Tottenham Cristian Romero transfer claim emerges after 'disgraceful' point made - Daily Express
Description

Cristian Romero is reportedly on the radar of several clubs for a potential summer transfer, just a day after the January transfer window closes. Monday marked the deadline for Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League teams, with any further squad changes now postponed until the summer.

Merely hours following the closure of the transfer window, Romero has emerged as a target for numerous clubs eyeing a possible summer deal.

Journalist Gaston Edul reports that Romero has attracting interest from La Liga, although he refrains from specifying which Spanish top-flight clubs are considering signing the Spurs defender.

The report also suggests that Romero will bid farewell to Spurs at the end of the season, hinting at interest during the January transfer window. However, it seems Spurs hold the upper hand in any forthcoming negotiations, given the centre-back signed a new four-year contract before the start of the season.

This news about Romero follows his expression of discontent regarding the club's limited options after the transfer window closed, reports football.london.

"Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible," wrote Romero in a post on Instagram.

"I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

"We'll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together.

"All that's left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans."

Romero's comments have been made while Tottenham deal with a mounting injury crisis during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

The squad was severely depleted for last weekend's draw against Manchester City, with James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Kevin Danso, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski all sidelined through injury.

Despite the challenges, Spurs remained active in the January market, sanctioning Brennan Johnson's permanent departure to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham squad's response to Cristian Romero 'disgraceful' rant speaks volumes

Tottenham squad's response to Cristian Romero 'disgraceful' rant speaks volumes - Daily Express
Description

The response from Tottenham captain Cristian Romero's colleagues demonstrated a collective solidarity after the end of the transfer window. The Argentine defender has never been reluctant to voice his views on social media regarding club decisions, having previously posted about 'obstacles' and 'lies' when discussing matters at Tottenham.

The 27-year-old has transformed from a reserved squad member into an influential figure within the north London club with considerable influence. Romero also possesses impeccable timing when delivering his Instagram bombshells. Whilst the majority of his team-mates had promptly bid their public farewells to Ange Postecoglou last summer, the centre-half delayed until less than an hour after Thomas Frank's appointment as successor to share his thoughts about the Australian and how he had "paved the way despite the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist".

On Monday, whilst the Tottenham squad had largely shared their social media posts the day before in the immediate wake of the 2-2 draw with Manchester City, Romero, who was substituted at half-time due to illness, held back until approximately 30 minutes after the transfer window shut before making his statement.

"Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn't feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful," the defender posted.

Some have suggested the term 'disgraceful', paired with a facepalm emoji, may have been somewhat misinterpreted in translation from Spanish by Romero or those managing his social media, given the message was shared in English.

Yet if that were indeed the situation, given the significant response from supporters - the post had garnered over 115,000 likes when this piece was written - one would expect a swift clarification of any error. Nevertheless, nearly 20 hours following its publication, the post stands unchanged from its original form.

It bears mentioning that Romero has a track record of voicing his opinions candidly and strategically.

Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package

£49 £35 View Deal

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

For what it's worth, the World Cup champion and two-time Copa America victor does seem genuinely committed to driving the club towards greater ambition. He wouldn't have committed to a fresh long-term contract last summer if his intentions were to depart.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

He watched his team-mates struggle at this same juncture last season due to a shortage of fit and available players, he himself was among the injured.

Now he is witnessing an identical situation unfold, with him and Wilson Odobert having to play only on Sunday, and Romero also playing in midweek in Frankfurt, while the club shows no response in the transfer market, only replacing last season's top scorer with a midfielder and signing a 19-year-old left-back.

Frank had conceded that the club required more options in the attacking areas given their 11 injured players, many of whom are long-term casualties. He said that these injuries had left the squad weaker at the end of the transfer window than when it began, and he suggested that loan moves would be a perfectly acceptable short-term solution.

At the start of the season, the Dane had spoken about his style of football: "I'm a big believer, I always say this one liner, if you don't take risk, you also take risk. So I think it's important that we take risks."

Spurs did not heed that mantra. They stuck to their pre-injury crisis plans to sign players in the upcoming summer, when more quality will be available, and now the forthcoming weeks and months are set to be challenging for Frank, Romero and the threadbare squad, with further injuries likely as the players overplay.

The sole consolation is that, temporarily at least, fixtures arrive at a rate of one per week, though it should be noted that Tottenham seem uniquely susceptible to bizarre training ground mishaps.

Destiny has a habit of intervening, as evidenced when Mohammed Kudus suffered a three-month injury setback days after Brennan Johnson was deemed expendable and subsequently sold.

Romero's social media statement demonstrates both his commitment and frustration, sentiments clearly shared by colleagues past and present.

