It feels like the walls are starting to close in on Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Australian might be two favourable games away from a Europa League Final, but there can be no denying that domestically, at least, this season has been nothing short of a horror show.

In the Premier League, for example, his side have lost 18 games, which may have been relegation form in seasons past.

So it's not been surprising to see reports linking the club to potential replacements again in recent weeks, including one candidate who could be something of a Mauricio Pochettino repeat.

Tottenham's manager search

Before getting to the man in question, it's worth looking at some of the other names that have recently been touted for moves to N17, such as former player Scott Parker.

The former midfielder has just led Burnley to a record-breaking promotion to the Premier League, his third overall, but it would be fair to say that this feels like an appointment that would upset more fans than it would please, considering how he's got on in, the top-flight previously.

However, a name that might inspire more hope in the Lilywhites faithful is Marco Silva.

The Portuguese manager has been in the Fulham hot seat since July 2021 and, to his credit, has done a marvellous job, turning what has been a yo-yo club in the past into a comfortable mid-table side.

Yet, when it comes to managers overachieving with their club this season, it's impossible to overlook Andoni Iraola, and it seems like Spurs aren't.

According to a recent report from the Mail Online, there is a feeling at the club that Postecoglou will be axed regardless of what happens in Europe and that the Spaniard would be among the leading candidates to replace him when a decision is made.

It would be a bold, exciting, and potentially risky appointment, but the club should follow through with it, especially as it would feel similar to Pochettino's hiring.

Why Iraola could be Poch 2.0

So, while it might sound like a reach, there are some clear reasons why hiring Iraola could be something of a Pochettino repeat.

For example, like the Argentine with Southampton, he would be moving from a club he's transformed from relegation fodder into a genuine top-half contender in Bournemouth.

Moreover, unlike Parker, for example, the Spaniard, who analyst Ben Mattinson claims is "one of the best in the league," has an evident dedication to playing entertaining, exciting football - his side has scored just nine goals fewer than second-place Arsenal - like Poch, but not to the point of self-sabotage, as Postecoglou has been prone to in the past.

On top of that, he'd be coming in to help build something in North London with a squad that has some more senior stars in it but plenty of young and tremendously exciting prospects as well, like Mikey Moore, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

Last but not least, before the current USMNT boss was handed the reins in N17, he led former side Espanyol to two surprising mid-table finishes in La Liga, which saw him get the job on the south coast.

Likewise, before making his way to Dorset, the Cherries boss built quite a reputation for himself in Spain, helping guide perennial underdogs Rayo Vallecano to an unexpected promotion in 2021.

Ultimately, Iraola has the CV, the playing style and the potential to be a sensational appointment for Spurs, and the fact that his hiring could so closely mirror Pochettino's is just the icing on top.

Tottenham make transfer plans amid Ange Postecoglou uncertainty

Right now, it is being reported that under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou is facing the Spurs axe at the end of this Premier League campaign, which could happen regardless of whether they end up winning the Europa League.

This news comes courtesy of reliable journalist Matt Law and other credible media sources, with a parting of the ways becoming increasingly likely after Tottenham suffered their eighteenth Premier League defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest on Easter Monday.

While the Lilywhites have a major chance to clinch their first piece of silverware in 17 years, that still may not be enough to save Postecoglou after a dismal domestic season, but their problems lie beyond just the manager.

Tottenham's lack of strength in depth when compared to their elite Premier League rivals was exposed time and time again this season, thanks to the plethora of injuries to key players throughout 2024/2025, so this is an issue which needs addressing in the summer.

"[The top clubs have] been doing it many years. They know exactly what they're doing," said winger Dejan Kuluseviski, who criticised Spurs' transfer policy.

"They're bringing in a lot of players that are ready to play both competitions. And they are prepared for it.

"This year we cannot say that we're prepared for it because we had so many injuries, and we did a lot of things wrong from the beginning of the season, and we're paying for it right now."

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, in a piece for The Boot Room, Tottenham are planning to strengthen "almost all areas" of the squad in the next transfer window, but they must first raise funds.

Bailey also writes that star right-back Pedro Porro could be among the players sacrificed, with the emergence of 24-year-old Djed Spence as an impressive full-back option handing Spurs a ready-made replacement for the Spaniard.

Tottenham are apparently "ready to sell" Porro and bolster their transfer kitty, but will demand north of £50 million for the ex-Man City and Sporting Lisbon defender as Levy eyes a small profit on the £40 million they paid for him.

