Description

The Tottenham and England striker is back up front for the club after a frustrating season with a troublesome ankle problem

Dominic Solanke has declared to football.london that "all of my injuries have gone away" after bringing an end to a difficult five months at Tottenham.

The 28-year-old has missed much of Spurs' season with ankle injury and faced a setback when he first returned earlier this season from the problem which has dogged him for months. The England international had injections to try to stop the pain he was feeling in training and a minor procedure to fix the problem which flared up again just when he hoped it was fixed.

Now finally Solanke is pain free and has started back-to-back matches for Tottenham under Thomas Frank, the first games he has started since May and the final match of last season against Brighton.

There is still a way to go for the forward as his game is based on a strong work ethic up front with his running and pressing of opponents and football.london asked him how close he was to being that player again.

"Hopefully soon. I feel good, I feel fit. All of my injuries have gone away. I was out for quite a long time. So I'm obviously not going to get straight up to fitness and start straight away," he said. "I've been training with the team for a bit now and have a few games under my belt. So I'm feeling good.

"It’s always difficult being injured. It’s hard to watch the team knowing you can’t really help or do anything to change that but I’m fit now and feel good and want to do everything I can to help the team.

"We’re only just past the halfway mark and we’ve still got a lot of games to play and still believe we can go on to have a good season. I’m hoping to play a big role in that and we’re all looking for positives."

Tottenham are in Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night and after a tough time in the Premier League with only two wins from 14 matches, the north London club can take their place in the last 16 of the Champions League if they can beat their managerless hosts who have conceded three goals in each of their past five matches.

"We’re seeing this game as a positive. Obviously last year we came here and got a great result. We’re looking to do that again. It’s a great opportunity for us to finish in the top eight. We’re looking forward to the game more than anything," said Solanke.

The striker netted the winning goal in the away leg in Frankfurt back in April to send Tottenham into the Europa League semi-finals.

"Last year we weren’t as good as we wanted to be in the league and we had the European competition to look forward to and that was a huge game in our season," he said.

"We obviously want to win cups at this club and that was a huge part of winning that. We’ve got fond memories of it. It was a close game and we managed to win the game and went on to win the whole trophy so we’ve nothing but good things to say about that game."

The league phase of the Champions League is set to reach its conclusion on Wednesday evening, and there's plenty riding on Tottenham Hotspur's trip to the Deutsche Bank Park to meet Eintracht Frankfurt

Tottenham Hotspur take on Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Arena on Wednesday evening in their final league-stage fixture of the Champions League.

Thomas Frank's endeavours in Europe this year have starkly contrasted Spurs' Premier League performances, with the Lilywhites currently languishing in 14th in the English top flight with seven wins, seven draws and nine losses to show for 2025/26.

However, that's not to say that work isn't still needed in the Champions League this week to ensure the smoothest route to May's final at Budapest's Puskas Arena. Here, Football.London breaks down how things stand for Tottenham Hotspur headed into Wednesday's Champions League clash...

Where Tottenham stand going into the final matchday

As a result of wins over Villarreal, Copenhagen, Slavia Prague and Borussia Dortmund, draws with Bodo/Glimt and Monaco, and a single loss to Paris Saint-Germain, Spurs are in incredibly good stead headed into the next round of the Champions League. At the time of writing, the Lilywhites sit fifth in the European standings, looking likely to automatically qualify for the round of 16.

The lowest and highest places Tottenham can finish in the league standings

A win over Eintracht Frankfurt could see Spurs leap to third in the Champions League standings, should Real Madrid drop points to Benfica and Liverpool manage a loss or a draw in their clash with Qarabag. A draw, meanwhile, could see PSG, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sporting CP, Atletico Madrid, and Atalanta overtake them outright should they achieve victory.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan and Juventus could also find themselves above the Premier League side with wins if they can overhaul goal difference. A loss for Spurs would also allow Frank's side to be overtaken by Borussia Dortmund - who are currently three points shy. However, the Bundesliga titans would have to make up four goals on the Lilywhites to have a chance of overtaking.

Should Spurs falter to Eintracht Frankfurt, and the above teams secure victory, it could see the club drop to a lowly 16th in the Champions League standings.

What each position Tottenham can finish in would mean

Position is incredibly important in this year's instalment of the Champions League, especially to those who secure a top-eight placement. The top two teams will see a home advantage for the second leg of their Champions League knockout clashes, which looks increasingly likely to be Arsenal and Bayern Munich at the time of writing.