Those who 'liked' his Instagram message included vice-captain James Maddison, leading forward Dominic Solanke, Xavi Simons, Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, Pape Matar Sarr, the currently sidelined Kevin Danso, loanee Dane Scarlett, and the club's sole senior winter acquisition, Conor Gallagher.

Each of them backed his words as written. The skipper and squad have made their position clear.

They sought reinforcements and were left wanting. A challenging remainder of the campaign lies ahead and, as Romero stated, they must "keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around".

Tottenham deadline-day transfer flies under the radar as player joins from Chelsea - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham completed a late transfer swoop from their rivals Chelsea, signing youngster Joel Vidal-Philbert for their academy. The 17-year-old had been in Chelsea's ranks since his under-15 year and made his debut in the under-18 Premier League last season.

A club statement read: "We're delighted to announce the signing of Joel Vidal-Philbert, who joins our Academy from Chelsea. The 17-year-old winger, with the Blues since his Under-15 year, made his Under-18 Premier League debut last season while still a schoolboy and scored his first goal at that level against Brighton & Hove Albion in January, 2025. An England Under-16 international, he went full-time at Chelsea last summer and links up with our Under-18s squad at Hotspur Way. Welcome, Joel!"

Spurs were among the livelier sides in the early stages of the window, bringing in Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and Souza from Santos, before abruptly slamming on the brakes. When Tottenham learned that Rodrigo Bentancur would miss the rest of the season through injury, Fabio Paratici who has now departed, and Johan Lange moved quickly in search of a new midfielder.

In addition to Gallagher and Souza, the club chiefs also brought in Mason Melia, Elisha Sowunmi, Alfie Dorrington, James Wilson and Vidal‑Philbert. Meanwhile, 11 players left the club this month, either on loan or on permanent deals.

In addition to Vidal-Philbert, Spurs beat Arsenal to the signature of Hearts youngster Wilson on loan. The Gunners had opened talks for the 18‑year‑old over the weekend, as was confirmed by Hearts boss Derek McInnes, but he has chose to join the Lilywhites instead.

Fabio Paratici has left Tottenham with transfer parting gift as final call to be made - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's soon-to-be departing sporting director Fabio Paratici has offered a parting gift with Spurs confirming the signing of Arsenal-target James Wilson from Hearts on deadline day. Paratici only returned to Spurs in October - having left in 2023 following accusations of financial irregularities at his former club, Juventus.

The Italian subsequently received a 30-month ban from FIFA, but worked as a consultant for the north London side before officially rejoining earlier this campaign. However, Paratici will depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium once again, having expressed his desire to return to Italy, where he will link up with Fiorentina.

One of his final contributions at Spurs was helping them secure Wilson's signature from Scottish Premiership side Hearts, beating Arsenal to his services. The 18-year-old forward has moved to Tottenham on loan until the end of the campaign. Spurs have included a purchase option in that 11th-hour agreement.

An official statement from Hearts said: "James Wilson has completed a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. The terms of the loan move also include an option to buy for an undisclosed fee, on Spurs' part. Good luck at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, James!"

The Tottenham statement ready: "We are delighted to announce the signing of James Wilson on loan from Heart of Midlothian for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

"Joining up with our Under-21s squad, the 18-year-old striker began his career at Hearts, progressing through their academy before making his professional debut in January 2024 at the age of 16. To date, he has made 45 senior appearances for the Scottish Premiership side, scoring eight goals.

"James became the club's youngest ever European goalscorer in December 2024, after netting against FC Petrocub in the UEFA Conference League, while also becoming the youngest player to score in the competition.

"After representing Scotland and Northern Ireland at youth level, he earned his first senior cap for Scotland in March, 2025, to become his nation's youngest men's international, breaking a 138-year-old record when he was introduced as a second-half substitute in a UEFA Nations League play-off tie against Greece."

Wilson turned out 45 times for Hearts - finding the net eight times and contributing three assists. The majority of the teenager's outings came during the previous campaign, when he cemented his place as a consistent starter.

This term, though, the Scotland international has found it difficult to break into the team. Speaking to Sky Sports before Hearts' fixture against St Mirren, manager Derek McInnes revealed that Arsenal had also shown interest in acquiring Wilson's services.

He said: "There was a conversation with Arsenal yesterday, but there's been nothing since from Arsenal. I've heard Tottenham, as well, but Tottenham have had no discussions with us directly.

"Any player going out would have to be a benefit to the club. These sorts of things get left to Graeme Jones."

He added: "James is a young player. He's been restricted with minutes this season. It's well documented how well Lawrence [Shankland] and [Claudio] Braga have done.

"Big Kabore has come in and did well for us, as well. It's tough to get into someone's first-team at that age. James had a bit more exposure last season, but he's such a good kid, he trains well.

