Julie Blakstad has joined Tottenham Hotspur following the expiration of her contract at Hammarby IF.

The 24-year-old Norway international will wear the number 41 shirt.

In quotes circulated to the media, Blakstad said: “This is such a great club, I’m so excited to start.

“This is a club with ambitions, I know both the players and staff have high ambitions, which I really like. They focus on development, which is really important for me, and I’ve always said I want to play against the best players as often as I can. I can’t wait to meet everyone in the team.”

Tottenham head coach Martin Ho said: “Julie is a modern, dynamic full-back who brings a real attacking edge to her game. She combines pace, technical quality and game intelligence with the ability to consistently impact the game in the final third, while still delivering the defensive intensity and discipline required at the highest level. Julie’s bravery in possession, timing of her forward runs and quality of decision-making mean she will regularly influence decisive moments in advanced areas.

“She was a clear priority for us, and despite strong competition from a number of top clubs in England and across Europe, Julie chose Tottenham Hotspur as the best environment to continue her development. That decision reflects her ambition, belief in our project, and the clarity of our vision.

“We are delighted to welcome a player of her quality, mentality and potential to the club.”

Blakstad’s signing for Tottenham follows the loan move of Chelsea’s Maika Hamano, which was announced on Sunday.

Julie Blakstad: her career so far

Blakstad has played for Ottestad IL and FL Fart in her native Norway before switching to Sweden to join Rosengard, where she scored 17 goals in 35 league games across two full seasons.

She joined Manchester City in January 2022, playing 13 times for them that season as she helped them to win the League Cup. She then switched to BK Hacken on loan in March 2023, joining Hammarby IF permanently in January 2024. Last season she scored 15 goals and assisted six in 26 games.

Internationally, she made her senior debut for Norway in October 2020 against Wales – a match that sealed her country’s place at the 2022 Women’s Euros, a tournament where she scored their first goal. She also featured at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and so far has 31 caps for her country, scoring three goals.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Chelsea forward Maika Hamano on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Lilywhites this morning.

The 21-year-old Japanese international joined Chelsea from WE League club INAC Kobe Leonessa back in January 2023. She spent the remainder of that season playing OBOS Damallsvenskan football whilst on loan at Hammarby IF before furthering her development back at Chelsea. Hamano has gone on to make close to 50 appearances for The Blues but game time has been limited recently and she needs more regular football.

On the international stage, Hamano has been capped by Japan on 26 occasions in which she has scored six goals.

After joining Spurs, Hamano said “Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football and I thought if I joined this team, I could develop a lot as a player.

“I want to show fans the connection with my team-mates and exciting plays. At the end of the day, football is about winning and I’ll do my best to contribute to the team’s success.”

Hamano is Spurs’ fourth signing of the January transfer window.

Maika Hamano has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the season.

In quotes distributed to the media, she said: “Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football and I thought if I joined this team, I could develop a lot as a player.

“I want to show fans the connection with my team-mates and exciting plays. At the end of the day, football is about winning and I’ll do my best to contribute to the team’s success.”

Tottenham head coach Martin Ho added: “We are pleased to welcome Maika to Tottenham Hotspur. Maika is a technically gifted and intelligent attacking player who brings creativity, movement and composure in the final third. She has experience at the highest level and will add quality and depth to our attacking options.

“This is a good opportunity for Maika to continue her development in a demanding environment, and we are looking forward to working with her for the remainder of the season.”

Maika Hamano: her career so far

The 21-year-old forward started her career at Cerezo Osaka Sakai before joining INAC Kobe Leonessa in 2021, aged 17. She featured in 16 league games as they finished eight points clear at the top of the WE League table.

She made seven appearances, scoring twice, the next season before joining Chelsea in January 2023.

She was immediately loaned to Swedish side Hammarby IF for that season, making 17 league appearances and scoring seven goals in the Damallsvenskan.

She finally made her Barclays Women’s Super League debut in a 3-0 win over Bristol City in December 2023, with her first WSL goal coming against Aston Villa in April 2024.

Hamano signed a contract extension with Chelsea earlier this season.

Internationally, she made her senior debut for Japan in October 2022, and was part of their squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as well as the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She also helped them to win the SheBelieves Cup in 2025.

