Wycombe Wanderers

Brandon Austin – 3 – A shock inclusion in the starting XI with all the talk around Guglielmo Vicario vs Antonin Kinsky this week. Absolute howler to let Wycombe score their first shot on target. Went to collect the ball and let it straight through his body.

Pedro Porro – 7.5 – Porro was on free-kicks today with no James Maddison in the side. Played some really nice threaded passes down the right wing for Odobert. Still seems to be inverting a lot into attacking positions, even post-Postecoglou.

Luka Vuskovic – 7 – Started on the right side of the two central defenders. Looked extremely comfortable on the ball and positive in his passing. In fact, the Spurs coaches could be heard urging Tottenham to cycle the ball over to him at times. Looks wise beyond his years.

Cristian Romero – 6 – A steady performance from the Tottenham vice-captain. Front-footed defending as normal, while positive in his progressive passing. Seemed to take to the role of a calming presence next to the young Vuskovic – not a usual state of mind for Romero.

Ben Davies – 4 – Started on the left of a back four, but tucked in and made it a three in the build-up. This left-back/left-centre-back hybrid is arguably Davies’ best position. He was beaten way too easy with a cut inside off the Wycombe right wing when Spurs conceded. It will be interesting to see if Thomas Frank keeps the utility man around beyond the summer.

George Abbott – 6 – Replaced Rodrigo Bentancur in the starting XI at late notice. Persistent and relentless in his pressing, and always positive in his passing. Abbott was always on the lookout for a big switch over to captain Sonny. You can see why many within Tottenham rate him highly. Steady performance.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lucas Bergvall – 7 – He may be coming off the back of an injury, but Bergvall looked incredibly sharp in the centre of the pitch. Some lovely drops of the shoulder to create space for creativity. Looks to be growing more confidently into a senior midfield role at Spurs.

Pape Sarr – 6.5 – Opened the scoring with a tap-in rebound. Did well to follow the shot in and react faster than anyone else. Played really high up the pitch, more as a centre-forward alongside Richarlison than a central midfielder.

Wilson Odobert – 8 – Created the opening goal with a sharp turn and shot on the edge of the box, with Pape Sarr tapping home the rebound. Even before that moment, Odobert had looked a real outlet down the right wing. The Frenchman was Tottenham’s most dangerous player by far in the first 45.

Richarlison – 5.5 – A quiet half of football from Richarlison. A few nice moments of hold-up play, but he struggled to get himself into the game, despite Tottenham having a fair bit of the ball in the final third. Wasted his one clear chance at goal with a mistimed header.

Tottenham discussed making an improved offer for Morgan Gibbs-White

Tottenham discussed making an improved offer for Morgan Gibbs-White - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur held talks over making an offer of over £60m for Morgan Gibbs-White in an attempt to push through his transfer to North London.

Nottingham Forest are continuing to fight to stop Tottenham from landing Gibbs-White for £60m after the Lilywhites met his release clause two weeks ago.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson believes that Spurs now need to pay more than £60m to land Gibbs-White after Forest accused them of making an illegal approach to the player.

Borson explained that this was because Tottenham Hotspur may have to compensate the Midlands club for the fee that they missed out on due to the alleged breach of confidentiality.

Improved offer for Morgan Gibbs-White may not be enough for Tottenham

The Daily Mail have now claimed that Forest were prepared to sell the midfielder at the start of the summer, but they are unhappy with how Tottenham handled themselves.

The report claims that the Lilywhites held discussions over submitting a second £65m offer for Gibbs-White, although no such bid ever arrived at the City Ground.

However, the outlet adds that there is a lack of clarity on how Forest would respond to a second offer and whether a £65m bid would even be enough for Spurs to clinch the deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Why Spurs may be hesitating to make a second offer

According to reports, the North London club do not think they did anything illegal in this transfer saga.

It has been revealed that Tottenham feel their activation of Gibbs-White’s release clause was legitimate, and expect the deal to get done eventually.

Mikey Moore makes big decision on Tottenham future but Thomas Frank has the final call

Mikey Moore makes big decision on Tottenham future but Thomas Frank has the final call - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is expected to make a decisive call on Mikey Moore’s immediate future, as Champions League clubs circle for the highly-rated teenager.