"Would we see the benefit of a loan? Potentially, yes, if he were to go get some minutes, but this one is a little bit left-field. That came yesterday from Arsenal, from their development squad. Those conversations with Arsenal were yesterday [Sunday], and we've heard nothing back from Arsenal today [Monday]."

Tottenham transfer news as Thomas Frank seals three deadline day deals

Tottenham transfer news: Three deadline day deals sealed as Thomas Frank gets £60m boost - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham completed two loan deals in the final hours of the January transfer window with one of those a hijack on bitter rivals Arsenal. Spurs have sanctioned several moves in the winter trading period with Conor Gallagher and Souza arriving on a permanent basis while a number of young stars have been loaned out.

Kota Takai, Jamie Donley, Damola Ajayi and Yang Min-hyeok have all been sent elsewhere for the remainder of the season with the latter duo recalled from loans earlier in the window before being sent back out. Brennan Johnson has also moved to Crystal Palace for £35million on a permanent deal.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

A further two transfer announcements have since dropped with a loan incoming and exit. Arguably the biggest positive from the last 32 days involves a different team agreeing a lucrative deal.

With all of that being said, the Express have rounded the headlines from a quieter than expected deadline day at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Three deadline day deals sealed

Tottenham beat Arsenal to the deadline day signing of Hearts striker James Wilson. The Gunners made contact for the teenager this past weekend but Spurs hijacked that move by offering a loan with option-to-buy while Arsenal were essentially offering him a trial in their under-21s team before then making a decision on a potential permanent transfer.

A separate loan deal was also finalised during the final 12 hours of the January window with young midfielder George Abbott joining League One outfit Mansfield Town. He made just 11 appearances for Wycombe during the first half of the season with the 20-year-old brought back to north London.

Alfie Dorrington has also sealed a last-minute temporary switch with the defender heading to Salford City after a failed six-month spell at Aberdeen.

Frank gets £60m boost

It could certainly be argued that the best January transfer for Thomas Frank does not even involve Tottenham. Late into Sunday evening, reports emerged that Liverpool had agreed a £60million fee with Rennes for central defender Jeremy Jacquet.

Chelsea appeared as favourites to acquire his services and had been chasing a deal throughout January. However, Arne Slot's side have won the race for his signature with the 20-year-old set to join in the summer.

Cristian Romero launches furious Tottenham attack after transfer deadline - Daily Express
Description

Cristian Romero has hit out at Tottenham, branding the club's depleted squad as 'disgraceful'.

Spurs mounted a remarkable comeback to defeat Manchester City at the weekend, though Romero had to be withdrawn at half-time. Despite being forced off through illness, the defender witnessed his teammates achieve the seemingly impossible against Pep Guardiola's side.

However, the Argentina international has expressed frustration at how severely Thomas Frank has been restricted by injuries, with minimal reinforcements arriving to address the crisis. James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Ben Davies, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Dejan Kulusevski, Djed Spence and Kevin Danso were all unavailable for the City clash.

Frank could only select 11 senior players for the Premier League encounter, with five substitutes on the bench yet to make their top-flight debut.

The January transfer window saw last season's leading goalscorer Brennan Johnson leave, whilst midfielder Conor Gallagher arrived. Spurs subsequently acquired 19-year-old left-back Souza for £13million, all whilst dealing with mounting injury problems across the squad.

Frank acknowledged last week that his squad had been weakened since the window closed. Romero evidently shares this view and, not for the first time, has voiced his discontent with the club.

Romero posted on Instagram: "Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible.

"I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn't feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

"We'll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that's left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans".

Spurs manager Frank praised his squad's determination at the weekend. Speaking after the comeback, he remarked: "It is not easy [staying calm],".

"What I like and what I think is truly important is when your back is against the wall as a team and a group you need to fight - you can never give up. I love that never say die attitude from the players and the fans were massive for us.

"That never says die attitude which I think has been in the team. The mentality is building stronger, and stronger."

Reflecting further, he added: "I don't know if it was the best," and "There are always big 45 minutes, but that character and mentality the players showed, we tried to install belief.

"How they went out in the second half and came back, that shows everything about the group. That never-say-die thing they have shown for a long time now but we got the result which is big."

10 Premier League transfers in the works before deadline with Man Utd and Liverpool deals - Daily Express

Gabriele Biancheri (Manchester United to Rotherham): The prolific United academy striker is set for a short-term loan to the Championship. United have green-lit the move to provide the 19-year-old with regular senior minutes for the remainder of the season.

Jorgen Strand Larsen (Wolves to Crystal Palace): This massive £48m deal is in the final documentation stage. The Norwegian forward has completed his medical, and Palace are racing to register him so he can feature in their upcoming Premier League fixture.