While Porro has impressed, Spurs' need to reinforce multiple areas of the squad is taking centre stage, and Spence has showcased that he's more than capable of being entrusted with a regular starting spot on either flank.

According to reliable media sources, like journalist Matt Law of The Telegraph, a parting of the ways with Postecoglou is growing more and more likely - even if Spurs do end up winning the Europa League and their first piece of silverware in 17 years.

The north Londoners face off against Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals after beating Eintracht Frankfurt in the last round, and if they get past this year's fairy-tale overachievers, then Postecoglou will be just one game away from ending Tottenham's trophy drought.

It would be the perfect end to an otherwise disappointing domestic campaign, with Spurs on course for their worst ever finish in the Premier League and just one match away from equalling their record for most defeats in a single season.

Postecoglou has been dealt a plethora of injuries to key players throughout 2024/2025, which undoubtedly crippled Spurs' chances of success, but there is a serious argument that 16th in the league still simply isn't good enough.

Unrest surrounds the club right now, not just regarding Postecoglou, but also the current running of Tottenham by chairman Daniel Levy and ENIC, with disgruntled supporters protesting against their ownership on a consistent basis.

Whoever potentially succeeds Postecoglou will have a mighty job on their hands, and Levy needs to get this appointment amid mounting pressure.

Tottenham are believed to be targeting Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva, according to multiple reports, while the likes of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Brentford's Thomas Frank have also been linked.

However, while these names have performed impressively on shoe-string budgets, the aforementioned tacticians boast just one major trophy between them.

Some critics may be underwhelmed by this, but according to former Spurs scout Mick Brown, Tottenham are looking at a "higher profile" manager with "star status" to come in and "transform" them into a winning team.

“There’s no doubt Frank has done a fantastic job at Brentford,” Brown told Football Insider, commenting on the links to the Bees boss.

“But’s a completely different job to managing Tottenham Hotspur. His job at Brentford cannot be questioned, he’s done better than many others would have, and everybody I speak to has a lot of respect and admiration for him.

“The issue is, Tottenham have had about 15 well-respected managers who have done jobs elsewhere.

“I think they’re looking at higher-profile managers to come in and transform them into a winning outfit.

“I don’t know whether Frank meets that star status they’re looking for."

Despite coming off a sensational result in the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur returned to their lacklustre form at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

It was their 18th defeat in the Premier League and leaves them just a point above West Ham United in 17th place, so it's not much of a surprise to see stories about Ange Postecoglou's future returning.

One of the names most heavily touted to replace him at the end of the season is Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, who has managed to lead the Cherries up to eighth place, partly thanks to their brilliant attack.

On top of being linked with a new manager, the North Londoners have also been linked with a plethora of exciting players, including one who'd be perfect under Iraola, were he to get the job.

Tottenham want to sign Premier League attacker

With how terribly this season has gone for Spurs, it's unsurprising that they have been linked with so many players in recent weeks, such as Matheus Cunha.

The North Londoners are reportedly willing to pay up to £75m to land the Brazilian star ahead of the other interested parties, and while that's an enormous sum of money, it might be worth it, as he's managed to amass a tally of 16 goals and four assists in 31 games this year, despite playing for a bottom half side.

A slightly cheaper target the club have supposedly been looking at has been Tyler Dibling.

The Southampton gem could be available for around £35m in the summer, and while he likely wouldn't make an instant impact on the first team, he would be yet another tremendously exciting youngster on the club's books.

However, if instant impact is what the fans are after, then the links to Marcus Rashford should excite them.

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Spurs have now rekindled their interest in Premier League star Marcus Rashford, who has found some form of late on loan with Aston Villa.

The report claims that the 62-capped Englishman 'is expected to leave Manchester United during the upcoming summer transfer window' and that should the Villans decide against paying £40m to sign him, the North Londoners will step in.

It could be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but given his immense quality, it's worth fighting for, especially as he could be incredible under Iraola.

Why Rashford would be a great signing for Spurs

So, the first thing to say is that, regardless of who is in the hot seat next season, Rashford would be a good addition to Spurs' squad, and the last few months have shown that.

For example, since moving to Villa, the Manchester-born monster has been electric, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 17 appearances, totalling just 940 minutes.

That means the often "unplayable" 27-year-old, as dubbed by analyst Raj Chohan, is currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.7 games or every 94 minutes, which is the sort of output the Lilywhites could really do with.

However, there is every chance that, under Iraola, he could be even better.