Mikey Moore has been attracting loads of interest from sides across Europe this summer window following a breakthrough spell at Tottenham last campaign, where he played 19 times in the first team squad, the most in his career thus far.

Borussia Dortmund have shown interest in Moore, and it is understood that the German side are weighing up whether or not to put in a bid for the 17-year-old.

Juventus are also big admirers of Mikey Moore, and it is said that the Italian side want to use Damien Comolli’s links with Tottenham to lure Moore to Turin.

Thomas Frank to decide on Mikey Moore loan move at Tottenham

Football.London has now shared an update on the future of Mikey Moore this summer, following a host of interest from sides in the Champions League.

It is understood that Thomas Frank is set to decide on whether Mikey Moore heads out on loan from Tottenham this season. Moore himself wants week-in, week-out football this season. In fact, the Spurs youngster is said to be ‘keen for a loan move’ this season in order to aid his professional development.

Despite interest from clubs in his services, previous reports have also stated that Tottenham are looking to hand Moore a new contract this summer, in a bid to keep him at N17.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Moore may struggle to climb his way up the pecking order

Moore has already featured in Spurs’ first pre-season clash against Reading, playing the first 45 minutes as an inside forward from the left.

Tottenham have not loaned Moore out since he walked his way through the ranks at Hotspur Way, featuring for the first time in the Premier League at 16 years, nine months and three days, the youngest ever player to play for Spurs in the Premier League.

However, for the teenager to continue his development, a decision has to be made as to whether he can get enough gametime playing at Tottenham in his preferred position.

Right now, Spurs have James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, and Dejan Kulusevski as options in the number ten role, with the likelihood of Morgan Gibbs-White joining the mix if his transfer situation is resolved.

On the wing, Tottenham have the likes of Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Heung-min Son, Brennan Johnson, Kudus, Kulusevski and more.

This only leaves question marks over whether Moore would be handed enough minutes this season at Tottenham under Thomas Frank.

Guglielmo Vicario vs Antonin Kinsky in the fight for Tottenham’s number one spot

Guglielmo Vicario vs Antonin Kinsky in the fight for Tottenham’s number one spot - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank must choose between Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky as his Tottenham number one – and it may not be as straightforward as many think.

One big upside about a new manager walking through the door at a club is that most players have a chance of staking their case for a starting role.

That could very much be the case at Tottenham Hotspur, particularly in the goalkeeping department, where Spurs have two really good options in Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky.

Thus far, under new boss Thomas Frank, both goalkeepers have played 45 minutes respectively, and both have managed to keep clean sheets.

However, while Vicario has been the recognised first choice for a while now, he is not without his flaws, and Kinsky could very much look to push for the number one spot. Let us see which one of these two options Frank would most likely opt for.

Guglielmo Vicario’s strengths as Tottenham goalkeeper

Of course, while Thomas Frank would be looking to stamp his mark on this Tottenham team, the Danish manager would want to do so with some caution so as not to disrupt the dressing room dynamics.

Guglielmo Vicario is a big part of the Tottenham dressing room and is one of the leaders in the squad. That very attribute carries on to the field of play, as Vic is constantly on the necks of his defenders, barking and screaming out instructions which help to keep them alert.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Indeed, this quality often comes with experience, and with Vicario currently 28 and the shot stopper for the Italian national team, it comes as no surprise that he is one of the vocal players in defence.

While his leadership is a big pro, Vicario also has some other standout attributes in his game. He is a solid shot stopper, having a save percentage of 64.8% in the Premier League.

Vicario also conceded 37 goals from 24 appearances, while also preventing 0.6 goals, the highest in the league being 6.2 by Jordan Pickford.

However, while the Italian has these great attributes, he is not without his flaws and during his time at Tottenham, some of them have been a constant.

Guglielmo Vicario’s weaknesses as Spurs goalkeeper

First off, Vicario is not the greatest aerially. He tends to make a hash of crosses in the box, be it from set plays, corners or just general play.