Jeremy Jacquet (Stade Rennais to Liverpool): Liverpool have secured the 20-year-old in a £60m package. While the contract is being signed today to beat the deadline, the French defender will officially remain at Rennes on loan until the summer of 2026.

Luca Netz (Gladbach to Nottingham Forest): Forest have agreed to a £21m fee for the German left-back. The Athletic claim that a medical has been completed, and Netz is set to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at the City Ground.

It's deadline day for the January transfer window and Premier League clubs have only until 7pm to complete any late deals.

It's January transfer window deadline day with Premier League clubs having just a matter of hours left to complete any deals. Teams up and down the league are hoping to get their final incomings and outgoings done before the 7pm deadline.

Liverpool and Chelsea both want to bring Jeremy Jacquet to England but it looks like the Reds have won the race for the French defender. Elsewhere, Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen appears Crystal Palace-bound, with Jean-Philippe Mateta potentially set to join AC Milan, depending on a medical issue. Tottenham and Arsenal could both do late deals due to injuries while Manchester United could oversee some exits.

Man City ace shares social media post after return to club

Sverre Nypan has posted on social media following his return to Manchester City.

The Norwegian ace spent the first half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough, before being recalled by City.

Rashford won't return to Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has decided against returning to Manchester United when his loan deal ends at Barcelona.

Despite reports suggesting Michael Carrick would extend an olive branch if given the permanent job, Rashford has no intention of coming back to Old Trafford.

Even if Barcelona cannot stump up the cash to buy him permanently, he would rather seek out another club than play for United again.

He wants his next club decided before this summer's World Cup.

Xabi Alonso on 'Man City shortlist' for Pep Guardiola replacements

Away from transfers for a minute, it's being reported that Xabi Alonso is on Manchester City's shortlist for potential Pep Guardiola replacements.

That's according to The Telegraph, who report the ex-Liverpool midfielder has plenty of admirers at the Etihad Stadium.

Alonso spent just over six months in charge of Real Madrid, most recently, before being sacked by Los Blancos.

Guardiola's contract with City is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Tottenham agree Arsenal hijack

Tottenham have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Hearts' 18-year-old striker James Wilson.

That's according to the Daily Record, who claim that he is travelling to London to sign a loan deal until the end of the season.

Arsenal made an initial approach but Spurs moved ahead by offering a significant loan fee, while also determining details of a possible purchase clause.

Man Utd striker leaves club on loan

Ethan Wheatley has left Manchester United for League One Bradford City.

He will join the Bantams until the end of the season.

Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace still on

Jorgen Strand Larsen's proposed £45million transfer to Crystal Palace is still expected to go through, despite Jean-Philippe Mateta's move to AC Milan collapsing.

Late solutions for Mateta are still being looked at as the Frenchman tries to find a way out of Selhurst Park today.

Wolves have Adam Armstrong set to join as Strand Larsen's replacement.

Oxlade-Chamberlain to Arsenal?

Mikel Arteta smiled and said "we explore every option" when asked if Arsenal could sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to boost their midfield depth.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder is currently training with the Gunners' under-21s.

And Arsenal have struggled to source a player to bring in before 7pm tonight to fill in for the injured Mikel Merino.

Arteta said: "When you lose a big player in the squad, with four months to go and all the competitions to play for, you need to do everything you possibly can to see if there is a player is available.

"If we don't, we keep what we have. You have to bring a player that has the capacity to adapt immediately and impact the team. That's not easy.

"If it would be, we wouldn't be here. We need to find solutions and try."

Mateta to AC Milan falls through

Jean-Philippe Mateta's proposed move to AC Milan has fallen through, according to Sky Sports Italia.

The striker was poised to join the Italian giants in a deadline-day switch but the deal is no longer thought to be going ahead.

It remains to be seen how that may complicate Crystal Palace's pursuit of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Liverpool deal scrapped

Ajax have confirmed that Liverpool midfielder James McConnell's loan move has been terminated.

The Dutch club said: "The administrative handling of this has been completed; the player himself had already not been part of Ajax’s selection since early January."

The 21-year-old was initially set to spend the season in Amsterdam but made just seven appearances for an Ajax side 18 points off league leaders PSV.

McConnell signed a new long-term Liverpool contract before he joined Ajax.

Man Utd block exit

Manchester United have blocked Tyrell Malacia from leaving today despite his minimal game time at Old Trafford.

Malacia finds himself the second-choice left-back to Luke Shaw following an injury to Patrick Dorgu.

Reports claim left-back Malacia was about to board a plane to Turkey this morning before being informed any potential exit is off.

