Description

The Mali boss has said something very interesting about what Tottenham Hotspur are doing ahead of Yves Bissouma’s involvement in the African Cup of Nations.

The midfielder has suffered multiple injury problems this season and has not played a single fixture for Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite his last competitive game for Spurs coming back in May, Bissouma has been named in Mali’s squad for the AFCON.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are keen to sell Bissouma in January, but in the meantime, it appears that the North London club are working closely with the player.

Tottenham are helping Yves Bissouma be fit for AFCON

Bissouma apologised to Spurs fans last week after being videoed inhaling laughing gas, but the 29-year-old could still be in hot water.

It has been suggested that the midfielder is facing disciplinary action from Tottenham for his latest misstep and may have no way back at the club.

However, Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet has now revealed that Spurs are working closely with him and his staff to help the former Brighton man be fit for the African Cup of Nations.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about his captain, Saintfiet told ESPN: “It’s sad that he’s been inactive for a few months because of injury, but we are working together with Tottenham to get him back.

“We hope that he’ll be on the pitch during the AFCON to help our team. He’s always a major player for our team on and off the pitch, and we need him on our way to success.

“He’s a leader, a personality, an intelligent footballer, and he helps the team a lot. We’re helping him step by step to get [back to match sharpness], but we don’t put any pressure.

“We know that maybe game one will be too early for him, but we’ll see when he’s ready. We have a lot of good players, but we could rely on him, on and off the pitch, as our team captain.”

Spurs could be forced to extend Bissouma’s contract

It has emerged over recent days that West Ham and Everton have both cooled their interest in Bissouma ahead of the January window.

The midfielder’s current contract at Tottenham runs out at the end of the season, which is why the Lilywhites would be keen to cash in on him next month.

Jamie Carragher names two key areas Thomas Frank needs to adapt at Tottenham

Jamie Carragher names two key areas Thomas Frank needs to adapt at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Jamie Carragher believes that two of Thomas Frank’s biggest strengths at Brentford are proving to be his undoing at Tottenham Hotspur.

There was a lot of optimism among Spurs fans when Frank was appointed in the summer, and the Dane made a positive start to life at N17.

However, all of that positivity has now evaporated, with the Tottenham fans starting to lose patience with the lack of attacking impetus shown by their side.

Reports indicate that Frank no longer has the unanimous support of the Spurs board, and Carragher has now suggested that he has to change the way he interacts with the media.

Thomas Frank urged not to be so honest in Tottenham press conferences

Carragher has admitted that one of the most refreshing things about Frank at Brentford was his honesty and forthrightness.

However, he suggested that the same qualities are now costing him at the North London club, as all of his words are being scrutinised to a much higher degree.

Carragher told An Echo of Glory podcast: “I’ve always been a huge admirer of Thomas Frank. We’ve had him on Monday Night Football, and he is really honest when he speaks and comes across really well whenever you hear him speak.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I almost think that his honesty is not helping him in some ways when he’s at Tottenham. I think your words are scrutinised so much more when you’re a manager of one of the biggest clubs in the country, or one of the big six.

“They get a lot of the media attention and know we get criticised for that, but it’s just the nature of the beast. Something that we would think was honest and refreshing at Brentford can annoy a set of supporters at a big club as well. I think he’s got to be a little bit cuter with how he deals with questions in the press conference.”

While Brentford scored a lot of goals in their final couple of seasons under the current Tottenham boss, Carragher pointed out that it was a case of Frank building things slowly from the back year on year.

The pundit questioned if the 52-year-old has the same luxury at Spurs and if he is capable of delivering the kind of football that the supporters want to see.

The former Liverpool man added: “The way his teams played at Brentford and when he came on Monday Night Football, he definitely made a point of saying, each season he wants to see more football, and so they can gradually improve the way they play and we did a big part of that on Monday Night Football.

“The big problem any manager has is being a pragmatic manager, then going to a bigger club is the actual build-up and creating chances and playing through the thirds, and playing between the lines. Are they used to coaching that as much? And are they as good at coaching that as Pep Guardiola, shall we use for example.”

Tottenham are best positioned to sign Joao Palhinha’s former midfield teammate - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on one of Europe’s top midfielders, who has recently fallen out of favour at his current club.

