Description

Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture to sign a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, but convincing him to leave his current team could be a problem.

Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back, with Atletico Madrid looking to sign Cristian Romero. According to one report, Tottenham believe Kevin Danso can replace Romero. However, this does not mean Spurs will not seek to sign another central defender.

Tottenham will have more defensive options, as Luka Vuskovic links up with the Tottenham first-team squad. Also, Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington have returned from their loan moves at Stoke City and Aberdeen, respectively. However, the possibility of them starting as soon as next season is slim.

One option Spurs have considered as a new signing is Lazio defender Mario Gila. In April, Lazio were said to be willing to let Gila leave for a fee shy of £40m.

Tottenham continue pursuit of Mario Gila

According to Il Messaggero, as relayed by LaLazioSiamoNoi, Tottenham remain interested in signing Mario Gila, while Chelsea and PSG are also considering him.

Gila is aware of this interest and is indifferent about staying at Lazio. However, he has a good relationship with new manager Maurizio Sarri. Gila has confidence in Sarri and believes his return to the Serie A outfit could help him take a key step further in his development.

Therefore, Spurs may struggle to convince the 24-year-old to swap the Olimpico for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs transfer target Gila is a key player at Lazio

Gila has already made significant progress since making the switch from Real Madrid to Lazio three years ago. Last season, he made 43 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The centre-half is not afraid of getting stuck in. He picked up nine yellow cards in the league last season and the only Lazio player to average more tackles per game was Nicolo Rovella

Tottenham could sign Asia’s most expensive player – and he knows Heung-min Son well - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be offered the chance to sign a defender they have been interested in for a number of years this summer, and Heung-min Son knows him well.

The shortcomings of the Tottenham first-team squad were clear for all to see last season. Injuries across every area meant it was a rare sight for Ange Postecoglou to field a full-strength team and this had consequences, as Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League.

The centre of defence was a key problem for Tottenham and it showed. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were often unavailable, leading to Spurs having the fifth-worst defensive record in the league, conceding 65 goals.

To make things worse, Romero wants to leave Tottenham. If he leaves the club, signing a centre-back will be a priority. A new addition in this position would be Spurs’ second of the transfer window, as Kevin Danso made his Spurs move permanent when the window opened.

Tottenham could sign Kim Min-jae from Bayern Munich

According to TBR Football, Spurs could look to bring South Korean international Kim Min-jae to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The defender has been offered to the North London side, as well as other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

This is because Jonathan Tah has joined Bayern from Bayer Leverkusen, meaning one of Kim or Dayot Upamecano could leave the club. However, Upamecano could be about to sign a new contract, making Kim the more likely option to depart the Bundesliga champions.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Kim reportedly wants to play in the English top flight and contact has already been made with a number of clubs. Tottenham, along with Chelsea and Manchester United, have all been keeping an eye on Kim since before he joined Fenerbahce four years ago.

Bayern signed Kim from Napoli for £51 million, making him the most expensive Asian player in history. However, the German outfit could be willing to lose money on the 28-year-old if it means sealing his exit.

Kim Min-jae would be a good signing for Spurs on every front

Kim has played his part for Bayern this season, making 27 appearances and keeping nine clean sheets in the Bundesliga. He also appeared 13 times in the Champions League, as his side reached the quarter-finals, before being eliminated by eventual finalists Inter Milan.

He is not only a top player, but a favourable option for Daniel Levy due to his country of origin. Spurs have built up a huge Korean fanbase thanks to Heung-min Son, but his days at Spurs could be numbered, with his contract expiring next summer. Some supporters may remain loyal to Spurs even after their hero leaves, but there are no guarantees.

Tottenham signed Yang Min-hyeok last July, but he is unlikely to feature in the first team next season, having recently been on loan at QPR in the Championship. Whereas, Kim could go straight into Tottenham’s starting lineup. He would be a strong signing for the club for reasons both on and off the pitch.

Heung-min Son just set a five-figure record only Lionel Messi can beat - Spurs Web
Description

Heung-min Son has been one of the most important players at Tottenham Hotspur during the past decade, and now he has set a record only Lionel Messi can beat.

Son experienced a number of short-term injuries, which were disruptive and likely caused him to lose momentum. The foot injury he picked up in April meant he was only just back in action for the Europa League final. As a result, he only managed to appear as a substitute, after replacing Richarlison with 25 minutes left to play.