The Dutchman's only appearance for United this season came in the 88th minute of a win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Malacia is out of contract in the summer and will leave United as a free agent.

Sunderland agree Nilson Angulo deal

With Simon Adingra headed to Monaco on loan, Sunderland have reached an agreement with Anderlecht to sign winger Nilson Angulo.

The Black Cats will pay £15m upfront and potentially a further £2.5m in add-ons.

Angulo, a 22-year-old Ecuador international, is having his medical overseas and is expected to join before the deadline.

Liverpool to hold Villa talks

Liverpool and Aston Villa will sit down to discuss Harvey Elliott's situation at Villa Park.

The terms of the agreement could be changed with Elliott having had little game time at Villa.

Part of the reason is because the Villans will automatically trigger an obligatory permanent move worth £35million if he makes a set number of appearances.

The Daily Mail say the obligation could be changed to an option, or the appearance total could be raised, to allow Elliott to get more minutes in the coming months.

Five hours left

Clubs are running out of time to get their final bits of business done.

There are now fewer than five hours to go until the deadline!

Tottenham hijack Arsenal move

Tottenham are trying to hijack Arsenal's move for James Wilson from Hearts, say Sky Sports.

Spurs want to do a loan deal with an option to buy the 18-year-old, similar to their north London rivals.

Wilson would become part of the Tottenham under-21s squad if they pulled off the deal.

Palace eye Japan international

Crystal Palace have asked about exciting NEC Nijmegen midfielder Kodai Sano.

The 22-year-old Japan international has long been watched by Palace scouts but NEC do not want to lose him mid-season.

They currently sit third in the Eredivisie and want to keep their team together to challenge for Europe.

Sano is unlikely to move today but Palace could return in the summer, with their current Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada out of contract in July.

Kalvin Phillips leaving Man City

Kalvin Phillips is heading to the Championship to join Sheffield United on loan.

Phillips' Manchester City career is in tatters but the £42million midfielder is returning to Yorkshire to link up with the Blades.

He has only made six starts across all competitions since joining City in 2022 and has had a mere seven minutes of senior football this season.

City are set to pay a significant portion of his wages as Phillips looks to resurrect his career at Bramall Lane.

Arsenal striker swoop at risk

Arsenal's surprise move for Hearts striker James Wilson is at risk, according to our sister title the Daily Record.

Hearts are demanding a big fee after receiving contact from the Gunners over the weekend.

Arsenal want to sign the 18-year-old on an initial loan deal so they can watch him in their under-21s.

But the Scottish league leaders will only allow that if the two clubs agree on a transfer fee upfront and are awaiting Arsenal's response.

Jean-Philippe Mateta latest

Sky Sports say Juventus are keeping a keen eye on Jean-Philippe Mateta's situation at Crystal Palace.

Mateta has been undergoing physical checks before a move to AC Milan and Palace still expect him to move to the San Siro.

But there is a possibility Milan pull the plug if they decide at the 11th hour they're happy with their existing options.

Juve will then try to step in if that happens.

Sunderland to loan winger out

Sunderland are in talks with Monaco to send Simon Adingra on loan to Ligue 1.

The winger will join the French side with an option to make the move permanently in the summer, with the Black Cats set to make at least £1m from the six-month loan.

The Ivorian only joined in the summer for £21m but has only started nine of their 24 Premier League matches.

Robertson to Spurs

Andy Robertson to Tottenham is unlikely today, say Sky Sports, but they could return for the Scot in the summer.

Liverpool blocked the veteran left-back from leaving this month due to injuries at the back.

But Robertson's contract expires in the summer.

Palace's centre-back struggles

Crystal Palace have tried to sign four defenders since losing Marc Guehi to Man City - but look unlikely to get any of them before tonight.

Chelsea's Josh Acheampong, Toulouse's Charlie Cresswell and Club Brugge's Joel Ordonez have all been looked at. But their asking prices are too high for Palace.

Ruben Kluivert - the son of Patrick and brother of Justin - of Lyon has also been enquired about but seems set to stay in France.

Liverpool right-back latest

It appears unlikely Liverpool will sign a right-back today after a swoop for Lutsharel Geertruida collapsed last night.

The versatile RB Leipzig player, who can play at right-back, centre-back and defensive midfielder, is currently on loan at Sunderland.

There was talk that Liverpool could take over the loan deal but the Black Cats failed to find a replacement, so the Reds walked away.

Geertruida wanted to move to Anfield but will remain at the Stadium of Light for the rest of the season.

Spurs not interested in Sterling

Raheem Sterling is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Chelsea to become a free agent.

But Sky Sports News say Tottenham, who are looking for a winger, are not interested in the former England attacker.

Several Premier League clubs - Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham and Everton - have been linked.