Tottenham Hotspur invested in their midfield last summer, signing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich on loan with the option to buy.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed his time in North London up to this point, having provided a strong presence in the middle of the park. As well as this, he has scored some important goals, such as the stoppage-time equaliser against Wolves.

Spurs may look to sign another midfielder when the transfer window reopens, and there is another Bayern player on offer who Thomas Frank could play alongside Palhinha.

Tottenham could look to sign Leon Goretzka

Fichajes, as relayed by Caught Offside, report that Leon Goretzka has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich and has reached a point of no return.

Spurs are reportedly best positioned to sign the Germany international, although West Ham have also made their interest known.

Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer, so Tottenham have the opportunity to agree a cut-price deal. With the club competing in the Champions League and being more likely than West Ham to compete for trophies, they are believed to be in a good position to sign the 30-year-old.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Goretzka could start ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur at Spurs

Tottenham fans have been frustrated by the performances of Rodrigo Bentancur this season, and Goretzka could be a more versatile option.

The Bayern wantaway is a box-to-box midfielder and offers more in attack than the Uruguayan. Pairing him with Palhinha and one of Lucas Bergvall or Xavi Simons could provide Spurs with a better balance in midfield, so Goretzka is definitely worth considering.

Tottenham line up James Trafford and one other in search for Guglielmo Vicario replacement

Tottenham line up James Trafford and one other in search for Guglielmo Vicario replacement - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are considering replacing Guglielmo Vicario with a wantaway goalkeeper who used to be considered one of the best in Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur purchased a goalkeeper in the last January transfer window, and the same could happen next month, with concerns growing over Guglielmo Vicario.

The 29-year-old is a member of Thomas Frank’s leadership team and has been first choice at the club since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou in 2023.

However, Inter Milan want to sign Vicario, and Spurs might not wish to stand in their way, considering the Italian shot-stopper’s recent performances.

Tottenham have shown interest in Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Team Talk report that Frank is prioritising an upgrade in the goalkeeping department amid Vicario’s poor form. Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Marc-Andre ter Stegen as a high-profile option, with the 33-year-old having only made one start for Barcelona this season.

Although no significant negotiations have taken place, the La Liga giants are open to offers for ter Stegen, particularly if it helps to take the strain off their wage bill. This could take place in the form of a loan-to-buy deal, which would allow the goalkeeper to get minutes ahead of the World Cup, while giving Spurs the chance to assess a permanent move.

Tottenham also remain interested in James Trafford, who is viewed as a long-term solution with a high upside. Manchester City could be willing to let the 23-year-old leave on a loan-to-buy deal, but Pep Guardiola wishes to keep him until at least the end of the season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Trafford himself is keen on a move away from the Etihad Stadium, as he wants to be starting matches on a weekly basis.

Ter Stegen is not the type of goalkeeper Spurs usually sign

Tottenham tend to go for goalkeepers who are still developing and have not yet reached their prime, with the hope that they will spend many years at the club.

This was the case with Hugo Lloris, who made North London his home for more than 11 years and Trafford certainly fits this profile. Ter Stegen, on the other hand, is towards the back end of his career.

The last time Spurs bought a former world-class keeper who was past his best was when they brought Joe Hart to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2020. The ex-England international was only used in cup matches and was shipped off to Celtic after just one season.

However, ter Stegen was still starting matches for Barcelona last season, so hopefully he still has the ability to play as a first-choice option in one of the world’s greatest leagues.

Tottenham could use Brennan Johnson to land their top January transfer target

Tottenham could use Brennan Johnson to land their top January transfer target - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have three Premier League clubs interested in Brennan Johnson, and one of them stands out as being the most favourable for a key reason.

Brennan Johnson has never really managed to maintain a position in the starting lineup at Tottenham Hotspur, despite playing under two different managers.

The Wales international was a secondary option to Dejan Kulusevski, and this season, he has not looked like competing with Mohammed Kudus for the right wing position.

In fact, Johnson even appears to now be less favoured than Wilson Odobert, so it comes as no surprise that there is ongoing speculation surrounding his future at Spurs.

Three Premier League clubs are interested in Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson

According to journalist Dean Jones, Tottenham are looking to make a transfer decision on Johnson for 2026, and there is interest from three different teams.

Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are all said to be interested in signing the 24-year-old, just two and a half years after he departed Nottingham Forest.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Johnson is contracted to Spurs until 2028, so it would make sense for the club to agree a deal as soon as possible if he is not believed to have a future in North London.

Spurs could use Johnson as leverage to sign Antoine Semenyo

Spurs trail Manchester City in the race to sign Semenyo, and it seems unlikely that a deal will be agreed for the Bournemouth goalscorer as things stand.

However, Tottenham could look to sell Johnson to the Cherries as part of a deal to secure Semenyo in an unlikely plot twist.

Of course, the winger has a release clause which could take the situation out of Bournemouth’s hands, but it is still an avenue worth exploring.

Tottenham want to overtake Manchester City in race for ‘outstanding’ young winger

Tottenham want to overtake Manchester City in race for ‘outstanding’ young winger - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are making a push to sign a teenager who is impressing in the Championship, but other Premier League clubs are already in the race.

It appears likely that Tottenham Hotspur will sign a new winger in the January transfer window, in a move which will see the club finally replace Heung-min Son.

Spurs have recently been linked with Ruben Vargas, the Sevilla winger who has been racking up goal contributions in La Liga this season.

Most recently, it has been reported that Tottenham are interested in Said El Mala, who is having a strong opening campaign in the German top flight.

Tottenham are pushing to sign Jeremy Monga

According to TeamTalk, the ‘outstanding’ Jeremy Monga is another player to have caught the eye of Spurs, and they have been making moves to secure his signature in recent weeks.

It has been reported that every top Premier League club wants to sign the 16-year-old, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Manchester City were said to be leading the race to sign Monga a couple of months ago, but Tottenham are attempting to beat them to his capture.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The left winger will make his decision early next year, and he also has the option to move abroad, as a number of top European clubs have held conversations with his team.

However, he would have to wait until he turned 18 before leaving his home country, a rule which previously saw Luka Vuskovic unable to immediately join Spurs.

Spurs should remember the young wingers they already possess

Tottenham desperately need a left winger, but a young Championship player with only two goal contributions this season is surely not going to be an immediate first-team starter.

Spurs have Mikey Moore returning to the club after the conclusion of the season and Tynan Thompson looks like a promising prospect in the under-21s team. There are also players such as Yang Min-hyeok and Damola Ajayi who could play on the left wing, despite usually operating on the opposite side of attack.

It would make more sense to Tottenham to sign a left winger who has experience and is guaranteed to start matches. Monga may be showing promise, but there are already teenagers in his position at Spurs who deserve their chance to show what they can do.

Why Tottenham and Liverpool may both be worried by Premier League referee choice - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have had some chaotic meetings with Liverpool in the past, and the referee on Saturday may not help matters.

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Liverpool in the Premier League this Saturday, and it is a fixture which rarely disappoints.

The Reds defeated Spurs on three occasions last season, one of which was a 6-3 thumping at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last December. However, Ange Postecoglou’s team did record a victory over Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Tottenham also won this fixture two seasons ago in North London, in a bizarre match which saw a Luis Diaz goal chalked off after a VAR error and two Liverpool players sent off.

John Brooks will referee Tottenham vs Liverpool

Spurs have picked up 20 yellow cards over their six Premier League matches since the international break, so it could be a good idea to exercise caution against Liverpool.

Especially since John Brooks has been named as the referee, and he has a history of dishing out the cards when Tottenham play. The official has dished out 24 yellow cards and one second yellow to Spurs players in just 11 fixtures, according to TransferMarkt.

However, Tottenham have a decent win record in matches refereed by Brooks, having recorded six victories, three draws and two defeats

MORE SPURS STORIES

Liverpool are not fond of Brooks

While Spurs will need to be careful with Brooks overseeing their game, Liverpool have a history of bad blood with the 35-year-old.

Brooks sent Virgil van Dijk off during a match against Newcastle in August 2023, and a heated exchange between the pair occurred after the incident, which saw the defender receive a fine.

The official has not taken charge of a Liverpool match since October 2024. That day was also marred by controversy as Arne Slot criticised Brooks’ decisions, despite his team claiming a 2-1 victory.

Tottenham handed triple boost ahead of Premier League clash against Liverpool - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have received a potential boost ahead of their daunting Premier League clash with Liverpool, as the visitors face several selection headaches ahead of the trip to north London.

Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to return to winning ways in the Premier League as pressure continues to mount on manager Thomas Frank.

The fixture against Liverpool could not have come at a worse time for a struggling Spurs side, who have secured just one league win in their last five outings.

However, the match could also prove to be a blessing in disguise, as a victory against the reigning Premier League champions would go a long way in boosting confidence within the Tottenham camp.

Liverpool face injury concerns ahead of Tottenham clash

Thomas Frank’s side have now been handed an injury boost ahead of their clash with Arne Slot’s men, as several Liverpool players are doubts coming into this fixture.

Joe Gomez is set to miss this matchup, having picked up a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion in Liverpool’s last league encounter, and the defender is expected to be replaced by Conor Bradley.

Dominik Szoboszlai, arguably Liverpool’s player of the season so far, is also a doubt and could miss the trip to the capital after picking up a knock against the Seagulls, although a final decision on his fitness is expected on Friday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mohamed Salah has travelled for the Africa Cup of Nations and will miss out, although he could be replaced by Jeremie Frimpong, who has been sidelined for some time but could return at the weekend.

Spurs set to navigate injury problems of their own

Tottenham have significant injury concerns of their own, however, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke all currently sidelined.

Destiny Udogie is also not expected to return until next year, while Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai are still working their way back to first-team involvement.

Tottenham on high alert as Premier League manager could become free agent in 2026 - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and several Premier League rivals are on high alert amid news that a highly-rated manager could be available this summer.

Thomas Frank is a man under pressure at Tottenham Hotspur, as his early strong start has since unravelled, with results failing to go his way in recent months.

The Spurs manager has managed just two wins from his last nine Premier League outings and has the club sitting in 11th place in the table.

He maintains the backing of sections of the Tottenham board, who are currently choosing to remain patient with the Dane instead of pulling the trigger and relieving him of his duties.

Oliver Glasner set for Crystal Palace exit in the summer

Thomas Frank signed a three-year deal at Tottenham, but he could be dismissed well before that expires following the latest development across London.

According to Cadena SER, it is understood that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will become a free agent in the summer, as he has no intention of renewing his contract beyond the end of the current campaign.

Glasner’s name was on the shortlist at Tottenham earlier this year as the club sought a replacement for former manager Ange Postecoglou, and should he become a free agent amid Frank’s struggles, Spurs could be tempted to make a move for him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the Austrian is set to command interest from several Premier League clubs given his exploits at Selhurst Park, where he won an FA Cup and has the team sitting in fifth place.

Spurs set to face stiff competition for Oliver Glasner

The manager could be a good fit at Spurs, as he has shown he can punch well above his weight with limited financial backing.

However, it is claimed that Manchester United and Chelsea could also be in the running for the 51-year-old should they part ways with their current managers.

Frank is walking a tightrope, and if results do not improve in the coming weeks, he could be dismissed from Tottenham before Glasner is even available.

Tottenham would have tried to sign Everton star had it not been for contract twist - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly identified an experienced Everton star as a primary target, only to see their hopes dashed by a recent contract development.

Reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for a new goalkeeper have only intensified in the past few weeks following a string of high-profile errors from Guglielmo Vicario.

We reported back in November that Spurs had their eye on a world-class goalkeeper, and since then, several names within the Premier League and abroad have popped up as potential options to shore up the backline.

James Trafford of Manchester City has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, while Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen have also been mooted as targets for the north London club.

Tottenham missed out on Jordan Pickford after latest Everton deal

Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe has now confirmed one of the specific names that was on the radar of the club as they look to find a suitable replacement for Vicario.

When replying to supporters regarding potential January targets and goalkeepers who could replace the Italian, the journalist stated that Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford is a player Tottenham would have actively pursued.

However, he added that the England international’s decision to sign a new deal with the Toffees is what effectively prevented Spurs from approaching him, stating: “Spurs would have gone for Pickford if he hadn’t signed a new deal.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Why Jordan Pickford is not a good fit for Spurs

Pickford possesses a wealth of Premier League experience, having spent the last nine years competing in the top division of English football.

He is a solid option, yet his ability to play with the ball at his feet could pose questions at a club like Tottenham, who aim to build from the back under their current tactical setup.