Now, this is obviously all theoretical at this point, but we know from this season that, when he has a summer to prepare his players, the Spaniard can extract some seriously impressive attacking numbers out of his frontline players.

For example, Justin Kluivert has produced 21 goal involvements compared to 11 last year, Antoine Semenyo has produced 16 compared to 11 and even Dango Ouattara has managed 13 compared to just three last year.

So, if he's been able to improve those players that much within the space of just a season, imagine what he'd be able to do with a player as talented as Rashford.

Ultimately, while this might be a complicated transfer to get over the line, Spurs should do all they can to get it done, especially if they hire Iraola.

Ange Postecoglou likely to leave Spurs regardless of Europa League

On Tuesday, journalist Matt Law of The Telegraph reported via his sources that Postecoglou is increasingly likely to leave Spurs at the end of the season - regardless of what happens in the Europa League.

The Lilywhites have suffered 18 top flight defeats this season, and they're just one game away from equalling their record number of Premier League losses in a single season.

It's been a dismal 2024/25 on the English front, with Spurs also out of every domestic cup. Postecoglou could yet save Tottenham's season by clinching the Europa League and winning the club's first piece of major silverware since the League Cup in 2008, which would also gift the north Londoners a spot in next season's Champions League draw.

European glory still may not be enough to save Postecoglou, though, with Law claiming chairman Daniel Levy and the 59-year-old could still part ways, even if success does come in the Europa.

This follows on from a similar report courtesy of John Cross in The Mirror, so Postecoglou's potential N17 exit is gaining more traction amid rumours of Spurs eyeing the likes of Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva.

Both tacticians have impressed at their respective clubs this term, with Fulham and Bournemouth still outside contenders to qualify for Europe despite operating on shoe-string budgets compared to their more elite rivals.

Bournemouth are attempting to agree a new deal with Iraola, though, while Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan has admitted the club would love to keep Silva at Craven Cottage.

That being said, Iraola and Silva's contracts both contain release clauses, with the latter's coming in at around £8 million.

Previous reports have suggested that Silva has emerged as a frontrunner for the Tottenham job (talkSPORT), with Iraola more inclined to remain at Bournemouth, so the Portuguese's potential appointment could be one to watch.

Tottenham set for "big decision" with Marco Silva considered

Speaking to GiveMeSport, reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has shared his own update on Spurs' pursuit of the former Everton and Hull City boss.

Silva's former striker at Hull, Evandro, recently heaped praise on the 47-year-old as a "master" tactician, with his statement making an interesting read for Spurs supporters.

"He is a master,” said the player to Premier League Brasil.

“I like to put Marco Silva on the same level as Sampaoli, because he has a management model that I also look up to. Marco Silva has an excellent way of managing the group and his greatest characteristic is being rational and not emotional.

“I believe that in this role as a coach, if you let emotions take over, things get lost easily, because in football you have to deal with fans and the press.”

Tottenham Hotspur are now weighing up an offer for a defender, who plays for one of their bitter rivals, amid doubts over Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s futures, according to a report.

Interest in Van de Ven and Romero growing

As we approach the summer transfer window, it is looking increasingly likely Tottenham could lose at least one of their centre-backs this summer, with Romero attracting widespread attention, and a Premier League club are now in the race for the Argentine.

Earlier this month, it was revealed Aston Villa were ready to offer a five-year contract to the defender, with chairman Daniel Levy open to selling him for the right price, amid interest from European heavyweights Real Madrid.

The Blues are looking to make a quick profit on the 21-year-old, who they signed for just £12m, but there are doubts over whether they would consider selling him to their bitter rivals, which poses a problem for Tottenham.

Not only that, but the Lilywhites may not be willing to shell out £30m for a player who has only featured sporadically for both Chelsea and loan club Juventus this season.

The 6'3 defender was described as a "hidden gem" by Ben Mattinson during his time with FC Basel, with the scout also highlighting his ability to play at left-back and central midfield, which could make him a versatile option for Postecoglou.

Not only that, but after a tough start to the campaign with Chelsea, the starlet has now established himself as an important player for Juventus in the Serie A, starting the last four games, while he has also amassed four caps for national side Portugal.

Not only that, but the Portugal international is clearly a strong tackler and able to drive the ball forward from defence, given his performance on some key metrics over the past year, when compared to other centre-backs.

It is unfortunate that Chelsea may be unwilling to sell Veiga to Tottenham this summer, as he is now starting to show signs he could go on to be a top centre-back.