Bournemouth denied Inter star

Bournemouth have seen a bid for Luis Henrique rejected by Inter Milan.

The Premier League club presented a proposal that would have seen them take the Brazil winger on loan with an option to sign him permanently in the summer.

But Inter want to keep the 24-year-old wing-back so have not entertained the offer.

The Cherries look unlikely to get a fifth signing through the door before 7pm as it stands.

Newcastle star headed for medical

Newcastle United have given their former captain Jamaal Lascelles permission to travel for a medical with Leicester City.

Over a decade after leaving Nottingham Forest for Newcastle, the 32-year-old is set to depart.

Lascelles is out of contract at the end of the season so is likely to move for nothing, having made 253 appearances since joining in 2014.

Forest approach rejected

Nottingham Forest have had an approach for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney rejected.

The Englishman has 18 months left on his contract but Boro are determined not to lose Hackney as they fight for promotion to the Premier League.

Jeremy Jacquet medical underway

Jeremy Jacquet has arrived in England to begin his Liverpool medical.

The French defender looks set to be the biggest addition of deadline day, even though he won't join the Reds until the summer.

Man City recall Nypan

Sverre Nypan has returned to Manchester City from his loan spell at Middlesbrough.

The Norwegian, 19, has had his stint with the Championship side cut short after making just three starts for Boro.

City instead feel his development will be best served training with Pep Guardiola's side between now and the end of May.

Arsenal in striker talks

Arsenal are in discussions to bring Hearts striker James Wilson in on loan.

The Gunners want to see the 18-year-old internally before deciding whether to sign the forward on a permanent basis.

Wilson has found it tough to get game time at Hearts this season but already has eight first-team goals in 45 appearances.

He has also earned a senior Scotland cap.

Man Utd latest

Manchester United are unlikely to welcome any signings today.

Instead, the Red Devils are firmly focused on the summer - and rebuilding their midfield.

Casemiro will leave as a free agent and Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson are top-tier targets for INEOS.

Harry Wilson approach rejected

Fulham instantly rebuffed interest from Everton last week for midfielder Harry Wilson, say the BBC.

Wilson has been their star man this season and has eight Premier League goals.

Everton made an enquiry with the Welshman out of contract in the summer.

But after being rebuffed, the Toffees have moved on to Chelsea's Tyrique George.

Spurs eyeing a forward

Tottenham are on the lookout for a forward today, but Maghnes Akliouche won't be joining from Monaco unless the Ligue 1 club can first source a replacement.

The Independent say Moussa Diaby and Jhon Duran are possibilities for Spurs.

Jorgen Strand Larsen completes medical

Jorgen Strand Larsen has completed his medical to join Crystal Palace this month.

Palace expect Jean-Philippe Mateta to join AC Milan as the Serie A giants examine the striker in Paris this morning.

The Eagles do not expect any issues as it stands and are planning to sign Strand Larsen regardless of what happens.

The Norwegian could cost as much as £48million.

Spurs eye late deal

Tottenham are scouring for any late opportunities after 11 players missed yesterday's draw with Man City due to injury.

Spurs have already signed Conor Gallagher and Souza but are ready to bolster the squad elsewhere.

"We are active, no doubt about that. If something happens, let's see," manager Thomas Frank told journalists last night.

Tonali to Arsenal played down

Newcastle have dismissed any suggestion Arsenal could sign Sandro Tonali today.

And it has emerged the Gunners do not have a recall clause for Ethan Nwaneri after he joined Marseille on loan.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal find any alternative targets.

Palace's Ordonez interest rebuffed

Crystal Palace have been put off from moving for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez today.

The Ecuadorian has been linked to Liverpool before with several Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the centre-back.

But Brugge want over £34million (€40m) so any swoop from Palace, who sold captain Marc Guehi to Man City for £20m, is highly unlikely.

Chelsea star headed to West Ham

Axel Disasi is expected to join West Ham on loan from Chelsea, report Sky Sports. A medical has been scheduled.

The Blues want to sell the 27-year-old outcast who is in exile at Stamford Bridge and has not made a single first-team appearance this season.

But the Hammers want to bring Disasi in after he spent the second half of last season with Aston Villa.

Roma and Lyon are other clubs who were keen.

Brighton confirm loan exit

Brighton have confirmed that attacking midfielder Brajan Gruda has joined RB Leipzig on loan for the second half of the season for regular minutes.

Just days ago, Gruda, 21, made clear he dreams of playing for "a top club" in the future - naming Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool as options.

Arsenal trying to sign Sandro Tonali

Arsenal are pushing to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle today, say Sky Sport Germany.

The Gunners are looking to bring the Italian in with Mikel Merino facing a lengthy lay-off due to injury.