However, Son has performed at a high level over the years. He is a two-time player of the year at Tottenham, has won the Premier League Golden Boot, and is also a FIFA Puskas winner, after he dribbled past Burnley’s entire team and scored his greatest ever Spurs goal.

Son’s Europa League final shirt sells for more than £40k

Every Spurs supporter knows how much Son has done for the club and he has plenty of loyal followers. One of these was willing to break the bank to receive a signed, match-issued Son shirt from the Europa League final.

Match Worn Shirt auctioned the jersey, which was won by a South Korean Tottenham supporter, who, according to Vavel, spent an eye-watering £41,221 to secure their now prized possession.

This became the third most expensive item to ever be sold on the site. The only shirts to have sold for more belonged to Lionel Messi, with the most expensive costing £49,446.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Match winner Brennan Johnson’s shirt was also sold at auction, with some of the proceeds going to the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

Next season will be key for Heung-min Son’s Tottenham future

Tottenham extended Son’s contract at the beginning of the year. However, this only keeps him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until next summer. The past season was a difficult one for the club captain, but he still managed to statistically be one of Tottenham’s best attacking players.

With the Korean international turning 33 next month, his future lies in the balance, but if he is able to find his form next season, he may be given the chance to sign a new contract.

Tottenham urged to hijack big-money deal for Thomas Frank’s first signing - Spurs Web
Description

Jamie O’Hara has spoken about the impending arrival of Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur, and the pundit is desperate for Daniel Levy to deliver the main target that the Dane reportedly wants at Spurs.

Although an announcement from Spurs regarding their new head coach is yet to arrive, it appears an open secret that Frank is set to replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

It is fair to say that some initial scepticism from Tottenham Hotspur fans has now turned to excitement about what the Dane can potentially achieve, but the supporters will want to see Daniel Levy back his new head coach in the transfer window.

According to reports, Frank has asked Spurs to beat Man United to the signature of Bryan Mbeumo, who is expected to cost £60m.

However, some outlets have said that Tottenham are extremely unlikely to hijack the Mbeumo deal, even with Frank at the helm.

Jamie O’Hara believes Bryan Mbeumo would be a major coup for Tottenham

O’Hara has now admitted that he is very excited for the Brentford boss’s arrival at N17 and he is hoping to see the Lilywhites poach the Bees’ best players.

The former Spurs midfielder is especially keen to see Mbeumo at N17, opining that the Cameroon international would be a great addition to Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The pundit told talkSPORT: “I’m excited (about Frank). I think if he comes in and does a good job, he can nick a couple of players from Brentford. I’d take Mbeumo all day. I know he has said that he wants to go to Manchester United.

“But, that deal is not done yet. Maybe he has got on the phone with Thomas Frank, and maybe we can nick him. That would be a great signing.”

Thomas Frank may not raid Brentford for any players

However, a report on Tuesday from Football Insider contradicted what we have heard from other sources over recent days by claiming that Frank has no immediate plans to raid Brentford for any of their players.

The report asserted that Brentford may seek assurances from Spurs about not poaching their players should the North Londoners decide to haggle over Frank’s £10m buyout figure.

Australian government official makes bizarre Ange Postecoglou demand to Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

An elected Australian government official has now reacted to Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou and has given a bizarre piece of advice to Daniel Levy regarding what he now needs to do.

The decision to sack Postecoglou did not go down well with a lot of Spurs fans, with many feeling that the Australian had earned the right to build on his Europa League success.

However, with the dust now settling down and amidst reports that Tottenham are on the verge of hiring Thomas Frank, many are now excited about the new era under the Danish coach.

Back in Postecoglou’s home country, it does not seem like some are over the decision to get rid of the 59-year-old, with a government official now intervening to make a demand of the North London club.

Lord Mayor of Melbourne calls for Ange Postecoglou U-turn at Tottenham

The Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Nicholas Reece, has now given his two cents on Tottenham Hotspur’s decision, urging Daniel Levy to make a U-turn and continue with Postecoglou.

Reece insisted that the recently sacked Spurs boss is the man to deliver sustained success at N17, warning the Lilywhites that they will go back to struggling to win silverware without him at the helm.

The Lord Mayor wrote (via The Daily Mail): “On behalf of the people of Melbourne, and Premier League fans around the world, I call on Tottenham Hotspur FC to reconsider its decision to sack coach Ange Postecoglou.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“In @cityofmelbourne we have followed Ange’s career closely for decades. He began his junior and senior career in Melbourne as a player and later coach at @southmelbournefc in the 1980s. Never underestimate Ange’s determination to win, and his ability to carry teams to greatness. We have seen this time again over his career.