Tottenham Turn to Analytics as Christos Tzolis Emerges as Surprise Priority

Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment strategy under Thomas Frank continues to lean heavily on data driven decision making, and a report from TeamTalk has revealed a potentially decisive shift in their search for a new left winger. While big name options remain under consideration, sources indicate that Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis has surged to the top of the club’s internal shortlist.

TeamTalk report that “Greek international Christos Tzolis is a player who is hugely respected by Spurs’ analytics and scouting department”, a significant endorsement given the calibre of alternatives being assessed. The likes of Rodrygo, Nico Williams and Savinho may dominate headlines, but Spurs’ recruitment team appear increasingly convinced that value and output matter more than profile.

Photo IMAGO

Recruitment Process Highlights Clear Favourite

What stands out from the report is the unanimity behind the scenes. TeamTalk state that “Tottenham’s analytics staff, as well as a high ranking scout at the club, believe the Greek star should be the one they move for”. That level of alignment suggests this is more than a speculative interest.

Tzolis’ journey since leaving Norwich City has strengthened his reputation considerably. After finishing as top scorer in Bundesliga 2 with Fortuna Dusseldorf, he joined Club Brugge in 2024 and delivered immediately. His first season yielded “16 goals and nine assists”, and this campaign he has already added “seven goals and nine assists from 17 starts”.

Those numbers point to consistency and adaptability, traits Spurs value as they look to reshape their attacking options following Manor Solomon’s loan move to Fiorentina.

Financial Reality and Record Breaking Implications

Any deal, however, would come at a cost. TeamTalk confirm that “Brugge would demand a club record sale to let Tzolis leave”, with an asking price of at least €40million. That would eclipse the €37million received for Charles De Ketelaere in 2022.

Spurs’ recent sale of Johnson to Crystal Palace for around £35m provides context, and the report suggests that “if Spurs could sign Tzolis for a figure in that ballpark it could prove to be an excellent bit of business”. Internally, some believe that despite being “not as well known as Real Madrid star Rodrygo or Manchester City man Savinho”, Tzolis “could make the biggest difference”.

That belief encapsulates Tottenham’s current approach, prioritising impact over hype.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Spurs supporter perspective, this report feels quietly encouraging. There is a sense that the club are learning from past recruitment cycles, where reputation sometimes outweighed suitability. Tzolis reads as a calculated gamble rather than a vanity signing.

The €40million valuation will naturally raise eyebrows, especially for a player without Premier League pedigree. Yet there is growing acceptance among fans that the market has shifted, and that proven output across multiple leagues carries its own premium.

There is also intrigue around the idea that Spurs’ analytics team rate Tzolis as highly as marquee names. Supporters have become more attuned to data driven recruitment, particularly after seeing rivals unearth elite talent through similar methods.

If Tottenham do proceed, many fans would view this as a statement of intent, not in glamour, but in clarity. It signals trust in process, patience in profile, and confidence that smart recruitment can still outmanoeuvre bigger spenders.

Tottenham Hotspur monitoring Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of January | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur monitoring Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of January - OneFootball
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs monitoring Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Spurs wanted to bring the 25-year-old Ghana international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club in the summer but signed his countryman Mohamed Kudus instead.

Semenyo has since signed a new five-year deal with the Cherries, but the North London club are looking to sign another forward in January and have him on their radar.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank wants a left attacker, and the versatile Bournemouth star fits the bill.

Semenyo ended last season with 13 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances and has continued his form this term, with six and three assists to his name in 11 Premier League games so far this season.

The Ghanaian ended 2023-24 with eight goals and three in 33 league games and has proven himself in the English top-flight.

Spurs could do with such a player in their attack but they are not the only ones keen on recruiting his services, with Liverpool and Manchester City also monitoring his situation.

He is expected to leave the Cherries soon but luring him away halfway through the season could prove tricky as the club have also started 2025-26 on a solid note under manager Andoni Iraola.

Tottenham and other suitors may need to wait until the summer to have a realistic chance of signing him.

However, nothing can be ruled out as Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations – holding from December to January 2026 – makes Semenyo more attractive to Spurs and others.

The Lilywhites are aiming for a top-five finish in the Premier League and are eyeing another major silverware this term after winning the Europa League last season.

They will need to strengthen their squad to boost their chances, and signing someone like Semenyo will come in handy.
