Manchester United will look to secure their fourth straight league victory as they host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Michael Carrick could not have hoped for a better start as United manager, and a victory against Spurs would put them in a commanding position to secure Champions League qualification.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the clash:
Manchester United: Patrick Dorgu (out), Mason Mount (out), Mathijs De Ligt (out)
Tottenham Hotspur: James Maddison (out), Rodrigo Bentancur (out), Mohammed Kudus (out), Ben Davies (out), Lucas Bergvall (out), Richarlison (out), Pedro Porro (out), Kevin Danso (out), Dejan Kulusevski (out), Dominic Solanke (doubt), Djed Spence (doubt)
Manchester United continued their fine league form last Sunday, following up wins over Manchester City and Arsenal with a dramatic, narrow triumph at home against Fulham.
United looked set to see their winning run halted after going 2-0 up through Casemiro and Matheus Cunha, before Fulham scored twice late on. Yet in the 94th minute, Benjamin Šeško delivered a dramatic winner to seal all three points.
Spurs’ last league victory came in December, but their spirited second-half display against Manchester City will give fans some encouragement.
After falling 2-0 behind in an extremely tepid first half performance, Spurs came out firing after the break, with Dominic Solanke scoring twice, including a spectacular scorpion kick to level the game. Spurs looked the more likely side to snatch a winner but ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said: “Spurs certainly bring a challenge. The way they finished the game the other day, they’ve had, over a period, players injured, a lot of changes to the team which makes things more difficult. They’re getting players back, they have really good attackers that look to stretch the backline and play forward and attack the box an awful lot.
“A slightly different game to what we’ve played in recent weeks but we’re looking forward to it. We are in a good place, the boys have worked well again this week. Feet on the ground, let’s not get carried away. It’s about what’s next. Big challenge ahead.”
Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: “I think Carrick has had a great start. It seems like he has injected a little bit of energy into the team. I think it looks like some of the players are in a good place.
“We know the threats that I also think they posed before from Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, he’s getting this team ticking. He has done that the last, I don’t know, four or five years. It has been incredible. It is a threat, it is a challenge, but we are looking forward to it.”

Manchester United vs Tottenham preview as momentum meets fragility
Manchester United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford at a moment that speaks to two very different trajectories within the Premier League. Michael Carrick is chasing a fourth consecutive win as head coach, while Thomas Frank arrives looking to stretch an unbeaten run to five matches amid persistent structural issues.

United’s recent sequence has been striking. Victories over Man City, Arsenal and Fulham have reintroduced a sense of coherence and authority that had been absent for much of the campaign. Carrick has benefited from that surge despite a quiet January window, one that brought no reinforcements but arguably underlined confidence in the existing group.
Tottenham, by contrast, remain 14th, even after showing resilience in a 2-2 draw with City. That performance hinted at progress, though it came alongside renewed tension off the pitch, with captain Cristian Romero publicly criticising the club’s squad building.

Old Trafford setting and broadcast details
Man United vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 12.30pm GMT kick off on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The match will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester.
In the UK, the game will be shown live on TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 11am. TNT Sports subscribers can also follow the match via the Discovery+ app and website.
Squad availability shapes tactical balance
Frank’s selection problems remain central to the narrative. Dominic Solanke’s fitness is uncertain after he limped off against City, shortly after returning from ankle surgery. “He’s not there fitness-wise where he should be, because he’s been out for so long. And we’ve been, in a way, a little bit forced to play him,” Frank said.

Micky van de Ven has missed a week with a minor injury but is expected to be available. Romero and Djed Spence should also return after illness and a calf issue. Even so, Tottenham travel with a depleted squad. Kevin Danso, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison all remain sidelined. Deadline Day arrival James Wilson is unlikely to feature after joining the Under 21s.

United’s concerns are comparatively modest. Patrick Dorgu is still out with a hamstring injury sustained after scoring against Arsenal, while Matthijs de Ligt continues his recovery from a back problem. Mason Mount could return after missing the Fulham win.

Prediction and recent history
Tottenham’s resilience has been notable, but the accumulation of injuries may finally weigh too heavily. United look revitalised under Carrick, playing with purpose and control that has overwhelmed elite opposition.
Despite Spurs being unbeaten in their last eight meetings with United, winning five and drawing three, this feels like a different context. United’s confidence and clarity give them an edge.
Man United to win, 3-2.
Historically, United have won 93 meetings between the sides, with Tottenham claiming 53 victories and 47 games ending level.

There has been a lingering sense of frustration that has followed Manchester City after their 2-all draw with Tottenham. A good first half performance from Pep Guardiola’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was followed by a poor second half display from City. City squandered a two-goal lead as they allowed Spurs to pick up a point in a crucial Premier League fixture. Last Sunday’s match was an encapsulation of the growing pains that a new-look City side is going through. Pep Guardiola believes that Sunday’s result and performance against Tottenham is a lesson that his team has to live to progress.
Pep Guardiola has pointed out that his Manchester City side will learn from Sunday’s result against Tottenham.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference yesterday, ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle, Pep Guardiola explained that the setback that his team suffered against Tottenham could be an important lesson for his team. Speaking on what occured at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Manchester City manager said: “It’s a reality. Second half we drop what we got in the first. Maybe it’s a young team, the youngest in 10 years and maybe we have to live it. Maybe we stopped trying to do what we did in the first halves and we need to grow with that definitely.”

Pep Guardiola added that his team has an opportunity to build confidence tonight against Newcastle. He admitted that tonight’s match is in a different competition to the Premier League, but if City can progress to the Carabao Cup final, it will build confidence among his new-look team. He explained: “So when you play Carabao Cup it’s a different competition and Champions League is another one and Premier League and the other ones. Of course, results helps but confidence is every action and every five minutes and building and breathe in the bad actions and bad moments immediately and go to the next one.”
Growing pains were to be expected with this City side.
It would have been a minor miracle if this new-look Manchester City side picked up where their predecessors left off. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side from 2017-18 to 2023/24 set the bar so high in terms of success that it may never be reached again, by this City team or any other side for that matter. To expect this City side, no matter how talented it is, to reach those standards immediately, is a tall order. Growing pains were to be expected as this City side grows together, and that is what we are witnessing.
Pep Guardiola’s new-look team has to learn a host of lessons to grow, whether that is through victory, defeat, or disappointment. Their second half performance against Tottenham and the fact that they surrendered a winning position falls into the disappointing category. If this City side learns the lessons from last Sunday’s match quickly, it will help them grow and mature. How long that process takes is anyone’s guess. This Manchester City side is learning on the job, so it isn’t a linear process regarding how long it will take them to grow and learn from matches like the one against Tottenham.
Pep Guardiola believes that his team may have to live what they went through against Spurs to grow. That is a realistic assessment of watching this Manchester City side so far this season. There may be more growing pains and signs of immaturity to come this season. The journey City is on isn’t a straightforward one, so growing pains were to be expected across this season.