“This year Tottenham made history by winning the Europa League trophy – its first such win in 17 years. We will see further trophies follow if Ange is given the chance. Don’t let Tottenham be known as the team that is allergic to silverware. Let Ange lead the players onto greatness in next year’s Premier League campaign.”

Even Postecoglou will be embarrassed by this remark

Given the fact that Levy and the Tottenham board did not listen to the wishes of the majority of Spurs fans, it is laughable for the Lord Mayor of Melbourne to think that his opinion would hold any weight.

This is likely simply a publicity stunt aimed at his own constituents in Melbourne, where Postecoglou is a very popular man.

However, that does not make the statement any less bizarre and even the recently departed Tottenham boss would be embarrassed by it.

Tottenham fans will love Dejan Kulusevski’s latest injury update ahead of Thomas Frank era - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski has issued a promising update on his recovery from knee surgery, a development that will surely please incoming manager Thomas Frank.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur had to manage a severe injury crisis last season, one that contributed to the Lilywhites’ poor domestic form.

While twelve players were out at some point last season, the business end of the 2024/25 campaign saw the injury crisis ease up, before Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski all picked up fresh injuries ahead of their Europa League final clash.

James Maddison was ruled out for three months and is currently racing against time to be fit ahead of the start of next season.

Kulusevski, on the other hand, had to undergo surgery on his knee after he picked up a knock against Crystal Palace and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

The versatile player has now provided an update on his injury and has stated that his recovery from his recent setback is going well.

According to Dejan Kulusevski, he is already ahead of schedule, as he looks to make a return as soon as possible. However, the 25-year-old is expected to miss the start of the season, but he has not ruled out returning to action in September.

Asked about his injury, Kulusevski told FotbollSkanalen: “It is good. I am already ahead of schedule, I can start walking now, so that is nice.”

Asked whether he will be back for World Cup qualifiers in September, he added: “It has been a few months since I have been watching and being on the sidelines. It is early, but we will see.”

Thomas Frank handed boost as Kulusevski eyes early return

Of course, by the time Kulusevski makes his return, he will be playing under a new manager following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou on Friday, 6 June.

Indeed, soon-to-be-appointed Thomas Frank would be pleased to hear that the Swede would not miss a lot of the start of the season, as he eyes a return in September.

Ange Postecoglou had major doubts about Tottenham’s culture early on - Spurs Web
Description

As we continue to deal with the fallout from Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, Alasdair Gold has now revealed that the recently sacked Spurs boss saw warning signs very early in his tenure.

Whatever decision Spurs made regarding Postecoglou this summer would have been questioned. They either had to stick with a manager who oversaw 22 league defeats or sack a manager who delivered the club their first trophy in 17 years.

Daniel Levy took the latter path and some Spurs fans are furious that Postecoglou did not get a chance to build on his Europa League success.

Heartfelt messages have been pouring from the Tottenham players for Postecoglou over the last few days, which shows that the decision is not a popular one in the dressing room.

What Ange Postecoglou felt during his initial days at Tottenham

Even though Tottenham Hotspur had a strong start to Postecoglou’s reign at the club when he arrived in 2023, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reveals that the Australian had some doubts even at that time.

The journalist explains that the 59-year-old feared in his early days at the club that, despite his best efforts, he would not be able to bring about the changes he wanted at the club.

While Gold does not clarify what sort of changes he is referring to, it would be fair to assume that it has to do with the culture at Spurs, which has been questioned by Postecoglou’s predecessors.

Ange Postecoglou did his job by changing Tottenham’s mentality

Whether one thinks the decision to sack Postecoglou was justified or not, one could appreciate that the Australian did his job by delivering a trophy.

That winning feeling the squad now has will dramatically change their mentality. The next time Tottenham make it into the semifinals or finals, the players will actually believe they can win, which has not been the case with Spurs teams over the last decade.

That is Postecoglou’s biggest legacy at the club and there is no doubt that he will always be seen as a hero by the Spurs faithful.

Heung-min Son is more open to a Tottenham Hotspur exit than ever before

Heung-min Son is more open to a Tottenham Hotspur exit than ever before - Spurs Web
Description

Heung-min Son could be about to call time on his Tottenham career, with the club captain now more open to leaving than he has ever been before.