The top four, meanwhile, will see second-leg home advantage in the round of 16 and quarter-final clashes, meaning the club would hold the benefit of playing said fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should they advance slightly on their current position.

The top eight places in the league stages will also hold a home advantage in the second legs against sides progressing through the play-off round. Should Spurs slip into ninth or lower, their place in the round of 16 also goes out of the window, and they will be forced to play another match against a team between ninth and 24th to secure their spot.

The list of teams Tottenham can still currently end up facing in the next round

Should the table remain as is after the final round of fixtures, Spurs will face one of the following teams in the round of 16:

Barcelona

Sporting CP

Manchester City

Atletico Madrid

Inter Milan

Atalanta

Juventus

Borussia Dortmund

Galatasaray

Qarabag

Marseille

Bayer Leverkusen

Monaco

PSV Eindhoven

Athletic Club

Olympiakos

However, Napoli, Copenhagen, Club Brugge, Bodo/Glimt, Benfica, Pafos, Union Saint-Gilloise and Ajax could also still qualify for the play-offs. The only sides that are guaranteed to leave the Champions League on Wednesday are Eintracht Frankfurt, Slavia Prague, Villarreal and Kairat.

Every word Thomas Frank said on Kolo Muani car crash, transfers, Porro, Van de Ven and Kinsky - Football London
Description

Here's every word the Tottenham Hotspur boss said at his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Champions League match at Eintracht Frankfurt

Thomas Frank faced the media at his press conference on Tuesday evening in Germany ahead of Tottenham's Champions League match at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Spurs know that a victory against a managerless Frankfurt side that has nothing to play for will book their spot in the round of 16. Tottenham's European adventures have been good, but Premier League form under Frank has been dreadful with just two victories from 14 matches, including Saturday's disappointing draw at 19th-placed Burnley.

Frank was asked about his future, the prospect of further transfers in the final days of the winter transfer window and the latest injury updates, including a car accident involving Randal Kolo Muani.

The Spurs forward, on loan from PSG, was driving from the club's Enfield training ground to Stansted Airport on Tuesday to catch the team flight to Germany when he was involved in an accident that left the right-hand side of his Ferrari smashed, his windscreen cracked and his airbag deployed.

The 27-year-old Frenchman's compatriot Wilson Odobert was behind him on the motorway and pulled over to check that his team-mate was alright after the accident.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those putting the questions to Frank. Here's the full transcript from the press conference at the Deutsche Bank Park.

What's the latest team news, plus there's a photo of Odobert and Kolo Muani in a car crash?

There are a few things to report. Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert are both fine. Unfortunately they were both involved in a minor accident … everyone else involved in that accident was fine. It was a tyre blowing up and so the two of them are a little bit delayed. But they will land later tonight. Then, Pedro hasn’t travelled. Unfortunately he picked up a hamstring injury to be out for four weeks. Micky has not travelled. Minor thing. It’s possible he’s available for the weekend.

Do you have a Dejan Kulusevski update?

No, I don’t have any update on that one.

The Premier League and Champions League form have been miles apart. Why? Do the players feel more pressure in Premier League games and freed up more in Europe? It must be driving you crazy?

First foremost, tomorrow, for me, we have a great opportunity to secure a position in the top eight. Which would be a very good result, a very good achievement. Be very positive. We’re looking forward to that. That’s what we are focusing everything we can on. The other thing is that I think the performances for a while have been good in many ways. We just haven’t got on the right side enough to get the three points. We working very hard on that. Sometimes you are on that spell, the players are giving you everything but for me tomorrow, it’s all about the opportunity.

How confident are you of getting another player through the door before the transfer window closes?

We are in the market. We do everything we can to see if we can improve the squad. We said that the whole time. I think it's, of course, when things are not exactly what we wanted and we have some injuries, you can be pushed and forced to take decisions you don't really want to take if everything was on top.

So we need to be very, very smart and cool and calm and take good decisions to help us to optimise short-term success, but also secure long-term success.

Could I just ask a little more detail on the car accident? Were they coming to the airport or to training and were they both in that car?

I'm actually in doubt if they were both in that car, if I'm honest, but they were together. But they're fine, it was on the way to the airport.

We sat in this very room last season with your predecessor on what felt like a knife edge that if you lost, maybe you'd lose the job. At the end of the season, you won thanks to Dom and his penalty and turned it around, does it feel like you're on a knife edge again and does that make things harder?

