Description

James Maddison has not let Simon Jordan forget his words, and now, the TalkSport pundit has finally admitted he was wrong about the Tottenham star.

James Maddison and Simon Jordan have been going back and forth ever since Tottenham Hotspur clinched the UEFA Europa League on 21 May.

The former Crystal Palace chairman had earlier cast doubt on whether Maddison had the credentials to be part of a title-winning side. That take, however, did not age well.

Maddison did respond after Tottenham’s Europa League win, with a cheeky dig. He posted a video to his Instagram story, which started with Jordan’s remarks, then cut to scenes of him celebrating Tottenham’s Europa League triumph alongside his teammates. The caption? “Bookmarked it. Knew it would come in handy.”

Unwilling to back down, Jordan doubled down on his Maddison criticism. He responded with a swipe at Tottenham’s league position, saying: “You win things now with James Maddison and your team gets relegated.

“Perhaps if he had been available for Spurs more this season, they might have got relegated – they did their very best to try to, did they not, by finishing fourth from bottom?”

James Maddison forces Simon Jordan to backtrack after Tottenham’s Europa League win

James Maddison fired back at the ex-Crystal Palace chairman, stating he would not shy away from calling people out when criticised, and that he would not become a player who offers bland, media-trained responses.

He also reminded Jordan that football is a team game – a clear response to the pundit’s claim that Maddison was not in the final lineup – and ultimately called for some overdue recognition, cheekily asking Jordan to eat humble pie.

Now, Simon Jordan has conceded defeat. Speaking on TalkSport, he admitted he was wrong about the Tottenham midfielder and that he had indeed eaten the humble pie Maddison served.

He said: “I took the meek, first of all it was tongue-in-cheek, second of all I think he spoke brilliantly there, absolutely right, too many generic answers from players – lack of character. I am the first person to say that sort of thing so I think what James has said is absolutely right.

“Unfortunately for James, I think probably if you look at the win record, when he plays for Tottenham and when he is absent, I think the win record when he is playing is worse than when he is not playing.

“So it does support my argument. I did make a tongue-in-cheek observation, of course, the ultimate thing is you win with James Maddison and get relegated like Leicester did when he was in that side that won the FA Cup, then got relegated. Tottenham did their best to try and get relegated this season.”

Simon Jordan reflects on Maddison criticism and media backlash

The TalkSport pundit did eventually admit his initial verdict was off the mark, and that he did not need to be defensive about it.

He added: “I do not need to eat a humble pie because the first part of what I said in the clip that was played to James, which was omitted, was absolutely wrong. I am happy to be wrong and I am glad I am pulled up about it because people do not pull people up, and I should have been pulled up and so should other people that have criticised him.”

When asked about Maddison’s overall response to punditry and media criticism, Jordan continued: “He is very assured and I think people… I reacted to him at times when I saw him not going for England duty and being found out at a casino thinking hmmm, not sure about that James.

“And there are times when he has got tickets on himself, and I do not mind that as long as you can back it up. I think when he talks in interviews after games, he is very self-assured, very confident, he expresses himself and I think it takes people back a little bit because they do not like people that are confident.

“People do not like people that are assertive, they go oh he is aggressive. Oh he is cocky. No he just knows his own mind so I have absolutely no problem with him biting back because he is doing a tongue-in-cheek anyway at people that have said you do not win things with this fella. Because ultimately in the great scheme of things he is right and people like me are wrong.”

Description

Tottenham’s manager hunt has taken a turn, with Daniel Levy now weighing an Ange Postecoglou decision that could reshape the club’s short-term future.

The future of current Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou remains uncertain, as Spurs weigh up a decision after the manager’s recent success in the Europa League, where he won the competition, ending Tottenham’s long wait for silverware.

However, the Australian has struggled domestically, especially in the Premier League, where he has overseen the club’s worst ever finish in their history, guiding them to 17th place, after losing 22 out of 38 games.

It is Postecoglou’s poor domestic campaign that has seen him come under fire, with Tottenham having since had a shortlist of potential managerial targets should they sack the 59-year-old, but given his recent cup win, the Tottenham hierarchy has a big decision to make.

Tottenham prepare crunch talks with Ange Postecoglou as Levy weighs up replacements

Football Insider has now revealed where things stand on the future of the man in the Spurs dugout.

The publication has reported that Spurs are preparing to ramp up crunch talks with Postecoglou in the coming days as his future hangs in the balance.