Several changes have been going on behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, including the departure of Donna-Maria Cullen, the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, the exit of Ryan Mason, and the dismissal of Scott Munn.

A few days ago, it emerged that club captain Heung-min Son could also be on the move this summer, with strong interest from Saudi Arabia making headlines once again.

The Korean international is without question a modern-day Tottenham legend, having stayed loyal to the club for over a decade in pursuit of silverware – a quest that finally bore fruit last season when Spurs edged Manchester United 1-0 to lift the Europa League trophy.

Heung-min Son could leave Tottenham this summer

Now aged 32, reports suggest that although Tottenham are not actively pushing Heung-min Son out of the door, they would be open to letting the Korean forward leave if a suitable offer arrives.

The general feeling within the club is that Son may well be on his way out, with sources indicating that this is the impression the forward has left among his teammates.

Now, fresh reports from football.london states that one of the first items on Thomas Frank’s to-do list once his move to Tottenham is confirmed will be to hold direct talks with Son regarding his future at the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the publication also claims that Heung-min Son is now more receptive to a move away from Tottenham than he has ever been before.

Spurs must weigh Son’s value carefully ahead of possible exit

Son will turn 33 in the coming months, and with that in mind, it is hardly surprising that the club may be considering cashing in rather than risking losing him for free, especially after Son’s contract extension back in January.

Tottenham are back in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2022/23 campaign, and given how youthful the squad is, Son’s presence and experience could prove vital if they are to stand any chance of staying competitive in Europe.

However, Son has not dismissed the idea of a potential exit either. When asked about his future during the recent international break, He said: “I still have one more year left on the contract.

“Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens. But no matter where I end up, I will always do the best I can. It will never change.”

Fabio Paratici has reportedly received interest from the Saudi Pro League as a new report sheds light on the Italian’s proposed return to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian director has continued to work as a consultant for the club over the past two years and has often been spotted in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during matches.

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Paratici will return to Spurs in an official role once his FIFA ban expires in July.

The 52-year-old’s expected return, along with the arrival of new CEO Vinai Venkatesham, means that Tottenham’s chief football officer Scott Munn will be relieved of his duties.

Tottenham have competition in Fabio Paratici pursuit

BBC Sport have now claimed that Paratici is still in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over returning to the club in a formal role.

The report says that the process towards his permanent reappointment is currently ‘ongoing’, with the Italian willing to move from his consultancy role back into a full-time role at N17.

It is revealed that some clubs from the Middle East have expressed an interest in Paratici recently, but thankfully for Tottenham, the outlet adds that the former Juventus director is keen on joining the Lilywhites.

While he might not have officially rejoined the North London club yet, some reports indicate that Fabio Paratici is already heavily involved in everything Tottenham are doing.

It is thought that the 52-year-old is calling the shots alongside Daniel Levy and Vinai Venkatesham as Tottenham embark on a summer of change.

Description

As Tottenham Hotspur continue to contemplate whether to sign Mathys Tel permanently, the club’s soon-to-be head coach Thomas Frank has now given the Lilywhites a clear message regarding whether he wants the Frenchman in his squad.

It has been widely reported over the last two months that Tottenham do not plan on activating the £45m option to buy Tel and instead want to renegotiate a discounted deal with Bayern.

Various German publications have said that Bayern would be open to offering Spurs a discount on Tel, while it has also been suggested that Tottenham would be open to extending Tel’s loan along with an obligation to buy.

The decision was always unlikely to be made until a new manager was in place and it has now been revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have spoken to Frank about the Bayern forward.

Thomas Frank has told Tottenham to complete Mathys Tel deal

TEAMtalk have now claimed that Spurs are keen on securing the 20-year-old’s services after their communication with Frank, who is expected to be announced shortly as the club’s next head coach.

The report reveals that the Dane has already had discussions with the Spurs hierarchy regarding their summer transfer targets and he made it clear to them that Tel is someone he wants to work with.

According to the update, Frank sees the young forward as a good fit for his high-pressing and dynamic system while he also values the youngster’s work rate and adaptability.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 51-year-old has told the North London club that signing Tel permanently would significantly bolster the club’s attacking options as the Lilywhites target a top-four finish next season.

What Tel is thinking about a potential move to Spurs

TEAMtalk also explain that Tottenham’s chances of landing the Bayern man are boosted by the player’s own stance, with the forward keen to continue playing at the club next season.

The France Under-21 international is said to be enthusiastic about staying at N17 and has thoroughly enjoyed his time at N17 so far.