I can't speak about last year, Dom can maybe talk about that in a second. For me, I see an opportunity ahead of us tomorrow that we want to do everything we can to grapple with both hands. I think it's quite clear, I said before the Dortmund one, that with just a small time in injuries and the squad list, we have limited players available.

So since that game, Lucas unfortunately is not available and Pedro. So the good news is, we have Pape back from winning AFCON with Senegal. He was not in the squad on the weekend because he had some illness, so he's not super where he should be, but he's available.

I think with Joao Palhinha, he's also available, so that's also a positive. So I think we have, again, I think 11 outfield players. Then great opportunities for academy players coming on off the bench.

We saw Jun’ai got a fantastic debut against Dortmund. We are confident we can produce a result and that’s what we’ll go for tomorrow.

Back to the car accident, I know you’ve got a lot of things going on at the moment…

Ah, a few things!

Were they both shaken? Are they both in the right frame of mind to perform?

That is my absolute understanding of everything. I haven’t spoken to them personally yet. The first message is that they are fine and nothing happened, as I said the first time. They will fly out later and I fully expect both to be available for tomorrow.

The Champions League results - how proud are you so far of them and do you think you’ve had the credit you deserve for them?

I think it’s… again, it’s not about me. It’s about us. I’m very happy that the team and club are in a position where with a win tomorrow we can finish top eight in the best club tournament in the world. It’s super, super competitive, as we know. So that, we are very pleased with. Those results and some of those performances are also what we need to take going forward, of course, and build on that.

Again, it’s my job to look a little bit in the bigger perspective. Even though we haven’t won as much as we want, it’s very, very few things that need to go our way, the small margins, keep doing the right thing, keep improving things we want to do, getting quality players back as Dominic Solanke has talked about before.

Dom is huge for us, he’s been out for six months. To have your main striker and top-scorer out, I’d like to see some of the other teams be without that as well. So that means something.

Dom is a physical beast and has a great mentality but of course he push it to the limit as well, coming from being off the bench, playing 50 minutes, then 70 minutes coming off with cramp then 90 minutes. He’s pushing everything he can but it’s a tough job with short turnarounds.

Another injury for the team with Pedro Porro, it must feel like one thing after another?

It definitely does not help any of us. Of course, we prefer to have the best players out there on the pitch. Any coach wants that and any teammate wants that, but we also have a squad and need other players to step up as they’ve done and perform

Is it is easier to focus mentally on the Champions League?

Maybe there’s not a specific science behind it but the mental and physical load on players to produce every third and fourth game is so big and it’s more difficult to do that. And the bigger the competition, the progress from Europa League to Champions League means better teams and you need to give more and for that you need players and a squad that’s not used to it but learning all the time to go out and produce the way I want so that’s a big thing. And a lot of teams are adapting. Newcastle spoke a lot about it when they were first in the Champions League a couple of years ago. And even this season as well. So we just need to learn and keep producing. Sometimes it’s the small things where even if you’re doing them you don’t get the result and then the whole thing is a catastrophe but actually behind the scenes there’s a lot of things going in the right direction.

Are you happy with Antonin Kinsky, there's been links with him to West Ham?

In general, happy with Kinsky. He’s a great keeper. I think any player wants to play but we also need good players if something happens with Vic for example.

With Micky is it a hamstring?

It’s just a minor thing. We expect him to be a big possibility for City.

Not a hamstring?

It’s not a hamstring.

You're facing an Eintracht Frankfurt team in crisis, what do you make of them?

We have studied them closely. They may not be in their best form, but it’s a team that has done fantastic in the league last year and I still think they have done some fantastic games this season. They just played 3-3 with Dortmund I think four or five games ago. They have very good players and they have a clear identity in what they want to do. I expect a very difficult game. We know they are very good in the transitions. I know on paper they don’t have anything to play for but sometimes you can play free, I have been in this game long enough that you never know what you’re going to face. We have to focus on us with big respect for Frankfurt and all their strengths.

BREAKING: Thomas Frank addresses Tottenham car crash as two players involved in Ferrari collision - Football London
Description

Thomas Frank has addressed matters after Wilson Odobert and Randal Kolo Muani were involved in a car crash.

The Tottenham Hotspur players were photographed standing in a layby near a wrecked Ferrari, with the car's right-hand side totalled and the airbag inflated.