Spurs pursuing midfielder amid Bissouma uncertainty

Yves Bissouma has fallen down the pecking order this season, with the midfielder remaining on the bench throughout Monday night's 2-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, and there have been suggestions Tottenham could look to cash-in this summer.

The same report details that Rodrigo Bentancur's future may also be in doubt, given that Ange Postecoglou is unhappy with his options in the middle of the park, which means at least one new midfielder may need to be brought.

Versatile Manchester City gem Nico O'Reilly is one of the latest players to be shortlisted, although it may be difficult to prise the youngster away from the reigning Premier League champions, and there are other options in mind.

Como's Nico Paz and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson are also well-liked, with the latter player now considering a move to north London, despite interest from Man City, in what could be viewed as a boost for Spurs.

Tottenham are clearly looking at options from far and wide, with a report from Caught Offside revealing they have now joined the race for Sporting CP's Morten Hjulmand, who is attracting attention due to his technical and leadership skills.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen on Hjulmand, and the Dane has a €80m (£69m) release clause in his contract, although Sporting may consider bids of €50m - €60m (£43m - £52m) this summer, at which point they could look to cash-in.

Spurs are now looking to submit an opening offer below the 25-year-old's release clause, as they continue to run the rule over potential replacements for Bissouma.

Tottenham's hopes of reaching next season's Champions League were boosted after booking their place in the Europa League semi-final last week, and scout Ben Mattinson believes the Sporting maestro is capable of playing as a 6 or 8 or a side in Europe's elite competition.

The Denmark international has been a key player for title-chasing Sporting CP this season, showcasing his leadership abilities by captaining the Portuguese side, and his defensive competence suggests he could be a solid signing for Tottenham.

Of course, it is by no means a guarantee that Hjulmand would be able to make the step-up to the Premier League, but his displays for Sporting in the Champions League indicate he is capable of performing at the highest level.

Spurs pursuing full-backs amid Udogie interest

Tottenham's performances in the Premier League this season are a major cause for concern, but Destiny Udogie has done enough to attract the attention of Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola's side pushing to sign the 22-year-old.

As such, Ange Postecoglou may be tasked with bringing in a new left-back this summer, should the 59-year-old remain in his post as manager, and AC Milan's Theo Hernandez has now been identified as a key target.

Forest are looking to offer Aina a new long-term contract, in a bid to ward off the interest from elsewhere, but it could be difficult to retain his services, with Spurs expected to open agent talks in the near future.

The right-back's current deal is set to expire at the end of the summer, which means he could be available on a free transfer, should he fail to agree fresh terms with Forest.

Having impressed for the Tricky Trees, the London-born defender has been described as "the best right-back in the Premier League" by former Nigeria international Julius Aghahowa, proving himself as "effective" in both defence and attack.

Pedro Porro has received criticism for some of his defensive performances at times this season, which suggests it could be wise for Tottenham to bring in a new right-back this summer, despite Djed Spence being one of their "best performers".

Aina has proven himself to be one of the best options available, given the level of his performances this season, and his potential availability on a free transfer is an added bonus for Tottenham.

It is little wonder some of Europe's top clubs are now queuing up for the starlet, given the level of his performances since breaking into the Man City side, scoring twice in his last two Premier League outings, including what could be a very important effort against Everton last time out.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has clearly been impressed by the City academy graduate's recent displays, lauding him as "amazing" earlier this month, while also describing him as a "versatile and quality player", given the job he has done at left-back.

That said, it seems unlikely that Tottenham will be able to sign the England U20 international this summer, considering he is now closing in on a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium, which means they may have to move on to other attacking midfield targets, of which there is no shortage.

Bournemouth are open to negotiations over a move, which suggests the door could be open for a deal, should the north Londoners be willing to stump up a sizeable fee.

The Ghanaian made a flying start to the campaign, and he has continued to impress throughout the season, picking up ten goals and six assists in all competitions, most recently scoring the winning goal in his side's 1-0 victory over Fulham.

Journalist Thierry Nyann lauded the Bournemouth star as "sensational" earlier in the campaign, and he has developed a reputation for scoring some spectacular goals, including a fine effort in his side's 3-1 victory against Southampton in September.

The only concern about signing the winger will be the fact he is yet to prove himself at the very highest level, but he has shown remarkable signs of development throughout his career, working his way up from League 2 to the Premier League.

At 25-years-old, Semenyo still has time on his side to improve even further, and he could be a fantastic signing for Tottenham this summer.