Talks have been held this morning but a deal is very difficult to do with Newcastle not having given a green light.

Tyrique George to Everton

Chelsea winger Tyrique George, who almost joined Fulham in the summer, is headed to Everton.

The 19-year-old will join on an initial loan deal that includes the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

With Jack Grealish potentially out for the remainder of the season, George will compete for starts at Everton having yet to start a Premier League game for Chelsea this season.

Two Wolves medicals

Wolves will conduct two medicals today - and could yet complete a third signing too.

Marseille and England midfielder Angel Gomes flying in to the UK to have a medical in the West Midlands.

While Adam Armstrong is poised to join on a permanent deal from Southampton for an initial £7m fee plus £2m in add-ons.

Armstrong is also due for a medical today.

And Wolves remain in talks with Torino over Che Adams but that deal is seen as less likely.

Ricardo Pepi to Fulham off

Fulham will not be signing Ricardo Pepi from PSV today despite agreeing a deal worth up to £32million.

The American winger, 23, has long been linked by the Cottagers and has 11 goals this season.

But PSV have informed Fulham the deal is not going to proceed because they cannot find a replacement in time.

What we know about Mateta

AC Milan will make a very late decision over whether or not to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace today.

The Italians are sending a club doctor to check on Mateta before they move on with a £26million plus add-ons deal.

Palace have given the Frenchman the green light to complete a medical having agreed to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.

The Norwegian will cost £43m plus £5m in add-ons.

Jacquet's reason for picking Liverpool

With Jeremy Jacquet headed to Liverpool, it has emerged the Reds offered exactly the same £55m plus £5m deal as Chelsea.

And the reason the defender picked the Reds was because of the lesser competition for a starting spot.

Chelsea today recalled Mamadou Sarr and want to keep Josh Acheampong long term.

Angel Gomes closing in on return to England

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to winning the race for Angel Gomes, according to Sky Sports News.

Wolves are said to be finalising a loan deal for the England international despite other clubs being interested in Marseille's midfielder, who only joined them from Lille last summer after becoming a free agent.

Ivan Toney not angling for deadline day more

Ivan Toney appears unlikely to move on deadline day because he believes staying in Saudi Arabia will give him a stronger chance of making England's World Cup squad.

Toney told the Mirror:

I feel like I’m doing well right now and that continuing to score goals [here in Saudi] will give me a stronger chance to get to what could be my only World Cup.

Man Utd's unsuccessful Liverpool hijack revealed

Manchester United unsuccessfully tried to hijack Liverpool's deal for Jeremy Jacquet last night, according to Sky in Germany.

The Red Devils reportedly left it too late, as the France under-21 international already had an agreement in place with the Reds for a summer transfer from Rennes at the end of this season.

Chelsea's latest Strasbourg swap

Mamadou Sarr is returning to Chelsea from Strasbourg, according to Sky Sports News, with the Ligue 1 club said to be signing Aaron Anselmino on loan as a replacement, as well as David Datro Fofana. The latter is reportedly coming in as cover for Emmanuel Emegha, the club's injured captain.

Late Arsenal move

Mikel Merino faces a significant period of time out with a suspected broken bone in his foot, so Arsenal could make a move for a midfielder on loan today.

The Gunners are scouring the market for short-term opportunities with Merino's return date still unclear.

Sky Sports says there is no guarantee the north Londoners will do any business, but that they are considering their options as they continue to compete in all four competitions.

Liverpool agree Jeremy Jacquet deal

Although Chelsea have been the team most strongly linked to Jeremy Jacquet, it is understood Liverpool have agreed a deal with Rennes for the French defender.

Despite their injuries, the Reds will not welcome the 20-year-old to Anfield this month.

Instead, a £55million plus £5m in add-ons agreement has been reached for Jacquet to move to Merseyside in the summer. Personal terms have already been agreed, and a medical will take place today.

It is uncertain whether Jacquet is being replaced to compete with Ibrahima Konate or replace him. His fellow Frenchman's Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season, and there has been little noise about an extension.

Chelsea could yet launch a late hijack, so the reigning English champions are eager to wrap up the transfer as quickly as possible.

Four Man Utd deals

Several Manchester United players could depart Old Trafford today, including teenage striker Ethan Wheatley, who was recalled from Northampton Town earlier this month.

The 19-year-old is poised to join Bradford City in League One while Sekou Kone might also head out on loan with INEOS-owned Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland one potential destination.

The Swiss transfer window remains open until February 16, so a deal may not happen today. Left-back Diego Leon could depart and Nice, also owned by INEOS, could be where he ends up.

While Gabriele Biancheri has been given the green light to leave on loan and has attracted interest from the EFL and abroad, with reports in Spain saying Real Betis are keen.