The two do not appear to be hurt as a result of the collision, and are stood in Tottenham training gear with their hoods up. It has since emerged that the car involved in the crash belongs to Kolo Muani, with Odobert following him in a separate vehicle.

It comes as Spurs are currently putting the final touches on their preparations for a Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Arena on Wednesday evening.

Now, speaking about incident at a press conference ahead of Wednesday's match, Frank has confirmed that both players are fine and will travel to Germany later tonight.

Frank said: "Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert are both fine. They were unfortunately involved in a minor accident.

"Everyone else involved is fine. It was a tyre blowing up. They will be travelling a little later tonight."

The Lilywhites sit fifth in the league standings headed into the fixture, and will hold high hopes of securing automatic qualification to the tournament's round of 16.

Elsewhere in his press conference, Frank explained to the media that a number of players will miss Wednesday's match as a result of injury.

He added: "Pedro [Porro] has a hamstring injury and will be out for four weeks. Micky [Van de Ven] has something minor and hasn't travelled but could be available for City.

"Pape [Matar Sarr] is available again and so is Joao Palhinha."

Speaking about how Spurs turn their season around and push on in Europe, meanwhile, Frank revealed that having players back from injury will be a major boost.

He continued: "We need to keep doing the right things and improve the things we want to do. Also getting players back.

Tottenham transfer plans ahead of January window deadline explained with deals expected for Thomas Frank

Tottenham travel to Germany for their final Champions League group phase clash against Eintracht Frankfurt but behind the scenes, there is no shortage of transfer activity

Under-fire Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has already made it clear he does not want to weaken his squad any further ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

However, Spurs are attempting to swat away vast interest in a number of their players and there could still be at least one departure before February 2.

Frank, who is feeling the heat again following Saturday's 2-2 draw at Burnley, has been forced to name a number of youth players in Tottenham's travelling squad for their final Champions League group phase fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt due to availability issues.

Yves Bissouma, Mathys Tel and new signings Conor Gallagher and Souza are not registered to feature in the Champions League while there is some concern Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro could miss the contest as they were both absent from open training at Hotspur Way on Tuesday morning.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE! Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Antonin Kinsky was present despite strong reports claiming he is close to joining West Ham on an initial loan. The same applies to Randal Kolo Muani, who is attracting interest from Juventus where he spent time on loan during the second half of last season.

Any deal would require Tottenham to sanction the early termination of his current loan and there would also need to be an agreement between Juve and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.

Understandably, the Europa League winners would be reluctant to warm to that proposition given they're already notably light on numbers in attack but the desire of the player could carry weight given he has his heart set on a place in France's World Cup squad.

Kolo Muani is evidently behind Dominic Solanke in the Tottenham pecking order at this moment in time and the Frenchman's form has also nose-dived in the past two months, when he has also found himself playing out of position on the wing.

As reported by football.london earlier this month, Kinsky is keen to leave Tottenham on loan now they're out of both domestic cup competitions because outside of a potential injury to Guglielmo Vicario, there's a firm chance he may not play again this season.

West Ham have been probing for several weeks but any agreement would require Spurs to source a replacement for the Czech. If that proves difficult then it's hard to see a deal going through but it's a story that just won't go away, perhaps indicating there's a real chance it materialises.

Meanwhile, Torino are optimistic they will conclude an initial loan deal for Spurs youngster Callum Olusesi after Tottenham have played Frankfurt. The 18-year-old has travelled with the squad to Germany and the Italians are also seeking to negotiate a potential buy-option within the deal.

Rio Kyerematen (20), Malachi Hardy (17) and James Rowswell (19) are also understood to have travelled to Frankfurt with the Tottenham squad alongside last week's debutant Jun'ai Byfield, per images on the club's website.

So far, Spurs have continued to hold firm amid huge interest in defender Radu Dragusin. Roma have already seen one loan approach rebuffed but other clubs are now entering the fray with RB Leipzig, Napoli and AC Milan all linked.

Roma are also believed to have had an enquiry knocked back for Tel according to sources close to the player, though it's unclear when that contact took place. It goes without saying that Spurs do not want to lose the former Bayern Munich winger this month despite his omission from Frank's recently-updated Champions League squad.

