Bodo/Glimt set to be 'without half their team' against Tottenham for Europa League semi-final - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham have been handed a major boost ahead of their Europa League semi-final, as Bodo/Glimt’s injury crisis continues to worsen.

Reaching a Europa League semi-final isn’t something that comes around often for Tottenham Hotspur.

In fact, in their long history, Tottenham have only made it to this stage of the competition five times – and on two of those occasions, they’ve gone on to lift the trophy.

Given how dismal this Premier League season has been, with Spurs losing 19 games and currently languishing in 16th place, a repeat of the 1983/84 campaign – when they last won the Europa League – would be the perfect silver lining to what’s otherwise been a frustrating campaign.

Bodo/Glimt injury crisis ahead of Tottenham clash

Ange Postecoglou’s side will fancy their chances, as they welcome Bodo/Glimt to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday – a side who, on paper, Spurs should be beating.

But while Tottenham supporters have urged caution and warned against complacency ahead of the Glimt showdown, Postecoglou will know better than to underestimate a side in strong form heading into this clash.

Even so, according to The Sun, the Norwegian champions have been hit with a wave of problems ahead of the game, with five important players currently set to miss out due to suspension or injury.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bodo/Glimt are already without three suspended players, including their captain and midfield general Patrick Berg.

On top of that, there are now serious doubts over centre-back Odin Bjortuft and winger Ole Blomberg.

Bjortuft, who’s played every minute of their campaign so far, was forced off in the second half of their 3-0 league win over KFUM on Sunday with a groin issue.

He’s now a major doubt for the trip to north London, while Blomberg – another key figure – missed that game entirely after picking up an injury earlier in the month.

Spurs must make Bodo/Glimt absences count

Skipper Patrick Berg, 27, is out after picking up too many yellow cards, alongside midfield partner Hakon Evjen and striker Andreas Helmersen.

Helmersen had been in good form and scored a crucial goal in their quarter-final win over Lazio – one of several big scalps Bodo/Glimt have claimed this season.

Speaking after the KFUM win, manager Kjetil Knutsen said of Bjortuft: “I do not know anything. I never enjoy a player laying down, but the medical staff are looking into it.”

Tottenham have to make this advantage count, especially with the home leg coming first – it’s a chance to take control of the tie before heading to Norway next week.

Spurs vs Bodo/Glimt team news

As for team news, both sides head into this one relatively unscathed. Tottenham will be sweating on the fitness of Heung-min Son, who remains a doubt as he continues to manage a foot injury. Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin is unavailable, still recovering from his ACL setback.

Bodo Glimt have their own problems to contend with. Andreas Helmersen, Patrick Berg and Hakon Evjen are all suspended and will miss Thursday’s match, while Daniel Bassi, though injured, has returned to training.

Spurs Web Prediction

Tottenham simply have to make their dominance at home tell. They need to be clinical against Bodo Glimt and crush any sense of belief the visitors might be hoping to take into the second leg.

If Spurs fail to do that, they could be in trouble – Bodo Glimt are no mugs at the Aspmyra Stadion, and their home record speaks for itself.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just received some bad news in their pursuit of a Bundesliga star as the player is now reportedly the subject of strong interest from several Saudi Pro League sides.

It will be interesting to see the kind of reinforcements that Spurs make to their forward line, which has underperformed for much of the season.

It has been reported by various outlets over the last month that Tottenham are plotting a move to sign Kingsley Coman, who has just one year left on his contract at Bayern Munich.

It emerged last week that Arsenal have shown the most serious interest in Coman, and the Lilywhites have been handed further bad news in their pursuit of the Bayern man.

Saudi clubs prepared to spend big on Kingsley Coman

It has now been revealed by Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg that the Frenchman now has his sights on a move to the Middle East.

This is after all of the top four Saudi Arabian clubs expressed an interest in signing him, with the journalist explaining that they are ready to spend €50m (£42.5m) on the 29-year-old.

Plettenberg adds that Kingsley Coman could earn a whopping €25m (£21.2m) a year in Saudi Arabia, and while he makes no mention of Tottenham Hotspur, he says that Arsenal remains a ‘concrete option’ for the winger.

Tottenham have started to look at Premier League alternatives for Coman

Given the tight wage structure Spurs have, it seems unlikely that they are going to persuade Coman to arrive at N17.

If reports over the last few weeks are to be believed, the Lilywhites are now turning their attention to Premier League wingers to bolster their attack.

George Abbott has been handed the English Football League’s Goal of the Season award, and the Tottenham youngster admits he never thought he would win an award for his goalscoring exploits.

While some youngsters struggle to cope with the pressure that comes with playing in the EFL on loan, others thrive under the added expectations.