It is said that Daniel Levy and his recruitment team are evaluating potential replacements for the Australian manager, but could choose to stick with him if the right man is not available.

Ange Postecoglou has, of course, benefited from a groundswell of support from his Tottenham players after he delivered Tottenham’s first trophy in 17 years, a support that could work in his favour.

It was also revealed a few days back that Brentford were starting to get worried about Thomas Frank’s position in the Bees’ dugout, amidst interest from Tottenham.

Tottenham are said to be monitoring the Brentford man who has impressed once more as head coach of the London club, after guiding them to a top ten finish for the second time in three seasons.

Journalist Alasdair Gold has also reported that there is a chance Postecoglou remains in the Tottenham dugout at the start of next season after ending Spurs’ trophy drought.

The journalist has stated that there is a huge surge of gratitude from Tottenham fans for Postecoglou, suggesting that Levy will be mindful of the backlash from the supporters if he now sacks the Aussie coach.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans will only have to wait for a few days for the launch of the new 2025-26 home shirt, with the club confirming when the kits will be released.

As is always the case, there have been several alleged leaks of the Tottenham home kit ahead of the new season. Back in January, footy headlines claimed to have leaked the design of all three of Tottenham’s kits for the 2025-26 season.

Spurs fans have not been too impressed with some leaked kit designs, with many of them even hoping that the leaks are false.

We will not have to wait for long for official confirmation though, as the launch of the new Spurs home kit is now just days away.

Tottenham Hotspur have sent an email to fans confirming that the home kit for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign will be launched on June 3.

Plenty of Spurs fans will be eagerly awaiting to see Nike’s latest design on the back of what has been a historic season, which ended with Europa League glory for the Lilywhites.

Champions League nights make kit launch even more significant

As Spurs fans are aware, Tottenham wear an all-white kit on European nights instead of the navy blue shorts they wear domestically.

There will be a lot more eyes on Spurs’ European fixtures next season as the Lilywhites are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Tottenham Hotspur are battling two of their London rivals for Leroy Sane’s signature, and the Lilywhites might have one major advantage in the race for the Bayern Munich star’s services.

It emerged earlier this week Spurs were looking to land Sane on a free transfer after the winger’s contract negotiations with Bayern hit a stumbling block.

According to updates from Germany, Tottenham are pushing the hardest to sign Sane as the former Manchester City man is considering cutting his ties with the Bavarian club.

It was reported a couple of days ago that Arsenal may challenge Spurs for Sane’s signature, and Bild previously claimed that Chelsea also have their eye on the winger.

Tottenham have an ace up their sleeve in Leroy Sane race

Christian Falk has now informed CF Bayern Insider that Tottenham Hotspur hold the most ‘concrete’ interest in the pacy 29-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur are turning their attention to two of RB Leipzig’s star attackers as the Lilywhites aim to make a major splash this summer.

Tottenham are set to receive a huge financial windfall after their qualification for the Champions League and it has been revealed that Spurs are expected to make some big moves this summer.

It was reported by Fichajes a couple of days ago that Tottenham have identified Xavi Simons as one of their priority summer targets.

However, it turns out that he is not the only Leipzig man the North London club are eyeing, with the club also assessing a move for another one of the Bundesliga club’s star players.

Tottenham plotting double raid of RB Leipzig

ESPN have now backed up the rumours doing the rounds over the last few days by confirming that Tottenham are not just plotting a move for Simons, but also his teammate, Benjamin Sesko.

The report claims that the Lilywhites hold a keen interest in the centre-forward as well as an attacking midfielder but does not make it clear if they have made advances for either player.

This is not the first we have heard of Spurs’ interest in the Slovenian striker either, with TBR Football previously claiming that Tottenham are battling Liverpool and Chelsea for Sesko’s signature.

However, given how highly rated the Dutchman is, one would expect the Spurs to face plenty of competition for the attacking midfielder this summer.

Tottenham target says there is just a 1% chance he leaves this summer - Spurs Web

Tottenham Hotspur could be on the hunt for a new manager this summer, but one of their top targets says he is 99% sure about staying exactly where he is.

While Daniel Levy is yet to decide on Ange Postecoglou’s future, various reports have indicated that the expectation is that Tottenham will have a new head coach this summer.

It has been reported that Spurs are considering a move for Oliver Glasner, whose reputation has grown considerably since he arrived in the Premier League last season.