Three Tottenham deadline day transfers that can still happen as major deals done - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are facing an intriguing deadline day as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his squad. The side's fightback to secure a draw against Manchester City on Sunday offered grounds for optimisim but Spurs still lack squad depth. The club's mounting injury problems have presented a challenge. While pursuing multiple targets on deadline day is difficult, Frank has not dismissed exploring the loan market to reinforce his squad in the short-term.

"We're still in the market, so it's not that we are not trying, but it's just that the short term also needs to be with a long-term view. That's a big thing," the Spurs manager explained. "[A loan] that's different, doing a loan that fits and can help us. That's different compared to buying a player for £30-£40million, that does he really improve us much more to what we've got now? That's two different things."

Major deals done

Spurs have already secured two new additions during the January transfer window. Conor Gallagher was the first to join in a £34.6million move from Atletico Madrid. The 25-year-old has integrated seamlessly into the Spurs side, featuring in three successive league games since his return to England.

Spurs have also signed teenage left-back Souza from Santos. Tottenham completed a £13m move for the 19-year-old defender, who had featured 38 times for the Brazilian club. While he is yet to make his debut for Spurs, he was included in the matchday squad for the weekend's draw against City.

In terms of player sales, the club sanctioned one significant exit with Brennan Johnson joining Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old, who scored the decisive goal in last season's Europa League final, moved for £35million after seeing his opportunities limited under Frank this term.

Three possible deadline day moves

Tottenham had been close to signing Liverpool legend Andy Robertson before hitting a setback. The seasoned left-back, whose contract expires in the summer, had reached an agreement with Spurs.

However, the transfer stalled when Liverpool were unable to recall loanee Kostas Tsimikas as cover. Tottenham may revisit their interest in Robertson before the deadline, particularly if Liverpool can terminate Tsimikas' loan spell at Roma.

Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche has also been touted as a potential midfield target. Spurs had their eye on the French international during the summer and the combination of Mohammed Kudus' injury and Johnson's departure means there's a spot for Akliouche in the team.

football.london previously reported that Monaco were scouting replacements for Akliouche ahead of his departure, though Spurs are up against the clock to finalise a deal before Monday's 7pm GMT deadline. The club have also been linked with Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush during this transfer window.

It was claimed that Spurs were planning a £26m bid for the striker, who made a brief appearance at the weekend. Meanwhile, Frank has asserted that Randal Kolo Muani will stay at the club.

Despite welcoming two new players this winter, the Spurs manager has conceded that his team's injury problems have left his squad weaker than at the start of the transfer window. "I think that's fair. I think we lost, I can't remember, six or seven players inside three weeks in January," he said.

"That's crazy, and some of them extremely unlucky, definitely Lucas and Ben with clear contact injuries. Then there was, I can't remember all of them, but there were definitely too many. So yeah, of course it's weaker than we started the first of January."

Tottenham successfully hijack Arsenal striker transfer as deadline day bid accepted

Tottenham are set to complete a deadline day move after they beat Arsenal to the signature of a talented striker.

Tottenham have outmanoeuvred London rivals Arsenal in the deadline day battle to secure Hearts striker James Wilson. The 18-year-old is poised to head south this afternoon to finalise a loan agreement at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the conclusion of the current season.

The surprising development follows Arsenal's approach to arrange a comparable deal over the weekend. The Premier League leaders made preliminary contact with the Tynecastle hierarchy to register their interest in bringing the youngster into their academy setup until the end of the season.

The Daily Record claim that Arsenal sought to assess Wilson closely by providing him with consistent playing opportunities in their Under-21 side before determining whether to table a permanent bid.

However, earlier today, they revealed that the Scottish Premiership outfit had declined to sanction the transfer without a substantial fee being settled in advance.

Those discussions remained stalled for 24 hours, allowing Spurs the opportunity to surge ahead in the race.

Tottenham have agreed to pay a substantial upfront loan fee whilst finalising terms for a potential sum should they opt to make the switch permanent this summer.

Spurs have agreed to terms that give them the option to purchase Wilson permanently, with no obligation to complete the transaction. But their readiness to guarantee the potential financial boost has been sufficient to persuade Hearts into sanctioning a deal for a player who has already earned recognition with Scotland at senior international level.

Derek McInnes would have been content for Wilson to remain at Hearts and compete for a starting role as they pursue a historic championship triumph.

However, the youngster has spent the majority of the campaign on the substitutes' bench, with McInnes favouring more seasoned alternatives to spearhead his forward line.

McInnes now appears destined to be one attacking option lighter for the rest of the season, with no suggestion that the manager will receive support to bring in Wilson's replacement before the Scottish transfer window shuts at 11pm.