It almost seems like you do not know what to expect with him in those moments. In fact, even in the Europa League final, Vicario’s inability to command his area during set plays came to the fore when he made a hash of a cross in the box, which could have seen Manchester United draw level if not for a Micky van de Ven acrobatic clearance.

Additionally, during the tail end of last season, during the final five games in the League, it was mistake after mistake from the 28-year-old; mistakes ranging from poor shot-stopping decisions to poor handling of crosses.

Tottenham fans even began to call for the Italian’s understudy, Antonin Kinsky, to be given a chance in games during the run-in.

Tottenham may have a gem in Antonin Kinsky

Of course, Tottenham are lucky to have two great goalkeepers, and Vicario’s understudy has shown he is a very talented man.

Kinsky’s debut match against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup last season was one of the best debut performances from a new signing, and that, of course, gave us a glimpse of what the Czech international is about.

Kinsky played all 90 minutes and made six crucial saves, ensuring he kept a clean sheet against Liverpool’s outstanding attack, preventing 1.23 goals.

His composure with the ball was equally impressive, as he completed 32 out of 45 passes with a 71% accuracy rate.

Breaking down his defensive contributions, Kinsky made four saves from shots taken inside the box, acted as a sweeper on one occasion, completed 12 recoveries and had 58 touches of the ball.

Right in those statistics lies the pros of Kinsky – a young shot stopper with huge potential that can grow to become one of the best in his position.

He single-handedly won Tottenham that Carabao Cup tie, which is the hallmark of a top goalkeeper.

He is good at shot-stopping, playing out from the back, and he can act as a sweeper keeper – hallmarks of modern goalkeepers.

However, while these are great, Kinsky is not without his flaws. He also lacks consistency, as he is prone to errors, and his shot-stopping is not yet at the level of that of Vicario.

In the FA Cup tie against Aston Villa last season, Kinsky’s poor decision in goal ultimately led to Tottenham conceding.

But with the goalkeeper still young, there is room for improvement, and he will only get better. However, if he is to improve, game time is needed, and Frank has a decision to make.

Who should start for Spurs – Guglielmo Vicario or Antonin Kinsky?

At the moment, given Vicario’s leadership trait at the back and his better edge when it comes to shot-stopping, despite his flaws, it makes sense for Thomas Frank to stick with the Italian.

However, the gap in quality between the two is not night and day, and Kinsky could very much rival Vicario for a starting spot.

The Czech international featured just ten times for Tottenham last season, and that could very much increase depending on how well Spurs do in all four competitions they are in.

The young shot stopper has not had any opportunity to play consistently as Tottenham’s number one, which is a role that comes with extra scrutiny.

Vicario has proven he can handle the pressure as he seems to bounce back more often than not, which gives him an edge. But Tottenham are not in a bad spot in that position of the pitch, which is a great bonus.

Three Tottenham players face make-or-break pre-season under Thomas Frank

Three Tottenham players face make-or-break pre-season under Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Three Tottenham players now face a crucial pre-season under Thomas Frank as their respective futures hang in the balance.

Tottenham Hotspur have been active in the transfer market ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with four new additions already through the door.

Two of those arrivals, Mohammed Kudus and Kota Takai, are completely new to life at N17, while the other two, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, had already spent the last six months on loan and have now joined permanently.

Tottenham are reportedly still in the market for more reinforcements, having even submitted a bid for Morgan Gibbs-White, although negotiations with Nottingham Forest have since slowed progress on that front.

However, while incomings have taken a back seat in recent weeks, departures have dominated the headlines, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Josh Keeley sold, and Ashley Phillips heading out on loan.

More exits are expected, and three players in particular – Richarlison, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine – now face a defining pre-season under new manager Thomas Frank.

Richarlison must prove his fitness to remain at Tottenham

There has been no shortage of speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur with new forward options this summer, with names such as Yoane Wissa, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Evann Guessand all floated, despite Richarlison still being part of the squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That in itself is a clear indication that Thomas Frank and the club hierarchy may not be fully convinced by the Brazilian as the primary backup option in attack heading into the new season.