Some sources have even claimed that Palace have started their search for Glasner’s replacement amid Tottenham’s interest, but the FA Cup-winning manager has now set the record straight about his future.

Oliver Glasner responds to speculation over his future

Palace’s co-owner and chairman, Steve Parish, is bullish that Glasner will remain at Selhurst Park for at least one more season.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has also expressed his commitment to the Eagles but put his chances of staying at 99 per cent, thus leaving the door slightly ajar for a potential exit.

When asked about the speculation over his future, Glasner said: “In football, you never know 100 per cent, but I would say I am 99 per cent sure to be the coach of Crystal Palace next season.”

Description

A new report has shed light on why Tottenham Hotspur are extremely keen to tie down Rodrigo Bentancur to a new contract and the details that the midfielder wants confirmed before he signs a contract extension at the North London club.

Bentancur had an outstanding first 18 months at Tottenham Hotspur after arriving at the club in January of 2022 from Juventus, but his progress was halted by his ACL injury.

It has taken the Uruguayan a long time to get to his old levels after recovering from the injury, but he showed clear signs towards the end of the 2024-25 season that he is getting back to his best.

The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract, and it has been reported over recent months that Spurs are keen to tie Bentancur down to a new contract.

Rodrigo Bentancur wants to wait on key Tottenham decision

TBR Football have now claimed that Bentancur is very highly rated at Tottenham, and many at the club see him as a potential future captain.

That is why the Spurs hierarchy are extremely keen on tying down the former Juve man to a long-term deal, with the club not wanting to allow him to run into the final year of his contract.

The report says that work has commenced on a new contract for Bentancur, who is open to committing his future to Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is alleged that the midfielder is waiting on a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future before green-lighting a new deal.

Could the support of the Tottenham players save Ange Postecoglou’s job?

It is not just Bentancur who is waiting on Spurs’ decision on their managerial role before confirming his position, with another senior star also thought to be doing the same.

It has been reported over recent days that Tottenham’s chances of keeping Cristian Romero would be boosted if Postecoglou stays.

Additionally, several Spurs players have said publicly that Postecoglou deserves a third season after leading the club to Europa League glory.

It is clear that the Australian has the support of the Tottenham dressing room, and that is a factor that Levy might take into account when deciding his future.

Description

Lucas Bergvall has delivered a heartfelt message to Tottenham Hotspur fans after his breakout campaign ends in silverware.

The 2024/25 season was one big rollercoaster ride for Tottenham Hotspur, with the club alternating between moments of brilliance and spells of absolute chaos throughout the campaign.

Their domestic form, particularly in the Premier League, was abysmal to say the least, as Tottenham finished 17th, just one place above the relegation zone, having lost 22 of their 38 league games.

Europe provided one of the few silver linings for the North London club, as Spurs embarked on a deep Europa League run and ultimately lifted the trophy after a narrow 1-0 win over Manchester United, ending their 17-year wait for silverware.

Lucas Bergvall thanks Tottenham supporters after end of 24/25 season

The development of youngsters was another bright spark in what was largely a gloomy season, as the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray gained much-needed first-team experience amid the club’s injury crisis.

Bergvall, who was brought in from the Swedish league at just 18 years of age, featured 45 times for Tottenham across all competitions, registering four assists and scoring once.

Although he endured a difficult start to life in England, the youngster steadily grew into the Tottenham shirt and eventually became an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s setup.

MORE SPURS STORIES

With the season now concluded – and ending on a high for Spurs – the teenager took to social media to share a heartfelt message with the Tottenham faithful, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering support.

He said: “I want to say thank you for all your support in my first season here, for treating me as one of your own from the start, and to all the staff and my teammates for everything they have done to make me feel at home here.

“It has been a year of learning and adapting – it has not always been easy for any of us but we know that we will be better for next season and we kept believing that we could do something special.

“Finishing my first season with three awards and especially the Europa League trophy, I feel very grateful. We will keep building! 🤍”

Bergvall shines as Spurs eye Champions League return

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur will look to build on their most recent European success, and Bergvall, who was rewarded with a six-year deal earlier this year, will be at the heart of it.

Lucas Bergvall capped off a brilliant first spell in English football in truly spectacular fashion, securing the OSC Player of the Season, the One Hotspur Player of the Season, and the One Hotspur Juniors Player of the Season.