Ange Postecoglou set to travel to Newcastle as under-pressure Eddie Howe facing crunch game - Football London
Description

Former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been out of work since he was dismissed by Nottingham Forest in October

Just days after observing Arsenal in Champions League action, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will be monitoring another Premier League side closely. Postecoglou has been keeping himself busy in his fresh capacity as a UEFA technical observer, having witnessed Mikel Arteta's Gunners claim a 3-1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro last week.

This Wednesday, he'll be stationed at the Parc des Princes to observe Newcastle United's clash with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. Both sides enter the encounter level on 13 points, with a top-eight league phase finish in line for the winner.

According to UEFA's official description, 'The UEFA Technical Observer Group will be monitoring UEFA's club competitions in depth, with stats and video assistance enabling them to deliver detailed reports on the latest developments in coaching which are shared among the footballing community to give a dynamic account of the state of the game'.

Postecoglou isn't the only former Premier League boss chosen for the role, with others including Gareth Southgate, Roberto Martinez and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The technical observers select the player of the match for each fixture they oversee, whilst also contributing to determining the player, young player, team and goals of the season.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE!Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Postecoglou's official assessment of the Inter versus Arsenal match was published on UEFA's website. "[Gabriel] Jesus' alertness in the box gave Arsenal a cutting edge to complement their ability to create opportunities from various avenues,"

"Both goals [scored by Gabriel Jesus] were instinctive. The first was from a mis-hit shot that he was able to capitalise on and the second from a rebound off the crossbar. Both are a demonstration of a goalscorer's instincts as, while others are watching, he is anticipating an opportunity to score".

Postecoglou, who left Spurs over the summer, briefly returned to management with Nottingham Forest in September. He oversaw two Europa League fixtures during his tenure at the City Ground but was gone within weeks and hasn't returned to the dugout since Forest gave him his marching orders in October.

The Australian tasted glory in the Europa League final with Spurs last term and has Champions League experience with Celtic. This week, he will be observing another manager who finds himself under scrutiny, with Newcastle chief Eddie Howe not believed to be in immediate danger but still feeling the pressure after a weekend defeat at home to Aston Villa.

Description

Thomas Frank is holding his press conference on Tuesday evening ahead of Tottenham's Champions League match at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Spurs travel to Germany knowing that a victory against a managerless Frankfurt side that cannot progress to the knockout stages will book their own place in the round of 16, as finishing in the top eight in the big league phase guarantees those clubs will miss out on the play-off stage.

Frank needs all the positive results he can get right now as while Tottenham's European adventures have been good, their Premier League form has been dreadful with just two wins from 14 matches, including Saturday's disappointing draw at 19th-placed Burnley which was only grabbed by captain Cristian Romero's late goal.

Frank will be asked about his future as well as the prospect of further transfers in the final days of the winter transfer window. The Dane will also provide updates on Joao Palhinha's injury as well as any fresh concerns with Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven not spotted in training.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Frank as well as his striker Dominic Solanke. Scroll down for the latest updates from the press conference at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Tottenham ready to finance two transfers before deadline as midfielder lined up for exit - Football London
Description

football.london is on hand to provide you with the latest Tottenham transfer state of play ahead of the rapidly-approaching February 2 deadline

Tottenham have already brought in two new January arrivals in the form of Conor Gallagher and Souza. However, the Europa League winners may not be finished yet in the market despite uncertainty over the future of head coach Thomas Frank.

Frank has already made one thing clear; his preference would be that no more players depart N17 before next week's January 2 deadline.

Instead, he would ideally like the club to focus on incomings with a wide forward still among Tottenham's top priorities.

When Spurs ruthlessly sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35million, supporters were optimistic the board already had a replacement lined up.

But signing a top-class forward mid-season has so far proven difficult. Enquiries were made for Yan Diomande but RB Leipzig won't consider offers until the summer and Spurs were also ready to move on Antoine Semenyo but were effectively ousted by Manchester City.

Maghnes Akliouche of AS Monaco remains appreciated but Tottenham are yet to make any concrete moves for the Frenchman, who is a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The cash is there to spend but Spurs do not want to risk making a big-money mistake and given Frank is under enormous pressure, there's an argument it wouldn't make logical sense to invest huge cash on a player specifically tailored to an under-fire head coach's brand of football.

A deal for Andy Robertson has also been placed on hold until the summer when the Scotland captain is due to leave Liverpool as a free agent.

Spurs were ready to pay a small fee to land the 31-year-old left-back after losing Ben Davies to a fractured ankle.