That is exactly what has happened with Tottenham Hotspur’s George Abbott, who has won many admirers in his first taste of senior football at Notts County.

The 19-year-old’s consistent displays at the base of the side’s midfield have been crucial to their promotion push, with Abbott even being nominated for the League Two Player of the Year award.

George Abbott wins EFL Goal of the Season award

The teenager is thought of highly in Tottenham academy due to his versatility, technical quality and tactical intelligence, but he has shown another string to his bow this season, regularly making contributions in the final third.

Abbott has scored six goals and provided seven assists across all competitions this term, and almost all of his goals have been superb strikes rather than tap-ins.

Undoubtedly, the best of the lot was his fine strike against Accrington Stanley back in January, with the Spurs loanee running onto a looping corner kick and connecting beautifully with a volley, which sailed into the top corner.

That strike has now been deemed the best goal of the campaign across the EFL, with Abbott taking home the prestigious award.

George Abbott admits ‘special’ feeling to win the award

The youngster remarked that it was a matter of huge pride to take home the award, admitting that the goal against Accrington Stanley was straight out of the training ground.

The teenager also spoke about his tendencies to score worldies and how his shooting has improved from last season.

How Bodo/Glimt got on this weekend ahead of Tottenham semi-final clash - Spurs Web
Description

Bodo/Glimt warmed up for their huge Europa League clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the best way possible. Let’s see how the Norwegian side got on this weekend.

The Europa League is back this week, with Tottenham Hotspur set to lock horns with Bodo/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, 1 May 2025.

Coming into this clash, Glimt had already stunned one of the tournament favourites, Lazio – not in the most straightforward fashion, but they still got the job done, winning 3-2 on penalties.

Tottenham, meanwhile, saw off Eintracht Frankfurt, edging a 1-0 win at the Deutsche Bank Park after a 1-1 draw at home.

Ahead of Thursday’s clash, both sides returned to league action. For Spurs, it was a painful afternoon – a dismantling 5-1 loss to Liverpool.

But for Bodo/Glimt, it was a different story entirely. Here’s how they fared at the weekend.

Bodo/Glimt seal comfortable win ahead of Tottenham clash

Coming into Thursday’s clash, Kjetil Knutsen’s side will be buoyed by their convincing 3-0 win in the Eliteserien Round 4 tie against KFUM.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That 3-0 victory means Glimt remain unbeaten in their domestic campaign, with three wins and one draw from their opening four fixtures.

The win against KFUM came at Glimt’s home ground – a place where they’ve yet to taste defeat in Europa League knockout matches this season.

It being a home tie also allowed their main man, Hogh, to shine – bagging a brace with goals in the 80th and 87th minute (penalty).

Spurs handed big boost with Bodo/Glimt injuries and suspensions

While Glimt head into this semi-final on the back of a morale-boosting win, there are a few issues that could make things tricky for the Eliteserien champions.

Bodo/Glimt will be without some key players when they take on Spurs in the Europa League. Captain Patrick Berg is suspended after picking up too many yellow cards, and his midfield partner Hakon Evjen, is also ruled out for the same reason.

Adding to their woes, Andreas Helmersen, who scored a vital goal against Lazio, is suspended after his red card in the previous round.

Tottenham will be hoping to make these absences count when they welcome Glimt under the lights on Thursday night.

Pundit urges ‘sensational’ young striker to turn down Tottenham move

Pundit urges ‘sensational’ young striker to turn down Tottenham move - Spurs Web
Description

Amidst reports that Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for a young EFL starlet, who only recently made his senior debut for his club, a pundit has now advised the player to snub Spurs’ interest and remain where he is.

The Tottenham hierarchy will undoubtedly be very happy with the impact that Archie Gray has made in his first season at the club following his switch from Leeds last summer.

It emerged last week that Spurs are now plotting to raid Elland Road for Archie’s younger brother, Harry Gray, who made his senior debut for Daniel Farke’s men in their 6-0 trashing of Stoke City last week.

The update claimed that even though Arsenal had also expressed an interest in the 16-year-old striker, Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to land him this summer.

Pundit tells Harry Gray not to rush into Tottenham transfer

EFL pundit Don Goodman believes that Tottenham will likely be joined by a whole host of Premier League clubs in the race for Harry Gray, admitting that he has been hearing special things about the young forward.

However, Goodman insisted that at this stage of his career, the teenager’s priority should be to get regular game time, which is why he advised him to remain at Leeds.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in Harry Gray, the pundit told Football League World: “Personally, I don’t think Spurs are going to be on their own when it comes to high-end clubs scouting Harry Gray.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“The reports coming out of Elland Road are sensational, in that this could be a very special talent, maybe even more so than his brother Archie, which would be an incredible feat.