To be fair to Richarlison, despite enduring an injury-hit season, he still managed five goals and two assists in just 942 minutes of action.

However, his availability remains a major concern, with the former Everton man missing a minimum of ten matches each season since joining Tottenham back in 2022, including a staggering 37 games last term alone.

Reports have linked Richarlison with a potential switch to Palmeiras or even a move to the Middle East. If the 28-year-old has any intentions of staying at Tottenham under Frank’s management, then this pre-season will be pivotal. His fitness levels must improve, and this tour could determine whether he still has a future at the club.

Alfie Devine must impress amid Millwall interest

Alfie Devine has progressed through the Tottenham ranks but has so far struggled to establish himself in the senior side, spending much of his career on various loan spells.

His most recent loan at Westerlo saw him make 32 appearances, scoring six goals and assisting once in the Belgian top flight – not a bad return for a developing midfielder.

Now back with the Tottenham squad, Thomas Frank has given Devine a small opportunity, granting him 45 minutes in the pre-season opener against Reading.

He operated in the number ten role and managed to create one big chance, although Dominic Solanke failed to convert it.

While it would be unfair to judge him on a single game, the remaining fixtures this summer are crucial if he hopes to stay at Spurs.

Championship side Millwall are reportedly interested in a permanent move for Devine, and even among sections of the Tottenham fanbase, there is an acceptance that Devine could be sold, with supporters already naming their ideal price tags.

Despite becoming the club’s youngest ever goal scorer in an FA Cup tie, and having just two senior appearances under his belt, Devine still has much to prove – particularly when your own fanbase would not be too bothered by your departure.

If the 20-year-old can have a standout pre-season campaign, then maybe he could force his way into the Tottenham senior squad.

Dane Scarlett is running out of time to prove himself at Tottenham

It has simply never clicked for Dane Scarlett, either in a Tottenham shirt or while out on loan, and that is a worrying sign for a player of his age and position.

He was not included in the squad that faced Reading in Tottenham’s opening pre-season match, even though Thomas Frank named two separate elevens on the day, not even making the bench.

Scarlett spent the first half of last season on loan at Oxford United, scoring four goals and registering one assist in the Championship.

He was recalled for the second half of the campaign and did manage to chip in with a goal and assist in the Europa League.

However, with persistent inconsistency in his performances, this summer now represents a last chance for the 21-year-old. Should he fail to impress, a permanent exit from Tottenham may be on the cards.

His redemption arc could begin this Saturday, when Tottenham face Wycombe behind closed doors at Hotspur Way. If he fails to feature, then the writing could pretty much be on the wall.

Mikel Arteta fires Premier League title warning as Tottenham look to rebuild under Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has set his eyes on winning the biggest trophies in the game with Tottenham Hotspur, and Mikel Arteta’s comments suggest that he would not be surprised if the Premier League has a surprising winner during the upcoming season.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown some ambition so far this transfer window, having completed the signings of Mathys Tel, Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus.

They are expected to spend even more cash, with Spurs confident of landing Morgan Gibbs-White in a £60m deal.

The Lilywhites are certainly setting their aims very high, with Daniel Levy admitting that Tottenham wants to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta does not think Tottenham’s title dreams are far-fetched

Last week, Thomas Frank insisted that he shares Levy’s ambitions of winning the Premier League, although the Dane admitted that Spurs are behind the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool at the moment.

However, Mikel Arteta believes that we could see an open title race next season, with the Gunners boss suggesting that as many as eight teams have the talent to win the Premier League.

When asked about Arsenal’s chances of winning the title, Arteta said (via The Metro): “Every year we have to see how things develop, but I see the right balance in terms of maturity, experience, youth, hunger – all these ingredients are there.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“The thing is, there are another six, seven, eight clubs in the league that have the right ingredients to win, and there is only going to be one winner. So we have to focus a lot on the things that we can control, that we can do, to achieve what we want at the end of the season.”

What would be a successful season for Spurs?

One can make the argument that expectations are high for Frank as he arrives on the back of Tottenham’s Europa League success.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that Spurs had the worst-ever Premier League season last term, losing 22 matches out of their 38.