Liverpool, however, are now indicating they won't sanction Robertson's departure this month as they're light on numbers.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE! Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Tottenham had agreed a deal in principle with their Premier League counterparts that would have seen Robertson arrive in north London after Wednesday's final Champions League group phase match against Qarabag.

But that verbal agreement has now been pulled because AS Roma have struggled to find a replacement for Kostas Tsimikas, who could return to Liverpool from his loan this month even though there is no recall clause.

Spurs still have a very slim chance of landing Robertson before the deadline but that would require Roma to sign left wing-back cover amid interest in Wolves' David Moller Wolfe.

Unfortunately, it is possible there are more exits even though there have already been a raft of departures. Manor Solomon moved to Fiorentina on loan - terminating his Villarreal loan prematurely - with an £8.7m buy-option.

Kota Takai headed out on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach and Yang Min-hyeok joined Coventry City on loan, terminating his Portsmouth loan early.

There's been movement elsewhere too with Jamie Donley teaming up with Will Lankshear at Oxford United following a short spell on loan at Stoke. That deal is also an initial loan with a buy-option.

Spurs U19 striker Oliver Irow has also headed to League One side Mansfield Town on loan, where he notched two goals on his debut.

Italian reports claim Torino are interested in signing Callum Olusesi on an initial loan that could also include a permanent option. Fellow Serie A club Roma are not only targeting Radu Dragusin but they're also interested in Mathys Tel.

They aren't alone though as Paris FC and Villarreal are also keen but Spurs have no desire to let the Frenchman leave, even though he's thought to be unhappy with being removed from the club's Champions League squad.

Dragusin wants to play regular football following his return from knee surgery but Spurs are reluctant to weaken their squad even further. Unless a suitable permanent offer lands on the table, the Romanian will be staying put.

Antonin Kinsky would like to go on loan but any deal would require Spurs to also sign a replacement, which appears unlikely and does not make too much sense.

Talks between Tottenham and Liverpool over a deal for Andy Robertson have stalled but Spurs remain keen on concluding a deal for the 31-year-old Scotland captain

Liverpool sources insist Andy Robertson will not be leaving Anfield for Tottenham this January.

However, Roma are still working on securing a potential replacement for loanee Kostas Tsimikas and should a deal materialise, there is a small possibility Spurs' interest in Robertson could yet be revived before next week's January 2 deadline.

The Italian side have had contact with Liverpool about terminating Tsimikas' loan, though that is only likely to happen after their final Europa League group phase match at Panathinaikos on Thursday.

Sporting director Ricky Massara has confirmed those discussions, telling Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “It’s true, there is a discussion with Liverpool. We’ll see how the solution evolves in the coming days.”

Roma have also already held initial talks over a move for Wolves wing-back David Moller Wolfe, who has been an unused substitute in each of his current side's last three Premier League matches.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE!Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Wolfe has also been subject of interest from Turkish giants Besiktas and is not the only name on Roma's shortlist.

Other targets include Atletico Madrid's Matteo Ruggeri and 19-year-old Toulouse gem Dayann Methalie.

Should Roma secure an agreement for either of those players, there's a firm chance Tsimikas could head back to Liverpool.

Spurs are said to have agreed a deal in principle to sign Robertson once this week's final Champions League group phase fixtures are out of the way. Liverpool have since pulled the plug on that, however.

There have also been rumblings that the verbal agreement was worth around £5million inclusive of bonuses.

Robertson is not thought to be pushing desperately to depart Liverpool this month and there's recognition at Anfield that it makes little sense to move him on this window.

Milos Kerkez was subbed off at half-time in the 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth because he was "in the red zone" while Joe Gomez was also forced off through injury.

Arne Slot's defensive numbers are significantly depleted and outside of maybe recalling Tsimikas, they are not expected to do any other further transfer business this month.

Robertson will become a free agent on June 30, providing there are no fresh developments in terms of Liverpool offering him a fresh contract.

He joined the Premier League champions from Hull City in the summer of 2017 and has won nine trophies during his nine-year spell on Merseyside.

Tottenham brought forward their interest in the Scotland captain after losing Ben Davies to a fractured ankle.

The injury required not one but two operations and there's a strong likelihood the Wales international has now played his final game for Spurs.

The arrival of teenage left-back Souza from Santos means the Europa League winners are still well stocked at left-back with Djed Spence already competing with Destiny Udogie for a starting berth.