“At the moment though, it’s about playing football week in, week out and learning your trade. I think if Spurs did sign him, you would imagine it would be possible that they would loan him back to Leeds or a team where he would play regular first-team football.

“At that age, you need a slow, considered introduction to football, where you’re not overworked, but you get plenty of opportunities at first-team level. That, for me, would be the best thing for him.”

Could Spurs use Manor Solomon to push through Harry Gray deal?

Tottenham may have one ace up their sleeve in the negotiations for Harry Gray, as it has been widely reported that Leeds want to secure Manor Solomon permanently ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Yorkshire club may find themselves in a transfer tussle as Solomon is also wanted by Everton and Southampton this summer.

Tottenham may perhaps use their interest in the Israeli international to potentially steal a march on other suitors for Gray and get a favourable deal.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just received a huge blow in their rumoured pursuit of a Premier League striker as Man United are now advancing in their efforts to wrap up a quick deal for the player.

We are still over a month away from the opening of the summer transfer window, but it looks like clubs are already laying the groundwork to sign a Premier League marksman with 15 goals this season, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

It has been widely reported that a whole host of clubs, including Spurs, have expressed an interest in Matheus Cunha, with a big move on the cards for the Brazilian this summer.

According to various sources, Tottenham are considering activating Cunha’s £62m release clause, but the Lilywhites have now reportedly fallen behind one of their rivals in the race for the 25-year-old.

Man United looking to beat Tottenham and co to Matheus Cunha

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Man United have not only advanced on Cunha but have made significant progress in their efforts to tie up a deal.

The journalist explained that the Red Devils are ready to meet the forward’s release clause and predicted that only one more meeting might be needed to iron out all the details and finalise the transfer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about United’s pursuit of Cunha, Romao told GiveMeSport: “They need more, at least one more meeting, to fix some details. My understanding is that Man United want to make it happen as soon as possible, so I don’t expect Cunha to be a long saga, a deal for the end of July, August (or) Deadline Day, or all this sort of thing. I think the Cunha deal will happen quite soon if all goes to plan.

“The conversation is very advanced and Man United are prepared to pay the £62.5 million release clause in instalments, in that case, so are ready to approach Wolves to find a solution. But for sure, to reach an agreement with the player is the first step and Man United are going, absolutely, in the right direction.”

What Cunhan has said about his future

Speaking last month, Cunha admitted that he wants to join a club which can regularly compete for titles, which appeared to rule out Tottenham Hotspur.

However, if the Wolves man is willing to join Man United, then the Lilywhites may still have a chance to persuade him to come to N17.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur may not be going into the semifinal against Bodo/Glimt in great form, but their opponents are in even poorer shape, with yet another of their key men succumbing to injury ahead of what is one of the biggest games in the Norwegian club’s history.

The Lilywhites have had a disastrous season domestically, with Tottenham on course to achieve their lowest-ever Premier League points tally.

However, the North London club go into the clash against Bodo/Glimt as massive favourites, not just because of the quality they have at their disposal, but also due to their opponents’ injury situation.

It emerged last week that Bodo/Glimt will be without three key players for the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Captain Patrick Berg and midfielder Hakon Evjen are both suspended due to an accumulation of Europa League yellow cards, while Andreas Helmersen, who scored an important goal against Lazio, is also banned after he was sent off in the last round.

Bodo/Glimt suffer yet another major injury setback ahead of Tottenham clash

Football.London have revealed that during Bodo/Glimt’s 3-0 win against KFUM in the Eliteserien, centre-back Odin Bjortuft was forced off in the 54th minute and left the pitch holding his groin.

The 26-year-old has been a fixture in the club’s backline all campaign and has been one of the pillars of their Europa League success.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking after the game about the defender’s injury, his teammate Ulrik Saltnes said: “He was disappointed and told me that his groin was painful, but you can feel pain without that necessarily meaning it is something [bad].”

Bod/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen added about Bjortuft’s groin problem: “I do not know anything. I never enjoy a player lying down, but the medical staff are looking into it.”

Ange Postecoglou will have a nearly full-strength Spurs squad

Ange Postecoglou confirmed following Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-1 thrashing at Anfield that there are no injury concerns, with all of his players emerging from the game unscathed.

However, the Australian will be sweating on the fitness of his captain, with the injured Heung-min Son not yet ruled out of the first leg against Bodo/Glimt.

Aston Villa aim to block Tottenham from fixture change to aid Europa League pursuit

Description

Tottenham Hotspur want to reschedule their Premier League fixture against Aston Villa in the event they qualify for the Europa League final – but Unai Emery’s side are firmly opposed to the idea.

Everyone at Tottenham is eagerly waiting for the Europa League semifinal clash against Bodo/Glimt, with the North London side having a golden opportunity to make their first European final since 2019.

If Spurs do get past the Norwegian side, they will meet either Man United or Athletic Club Bilbao in the final at San Mames on 21 May.

However, as things stand, Tottenham Hotspur are set to play Aston Villa in a Premier League fixture just three days earlier on May 18, which may not be ideal preparation for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Tottenham in discussions to rearrange Aston Villa fixture

According to previous reports, Tottenham’s fixture against Aston Villa would have been rescheduled if the Villans had made it into the FA Cup final.

However, Unai Emery’s men came undone in the semifinal on Saturday, with Crystal Palace inflicting a 3-0 loss on the Midlands side at Wembley.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It turns out that there is still a chance that Tottenham’s trip to Villa Park will be rescheduled despite Villa not making it through to the final.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they are currently holding discussions with the Premier League to explore the possibility of rearranging the fixture.

Aston Villa oppose Spurs attempts to change fixture

Should Tottenham seal progression to the final of the Europa League, one would think that the Premier League has to comply with the Lilywhites’ wishes and rearrange the fixture. It will be a travesty if Spurs are forced to play less than 72 hours before the final in Bilbao.

While it goes without saying that Postecoglou will rest his key players, the travel and the lack of sufficient time to prepare for the final will still be major issues for the North London club if the Villa clash is not rearranged.

Unfortunately, Aston Villa have since written to the Premier League to officially oppose Tottenham’s request (Standard). They claim there is no precedent for moving domestic games to make room for European fixtures.

The Villans have also pointed out that they have consistently played every three or four days all season long, due to their involvement in the Champions League. Of course, Unai Emery’s side would have gladly seen the fixture rearranged had they qualified for the FA Cup final, though.

Whatever happens, Tottenham have to complete step one and actually qualify for the Europa League final by beating Bodo/Glimt across two legs first.

Guglielmo Vicario reveals why he will remember Ange Postecoglou for the rest of his life

Guglielmo Vicario reveals why he will remember Ange Postecoglou for the rest of his life - Spurs Web
Description

Guglielmo Vicario has offered a glimpse into life inside the Tottenham dressing room under Ange Postecoglou – and it is clear the Australian’s influence goes well beyond tactics and team selections.

In recent months, Ange Postecoglou has not been the most popular figure in north London. The Australian has had a few run-ins with supporters, particularly after defeats.

Following the loss to Fulham, Postecoglou had to be pulled aside by Tel and Djed Spence after a confrontation with frustrated fans.

There was another sour moment during the defeat against Chelsea, where Postecoglou was seen cupping his ears towards the crowd after boos greeted his substitutions.

Although Ange Postecoglou later insisted the gesture was not aimed at Spurs fans, the relationship between the Spurs boss and the supporters has been anything but smooth.

Guglielmo Vicario lifts lid on Ange Postecoglou leadership at Tottenham

A lot of the tension stems from the poor results that Tottenham have endured this season, with the Lilywhites currently sat 16th in the Premier League after losing almost 20 matches.

While there have been growing calls for Ange Postecoglou to be shown the door, Guglielmo Vicario has now revealed exactly what it is like to play under the Australian’s leadership.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The goalkeeper spoke glowingly about his manager, praising Postecoglou as a fantastic human being. Vicario also revealed that Postecoglou’s style of play is a joy to be a part of – particularly when players fully buy into it.

He said in an interview with Optus Sport: “Before the managerial aspect that he wants, you know, to play, he’s a fantastic human being in the way he approaches people and in the way also, he teaches people how to behave and how to live life. So I will always remember for my entire life the way he speaks to the team.

“In the meetings, in the reviewing of the games, to preparing the game, it’s a big deal. It’s a big part of his personality. It’s a big part of his human being.

“And then of course, his style of coaching is – the way that he wants to deliver football to people is to change, you know, a little bit of this kind of mentality.

“How you want to do and how you want to go into a game, is a big deal. Because it’s not – it’s an untraditional, you know, play of football. So if you embrace that, you will love it.”

Spurs struggles continue despite Postecoglou philosophy

Of course, Vicario’s comments show how good a job Postecoglou has done in keeping his players together – they are all behind the manager and continue to play for him.

However, results on the pitch have not matched what Guglielmo Vicario has shared – it has not been on full display this season as Tottenham continue to struggle.

One might even argue that, since the opening ten matches of last season, Ange Postecoglou’s football has been far too inconsistent to build on.

With results deteriorating each passing week, talk of a managerial change has intensified, with Postecoglou potentially facing the sack ahead of next season.
